Reviews of Macduff Marine Aquarium
n.
Not been in some time but was brilliant. Not the biggest but it’s focus is our waters and they have done an absolutely tremendous job. A great catalogue of local marina. Was a good day out and the wee man had a smashing time. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and the feeding times were nice, get to learn more about the fish etc. will be back sooner this time.
C. N.
Incredibly beautiful and clean aquarium. Friendly staff and handy fish finder to keep older kids interested. The informative talk on wrasses and lumpsuckers by Frazer was excellent and peppered with fascinating facts. Different zones showing reefs, deep sea and coastal sea life and there is even a touch zone tank for kids to feel interesting sea creatures. Dazzling gift shop at the end too. Highly recommend for a couple of hours - fun for the whole family: kids to grandparents.
D. F.
Great little aquarium that houses all the species found in the Scottish waters.
Excellent tick sheets that help the kids look for a certain species when walking around & learning about the variety of species found in our local waters.
Friendly staff, good prices & a nice little gift shop at the end as well.
D. F.
This is a quirky and wonderful experience. All the creatures here are from the seas around Britain. You receive a checklist so you can identify whose who. This is a great few hours for children and adults. Staff here were brilliant too. There are toilets but no café.
D. T.
Had a day at the MacDuff Marine Aquarium and to sum up in one word........ Brilliant.
The fact it has a 22kW EV charger in the Car Park is the first bonus for me.
The staff were fantastic, professional, knowledgeable and engaging. So much to see with the large tank and all the smaller viewing tanks. Every day is a school day and it was so interesting. Last time we came here it was nearly 20years ago and still enjoyed our visit.
A great day out and well worth the money.
C. D.
Absolutely loved this little aquarium. It is quite small but it is very special because you are learning about everything that lives in the wild water just beside the aquarium. I could spend hours here and I did. Well worth a visit and the staff are lovely.

Really enjoyed our visit. Nice clean environment with loads to see. Feeding time was exciting. A must see if you're in the area. Followed a pod of dolphins in the estuary to boot. 😊
B. F.
Lovely Aquarium, we visited when the diver was feeding in the central aquarium. It was lovely and my daughter loved it.
If you are in the area it's definatly worth a visit :)
L. L.
Lovely small aquarium with lovely, well informed staff. Nice place to spend a couple of hours and learn more about the North East coast and it's sea life. Would recommend if you're in the area. Great for kids and adults 😊
S. M.
Brilliant place, one of the best aquariums I've taken my daughter too. She loved it all, especially watching the main aquarium. Plus all the fish can be found in the local waters.
S. S.
Lovely place to visit. Not too big bit worth the money. Get a fish list as you go in and tick off the fish as you find them. Area to touch starfish and urchins. Plenty of sanitiser stations around the aquarium. Staff are really friendly too.

We've visited here many times over the years when our children were small but this was our first visit since the covid restrictions were put in place. Tickets must be booked online and track and trace info required. You get a time slot which is shared by other visitors - social distancing should be adhered to and masks worn. Wait in your car or at a safe distance until your entry time. The tanks seemed a bit emptier than in prior visits, in particular the touch pools, jellyfish, seahorses and rays. There seemed to be more debris floating in the large auditorium tank than I've noticed before. My kids, although older now, still enjoyed the visit as did I but covid has certainly been as disruptive to the aquarium as it has everywhere else. Do not let this review come across as a bad one because of those points as it's not meant to be taken that way at all. The staff were very kind at the ticket desk and as our time slot wasn't too busy we were allowed to stay longer, which was great as we had dear old Grandad with us who walks slowly with a cane. The toilets were very clean - the water is very hot so take care of children washing their hands. There are santizer stations throughout the whole area. We didn't make use of the picnic area outside as it was a bit chilly. The playpark is great for under 5s. Disabled parking near the door. Doors are quite heavy to open
S. S.
My son really enjoys visiting this aquarium. He loves looking at all the displays.
You must book a visit here and wear your mask.
The touch pool is closed at the moment, but they have a tick sheet activity for children to complete where they have to mark off all the he animals they see during there visit.
The staff are very friendly and helpful l, we were late for our slot due to traffic and they told us not to worry and that we could still go.
They have a small gift shop with lots of sea themed toys and books at a reasonably price.
I highly recommend it but just beware that some of the tanks are open so children could put their hands in if you aren't careful.

Spent a lovely few hours of macduff marine aquarium. The parking is ample Right outside the facility There is also several disable parking bays if needed. The staff were really friendly And explained everything in full inc being given a map and told about different things going on through the day. The aquarium is not large and you can get round it in approximately 60/90 mins taking time to have a good look at things but I feel its still well worth it. And would go back if I was to visit the area again. There is lots of information dotted about inc interactive screens and touch pool where you can get hands on with things found in the local area.
S. O.
Was a lovely day out with my partner. The aquarium is relatively small but there's a lot to see. We picked up some lovely polished stone dinosaurs from the gift shop. Views are lovely outside the aquarium as well. Would definitely recommend a visit.
F. S.
We have been to the Aquarium so many times now but never tire of it. The staff are always lovely, the fish are so well looked after, it's never dirty and every time we go, we learn something new! Definitely worth a visit for children and adults alike!
G. G.
A sweet place. A small but great spot to visit. The staff were just fantastic and their obvious enthusiasm came through in the 2 talks we were lucky enough to be there for. All topped off with a pod of dolphin just off the waterside as we were leaving.
