Reviews of John Hansard Gallery
O. G.
It is amazing and very beautiful. I loved every bit of my stay there. The active space room was really nice. In all, it is a very artsy place and confirms the beauty in art

Nice spot for galleries. I especially like the large window with a view of Guildhall. If I had this in my house, I would be quite satisfied.
The gallery itself was different, but enjoyable.

Had never been to this gallery before and it was a real eye opener! Some unexpected parts. The video installation on the top floor was a little bizarre with no real guidance about what it was, but the works on the ground floor - particularly the Soviet era maps of the UK were exciting!

Spacious gallery, well curated shows. Be perfect with with additional cafe ??

Currently closed, opens again 12th May. A place for people to enjoy and discuss contemporary art. Staff are friendly and helpful. The gallery also offers a range of talks and workshops which are free. Entry is also free.

Enjoyed visiting. Staff very friendly and informative. Looking forward to the next exhibition.

The gallery contains good contemporary art and it is free to enter

I love the fact that this is a free gallery. They switch up their exhibitions quite often so there's always new stuff to see, and most of it is made by young local artists. The whole place has a nice modern feel to it, especially on a nice sunny day. All the exhibits and art have at least something of interest to everyone, since it's very expressive and personal.
Definitely recommend this nice place :)

It's not the biggest gallery I've frequented but I do love how they try to regularly get Black and brown artists as their main showcase. Thank you for doing so!

My favourite local gallery, unique and unusual arts on display, which regularly change. Do phone ahead before visit, as often parts are closed for changing of exhibitions, they also close on unexpected days! But you really can't ask for more of a free attraction! Staff are lovely an wonderful with kids, There is a play art area for the kids too. Look forward to my next visit.

The Gallery is intimate and impressive. I love this space and all the installations I’ve seen have been curious and enjoyable.

Really pleased with this relatively new gallery, although this was my fourth or fifth visit! Very modern space with some great exhibitions - most recently we went to see one on old Soviet maps from the cold war (fun deciphering names of areas of Southampton in Russian) but then stumbled over an exhibition of fantastic photographs done by students at a local small school. Building is airy, and well designed for less able users. With two other galleries within a couple of minutes walk it is well worth keeping an eye on their exhibitions.

Great gallery, free to the public showing contemporary art, a welcome addition to the city centre alongside City Art Gallery and Solent Showcase. The staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable and the galleries are a treat, especially upstairs with a fantastic view over the square. Also, finally, somewhere in Southampton that sells ArtReview, and other journals.

It was artistic but not my taste.

Art gallery associated with the University of Southampton. Previously, it was located in the Highfield campus and has been moved to the centre. The gallery features various contemporary exhibits. The location is pleasant, being in a new building with free toilets and just opposite of the Naffield theater. For what I know, the entrance is also free.

Great first visit to see the Hetain Patel exhibition. Fantastic & engaging staff.

Modern galler, however at the time I visited. I did not find the exhibition to my taste.
R. M.
Excellent with a really nice and helpful staff team.
E. T.
Terrific photography exhibition - my favourite exhibition in the new building. Photographs based on the seaside - loads of photograpers, including Martin Parr and loads of others

A wonderful, warm and welcoming cultural jewel in Southampton's crown. Loved Sampler and the Richter shows and free events, can't wait for more!
H. R.
There's always some great funky exhibitions displayed here. There's a great variety of physical, audio and visual pieces. Worth a visit!

Free art gallery. A nice selection - for Southampton - or modern styles of art. The photography I saw there I really liked.
L. S.
A eye opener information I think.
T. C.
Worth a visit. Free to see exhibits, that change frequently. Not always to my taste, but what have you got to lose.
J.
