The station closed in 1958. Excursions ran into the 1960s. The platforms and buildings were removed in the 1980s as electrification of the East Coast Mainline progressed. From 1984 reopening has been an issue possibly with relocation south of Stipe Road Bridge. Rossington Level Crossing acted as its bridge.
