Reviews of Lincoln Cathedral
N. C.
As a non religious person it was still an amazing opportunity to see the architecture from year's gone by. The pure scale of the building is amazing and all before huge cranes and lifts. The cathedral was free to enter although there was a small charge if you wished to take the extended tour, which I believe also had a guide. If you take the very informative open top bus tour it will save you the long trek up Steep Hill and you can use the bus 'Hop on/off' for two days.
I.
We have had the chance to visit the Cathedral which was splendid for a donation of £5 each, which seems reasonable when you think of the splendour of the monument.
A woman from the church was also so welcoming and friendly. She really mare us appreciate our visit.
And the attached pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this Cathedral.

Loved our family day trip out to you today. The moon was fantastic. We loved seeing the history and learning about everything that goes on here. Kids enjoyed the interactive room at the end. Thanks for a great day

Amazing stonework, really fascinating, beautiful cathedral. Lots of dragons. A lovely peaceful atmosphere despite it being busy. They've made it welcoming for children too with a backpack to borrow with things in to bring it to life for them and binoculars and a guide of things to spot. My kids especially enjoyed the discovery room at the end which had some toys, crafts and dressing up.

An absolutely stunning piece of architecture in every way. Standing below the twin turrets at the cathedral's front, your eyes are in for a rare feast. The level of included fine detail, created by the ancient builders of this truly huge building, is nothing less than astounding. Lasting for over 950 years is testimony as to its amazing quality of design. The construction and decoration are fitting monuments to Christianity but also, a singularly beautiful example of the incredible ingenuity of humankind. The atmosphere of the village surrounding the cathedral is both friendly and genuine old English at its very best.. Naturally, its a photographer's dream as well :-)
Also, in this sad time, I would ask that you rest in peace, Your Magesty Queen Elizabeth II. After her long lifetime, we give thanks and stand in awe of such dedication and service. Apart from this, she was indeed a beautiful, thoughtful woman. And an incredible mother and Grandmother. Not just to her own family, but to generations of our families as well.
Sincere condolences to all family members, friends and even simple admirers such as myself, who will all miss your smile, your yearly message of encouragement and once again, your life of service and unwavering dignity.

Wonderful Cathedral and well-worth a visit to Lincoln to wander the grounds and admire the soaring architecture. You can enter and get a reasonable view of the vast interior but to explore further costs a whopping £9 per head (£7.50 for concessions). We didn’t think it was worth the more than £40 cost for our family group. Shame. But all the same a great place to visit.
BTW, Im sure anyone would love to live in one of the (Georgian?) terraced houses opposite the front of the cathedral and near the arched gateway. The whole area is a delight and worth the climb from Lincoln’s town centre. I’d definitely come again and if it was just me, I might just be prepared to fork out the £9 to peek in the nave and around the transept. There are also cathedral tours by enthusiastic guides. BTW, if you think you hear a weird deep sound on entering or exiting the cathedral, it’s not a mouse treading on the organ console - it’s Lucy the Dragon embedded in the nearby castle walls!
T. C.
Now that is a cathedral. 900 years of history tied up in it's stonework. Multiple styles of architecture. It's absolutely worth the money to walk around and if you get a chance go for the rooftop tour to see behind the scenes and the amazing views.

I wanted to visit this cathedral for a long time as it was meant to be magnificent: it surpassed my expectations!
Grade 1 listed builing, this most wonderful cathedral is almost 1000 years old. The 4th largest in area in the UK, it is arguably the most beautiful one.
Built in the Early Gothic style is a testament to what it can be achieved when human mind and body work in unison to the limit.
As you reach the top of Steep Hill and go through Exchequer Gate into the grounds of the Cathedral, nothing really prepares you for what meets your eyes: the front with the western towers is truly spectacular. If you can still breathe after the walk up the hill, well, this will certainly take your breath away!
The exterior is magnificent with amazing stone work, but the interior even more so, the rose windows and vaults spectacular. There are other cathedrals closer to my heart, but if I had to recommend a visit to only one in the UK, I think I would go for this one. Absolutely awe-inspiring!
PS: don't forget to look for the imp, a grotesque of a mischievous demon, at the top of a column up in the walls. Tiny but fun to look for.

Lincoln Cathedral is well worth a visit and we would have joined a guided tour which were on offer but we only had a limited amount of time in Lincoln. The Cathedral is stunning and vast you are given a map when you pay which was £9 per adult but once you pay if you keep your ticket you can go back as many times as you like. Look out for the Lincoln Imp there is a sign showing you were to look.

Huge cathedral in the heart of Lincoln city, very close to the Castle. Always beautifully presented with various attractions and events throughout the year. Inexpensive to enter and well worth spending a bit of time exploring the interior as well as walking the exterior perimeter. Highly recommended.
N. K.
The third-largest English Cathedral, and undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable to visit. Lincoln Cathedral is one of the high points of Gothic architecture; a superbly harmonious showcase of decorative art. Highly recommended to visit!
C. B.
Staying in Lincoln for 2 nights on business. Took a leisurely walk up to the cathedral and wandered around the narrow cobbled streets. Very quaint, lots of history and ideal for a peaceful short break.
N. N.
It is so beautiful. You can see so much history within the walls. We were lucky enough to have a volunteer at the Cathedral give us an explanation of one of the areas inside. Definitely recommend going, even if you’re not big into history (myself included).
A. H.
I went to the flower festival in our amazing Cathedral and I wasn't disappointed - so much time and effort given by the team and the exhibibitors. Lincoln Cathedral is such an amazing building, I'm in awe of it - and have been for well over 40 years (or longer!).
M. A.
Beautiful cathedral. Amazing sculptures and stained glass. Massive building which you can spend lots of time getting lost in the details. The outside is just as amazing as the inside. The sheer size of the cathedral in comparison to you is overwhelming. Free entry on Sundays after service. Location is great as well, very close to Lincoln castle and many restaurants.
S. H.
Stunning, huge cathedral in a lovely city. We signed the book of condolences for the Queen and lit a candle. So much to see and a great new visitor centre and cafe.
C. B.
An inspiringly beautiful place of worship, replete with devotion, quietude and craftsmanship. A timely visit, we heard the peregrines, saw the evening sun on the golden west front, walked on time-polished flagstones, absorbed the glorious light through medieval glass, its colours spilling onto the floor...
K. D.
We spent quite a lot of time here as we did the roof tour as well as the building tour. Both tours are great but I think we got much more from the roof tour.
This is a stunning building with so much to see and so many incredible details everywhere
R. S.
We had a fabulous visit to Lincoln Cathedral and did the rooftop tour. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and was absolutely brilliant. We loved it, definitely worth a visit.
M. K.
Stunning historical site. Visited the castle and cathedral in the same day. View from castle tower was mesmerising. Would also recommend a trip to the Arboretum. The walk uphill is quite steep and may prove a challenge for some.
M. T.
A beautiful building with over a thousand years of history all under one roof. It was a pleasure to view and a must for british history buffs to visit.
My only complaint was that my Latin is not great, so a few signs with english translation & a small description of what we were looking at would have been a nice touch.
I had my children with me so we were trying to make the visit entertaining for them too.
On a positive, I could have easily spent weeks exploring the place and the historical treasures within.
g. m. (.
Beautiful cathedral at the top of Lincoln. We live not too far away so just drove over in the evening to see it lit up. Just RED on our visit, but looked spectacular. My photos do not do it justice.
r.
A very grand cathedral that looks over the city. The architecture inspires awe and there is much to be seen here.
The cathedral has an awful lot of history on offer and the current restoration efforts are very commendable. I believe this cathedral strives to maintain its place in people's lives, offering unique chances for practical education and learning.
It is a shame that the ticket prices can be a little on the high side but it is clearly well spent by them. I do respect their decision to currently suspend them during the national mourning period.
H. K.
A beautiful place, with feel of a true place of worship that the best old churches snd cathedrals have. Some really interesting exhibitions too along with a really nice gift shop and cafe.
A. H.
Absolutely incredible!! I was surprised to see that it was free to walk around, we made a donation and lit a candle for our loved ones! It was lovely to hear the organ being played, we sat and reflected for a little time. It is definitely worth a visit.
T. B.
Stunning early English Gothic cathedral. So much to see. Don't miss the choir stalls, the Duncan Grant murals in the Russell chantry and Katherine Swynford's tomb. Excellent new visitor centre too.
L. P.
Wow.. amazing place. 👏 the architecture is outstanding, a must see. Lovely gift shop and dining area.
P. B.
Overwhelmingly huge and interesting. I could have spent hours here. The town outside of the gate is also well worth the visit.
K. F.
Great place , one place should really see. We always used to just look at the outside but moon exhibition drew us in and wow what we have been missing building is huge and full of history and interesting things.
h. o.
One of the many reasons I love to visit Cathedrals is not only The beauty of them but they are often in beautiful areas with lots of interesting shops around them and Lincoln Cathedral certainly ticks this box with the castle minutes away.
One historical person that has always intrigued me was Eleanor of Castile and how she seems to have completely mesmerised Edward 1 . Well she is at rest here or at least part of her is with the rest at Westminster Abbey and also 12 Eleanor crosses at intervals between Lincoln and London . And how glorious she looks .