L. R.
I’ve been to the biggest sea aquarium in the world but it was not as entertaining and educating as this small aquarium. We really enjoyed the diving show and the enthusiasm of the girl who explained all the fish in the show tank was absolutely fab. The staff even got us out to see a pod of dolphins in the North Sea. Really worth a visit
R. B.
Very good views of the fish with lots of sorts swimming together. All British ones so not colourful. A bit hard to identify the types. The paper chart was not to scale and the electronic display showed one at once so not easy to compare. Fairly small attraction. No cafe but some nearby.
g. p.
For the price of admission I'd say it's a good deal. Lots of things to do and see for the kids , highly educational as well. Not as big as some aquariums but nicely done and friendly staff.
T. H.
I liked that you could touch some of the plants and starfish in the touching pools. It was a very small place so we were in and out in a small amount of time.
Not too expensive and a nice little gift shop. Shark talk was good.
A. C.
Highly recommended! You can get up close to the sea life. So interesting! Our two younger visitors aged 10 and 8 really enjoyed it.
R. W.
Really enjoyed our visit so much to see.
A. B.
Amazing place to see marine life, staff were so welcoming 😊
J. K.
Great aquarium which easily stands on it's own in comparison with the other biggers centers. Cleverly designed and at once one can see it's well looked after by the staff. We enjoyed all the things but we have never seen live plankton via the microscope before so it deserves the special mention
A. T.
Amazing place! Took a class of 38 for a school trip and staff were amazing and so patient with such a curious group! Would 100% recommend.
D. M.
Very well kept. Focused and informative tanks. Lots of fish on display. The staff and the talks make the difference. Incredibly friendly and many many talks to go to spread throughout the day. The interactive talks are especially good where you can touch the fish. Great day out.
R. W.
What was there was high quality and very informative. Just much much smaller than anticipated, we knew it was small from previous reviews but was even small than expected. Covid didn't help with the shut down of the talks and the touch tanks which would have prolonged the visit. Wasn't a huge amount for toddlers and a few of the tanks were that bit too high. Maybe a step for smaller children as they can be stubborn and want to see for themselves.
Overall it's probably a 3.5 but as it took longer for us to travel there than go round due to the closed bits I can only give it a 3 happy to return in the future and amend when things reopen.
B. D.
A quality experience. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and the exhibits and tanks are well looked after. Very wide range of fish and other marine species. Spending between 1.5 - 2 hours here is a good way to take in all the aquariums and displays, catch a couple of feedings, and have a nip into the gift shop. Highly recommended
M. B.
Spent a great time here yesterday with the visiting family. Friendly and informative staff on hand. Interesting and well set out aquarium with lots to see and lots to read. Came away with many lovely photographs and five grandchildren were kept completely entertained for the duration of our visit.
Thanks very much :)
S. O.
Great little place friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A. H.
Excellent place to visit. By comparison to some other Aquariums, this one is quite small with just one main open air tank, but several small environment tanks and touch pools. Focus in on local area marine wildlife and it's done very well with lots of interpretation boards explaining the different species.
What really made it was the talks. If you can plan your visit to coincide with them your visit will be greatly enhanced. Today we watch feeding time in the harbour pools, and the lady explained about the different food and species. The main attraction was the divers going into the main tank... This was accompanied by a talk explaining what the diver was doing and again pointing out the different species, with just the right amount of audience participation.
Really enjoyed our day visit and look forward to returning.
K. S.
Looks small from the outside but there is loads to see. Very educational for youngsters! Theres a wide variety of fishes, the aquarium also has a lab where you can look through a microscope onto few organisms.
I would definately recommend this place.
S. D. (.
My little boy really enjoyed the aquarium, including the divers in the big tank. The price is really good value and the aquarium is right next to the coast. It was nice to see all the marine animals that actually inhabit the coastline of the Moray Firth.
M. M.
Stopped by on a last minute decision only half an hour before closing,we had a fantastic time and only wished we had more time! Very informative and interactive for kids,we were mesmerized by the fantastic array of fish on view!
S. M.
It's a family attraction not as big as some of the other well known aquariums but a lovely location electric vehicle charging in the carpark a great place to spend a couple of hours and interactive pools so you can touch some of the sea life.
N. J. R.
I have visited this aquarium twice now. I like that they have touching pools but on both occasions we have gone it has been so busy that you can't get near with your smaller child. This time around we seen an octopuss being fed which I found fascinating but my three year old got bored of the talk and wanted to explore instead. I'd say the talks are definitely aimed towards older children with longer attention spans. I really like the big round tank as there are lots of bits to look through and the fish in there are beautiful. My daughter was taken with this tank more than anything else. Sadly the jellyfish were being cleaned out so I didn't get to see them and there seemed to be a lot less sea horses in comparison to last time but they are beautiful to look at. It's a very small aquarium and at £16 for one adult, one toddler and one pensioner I think it's quite expensive, as your back to the beginning in around ten minutes. I've been to places equally priced with a lot more to see and do. Perhaps it would be better when my daughter is older, she was a bit put off by the tanks at eye level and is very shy so won't go in amongst crowds.
b. s.
Went with a friend and her little girl for the first time in yrs. Some things had changed but overall a really enjoyable experience. I will definitely visit again
R. J.
Fascinating to see all the sea life from this part of Scotland. So much more exciting than I thought it might be. Nice staff. Great gift shop.
