Reviews of Bamburgh Castle
R. M.
This is very possibly the best castle I’ve ever visited. Even from the outside it looks big, but I was still shocked by just how extensive it is once you start exploring. To think I was almost out off by the £15 entrance fee because I thought I’d only be there for half an hour.
The outside offers truly breathtaking views over the sea as you gaze out over the cannons, imagining facing an invasion. Then feel free mill around the museum with some cool war time artefacts and aviation pieces. There is a cafe and tea rooms, but I didn’t avail of their services so can’t comment.
When you enter the castle, this is where you really feel like you’re being guided on a journey through the ages. Seeing various stages of it the condition of various stages of history, not all restored from one age. This, for me at least is what really made it. Ordinarily I’d list out some of the things you can expect to see, but the real enjoyment came from being surprised as you made your way through at each twist and turn - of which there were many.
Huge gift shop also stocking local fare on the way out. Also make sure you nip into the dungeon for good measure.

This castle was amazing! So glad we stopped and well worth the trip off the A1. During our visit there were not many people there which made looking at the rooms and exhibits fun as we could take our time. There were 14 state rooms that were set up to highlight the castles rich history.
A. M.
Even in dull weather the castle is stunningly beautiful. Its like walking around Hogwarts. The kids loved it as you can see from the pictures. It's right on the sea front which is perfect for a walk with the kids and the dog. Car park was close and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.
K. G.
Great location with superb views over the coast. The inside is fully furnished and loaded with antiques. Make sure sure you arrive well before 4 pm. Save some time to enjoy the outside too. It cost us about $19 a ticket.
S. Q.
Amazing place to visit especially nearer Christmas as the state rooms had been decorated with the 12days of Christmas. To know that it is still being lived in is fascinating. Right next to the beach which you can get to from the car park, lovely walk with the dog.
J. S.
The staff everywhere is so friendly and helpful. The ticket room coffee was yummy- I had 2.
The castle was decorated for Christmas so my husband and I took turns going to look inside - we had our dogs.
Wish there was some other indoor areas to go with dogs as it can get chilly. All in all it beautiful.