She is in good company Katherine Swynford , Saint Hugh , Remigius de Fecamp to name but a few and of course the Lincoln Imp encased in the stone work .
There are lots of small Chapels around the perimeter but I must mention three in particular one for the Army , Navy and RAF respectively . The RAF is very important to Lincolnshire with many bases there during WW11 and affectionately remembered here. I must say all three were great but I did like the Army's St Georges Chapel with some great decorative carving and painting .
At the end of each transept is a huge rose window one of which I think is called the Bishops Eye the other the Dean's Eye . They are quite stunning as is all the stained glass here .
This building is huge and sat on top of a hill giving fantastic views I should imagine all around as you approach the City the way I came from there was .
It was Remigius de Fecamp who built the original Cathedral sadly destroyed in an earthquake before Saint Hugh rebuilt it . The guides are very informative and you really should go on a tour . I loved it and I am sure you will too if you visit .
A. _.
Amazing place, especially during Christmas. It is literally beautiful inside and out. Take your time walking through, to see all the little details. We will be going back during the spring, when there's more daylight. However, during December, its best to view at night.
A. S.
What a beautiful building. So good to be back again. Visited during service time before and took part. The history in this place is amazing
W. I.
Beautiful cathedral ❤️ There was a flower festival on the day I went and there were many flowers organized every spot of cathedral. I paid £15 per person today due to festival. In my opinion, festival was ok for me but I better come to visut here without festival to see the holy environment as it should be but it's ok. Well organized.
Q. G.
So much to do here from the narrow steep streets of the bold town to the shopping centre and nightlife.
Then only downsides that getting a taxi is tough with only one or two firms serving the city. No Uber in Lincoln.
m.
Visited today to see the very popular moon exhibition and play. Excellent to see so many people visiting. Despite the large queue it soon went down.
J.
Love Lincoln cathedral, when I can see it I know I'm nearly home! Absolutely amazing inside. We went in to pay our condolences to the Queen, it was a lovely experience.
G.
Just look at it…. It’s on an epic scale!
Begun after the Norman Conquest and development over centuries
The earliest strategic importance if Lincoln recognised by the Romans. The rest is ‘history’ it’s obvious…
#Ask excellent guide Liz and the team for a tour
How on earth did they build these places?
Makes you think!
R. M.
The sheer size of this place can only be appreciated when standing below it, truly staggering. If you hear the organs being played I would 100% go in, if they aren't the architecture alone is enough to leave you in awe of how these places are as old as they are.
R. B.
Still continues to amaze every time. From an architectural point of view, is there really a finer, more awe-inspiring building anywhere in the UK? Other cathedrals come close, other buildings come close, yet nothing can touch the majesty or beauty of Lincoln Cathedral. Just mind- boggling the sheer endeavour and workmanship that went into creating it over the centuries as well as the craft in restoring and maintaining it.
Buildings like this will never be created again, ever! Now it's glass- fronted, straight lines and sleek finishes. Lincoln's cathedral is truly one of the great man-made wonders of the world.
From a religious perspective: clearly this site was of immense importance.
L. H.
An absolutely grand and beautiful cathedral. Was so nice to walk around inside and see the history and art. They have many different features and rooms to see. Plus gardens. And a lovely gift shop plus cafe. Thank you would visit again
E. E.
Spectacular medieval cathedral. Look out for the imp. If visiting Lincoln start your visit here so you can walk DOWN Steep Street into the city rather than the other way round
A. L.
Such a stunning and iconic building built in 1092 and a wonderful setting for graduation ceremonies which we were at recently. Full of history with beautiful stained glass windows. So worth a visit and don't forget to go to the castle opposite.
J. D.
absolutely beautiful! i made it my mission whilst in lincoln to walk up to and properly see the cathedral. Lived up to what I expected, a beautiful building with some beautiful scenic views xx
M. A.
Absolutely fantastic absolutely amazing!! It's just absolutely phenomenal.!! So beautiful and just so unbelievably awesome!
Here's some photos of me and my ex n my brother back in 1998/1999 era outside of it. 😆
I was very young there and so was my brother!
Me and Nicola Parkin n Jonathan. 😉👍
Just want to say i found these photos in a old camera pack the ones u used to get in photograph shops! (Wind on film) 🤣
S. H.
Fabulous architecture, stunning so much work has gone into this cathedral, a must see if your in the area
C.
I can’t add to the superlative descriptions of this truly wonderful cathedral, but if you get the chance it’s well popping in to see the current as of February 2022 Moon exhibit which is inspiring!
A. 5.
Beautiful building to visit. There is an entrance fee of £9 per adult, £7.50 (I think!) for concessions, unsure about children. Lots of history here.
K. P.
Magnificent building. Unfortunately it was dark when we were there. Can imagine with light through the stained glass windows and more time to look around would have been even better.
J. D.
A proper landmark atop of the hill and visible from a distance and just as impressive close up. Lots of masonry carvings to admire and the interior is just as spectacular.
A. F.
This is surely a fine example of History, Architecture, and Culture coming together. A great day out. We arrived early on a Monday which wasn't at all busy and explored the outside and surrounding streets & shops before joining a free talk tour. It was fascinating and lasted one hour. Recommended.
P. C.
I have travelled throughout the UK and for me personally this is one of the best Cathedral's in the country. The whole building is rich in its detail, and is both impressive and outside/inside. I would highly recomend visting here.
R. S.
An absolutely stunning 11th century, gothic styled cathedral that overlooks the beautiful town centre of Lincoln itself.
The walk from the town to the city is an experience in itself due to the infamously steep hill filled with all manner of gift shops and quaint little eateries. Upon reaching the top, you are met with a truly splendid sight. The magnificent building is truly wonderful to look upon.
There are tours and numerous distractions within the cathedral itself, and the inside is just as beautiful as the outside. There is a small cafeteria for refreshments, allowing you to bask in the glory of the setting.
For those who like to take photographs, there sre no shortage of opportunities, including some of my personal favourites, the stained glass windows.
I have no option but to give this a 5star review, but words alone do not express how much it is worth visiting.
И. С.
Beautiful place. The sound of the organ is simply mesmerizing. You can spend the whole day looking at the frescoes. Just a fantastic cathedral.
m. j.
Wonderfully kept cathedral. The childrens' information room is worth a look. Can you find the imp inside?
R. C.
Excellent roof tour with a fantastic volunteer who was passionate and knowledgeable. All the staff along the way were welcoming and friendly. Always a pleasure to visit.
Also your ticket is reusable for a year!
B. W.
A magnificent building. Could share this day with the Festival of flowers held every 4 years.
P.
We did the floor tour .very good .excellent information from guide. The history of the place is so fascinating. The size of the place is awe inspiring. The ancient graffiti is a moment captured in time the whole space has an atmosphere, a must visit
J.
A really beautiful place and the area around the cathedral is kept tidy, The staff are welcoming and helpful and there is so much to see it's overwhelming.
T. D.
Amazing time, seeing the moon suspended in the main hall. Children enjoyed themselves too, with it even if an event isn't on
J. B.
Very beautiful building, tour of the cathedral floor was excellent and guide was very good. We also did the rooftop tour which was amazing, you get to go into the roof space and see the master craftsmanship that holds the building together.
I.
Beautiful Cathedral 😍 we visited 25.12.2021. and my little one wants pray for God. Beautiful Christmas day x
H. K.
Fabulous ,we went to evensong for free, great the cathedral also had the moon on display the experience was brilliant
J. J.
Night time at the cathedral is spectacular. The 3D experience cannot be replicated on film. Lincoln is a fine place to visit.
J. A. B.
Just Fantastic!! Words fail me! Outside it's stupendous.... and then inside !! ... it takes you a whole different level. Ethereal. What the peasants from their hovels made of it, when confronted with this huge majestic edifice ... overwhelming, no wonder they believed in God.
E. S.
If you can, get a guided tour, it's so worth it. Their knowledge is incredible, such rich history. Highly recommended
C. E.
Although part of the cathedral was closed when we visited, it was great to see such a well looked and beautiful site. Well worth a visit if you go to Lincoln!
S. D.
Wonderful for a peaceful walk round. Rich history, lovely stained glass windows and guided tours included in the price. Good value
A. B.
It is worth visiting... Did you know that the Magna Carta was signed there? The Cathedral is absolutely amazing. You will enjoy the peace that the walls bring, and also all the beautiful stained glasses which are a work of art. You can light a candle for loved ones and say a prayer for their soul. Also did you know that the Lincoln Cathedral was the highest place in the world until the Eiffel tower was built. If you have the chance go and have a tour of the Cathedral and the city.
U. R.
Beautiful cathedral, lovely architecture, nice setting, difficult to get car parking place, there's only one car park close to it rest are down the hill, difficult for elderly people to climb up
D. M.
Beautiful and fascinating cathedral, the intricate gothic architecture is like nothing I have ever seen before, and the history is just amazing. Members of staff were very friendly and explained very helpfully the history of some of the artwork.
B. H.
Simply stunning, one of the great English cathedrals. Its sheer scale and beauty are overwhelming and the atmosphere and spirituality are palpable even for the non-religious.
S. D.
Beautiful. Stunning. Full of history. Would have loved to do the tour but didnt have enough time. It takes about an hour.
