Reviews of The Hardy Tree

Nice quiet spot for a bit of reprieve from the city. Tree has an interesting history too.

Beautiful, quiet grounds.
Found out about this place from Atlas Obscura and thoroughly enjoyed the stroll around the beautiful gardens and of course, the Hardy Tree.

Beautiful cemetery. I wouldn't go out of my way to see the tree unless you are a big Hardy fan, but if you're at Kings Cross no reason not to go for a little walk and see this rather unique tree + headstone combo

Very ancient and historical place. Great park and churchyard to have a sitdown and a bit of rest.

Interesting piece of history with a lovely church

Located on a mound in one of London's most intriguing lesser known public gardens this former graveyard is rich in historical association. The Hardy Tree with somewhat tenuous and apocryphal connections to the author.
Probably sprinkled with the fairy-dust of folklore.
But it certainly resonates as anecdotal fodder.
“ we late lamented resting here are mixed to human jam and each to each explaining in fear I know not which I am” Thomas Hardy.

You can't get very close to the tree but it's nice to see some living tree with a history.

Very interesting. We wandered around whilst visiting a friend in the nearby hospital (same hospital where Sylvia Plath was a patient). Large church yard with the fascinating Hardy Tree and a tomb that supposedly inspired Gilbert Scott’s iconic telephone box. The lovely church is also worth a visit.

Had just finished reading Tess of the d'Urbervilles so for me this was a must see.
Surprised how quiet and empty the grounds were on a Saturday morning. Not from London so took a little exploring to find the grounds from local train station. Worth it!!

Love the history story on this tree.
