I am not actually supposed to share this review! It's a secret. I found my self in northern Portugal with a back tyre rapidly wearing out and squaring off at an alarming rate. problem was I had to catch a ferry from Santander to Plymouth so didn't have the opportunity to get the tyre fixed in Portugal or Spain. I called Phil. .... my bike is not one he ordinarily works on. But being a biker, a gentleman and really decent fella he agreed to help me out! He ordered a tyre so when I landed in Plymouth it was ready to fit. and it was! with in an hour of clearing customs I had met Phil, had a tyre fitted and continued my trip! A million thanks. great stuff.

Phil is a brilliant mechanic and a great bloke. At short notice he managed to fit in my bike for repair so I could continue working. He also gave me very good advice on what would need to be done in preparation for my upcoming MOT and helped me by not only ordering the parts needed in advance but changing my rear tyre there and then so I could remain safe. On collection of my bike Phil was kind and informative in showing me what had been missed by previous services elsewhere and also what I could do to improve the maintenance and cleanliness of my bike. The price was also more than fair and a welcome surprise! Since moving back to Plymouth I had yet to find my forever mechanic but after the brilliant service provided in my time of need, I will be more than happy to go to Phil for all future work.

What can I say? Being total novices when it comes to bikes, my son and I took our newly purchased 125s to see Phil. What a first class service! Not only a chap who is passionate about his work, but also someone who is genuine and not just after your money. 2 MOTs and a whole load of knowledge about our bikes later, were really impressed. If you need anything bike related I'd wholeheartedly recommend Phil and Cook Motorcycles to be your 1st stop. We will definitely be going back when we need anything doing.

Got Phil recommended to me on the ferry from Torpoint to Plymount by some locals as I had some issues on my bike. Phil helped me out quickly, checked the possible problems and changed the dirty spark plugs. Bike was still having some issues but being back home I know that they were caused by the extreme heat! Could continue my roadtrip without worries. Thanks Phil!

Dropped in unannounced and asked if my rear tyre could be removed. Happened to mention there was a seized/stripped bolt on the brake disc. Less than 5 mins later tyre was off and the ba**tsrd bolt was removed. Really friendly chap, seriously cool workshop. Can't recommend enough.

Whether a dog I have mistakenly purchased, or a bike I have purchased from him, his customer service and extremely high standards has always given me the utmost confidence in the work he undertakes. Like many of Phil's customers he was recommended to me by another motorcyclist who would not want anyone else working on his bike. I too cannot recommend Phil highly enough whether for repairs, servicing or a new bike you will be in safe hands and have the knowledge and peace of mind that any bike leaving his workshop is in the best possible condition, safe, roadworthy and has met his high exacting standards.

I cannot recommend Cook Motorcycles more. I've found my new bike technician/mechanic, and I shall be going here to get any and all future work done. Personally I feel like Google should have a secret extra star you can give when you feel like the person or business goes above and beyond and 5 stars just isn't enough. There are also bikes for sale for very reasonable prices. Cannot recommend highly enough.

I can only recommend Phil & his motorbike business. I bought a used Suzuki Inazuma in top conditions several months ago, and I have been very happy ever since with it for my daily commuting and shorter trips to the countryside. What I liked about the purchase was that Phil never tried to convince me to buy, but just to took me on a test ride and let me decide if I like it or not – no pressure or sales pitch. Best of all: Ones gets a warranty for 3 months and Phil is genuinely happy to check the bike even if it is nothing wrong with it and after the 3 months. Finally, Phil knows the relevant people around Plymouth and can give you plenty of tips where to get gear or to enrol in safety training - which was a good thing for me since I have not sat on a motorbike for quite a while. All in all: Buying a motorbike from Phil feels like buying a motorbike from a trustworthy friend, who knows his bikes & whom you wanna take out for a proper lunch, so he gets a short break from business.

I am new to riding with this the first MOT I have put a bike through. Phil really went above and beyond my expectations to sort my CBR125 to be legal and safe. Phil managed to keep the cost as close to my limited budget as he could without any compromise to standards and safety. He even spent a good half hour with me when I picked the bike up explaining what he had done and what I needed to do to the bike regularly to keep it maintained. Its clear that anything less than perfection wont really do. Top bloke and incredible service, Couldn't recommend enough!

