Fantastic tour of the site by the wonderful volunteers who have a great deal of knowledge to share and bring everything to life with enthusiasm.
Important heritage to keep alive for Stoke on Trent. Membership is £5 for a year and will contribute to the fabulous work they do.

A fantastic mix of photos, artifacts, exhibitions hosted by a wonderfully enthusiastic bunch of people. This is real history. It's a donations only entrance fee. Open Thursdays am and Saturdays. They make a proper cuppa as well. Thanks

The guys are really friendly and knowledgeable sharing there own experiences with you. The site is fascinating and fully of history not only about the site but mining In itself. This site is a real gem and it is important to ensure that it is preserved for future generations to learn about the important mining industry. I would highly recommend a visit to appreciate the staff and the site.

An entire colliery near Chell in Staffordshire, fenced off and gradually deteriorating as trees grow up around it. This is a great place for photography, but more importantly, it is a piece of industrial heritage that needs to be preserved before it is too late.

Alas now closed as a museum but they do have special open days throughout the year and if you get the chance it's a great place to visit and see the site while you still can.

Excellent few hours on the heritage tour of Chatterley Whitfield. Many thanks to the volunteers for taking us around and all the knowledge and information they shared with us. If you get the opportunity it's definatley worth a visit.

No longer a museum, this unique place - an incredibly well preserved collection of buildings, set in a very peaceful country park - is almost like a shrine to the thousands of men, women and children who depended on it for there livelihood and frequently gave their entire lives.

Chatterley Whitfield is a former mine/pit and museum. It is now owned by Stoke on Trent City Council, and although closed since 1993 there are an active group of volunteers who keep the site 'alive'. It is open to the public on Heritage Open Days, usually in September.

I had the great privilege to visit Chatterley Whitfield Colliery twice when I was about 11 years old. Once was a school trip, Me and my class mates went down the mine shaft. It was pretty spooky when we all turned off a headlights briefly to experience the darkness while we were travelling down in the lift. We ventured around the tunnels and i remember sneaking a small piece of coal in my pocket which I have to this day. Its sad the place had to close as i would have loved to bring my children to experience.

Once one of the largest deep mines in Europe it is now a shadow of its former self. I had the fortune to get a guided tour on one of the Heritage open days. What an experience !! We need to keep this place open ! Do check their web pages to check on open days. Unfortunately there arent enough of them. The volunteers are so enthusiastic and dedicated they deserve the reward of being swamped with visitors. Become a friend for £5 a year ..... make a donation...... but let's keep this site open !!

A very interesting place to visit, the museum has lots of archive material on show. The volunteers are all very helpful and can give you their experiences of working in the mines their enthusiasm and passion show through. It is a great place to visit for all ages to learn about our heritage.

Originally a working colliery and then a mining museum, this place is a preserved relic of one of Stoke on Trent's backbone industries.
Sadly no longer open regularly to the public, I visited on a Heritage Open Day. It's an amazing place to be guided around and you get a real sense of the place when it was working.
If it's not open, please don't try and gain access to explore.

Grew up visiting and going down the mine as a visitor. Have tried a number of times to get on a tour but places always seem to have gone before we see it advertised. From the top of the hill looking down at the site it's looks fantastic. It's a shame that it's not possible to walk around the buildings more often. The parkland created around the area is well worth a walk and had had some great paths put in. You can walk many different routes. Here's hoping to get on to a tour this year!

This Colliery was one of the largest in the country and it still is if it can be saved from falling into total destruction, its not that long ago that you could still visit the Colliery and actually go down it unfortunately due to flooding this is no longer possible all the buildings are are in danger of collapse English heritage have put it on the endangered list, all of the buildings are Grade 2 listed but you wouldn't think it. The friends and volunteers are doing everything they can to save it, if you like photography and industrial buildings it's an amazing place to go to, take a look at the website for more information.

Great experience with very knowledgeable guides. Hope to one day see more of the buildings - especially the bath house.

Wonderful place of local history but high risk it will disappear shortly if action to save opportunities are missed.
