Another fascinating historical site in the Birmingham Museums collection. The home of Matthew Boulton, built next to his Soho Manufactory and the venue for the Lunar Society meetings. Recommended to those interested in the history of Birmingham and industrialism. The an hour guided tour with our knowledgeable guide was far too short - there was so much to learn and explore! Most suitable for adults and older teenagers, access currently by guided tours only, no onsite parking (check their website for details before visiting).
We also saw the "Blood & Fire: Our Journey Through Vanley Burke's History" exhibition, which the local British-Jamaican community may find particularly interesting. It certainly brought memories for my mother-in-law. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge.

Went today to see a fantastic exhibition of photos and ephemera from the genius and visionary who is Vanley Burke. Well worth seeing. Also did the tour of Soho House and were treated to a fascinating talk about the Boulton family and associates. Learned loads. Well worth a visit. (And high time Birms council added and archive of Black Birmingham history to the museum).

Lovely , quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Volunteers were very knowledgeable and I learn about many facts regarding Soho house. There were a tall gentleman with grey hair and a lady with a beautiful flower cord over the hair and they tell us different interesting things about Lunar society , about Birmingham in that time. That make me feel proud of the city I live in.The museum looks great and take us in 17th-18th century. In every room were panels where you can read about what that room shown and other few important informations. Museum are laying on ground and first floor where you can reach by using the stairs or using the lift. On the other wing by the house is a Cafe where you can have a ground coffee, tea, cakes, fruits, drinks. You can serve it in or out in the little garden. Also, anyone can enjoying doing some crafts while having a hit/cold drink. There is a little garden and also parking, including for disabled people. Despite that Soho House is located by Soho road which is a very busy road there was so much quietness and peaceful. I couldnt believe I'm just by the main road and the sounds can penetrate the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere here. I would definitely be back soon and spend more time here.

Had a lovely picnic last Sunday. We set off Handsworth choir sang well. An orchestra entertained us while we are. There was arty crafty stuff going on and entrance to the house was free, it was great meeting friends. There was a lovely cake for the 100th anniversary of the civic society. We lazed on the grass, watched people play croquet, dribbling football, having a good time. We didn't go in the hall but some of the guys came out in costume. It's strange that in the way there we asked people who didn't know where it was. They need to leaflet

This building is an important part of world history. The industrial revolution began to take shape here. The guided tours varied in quality tho the content was interesting.
National trust members get a good discount although I had to ask.

I visited the museum when they where hosting a steam rally. The rally it's self was rather lack luster. However Soho House was very interesting. I was impressed by the preservation of the interior; the number of original items; and period decor. The staff were very helpful and informative. One member was even in period dress. I did think the entry price was a bit high for the size of the museum, which I would class as small, but I suppose that is the cost of preservation. Certainly worth a visit if you are interested in the industrial revolution.

The home of Matthew Boulton with brilliant guided tours.

There was an informative and entertaining guided tour. However on previous occasions I went there was a really good exhibition in the visitors' centre about Boulton which has been removed. In its place a rather unappealing exhibition space with a rather dull show about Erasmus Darwin.

A nice bit of history not too far from the city centre

A really enjoyable experience, the guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of Matthew Bolton and how he influenced the industrial revolution et cetera. The house is restored to a lovely standard with period furniture and decor. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours learning about the historic Influence of the building and on Birmingham. Would recommend a visit from anybody who is interested in industrial revolution and on Birmingham City.

The main house was not small child friendly. Pushchairs are awkward to manoeuvre around. The grounds are small and the area around the Manor seemed rough. We went on a special event day so not sure if its better when it's not so busy.

The guided tour was very informative, sadly the "Free 1st Sunday of the Month " no longer exists. Tea room limited selection but very tasty cakes. Please check Muesem opening dates.

Went to first Italian Street Food Festival and in all honesty I was disappointed. I was expecting a bigger event than it actually was but despite that we had some nice food and drink. Maybe next time go for a bigger event at a bigger venue with more for visitors to see and do?

Fascinating. Just a fraction of the large scale industries that were set up here by Matthew Boulton.

Attended a meeting here - great venue and the tour was awesome. Very helpful staff. Good catering too (shame proper coffee machine was out of order but cake made up for it!)

My wife and I have just visited the former home of Matthew Boulton at Soho House. Nice to see Birmingham making more of its history and heritage. The guide, Gillian, was excellent and brought it to life. A short Uber ride from central Birmingham, the Soho House is a lovingly restored and furnished home from the mid 1700's. At the family home of Matthew Boulton,

Lovely place for a small family wedding

This is a fascinating place which deserves to be better known (along with several other Birmingham houses and museums). It is the former home of Matthew Boulton, the first to introduce the factory system in Birmingham. His factory (or Manufactory) was just by his house but has sadly been demolished. At Soho House you have to take a guided tour. The guide was interesting and very well informed but the tour was a bit long (almost 1.5 hours as opposed to the 1 hour advertised). The house is a very well restored Georgian house and contains much original furnishing and a small museum section with articles made at the Manufactory and Mint. At the moment there is a focus on James Watt, Boulton's partner, as it is the 200th anniversary of his death. The house was the usual meeting place for the Lunar Society, a late 18th century group of scientists and engineers and the successor of this society is running a large programme of events to mark the anniversary. Soho House is well worth a visit.