Breath taking Castle, location and views. Full of information left me investigating more into its history. The best castle I've ever been to!! Sympathetically restored and displayed. The museum was fascinating. They have got the perfect balance in presenting the castle without over commercialisation! 100 percent recommend!!! Well worth every penny!!!
R. S.
Visited with dog, we could walk round the grounds but not go in the castle interior, which is understandable. Would have been nice to have a reduced rate just for the grounds. Lovely spectacular buildings very well maintained, car park was close and cheap at £4 for the day, with the beach just being a short walk through the dunes.
G. v.
Stunning! The beach is beautiful, castle looks fantastic although we did not venture in. The village itself is pretty but for me it was the beach that stole the show. Worth visit in any weather to be honest.
L. T.
Honestly? The staff were great, and it was simple enough to park and get in.
However I didn’t find a lot of the castle to love. From what I read the castle was derelict for most of its time, and most of it was a reconstruction by one of its owners so a lot of what your seeing has little to no history.
If you want a day out with nice views it’s worth a visit, but I have to say there are other sights to see which are far more interesting.
A. M.
Definitely worth a visit. Beautiful well preserved castle. Lovely staff, very helpful. The video at the start of the inner building was informative and gave a good intro to the history of the site.
Will be bringing the in-laws when they come visit the UK.
s. h.
Really great place. The staff was really helpful, with my disabled Dad. Both had an amazing time. Never had to wait to get in as we booked on line. Also dogs are welcome(not all areas though), we had such a nice time saying hello to peoples dogs
E. W.
Absolutely amazing and well worth a visit. The Saints and Angels Christmas display was fabulous. The christmas trees and decorations around he fireplaces were beautiful. The view of the castle from the beach is amazing. We loved it all.
R. C.
Great place to wonder around for a few hours on a sunny day, have a drink in the tea room or nip into the castle and see the art, antiques and the dungeon 😳. There are two car parks one close to the castle and a longer stay just off the main road (well sign posted). Don't forget that lovely long beach before you go home 😁.
J. T.
Great day out in lovely Bamburgh. Spent a good few hours at the Castle. Bought tickets in advance so made entry easy. Very long queue at very small food outlet. We had taken a picnic but for those who hadn't it was a long wait.
K. H.
Beautiful castle in an atmospheric setting. Beautiful views all round. Castle very interesting inside and out. Still holds me spellbound first visit back in 18 years and as stunning as ever. Tea rooms are a new addition for me , very pressed very generous portions, excellent value for money and caters for dietary differences. Staff were very friendly and accommodating
J. S.
This is a very substantial and impressive looking castle which towers over the town of Bamburgh.
There are some great walks around the castle which also lead through the sand dunes and onto the beach.
You can park for free in the town and its only a 5 minute walk to the castle with some free, public toilets near by.
L. P.
Decided to visit the castle. Every time I've seen the castle is from the beach when the tide is out. So good to see it up close and personal. It's a big castle and is very imposing. So interesting to learn its history and get to see both inside and out. Well worth the money. Spent an afternoon here plus my other half wanted to go, I think, to visit the aviation museum, which is also inside and included in the cost.
g. h.
Great day out at Bamburgh Castle. Rooms are fully restored and beautifully decorated for Christmas. Family ticket makes it about £10 each for 4 which is good value. If you are bringing a dog, they can go inside to the stables area but not into the state rooms etc. Amazing views on a clear day. aviation museum seemed a bit of a jumble of stuff.
M. C.
The most beautiful castle I have ever visited. Lovely rooms ,history and great views. And our dog was allowed to enter (Not the main rooms but we made turns to go inside,so no worries)
The dunes and the beach are also a must visit for a nice walk!
M. T.
£14 each adult to get in. More than worth it. Incredible views, was quiet and sunny. Dogs are welcome but you can't go in everywhere with them and wouldn't leave you much to do. Staterooms interesting and well laid out.
Scone in stable cafe was the best scone I have ever had. +1
K. K. P.
We paid £14 each to enter plus £4 for parking which I though was really reasonable. Lovely views of the coast, the town and so much history. Such a magnificent sight when driving up the coast road.
J. M.
It's not every day that you get to go to a castle being from Texas. This is my favorite castle in the UK. My family went and had a picnic at the castle before entering. We didn't purchase tickets in advance and the process went smoothly. There was a fun and engaging kids activity to do as well. We toured the grounds and all inside the castle. It is well-kept and incredible. The video upon walking into the castle is very engaging as well. It was a gorgeous day with incredible views. I love the blue clock at the castle and the copious amount of deep history throughout.
D. H.
Views from the castle are beautiful but it doesn't take long to look around. There are some thoughtful exhibits, some of which are interactive. The best bit of today's visit was the viking village displaying crafts.
A. 5.
This could be an all day affair. The castle is interesting, built at different times. The grounds have interesting things in it and if the day is nice, there is a lovely walk down to the beach. It is was too foggy. There is a museum attached, where items that have been found in and around the site are displayed.
V. N.
Great castle. Google it for more information on your visit it take a while to walk round so take into consideration it will take some time to look around. Great views of the sea and a superb massive sandy beach a few miles long to enjoy roo
S. P.
Really interesting day, wandering around the state rooms and the grounds.
There's even a small aircraft / military museum, showing a couple of interesting, and eclectic pieces.
Overall a good few hours spent.
M. R.
Amazing castle, please take your time to visit, there was so much to learn about. I knew about the Viking connections but was blown away by the history of the Armstrong family. Will have to come back again with more questions.
J. T.
Always drove past, but never been in! We were staying at a nearby campsite so made a definate decision to go inside! Loved it! Staff were so friendly and knowledgeable, beautiful castle, it even has a dungeon! Its well worth a visit.
M. B.
Fantastic place, really interesting history. We loved every minute of it. Make sure you take a camera or phone, as there are great views of the coast and the Farne islands from the castle walls.
S. L.
Beautiful castle in a stunning location.
The museum displays are dated though.
When we visited only one cafe was open due to ‘staffing problems’ and the selection of food was very limited.
Traditional games laid out on the lawn was a nice touch - helped pass twenty minutes.
C.
Fantastic place. This is extremely impressive. There are plenty of parking up at the castle and only £4 for all day. There is an overspill car park at the bottom of the castle that is more expensive at £7 for 24 hours. The overspill car park gives the opportunity to walk up to the castle and this in itself is something that should be done. It is very impressive and the grounds themselves are extremely well kept. The staff are friendly and everything is really accessible. The toilets are clean and well looked after as are all of the eating areas. It is very inexpensive for the amount of time that you can spend here. Walking around the grounds and parts of the castle gives great views of the surrounding land and beaches. There are a great deal of things to see and information to read that tell the history of the castle and it's owners. Going inside gives some great insight into history and there are a lot of things to see and information and history to read. You can spend as much time in each room as you want in order to take it all in. Definitely well worth a visit and make sure you leave enough time to see it all.
A. “. &. P. o. T. D.
Excellent castle to visit, also a military museum towards the bottom of castle grounds.
Activities for children.
Disabled access to most areas, state rooms have some restrictions but staff will help in any way they can.
Highly reccomended.
S. S.
Always a pleasure to visit Bamburgh Castle. In summer it's beautiful and in bad weather it dominates the area like a glowering beast.
One of the best places to see the castle is from the beach - see what the vikings would have seen as they approached by sea.
L. D.
Picturesque castle, we enjoyed the scenery and walking around. Toilet on-site which signed so can find, cafe sigh but no cafe! Could not find it .. might been just us. But apart from that enjoyed it.. well worth going to have a look around
J. C.
Outstanding views and sites. The castle itself is awesome. The interiors are gorgeous and stunning. The grounds are immaculate and well kept too.
P. D.
Fabulous beach x plenty of space . Young surfers out and older . All having a great time. Lots of parking . A whole castle yo explore. Lots of cafe s on main street or sit on a rock like I did with my flask and watch the surf with my dog .
M. E.
I love a good castle. I knew it was closed but I still wanted a closer look. It is massive and glorious to look at from a distance. The grounds are extensive and I can walk all around it with the dog. I can't wait to come back when it is open!
L. L.
Amazing castle on the beach.
This place is really big and a marvel to be hood. Nestled in the small village it has much to offer.
It’s been used as a filming location for some big Hollywood films as well as the small screen.
This is a real historic treat. AmaIng views all around and very impressive next to the beach.
A. S.
This is definitely worth a visit, such a massive castle, with wonderful views from the top. The rooms you are aloud to walk through are beautiful and you could spend a few hours looking at a small percentage of what's on offer.
R. F.
Seriously impressive looking castle in a lovely village. Very well presented and interesting history but having visited other castles in the area, they could do more in terms of making it an experience. Having read ‘The Last Kingdom’ series of books, I was surprised not to see more links to it. Good parking available(for a few pounds all day), busy during the holidays though.
D. C.
Amazing views, games for kids to play in the gardens.
Not the cheapest but where is cheap these days.
Kids loved it, definitely recommend it as a family visit.
K. L.
Beautiful castle, interesting history and of course, stunning beaches and views from the castle. We did walk from Seahouses along the beach, such a lovely walk (3,5miles).
G. W.
Been wanting to visit this castle for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. Had coffee and a cake to start with which we really enjoyed.
There was plenty to see , all well laid out with loads of information and many staff to answer any questions that you might have.
Recommended place to visit, especially if you have watched the TV series or read Bernard Cornwall's Last Kingdom books.
A. E.
A nicely restored castle, still privately owned. Plenty of interesting information spread through the castle. Well worth a visit. Pre book to avoid queues.
P. N.
A wonderful. Beautiful place to visit, the scary is amazing. But if you have mobility issues I would think twice, call ahead as there is some support.
T. T.
Amazing place to visit. Lots to do scenery is amazing. And cafe is not to expensive either. Even my toddler loved it. Will definitely go back again
J. H.
What a great day out!
Parking right at the castle £4
Ticket was about £16 perhaps for an adult
We spent 4 hours there and it felt like 1!
So interesting and so much to do
Had kids activities on the lawn including a chance to try croquet!
2 cafes on site with delightful treats
h. b.
Excellent example of a really well preserved castle. Was a lovely sunny day, which made it perfect. Got there early to get disabled parking spot (plenty of parking, but filled up quickly). Good portion of castle is wheelchair/scooter accessible, as described on the website. Beyond the great hall is steps, but staff are very passionate and friendly, and had a dvd of the rest of the castle, so husband didn’t miss much, and could see what I had a wander round. Grounds fully accessible, a bit steep in places, but fine for scooter. Nice cafe selling lovely home made food. Dog friendly, and close to fabulous beach. Would definitely go back.
d. h.
Great day out, views up to and around the castle fantastic great to explore inside with years of history, old and recent with the Armstrong museum. Explore the nearby village and fantastic beach.
A. S.
Excellent day out at Bamburgh Castle, very imposing view as it first comes into view. The cafe was reasonably priced, my only gripe would be the price of the car park at the bottom is £3 more than the car park at the Castle entrance at the top of the road.
G. C.
Cool castle, steep lunch prices.
Visiting the castle was fun. They had organised a little hunt for children around the place. The museums on site are also worth the visit.
I found the indoors rooms very interesting around the history of the place, etc.
Downside, the lunch places get crowded quickly and at abouy £12 per person for a basic lunch, it felt steep. Captive audience, I suppose.
L. H.
It costs £12.50 to enter the castle. You do not need to book beforehand but during busy times it will guarantee you access. There is a car park at the foot of the castle this costs £4. You can park in Bamburgh for free at the side of the road. There are toilets and cafes in the castle. The cafe serves a range of drinks and food. The food and drinks are a good quality and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and helpful. The castle looks very impressive from the outside and covers a vast area. This can be miss leading when visiting the interior as not all the inside of the castle is available to visit. Due to the size of the outside of the castle I was expected to see more rooms inside the castle and that these would look like a castle. The most impressive room is the great hall.
A.
Great castle. Well maintained and a lot of trimmings too such as the WW2 aviation museum and the halls themselves
Would have loved to explore more of the castle but understandable that you can't considering it's still occupied.
I. W.
An amazing castle so much history we paid 14 pounds very good value we think. There's 14 rooms to view all immaculately presented There's a café and an extra aviation museum to look around.
T. H. U.
Loved every minute of the castle. The facts and history of the place was second to none. The views from the castle where breath taking. The staff at the castle were very friendly
S. W.
Very nice place, good views. The castle itself is undergoing repairs in places and the aviation museum is also being redone, but still plenty to look at. Took about 2 and a half hours to get round and have a bite in the cafe, which although a little expensive was ok for what it was. If anything it could do with some more of the history from before the Armstrong's as I feel this was lacking.
G. W.
Impressive castle with a few thousand years of history. Nice displays and exhibition describe the castle history through the ages. Some nice paintings and exhibits from more modern times (when I say modern, I mean within the last 5 or 600 years!) The aviation museum is also well worth a visit.
A. S.
Really enjoyed our visit to Bamburgh Castle. Weather was perfect. All staff were great.
Cafe a bit odd forgot to put order in kitchen for teacakes. Apart from that hiccup perfect day
L. S.
We had a lovely visit to Bamburgh castle at the weekend, easy to get to, simply stunning castle. It's so well thought out, the rooms and exhibits tell you a personal story of the castle, interspersed with the history of that time. Every member of staff we encountered was just lovely and helpful, a special mention to Brian and Mike who were so kind to me. There's a wee buggy which will take you up and down the hilly parts, which as someone with mobility issues was a godsend and allowed me to see more of the castle. Its a must see if you're in the area!
A. U.
Car park available just by the castle, £4 for the whole day which is great as you can explore the seashore after your visit.
The castle itself is beautiful, well maintained. It's history is interesting. You can take dogs into the grounds. It is worth a visit.
The uniqueness about this castle is, that is lies on a sandy beach which offers a great walk especially at low tide. A great place to take your dog for a run or enjoy a stroll. It is like a two in one dayout place.
M. E.
If it's cold and wet this would have been a five star... If you enjoy seeing other people's fully furnished homes, alternatively you have children or grandchildren needing education and entertainment. This would have been five star and the cafe certainly was five star..
C. B.
We had an amazing trip. We paid a bit extra for a Last Kingdom themed tour which was excellent! Anglo Saxon reenactors on site we're incredible, really informative and also lots of fun! Dog friendly in the inner ward, not allowed in the state rooms but if you have kids it's the outside stuff they will like best anyway.
W. (. W.
We went as a family, I loved going round and seeing all the various areas and setups they have there. It was a good day out and we could bring our dog too, she wasn't allowed in the main castle area however. Loved the gift shop and cafe.
C. K.
What a cracking day at a magnificent castle with the added surprise of an aviation museum. Looks like a real life Kings Landing!
The museum houses parts from a downed De Havilland Spitfire with a fascinating story behind it. The surrounding coastline is beautiful and a short walk to get to the beach.
My only slight disappointment is that there are so many tiny corridors, staircases and parts of the original castle blocked off from public view that it felt like there was so much more to explore. Had I been 10 I can almost guarantee, I would have been in them all.
D. G.
A stunning castle on the edge of a very sandy beach which looked popular. Lots of history told through the tour around the buildings. Car park was only £4 all day at the castle itself compared to the main car park in village which was £7 for 5 hours. Great views from the castle walls in land and out to sea. You can see Holy Island on a good day. On line booking system wasn’t working so we just bought tickets on the door. Shop/cafes were card only , no cash.
A. C.
What a fab place to visit views are brilliant from castle. Castle state rooms are lovely and tea shop there. Staff friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.
E. D.
Didn't go inside, walked the perimeter and did a circuit around Bamburgh! Absolutely beautiful place. Would love to visit in the summer, the beach was amazing!
A. E.
Nice family day out full of history. 14 £ticket, you will have to pay for parking and or park for free in the town and walk about 5 minutes.
A. I.
Best located castle ever, just above a sandy beach! A beautiful site to visit, we had a lovely time. Highly recommended!!
S. B.
Great castle but the outside views over the beach are the real highlights. Definitely worth a visit. The old keep in the castle is from the 12-13th century and you can just imagine what it would have been like then. It costs £14 to enter. There is parking too for £4. You can also walk down to the beach after passing the dunes.
M. M.
Loved this place. Great to walk around with the kids. At the start of the tour there is an animation about the history of the castle followed by a video of the current owner talking about it too. Then you are free to visit the open rooms with portraits, weapons furniture and don't forget the magnificent views.
The castle itself dominates the landscape, imposing itself on a Cliff above the dunes. It can be seen for miles and has been restored back to being a full building.
J. G.
A lovely day roaming around this stunning building in an outstanding location, even though the weather was drizzly we were really pleased we visited.
Lots of local history and displays to ponder
The cafe and other amenities were super
Highly recommend
M. R.
This castle is incredible with great views over the beach and out to sea towards the Holy island. It's just a shame that whilst we visited there was a wedding on,so we had to view the second half of the tour first and then wait around for for half an hour for the wedding to finish before we could see the start. The parking charges are ridiculous especially when the cost of entry is so much aswell. I am sure they could charge less with the amount of visitors they receive.
J. H.
We went to Bamburgh Castle on a Wednesday in August. Parking was a bit difficult with so many people visiting. Most people were parking and going to the beach below.
Make sure to walk to the village and get some really good ice cream.
B. P.
After reading the Bernard Cornwell series on Bebbanberg Castle (as it was known then) this was a must see while in the North of England! Extremely well preserved and absolutely majestic, even sighting it from down the road it inspires awe! Quite busy but there is plenty of room in and around the castle itself. The nearby beach and town were also busy, as it should be on beautiful days like this! Come see for yourself!
C. M.
Absolutely Brill to visit, had family stay so they wanted a change of scenery. Well worth the trip to see the Christmas decorations too. We will be back again.
s. g.
What a place! Landmark!
The castle was amazing and you will be proudly be able to say and believe that you are standing in such an historical landmark. Castle by the beach!
Beach was amazing as well.
Don’t forget to take photos inside the castle, and then walk on the beach and take the photos with castle in the background
S. J.
Stayed 4 miles away and travelled to Bamburgh every other day for dog walks around the castle, beach and dunes. Nice pubs, good butchers and other places of interest.
M. L.
Have waited for ever to visit here. Not disappointed. Beautiful place. All dressed up for Christmas too. Definitely going back, I didn't see everything and I didn't walk on the beach. This is a beautiful part of Great Britain and you can't throw a stone without hitting a castle. Lovely people up north, no idea what there saying but there lovey. Lots of history, traditions and amazing food. If you have never been before, visit Northumberland.
S. T.
Had a wonderful time at Bamburgh Castle. The rooms are fantastic the history and information are well done and fantastic. The views from the castle are stunning. Well worth a visit shop and cafe fantastic and good value.
C. W.
This is a very old castle with 3,000 year old history of settlements. Lord Armstong (1810 to 1900) purchased the castle from a charitable trust. The castle was inherited by his nephew and is still family owned.
Lord Armstong renovated the castle. With it's towering position against the sea it forms a dramatic backdrop.
The castle is part of Historic Houses and members of Historic Houses can visit for free.
There are cafes dotted around the site.
You pay to Park at the Castle on rough ground or Park below the castle in a council controlled car park.
S. M.
Fabulous castle, loads to see and do in such a beautiful location.
It is large with a variety of rooms to explore. There's a tea room and a shop too.
J. M.
Excellent castle in a stunning location overlooking the coast which is definitely worth a visit, the village is also very pretty with several pubs and cafes if you're looking for somewhere to eat
A. S. (.
If I could give more than 5 🌟 I would staff are absolutely fantastic and well informed on the history and the grounds even in winter the castle looks amazing..thank you guys from Tinys GB cycle ride
B. W.
Nice castle right on the beach. Things to see inside as well as out. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Dog friendly.

