Reviews of Fashion and Textile Museum

Went to see an exhibition about 60s boutiques and their impact on the counter culture. Some interesting facts but not curated that brilliantly and the clothes were quite disappointing. Not as dazzling by any means as the exhibition photo. The best thing was the projections upstairs of 60s news articles and magazine covers.

Incredible museum to visit in London if you love fashion. Incredible exhibitions that change frequently. Beautifully curated collections

Nice exhibit space - well laid out, well lit, very informative info-panels. I went to the ‘60s fashion exhibit which I loved ! And for bonus points it’s in a great neighbourhood and only a couple of steps from London Bridge Station.
S. O.
I’ve seen few nice pieces, however it’s a bit overpriced for such a small exhibition.

The only part of the Museum that isn't accessible is the ticket desk. There's a disabled toilet. Ground floor flat from door to exhibition. Then you ask a staff member to take you through a locked door to the lift to see the upstairs.

Currently holding a exepition about fashion from the Sixties up to the mid Seventies. A wide selection of clothes and photography.well with a visit.

I’ve visited the museum three times now, photos are of my most recent visit the 1930s Night and Day exhibit. It’s a lovely layout and always well presented. Staff are friendly and the ticket prices are reasonable for the exhibit.
Only issue is the cloak room isn’t monitored so I do fear putting my coat in there if it’s an expensive one. Other than that a great place to spend an afternoon or evening, love the complimentary wine on some of my visits.

I have mixed feelings about the exhibition about Zandra Rhodes. I feel there is room for improvement in terms of what is displayed and how it is displayed, how things were lit.. I liked the interview with her and her sketchbook on display, along with photos of the print-making process she does. Wish there was more of her at work and in the process.. because that’s so interesting to me. Anyway I liked it. I’m sure someone who works or studies in the lines of fashion and design would love it or enjoy it more.
J. W.
I really like the size and layout of the museum. Always very interesting and gorgeous exhibits and friendly staff.

Just had a meeting, what a fantastic space in the city, super venue a must see. Friendly staff as well. It’s brilliant to watch highly talented people.

I very much enjoyed the swinging London exhibition, it was a mix of interior design and fashion from the 50s. I’m definitely looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Wonderful place for people interested in the business of creative craft making. The variety in the exhibitions they put on here is excellent and well worth the short walk from London Bridge.
I was a regular here but have let things slip in recent years and hadn't visited for several years. I went back a few days ago and things haven't changed...it's still the same and I am overjoyed at it!
What I like is how close you can get to the exhibits and I really get to study the pieces in detail. The gallery is in a small space, but that works in its favour as you don't get bombarded with things to see (unlike in the British museum!).
They also put on fine special events and workshops, I have been to a few and they are excellent. They have special guests from the Royal school of needlework and Savile Row putting on classes and masterclasses as well as many other talented craft workers. There is an excellent shop selling printed matter and craft items and a nice cafe.
I love the FTM because I really believe they want people to enjoy the displays and come away with some more knowledge & inspiration. I don't feel like they want to take your money and I think it is wonderful.
I will be back very soon, will keep checking the website for new exhibitions, events and classes and promise not to leave such a large gap inbetween my visits again!
Do yourself a favour and visit soon.

This is a little gem of a museum. My daughter and I had a lovely time looking at all what was on display. And the Easter chick hunt 😊 she has chose to take art and textiles for her options, so this is a great place for inspiration. definitely come back for other exhibits. The little shop has a few rather cool expensive items, but also has good reasonable items too. We got 2 books, postcard, pencils and rubber for under £22. Good workshop days available. Easy to get to. Cool location x friendly staff. well worth it!
M. P.
With only a novice interest in fashion and design, I found the museum and the space to be an amazing introduction into some of the thought and personal expression that goes into fashion design. I went to the museum to view the Anna Sui exhibition and was not disappointed! Staff and volunteers were friendly and provided a lot of education and context for what I was viewing on display. Will definitely be checking out future exhibits here.