I wish I had more planned to see up in Macduff.
So worth a visit.
S. B.
A regular spot with the family, a great little place that the kids love. It's a small attraction so don't expect hours of fun, certainly between 15 mins and half an hour depending on the attention span of the little ones! Well priced wee gift shop and a nice seated area to play/have a picnic on a nice day.
M. G.
Visited today for the first time with my 2yr old grandson. Fantastic, friendly and informative staff. He absolutely loved it, as I did which goes to show you're never too old. Well worth the money. Particularly enjoyed the talk on the seahorses. Can't wait for our next visit.
J. S.
What an amazing little Aquarium, so interesting and interactive experience for children and adults alike. Took our wee 2 1/2 year old grandson who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you for a lovely time.
B. M. C.
Covid restrictions apply here Aug 2020. Prebook online if possible.
Parking at MMAs carpark at peak times can be a hassle otherwise it's a great place to spend a hour learning and watching the marine wildlife. Staff excellent.
D. C.
Have been to the aquarium several times over the years and have always enjoyed seeing my nieces, nephew and daughter looking and wondering at the marine life
A. H.
Absolutely amazing place to visit! The kids and adults loved it! Nice to see local see animals and get info on them. It really is lovely there
N.
I loved the location, but was bit disappointed as it was pretty small. The interactive talks were quite interesting and the kids loved it. Linda the Lobster was the star of our visit.
s. d.
Excellent place to take the kids and adults alike,we took our grandchildren aged 18months and 5 years, they thoroughly enjoyed it, specially my grandson who had a great time spotting the difference fish and marking them from his sheet,a relaxing afternoon out and I can thoroughly recommend it,we will return next time we're in MacDuff
R. M.
Lots to see here, loads of interesting fish and sea creatures to find. It is really well set up and staff are really knowledgeable - we had an excellent talk at the touch pool.
P. H.
Fantastic place!
I'm so happy to was there
Despite the small size, the variety of specimens is pleasantly surprising.
They have various other attractions.
We will definitely be back there!!
L. R.
Amazing museum, a must visit in North East of Scotland
T. V. B.
Macduff aquarium is a great day out. We had the best fun meeting all the aquarium creatures and the best was stumbling across the divers cleaning the pool that absolutely made the kids day. He high fived them through the glass, did fist bumps and had the kids chasing his hands all around the glass. Such a fun day out!
J. R.
Very interesting and informative. Fascinating to see the marine life up close. Staff lovely, and well informed. Well worth a visit!
S. L.
Great place for a rainy day. Lots of interactive things to do. Not massive but you can spend a good hour or so in there if you take your time. Would definitely go again!
R. R.
Very small. Hard to spend even an hour here. Staff friendly but at ~£25 for a family it felt about £10 too dear to be able to recommend.
S. (.
Nice place to take the kids plenty to see lots of info the staff are very knowledgable and helpful lots of lovely fish free parking
N. C.
Visited here for the first time in well over a decade and, while there have obviously been some changes to the place since then, it's still a great place to visit. The prices weren't too steep either
S. E.
Great little place packing more than you'd expect. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Banff or Macduff.
D. O.
Macduff Marine Aquarium not so far from The Macduff Community Sport centre. The aquarium has got lots of species of fish. They've got an octopus. There are narratives all around for proper knowledge of each specie of fish. There is also a souvenir shop at the reception. It's a 1hr 20mins drive from Aberdeen. I will definitely be back here.
L. R.
Always interesting to see what lives in the waters around our shores. Knowledgeable staff give talks at feeding times.
E. S.
Fantastic day out! Lots to see and they have interactive sessions for the kids. Really helpful staff too
J. L.
This is a great little hidden Gem on the North East coast of Scotland.
You can touch and feel some of the rock pool favourites or just enjoy a short lecture while watching the divers feed the fish from the main auditorium.
Yes you'll be nice and warm indoors the entire time.
The two story viewing tank also offers mesmerusing views from a couple of locations.
Expect to spend about an hour going around the stations.
D. K.
I have visited the aquarium several times with my kids and they always enjoy it. Smaller than some aquariums but has a much more personal feeling and the staff are always engaging and happy. The diving show is a highlight of any visit
J. C.
Really smart place, yes, word choice could be better. My wee boy loved it.
The fella doing the presentation was really good. I expected it to, not be the best but is was actually really nice and friendly. Brilliant tank/main display and really nice separate displays. Also very educational, being interesting and looking amazing would surely want people to learn more abot sea stuff.
Well worth the visit, very impressed.
J. R.
Small place, bit packed with interesting tanks that are fantastically maintained, clear and easy viewing for kids of all heights and adults alike. Fantastic gift shop with knowledgeable staff who are polite and friendly, I have been three times and on every occasion felt welcome and engaged with, the daughter loved it each time and they have a small area where you can handle a select few sea creatures. And it has a fantastic beach and town located well within walking distance
L. W.
Lovely to see such large fish up close. Worth a visit but no cafe just drinks and ice-cream so take a picnic if you are there around meal times and enjoy watching the sea
y. l.
Had a fantastic morning at the aquarium with my grandchildren. Good value for money and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Never disappoints.
