Reviews of Kanpai London Sake Brewery & Taproom

We went for the sake brewery tour and tasting, and can honestly say it was 5/5! Our lovely Australian host took us through the sake making process, she was so knowledgeable and friendly. We then tried 4 different sakes, which were so lovely and smooth. I would highly recommend doing if you want to grow your knowledge and palette with sake! 100% will be going back!

This has to be the most gentrified thing I've ever experienced and to be honest one of the best new finds recently. The experience changed my view of sake. Some really delicious options and cocktails. Well work a visit. You can also order some delicious Japanese food from the food truck outside. I look forward to returning.

Good service, great sake, great okonomiyaki, and a Japanese toilet with all the working buttons and water sports, just to add more to this authentic Japanese experience (having visited Japan twice). Was disappointed at there not being any takoyaki served at this branch, however, the quality of the okonomiyaki made up for it. Tried the Kaho sake, which had a nice slightly bitter but wholesome nutty flavour, served warm. Recommended.

just bought a bottle of kaze sake from this lovely place. have to say the guy was talking to me absolutely knew awful a lot about sake and their tastes. went through the whole menu with me and explaining a lot of stuff to me, which i thought was really nice of him. Also offered me a few samples which helped me to make up my mind. whether you are new and just entering into the world of sake or an experience drinker, i strongly recommend to visit this place and try their locally brewed sake.

Came for a tour of the brewery and a tasting and had an great time. It's amazing to think that the delicious sake is all made by hand in such a small place. The tour was really informative and covered the whole brewing process and then we got to taste the results. The staff are all really welcoming and friendly and we'll definitely be going back as the bar area is great and getting to drink sake from the tap is worth a visit!

Ordered three bottles of sake to go with some delicious sushi bought for Valentine’s Day. It was really well packaged. We bought the “Time Series Trio” as we fancied trying some different sake flavours. We drank the bottle of KAHO JUNMAI 'GENSHU' OMACHI with the sushi, which was delicious. Then we had some of the TARU 'BARREL AGED' SAKE with some homemade chocolate for desert. Try some of the sake with dark chocolate in your mouth at the same time. A really amazing taste sensation. Going to try some with some ice cream next. And looking forward to the last bottle of NARU 'WILD' JUNMAI . P.s.ordered online in lockdownntimes

Love this place. Tom, the co-founder and brewer is super knowledgeable and so passionate about sake. Ask questions and you'll be blown away by how interesting sake is and what is involved in making it in London. Great place for hanging out with friends...or for a first date! Can't wait to have their products on our shelves in North London.

Nice place and very nice bar, they bring Japanese feeling into London. They make those tap Sake each sake have different taste, need to try them out for sure

First came to the brewery & tap room for a day spent inside learning about (and helping with!) sake brewing, and have since been back a few times for events including pairing dinners. Tom & Lucy are incredibly enthusiastic about their craft and producing an increasing range of innovative - and delicious - sake! Will definitely be back.

I love this place. As a big fan of sake/nihonshu/日本酒/🍶, I love that Tom and Lucy are making good quality sake in London. The vibe at the tap room is great, and apart from their own bottled sake they always have one on tap and a guest sake to try.
It's a perfect place to catch up with friends before going out to dinner around Peckham.

I love everything about this place! And the sake they make is super delicious. At first we didn’t know that to try but the friendly staff recommended their signature tasting flight with one clear, one cloudy and one sparkling sake. My wife and I have ended up trying every sake on the menu and we bought a few bottles from their bottle shop to take home. We will be definitely coming back soon again!

The Kanpai team are, quite simply, awesome! We purchase their award winning sake and session sake cans for our Freak Scene meal kits and not only do we get excellent feedback on the sake, but the team always go the extra mile for us.
I highly recommend a trip to their tap room too. Great sake, kasu beer and big smiles! It really is must-do!

Wonderful experience. Was like travelling to Japan from London :) I misssss Japaaaan

I went with my brother and we had a lovely time there. We were very well received + their sake is sooo good. I recommend

Love this place so much! I’ve been here the first time for a brewery tour and sake tasting and fell in love with sake. The other times for the taproom and kanpai kitchen. Delicious food and Naru is still my favourite sake, can’t get enough of this place! ❤️
Even did a work experience with Tom, Natalie and Radim, learned so much and an amazing team!

Why did it take me until after lockdown to discover that Sake was a whole world of flavours! It is absolutely fascinating how the flavour of a single sake can change so much with the temperature it is served at. Would recommend a slightly chilled Sumi with Katsudon and a room temperature Barrel-aged Taru with chocolate cake!