Don't miss this beautiful exhibition Weavers of the clouds which ends on 8 September 2919. It gives an incredible insight into the lives of these people, it is not just about the textiles but explains the text about and within them

Excellent exhibition about chintz showing beautiful costumes and hats. Also films about the complex production. There was an interesting essay about how slaves were also transported on the boats after chintz fabric was taken to Africa.Nearby is an excellent Italian restaurant and an interesting glass making workshop.
P. M.
Great exhibition of 60s fashion, photographs and posters. Small but perfectly formed!
P. W.
Fabulous 60s exhibition

It was a little crammed, but I loved the exhibition nonetheless.

Fashion is passion! cool museum lots of pieces to see, staff are frendly.

I SPENT NEARLY TWO HOURS AT THIS BRILLIANT EXHIBITION
THANK YOU ZANDRA XX

The Swinging London Exhibition was excellent today. This isn't a large space but it is well set out and it is used effectively to display clothes, images, furniture, patterns and textiles. For someone born just (just) a little too late to be part of the Swinging Sixties, I found it interesting and informative.
Staff and volunteers are helpful and the shop is nice. All in all this exhibition is well worth a visit and isn't expensive for the amount of work that has gone into setting it up.
The point about the cloakroom, made by another reviewer is valid but I don't think they have the people available to monitor the coats left. Admittedly, it was quite warm on the higher level. We kept our coats on to be honest. Don't wear a posh coat, then, if you want to hang it up!!! 😋 Otherwise, all was well and though there's no cafe, there are plenty of options locally.
Great small museum! Another impressive event!! Thanks everyone!! I'll be back!!

Glorious day walking round the Zandra Rhodes exhibition at the Textile and Fashion Gallery-the guide, Teresa? was so good . It is really worth booking a tour as it really brings the exhibition to life. There are videos and projected fashion shows. I am just so amazed by the continued creativity of Zandra decades later. Magnificent. Big plus the area around the museum is so vibrant- you can spend a whole day being amazed and entertained.
L. K.
It was wonderful to be able to see Zandra Rhodes creations up close and personal - such vivid colours and fabulous prints. The exhibition was well set out and also showed large pieces of her colourful prints and some of her sketch books. It was all very interesting and well worth a visit.

I Love the f&t museum.. it is a brilliant size, Just big enough to hold everything you need to know but never overwhelming. (the last tate exhibition I went to had TWELVE rooms!!!) The range of exhibitions is wonderfully wide. Wallpaper, twenties dresses, sixties fashion (through which I lived), fabric designand printing and print, zandra rhodes herself.... Great curating and a tempting shop. have a very enjoyable afternoon with some great eateries nearby. We don't want to lose it.
J. C.
Incredible exhibitions that highlight the work of often lesser know but brilliant textile and fashion designers. I've loved every exhibit I've been to at this museum plus the atrium floor alone is a thing of beauty!
P. H.
Fantastic Zandra Rhodes show. A real treat.

Visited the Josef Frank exhibition today - we thought it was an excellent display and very well arranged. The textiles are stunning, and upstairs are several watercolours. Colour everywhere - very energising and inspiring! The cafe was nice too - a good choice of food, but rather noisy at lunchtime with all the hard surfaces. Friendly staff in both the cafe and the museum itself. Will now certainly keep an eye open for future exhibitions.
S. S.
Very weak curation, unremarkable clothes and obscenely overpriced. Don't waste your time.
P. M.
I try to attend all the exhibitons at the fashion and Textiles Museum. They are inspiring and informative. I am a professional printed textile designer, so it is important for me to support this vital resource for myself and others. I also try to attend the lectures given there by outstanding creative people in the industry.
S. W.
Well designed. Look forward to seeing more exhibitions. P.S. gift shop accessories is fantastic with affordable price
A. R.
This is a unique, niche museum. I tried to visit as much as I could, especially if in the area. The display is always interesting and creative. I also like the little cafe attached to it and a gift shop. Bought a pair of interesting earrings handmade by an artist there and they are one of my favorite.
J. L.
Really quality display with lots of information. Highly recommended

The pattern cutting workshop/short course led by Michelle Lewis was fantastic.... She is so skilled and knowledgeable, and makes it fun. Very enjoyable course, well-organised and excellent value for money. I learned a huge amount and I shall definitely enrol for more courses at the FTM.