R. M.
Perfect timing. Monday at Noon in November. So relaxed and an essentially private talk on the jelly fish and anenomes. The children loved it
T. C.
Was lovely, children had a lot of fun especially my toddler who loves looking at fish. Great place to visit
C. S.
Had a great time visiting the aquarium, was really nice to see that it was all native fish it contained & there was lots of info avaliable to read about the area & sealife in Scotland. Nice little gift shop too.
C. H.
Small but very interesting.
D. M.
Found this very interesting really great for kids
L. J.
Amazing wee place. The kids love it and the gift shop is really good. Can't wait to go again.
R. O.
Great place. Have a bit so you can touch the star fish.
R. B.
Not a huge museum but kids absolutely loved this place, particularly the touching tank.
B. D.
A nice little place to come with family, the prices to get in are reasonable and the staff are friendly. There are toilets and it's pram accessible throughout the whole aquarium, lots of different kinds of sea animals and creatures to see upclose. they offered a presentation where a diver would feed the fish and showcase other things about the sea life and conservation. You're allowed to touch some starfish and there's a big lobster that likes to hide, if you're in the area it's a great place to visit
F. H.
Bit disappointing and quite expensive, even charged for a 3yr old.
Quite a few of the smaller exhibits were very similar. Generally felt it was in need of upgrade/overall
R. G.
Lovely place with superb Staff. Small but really nice for trip with children
J. 1.
For the area, it’s a must great attraction for the young things. But in terms of aquariums it’s not there. So surprised to find no great whites, no killer whales. But my mate Dave says that they are apex predators and would eat all the other fish, ( like me 😈) so I can’t hate it. But feeling the star fish got me excited so worth the price.
J. C.
Great place to visit
S.
Great place to take children, had a fantastic time. Macduff and Banff are lovely places with good beaches.
M. A.
Excellent day out with kids. Small aquarium but a lot to explore.
M. C.
Great place to squeeze in if your out for the day in the area, my daughter loved it
J. B. E.
It may be a small Aquarium but it is a very good one. The staff have always been friendly and on our last visit the man that aided us in the section where he gets some starfish and crabs for you to see close, he was brilliant. Very informative and knowledgeable. We had a very good time. We have a child in a wheelchair and besides her wanting to get up close to the glass we had no problems. Love that place.
L. S.
The aquarium was.very interesting. The lady gave a talk on various starfish and let anyone who wanted to touch them. There are so many varieties of fish there to look at. They do a.dive.at.certain timea where they fees the fish but we didn't see that. There is a shop to and you can get ice lollies for the kids at the end of the tour..enjoy
P. M.
I've been wanting to visit this Aquarium for a while - I have to say, I thought it would have been bigger (could get pretty crowded at peak times I would think), they do cram a lot in though and it's very well set out with plenty to see and learn, I'd highly recommend a visit especially if you have kids 👍👍
C. A.
Good fun and very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
A. w. K.
very nice lots to see you never know what's in water around you the talk about the seahorse was good learnt a lot about them that did not know take your time to walk around
c. d.
Loved it ..it was busy enough to get time to look at everything
M. S.
Great wee place full of fish and ocean facts. Could spend hours in there finding all the different species. Great staff, very friendly and helpful
K. R.

R. H.
Great place to bring kids. Arrive well before the scuba show to get tickets
L. H.
Grandsons love it .staff were really great and interacted with kids and not over priced..
e. l.
Wild ...Wild wild....the force of the sea is something to behold.
J. M.
Not the biggest of aquariums you'll visit, nice location, free car parking, outdoor picnic area, great outdoor viewing area of the bay. In the aquarium nice selection of fish to see, great touch pool for kids and adults, gift shop, selection of drinks and ice lollies also available.
J. M.
It's okay a bit small for the money but keeps the children entertained.
S. H.
Small but really good. My 3 year old had a great time and three dive show was very nice.
C. P.
Love this "plaice" 😂. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and a great venue to visit with the kids. Reasonable price and worth a visit.
R. B.
Great for kids, I don't think it's changed in 20+ years. I managed to spend a whole day there with my 1 year old
G. B. L. i. t. P.
Small but beautifully formed! Just spent a very enjoyable morning looking at the most amazing fish. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent. Thank you.
J. S.
What a great little stop whilst driving the coastline. As far as aquariums go this one is quite small but had a great variety of fish and interesting exhibits. Would definitely come back. Very friendly staff and they kept visitors staggered to allow social distancing whilst visiting.
W. (.
Very nice experience, small aquarium but very well layout with so much information
J. S.
Lovely place, it's not the biggest aquarium but that centre section is awesome. The staff seemed to love what they do and were happy to talk and answer questions. There were several sections closed due to Covid but there was still some interactive parts. Parking was easy, right outside and they had a small gift shop at the end,. All in all it's a good stop.
E. P.
Absolutely wonderful place to visit, staff are excellent andd they really know their stuff about marine life. You get a worksheet when you get in aand have to tick off everything you see, and you can even touch the fish in one part too. My whole family loved this place, kids especially loved finding all the fish, there's so much to see. I highly recommend this place if you get a chance to go, go, you won't regret it.
C. P.
Grandsons loved it ...so did adults. very interesting and educational
A.
I go every few years with the grand kids and it is always fascinating. Plenty of hands on for the youngsters and you can spend hours looking at the big cod and massive overprotective lobster in the big tank.
M. J.
Great for kids up to about 9 years. Great induction talk, kids liked to touch the star fish and the sea urchins and the fluorescent/black light on the way out for the white to light up on there clothes. good to pass the time. need to pre-reserve a time slot on website which was'nt too much hassle.
