Reviews of St. John's Church Tower

Sadly this church has been abandoned for some time and would require major renovations just to make it safe to enter.

Came across this purely by accident . Parked up and walked round , no info boards , and not a huge amount on the Internet. Originally built in the mid 19th century the remainder of the tower was pulled down due to neglect around 1947. The tower being left purely as a waypoint for planes. Interesting but not great.

As far as I can see, this building is the ruined spire of a church. There does not appear to be access to the tower - possibly it is "unsafe".
I am not sure how better to review a building which stands in the landscape. It is certainly not worth a special trip to visit; it is probably not even worth stopping for whilst you drive along the road. Simply notice it, and pass on.

Old abandoned church tower. Spooky yet interesting. Shame you can't get inside.

I like the story of how this tower came to be standing, saved, even though the rest of the church was demolished. Appreciated by its local community - and apparently some airplane pilots too.

I Geo cache and this place has a virtual cache on it , it's a building worth visiting standing all alone, check the history out too

Rebuilt by Hardwick in 1851, the church was demolished in 1949 leaving just the tower which now stands alone in a clump of trees.