We spent a day brewing at Kanpai and since then have been regulars at the taproom (which you cant miss with it's stunning Geisha graffiti outside) and their awesome supperclubs. Tom and Lucy are fantastic hosts and always happy to share their love and knowledge of sake. Definitely try the tasting flights if you're new to sake, I also love the everchanging cocktail menu, plus the regular collaborations with brewers etc means there's always something new to try. We were lucky enough to try some of their new Plum sake Hana at the weekend and it's definitely not to be missed. We can't wait to try it again at the taproom soon. Kanpai!

The staff are kind and friendly, the sake is incredible. I go there many times now, every time a great experience.

Had the flight and loved it.
The wild ferment on tap is amazing.
Been keen to check this place out for months, dosent disappoint!

We went on Saturday morning to see if we could get some koji but ended up staying and had a couple of sake from the taps. The person who was tending the bar was so nice and helpful (didn't get her name, sorry!). Prices can be a bit steep but it's definetely worth a visit. Several visits, actually.

A real gem - sake brewery and taproom where you can taste all their sake and also have some delicious bites. Very passionate and innovative brewing team and lovely people as well. What's not to love?
W. P.
Beautiful small batch sake!

Awesome night out here with friends on Friday. We thought we'd try something a bit different than just going to the pub, i.e. sake tasting. Tom, the owner, took us through a couple of different sake tasting flights and even gave us a quick tour of the brewery downstairs. Wasn't the biggest fan of sake to start with, but I really liked a few of them, especially the sparkling Fizu. This would be a great place for a date...

Delicious Sake - with a great range for different tastes. The staff are really friendly and guide you through the differences and how they are made. Seats inside and outside - a great place to stop whatever time of year.

Kanpai London Sake are the first UK Sake brewery and their take on the traditional Japanese drink is fresh, contemporary and refreshing. They have a number of different styles to suit all tastes, as well as the occasional collaboration beer with local breweries. The owners are wonderfully friendly and welcoming and will explain everything there is to know about the drink to you. A great experience, highly recommended.

Amazing sake, right in the heart of Peckham. There’s always someone there to talk to when you need guidance and wisdom, but above all the sake is out of this world along with all their by by products of the sake production (sake kasu - koji kin - mirin) just and an amazing place really is!!
M. D.
Fantastic place for outdoor beverages. The sake is delightful - especially the sparkling one. Cocktails are good too.
A. T.
Off the beaten track a little but worth the short walk from train station. The brewery is a nice relaxed and interesting take on modern craft beer taps, with added interest of brewing sake instead. The tasting flight gave an indication of the fantastic sake they brew and are able to offer fresh. The Fizu is particularly good and should appeal to the craft beer and natural wine drinker. Hopefully they will become more available to the wider public soon.
G. E.
A GREAT find, for sake lovers or for those just curious to discover a new drink with a cultural twist. They have a few different types, which is perfect for discovering a new taste to love. I tried a few types in one wonderful tasting evening - fizzy, cloudy, clear and a premium special (and no hangover!).
I. W.
Very enjoyable. Draft Sake isn't cheap but was tasty & included a very generous serving of wasabi peas. Member of staff quite helpful. Sake menu informative & easy to handle.
L. W.
Delicious sake, we regularly order from their website, and the team are incredibly friendly and passionate about sake. Hopefully we can visit in person soon!
C. M.
Visited on a recent trip to the Peckham Festival. Great Sake and lovely owners! The new place has so much potential, really looking forward to when the bar is set up and finished!
Keep up the great work!

FIZ-MO: the speciality cocktail here HAS. TO. BE. TRIED. Not on the menu (yet). Axe fi dat! You don't ask, you don't get. Sake is mind blowing too. Hit up the tasting sake flight fi maximum effect. Easy peasy Japanesey. Ya dun no.

Very motivated and cool sake brewery in Peckham to the world.
Their Sake still has potential but I believe it's just a beginning of the legend.

Had a great tour here on Saturday. Tom is super knowledgable and passionate about his business - and it’s good value with the tasters too. Will be back!
J. A.
Nice sake in a brewery atmosphere. The only thing I'd say is serve the sake in a traditional style, or at least not in a plastic cup!
B. F.
Fantastic sake and their okonomiyaki is to die for.
L. M.

Kanpai is definitely one of my favourite places in London. I had my birthday party here the other day and we all had an amazing time thanks to the lovely staff and excellent sake.
M. H.
They make sake in the premises which I hadn't seen before and people at the bar were really nice. Had one of their sakes and one of their ciders and both were really pleasant.
It loses a point since the people in the food area were actually a bit unprofessional and didn't seem to care at all about customers. When I walked up to them to order the man at the till didn't even look at me for a good couple of minutes. Also their dumplings come from a store bought bag and considering the prices this is not great either.