R. M.
Absolutely stunning cathedral. We also did the roof tour. Penny our guide was brilliant, full of interesting information, her enthusiasm was clearly evident. It was fascinating to see some of the less visited parts of the cathedral and there were some awesome views along the way. Highly recommend.
For reference, we were carefully warned that this was not a tour suitable for those with a fear of heights and it definitely wasn't!
G. M.
Took my son to see the exhibition of the moon here, and what an amazing cathedral this is, I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
B. V.
Impressive stonework, beautiful architecture in a lovely little town.
A. K.
Lincoln Cathedral!!! It is one of the most impressive minster from United Kingdom. Lincoln is a city with almost 100.000 inhabitants and when you travel to this city you do not think to find here such an amazing cathedral. The official name of this Minster is Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln. Construction of this cathedral started in 1072 and ended in 1311. When they finished the cathedral the central spire had 160 m.The construction was builded in Gothic style. This cathedral was the tallest building in the world for 238 years, because in 1548 the central spire collapsed. For hundreds of years the cathedral held one of the four remaining copies of the original Magna Carta, now securely displayed in Lincoln Castle. The cathedral is the fourth largest in the UK (in floor area) at around 5,000 square metres. Lincoln Cathedral is one of the few English cathedrals built from the rock it is standing on. Maintaining the cathedral costs £1.6 million a year. A major renovation of the West Front was done in 2000. Every year more than 150,000 people visit the Lincoln Cathedral. It is a Grade I listed cathedral and is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Lincoln. If you want to visit the entire site you have to pay £9, which is a decent amount.
a. m.
Such a beautiful Cathedral you could spend hours just looking at all the artwork on the stone on the outside. And then when you enter inside the Cathedral words cannot explain what its like
J. N.
Beautiful, wonderful, fabulous! Amazing Cathedral with a wonderful history. The docents are very knowledgeable. The rooftop tour is fascinating.
As far as any worries about the steps, rest assured it's a very easy climb. Maybe a two/three out of five. There are plenty of pauses along the way. MOST of the steps are very wide. The tour itself is absolutely a five out of five!
E. C.
Had a loverly walk around the cathedral today. Was great as park was great and you have 2 hours aswell. Such a beautiful cathedral. The staff in the shop are very friendly aswell and distance is kept at all times
J. P.
Impressive Cathedral, looks amazing on the outside and even more so on the inside.
D. L.
Amazing Place cathedral, both outside and inside
Inside very Interesting.
B. J.
A great place to visit. We were there for 2 hours but you could easily spend another hour or so. We took the tour of the cathedral. It was fascinating and worth taking if visiting. An incredible building. Unfortunately we didn't have time to take the tower or roof tours but these look worth doing.
D. C.
The most amazing experience of our daughters graduation in Lincoln Cathedral.
Tip 1. Park in the town and get the bus up there
Tip 2. 7 or the 8 will get you up there and it's a 10 minute ride.
Tip 3. Just enjoy the ambient feel when you get in and when they get to the letter M parents start hollering cause they are bored clapping 👏
I'd say be respectful, this is still a house of god. Which has survived since the 11th century 🤯
K. J.
Took our son to start his exciting time at Lincoln University, and as we were there decided to check out the cathedral and wasn't disappointed well worth the trip was surprisedby the entrance fee as here in Wells cathedralit is free to get in, however with this said we had a guided tour and was worth the money.
J. B.
Recommended to me as a particular place to see, I had based a short stay in Lincoln around seeing the cathedral. Unfortunately, the entire western end of the building turned out to be closed for filming throughout our visit! Only through the kind offer of one of the volunteer guides did we get to look briefly at the transept and nave. The usual entrance fee was reduced by 50% in view of the above restrictions, however it would have been good to find out about the closure in advance. It is worth mentioning that, as part of the entrance fee, you can also tour a small visitor centre showing interesting artefacts from the cathedral & its library. We enjoyed a quick lunch in the very busy cafe and went in search of the Archbishop's Palace which, sadly, was also closed to visitors due to ongoing renovation work. Highlights for me of our visit were the tombs of Queen Eleanor of Castile and Katherine Swynford, Duchess of Lancaster, as well as sight of an original letter written by Sir Thomas Boleyn to Margaret of Austria, Duchess of Savoy in 1514.
J. M.
Excellent example of gothic architecture, different tours are available, roof tour etc. definitely worth a visit
C. C.
Wonderful cathedral steeped in history. Visited twice now in about 4 years and done the cathedral roof tour on both occasions. Extremely interesting and got some fab photos from a very different perspective.
T. M.
An amazing Cathedral and its well worth joining the tour as you learn so much that you wouldn't normally. There is 2 hour parking at one side of the Cathedral at the top of steep hill. 1 hour parking is just around the corner too. You can easily spend 2 hours in the Cathedral. The Castle is very close to the Cathedral. There is also a hop off and hop on bus that takes you up Steep Hill.
J. H.
What a beautiful cathedral, I have always wanted to have a look and it really was nice.
A. H.
The cathedral and cathedral quarter is fantastic. The cathedral itself took a few hours ... excellent experience
B. R.
Absolutely worth a visit quite a climb up (hurts your eyes to look up the street let alone your legs!!) ! to cathedral from lower shopping area tho would say you need to be fairly fit!! Worth it when you get there a facinating place to visit.
C. L.
Watched a live performance of the snowman here, what a fantastic Cathedral, Amazing place! Definitely a place to visit if you're in the UK. ☺
K. F.
Amazing to be able to take my dog around the cathedral. A beautiful building with a fantastic history. This is a must visit if you're in the area. The food in the restaurant is also very lovely. Sadly we were unable to see it all but by happy coincidence, our ticket is valid for a full 12 months. So next spring, guess where we will be! 😊
H. W.
Lincoln Cathedral is absolutely beautiful. Stunning architecture, as you walk around the outside it just keeps giving.
£10 entry fee - not too badly priced as one can only imagine how much it would cost for the up keep! The stain glass windows and ceilings are breathtaking.
Well worth a visit.
M. C.
I was at a wedding which was a new way of experiencing the Cathedral, the bride is in the Choir, so of Course the Cathedral Choir was there. It was incredible. Singing, architecture, resonant power of the structure. The building is one of the best in the world. A great place to visit.
K. M.
Absolutely magnificent and breathtaking!!! I spent there 3h just walking about. Highly recommended!
D. A.
Magnificent historic building - do the outside guided tour if you can. Also visit new garden on North side overlooking beautiful new gardens, Wren library and Dean's Eye window. Very peaceful and calming place to sit and wonder
P. J.
Very nice outside. Unfortunately didn't come inside - big queue and nearly £10 to get in.
S. A.
I went on a tower tour recently (book up very early, there are very limited spaces) and the two guides were excellent, very friendly and very knowledgeable. In the tour we walked up the steps to the clock room, then the bell room and finally to the roof of the central tower. It was a lot of steps but the view was well worth it. Being in the bell room when the hour bell was struck was something else, so loud. Only disappointment was that after I tried to go on the normal cathedral tour after we had finished the tower tour I was told they were finished for the day. I felt a bit cheated considering I paid extra for the tower tour. That's why there are 4 stars instead of 5.
J. L.
An absolutely stunning place to visit. It's a huge place and so much to see. It's beauty is breathtaking. An absolute must if you visit Lincoln.
J. M.
A breathtaking building, well worth a visit.
S. B.
Absolutely stunning and worth the visit. We got there late in the afternoon and only managed to see it around ourselves. I wish we could have done a tour.
Y. K.
A magnificent, impressive building with an interesting story. It is worth visiting.
E. R.
Absolutely stunning and majestic cathedral!
Both inside and outside.
Worth visiting.
D. L.
No shop or cafe open at the moment, but still a great place to visit. A stunning piece of architecture. Wheelchair access and friendly throughout. Do the Castle and Catherdral together... saves climbing the hill twice. Lots of cafes outside and lits of quirky shops. Worth the walk outside to see the sites and views.
I. s. S.
My favourite place in Lincoln ❤ adore Cathedral every time, when I see it. We do late walk there whit dog...there is quite and peaceful 😌
a. n.
Wonderful piece of history, worth a visit for sure
É. Z.
Amazing, must see cathedral!
Z. Z.
Visit the cathedral in the right time really makes a difference. The glorious golden lights all the cathedral tower when sun sets. This is the moment that you would like to sit down and have a drink 🥃, just relax, enjoying the beauty.
C. O.
Worth a visit. You pay an entrance fee but you can visit as many times as you want for 2 years. As I live down south it was of no value to me. However there are some wonderful stained glass windows.
T. I.
One of most beautiful cathedrals in England.
One of must see places.
K. H.
We took a spontaneous walk around the grounds and was not dissapointed! The area is well kept and clean the views were spectacular, a must for anyone to do. We plan to go again to visit inside the building, as it is just so beautiful.
A. W.
It is very beautiful and fascinating inside Lincoln cathedral. Wonder stain glass windows are colourful and a great place for tourists to look around in. Those who haven't been there yet, why not give it a try?
n. e.
Saw this for the very first time. Absolutely spectacular. Beautiful architecture. Saw it when it was lit up at night time. Stunning building
K. B.
Very beautiful cathedral. Interesting guide explaining the history of the building - particularly love the Imp story. Amazing carving with faces that are so lifelike, quite extraordinary. Well worth the visit to this amazing historical place.