I went to Cook Motorcycles in Plymouth from Cornwall purely because he was selling my dream bike at a reasonable price... I'm SO glad it wasn't available anywhere else. 3 hours after turning up and dropping on him that I wanted to take the bike away the same day, I left with a freshly serviced and MOTd bike... and my new forever-mechanic. Phil is fast, fair and efficient and he wouldn't let me leave with the bike until he had checked every little thing to ensure that the bike was good to go. On top of it all, his customer service is above and beyond anything I've ever experienced with mechanics; I now won't go anywhere else. If you love your bike and are within a couple hours drive of his workshop, take your bike to Phil- you can rest assured that he cares about your baby ALMOST as much as you do :-D

I bought a nice Yamaha XSR700 from Phil last week for a fair price. He was very easy to deal with and gave the bike a full service and renewed its MOT before I drove it away. Seems like a good bloke & I'd happily go back (for servicing or sales).

Where do I even begin? Phil did an amazing job with my CBR125r for a service and MOT, with everything you could think of being taken care of. He even spent a good while going over what he had done with me when I came to collect the bike, and gave me further advice about how to continue to care for it. Phil is an incredibly rare find in that he clearly cares about every bike that goes in and out of his workshop (you can tell that just from visiting the place!) and will go above and beyond to ensure his customers are happy. Prior to the service I visited Phil on a recommendation to ask about putting the rear footpegs on my bike as the previous owner had taken them off - Phil sorted me out with the right screws/bolts and put them on for me free of charge. You just wouldn't get that anywhere else these days where the mentality is generally just a production line. Overall incredibly impressed and I will only use Phil to service my bike as I know he will do a proper job!

Always exceptionally helpful and what Phil doesn't know about bikes isn't worth knowing. You pay an average rate per hour for work but what he does in an hour is far more than any other garage. I had a very complex immobiliser problem and Honda wanted over £1000 to fix Phil fixed it in a third of the price. Most of his customers are life long customers and that's for a reason. I always use him for servicing, MOT and parts and will probably buy my next bike from him.

Fantastic customer care, superb pricing. For MOT, service, looking to buy, dropped bike trouble or emergency call out Phil has always come up trumps. As an older, shorter, all weather, no mechanical knowledge, late to riding, on a budget commuter, I need the reliability and love the freedom my bike gives me. I couldn’t have that joy and pleasure without the trust and faith I have in Phil’s skill and conscientious workmanship. Over the years my bikes have slightly increased in cc as I’ve seen something ‘just right’ in Phil’s workshop and especially now my teenage son is riding I wouldn’t chance taking our bikes anywhere else. Family friendly, dependable, best value, Cook Motorcycles is, without doubt, an absolute gem.

Thanks to a recommend from Graham Voisey (just happened to park next to him in Tavistock & got yapping), I took my newly acquired, low mileage, 1999 Honda Valkyrie in for a service & check over. Very warm welcome from Phil, liked him immediately & felt I could trust him. I wasn't totally happy with the bike, struggled with the handling on it even though other owners sang it's praises. Anyway, Phil spent 5 hours sorting it out - the most important detail was noticing the handlebars were quite a long way out of position. 30 secs after riding away I noticed a huge improvement, 5 mins in & I had fallen in love with my bike. Cost of that.....priceless 😊 He's even dealt with my fretting over a noise with the brakes, checking it over, & taking it for a test ride - without losing patience 😂 Cannot recommend highly enough - will never be going anywhere else 👍

Phil is very knowledgeable and helpful. He has looked after both of my recent bikes, A 125 scooter and a Yamaha R1. I even bought my latest one from him and am really happy with my Bandit 1250. Nothing is ever a problem and I recommend him to everyone. He even loaned me a jacket on my last visit as i had forgotten mine. Top bloke.

Top notch service - my CBR suddenly developed a painful rattling sound last year coming from the engine block, turns out after 50 thousand miles and 12 years of hard work a bearing inside had begun to disintegrate. Thought I was going to need a new engine, but took it to Cook Motorcycles and less than a week later got it back in perfect health, tuned up and ready to go, in the middle of Christmas no less.