M. P.
Great experience, the kids loved the scuba divers show
I. B.
Good place for a day out, especially with the kids.
T. D.
We were a group ranging in age from 60 -11 & we all really enjoyed ourselves.
We loved spotting all the fish on the sheet & getting to see so many different sea creatures so close.
Even the jokes on the toilet walls made us chuckle.
S. F.
What a lovely surprise! A lovely interesting "little" aquarium. Super for the children and grandparents alike! The gift shop has souvenirs to suit all pockets. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
J. P.
Great visit with the granddaughter, very friendly staff and lots of parking too

Brilliant place for the family we all really enjoyed it
M. A.
At Macduff Marine Aquarium you will meet all kinds of sea creatures that live in the Moray Firth, Scotland's largest bay.
Their exhibits lead you from the coastal waters and out to the seafloor and on the way, you'll discover the amazing diversity of their native marine life.
.
You can get in deeper and join their Marine Masters for a touch pool session or short feed show.
Presentations change daily so ask at Reception when you arrive.
Their dive shows remain suspended for the time being.
.
Hope you enjoy my photos 🔥
M. C.
Excellent place to take the children. Mine were enthralled by jellyfish and the rays. Great that they only have fish found in the sea around it. Its also the only aquarium I know of where you can go straight from it to the rock pools on the coastline within a minute and start finding the creatures you have just seen.
A. M.
Took my grandkids here today and they loved it. It takes just over an hour to go around everything, you can't touch the tanks or sealife because of covid but we still had a really good time there. I def recommend if you have a couple of hours spare,go pay the aquarium a visit, you won't be disappointed. I will go back once restrictions ease.
H. T.
Great time had by kids and us!! Really well kept aquarium and talks by staff were fun and informative 👍 who knew lobsters were left or right handed?! / clawed!!!
S. B.
An absolute must for adults and young children if you're in the area.
A. A.
Our children 1 and 3 loved it!
K. F. M.
Beautiful aquarium just little 😉
T. J.
Not huge but super interesting, and the staff are really friendly and polite.
Frazer who was feeding the fish was very knowledgeable and friendly, and answered some questions I had.
I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend a visit, it is amazing to see what is off the coast in the UK. I would definitely visit again and this was my second visit.
D. D.
Lovely little aquarium in Macduff harbour. Shark obsessed 5 year old loved it.
A. O.
Lovely place where I go back often. Lots of fun for the kids. If you time it right, they do all sorts of talks. It's worth checking their website prior to visiting. The aquarium is small and it doesn't take long to go around, but the ticket is valid all day, so it's easy to go in and out as you please or according to the talks you want to hear. They have a touch pool where you can touch sea stars and anemones. Overall always a great experience. Super friendly staff too!!
D. F.
Small sealife centre which is home to Scotland's indigenous aquatic wildlife, located on a coastal road just outside Macduff.
Lots to see and there's a touch pool too for you to be able to get up close to animals such as starfish and hermit crabs.
The resident octopus is no longer able to see as it had been released back into the wild but you could still see the baby sharks in their pouches waiting to hatch.
You won't need to spend long here, 90 minutes at most but definitely worth a visit.
G. W.
Good for a afternoon out
C. Z.
A lovely little aquarium, great way to pass an hour with little ones. Although small, it was nice to find an aquarium that has focused on local sea life rather than increasing in size simply to increase footfall.
A. J.
Nice place for a lovely walk .
G. S.
Not too crowded and plenty to see.
C. G.
It's a lovely family outing. Been twice recently. A small cafe would be a great addition.
S. A.
Not a bad aquarium, entrance fee reflects how big it is, but worth a visit to spend an hour of your time.
E. B. (.
Kids loved it
C. S.
Excellent place to visit. Reasonably priced and plenty to see. Gift shop is small but has a great selection. Easy to find and park at. Would recommend to everyone

Lovely Staff especially Joahn, Great presentation for Kids and adults about starfush :) will come back for sure !
J. M.
Brilliant wee place to visit highlight is the touch ponds where you can handle some sea creatures.
R. D.
Small but interesting, great for kids
C. C.
Took my 5 year old grandson. We all had a great day.
M. T.
Great little place to visit. Wasn't sure what to expect but it exceeded my expectations. Excellent for kids and they can get up close and personal to the fish and tanks. There are feeding session which provide interesting information about the fish. Good family day out
P. J. (.
It's a lovely place to go, lots of marine life that seem quite well taken care of. Although it's quite a bit smaller than I remember
p. M.
Absolutely fantastic and very informative, loved it
M. S. L.
Even with the Corona virus restrictions it was easy to book and explore the aquarium. Recommend for all
S. G.
Excellent aquarium. Clear and well presented tanks and activities. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Try to go at feeding time in the main tank.
P. W.
Quite small but still loads for kids to see. My two (aged 2 & 4) both absolutely loved it. The interactive talk - where they got to touch starfish, crabs, etc. - was fantastic and one of our highlights. Apparently there are many talks throughout the day but we were only there for that one. Will definitely be back.
C. J.
Great aquarium with UK fish and lots of information and exhibits, plus talks and hands on demonstrations.
C. H.
Really enjoyed my visit ! Great staff very informative was enjoyable watch the children's eyes light up that were there at the same time as us especially watching the divers inside the tanks with the fish showing all the children all the different species highly recommended for all to see .😊
D. B.
Lovely. Turned up and was told there was a free talk on sea monsters and myths later that day, so went to that too. Nice surprise and good to have random events like that.