Bamburgh Castle has a distinctive mix of styles and a great history, which is covered well in the drawing on the way in, as well as in the digital display in the main room.
Disabled access looked possible as there were many ramps and a wheelchair user along parts of our experience.
We had visited Lindisfarne before and I would recommend doing that to get the full historical context, you can see each site from the other on the coast.
The rooms were spaced out well but with a lot of connecting stairs, I'm not sure that it would all be navigable with a physical disability.
Historically, the site covers a long stretch, BC up until the World Wars with its inhabitants' engineering links, with machinery and weaponry on display too, so if you're a military buff, you'll get something out of it too.
We didn't eat there but there was a small cafe and toilets are on site. We paid £14.10 each and this felt just about right. Parking on site can be done through coin or pay by phone, which I'd recommend as it's used heavily in the area and costs about £5.00.
The main issue with Bamburgh Castle is a lack of flow. It's hard to know where to go, what's actually available to see and how to get out from where you are. Parts are also quite steep but there are ramps too. The hill up is also a bit of a trek. If you are with someone who uses a wheelchair, it looks like you could drive up the hill and come back down, I'd check with the castle before going.
Whilst we were attending, there were some renovations and rejigs to the current experience, so this might be remedied in the near future.
The staff were all very friendly and polite and I think it's important to remember that this space is privately owned and the family must be putting a lot of work into it.
There are a few issues with the digital display, a spelling mistake and an object that blocks its information.
If you're thinking of going to Alnwick Castle or Bamburgh Castle, Bamburgh is a bit cheaper but each one does offer its own thing.
S. C.
Lovely place to visit. And dog friendly as long as they are kept on leads. Parking is £4 while you are there. There is a nice tearoom and a little cafe in the stables. We didn't visit the staterooms. But they were open. ☺️

Have visited this castle numerous times, it is one of my favourite places. It is located in stunning scenery. The beach is amazing too. The castle itself is beautifully kept with lots to see. Home to the Earls of Northumberland ( the Percy’s) there is a lot of history here. You can see Lindisfarne ( Holy Island) from here. There have been archeological excavations going on during some of my visits. The series The Last Kingdom has also filmed at this location. There is a cafe on site, have not been in so cannot comment on food or prices. Parking is available very near to the castle.

Hi there once again google fam, first of all allow me to apologise for my absence, like everyone I’m sure it’s 100mph all week and with 3 monsters to deal with round the clock leaves one very little time. So back to it, this review is all about bamburgh castle 🏰 and let me say what an inexpensive day this was, it was a fabulous drive to the location plenty of countryside, and you know instantly your getting close when you see the sea out of your window. Upon arrival from the main road you turn up into the castle, a short drive to the carpark where you’ll be met by a friendly steward who takes your carpark payment £4. All day long, he does have a card machine too I would say to be safe arrive before 11:30, trust me you will spend the day there, if however the top park is full at the base of the castle road where you turned up there is another massive carpark facility there too. Once parked if at the top you will notice also there is a short walk through some dunes and there is one of the most cleanest and stunning beaches I’ve ever seen. Golden sands and beautiful waters, hence why I know your going to spend the day there. You can prebook your castle entrance fee and guide book on line which makes it a bit quicker but to be honest we practically walked straight in. If you have children there is plenty of grounds for them to do what they do best, run like Bafoons everywhere, the other beauty of this place is the family ticket is two adults and up to three children which is a rarity, and also dog friendly other than the great hall is the only place no dogs are allowed but don’t worry cause they will thank you when you take them down the beach to run wild. The staff here are fantastic friendly and really helpful. The toilet facilities are centrally located extremely clean also, so no mad dashes across country for relief. 😆 they have wall videos about the castle in the main rooms, interactive tables for the kids,(digital of course to keep their attention. ), and If like myself and my wife you are fiends for architecture this place will have you drooling all the way round it is sooooooo beautifully designed. There are food facilities, food wagon etc but they are quite pricy so if your a family I would highly recommend picnic because there is so many grassy areas you can sit and eat or sleep as I saw many folk doing, just chilling about. I think we spent about 2-3 hours walking the grounds and the halls, and once you come out of the dungeon which has a model setup which is really great you can get some goodies from the gift shop which to be fair is really well priced not like most where you have to remortgage your home to buy a key ring. Anywho I think I’ve rambled on enough now so check out my pics of the castle and surroundings. Stay safe guys.