P. H.
Outstanding cathedral, very spiritual, do not leave Lincoln without visiting
A. M.
Beautiful cathedral, graduated here in 2019! It always looks stunning
b. M.
Went to sign condolence book for queen Elizabeth very well organized and lovely peaceful atmosphere to light candle thankyou Lincoln cathedral
R. L.
Wonderfull Cathedral, during our visit a choir was practicing, spend some time listening.
M. M. C.
Extraordinary Experience.
I feel so powerful and in harmony during and after my exploring inside the Cathedral.
It is really special for me to have this opportunity to travel around England getting to know a bit more and more about English history with every visit.
Is amazing for me to put my feet in these remarkable places.
I am a great believer that I want to explore the land where I am interested to go through the broad.
D. P.
Beautiful Cathedral in my home City. One of my favourite places to be.
This isn't my first visit but on this occasion I went to sign the book of condolences in memory of our late Queen Elizabeth.
I was present for a short service and lit a candle.
The atmosphere was so serene & peaceful . I hope others will take away the same lasting memory as I have following this visit.
R. B.
Beautiful.stunning cathedral need to go back to do tour around the upper part as you have book online so beware but we'll worth a visit
J. W.
This wonderful atmospheric building is a superb place to visit. It's now even more visitor friendly with improved catering and restful gardens. As member of Lincoln Choral Society for over 10 years it has been my privelidge and joy to sing there regularly in concerts. It is ALWAYS awe inspiring and special!
C. B.
Visited for the first time during the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth 2. Signed the Condolence book. Wandered around. Most impressive building. Magnificent interior and exterior. Visited the shop and the cafe. Excellent!
m. p.
Absolutely amazing,what a building.
Had to pay £9 to see it all,but it was worth it.
Stained glass windows gave the inside a kaleidoscope of colour when the sun shone through.
We took a ride on the horse drawn carriage outside and was amazed by the facts provided by our driver. He was very knowledgeable and witty and made the visit so much better.
t. ..
Beautiful inside but at £ 9.00 per person it's expensive to get in. We went for a coffee then had a look round. All together wa in their for about an hour then came out. Saw lots of donation pay points while going round as if paying to get in wasn't enough money off you. Times are hard at the moment so for me prices should reflect that and be lowered so that its accessible to everyone.
S. “. O. K.
She's looking gorgeous as usual in the evening sun.
M. S.
The building is amazing and the tour (our guide, Simon, was very knowledgeable and made sure we knew the historical background of what we were looking at) was fantastic. The food at the restaurant was plentiful and tasty
M. C.
A beautiful cathedral full of history and fabulous architecture. Services are held daily as well as being able to visit and explore this incredible structure. It's £5 approx to visit. A small price for so much or get a ticket to include the castle. It's at the top of steep hill which lives up to its name!
R. M.
We experienced the roof top tour and our guide, Nigel made this a very enjoyable few hours. The cathedral itself is well worth a visit for its size, scale and magnificence.
C. B.
I love visiting historical places and Lincoln Cathedral is one of my favourites. I think the south facing Rose Window is just stunningly beautiful, particularly on a sunny day with the light streaming in. And the architecture of the cathedral in general is awe inspiring. You can feel the history of the building surrounding you as you walk around. I can also recommend the new coffee shop, which has some tasty cakes on offer as well as very good coffee. I had a decaffeinated latte made with oatmilk, which was very nicely made. All in all a lovely place to visit.
L. G.
Lovely cathedral.. Surprised how big it was. Amazing architecture. Being a builder I can't underestimate the skill they had in those times and how did they mange to build it
S. R.
Amazing place, cleam and nicely maintained.
J. C.
Spendid building to visit. Treated to the West front without scaffolding, told it was the first time for many years.
Well worth joining one of the guided walks around the Cathedral. So much history embedded.
T. W.
Beautiful, and very big. Absolutely worth a visit. We didn't do a guided tour, just walked around on our own, taking lots of photos.
P. M.
Stunning building from every angle. Beautifully presented, archives really interesting (for all ages). Coffee shop excellent in lovely surroundings.
J. Y.
A very beautiful Cathedral
And very large.. there is a charge to get in but worth it.
M. R.
One of England's 42 cathedrals and it is a stunning example in a beautiful historic city. Well worth a visit.
J. M.
Great Cathedral..really large ..you can go inside but have to pay if you want to have a walk round..guided tours at set times...well worth it
Walk from the cathedral across the courtyard and the castle is a few hundred yards away..another great place to look round.
D. C.
Awesome, lovely peaceful visit. Stained glass windows are amazing and the choral area is incredible, the wood carving is immaculate
C. P.
Was there for the Memorial service for Her Majesty The Queen. The venue is spectacular and the service was very moving. The choir were fantastic to listen too.
T. T.
Wonderful...enormous medieval cathedral, set on high ground dominating the city..the three towers are visible from miles around ..found the smart new visitor centre on North side. Well worth a visit
N. J.
The Graffiti Tour of the Catherdral is excellent. Christine, our gide was lovely and very knowledgeable.. Recommend the tour for adults and children alike. You are given torches to search for graffiti yourself, but ably guided by Christine. I'll never look at a cathedral in the same way again.
L. C.
It's a vast cathedral. Sadly we couldn't see all of the cathedral as there was a graduation ceremony taking place in the nave. Cafe was excellent.
J. B.
Happy day, our daughters graduation. Cannot get a better graduation. Its wonderful inside and out. Worth a visit
B. W.
Four stars because of the charge to enter God's House. Attended mass and evensong on several occasions. Friendly vergers and clergy and an excellent choir. Herbert Howell's "Col. Reg." sublime.
L. C.
Absolutely gorgeous building well worth a visit.
M. T.
Even for the non religious of people this building and the surrounding area have lot of interesting facts and spectacular views to offer. At night the place offers a different perspective well illuminated around the whole building. The inside offers some beautiful examples of architecture and stained glass windows. Defiantly a worthy visit for the family and guided tour, at set times there are also tours of the towers is you have a head for heights.
L. N.
Absolutely stunning in architecture and atmosphere. Worth every step of the climb up to it. Coffe shops all around!
J. S.
We had a short stay in Lincoln and had a walk around the cathedral the first night we were there. This building is a monumental statement to Lincoln city. I am not a religious man but this building stopped me dead in my tracks if you in the area you must tack time to check it out.
p. c.
What a gem.
Loved it.
Staff friendly.
But I felt it was expensive to go on a tour.
So worth seeing, not sure guided tour required.
I. w.
Bit pricey for entry into the cathedral. £9.00. Free parking nearby. Thank you Lincoln for not being like Durham where you can't park within 2 miles of the city without paying.
V. A. M.
Beautiful Cathedral , night view is awesome ❤️
M. W.
Fantastic place it says it cost £16.000 a day to run this place .no wounder there's no money about and have not got a clue what they spend the money on .it could be all them gold goblets in the treasure room . Cus there is nothing else they could spend that on
G. R.
Really lovely place to visit, amazing stain glass windows, beautiful stone work and architecture. Even though there were no tours due to covid a lovely member of staff showed us things we would never have seen without her help. We really want to return to do the graffiti tour
H. E.
A must visit landmark in Lincoln, unfortunately I went on the 31st of July 2020 and the cathedral was only open for private prayers as restoration works are in place. The cathedral is mesmerising from the outside, you might take about an hour to admire all its details just from the outside.
C. V. d. w.
I've visited the cathedral before during the day and it was lovely inside and it's very big, recently I visited again at night and it was beautiful and I loved the photos I got. The building is so lovely and I definitely recommend checking it out.
R. B.
Lovely Cathedral located in the old part of the city. Great history to the building and excellent guided tours.
R. S.
Very enjoyable. Well looked after. Good atmosphere.
M. M.
Very beautiful, historic cathedral. You could wander around for hours but we spent about 1 hour walking through at a sedate pace. I loved the stained glass windows, some dating from the 1200s.
M. S.
Beautiful prayerful place. Full of tributes to HM Queen Elizabeth and a sense of calm among the many visitors.
N. R.
Really beautiful place!
A must visit when in lincoln
M. S.
Our absolute favourite cathedral. A must to visit at any time. Visited to watch a concert. Queen by Candlelight.
G. M.
Stunning place of worship. Just sit ,take a few moments, and leave the world outside the doors of this wonderful example of Norman architecture.
J. D.
Absolutely suberb Cathedral, and plenty of walk's around the area, can be a bit hilly, but not around Cathedral, car parking a bit of a rip off if you want to park for an hour after 6 it's £4 all night near to the castle but they won't let you park for 1hour for £1.95 they charge a minimum of £4 even if you only stay for a short while.
G. L.
Majestic! Makes you feel good when inside. Has a positive energy. Worth visit and plenty of pubs around it too.
L. W.
A stunning Cathedral both inside and out, with a calm atmosphere, in between graduation ceremonies anyway! Warm welcoming staff.
C. K.
We have always loved Lincoln Cathedral and it is a special place for our family. However last night for the first time we participated in the YMCA Big Sleep Easy, raising awareness and funds for homelessness. What we weren't aware of is that the cathedral always host this and host it they did! We slept outside last night in the cloisters and they really looked after us and the view was stunning
s. p.