Exhibits are good. Its never going to be a sprawling all-day attraction, but it can fill an hour or so. Staff were nice.
M. P.
Exciting aquarium about the fish and invertebrate that can be found in the Scottish sea. The exhibition is set around a big central tank full of huge fish, there are plenty of viewing points and it's a show that can be enjoyed for hours at a time. The rest of the tanks show the different habitats the fish live in, the importance of reducing the human impact on them, and the life cycle of different animals.
At the time of writing you can enter the aquarium only after buying the tickets online, there is a one way system in place and plenty of sanitiser stations along the route.
The staff was very helpful.
N. W.
Good day out with our granddaughter, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Fairly small venue but still managed to keep our 2year old occupied for an hour. Worth a trip.
j. d.
. The building is wheelchair accessible, however the disabled toilet is tiny with a wheelchair crammed in, which you have to maneuver past, it would be unsuitable for use by a wheelchair user who needs assistance, it's just not big enough. In my opinion the amount offered isn't worth the price for entry, the ticket is valid for a whole day but realistically the attraction is worth spending an hour at, at the most. It is still a great place to learn about our natural world. They have interactive touch boards to learn bout recycling and the animal kingdoms as well as some information about who, how, and why the system was of classification was made. They have an OK selection of fish and some great talks with quite detailed information making them suitable for all age groups
D. S.
A really good experience, particularly for the kids. Not as big as some of the major aquariums but many ways better for the interactivity that is a real feature of the attraction. Really well done to all involved. Only minor gripe would be that the ability to have a coffee would be really appreciated.
C. S.
Great little aquarium plenty to see and we were lucky we
J. E.
Really great place and one of the standout attractions for kids in the area. We have been back twice as there's a lot to see and do. Highly recommended!
L.
Probably no more than an hour and half can be spent here. Pretty expensive for what it is.
c. p.
Interesting
Great to see the fish at close quarters .
Wonderful to touch them too
G. H.
Just been to visit on a wet day with our 8 month old daughter who thought it as brilliant. She loved looking at the fish and even better that she can get so close to the tanks.
The place is a bit small, but offers a great learning experience for kids as we saw much older ones being able to pick up starfish with a little lesson from one of the staff.
You can go around as many times as you like, as we did and our daughter was just as excited every time she went round.
Will definitely be back in the very near future.
S. M.
Had a lovely morning here yesterday. Even though they were busy with school trips they still took the time to explain the days events and explain the layout. Daughter absolutely loves it and the ticket lasts the whole day so you can leave for lunch and return for the days talks and feedings
S. W.
Great day out for the kids and very informative.
G. N.
Just the right size, packed with fun activities and interesting information, could sit and watch the kelp reef all day long! Staff were lovely too.
S. T.
Great place, very friendly staff and some great sights to be seen. However despite all that was on offer, my 16 month old son was more fascinated by the small set of stairs he could climb up and down!
Definitely somewhere we could come visit again and again.
J. M.
Lots of information but quite small. Doesnt take log to go round the full place. I would say 15-30 mins depending on how interested you/the kids are
j. c. (.
Worth an hour of anybody's day. Wonderful experience no matter what age you are. Best to book ahead. Reasonably priced and good car parking.
P. M.
Small, so worth combining a visit with something else, but little ones love it.
C. H.
I've taken my son here twice and will definitely be going again soon. It's not too expensive and I love that all the fish on display (except for one small tank) are all local fish. I love how it's laid out. The large central tank is very peaceful to sit and watch. We sat though a talk which was informative and friendly. I have met several members of staff who are all very friendly and well informed. My son particularly loved the tanks where you can put your hand in the water and gently touch the creatures lurking in the shallows. An educational and entertaining day out.
m. b.
Awesome, had a great time here. Its a compact wee centre, but we think it's better than the place near Edinburgh
S. H.
We had an amazing time!
J. M.
A great wee aquarium and a cracking day out.
N. B.
Lovely wee gem of a place!!we watched a lot of videos whilst in lockdown and promised we'd visit when allowed 😆😆😆
l. h.
Always a great day out. Try to see one of the feeding times on your visit. The fish spotting guide is a big hit with the kids. Great little themed gift shop will have them desperate to spend their pocket money.
S. C.
Great for the family happy staff
T. D.
Tardis-like, packed with fascinating fish and other local sea creatures. Hours of fun and facts for kids of all ages. Mysteries of the deep and shallow, exploration and science galore. Adults won't be bored, either.
Special shows every hour or so; feeding the Octopus, the big tank divers (and their comic antics), and more, as well as regular info-tours. Your ticket lets you come and go all day.
Don't forget to give the sharks a tickle! No, seriously. The Rays, too. Watch out for the teeth parts, kids!
A small, sea-themed park for the little ones is right outside. It has a wooden boat. Their will be pirates.
I. M.
Lovely place, great staff, well worth a visit
M. T. L.
For such a small building they have been able to encapsulate so much. We had such a nice time and there was lots to see. Would recommend.
A. S.
I appreciated focus on locally found sealife. The sheet to help you guess the ones in the big tank is fun for all ages but more info on each species without needing QR codes or website would also be helpful. Would also have liked video and info on sharks, seals dolphins and whales that are sighted in area.
