Reviews of Walsingham Abbey
Absolutely beautiful, so many snowdrops around. Its like a blanket over the woodland. The ruins are worth a look, lots of areas to explore the views and take in the views and listen to the woodpeckers. Lots of benches around to sit and reflect. There are toilets on site and the museum and a tiny shop. Its very muddy so wearing suitable footwear is key.
The snowdrops and Abbey grounds are a sight to behold. Been twice this year and it is a place of beauty and solace best taken slowly to take it all in. Some great picturesque bridges over the river and the woodland walk is breathtaking. Ideal for all...
Interesting but short as there's not a lot left to see. Spent some time in 'the crypt' reading the history of the Abbey and village. Do walk around the village as there's more to see and drop into cafe on corner for delicious cream tea.
A must to visit! Such a breathtaking place, dog friendly (no poo bag bins anywhere only ordinary bin in town). Lots of cafes in town to snack on. Please visit. Also its £6 entry fee
Lovely grounds, vast woodland to walk through, a few tranquil places to sit and relax.
The Abbey ruins look beautiful in the middle of the lawn.
We visited to see the snowdrop walks. An absolutely stunning display with what must be several acres of snowdrops and aconites as well as a small museum and garden areas. Walsingham is well worth a visit. It is a beautiful village with the only Anglican shrine.
Lovely grounds to walk around.
Lots of scenery
£6 entrance fee, money goes towards maintenance.
Worth visiting
Stunning grounds and gardens.
Most helpful and informative staff and the “Time Line” display in the Crypt is an obvious work of love showing not only the progress linked into the events of our nation from the “11th Century” to current completed year of 2021.
My only wish was that this timeline was available on- line.
Next time in these parts I’ll put a whole day aside (if not more) to visit Walsingham Village, the Abbey and the surrounding area.
This has to be seen to be believed, the shrine is amazing. Great walks along marked paths plenty of history and streets full of old buildings
Although a nice peaceful place, I have to be honest and say there is not much there. The grounds is large but not overly so, it takes about an 1-1/2 hours to walk around them. The grounds themselves are pleasant but nothing special as far as landscaping or layout is concerned.
As for the ruins, there is not much of them but then that is what happens over time.
Very nice and peaceful location. There is a cost but its worth it just to know the grounds can be maintained. The staff in the ticket office were extremely friendly and helpful, making sure all info was at hand and available.
Fascinating atmospheric place. Great to explore as a family and learn about its history.
Lovely to walk through the grounds of Walsingham Abbey, enjoy the peacefulness.
Lovely walk around the Abbey with my 3 children. Entrance cost £11.50 for all of us which I thought was reasonable in today’s world. A free map of the grounds was included in the fee. Everything was accessible with a pram even a small museum if you’re able to leave the pram outside. We had a picnic under the trees.
Parking was on a large car park costing £4 for 4 hours which was a 2 min walk away from the entrance to the Abbey. Lovely Farm Shop in town too.
Tranquil peaceful has a feeling about it what I can't explained...lovely walks.
Good value for money as entrance includes Shirehall Museum.
Have a walk around the visit as well
Peaceful place . I love it for its history, which is a hobby of mine. The grounds are beautifully kept and last time I visited, in spring, the grounds were a vision of primroses. The ruins of the Anglican Abbey are stunning and about a mile away the Roman Catholic shrine should not be missed either. The Farm Shop just around the corner from the Abbey, is one of the best in Norfolk.
A peaceful place to visit if you want a contemplative walk. I saw a pheasant by the river too, but he was camera shy
In the centre of the village, close to the main parking.
There is a small charge to visit and payment by contact less.
Well marked walks around the ruins and river, into the small wood.
Worth a visit if you are in the area.
The is such a delightful sight. A tranquil site, far from main roads and busy life. This is a historic and a religious place of Catholic worship.Founded , destroyed and restored. Visit our lady of Walsingham church(Anglican) for more information. Two minutes walking distance from the Walsingham Abbey.
Lovely grounds, excellent little museum, friendly staff, good signage and explanations. Need to arrive at least an hour before closing as the more distant walks close earlier. Village well worth walking around. Shrine to Our Lady of Walsingham and other historic buildings.