Great place to see the beach and have a great lunch. Not many places in the UK offer these spectacular views and have the chance to have a pint and great food with views of the castle.
S. B.
Amazing beach walk incredibly close to the stunning castle on the hill. A beautiful place to visit, parking is close by although expensive at £5 for 3 hours. I would recommend for all years to visit the castle and the beach.
M. L.
First visit to this area and certainly not the last. Bamburgh Castle has certainly left a beautiful imprint in my mind and heart ❤️ had a wonderful visit and will definitely be back to see more 😊
S.
Turning the corner and seeing the castle in the distance made us gasp in wowness. To gain entry we had to defeat all the crowns enemies, undergo great physical duress and deal with devious foes. Uhtred had it easy. Absolutely amazing place to visit with so much to see. In holiday times I recommend to get tickets in advance as you may have to queue for 15 mins....
J. S.
Impressive castle when approaching into the village, tickets were reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly.
Children had an activity ok to complete with a sweet treat at the end and stamp for the enclosed certificate.
Grounds are well maintained and there is lots of vantage points to see the scenery.
The Armstrong museum in the grounds have som interesting Words War artefacts
There is some places to eat in the old stables and the castle itself..
Inside tour of the castle takes you through some of the state rooms and then into the keep and dungeon. Shop is at the end with some good prices.
R. F.
Beautiful castle with so much history and amazing views. The state rooms are well worth a visit. You can take dogs into the grounds too, just not inside the castle.
M. G.
Very interesting and charismatic place to visit; the history, the views -amazing -with good information and snippets about the present encumbents. Organised, helpful staff-very nice friendly and helpful/informative man in the car park and the lady who came in to tidy up the loos!
S. D.
This is a truly spectacular castle.
The setting from the beach looks incredible. It looks an impeccable fort which no wonder was so hard to breach being carved in to the rock face.
The pricing was very fair and value for money.
We had our dog with us and they are allowed to access the full grounds, the stables and outside the cafe.
They weren’t allowed in to the state rooms which is understandable giving the space and also the history in the building.
We went in to the castle taking turns whilst one waited with the dog and the 14 rooms did not disappoint.
So much history and heritage to walk your way through with factual information and some voice recordings from days gone by.
You could spend a couple of hours walking inside the castle as there’s so many things to see and take a proper look at.
If we could have taken the dog inside I would be giving this a 6 stars :)
C. R. a. S. J. G.
Beautiful grounds and such a fascinating castle it's a pinky colour.
We had the dogs with us so didn't see inside but will return.
The beach was amazing
e. c.
A very atmospheric trip with the wind and rain blowing! A special mention for the cafe staff who very brilliant. They served approximately 30 of us with hot drinks, sarnies and cake in short order and with smiles on their faces.
M. R.
Incredibly scenic castle
The castle is well visible from the coast, where you can have a walk on both sides of it.
The structure is pretty impressive, it reminds you of its glorious past and it has different interesting layers.
The castle interior is okay, I found the ones in Alnwick a bit better, perhaps because they staged some activities to bring the structure to life a bit more.
A. M.
Beautiful place to visit. A memorable family day out! Would definitely recommend 👌
M. “. A.
Just an incredible place takes you're breath away coming down the hill and seeing it for the first time , great parking locations with 2 charge points , incredible history where ever you turn and the food in the cafe is yummy 😍
Ps : Great place for budding photographers like myself 📷
5.
Loved it. Great to walk round and see the history of the Castle. Fabulous view of the coastline from the Battlements.
A. N.
Excellent views from around the castle. Very interesting for me but my young children got bored when inside. Staff are very friendly.
J. W.
The entry fee is on the expensive side, but we enjoyed wandering around the grounds. The Christmas decorations inside were also very nice. The aviation/Stephenson museum was disappointing, but overall we enjoyed our visit. Nice views of Holy Island on a sunny day.
L. A.
We had a lovely day at Bamburgh Castle, James was so welcoming when we arrived and were directed quickly to accessible parking and my companion was taken up the hill to the castle in a golf buggy to save the bumpy walk uphill. We didn't get the name of the chirpy driver but thank you do much to both of you for your warm welcome.
The state rooms to the great hall are accessible for a wheelchair user and if some stairs can be managed then you can go a bit further but doing it all is likely to be too much and you will need to turn back.
It's a shame that you cannot access the gift shop via a truly accessible path, though this may be a COVID related one way system.
The sandwiches in the Clock tower cafe were large and delicious. Good choice of food and friendly service. Though this is accessed via some stairs but the tack room is fully accessible.
Incredible view from all around the castle, a great day out!
s. c.
Absolutely beautiful place. Dunes and beach are perfect too. Clean, safe but not very accessible. Its hard work getting over the dunes.
Y. B.
Absolutelly blown away by the castle, inside and out. Customer service was very good aswell . Will be comming back again . Loved it. I recommeded to buy the whole year tickets its better , for me you would need to come back a few times . Theres to much to take in, in 1 trip.
a. c.
Nice place to visit . The view from the castle is amazing . There is a little path from the castle car park to the sea beach, around 15 minutes walk , the path is surround by shrub, you feel like walking in a maze , very fun. The beach is absolute stunning.
3. B.
Wonderful place to visit and learn the history of. Plenty to see and explore and if you are lucky there will be some interestiing interactivity going on.
We enjoyed Uhtreds School of Warriors where Uhtred himself taught the kids the way of the Viking Warrior and later Crowned the New Kings and Queens of the North...
G. L.
Well worth the visit, beautiful views across the sand dunes and beach. We cycled here and left our bikes in castle car park, all secure if chained.
S.
Very well presented museum with lots of great history of the surrounding area and really good descriptions of how the castle came to be, how it was restored and the connections with other parts of the country and prodigious families
J. W.
Yes it's a lovely castle. We visited in 2016 and went in the castle then. Bamburgh is a lovely small coastal town, with a wonderful array of eateries, a nice area to sit alongside the castle, what nicer view to see!
J. A.
Usually I like to look at living things and bricks and mortar aren't my thing...but how can you not 'do' Banburgh Castle when the immensity of it is all you can see for miles.
There's the sea, a golden beach, some sand dunes and then IT! It towers above everything surrounding it.Reminded me of Kilimanjaro seen from East tsavo...you know you're looking at it but where does it end ?
Enthusiastic staff and volunteers all with a smile and 20 mins to chat even though they finish in 10 mins.
The background story is compelling as you know it is still happeniñg and bumping into a Lord is commenplace.
14 rooms are open to view inside but for me it was the commonplace items amongst the grand and glorious.Rooms of a size for sitting with friends or partying the night away.
Take in the castle,a picnic on the beach, surfing for the day and yôu have more than paid for the car park.
D. G.
A fantastic castle to visit.
If you can park in the car park at the top of the hill at the castle's entrance and not the one at the bottom, it cheaper.
M. H.
Some pretty interesting bits, but was by their own admission a bit out of sorts as they were preparing for properly opening for the season. Quite expensive at nearly £15 each, but a decent enough day out for adults. Great views. Not a huge amount for kids to do.
P. W.
We travelled 3 hours to get there but it was well worth it. Fantastic looking castle. You can only really appreciate it from the beach.
C. A.
Fabulous castle and quaint area.. beach is wonderful to walk along in any weather..
Well worth a visit.
P. B.
Bamburgh Castle is an imposing site sat on top of its mound overlooking the North Sea and Bamburgh village. The castle has its own car park (£4 for the day), which was cheaper than the car park off the main road. The entrance fee is fairly expensive ( we’re from Scotland where they are free or at least less expensive). The castle grounds are well kept with plenty to see, and includes a small aviation museum, toilets, sit in and takeaway cafes, and great views across to the Farne Isles. There is a projection show as you enter he main building which tells you something about the history of the castle, and there is an abundance of rooms and objects to explore within the castle. If you’re into history, then it’s worth a visit, and there’s enough to keep you occupied for half a day, and if the weather nice you can wander through the sand dunes down to the beautiful sandy beach.
D. R.
A superb historical monument to English history, modestly priced at £14.10 per adult, we'll worth a visit.
A. R.
We enjoyed our morning here. You only need a couple of hours here. You can go inside the state rooms and look around, dogs are welcome everywhere but the state rooms. There is also a little museum a cafe and toilets. The views are spectacular from the castle. It maybe inaccessible for some people if you park on the lower carpark as the castle is on a steep hill. The beach by the castle is beautiful you could easily spend a few hours on there.
D. S.
Iconic castle towering above the coast. Most of it is fairly 'modern' as it lay in ruins for centuries but it is imposing and historically important. A must visit on a trip to the northeast.
K. P.
Nice big castle, with lost of rooms to look around and some great views of the surrounding area. You also get amazong views of the castle if you walk along the beach, parking is very reasonable and its a great day out.
C. (. R.
Bamburgh Castle is just one of those places you have to visit if you come to Northumberland. The setting is stunning, the building is impressive and the contents are interesting.
L. R.
Historical place that takes you through the history of England from 600ad to the second world war museum. So much to learn and see. Beautifully put together worth £12 entry.
F. A.
A must see.
The scenery is amazing and the history in something that everyone needs to learn about.
If you visit Bamburgh Castle, visit the shops in Bamburgh as well as they are all different and full of amazing little treats
N. T.
Such a beautiful place steeped in history, even with the slightly cold weather. You could imagine the Vikings coming over in complete surprise on a day like today.
The area is so clean and well kept, truly a beautiful place
M. D.
Just a super castle. We'll maintained, hundreds of things to see. Kids would like it also. Happy to be back soon. Great gift shop, too!
T. A.
Fabulous castle incredible history and amazing sights to see. The staff were helpful and cheerful.full.of information. Stunning views of the coast beach and village from the castle. Highly recommended
M. G.
Could be midwinter or a hot July weekend, the beach is still fabulous and free to everyone. Stunning views and a great walk.
J. N.
Beach - cava - yes!
(we're 48 to 69 in age) the swathes of golden sand, overlooked by the magnificent Bamburgh Castle and backed by sand dunes, Bamburgh Castle Beach is definitely among one of the most photogenic Northumberland beaches
As brown out by my classy photography 😉
J. H.
Well preserved and well presented castle in one of the most stunning locations in the UK. The castle has a lovely lived in feel to it and its fascinating history is depicted through various displays and information boards. Upstairs/ downstairs life is sharply contrasted between the servants quarters and the Kings Hall with some great examples of past philanthropic iniatives by the castle owners providing schooling and medical care to poorer residents of Bamburgh. And to top it all, amazing views from the battlements over the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne and the superb sandy beaches of North Northumberland.
R. M.
A fantastic piece of history, lovely staff and interesting displays. The views are amazing over to the Farne Islands and down to Lindisfarne.
A. P.
In wintertime the entrance is closed at 3pm. Be sure to have minimum 2hrs to enjoy the castle and surroundings incl.beach
T. P.
Fantastic this Castle who coming with a family. Amazing view from here to the see.
Very nice landscape.
S. D.
Fantastic castle to visit. It has an amazing history. The staff are brilliant and really went out of their way to help my disabled wife. The rooms are stunning with plenty of artifacts to see. Don't miss the aviation museum at the far end of the castle.
P. W.
Very impressive as castles go. Fantastic views over Farne Islands and Holy Island. Interesting interior as well.
s. h.
Lovely day out for the family, stunning views and a nice clean beach too.
E. W.
Great place to visit. Lots to see and do for kids and adults alike. Friendly staff. Good parking facilities.
A. B.
Beautiful day fascinating rooms with interesting items for everyone staff and carpark plenty great gift shop after nice walk down to the beach
C. S.
Wanted to visit for years ,and it didn't disapoint so beautiful ,had a fantastic day with my family, lovely inside and out, the views from the castle are spectacular of bamburgh beach, staff were all lovely, cafe was good too, the gift shop has some lovely things to buy, amazing day out, 😊, would definitely visit again, 😊
T. S.
A very impressive castle in a beautiful spot. You should take a whole day to explore the castle and the surrounding area.
M.
Certainly a place to go if exploring this area. Great views and amazing adjacent beach.
R.
I’m only going on what I know, I pulled up here for a break after driving from Inverness to Leicester in one day, I didn’t go in the castle grounds but it did look beautiful from the outside, surrounded by a gorgeous sand duney beach. There was a car park that was free for campers to stay overnight which I’ll definitely use in the future.
S. A.
An absolutely exceptional castle with stunning views and some of the most important history in the UK. Add this to the Last Kingdom tie in and you have a brilliant attraction.
J. B.
We wild camped just up the road. What a park up! Lovely little town. Gorgeous beach!
I. S.
Excellent history show at start putting the whole place in context. You cannot visit Northumberland without going here
S.
Make plenty of time to walk round. Lots to see and learn. If you manage that have a walk along the beach.
R. Y.
This is an amazing place to visit and learn about the history of the castle, we certainly didn’t realise how old it was. The views out to the beach and the sea are amazing and worth going just to see, the grounds of the castle are well kept and the state rooms were interesting to walk around too. The aviation museum was smaller than expected but still interesting. Not sure how a regular of occurrence the hog roast is but it was delicious when we had it for a lunch break!
A. C.
Great fun to visit, fantastic views and a shed load of history. The walk around the outside of the castle is worth the effort for some photo opportunities and a bit of beach time. Loved it.
L. W.
Very beautiful. We didn't visit the castle because we didn't have time, but the village is very beautiful and you can walk on the beach
D. M.
A spectacular castle set on a lovely part of the coast with beautiful beaches.
Bamburgh itself is a lovely little town with a good mix of pubs, shops and amenities.
P. J.
Bamburgh Castle is a great day out with fantastic staterooms just bursting with history. Furniture, ceramics, paintings, weapons, and so much more, give a fantastic glimpse into the castles incredible past.
P. T.