Lovely cathedral, one of the best! Lovely clean toilets, excellent cafe/ restaurant and nice.little gift shop.
R. J.
Definitely worth to visit it
E. p.
Its a nice building from the outside with good scenery, however the admission fee is a bit pricey hence only 4/5
T. S.
Incredible visit with awe-inspiring beauty and history, especially for those with military connections to the area. The staff are friendly. The place is immaculate. And you'll find yourself lost in time as you wander around and learn all the historical details this cathedral holds within its walls.
C. C.
Its such a beautiful building that sgand in the heart of Lincoln near the castle and the Great surrou ding area. It can be seen from all over the city and is nicely lit at night.
D. D.
Fantastic historic architecture in a beautiful old city. Lincoln cathedral and the old city are less busy than some other historic areas in Britain, but no less beautiful.
E. G.
Fantastic Cathedral.
£15 to get in was not value though. Special event was on though, still not right though for me.
Should be a voluntary donation in my opinion.
S. T.
Amazing building to have a wander around. Some of the architecture is breathtaking and the attention to detail in every area of the cathedral is stunning.
I'm not religious but the fact that this is a place of worship is not what is the reason for viewing such a structure.
Highly recommend!
L. O. L.
One of the wonders of the Medieval England, absolutely magnificent. So stunning architecture. The stained glass windows they take your breath away they are so beautiful. The history of this building is so interesting. There is a lovely little cafe for refreshments and a cute little gift shop. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I can't stress enough how beautiful this cathedral is. If you have never been I highly recommend you do.
M. M.
First class cathedral for an important historic city. This imposing near 1000 year old structure dominates the city from its high setting. Interesting interior, with friendly staff on hand to help. Dual tickets that cover a visit to next door castle are available as well. Nice cafe too. Highly recommended.
A. S.
It’s a very historical church and it’s has a very beautiful architecture with the Gothic Style. It’s huge and amazing!! It was built on 1072. They are doing renovation on the front side. It’s walk by from Lincoln Castle, you can see it from Lincoln Castle. So when you visit Lincoln Cathedral, Don’t miss the castle! If you love architecture and the history, I think you will need one day to enjoy both places! And one more thing, you can enjoy and relax as there are so many cafe or restaurant. Happy Holiday in Lincolnshire ;)
A. S.
Absolutely beautiful piece of history. A must visit place if you are ever in Lincoln. The building stands strong for over 950 years. Souvenirs shops, you can take a tour inside or walk outside to enjoy the architecture. Very well recommended.
K. H.
Absolutely beautiful.
I loved the fact you had a children's leaflet as well as the adult's one, it really helped my kids enjoy the experience more. We ticked each one off the list whilst my eldest read out each piece from the fact sheet. We really enjoyed our visit, even though the stage was being set up in the nave.
J. K.
Incredible piece of gothic architecture, well worth spending time to take it all in. My next visit will be all day.
a. b.
We felt intimidated by the building my wife who is a big church goer did not feel welcomed by the building
Our only reason to go was she wanted to visit but when we arrived she felt like she did not want to get out of the car and visit
It is an impressive sight
S. M.
Great place to go. Not too far from Nottingham. You can see it from a long distance when driving towards Lincoln. ⛪ To see more photos please visit my Instagram page @scottstravelphotos
A. B.
Went to see the cathedral over Easter... I did enjoy the Easter lighting, as it put me in mind of a KitKat Easter egg. Just as Jesus would have wanted.
J. R.
A beautiful cathedral that is a must visit. Very popular for anyone interested history. The refractory does really good food (we had the Christmas Dinner Bap) and finding the Lincoln Imp is a must!
M. P.
So much history and recommend taking the tour, which lasts around 75mins. A beautiful cathedral.
c. k.
Great place for tourists and locals alike. Lots to see and looks beautiful when lit up at night. Sat and watched Lincoln Mystery Plays perform, excellent. There's a lot of renovations going on at the moment, but doesn't take away the enjoyment of walking around and taking in the architecture. What a beautiful building.
N. H. A.
Lincoln Cathedral, Lincoln Minster, or the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln and sometimes St Mary's Cathedral, in Lincoln, England, is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Lincoln. Construction commenced in 1072 and continued in several phases throughout the High Middle Ages. Like many of the medieval cathedrals of England it was built in the Early Gothic style.
P. B.
This is an amazing place! Take time to explore. The interactive space at the end next to the gift shop is a must!
R. S.
Stunning, beautiful cathedral in a strategic location at the top of Steep Hill, next to the castle and dominating the area for miles.
A.
My first visit today. Its free entry on a Sunday despite the boards still out saying you need to pay. I'm an atheist myself so this was purely a historic building/architectural visit for me. It's very impressive inside. Nice stained glass windows. I would visit again but only on a Sunday
J. C.
Amazing historic cathedral. Fantastic architecture, stain glass windows and surroundings. Even with restoration going on, well worth a visit. Lovely to hear the bells whilst the evening draws in.
G. T. P.
Lovely destination for the historical craft work
M. E.
A spectacular day viewing the height of architecture and being educated about the history of the cathedral. The lady in the shop was very knowledgeable and a very friendly and helpful woman. I applaud the staff who help make this a memorable day.Thank you!
P. W.
Great to visit but more could be done to enhance the visitor experience to understand the full history of the place
G. P.
This cathedral and its surroundings are beautiful, the cathedral is huge and there is som many things to see around.
The entrance is not free but it's definitely worth a visit, you can also buy combined tickets for several historic places.
The cathedral is very well located and there is plenty of paid car parks very close.
C. L. (. L.
What a stunning place! We visited this weekend and were lucky enough to visit during choir practice! From the minute you enter you are overwhelmed by the architecture . The beauty of the sound of the choir is angelic and something I have never experienced before and was so thankful we had the pleasure to be there at this time. If visiting Lincoln I would recommend visiting highly, and by doing so supporting an amazing example of architecture and history.
R. B.
Amazing historic location to visit when in Lincoln. Fascinating to see how creative and talented people were back in the days. Would suggest watching a video about Lincoln cathedral before going since it has three parts to the different architecture and era.
Z. M.
I have been to this cathedral twice in the past three weeks and it is honestly worth going back. The first time I went I decided to go on the roof tour (which is worth even more than the £5 it costs) and you are able to go up through the 11th century towers up to the bell tower, along the supports of the roof itself, and into the gutters to look out into London. The second day I went was a Saturday around 12pm and we got to hear the organ playing fill up the cathedral. It is completely stunning.
P. W.
What an absolutely stunning building. I would strongly recommend going on the tour. We paid £46 for a family ticket that includes the castle aswell. Parts of the cathedral are under renovation but that is mostly outside. Once inside.... WOW what a breathtaking spectacle this magnificent place is. David was our tour guide and what a vey goid guide he was. So interesting to listen to and never once did it get mundane. The history of the cathedral is awe inspiring and quite daunting when you hear what went on right where you are standing. I would also recommend the bus tour at £10 an adult with children free. A great visit and so glad we went. Very interesting and thought prevoking in every way
M. G.
Love visiting Lincoln. The beauty of its Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. Pavements still untouched in a Victorian era. Shops similar to Carnaby Street in London. The local people are very friendly and cheerful. Since my last visit in 2017 a lot of things have changed. New shopping malls and cafes are fabulous.
R.
It's a big and beautiful cathedral located in a beautiful place. It's a shame there is working happening on the building, however completely understandable why it's being done. Definitely worth a visit. Lots of history inside and always fun to spot the falcon and the imp.
D. G. W.
Beautiful historic Cathedral. Stone face recently cleaned and restored. Well worth a visit.
A. G.
Had a 1 hour tour conducted by David. Great experience! We were on a football tour in the area and he showed our team around the cathedral. Really interesting facts and loads to see here. Would really recommend. We didn't go up into the towers but having done the ground tour, I would definitely go again and go higher if in the Lincoln area.
N. N. J.
Nice Cathedral. Just as others you might have seen. Path to cathedral is nice little high street up the hill. The castle just on the other side.
M. S.
Loved this view from my drone
C. V. M.
A truly magnificent building - you could easily spend hours immersed in the art amd architecture. The library is also stunning (although I was only able to visit that part of the building as part of a university-run event). If you're looking for something more organised, the tour guides are superb. Plus your ticket is valid for repeat visits for the rest of the year.
M. H.
Heather, our guide, increased the enjoyment of the floor tour. We did not do the roof tour.
M. R.
Just about THE best example of medieval architecture this country has to offer. Given its hilltop (and occasionally strategically important) location it can be seen from dozens of miles away. Inside the scale and detail is simply breath-taking. There are hidden away chapels including a beautiful one to Navy, Army and Air Force personnel lost in battle, Lincolnshire was home to very many airfields in World War 2. Easily worth the climb up the hill. Enjoy and spend at least a couple of hours soaking up all of the history.
D. J.
Very impressive cathedral, beautiful inside and out. Definitely worth a look.
C. D.
Beautiful place, I just can't complain when the architecture is that stunning.
B. C.
I love it, will always love it! Today I was just walking around it but I've visited inside, I've done the tour ... you name it!