Absolutely stunning. February is the perfect time to visit as the grounds are carpeted in snowdrops. Well maintained walks, a beautiful ruined abbey and a cosy, informative museum including old courtroom! Great day out - the young ones enjoyed it too.
We visited for the snowdrop walk in Jan. These were very impressive, unfortunately without the snowdrops the rest is a little disappointing. There would appear to be a lack of development apart from the main ruin. Its pleasent dont get me wrong but walking the complete park and seeing everything its an hour at best.
Most beautiful place, very serene and peaceful and the snowdrops are absolutely stunning.
A nice visit to see the snowdrops, good spell of sunshine but very cold
Wonderful, tranquil historic site to just sit, wander and be contemplative. In the very heart of Walsingham.
Very pretty Went to see the snowdrops and wasn't disappointed. Had a lovely walk around the grounds.
Divine place to be good food lovely staff very peaceful and beautiful gardens roll on next year x
Ot was okay, but slightly underwhelmed and not sure it's worth the £5+ entry. We had a picnic in the grounds but not lots to see.
Place of Christian pilgrimage for both Protestant & Catholic faiths, although I don't get all the paraphernalia there was a peace around the place. Photos from the village
Beautiful place to walk around. The remains of the abbey are stunning and the walk through the woods are lovely especially when the snowdrops are out.
We are HHA members so entry was free but if I don't think I'd have paid the entry fee. There's not much to see now and not many information boards. I do understand it is a very important place to some, but as a general visitor I'd suggest going to Binham Priory.
Really interesting place many religious shops in the village, St Mary's Church is well worth a visit along with the shrine to Mary.
We had a lovely day yesterday at the Abbey, the grounds are lovely and so is the village.
It's worth a visit, interesting. Had a wonderful time ambling around the gardens.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Very well kept. Great historical site
Beutiful Abby with a nice scenic walking trail through forrest and flower meadows
Lovely snowdrop walk. Well worth the visit.
Little Walsingham is a step back in time, even for North Norfolk. The architecture offers Medieval, Tudor and Georgian, often next to each other. The light Railway from the outskirts of Wells next the Sea offers additional interest, but the main attraction has the be the Abbey and gardens which are famous for the snow drops which cover the woodland floor in Feb and March each year. These are followed by Bluebells which extend the season. The pilgrimage centers are also worth visiting and one offers a great option for lunch. The eateries have not been "North Norfolk-ed" yet but offer good value English standard dishes with no frills. Try the large barn farm shop and surrounding smaller enterprise shops which have sprung up around it. Parking can be difficult in full summer and check there is not a pilgrimage weekend, if you want to take it slow this is the must see village in the area. Allow 2-3 hours for a walk around and a walk round the abbey ruins. Dog Friendly in the abbey grounds.
Lovely place for walking, nice and quiet. Not all paths are good for wheelchair users, hard to push.
Lovely to explore with the dog, makes a pleasant change to be allowed to take the dog to this sort of place.
Very enjoyable few hours, with very knowledgeable and helpful staff.
It one of the most important places to visit I love it
A really interesting day out. Great history and so peaceful. Good value. Do go and see the cells though. Really worthwhile.
Really lovely place to visit. Thought it was a bit expensive at £6 each for what is essentially a walk through woodland! Plus they don't have parking so you have to use the Pay and Display.
A great place to enjoy the beautiful snow drops and lovely walks. Great for early evening low light photos.
Nice grounds to walk around and very reasonable entry fee.
Had a lovely couple of hours walking around the Abby grounds in the autumn sunshine. We then drove to the Creake Abbey farm shop for a takeaway coffee and sandwich, Delicious!
Very busy on a really cold and blustery day. Parking is limited we parked 5 minutes away on a residential road. Snow drop walk was lovely at £6.00 pp. The Shrine shop had lovely glass ornaments and plates and lots of religious items. Black Lion Hotel food was lovely, you must try thier burgers.
Wonderfully kept abbey ground (just the arch remains) we went for the seasonal snowdrop walk, you certainly get your money's worth of snowdrops! Dogs allowed on leads. But if a plant shop and museum too.