Came here to see the Liberty exhibition via Harpers Bazaar subscriber event - Dennis the curator is just so knowledgeable and there are so many related events to learn more about the exhibition. There are also other events, such as talks and book signings as well as learning & making events and in comparison to other institutions, is very competitively priced! Definitely a great museum on fashion / textile!
S. C.
Amazing museum for a different type of sight seeing.
L. S.
Inspirational - not a museum but a living artspace - cool if your are interested in textiles and are looking for some ideas or a new thing! The installations change and some major names appear from time to time - great if you are a student. And you MUST check out the cafe right next door. A great way to spend about 2hours - something different in a re-emerging part of town.

FTM is one of those places that not many people tend to know about but I really do feel it's worth a visit. They change the exhibition quarterly. Zandra Rhodes has just finished and been replaced with Belville Sasson. Exquisitely made dresses through the ages that will blow you away (if you're in to that!). Depending on how absorbed you get with it you can probably do it in an hour? It's an intimate venue with lots to offer and a gorgeous little jewellery shop full of painfully pretty and quirky things in equal measure. Cute coffee shop too with deli.

The Swinging London Exhibition featuring Mary Quant and Terence Conran was fab! I loved to wander habitat on the Fulham Road in the late 60's and 70's. Wonderful to see Quant garments close up without a glass case keeping you away.

If you're interested in any aspect of fashion from the 195Os onwards, whether it's design, print, couture, illustration, craftsmanship, photography or the designers behind it all, you'll find something to interest you at the museum. There's a regular programme of exhibitions - 3 a year - with related events as well as practical courses and workshops. Keep an eye on the talks and events too. I've enjoyed a visit to the print room where Zandra Rhodes textiles are produced as well as having the opportunity to handle and take a close look at a selection of costumes from the collection including Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior and Rhodes. The museum regularly hosts talks from authors, designers and curators that are always insightful and inspiring. I can't recommend these experiences highly enough! #museum #fashion #textiles

It's a wonderful place with lots of amazing exhibits. I especially love the temporary exhibitions which are ever changing. It's a brilliant place with something for everyone.

I thought it was a terrific, very inspiring exhibition. It was wonderful to see the collection of her work. The museum staff were also very helpful.

I am very pleased to catch the current exhibition Visionary Knitwear during visiting London. Fashion and Textile Museum has such beautiful collections of contemporary fashion knitwear of Camille Hardwick to vintage fashion knitwear of Chanel and Vivienne Westwood. Great inspiration I received for my bespoke dresses through this exhibition.

The Fashion and Textile Museum is a contemporary fashion museum in Bermondsey, London. Founded by British designer Zandra Rhodes in 2003, the museum is part of the Newham College of Further Education – one of Europe's largest further education colleges.
J. B.
You should check out this museum, if your in this part of London. It's quite small and is located in a great part of the city. It's also worth exploring the local area.

(Translated) Nice, small museum with changing exhibitions, always on one topic. Contrary to some previous comments, I don't find GBP 9 too expensive as entry (if you see what's different in London!). The current exhibition "Night and Day" (1930s Fashion and Photographs) is very nicely put together. Some of the models shown are just gorgeous. The catalog included in the price provides detailed information on the individual exhibits. The cafe wasn't open, but there are some good options for a bite to eat nearby. Although a bit out of the way, the museum can be reached in 10-15 minutes from Tower Bridge and the new buildings on the banks of the Thames. By the way, the glass workshop directly opposite is also very interesting.

Nettes, kleines Museum mit wechselnden Austellungen, immer zu einem Thema. Im Gegensatz zu einigen Vorkommentaren finde ich 9 GBP nicht zu teuer als Eintritt (wenn man sieht was anders in London kostet!). Die aktuelle Austellung "Night and Day" (1930s Fashion and Photographs) ist selhr schön zusammen gestellt.