Christmas at Bamburgh, It’s been many years since I was last here, and I should not have left it so long. Parking is on site and a little pricy unless you park all day and walk to the beach as well. Alternatively there is a county council car park that is very expensive, £4.50 for 3 hours but EV charging is available.
A historic building which is both dressed and well presented, particularly at Christmas time.
Christmas decorations were excellent with footfall light with plenty of space. Allow time for both the interior of the buildings, the exterior site and a walk-through with Dunes to the beach..
14 internal rooms with access by stairs throughout, I am not aware of any accessible options
S. W.
Lovely coastal castle with loads to do it's easy to spend a full day here , plenty to do and see even a cafe if you want food and drink,, perfect for all the family , plentiful park . Some stunning views
D. S.
A brilliant visit to Bamburgh castle with so much history to take in, you could easily spend the whole day here.
B. R.
Lovely castle and history, beautiful sea views. Must stop if traveling by A1
E. M.
The view is breathtaking. I recommend . If you like the history you need to go at least once.
V. K.
Beautiful castle and clean surroundings. It looks stunning from all angels - from the main road to the seaside.
The is a cat parking just in front of the castle which has got plenty of spaces to park for required duration.
The castle is located on high level and it's great walking around.
There is a large park in front of the castle and is beautiful.
There is a walkway around this castle that takes to the sandy lovely beach.
There are lights around the castle, which I wish could have seen. But, it's beautiful overall and worth visiting.
C.
Fabulous castle with wonderful views. The state rooms were impressive.
D. M.
Beautiful castle and so much to see. Worth a visit.
S. S.
One of the most beautiful castles I have ever seen, they always seem to be a let down compared to my imagination. This one lived up to it and more. Beautiful location and vistas, incredible decor. Stunning.
R.
Bamburgh Castle is such a beautiful location… I don’t think there are many inhabited castles that look so beautiful on the coastline
P. R.
As castle go, this is a good one to visit. Lots of interesting facts (the dungeon is good). They have done a good job of making it wheelchair friendly too. I reckon 2 to 2.5 hrs is ample time to get around and see everything. You are better off parking at the top as it is only £4 all day. If yo go to the bottom -Links road car park - with the port-a-loos it is more expensive. Also the beach is nearer.
J. C.
Just visited the castle and had a really good day. Totally in awe of the collections within the museum, dating back across centuries. The history of the castle is so fascinating, brilliant day out for anyone considering it. The views from the castle are also worth mentioning - spectacular!
D. H.
Looks impressive from a distance & close up. Didn't go into the castle so can't comment on experience inside.
R. L.
Fantastic tour of the castle and it’s grounds, lots of history to be leaned,a must visit in near Northumberland 😊
M. S.
Fabulously interesting, steeped in history. Lucky to see it in its glory in December, all decked out for Christmas.
i. s.
Inside it has the history of the castle with plenty to see well kept and lovely polite staff well worth a visit
M. H.
Good place to visit. Could walk round at a leisurely pace no rushing. The food and drinks in the cafe was nice and hot. When viewing the rooms there was quite a number of steps.
E. H.
Well maintained castle with incredible views, there a good cafe there and some interesting museums too. Parking was reasonable and the beach was a short walk away
K. W.
Great place to visit for all the family and with plenty of fantastic scenery.Fairly priced and it comes with a contactless payment on entry and contactless payment at the cafe!!
M. L.
When you go to Bamburgh Castle with your family & get mistaken by a guide for one of their professional Vikings in their re-enactment village makes for priceless visit!
Well worth the admission price for the views alone, the exhibits and state rooms make it god value for money in my opinion.
R. R.
Lovely place to spend the day. Walked around and inside the castle grounds and saw some of the items on display.
C. R.
Fantastic place, the views are fantastic and plenty to see and do. Really enjoyed this castle out of all the castles in the area, the layout made it easy to see the different things, it was well signposted for where to go and what yo see. The castle has lots of family history not just the history of the building. On site was also a traditional coin maker who was a font of knowledge, out 12 year old loved speaking with him. I thing we were talking with him for 20mins. The views were fantastic.
N. W.
Amazing experience! Although the website says book on advance, we parked up in the overflow carpark (cost £4), walked through the village and managed to get in without booking.
The cafe is a bit overpriced but we were blown away by the views and its history.
K. J.
Wow, this castle is amazing. Quite a weird collection of things inside but the view and beach were stunning.
F. B.
First time visiting the inside which is just as spectacular as the outside. Stunning views!
M. C.
What a site, great location and vantage point. Spent 3 hours here including a well worth visit to the sandy beach. Castle itself is in fantastic condition considering its violent history. Lots to see inside and out. Aviation museum is only small but packed with artefacts and information. Dogs are allowed to all outside parts but not in the state rooms. Kids would love the cannons and arms rooms.
B. D.
Had a great trip here with my young daughter. From the moment we arrived the staff were fantastic, very helpful and polite. We got a children's activity book, which was good fun for both of us!
Great to walk around the walls and take in the views. The indoor section is a mix of collections from people associated with the castle over the years.
Bring a picnic, the views are unbelievable.
D. L.
Never been inside but the outside is fantastic to look at, from any angle. Worth a visit, and parking is on-site. Great beach 2mins away also
H. S.
Lovely castle and surroundings, its a Must see place, was a fun day out with the family.
V. W.
Lovely afternoon walk 🚶♂️ around the castle 🏰 and along the beach ⛱and back into Bamburgh.
S. B.
Absolutely loved visiting this castle. Beautiful views, very friendly staff, amazing location would highly recommend if you are in the area
J. W.
Lovely castle to visit, in an extraordinary setting. We were fortunate to see it on a lovely sunny day. After walking round the castle, we walked towards the aviation museum, where we came across a lovely gentleman who was presenting a re-enactment. Well worth seeing altogether.
L. B.
If you have come this far it must be because you're visiting the castle.
This Castle according to some is the best preserved castle in the England. I have to say as beautiful as it is, it isn't the original Saxon or even medieval castle. It is a Castle that along the centuries has absorbed part of the Saxons, part medieval and part Victorian. Inside you will find anything from ancient Saxon swords found in the grounds dating back to 900bc, to a grand piano from the victorian times. The castle has been restored in many wings with different materials from bricks to stones to wood, hence it does look odd in places as it looks like a a conglomeration of lots if ideas.
The interior holds many artifacts that makes the castle more like a museum with so many decades and centuries being represented either through the crockery displayed or the armours from different countries.
I didn't imagine the castle to be what it is as it isn't a representation of a particular period but a journey through history covering an infinity of items. Incredibly interesting and worth a visit. I have to give this 5 stars as it really deserves its stars.
Regarding the cafeteria or tea room my stars would only be as much as 2 stars. It is quite expensive and there is nothing special here. Sandwiches are average so are the cakes but scones are nice hence they win a further star upping it to 3 🌟
The location of the castle is second to none as it is strategically placed and next to a wonderful beach. On a clear day you can see Holy Island and Lindisfarne castle.
J.
Very enjoyable day out. Its in an fabulous location right next to the beach.
D. Y.
Beautiful views around the castle with nice beaches which are almost deserted with very few people. We started our hike from the castle to budle bay along the beach and the views were breathtaking even on a cloudy day. We didnt go inside but still worth a visit if you want to enjoy the views.
S. R.
Looks totally amazeballs from the outside. Truly stunning but the gods of ticket booking did not smile on us this day and hence no entry. Sad face. Beach and views outside fabulous. Well worth a visit for a wander around.
C. N.
Stunning views! Castle is great. Enjoyed the state rooms. The castle has been updated and is lived in. The hill up to the castle is steep, they will send a golf buggy down to pick anyone up who'd like to pitch a ride. Café etc is nice.
E. M.
Really interesting to explore the castle rooms and their artefacts. Reasonably priced for a large castle, the stunning views over the beach made the entrance fee worth paying alone. Really friendly staff too. Though the online ticket allocation had sold out we managed to get tickets on the day in person, but I would say get there sooner rather than later to avoid missing out.
M. D.
Very friendly staff, beautiful castle. Didn't have to pre book the tickets, so that's a big plus. Free map once inside, showing off all on the inside and outside. Nice wee restaurant. Gift shop with nice prices. Had a blast
J. M.
Good overall experience. Not overly dog friendly (dogs not allowed in the state rooms which compromise most of the visit). The day we were here it was extremely busy which made the visit frustrating.
C. A.
This castle is as impressive as I always hoped it would be. It's location is awesome and it looms over the surrounding area. It is largely restored but in an interesting and sympathetic way. The interior is well worth a visit. We tried to buy tickets on line before we visited but none were available. However we managed to buy them at the entrance.
A. A.
Bamburgh Castle was great, there is a lot to see and there are many years of history and many exhibits to see.
S. F.
Definitely a great view. The castle is quite interesting, although I believe the experience lacks a proper audio guide with detailed descriptions. If one manages to go on a sunny day, it's obviously better, especially since it's on the beach.
M. K.
Fabulous place. This was made even more special by the tour with Helen. She was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She obviously loves the place. She really brought to life the castle itself but also insights into investigations and archaeological digs that have gone on. We found out so much more than we could have possibly done on our own. It is also great to see how the current owners fit into the story of the castle. Fascinating. Beautiful location. Incredible. Loved it
E. M.
An amazing experience. Tour guides very informative. Inclement weather did not hamper our visit.
A. I.
Lovely castle, we visited just as they had decorated for Christmas and it was beautiful. Loads of parking, and a great beach to visit after walking around the castle itself. Those that question the admission fee obviously didn't go in as you can see that the money contributes to the upkeep of this great old place.
T. B.
Absolutely beautiful castle to visit, with a gorgeous beach as well.. also dog friendly
w.
Beautiful castle with amazing views. Is it the greatest, not sure. But an amazing, must do stop, if your in the area.
C. B.
Arrived at 4.30pm, told we were to late to go in the castle despite last entry being 6pm. Lovely walk around outside and down onto the beach.
J. G.
Large castle on the edge of a beach which as always looks more impressive from a distance than up close. Large car park opposite and suitable for motorhomes but high charges. Did not go inside due to silly prices to visit instead walked along the beach. Lovely sandy wide beach with nice views of coast line. Ruined as always by lots of dogs off the lead !
S. P. R.
Very nice castle, unfortunately when I went there were so many tiny bugs around but thats because its was raining and then it was hot and sunny the next day
C. 9.
It’s nice the dogs can explore the grounds, go in the museum and the coffee shop has outdoors seating for pets. Water borks around and staff were helpful
D. S.
Absolutely stunning views of the castle and a lovely sandy beach
K. C.
Brilliant day out, plus you get an annual pass so we're heading back tomorrow to explore more.
M. G.
We only walked around the outside but it looked brilliant. If we had of had time we would of gone in. It's one to do next time we are that way again 🙂
N. S.
Such an iconic landmark. I've been coming here for over 50 years and still love it. Steeped in history and so much to see. The village is beautiful and the beach is probably one of the best in the world. If we could only guarantee the weather.
S. T.
Fantastic views along the coast..
We just walked around the outside, as we didn't have time to go in.
I didn't pay for the car park .
There is a massive car park on the left ,off the main road .
If you start driving up towards the castle , you'll see another car park one on right .
Drive on past that and park along the side of the castle . There was loads of cars parked there and no signs about not being allowed park there . We parked there for approx 2 hours .
Cars were parked on the grass , as you can see from the photo .
T. G.
Visited here as part of our English Heritage subscription and it is always stunning to visit. This was our second visit and this time was even more beautiful as the Christmas decorations were up
D. B.
Absolutely huge castle. Great coastal views, easy parking.
Little village shops n tea rooms etc...
c. w.
Loved this castle. Great views and interesting history to see inside. You can even stay and have your wedding there as well.
j. m.
It's a cool castle one of the best ones there is. And you can Walk inside
E. K.
Fabulous castle, lots to see & spectacular views across the coast, to the Farne Islands & Holy Island - clear day permitting of course! Short stroll across to the wide sandy beach. Even though there was a substantial number of visitors, we didn't feel crowded anywhere.
O. B.
I've only seen it on the outside. The castle is grand and beautiful and it had a great view of the seaside.
M. S.
Breathtaking view, there's 2 car parking to this castle one close to the entrance and 2nd close to small church in village- £4 fee for this one.
S. Z. A.
Always a nice day out. Can get really busy at peak times. Beautiful part of the world.
D. L.
Bamburgh Castle has now shot to the number 1 spot in my favourite UK castles. It is a truly stunning place to visit, the views from the grounds of the beaches and surrounding countryside are beautiful. The admission fee (£12.50 per Adult) is, in my opinion, worth every penny, and we were happy to pay to visit such a fantastic place. The display inside the castle is both historic and very well presented. I will always visit whenever in the area, and I can highly recommend it.
T. P.
A relatively quick tour with a lot interesting items dating over a thousand years ago from this ancient site. Don't miss the nearby village.
I. L.
Beautiful and historic castle the views are stunning, and a brilliant cafe
Well worth a visit
J. F.
Really enjoyed our visit. I'd recommend parking in the castle carpark, it's £4 for all day and the gentleman on the gate is extremely friendly!
E. K.
Love it. Amazing view, castle, beach, everything. Parking only 4£ for all day.
Stunning dune's 😆 …
A. S.
Excellent day lots to see and photos to take...get there early (9.30 ideal) then able to use car park next to castle (£4) without a large climb from the road
L. C. (.
A great place to spend time. We pre-booked so entry was quick & easy. Disabled parking was straightforward. Be aware, there is a £4 parking charge at the castle car park but you can stay all day & there is access to the beach. A shuttle buggy is available for disabled, if needed. Staff were helpful & friendly. Cafe with outside seating & restaurant were both open & busy, but not to excess. Access to & egress from toilet facilities was a little confusing but the facilities themselves were clean & adequate. Whilst inside the castle there are lockers to leave bags, etc in.