Very impressive ruins with forest walks too
Beautiful grounds and at snowdrop type really spectacular. Very friendly staff. Huge grounds with lots to see and so peaceful. I had the Gardener’s world 2 for 1 ticket which we used there, so even better value. Well worth buying the Gardener’s World magazine with the ticket for inside when it comes out early Spring. I've save so much visiting many gardens this year.
Not only the Abbey to view but also lovely grounds to walk in the woods and thru the meadows, took us approx 90 mins to have a look round
Beautiful, peaceful place for a visit, especially when the snowdrops/daffodils are in flower
This wonderful landmark has been changed since Covid 19 struck. It is not possible to take a drink of holy water, it must now be bought in a bottle. There was a service being broadcast over the PA but nothing live. We lit a candle for my parents. It is also possible to leave a prayer for a loved one. Very ancient monument that has attracted many many people over the centuries. Although it is a catholic shrine but nearby there is chapels for other denominations such as Russian orthodox. There is a nice coffee shop selling a good range of cake. Well worth a visit.
Stunning have not been for about 3 years but every time I go the snowdrops have multiplied it just gets better every year. We were lucky with the weather this year and both teashops we went to were lovely.
Well worth a visit, the Abbey grounds are lovely!
A peaceful sanctuary set in beautiful grounds. Well worth a visit while the snowdrop are out.
Nice place to visit if you are religious person
Extensive grounds and Romantic ruins. Perhaps a bit pricey.
Very peaceful and beautiful grounds to walk around
Beautiful Walk between abundant snowdrops
Really interesting place and well worth a visit. Parking can be a challenge and be careful.walking around with kids as the pavements are narrow or non existent.
Lots to see though and it's well presented and makes for a very thoughtful visit.
A wonderful and peaceful place to contemplate life
A great display of snowdrops in late Jan early Feb. Grounds are good for walking. Abbey can be used as a starting place for walks around the area
Wonderful experience. Visited for the Pilgrimage and found it very enlightening. Visited from the Parish of Brentwood from Basildon.
Quiet oasis in an historic small town. The Abbey is quite ruined but it was clearly enormous in its hay day. The entrance charge £5.50 is appropriate considering the current condition. Do go to the Cript to see the 950 year Time Line which summaries the key historic events.
Serious shrine for All Christian faiths.
Drop dead gorgeous spot in the right weather
Simple. Unassuming. Peaceful. Lovely place to walk around grounds with the ruin and few curiosities.
Fabulous!!! Snowdrops were fantastic
A very pieceful place and village to visit with fascinating religious history. A well worth visit as also the building architecture is all part of the history and journey.
Would certainly visit again when in the area.
Fascinating history. Glorious snowdrops. Worth a visit!
Great walk and fun with family.
Interesting display of the courtroom and local history with much more historic things to see in the Abbey ruins and woodland walks.
The abbey was okay but only really a three star, ruins are always limited and require the visitor to imagine to much.
The village is very pretty and very unusual. The whole village is like a religious shrine as it used to be one of the top 4 pilgrimage sites in the world!!
Every shop seems to he selling religious artefacts, churches everywhere and even a lot of the bandb are advertised for pilgrims. Good pub in the centre to watch the world go by
Nowhere else like it in the UK, well worth a visit and you can pop to Wells next the sea afterwards to come back to reality 🤣
Little of the Abbey still to see, the entrance was £5.50 each which felt was overpriced.
Lovely grounds and plenty of history. Snowdrop walk was fantastic on such a beautiful sunny day. Only minus was the lack of café within the confines of the grounds, which meant leaving to find refreshments when there was a lot to see and enjoy.
A very peaceful place. Lovely walk round the gardens. It's surprising how quick the time goes in here. The pack bridge was being renovated, so will have to go back and see it again. The village was very quiet as well.
Beautiful snowdrops walk, the sun was shining, it was nature at it's best. Massive bonus that dogs were allowed on leads only. I wonder if it's as beautiful once snowdrops season has passed.....will definitely be back to find out.
A beautiful walk through the grounds and woodland with some ancient relics to see en route. Shame we didn't have the best weather to enjoy it more but we'll be back next year!
So peaceful and beautiful
A delightfully calm atmosphere in a tranquil and informative setting. The food was delicious and they were careful to ensure all my allergies were accounted for. I had the seafood salad which was tasty and freshly prepared.