K. B.
I wouldn't know how it was as I was merely outside on my tablet .
E. G.
Small but really lovely to visit. Great place to take kids. Educational and interactive.
G. M. (.
We took my 9 y/o twins and they both enjoyed it. One of my sons is autistic and he loves this place. Dragged me round three times as it’s a circle inside.
S. L. D.
It is very good, just not very big.
R. B.
I enjoyed seeing local fish and sealife displayed. The exhibits seemed a lot better populated than at other aquariums I've been to.
J. M.
We really enjoyed our visit it looks small from the outside but there is a lot inside. They give you lots of information on all the creatures they have. Will certainly go back next time we visit the area
S.
Intriguing family day out. Its educational for everyone and boasts species common to the area that many people will have undoubtedly heard of but perhaps never seen.
Admission prices are reasonable and the gift shop is about as expensive as what you would normally find with exhibits such as this.
m. p.
A great place (excuse the pun) for families. Lots to see and the kids even get to touch some of the animals. Informative staff and a clean & friendly place. It could do with having a wee cafe for drinks and snacks... but there are some not far away I suppose.
z.
Fantastic place located in the heart of Macduff. You can see different kind of fishes. The aquarium is very interactive. Tickets are available on site. Affordable prices, discounts for seniors and family groups are available. Free car park located on site.
L. M.
Brilliant well worth a visit lots of fun for the wee ones.and the staff are brilliant .the divers are a must see
m. s.
Great couple hours friendly staff. We'll worth visit
T. F.
GG ood day with my grandkids!
H. R.
Brilliant. Haven't been for a couple of years, but it was as good if not better than I remember. It's worth catching, some of the talks and feeding, you learn some fascinating facts about our marine environment and it's inhabitants.
P. M.
Superb place for Kids to learn and understand the dynamics of the fish in the Moray Bay! The large tank, the touch pool and the sea lab which nurses the young fish are awesome attractions for the kids.
The quiz for the grown up kids and the find the fish chart for tiny tots is a great way to get kids interested and learning about the Sea Life by themselves.
An excellent place to spend a few hours with kids upto 14 years old on a educational trip.
H. D.
It's OK. You drive long .for just 30 mn max attraction . no cafe or place to take kids to play at least .
Most of it it's a working ship ward .
C. S.
Nice wee aquarium for little ones to see and learn about sea life and get up close and personal with the creatures of the sea. Set aside around 1.5 to 2 hours for a good look around and read of the different areas in Macduff Marine Aquarium.
Worth a visit and will likely return for another visit in the future.
The shop has some nice little gifts and ice creams as well.
M. P.
A real find. This is the best aquarium I've visited; far better than any of the Sea Life ilk. Yes, it's small so you could walk through in ten minutes, but take the time to see the diver talk and it's worth every penny. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is if you time it wrong and miss the show it would seem expensive. Plan ahead though and it's great.
L. C.
Great day out for kids and adults alike, staff good with kids, and filled them with info!
B. G.
Small, but really beautiful! We enjoyed a lot the nursery, very didactical. The ladies in the ticket office were very nice and informative.
M. M.
My trip was okay. Having been to Deep Sea World in the past, this aquarium felt really small and rather disappointing. The two are aquariums are in different leagues so perhaps unfair to compare the two but I couldn't help think how much better Deep Sea World is and for a similar price. Paid entry lasts the full day, there's a gift shop with good variety and there are multiple talks daily as well. The aquarium is wheelchair friendly and the staff are polite.
T. W.
Have visited Macduff aquarium a few times now and always thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It is a reasonably small aquarium but there are so many creatures to see you can happily spend a couple of hours here. We managed to catch three feeding/talk sessions today which was great. Looking forward to our next visit when it reopens for summer.
S. R.
Great wee aquarium, reasonable prices and you can go in and out as many times as you want.
S. A.
The Aquarium boasts a wonderful variety of local fish and sealife alongside highly informative and easy-to-read plaques. The Covid-19 measures in place are comforting and make the whole experience feel very safe. The online booking system is simple and easy to use! Highly recommended.
R. M.
Very entertaining and informative. Staff were very helpful.
J. A. M.
Fantastic day out for the whole family ....
There's so much to learn and see . I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area
D. M.
Not the biggest aquarium but still lovely. Kids loved it.
R. G.
A relatively small Aquarium but it makes up for the size by an amazing personal interaction by the extremely competent and knowledgeable staff. Lot of patience to explain things to kids. A great place to spend a day.
M. A.
A great place for children (&Adults) to be educated about our sea life and what it means to keep our beaches clean. Touching the small creatures is a great idea. We'll done.
D. M.
Great place to take the family
A. B. (.
A small, yet breathtaking marine aquarium in the quiet coastal town of Macduff. It is quite a trek from most places, but well worth the visit. The staff are knowledgable, passionate about their job, and helpful. The fish are superb. I'd go every weekend if I could, as my kids love it. Be aware that there is nowhere to eat at the aquarium, and Macduff isn't blessed with many good places to get lunch.
a. k.
Great for a wee day out .also to realise what is basically right on your doorstep👍👍
D. R.
Enjoyed my visit with my 2 girls aged 4 and 18 mths. Enjoyed seeing all the different fish. And had an informative person giving a talk on the different species.
C. C.
Quick visit, lots to see. Excellent displays and lots of relevant information displayed.
m. s.
Great place to visit for adults and kids ! A TARDIS full of surprises!