W. R.
Great castle, large too, some old bits and new. Great interior worth a visit, use the castle car park as its £4 all day 👍👍 …
S. S.
Absolutely fantastic so much history been a fortress on site from 780 Car park at top of the hill right beside the castle 🏰 😀 …
r. s.
Had a great few hours here, well worth the entrance fee
C. D.
Bamburgh Castle is a lovely place with great views of the the beach, the volunteers were very helpful
M.
The castle is in good condition, probably too good for a medieval castle. TBH a bit too expensive for what you can see.
W. G. M.
Excellent day out, gorgeous sandy beach, great walk with the dog and even he loved it.
L. T.
A majestic medieval building that impresses from every angle (from the sea and the village side). Although the castle was completed in the 11th century, a fortified castle stood here already in the 6th century. The walk around the castle and the surrounding area is worth coming here ... during our visit, an Indiana Jones movie was filmed so access to the castle was not possible, but unforgettable views. ”Harrison was out of reach if anyone wanted to know.
K. G.
Walked around the outside of the Castle, along the beach and through the village. Absolutely stunning views, there was plenty of parking even though it was a busy bank holiday and a great day was had by family members of all ages. Highly recommend.
P. S.
Imposing spot from miles away - very photogenic. Nice interesting state rooms and museum. Fabulous views of a lovely beach from high above the surrounding countryside. Lovely village with nice pubs and small shops just below the castle.
M. B.
A stunning castle, in a stunning location. Lovely cafe on site and plenty to see and learn on your way around. Highly recommended
W. D.
Fantastic history and beautifully presented castle home. Full history of this castle is told here and by the present owner via video display in the kitchens.
S. S.
Pet friendly, one of the best castles I have visited. Full of history and intrigue. Great day out.
H. H.
Very well maintained and presented. Informative displays, presented in really interesting ways.
Beautiful views and further areas of interest outside in the grounds of the castle. The kids really enjoyed trying some of the old fashioned games that were available, with instructions on how to play.
Was a lovely family afternoon outing.
E.
Unfortunately missed the time to go into the castle. View was stunning from the outside and beach was a stone throwaway.
m. s.
Wonderful castle, fantastic views and the beach must be one of the world's best. I can never get enough of Bamburgh
M. B.
One of the best castles that I have ever seen, privately owned, amazing.
A. M.
This has to be my favourite castle in the country. A quick walk through the dunes and miles of beach to walk up and down a really relaxing place to escape to.
M. H.
Huge and impressive castle. Interesting and educational artefacts and displays.
m. c.
This is one of the most stunning castles I've ever visited. The views are amazing.
There are a wide range of tickets with varying prices from families, disabled and carers as well as the usual adult and child tickets.
There is an easily laid out route to follow to visit the 14 state rooms, which are full of absolutely amazing exhibits. Armour, and the best porcelain in the world. There is no hurry for you to move through the castle ,as there is plenty of space. There are video presentations throughout the tour for disabled visitors like myself who might not be able to manage any of the stairs between rooms
There are two cafe's , one more of a tearoom offering scones, cakes and various hot and cold drinks. The other is more of a restaurant with a choice of meals.
There is access to the beautiful beach and lots of outdoor sitting areas. There is also an excellent buggy service , again for people like me who are unable to climb the steep hills up to the castle, the friendly , obliging staff are only too happy to get it for you if you ask .
There are easily accessible toilets, baby changing and disabled facilities too.
There is also a beautiful gift shop stocked with the usual variety of badges, books, keyrings , magnets etc. Quite reasonably priced . This brings me to the only down side of Bamburgh , they don't accept cash for anything , entry, food or gifts. Luckily I have a debit card, my husband doesn't which , if he had travelled there alone would have meant he would have been unable to get in .
But on the whole well worth a visit.
R. C.
Great to spend 2-3 hours looking around the castle. Fantastic views it has a car park cost £4 which is cheaper than the main car park in town. Loads of space to have a picnic if you want to take your own food.
R. P.
Didn't go inside castle. Lovely location. Castle car park is £4 and you can walk through the dunes to the beach. There is another car park nearby, run by the council. Bamborough Village is also worth a visit. Nice pubs and restaurants.
K. S.
Didn't go in the castle but it's an impressive sight. The beach was quite busy but still ample room to have lots of space between families. Village was picturesque 👍 …
G. S.
Great experience, staff very helpful, friendly and polite. Thoroughly enjoyed visiting Bamburgh Castle.
s. a.
Easily the most spectacular of all the northern castles
M. W.
A brilliant place to visit for young and old. 14 state rooms with amazing artifacts. A really interesting timeline illustrates the history of the castle. Wide range of gifts to buy in the gift shop and excellent cafe. Free outdoor games for children on the lawn and an activity trail. Great views of the Farne Islands too!
C. H.
Great day out for the family with plenty to see. The on site coffee shop serves a selection of cakes that had us going back for more and the small museum was interesting and informative. Dogs are allowed but not in the State Rooms.
Don't arrive too late in the day as it can easily take a couple of hours to get round and see everything, longer if you keep eating cake in the coffee shop.
A. P.
Well worth visiting. The view of the sea from the castle alone is breathtaking, but the castle itself is beautifully presented with fascinating displays. The clock tower tea room was expensive but pleasant. My little boy loved exploring the castle grounds.
R. W.
Great fun, lots to see and do. Talk by the Anglo Saxon medicine lady was fascinating and brilliantly done. Spectacular views and some lovely things to eat and drink. Plenty of space and loads to explore. A great place to visit for all ages!
M. S.
Beautiful old castle. Lovely artifacts and family possessions displayed. Well sign posted and guide near entrance very knowledgeable. Gift shop inside and two tea rooms open. Not suitable for disabled due to steps and sloping pathways but expected at a castle.Well worth a visit
s. s.
Admired from outside a few times on walks along the beach so decided to visit. Reasonable admission price although sadly no concessions for seniors. Beautiful buildings, beautiful views and interesting displays. I especially enjoyed the Battle of Britain display and all the wicked weapons and armour! All in all and enjoyable couple of hours spent.
C. B.
Very dog friendly, but don't think you should pay full price, when you cannot access all areas with dogs, but still a great day out.
m. g.
One of the best castles we have ever visited, the views from the castle over the beach were stunning. Would highly recommend
C. T.
Beautiful day for a walk to Bamburgh Castle and along the beach, stunning views from Farne Islands to Holy island 😎
L. M.
It's a proper castle with heaps of history and feature in novels. There beach is long and sandy. The cafe good is to notch. The only improvement I would like to see, would be if they could open up the top of the Keep. It's always lovely to go up spiral staircases in Castles and get the view from the top.
R. P.
The views on the drive up to the castle were stunning and the castle itself was beautiful.
We went with children and there was a viking experience on which wasn't great. We had to pay for it to on top of our entry fee.
Overall a lovely day out!
n. p.
It was amazing. we enjoyed every minute. Amazing views of the town and the beach.
S. F.
Imposing structure right on the coast. Not the best value sightseeing attraction in my opinion. Some interesting things in the state rooms to see but just felt a bit lacklustre after the 5 mile walk we took along the coast to get there. Also you HAVE to pay the entry fee to get to the cafe inside as was explained to me by the slightly grumpy member of staff. Still worth a visit if you like castles (like I do) but there are better ones around this area. Just my opinion.
J. B.
This castle is a must see if you are visiting nearby, lots to see and lots of information to take in. Very well kept and good to see the changes that were made over the years with pictures showing how it was previously before the renovations in 1901. Stunning views over looking the neighbouring village and beach.
M.
Fantastic day out.great castle and very enjoyable.only downside was the food.v expensive.and the coffee was awful
G. C.
What an absolutely brilliant day we had here. A great walk on the beach and finish off with a picnic. Free parking 5 minutes away with dog friendly pubs. Well worth a visit to this part of the UK.
C. H.
Visited the site with my two GT. Grandchildren aged eleven and thirteen.
Like all children of these ages they are like sponges soaking up historical information from the past.
Excellent customer service and care from the staff at Bamburgh, a delightful day had by all.
Well worth the visit.
J. F.
So much to see. Although a cloudy day, the castle was beautiful outside and a walk around the grounds worthwhile. We also went inside and wow, really interesting and so much history. The staff were so good and very friendly. Highly recommended
M. G.
Nice day out bit steep to pay £4 to park as well as entrance fee! Castle already for Xmas, suffered some damage from storm arwen.
R. A.
Lots to see, no good for toddlers like ours who just wanted to run around without holding our hand and touch everything, climb everything and close as many doors as he could find. More for older children, or families with small babies that don't do much.
Lovely views, a large area to walk around, lovely structures and a couple of museums to explore.
N. C.
A nice castle, very windswept! Great seeing all different ages and rooms of the castle and exploring the outdoors afterwards. A must on the coast!
O. R.
One of if not the best castle you will probably see in England. You can hours wandering around appreciating the history and vastness of the building. The surrounding village and beach are also nice to visit
M. D.
We visited here today and it was an absolutely fantastic day. The grounds are well kept and spotless. The staff are friendly, welcoming and approachable. I wish I'd looked further into pricing for the annual tickets. I expected it to be alot so bought one entry, wish I'd done the annual for not much more so definitely don't make that mistake like I did. This treasure needs to be visited to be fully appreciated. The beach is an added bonus too
C. W.
Absolutely amazing place to take the family definitely worth a visit
R. S.
Fantastic views across Bamburgh and across to the Farne Islands. Admission price is about average but can get expensive if there are a few going. Would definitely recommend on a clear day for the views!
P. A.
Beautiful beach and the castle is very impressive and it's a great place to take the dog ,when we were there loads of people and dogs on the beach. But we tried two cafe's and we were very disappointed with the way they treat people wanting a coffee or tea and a sandwich, not very welcoming at all in fact one of the places they were very rude to a disabled person.
N. H.
Drive by on the road & this must be one of the most impressive Castles around. The grandeur of the site is stunning. Car parking is readily available opposite & in the vicinity. I have not been inside, that is reserved for my next visit. I will be back.
F. D.
An amazing Castle with so much history. Worth buying the annual visitor option if you plan to be in the area throughout the year. We have visited both at Christmas time and in the summer. The castle dressed foe Christmas is magical and fun. Would highly recommend a visit to this castle....note car parking is an extra cost and not included in your visit.
J. N.
Its a beautiful castle with amazing scenery! Definitely worth the visit. Portable toilets on carpark were untidy and unclean but there were many pubs and other places that have access to toilets.
J. M.
Great day out. 14.10 for an adult and 6.95 for kids entry fee. Quite hilly so be prepared wear appropriate shoes! Once inside castle there are lots of interesting things to see and information films on castle history. There are lots of stairs so be aware. Tea room on site and gift shop. Treated myself to a wee bottle of Lindisfarne Gin 13.00 for half bottle. Great view out to sea and plenty photo opportunities. You can also get married here, chapel on site. Definitely worth a visit.
C. G.
Absolutely amazing! If you are in the area and don’t visit bamburgh castle then you are missing out, you can spend a day in and around the area. Relatively cheap admission prices around the £12 per person, but you can explore the grounds for aslong as you wish. Car park bang out side the gateway or another car park at the bottom of the hill. Lovely little cafe inside, beautifully kept castle and grounds, excellent facilities and clean! If the weather is good, it’s a day we’ll spent, the bamburgh sands are a fun little adventure and the beach is on another level, if you didn’t know where you was, you’d think you was abroad with the softest white sand and the blue waves. Amazing!!!
D. K.
A stunning part of the country, the best thing about this particular castle is the cricket pitch in its grounds
S. F.
I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. We have visited a lot of castles but this one was different! Very well laid out and lots of information. Amazing views. Would recommend.
D. J.
Not only someone to go to see the whole of the coastline alongside Bamburgh, but also an incredibly interesting place to visit. The history of the castle is fascinating, from medieval times, to the war of the roses to present day. Definitely worth a visit.
j. n.
Loved the castle so full of history, dogs were allowed in only not in the state rooms which was no problem as we took it in turns to go inside. There were so much to see and listen to, there had a great armoury also. The price was very reasonable also. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable had a lovely walk around the battlements and around the museum, stopped at the stable bar for a snack and cup of tea, then took it in turns to go through the state rooms. What a fabulous day, highly recommend it
A. C.
Great tourist attraction. Lovely visit, if you park in the village the hill to walk up to the castle is very steep but you park at the foot of the castle entrance parking is £4 you can pay by card. Only £12.50 pa you get a map and there is a one way system in place because of covid, the staff were lovely and helpful and there is lots of hand sanitising stations all around. The history and inside the castle is gorgeous, great place to take kids, lots to see and learn. Would highly recommend a visit. We also visited the tea rooms and the food was great and priced reasonably too.
M. M.
I could come here just for the magnificent views both out towards the Farne islands, and inland.
Alot of the Castle was destroyed during the War of the Roses, but has been beautifully restored. The "King's Hall" is the highlight of the State rooms, particularly with it's magnificent timber roof made from 300 tons of Siamese Teak.
The musem detailing the life and achievements of William Armstrong who bought and restored the Castle is well worth a visit.
My only disappointment was the withdrawal of the audio sets which would guide you through each of the State rooms. Covid is given as the reason, however other places I've been to have retained their audio sets and sanitied them afterbeach persons use. I think they're just not prepared to do that here.
M. S.
Awe inspiring. As you drive towards the castle, it is very imposing. Beautiful setting for one of the country's most iconic sites. Take a walk on the wonderful beach and enjoy the views of the castle, Holy Island and the Farne Islands. S must see!