I will be going again.
Lovely garden, with some meadows, woodlands and more formal gardens. The Abbey ruins are quite spectator in these surroundings. There is a little museum just before you go into the gardens which give information about the history of the place.
Beautiful during the snow drop season.
Beautiful grounds, lots of blooms in spring plus river walks. Very pretty. Lots of history. Smallish museum. No parking onsite but nearby parking (3min walk) 70p per hour. Note, closed November- January, open weekends only February, and open daily April -October. Situated in quaint historical town.
Great pics of our hen do! Beautiful meadows !
Beautiful place to walk round
Fascinating history of "England's Nazareth". Beautiful, historic grounds.
Lovely short woodlands walk. Otherwise uneventful.
friendly staff awesome grounds snow drops snow drops everywhere spent most of the day there
Brilliant snow drops lovely walk threw woods
Beautiful snowdrops. Quite busy in the village but almost nowhere open for a coffee or anything on a Tuesday in February
Beautiful day Lovely pilgrimage Amazing people we enjoyed
An exceptional snowdrop display in lovely surroundings.
A beautiful, tranquil, well-tended garden with some remains of the famous medieval abbey. Unlike some ruined abbeys, there is not much left here. However, it's a lovely spot for contemplation (especially if you're not there at the same time as a few coach loads of pilgrims, who can descent in their thousands).
Went there today to do the Snowdrop walk. Weather was not great but as usual the flowers are spectacular.
Tha fact thst is is 600 years old made me feel like a toddler at 1/10 of it.
Beautiful grounds, lovely walk.
A beautiful place full of history and ancient peace. Well worth a visit and very reasonable admission price. Was able to use my 2 for 1 BBC Gardeners World magazine voucher here.
Did not in fact go into the abbey, but went to the 2 shrines and a quick look around Walsingham, great place to visit and if you get to the farm shop and you like chilli, you must get some of the chilli jam
Very serene, mass was on, just missed getting in, although you could sit and listen to the mass outside, it was played on speakers all around the garden.
Stunning display of snowdrops and a lovely family day out
Very picturesque, small but nice grounds to explore. Minimal ruins left, but still very interesting. Lovely little museum attached...including original historic court room for area.
An eerie Norfolk charm of a place. Set in the middle of a village that attracts a large number of devotees to the shrine of Our Lady. That means an otherwise picture perfect milieu is somewhat surrounded by shops.selli g religious iconography. That in turn means the grounds and the abbey can be a quiet refuge.
This place is filled with the so many Marian graces. All to Jesus through our Blessed Mother. Thank you for a Blessed trip.
This is a must place to visit if you want somewhere to go and have a dog with you. Although we didn't take our dogs inside the buildings the grounds out side are great to walk with your dog. A map to guide you round and the Abbey ruins full of history make this the perfect place to walk round for a few hours. The open grounds plus the woods and the walk past the stream was great and my 15 year old kid enjoyed this too which was surprising as the iPhone was only used to take pictures.
I would have given this place 5 stars but for a few things. The map given needs more information of where you actually are when walking in the woods and the lack of bins to put your bag of dog poo don't help. Like all good dog owners we don't mind getting the poo up but a few bins around the walk so you don't have to carry it would have made all the difference. But do go and visit the Abbey as its well run, clean and tidy with enthusiastic staff makes this a great place to visit.
Went to see the snow drops it was a beautiful walk through the woods with carpets of snowdrops.
The best display of Snowdrops you will see in Norfolk.....in a beautiful setting!..
Loved the history and local information
Lovely walking around Walsingham Abbey Ruins. Although, it was slightly had going for my partner pushing his daughter in a wheelchair. Apparently, it is lovely here when the snowdrops are out.
Walsingham is in the outskirts with lovely scenery. A place which every christian should visit and spend the day praying. I love it.
Loved this beautiful place didn't get any decent pics unfortunatly
A lovely peaceful place .
Beautiful place for snowdrops walk
Unless you are visiting here for religious reasons you may find this a very peculiar but visually delightful village. It does have a superb farm shop and many nice picnic spots in and around the town.