D. J.
Great for the kids to experience .
B. M.
Third visit with grandchildren and they love it....so do I ☺. Educational, interesting and interactive touch pools. The feeding time main tank event is most enjoyable.
K. G.
Great place. Great value.
S. G.
Really loved our trip. Perfect with our three-year-old, who loved the hands-on tank with the starfish. Great fun and really friendly staff.
D. M.
Great little aquarium with friendly local staff and fish.
L. R.
Great food and excellent service. I'll be visiting again soon and my visitors said it was the best meal of the holiday.
W. T.
Very nice place to go and you can touch some animals.there is little survenir schop i inside too.
K. S.
Great place for the family to visit. Very interesting and informative and if you're there at feeding times, then you can get to see the divers in action.
w.
Have to book a time slot before visiting. No divers in the big tank. Card payment only. No cash. Otherwise great.
J. D.
A good place to visit either with, or without children. Lots of interesting exhibits of British wildlife that lives in the sea. Friendly staff, little gift shop and the main tank is amazing. Definitely worth the trip to Macduff
R. C.
We had a lovely day out here. There were a lots of hands on activities and the staff were very informative and friendly. It's not a huge place, but it's well worth the visit!
A. L. J.
The wee one was memorized the staff were fully informed Great fun
A. B.
Kids love this place. Small but really good place for a whole family.
D.
Wonderful! Lots to see, and all looks really well looked after.

Great visit today! Staff were really helpful showing my wee fellow everything he asked about and actively searching out the Wolf fish for him.
We certainly will be back!
E. S.
Great place for the kids and adults. Not a huge aquarium but packed with lots to do and see.
I. H.
Small but well laid out very friendly staff who are willing to pass on information, good for kids.
L. f.
Fantastic and educational great for children primary age and younger been with my children and my grandchildren. my only disappointment is for a huge north sea it's very small and passes to quickly for the costs of entry, there's a gift shop right at the exit of the tour so no avoiding it a massive challenge for any parent to get past without the overpriced item's.
L. D.
Great friendly staff ,
Scuba divers put on a good show when feeding the fish, good place for both the kids and adults, good information all around the aquarium aswell
T. M.
Have taken my kids here a few times, friendly knowledgeable staff who are great with kids. Good shows, touching different creatures while learning about them and lots of fish to see!
I. W.
I've been a few times over the years, but really could do with a much bigger premises for the price of entry. Something like an underwater themed play area, I would have thought would be quite profitable. Unfortunately I can't see it changing much as they just don't have the space.
T. K.
Decent value for money , worth a visit if you in the area
C. M.
Great place to take the kids and explore the marine world
A. S.
Because of covid lots of things were not available like the touch pools and the feeding felt it was over and done with too quick but kids enjoyed it
J. M.
Very interesting & educational we had a great time.
F. K.
The museum was amazing and we managed to see the feeding in one of the tanks, the guy working there told us a lot of interesting stuff on the fish living in the tanks as well as on the rest of the fish, it was amazingly interesting, however, out little boy of 5 wasn't too interested in it, it was more for an older audience.
B. M.
Good day out for all ages !
p. g.
Lovely place good for children very helpful people
N. F.

Good little aquarium. Takes around an hour to go around, if you can catch one of the big tank talks they are good. Nice section for kids to hold starfish too.
N. J. C.
Nice place to visit to learn about the fish and creatures that live in the Moray Firth. Go at the right time and get to see them feeding the fish 🐠.

Really nice place to go, like the way they have sea water running through rge tanks filled with local fish, with education information about local fish found in the surrounding areas. An the dive show is awesome
C. Y.
Fantastic exhibits. Friendly staff. Great layout
M. W.
Small but very interesting. Friendly, helpful staff.
J.
Really Great attraction, considered to be expensive but if that's what they need to charge to keep the place open then fair enough. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
S. f. S.
Lovely little aquarium, with lots of fascinating information about our local oceans.
M. H.
We really enjoyed our visit. The staff were friendly and the kids loved seeing all the marine life. We will definitely be back.

S. T.
Great place for kids and adults, very nice and helpful staff.
C. B.
Small aquarium, but not massively expensive, poor signage so we ended up driving past it and then on the opposite side of a bollarded lane outside the aquarium, parking is free. Ideal for the kids
T. R.
Lovely atmosphere but quite small, my girls loved it but would prefer a larger display of aquatic creatures for the money
K. M.
Brilliant! Better than deep sea world at queensferry, cleaner , brighter, better!
H. R.
It's good place to go but it very smoll. If you going there and you have long drive better pick some more stuff to see in area as well.

(This review was written by my 9 year old son. He enjoyed to Aquarium so much he couldn’t wait to tell everyone. I’ve read and edited his review where necessary. I was impressed by the aquarium and found it very interesting. Despite being a small site it packs in a lot of species. Entry cost was reasonable too)
We visited the Aquarium and it was awesome! I loved it. At the counter they gave you a piece of paper with all the fishes and other creatures, and also had a map of the Aquarium layout. The place included Salmon,Octopus, and Norway Lobsters. In one bit you could touch things like crabs and star fish.It was brilliant. My only problem is the shop was very expensive (Me: actually just normal for these places but at least the kids found something affordable with their pocket money) .Except for that it was great! I was really excited about it as it was a surprise and my family was really happy too. Great for us all!👍
S. W.