I. B.
A truly memorable day and also very educational. Its history and that of the family was amazing and the museum was an absolute education. Well done Banburgh although I would say the exit road down from the castle needs work, very rough and pot holes. Would still return though. Thanks for a great afternoon.
C. R.
Impressive castle on the Northumbria Coast. Plenty of history to see, both ancient and modern (up to WW2). Tack Room Cafe is reasonably priced with good food.
The current owners live in parts of the castle so not every where is accessible, but this isn't an issue.
A. A.
Majestic castle surrounded by beautiful sandy beach.
D. G.
The inside of the castle could be given a miss unless you love history but I definitely recommend parking at the castle and walking through the sand dunes to the beach. It gives you amazing views of the castle and the coast.
J. S.
Definitely value for money, staff are very friendly and there is alot to do from the stately rooms to the aviation museum. Make sure to look everywhere as there are alot of hidden gems.
P. N.
Been here twice and it's always been a wonderful experience. The castle itself is beautiful both from inside and outside. Lovely staff and most extraordinary views!
Definitely go for a walk on the beach and pop to the town for a lovely dinner. :)
E. A.
Nice place to visit, but if you are a fan of the Last Kingdom then unfortunately do not count on finding something there about the series or the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg or Uhtred Ragnarsson presented in the series. As for the tickets, I think they are a bit too expensive if you compare them to the costs of other castles from the National Trust for example and at this price, there is no parking and you have to pay £4.50 for it.
J. D.
Absolutely magnificent from the outside and beautiful view in all directions, but other than the Great Hall, it didn't really impress me that much to be honest. Staff were pleasant I should add. The castle is completely cashless and it does say this on their website.
M. K.
Bamburgh Castle is a wonderful place to visit. Unfortunately due to Covid the Castle inside is closed but its still a very impressive cliff sided Castle. The beaches are sandy, clean and unspoilt, which you can explore for miles. One of my favourite places to go too. Magical. Truly. Magical.
N. D.
Superb views of the castle, wonderful beach and sand dunes for the kids to play. Car park machines need some attention and so do the toilet facilities.
K. N.
Great place to spend the day. Lots of interesting facts and history
W. J.
Love this place! Not only the castle to look around, but miles of fantastic beach & dunes to walk and play. Good parking with shops, coffee shops & restaurants / pubs.
T. P.
Fantastic Castle, many things to see, kids loved it too.
B. L.
Very interesting place to visit but it has very steep paths and steps if you have a walking disability. Would recommend booking in advance as when we left there were at least 50 people queuing to buy tickets.
A. P.
Excellent place to visit. A beautiful venue.
K. E.
We had our wedding ceremony and drinks reception at Bamburgh Castle, and had a beautiful experience that we'll cherish forever.
For such a grand and spectacular venue, it is remarkable how intimate it could feel on our special day. Although we were a small group of 25 in total, we never felt swamped by the castle. All the areas we used were exclusively for us and the day was very well orchestrated so that guests stayed together in one place at a time.
Having a dedicated coordinator was vital for us, as we were organising from overseas, and needed someone very hands-on to make everything happen. We want to give a special mention to Karen, who was brilliant throughout. She was understanding of our needs, easy to communicate with, amenable to our requests and patient with our questions. In short, an absolute superstar.
The vast experience of the wedding team at Bamburgh Castle made us feel like we were in safe hands and could trust everything to flow smoothly. Although we were fortunate with the weather, Karen had any number of contingency plans for bad weather and access for guests with mobility issues. She managed to make everything happen seamlessly while also having a calm and grounded presence that any nervous bride or groom would welcome.
More generally, the staff around the castle are just so lovely and supportive. Everyone gave us very genuine congratulations too, which was a nice touch.
Our day was just magical and we couldn't have wished for a better location.
Thank you to all who helped make it happen.
U. K.
Gorgeous place and I have to say the best kids activity book. My son loved the dragon trail. I wasn't sure at first it was worth the cost but it entertained him there and still continues to a week later
S. C.
Stunning from a distance, but expensive up close. Bamburgh is just amazing as you approach it in the car or bike. It makes such an imposing mark on the landscape. It was almost prohibitively expensive for a family though which was such a shame.
P. S.
You would not have imagined that most of what we see today is only 125 years old. It looks from a distance like it has all been there for centuries. Only by visiting can you fully appreciate the full story and history of the Castle. Plenty to see so allow lots of time.
H. S.
Kids disappointed as we didn't see a ghost! Apart from that a fab time was had. Maybe I'll bring a sheet with me next time 😉 …
S. B.
Amazing historical gem in the heart of Northumberland. Ample paid parking near the castle and free parking in town. Tickets stop being sold at 4PM as the castle closes at 5PM. Beautiful views overlooking the sand dunes and ocean. A must-see for history lovers!
E. !.
An amazing day out, amazing views of the beach, the Farne Islands and the village of Bamburgh. Very nice food from the Tea Rooms and very reasonably priced. If you're up in Northumbria or close by, definitely don't miss out on visiting this beautiful place.
Parking was also an added bonus at £4 for all day at the castle parking.
M. R.
Great place to visit, only negative is the theme inside was more about the people rather than the history of the castle.
C. M. Y.
A beautiful example of a still lived in Castle of the hereditary family, Armstrong. A lovely beach adjacent to the castle! A great day out!
J. W.
My 11 year old son really enjoyed it. An Anglo Saxon reenactment was there and he was chatting with all the characters learning loads. I've never heard him say wow as much as he did today 🤣 . My husband and I also fully enjoyed our experience at the castle too. Views are absolutely amazing. 😍 …
R. B.
A very dramatic setting. We very much enjoyed looking round the house. The beach was stunning, very clean and well cared for. I don't think I have been on such clean beaches as I have been on in Northumbria.
P. B.
I love an old castle, but I'd much rather they'd focussed on the historical people who lived there between the 10th and 17th centuries, rather than some 20th Century Lord Armstrong's vanity project. His collection of art from overseas is all fine, but irrelevant to the venue. Don't get me started on the aircraft.
K. D.
Beautiful castle. Route through state rooms well planned. Lots of information, though some narrow doors. Stunning views across to the Farne Islands.
M. S.
An authentic castle with a museum and cafés. Beautiful location.
r. t.
Great place steeped in history well worth the money highly recommended. And a thank you to the guy in control of the car park he could see my wife used a stick to walk and got us a place near to the top so it wasn't far to walk for her, really nice of him. Thank you.
J. L.
Definitely worth the visit, beautiful views of the castle from the bottom, lots of options for walks (town, dunes, beach), converted stables to sit hide from the rain, dogs allowed to the grounds and few more places (probably most dog friendly place on our holiday).
Inside of the castle was well looked after, more modern than imagined.
Must visit a cafe, such a nice coffee and scones
Weather cut our stay short, didn't stay outside for long, but will try to visit again in the future
A. C.
Wonderful Christmas decor of ,"12 Days of Christmas". Magical!!
W. C.
Beautiful castle and well worth seeing. The only fault was dogs were only aloud in the grounds so a small reduction in price would I'm sure be appreciated by dog owners.
A. H.
Great place to visit. Me and my daughter loved it nice open space outside the castle to run around and have fun. Also as a park and the beach right next to the castle.
C. W.
Absolutely stunning castle. We paid £14 per adult to get in which I thought was a lot of money as we could only walk around the grounds as we had dogs however this prices includes entry inside castle! Would be better if there were two charges, one for grounds and castle and the other for just grounds. Stunning views with a great walk through sand dunes to get to the beach. There's two cafes, one dog friendly in the stables area and one in the main clock tower to the castle that isn't dog friendly. Staff are really friendly and lovely to explore the surroundings
C. E.
Great castle in a stunning, unspoilt village. Good informative tour guide. Parking at castle sometimes has spaces as people generally park at bottom car park.
L. M.
Could do with designated Blue Badge parking spaces/wheelchair friendly car park. It was a little over priced but worth it in my opinion just for the views and the beach. The staff were really friendly and helpful especially to my Mum in her wheelchair. My photo of the the no parking sign and the snails made us all giggle.
C. Z.
Beautiful and huge castle with lots to see inside. Stunning views of the beach. Just wish there had been a bit more to explain the history of the castle.
K. B.
Absolutely fantastic place, utterly beautiful! The staff were so friendly and you can really tell they love the place!
M. B.
Excellent place, highly recommended for families.
J. T.
Beautifully decorated for Christmas. The staff are very polite and friendly and the outside stable eating are is great. Would highly recommend a visit to Bamburgh Castle the views are breath taking
D. E.
My favourite of all the places I visited this week. Very authentic and not over the top. Lots of people as to be expected. Lots of parking. £5 for 3 hours. Well worth it as there is so much to see.
G. M.
Breathtaking! Absolutely amazing place, beautiful grassy dunes between the castle and the sea so we had our picnic there. It was too beautiful to go inside so we will save that for a rainy day. We just walked around the outside and spent time on the beach instead.
L. T.
No cash policy at the castle at all which threw us but we got around it! It is a remarkable place and well worth a visit. Bear in mind, it is not the best place for disabled users, not because of the help on offer but because of the place it is! There are steep pathways and stairs. Lots of stairs! It's a castle. It's amazing as are the staff and the food in lovely cafes and a gift shop to top off. Try the honey. Its delish. I nearly forgot to mention the views! Oh! The wind lol. I wonder if it ever stops blowing?
S. H.
Went to the beach at Bamburgh Castle, parking along the road and walking through the dunes. Beautiful clean sandy beach with great views of the castle coquet island and Holy Island. Can walk round the right hand side of the castle through the dunes to the large green area. Walked up the path to the castle car park with more great views. Didn't pay to go into the castle as had our dog with us. Plenty of dog friendly cafes and pubs in the village.
J. T.
I've seen Bamburgh Castle in the distance while travelling on the A1 and always wanted to go. But we didn't actually go to the castle but had a walk through the sand dunes and on the beach.
C. W.
Must be one of the most iconic, well preserved castles in the country, its reputation is massive and it delivers, you could spend literally hours walking around this castle and still not see it all.
W. E.
Wow factor inside and especially out 🥳. Great views from the beach. The village is also beautiful with the Grace Darling memorial in the church there. Definitely the best castle & village in Northumberland …
G. F.
A great place to visit and understand the history of the castle, as well as seeing the fantastic range of artefacts on display, especially the weapons! The visit is let down by the expensive entry tickets, which sadly puts me off from rushing back again to visit.
S. W.
This Castle is spectacular, so interesting. Not expensive to enter, plenty to do for hours. And the bea h below is stunning. The village itself has plenty of places to eat as well. A must if in the area.
M. T.
Awesome beaches, local cricket matches on a Sunday, free to watch. Lots of good value high quality places to eat and snack, most reasonably priced. 10 minutes from A1.
M. P.
The castle itself is great, really picturesque! The exhibit in the first state room is great, but its a such shame that so much of the Castles history is missing in favoure of learning about the current owners.
But this is still a 5 star review because of the Last Kingdom tour, the guide was amazing, and made it really fun and he actually taught us some of the history of the castle.
D. M.
Great day out for the children. Only reason I drop a star is because I felt the Armstrong & aviation museum could have been much more interesting - barely telling the story of the reason the family own the castle. The castle keep and stayed rooms are very interesting though.. perhaps being an engineer myself skews my opinion but I was very much looking forward to the engineer himself story as much as the castle. I recvomend this place highly, but would suggest you take a picnic, as the food available on site is pretty expensive.
K. H.
Interesting historic site. Tours could have been more interactive. Make sure to bring you own food and drink. Cafe not well stocked and very expensive
J. A.
Fantastic castle. Absolutely loved it.
F. C.
I like my castles but didn't feel this one was up there with the best. Pretty busy when we there so didn't get a chance to spend much time at the exhibits.
R. S.
The staff were very helpful to me as a wheelchair user. There was a clear and logical presentation of the history, something sadly lacking in another castle nearby. I was fully informed of what I could access, and the video showed areas I could not access, and was extremely informative.
T. K.
This is one of the largest English castles. It is owned by the Armstrong family. It is huge, and faces the North Sea. It has a lot of historical exhibits as well as more contemporary stuff such as well-appointed dining rooms and other living areas. Views from the outside are amazing. It is well-maintained and tickets are reasonable.
Do visit once if you can, but don't miss the nearby attractions such as the boat trips from Seahouses and the Alnwick Castle and gardens.
T. P.
I found the ostentatious wealth of previous owners that was on display upsetting. How many china dinner services do you NEED? I guess their tenants, and the poor people they saw as charity cases - but who weren't actually raised out of poverty - felt really good about knowing the people in the castle lived like that.
M. 8.
Beautiful setting on the coast.
parking up at the castle and also plenty at the bottom.
reasonably priced to enter. definitely worth a visit atleast once.
E. R.
Amazing place worth visiting. Breath taking views, kids had so much fun and we enjoyed the castle and the views. The castle itself is also a great experience with the ancient market where people were dressed up a pheasants showing how life looked like in the olden days. Amazing!
A.
The location of this castle truly is like something out of a fairy tale, right next to the sea , amazing..£14 to get in which I thought was a bit much but glad I did as it's fascinating inside, the wooden beamed grand hall is mind blowing !!
A. J.
The staff off Bamburgh Castle are so welcoming and very very helpful being a disabled driver they help you park as close to the entrance as possible.
There is only some sections available to wheelchair users but that area is undoubtedly the most beautiful area of the whole castle,.
This is an amazing gem for Northumberland and everybody who visits the county must visit.
J. B.
Wonderful place, take the kids, take your mom, take your neighbours. Take your time.