Always a fabulous display of snowdrops and history of the site exhibition in undercroft
Awww, great experience. I would recommend 👌, beauty of the nature
Beautiful grounds, lovely place all together. Quite and very peaceful. We'll worth a visit whether your religious or not.
Lovely walk round the Abbey Grounds
Go in February to see the stunning snowdrops
Quite expensive to get in - over £5
Car parking can be a nightmare as village car park quite small
And village roads quite narrow as well
Pleasant quiet gardens. All coffee establishments in the village closed when we visited (Thursday around 11 am)
Beautiful! Very nice and peaceful!
Went along to see the Abbey grounds and catch the Snowdrops at the same time.
Spent a couple of hours just wandering about. Nice way to spend an afternoon.
Peaceful beautiful place
Beautiful place to walk
Absolutely beautiful. Walk by the river, stunning landscape. We were lucky to catch end of the snowdrops
Fascinating 1000 year old history. Very tranquil and beautiful place.
Went for the snowdrops. Glorious sunshine added to a beautiful walk. Walsingham is a bit weird but interesting if you like religious stuff. Court House and jail too.
A great place to visit, very interesting
A strange place. Interesting and weird. Just what I like. Watch your peas and queues. It's full of god botherers.
Beautiful enjoy it will go back any time
Very peaceful place to visit with a circular walk around the grounds
Oh lovely little town, probably the smallest I have come across so far. But with a lot of history. The village walls, buildings and streets speaks for its self.
Loved this place. This is the real England most tourists miss out on. I'm blessed to have so many lovely English friends to take me around.
Lovely day and a really beautiful place to visit.
Snowdrops at their prime, mixed with yellow aconites, also hellebores, hardly cyclamen and a few early daffodils. Best on a sunny day.
Went to catch the phenomenal display of snowdrops and it was fantastic!! Lovely walk, enjoyed by us and my border collie!!
Lovely walk in snowdrop covered woods.
absolutely love historical places and this is now definitely my fav
Religious experience and educational
Impressive large ruins. The history is also quite interesting as it directly relates to Henry VIII and the formation of the Anglican church (series of the Tudors).
On a not too pleasant day the Abbey was very impressive and surrounding ares of garden, river most appealing.
The most beautiful serene tranquil place ever. A must visit destination for those who long for serenity and peace x
Atmospheric peaceful beautiful idyllic place well worth a visit
Interesting town and gardens, very tranquil and peaceful
Spent a very peaceful two hours having a quiet stroll, very quiet and relaxing atmosphere, the little museum is very interesting.
Spiritual place for reflection
Just beautiful and the bridges, streams and gardens are phenomenonal
Lovely place to walk round lots of history all set in a nice location well worth a visit
Lovely time to visit. Restful. Birds in full song. Picturesque old town too
Beautiful place, could be sign posted a little better to explain what is there.
Very interesting. Doesn't take long to look around. I recommend visitors ask for the key to the old Gaol which is fascinating.
Lovely place for a day out. Lovely walks all year round
One of my favourite places in the whole planet.
my son took me to this lovely place for a days outing 2017 its a very interesting place so much to see & do
I enjoyed my pilgrimage to this beautifully maintained ruin. Especially as they welcome well behaved Dogs with owners.
Seemed like a nice place but was refused entry as I had a dog with me. Not very Christian of them!
Love this place and the snowdrop walk. Walsingham is a special place.
Lovely grounds to walk around. A beautiful scenic spot
Only walked around the grounds and looked at the snowdrops, but I think Walsingham is a bit too commercial for me, not enough parking, in the town and definetly not disabled friendly
Lovely walk..
Always find this a peaceful place especially Our lady of Walsingham Shrine where candles can be lit and prayers said.
A place for reflections.
Amazing place to visit, just had a great day and a lovely mass at the shrine.
Wonderful. Great people. Lovely food. Will be going back as often as possible.
Interesting and lovely site with a nice walk. Dogs allowed on leads.

Sind hereingekommen ohne Eintritt zu zahlen. Waren aber nur kurze Zeit im Park und haben uns die noch stehende Wand angesehen.

Walked in without paying admission. But we were only in the park for a short time and looked at the wall that was still standing.