M. C.
An imposing building standing proudly over Lincoln, which can be seen miles away. Its an interesting walk up steep hill to reach it, from the city centre. Some restoration work is in hand with barriers and scaffolding around the building. Well worth visiting though. Once inside, see if you can find the Lincoln Imp.
T. P.
One of the most amazing places I've ever set foot in! I lived in Lincoln for six months and never did more than walk around the outside of the cathedral. Years later my wife and I visited Lincoln and decided to go inside. It is so beautiful and awe-inspiring--you will not regret visiting!
I. A.
One of the most stunning cathedrals in the country!
Beautiful glass, stone carving and breathtaking architecture. There are some incredible side chapels packed with art and all sorts of tiny hidden secrets and history here
Well worth a visit if you're in Lincoln! The staff are all lovely and will tell you all they can if you're keen to learn more about the building
S. E.
Nice place to visit, if you can get up the hill. Suitable for disabled visitors to get around.
T. R.
Beautiful Cathedral in a stunning setting. Even found the infamous Imp in the end.
I. S.
Cathedral has opened doors to see the huge amazing Moon hanging inside, actual 1:5000,000 .
S. L.
Visited Lincoln Cathedral 30 Dec 2019. One of England's finest whether seen lit up at night or bathed in winter sunshine. High on a hill, it dominates the landscape. Paid £8 for an adult ticket. Paid an extra £5 to do a roof tour which lasted an hour and a half and provided great views over the city and castle which stands opposite. Look out for the Lincoln Imp at the Eastern end of the cathedral, close to the tomb of Eleanor of Castile (Edward I's queen) as well as the tomb of Kathryn Swynford (wife of John of Gaunt, son of Edward III). There is a tower tour which is only available on Saturdays and bank Holidays and if you gift aid your entry price you get free entry for a year. Allow a couple of hours to fully appreciate the architecture both inside and out.
B. C.
Stained glass windows are beautiful and the area to light candles for those passed and present is nicely set aside. Don't think I saw it at it's best as there was scaffolding everywhere at the moment but renovating has to be done at some point. Cafe looked a nice place and food also looked appealing . Exhibition area was interesting.
M. C.
Beautiful and family friendly. Clean and modern toilets and baby changing facilities. As well as the beautiful cathedral, the discovery centre is a great resource for families, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Plenty for all ages, good mix of information and practical activities. My 6-year-old and 1-year-old both loved it, especially building the 3D imp and building the Norman and gothic arches. There is also a comfortable chair and sofa which I found useful for breastfeeding.
n. l.
Gorgeous cathedral, a lovely place for thought and reflection as well admiring the architecture of the building itself.
F.
Lovely and quiet, entrance is free but guided tours are available
C. W.
One of the biggest cathedrals I have been to, lots to see and learn - many different rooms and corridors to walk through with a lot of information about its history.
J. W.
Been to a few cathedrals in Liverpool chester and Truro the only 1 to charge entry 10 pound for adults 7£20 for pensioners
K. S.
Beautiful Cathedral. There was some preservation work going on but didn't detract from out visit. Amazing ope hall with lots of small areas to explore with carvings, woodwork and paintings. Small cafe was good with hot drinks, cakes and sandwiches
i. M.
Absolutely must see if you come to Lincolnshire for a visit. You have to pay to explore but well worth it!
B. H.
Lovely cathedral, lots of history, well worth a visit
C. R.
The new cafe, exhibition and teaching spaces are fantastic, and staff so welcoming and insightful.
f.
Fabulous installation with the moon! Just a beautiful space to be in - well worth the entrance fee to see this beautiful building
D. C.
Fabulous place to visit,Just gutted we couldn't do the tour due to restrictions.
K. H.
A terrific day out at Lincoln Cathedral. The ‘moon’ installation was so good.
L. R.
It's a lovely place to visit plus the surrounding area as there is lots ot see for the whole family extra special at this time of the year
T. C.
If you like York you'll love Lincoln. Fab history. Great cathedral. Nice oldy worldly feel to it. Well recommended.
W. C.
Absolutely beautiful place 🤩 Amazing sunsets. Must go
N. G.
Had experience visit top tower tour last week with great team. Highly recommended
G. G.
Great historical structure that once housed the Magna Carta. Visitors won't be disappointed seeing a Cathedral / Castle built over nine centuries ago that is still standing. Beautiful stained glass windows, marble carved tombs, and awe-inspiring spires that is incredible to look at considering this place was built during a time when people couldn't figure out indoor plumbing. Once you're done at the Cathedral, take a walk to one of the many restaurants or shops within walking distance. A great way to spend the afternoon at historical place outside of London.
L. J.
Lincoln Cathedral is I stunning place to visit with beautiful architecture & statues & will approximately take an hour to go around
S. H.
Beautiful cathedral. Free guides are available to take you round after you've paid entrance fee. Not cheap, but if these attractions interest you then you can spend a good couple of hours here
S. F.
Beautiful cathedral with some of the finest architecture you'll find anywhere in the world.
c. c.
Enjoyed our visit to the Cathedral, the stained glass windows are lovely. There is also a shop and cafe. Worth a visit while in Lincoln, and it's close to the castle.
M.
Very well preserved inside and out. Highly recommend the audio tour guide. The moon art work on display.
D. M.
Lincoln, and it's cathedral, is a place I've longed to visit for many years, and finally got the chance to do just that a month ago ...it was worth the wait. I've seen many of our country's great cathedrals on my travels around the UK, but Lincoln cathedral, perched high on the hill, is perhaps the most impressive.
I'm not a deeply religious person, or cultural person, but for me, the appeal of cathedrals, are their size, associated historic significance, but more importantly their structural & architectural design. This was not only the worlds tallest at the time, but one of best examples of Gothic styling I've ever seen, with an incredible amount of features & intricate detail. The scale of this cathedral truly is vast, so you can appreciate how it must've really pushed the limits of what was possible from an engineering & building perspective. Like many others, it makes use of massive, intertwining arches for support, but here you'll notice it's been used to the extreme, they are everywhere, giving it massive structural strength.
As you'll see from my photos, as is often the case with important buildings of this age, there is currently ongoing restoration work being carried out. This means there are some large areas obscured from view by scaffolding, and what appeared to be some archeological works going on within the grounds. Just something to bear in mind, but not enough to spoil it's enjoyment.
Of those I've been to, I would say Salisbury cathedral is perhaps still my favourite, with it's beautiful grounds & surroundings, but Lincoln is without the most impressive on so many levels.
So why 4, not 5 stars?
Obviously this rating has nothing to do with the cathedral itself, or the fact that it's undergoing works, which partially cover some of the building, as these are very much needed. No, it's because whilst I appreciate the massive maintenance cost involved for such a large historic building, it is also part of our national heritage, and as such should be made as accessible as possible, so that everyone can have a chance to appreciate it's beauty & history. Unfortunately, I thought the admittance charges were rather high, and ultimately preventing many people, including myself (mainly as I didn't have enough time left to make it worthwhile) from being able to admire & appreciate it, beyond the external building itself, shame.
From a business perspective, it's an historic attraction, so surely lowering the prices would attract significantly more visitors, and increase it's overall admission takings, and associated souvenir sales, and yet requires no more staff or costs to implement, other than leaflet/poster printing.
C. L.
Beautiful place , it ouzes history
A. T.
Stunning cathedral and old part of the city. The cathedral staff were very friendly and we were even able to take our dog on with us :)
T. E.
A lovely looking cathedral from the outside, we didn't have enough time to make it worth paying to enter, but the cafe is lovely and the exterior is incredible, so one can only hope the inside is equally impressive.
P. S.
A great experience for anyone wanting to feel a connection with a superb Norman Cathedral.
D. B.
Didn't actually go inside (didn't have time, working) but the exterior of the cathedral is magnificent, will definitely go back and spend more time there when im not working
A. V. S.
Words cannot describe how beautiful this cathedral is inside and out. I was awe struck by the architecture and the stained and painted glass art. Amazing
T. W.
Likely the biggest draw of Lincoln the cathedral is absolutely stunning and awe inspiring, unfortunately there's always a lot of refurbishment works surrounding the grounds and the walls.
It has a little café inside the grounds and it's very nice, if you're wandering around the cathedral it's definitely worth a drop in too.
M.
Great day out and a great day having a tour around the cathedral and a lunch in the town square, we even had a trip around the cathedral in a horse and cart
L. J.
We didn't get to see inside of the Cathedral but that didn't matter, we will be back to see the inside another day. An absolutely beautiful building.
O. N.
Lincoln Cathedral is full of history and architectural wonders. Children above 9-10 y.o. or adults will find it interesting and worthwhile. Incredible lighting of the walls on a sunny day because of stained glass windows.
c. f.
Wonderful and innovative guided walk through amazing building.
R. M.
Well worth a visit, the architecture is amazing, lots of recent restoration
S. G.
Larger cathedral with a tour Inc in the price. Tour guide very friendly and informative. Toilet facilities were clean and tidy. On site cafe severed a good selection of sandwiches and hot home cooked food. Portions were a good size and very nice. Worth a visit but you will need 3 hours at least to see it all.
P. B.
The stained glass is beautifull. You no longer need cash to leave a donation, the have handy card machines dotted around. We'll worth a visit.
B.
Went in Lincoln Catherdal and it so amazing!