Bamburgh Castle is a lovely place. Not the biggest castle and there are a lot of steep slopes, but many interesting displays and history, and some lovely food in the cafe.

Beautiful property but weren't able to visit due to them filming the latest Indiana Jones movie. But enjoyed some of the special effects whilst sitting on the beach. But be warned. Park in the correct area of the car park at the bottom. We parked next to other cars and all received a parking ticket and then realised it was designated for coaches.
M. R.
Easy parking available.lovely views from the battlements.a well thought out route flows through the castle ensuring you don't miss any thing.there are some good interactive items and video presentations.

Nice break away with the wife in our camper van

Great castle to visit, plenty to see inside, loads of information about the history of the Castle.
Cafe and pop up cart for food/drink. Toilets too.
Visit the beach afterwards too..

We did not go into the castle but walked around the castle hill, the dunes and the beach where you can make stunning pictures of the castle. Bamburgh castle aka Bebbanburg is a must see place if you watched "the Last Kingdom".

Stunning castle, stunning beach. Great tea cafe in the cricket pavilion. My favourite part of our few days in Northumbria
M. S.
Stunning castle with fascinating history. Also fabulous sandy beach to walk along backed by sand dunes. Village of Bamburgh has cafes and restaurants.
S. M.
Nice view from castle, bad opening times, unfriendly staff
A. S.
Lovely castle and a good walk around just a shame that it's not open fully yet.
Don't park in the carpark at the bottom as it's quite expensive at £4.50 for 3hrs but if u drive upto the castle there is a carpark up there for £4 all day and it has access to the beach aswell.

Lovely place on Northumberland coast. Easy access to miles of dog friendly beaches, good car parking, shops cafes and pubs. Castle is great building.
C. L.
We went today with a lady we support who is wheelchair dependent. We were shown a parking place closer to the castle. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They couldn't do enough for us. Thank you

In such a stunning and moody location. Will definitely return. Visited just the beach and outside of castle with breathtaking views and walks. Great!

Beautiful castle. Great views, awesome beach.

Castle is well looked after , cafés were good . Only down side was if you have a dog , you can't go into the main house but your still charged Full price entrance

Breathtaking. The views are amazing. One way sea, the other fields. The castle looks magnificent as you approach. I cannot wait to return.

A fantastic day out lots of interesting facts in the castle wuth interactive thing as well. Its an independent castle Adults cost is 14 10 each well worth the money. Lovely gardens and access to a woundful beach.
P. H.
Iconic. This is definitely worth the entry fee. Loads of stately rooms which blow your mind. Love the one way system and availability of staff. Don't forget the Armstrong museum, extremely well researched and historic, specially he ww2 planes that ditched locally and retrieved
I. D.
Loved the facility for the Wedding - incredibly grateful to Kathryn for hanging around to drive the golf buggy for those of us who can't walk well on the flat - the hill of the Castle would've been impossible.
S. S.
A mighty impressive fortress set in a lovely location, alot to see and the area is just quality.
Make sure you also check out lindisfarne while you are in the area.
So much fascinating history in the castle and area.

Beautifully restored castle. Wheelchair access is limited because it is a historic building. The views are beautiful from the castle
B. B.
Even in Windy weather; Its Stunning in Beautiful Northumberland, many good angles to get amazing pictures. After you can enjoy the beautiful beach

Awesome castle right on the beach. Unfortunately couldn't go in due to it being closed for filming of the new indiana Jones movie! It's an amazing sight seen for miles around .
F. O. A.
A good day out and very welcoming. I wish they'd use some of the abundant ivy to screen off their bins though - they stick out for miles and ruin an otherwise great photo.

A pleasure as always, made even better by the themed Xmas display, based on the 12 days of Xmas.
Best Castle to visit in the country, with stunning views, sand dunes and a superb beach.
W. H.
Great day out with a gorgeous view and walk along the coast. The castle is breathtaking and has a lot of history. More modern than most which is different to take in. If you like inventions and aviation this is a good place to visit as William Armstrong was a pioneer of his time.

Loads of rooms to see which is great. Loads of history and very impressive castle. In comparison to Alnwick, the visitor experience was not as good.
C. H.
Fantastic place, staff are very helpful as we had my farther with us who's disabled. The staff arranged for us to park inside the Castle grounds so it was easy to set up the small mobility scooter. However parking for this is limited on a first come first served basis. Once all set up the staff helped by opening a small side door for the scooter to access the kings hall and wow what a feast for the eye's. There are steps after the kings hall but there is a film screen set up for my farther to watch while we explored the other rooms. All the staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and can't wait to come back again.

12 days of Christmas event was wonderfull

Great place to visit....interesting history through the ages upto present day and info about its owners and benefactors making it the Castle it is today. Tea rooms do good food, a lot of the cakes are homemade and very tasty. The sea views from the Castle are superb....take a walk through the sand dunes to the vast expanse of flat hard sand and walk off some of the tearoom cake !! Bamburgh village also pleasant to have a stroll through, a nice drink outside the Victoria Hotel and walk down to the green where the Castle fills your vision from left to right....a great day out.

Fantastic building. The history, the views the building itself. This is a relatively new castle built around and restored around ancient parts of the Northumberland original castle area as it was. It stands out proud on the hill and is easily seen from any direction as you enter the village.
Good parking up towards the castle and next to the road allow easy access to this historic building.
Fantastic views over the sandy beach, which also make for a great walk or just to sit down a gasp at the sea in front of you or take in the sun.
The village is best to walk into parking is very tight. However some grand places to eat drink or just meander though.

As Indian Jones was being filmed we couldn't go in. But a stunning castle.lobely cricket ground with Castle in backdrop and a fantabulous beach . Great pubs with good food . Ample car parking .
S. R.
Great visit, interesting and lovely castle in an equally pretty location. Great time to visit for me as not to busy.
Worth a visit
S. m.
One of my favourite castles
s. j.
Dog friendly in most of the castle not the state rooms though. Didn't spoil it for us. Just took turns to dog sit!!!
F. C.
Beach is wonderful. Car Park mobbed. Come early staff don't care. You have to find your own space and then pay £4 by card. One on the beach and dunes there is space for all.
G. 6.
Well preserved historic castle with a good story to tell. Informative displays and interesting exhibitions. Lovely tea room and great views across the village, coast and to Lindisfarne.
E. B.
Massive castle, in very good nick. The state rooms are well worth a look, especially the main hall. A bit expensive to get in, but I thought it was worth it
A. M.
Amazing setting and breathtaking views. The castle itself is ok but got the sense you don't get to see much of it. Engineering Museum cld be good but needs more interesting displays. Just a slight feeling I was expecting more for our money 😕. But to come up to North East and not see it wld be an error. …
E. A.
Extremely well kept and taken care of. Very informative and friendly staff. Great views and plenty of historical information. Nice gift shop.
C. U.
Castle is fabulous! Wonderful artifacts and beautiful veiws. A perfect day out. Easy to find and plenty of parking.
G. L.
Fantastic castle, walked round the outside the night before while it was all lit up and went inside the following morning. Really enjoyed looking at all the artifacts and items covering the years it's been standing. Great views of the beach and coast line up to Holy Island and Lindisfarne castle, which we visited the previous day.
The only negative point was the gift shop and cafe are card only so couldn't get any souvenirs or food and drink as I didn't have a card only cash.
Luckily the pub just up the road had normal servic and benefitted from our custom.
J. G.
Went to see the 12 days of Christmas display. It was well worth the visit. It was imaginative and in keeping with the season . We went on Christmas eve and it really set up.our Christmas.
C. P.
Always a great visit. Best to arrive early as car parks fill up quickly. There are ten dedicated motorhome parking spots in the car park below the castle. Superb beach walks with the imposing fortress as a backdrop.
J. T.
A nice little village. Food for any budget. £5 parking for 3 hours in long term. Castle is immense and impressive.
L. D.
Lovely place for a visit, but beware if it gets very windy the castle closes, luckily we were staying not too far away.
D. J.
Been up today for last hour lush walking round not been in years love a bit of history even the kids liked it
P. C.
Always worth a visit, although £4 for parking plus £8pp for access to the grounds (covid rules) was a bit steep, especially when there's really not a lot to see besides the views.
C. D.
Spectacular castle with scenic views from every direction. Easy parking. Well worth a visit.
v. f.
Great Castle to visit, full of history, lovely views, a tea room and cafe, you can also take your own picnic, toilets were clean, there are disabled toilets.
L. P.
A strategic landmark but we found the interior disappointing. It is mostly William Armstrong's collection of items, apart from a few mainly Victorian. The shop has lots of items but the display area is not very exciting. They need to have a look at some of the National Trust shops.
M. D.
Nice restoration and maintenance. Well laid out in most areas. However museum was cluttered and hopelessly near impenetrable. Good was good and priced reasobable
A. B.
I love this place. It looks like a fairy tale. Been around only, but surely next Time will make it in, as well. The comfort that this place brings now, remind me about how much England is rooted in priceless history and unending battles. The sea that surrounds this castle is gorgeous and the sand goes everywhere. It gets a bit rusty when on the beach and windy, then you must watch your eyes from the sand. The parking is free as for electric cars can easily charge their power. No free parking space. An ice cream man is waiting for the curious children to pop to his van, though he may be waiting now for 2021 summer.
P. L.
Beautiful beach and scenery...didn't get to go inside the castle as we had our dog with us... but Beautiful from the outside... a photographer's dream regardless of the weather. Only downside was how much of a tourist trap it is. We went mid-week and the streets were lined with cars, which kind of ruined the quaint feel of the surroundings.
H. C.
This visit to Bamburgh didn't involve going inside the castle. Beautiful coastal walks around the castle and nice green space in front of the castle to walk around and sit and admire the views. Bamburgh village is also really lovely with plenty of places to stay, eat and drink. Public conveniences in the village.
A. P.
Have lived in the North East for many years and only walked on Bamburgh beach and viewed the Castle from a distance. We didn't realise you could visit orbthere was a Collection. There is a lot to see , and quite a mixture of artefacts and styles but it is very interesting. We didn't have time to visit the Armstong Aviation Museum at the end ,which would need at least an hour. Very nice and helpful Volunteers and two Cafés!
