Reviews of Buildwas Abbey

I have been here before, so wanted to go back and take some photos this time as it rained the first time. Unfortunately there are major renovations going on so several areas are fenced off. It is still a lovely place, and worth a visit, especially as it is free at the moment. Hopefully they will be able to complete the renovations quickly, and able keep the ruins safe for generations to come.

History that's worth just to stop by.
Ruins are well kept and parking is 2 pounds.
Nice 2 ladies that were there on a Sunday watching over the place.
It's a short look around but the ruins are a sight to behold.

This is one of English heritage free places to visit, parking is £2 for the day. Closed during the dissolution. There is quite a lot of the original buildings remaining so it's well worth visiting alongside a visit to much wenlock priory which is down the road . Lovely spot to have a picnic, 2nd hand bookshop inside the old kiosk. Some fine examples of tiles on display.

Visited on my Shropshire holiday on 2020, after the first Covid waves and lockdowns. The site was empty and a bit hidden, car park is not too big, but being alone was enough... To be honest I went there early, because I wanted to see other attractions on that day, too. Not too many information, or rather not at all information, and though the ruins are impressing and we can have some image in our mind of the abbey's life centuries ago, but some details would be appreciated. I did not find toilet on site, or maybe it was locked because of the covid misery, but all in one a short hour is enough to spend there. It is free to visit.

Another hidden gem deep in the Shropshire hills. Buildwas Abbey is a 12th century building. Largely intact still. It’s run by English heritage and members park for free. There is a £2 charge for non members. It has a quiet haunting presence which is felt throughout the abbey. Plenty of picnic tables around and it’s next to the river Severn too. Very close to Much wenlock and the priory. Definitely worth a visit

Beautiful quiet area to stroll around. Architecture is wonderful. Admission is free but a £2.50 parking fee.

2£ parking, has some picnic tables. Beautiful little spot overall. Very quiet.

Interesting remains of a Cistercian Abbey, quite a large section still stands that can be explored some absolutely beautiful old floor tiles still remain in a couple of areas of the building, when I visited there was a section that was fenced off due to a structural investigation being carried out but still worth a view all the same.

Really nice looking architecture, the arches where you can see the floors above are amazing, and the tiles on the floors amazing, definitely worth a visit

Charming ruin, definitely worth a visit but it isn't a place you're likely to spend a lot of time looking round.