D. F.
Not the biggest cathedral, but still beautiful. £5 entrance fee gives you a free guidance sheet and a candle to light at one of the many worship points. Because of C-19, most of the seating has been removed but for those who wish to spend some time in quiet thought/prayer, there's some socially distanced seats available near the alter. Would return if in the area
C. M.
This place even from the outside is amazing it brings you in the way the garden is just entises you to stay and enjoy the surrounding unfortunately there was construction work so the pictures aren't too great but I am sure it will keep its amazing athstedic after repairs
C. C.
Lovely to look around. Helpful sheet with brief information provided. Unfortunately we couldn't see the whole cathedral due to renovations but entrance charge reduced accordingly. Staff welcoming. Dog friendly.
P. V.
Simply stunning. A classical example of traditional cathedral architecture. The pictures speak for themselves. Surely a main attraction in Lincoln!
M. N.
Just simply majestic - no photos can capture the feeling of actually being there.
a. T.
Amazing unbelievable moment of adventure... As nomadic travellers head to Scotland !
R. M.
Lincoln Cathedral is obviously steeped in history and combined with a trip to the Magna Carta vault in the castle is an opportunity to look 800 years of history in the face. Couple this with the Roof tour, as we did, and history buffs and engineers are in their element. See behind the scenes, how the rib are constructed. Walk among 900 year old oak timbers and enjoy stunning views over Lincoln near and far.
A. N.
It's incredible when you think it was built a thousand years ago. Absolutely astonishing and breathtaking. The most beautiful architectural masterpiece in Midlands.
D. H.
Amazing building. Saw a Queen concert there. Awesome.
A. W.
Tranquillity and magnificence, in harmony with the gift of mankind's ability to create a tribute to God. To sit in silence and marvel at this truly magnificent cathedral, is a gift for the soul and an inspiration for the heart. We were in awe, at this most wonderous gift of the people of Lincoln, to be honoured to share there work, skills and creative talents, of such artisans was a moment to remain forever, in our hearts and souls. Thank you, thank you. We were privalged and inspired by the experience of sharing God's house with us mere mortals. I see you. Bee & Alan
K. B.
Well worth getting the combination ticket with Lincoln Castle & you do need a whole day although your ticket is valid for another visit. The free tour is worth taking.
D. S.
Magnificent place, of course. One of the largest cathedrals in the UK.
H. y. s. h. ?.
Beautiful cathedral amazing talent and skill they had over 1000 years ago, a must visit place
P. S.
Still got scaffolding around part of the building, it's been that way for years now. If you're visiting for photos then just be aware of that.
A. K.
The sculptures are exceptional around the pillars.
The last judgement frieze on the west front is incredible.
A. C.
Worth the visit. Nice to wander about, especially on a rainy day. Look for the little imp - he's very hidden and very high up! If you're a student, I'd recommend going at 4:30, when it's donations only (saying that, if you are not strapped for cash, please pay the entrance fee! It's how they fund conservation work!)
A. W.
very impressive cathedral on a hill, the surrounding area is also very old, £5 for an adult to look round if your into that thing.
D. A.
Impressive from the outside. Didn't go inside as you have to pay and we were four. Besides the money goes to fund the renovation. Anyway, just a personal thing. A great cathedral without any doubt and a must if you are in Lincoln.
W. A.
The tour lady was such a sweetheart. Answered all my questions with an open heart. I would recommend booking the tour as it had revealed many impressive details and history that my oblivious self would never uncover!
B. C.
Stunning Cathedral and a lovely piece of history. Shame there was some maintenance taking place during our visit, but glad to see its being looked after.
A. M.
Amazing monument
S. M.
had a good day visiting the cathedral and can highly recommend, there is plenty to see and do while your there, good gift shop if you like that sort of thing, parking is ok but do your homework first i picked the one at the bottom of the hill, your near the castle so worth a visit, highly recommended if your visiting the Lincoln area.
L. K.
Beautiful place, recommend the roof top tour! If your not afraid of heights! Very knowledge guide
P. M.
Only had time to see the exterior on this visit. How impressive! And a friendly warning, the streets around are steep!
M. A.
The best cathedral visit we have done. What a structure! What a history! See it before you get too old to climb the one in three hill up to the top to get there!!
M. B.
Amazing cathedral located at the top of Steep Hill near to Lincoln Castle. You can go in the cathedral for free but have to pay extra to go further inside than the first part, past the reception desk.
R. C.
Amazing place to visit. Architecture fantastic. Lovely and cool on a hot day. Dog friendly.
A. C.
Absolutely stunning place.
j. f.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit...such a peaceful place & so much history !
K. O.
Fabulous building! I'm not at all religious, but who can fail to be impressed by this? And its over 900 years old
E. P.
Great experience going to the top of the cathedral. Informative and a couple of entertaining guides. Well with it!
K. T.
Absolutely stunning building well worth a visit
s. w.
Interesting place, nice to wander around, couple of tombs worth a look. The cloisters are relaxing, and the café good for refueling.
L. A.
I have visited as a tourist however this time I was there for my daughters graduation. This is a beautiful place to visit and would recommend the tour.
J. R.
Amazing, We went to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Great value for the money, A Fantastic Production, Only one problem cramped seating, Thanks to all involved.
N. K.
A beautiful place to visit , either in the day or evening. Both inside an out
D.
Amazing interior! There is a lot to see, they do concerts there too sometimes which I imagine would sound included!
T. E.
Amazing. Stunning Architecture, interesting heritage and great walk around the grounds.
M. B.
Stunningly beautiful. It's a majestic building surrounded by old buildings such as The Bishop's Palace. Plenty of unique shops and the castle nearby too. A well worth visit.
S. G.
Great to see the restoration work
N. W.
As good as any cathedral I've visited, we got a joint ticket with Lincoln Castle although difficult to do both in one day, both need virtually a full day, but will worth doing as there was a significant saving doing it this way. The cathedral ticket is valid for 3 months so we left it in the holiday cottage we rented (Flo's Cottage) just round the corner.
W. G.
Beautiful facade but not worth the price of entry. Do try the café though, excellent jacket potato.
E. L. F.
Amazing place! The guided tour was really useful. We had a lot of information about the Cathedral. If you want to visit Lincoln and the Cathedral ask for a guided tour. It really helps.
B. D.
Always interesting, welcoming and gives confidence that such a beautiful structure still looks so good after almost a millennium.
G. M.
Magnificent structure, well run and maintained a must see when in Lincoln.
A. H.
A beautiful cathedral with an incredible position on top of a hill. The walk up Steep Hill takes you past some most interesting little shops and restaurants.
A. P.
What a wonderful Cathedral!!
We also had the Ground Floor Tour, sadly the name of the guide alludes me, but he really was excellent 👏👏👏👏👍🤗
P. B.
Beautiful building and I was lucky enough to visit during the flower festival. Amazing.!!
c.
My first visit in any cathedral, very in awe of the building age and volunteers information.
Well worth the visit.
c.
Stunning building, lots of history and very interesting to learn about. Shame there’s a lot of scaffolding at the moment, but it won’t affect your experience. Overall extremely well kept and breathtaking to look at.
D. C.
Well worth a visit the building is stunning inside, towns just a short walk away but does get busy. The castle is just opposite the Cathedral so you can visit both.
l. w.
A beautiful place to visit, regardless of age or religion. We took our 3 children of ages 11, 6 and 3, and all were able to enjoy the experience. All of us were moved by the wonderfully spiritual feel within the cathedral, and amazing architecture. Only point I would make would maybe to increase the choice of food available within the cafe and a rethink of some lower cost choices thereby helping re-fuel hungry bellies to allow for a longer and more pleasurable experience! Also the friendliness and knowledge of the gentleman within the library when we visited was excellent. They provided a real eye opener to the history prompting us to look into it further when we got home, and even had my 11 year old enthrawled!
L. B.
Amazing! It's worth visiting, especially inside. You won't regret it.
S. H.
Amazing place. Would highly recommend a visit. £8.00 adults entry. For £17.50 you can get a combined ticket and visit Lincoln castle.
J. B.
Always a treat to visit this amazing building.
It is worth remembering if you Gift Aid (at no extra cost to you) you can gain free entry for one year from your initial visit! That gets a big tick from me!
Stunning architecture and don't forget to look for that mischievous Lincoln Imp!
The Cloisters cafe serves lovely food at a very reasonable price, nice coffee too!
Take time to just sit and enjoy the peace whilst you gaze and wonder at your surroundings.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
b. c.
Great visit to Lincoln and especially the cathedral £5 entrance and tour if your in a group of six well worth a visit
E. F.
Lovely lady took us on a very good tour. Showed us a great deal
J. m.
Beautiful Cathedral with lots of historic information.
A must do when your in the city.
M. D.
Lots of work put in to making the place as safe as it's possible to be right now which was very reassuring to see. Only downside was banning singing, which was understandable but rather disappointing
F. T.
The cathedral is an awe-inspiring sight. Huge and imposing from the outside. Inside it's a hugely impressive space. The symmetry of the columns and the vaulted ceilings create a truly gracious, yet overawing, space.
Within this space are carvings and details and small chapels that are intimate and delicate. I'm not religious but this building is still a wonderful and inspiring place.
S. H.
A beautiful Cathedral, steeped in history. It's well worth the entrance fee to spend an afternoon taking it all in.
M.
WOW 🤓 A-M-A-Z-I-N-G 🙏🙏 cathedral
W. M.
Probably the best cathedral we been to, went back for evensong and enjoyed the guest choir.
A. R.
Stunning place visit. When we went there was some building work going on but it doesn't take away the beauty of the cathedral just a short walk from the castle and steep hill which is great challenge.
N. J. W.
A good day out if you buy a combined ticket and visit the castle and cathedral. One of the best cathedrals in Britain.
J. B.
What a stunning place, the cafe was top, the staff in the cathedral really helpful and friendly.
A. B.
Amazing space with helpful staff. Cafe let it down. Waited nearly 40 minutes for a cup of tea.
S. D.
Lincoln cathedral is just stunning, always makes me go wow, beautiful evening looking at the moon,
M. C.
Fantastic to see the Moon exhibition in the Cathedral. Had lunch in the cafe too which was very nice indeed. A must visit if you’re in the area. One of the most stunning buildings in the whole world.
c. j.
Stunning Cathedral steeped in history and very atmospheric well worth a visit
G. G.
The Cathedral is open. Following covid guidelines. No cafe. Plenty of sanitiser etc.
H. A. T.
Stunning architecture and the stained glass is beautiful. Unfortunately due to ongoing building care and conservation we could only see half of it, but they adjusted prices accordingly and it's well worth the money and time spent
R. B.
Truly stunning!
k. s.
Went as a family to see the moon display. Well worth the money as you get to see the majority of the Cathedral. The cafe was a bit pricey and we only had drinks. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room in the cafe as it was lunchtime but we sat on the window sills in the corridor. A good couple of hours to look round. Very impressed with the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force's Chapels within the Cathedral itself.
K. B.
What a construction. Pricing wasn't clear. Some signed asking for a £5 DONATION but in entry we were expected to pay £5 each entry. We didn't mind this as we enjoyed the experience but seems a bit misleading.
a.
A beautiful spacious cathedral, with some stunning architecture. We visited during the Christmas market and were made to feel very welcome, we even made christingles.
C. S.
Lincoln is a nice place to visit. The Cathedral from outside is amazing well worth the wait up the hill!!
T. S.
Loved it.
M. T.
Beautiful cathedral. Different cellars in every part. Grade I building. Windows is very nice. Organ with good sound...
N. P.
Beautiful cathedral to visit the architecture of it is awe inspiring and the alters to the tri forces of the British Army was amazing I payed my respects to my brothers and sisters who serve with me.
S. s.
So much to see, relaxed environment. Such beautiful detail and so vast, I want to return soon. Children really enjoyed it too.
K. G.
Beautiful architecture well worth a visit if your' visiting Lincoln.
M. C.
A stunning building. Loved the forces chapels. Just a shame we didn't have enough time to look around more
G. E.
An amazing architecture best appreciated by going on one of the very informative guided tours, which provides real insight into the history.
T. S.
What an amazing building, my family and friends went on the roof top tour, so interesting to see the building behind the scenes, so as to speak. The guide was excellent and gave a good account of the history of the cathedral from building of the various phases to the present day, I find it amazing that people were able to build such splendour without the modern tools and equipment we now have. True craftsmanship and skill will always shine out. I fully recommend Lincoln cathedral to anyone with even half an interest in the sphere of life. Brilliant
J. S.
Rode to Lincoln Cathedral to pray at the shrine to S Hugh, despite a service going on to remember the late Queen and the King's accession the Vergers arranged it for us to go to the shrine and pray even in cycling gear. Thankyou.
M. Y.
It’s worth the visit, mesmerised by the craftsmanship that went into this all those years ago.
J. C.
Beautiful Cathedral, so much to see....
A. B.
Stunning building lovingly preserved and equipped with a cafe and shops
K. B.
Amazing cathedral with so much history and character. Built by many unknown craftsman who we owe our credit to.
S. V.
What a magnificent Cathedral! Unfortunately, it's being refurbished, but very lovely to visit!
S.
Lovely cathedral who took almost 300 years to build and at one point, was the tallest building in the world!
a. w.
Great place to visit lots to see and do
s. g.
Amazing masterpiece loved it being there even I don’t fallow that religion I took some amazing photos of this amazing cathedral
A. W.
Where to start, this Cathedral is outstanding. From the approach to Lincoln you can see the Catherdal towering over the sky line.
It's is a pure delight up close. For any historians or technical drawings this is a delight.
4th largest in the UK. But definitely one of my favorites for the Gothic and medieval exterior.
You spend hours here and return at lately date and still find new things.
The stained glass windows are spectacular and even better when the sun lights them up to their glory. Truly spectacular.
It is indeed a crown in the jewel and a must see if your ever in the Lincolnshire area. Or if traveling past as its definitely worth the 15 minute detour off the A1.
Beautifully light up at night as a shining beacon of joy. Truly remarkable ICON.
J. A.
Historic treasure, contains beautiful stained glass windows, amazingly constructed arches and high ceilings, and some amazing art and artifacts. Scenic, peaceful, serene. A chorus was performing during our visit, adding to the spiritual feeling we all experienced.
R.
Absolutely amazing, the architecture is stunning, so much history, just have to see it to believe it,
A. R.
Great day out, amazing architecture and really a hidden gem in the UK
V. G.

A. F.
I went to Choral Evensong on Sunday Afternoon and enjoyed the singing and of course the Organ is Magnificent
B. L. B.
Did a roof top tour, amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Super friendly staff. 👍
K. H.
Never tire of the view around the Lincoln cathedral apart from the west front which always has scaffolding on it . What a view from the southside between the main tower and the 2 westside towers.
Day or night a good 10 to 15 min walk right round the best walk in Lincoln.
C. S.
The most Beautiful building in the World, in my opinion.
G. W.
Lovely big cathedral. Well worth a visit.,if you like this sort of thing.
L. W.
Went to Lincoln for the 10k run. I was watching from the finish line which was close by the Cathedral. Lovely views of the Cathedral quarter. Pictures from the finish line and of the 1st man to finish.
G.
I don't understand how a building can make you feel emotional, but this definitely does
A. S.
Awesome. We did the rooftop tour which was incredibly interesting, helped by our lovely tour guide Penny who shared her wealth of knowledge with warmth and humour to bring the history alive. Definitely recommend
M. M.
Absolutely gorgeous historical architecture. It is a must to visit if you are in the area. Nearly 1000 years old and it still stands there so grand, you feel so tiny when standing in front of it.
Parking our car was a bit a hassle, as there is no parking near. So we found a little parking area at the bottom of little street and then walked up the hill to it. We spent at least min 2 hours there, lots to see and explore, not just inside it, around it and you can even walk on the top of the wall around it. Kids loved it! There was even a little show of dressed up knights fighting with the swords ⚔️. We went in June, so it was a nice and warm day which makes big difference. Highly recommended!
T. _. (.
Lovely part of a lovely city, well worth a visit, but make sure to catch one of the free tours as it adds far more to the visit
T. G.
Grand, full of history and a lovely place to wander and discover
v.
Been to dozens of cathedrals around the world but this one is definitely one of the very best. Words can't describe it. Check if the choir is on, it's a magical experience. A must do for sure.
S. O.
Absolutely beautiful Cathedral.tbe architecture was outstanding!
However, there was a lady in a blue robe I smiled at, she wasn't very welcoming! Being someone of the cloth I was a little taken aback.
A. T.
Ok, so the walk up the 'Steep Hill' is very steep but it's incredibly worth the effort.
It only took around 5-10mins from the bottom and the top hosts both the cathedral, the castle and a selection of lovely old fashioned shops, cafes and pubs.
The cathedral is stunning. It's a huge building with beautiful architecture. The grounds were immaculate and it was lovely walking around it.
Views from around the cathedral are obscured by surrounding buildings but you walk the castle wall for £7. I didn't do the walk but would love to in future.
There are lots of quaint shops well worth a brows on the way up or back down.
T. C.
A very beautiful building, will visit again, so much to see and discover, stunning.
F. W.
Visited the Cathedral for the Christmas Concert - great experience in a beautiful setting!
G. N.
I lived in its vicinity for 50 years and it remains awesome for me. All the cathedrals in this country are unique but Lincoln is special. It can be seen for miles around and lit up at night seems to be floating in the air. The bells are melodic. Inside it has a wealth of beautiful masonry to match the exterior and beautuful stained glass windows.
K. B.
Fantastic place. Really enjoyed the tower walk, spectacular views.
W. O.
A magnificent historical building for worship and reflection. Toilets and cafe available.
B. S.
Lovely historic building! As I write this (Jan 2019) It's being renovated but is still open to the public. At night it's a beautiful sight with the flood lights on.
p. w.
Massive and beautiful, go on a Sunday it was fantastic, was treated to live singing from the service going on at the time.

Outstanding!!!! Our day was truly made when a member of staff took the time to show and explain some of the smaller details on the carvings and stonework!!! Didn't get his name but he was fantastic!!!!!

Striking looking cathedral in the heart of Lincoln.
Well worth a visit and well worth buying the joint entry ticket to the Castle aswell.
Lots of history and beautiful artefacts.
Friendly and knowlegable staff.
Reasonable cafe in the cloisters and clean toilets.
