Reviews of Battle of Britain Bunker
The tour guides made the visit amazing! Very interesting little place. Educational and packed with history. It only took just over an hour for the visit, but it's well worth the money.
Such a fantastic piece of historical importance. What a very interesting insight into how and who was involved to keep Britain out of German hands. Definitely go with a tour guide.
Absolutely brilliant place to visit. Our tour guide Tony, with Mark were brilliant. This is a must if you are within visiting distance.
Great tea in the on-site cafe.
Lovely staff throughout.
Excellent place to go and learn British history. Staffs are very helpful. There are some parking for visitors.
Very interesting place for aviation Enthusiastics , where you can really feel history coming alive. The guide was very good with great knowledge.
I only wish that the shop would hsve a larger variety to offer…
A great museum based around the heart of Britain's defenses during the Battle of Britain. Our guide around the bunker was very well informed engaging and friendly. The exhibition is very well presented and contain a great mix of original artefacts and stories from people who fought in the bunker. Children are free, but they will get the most of it from around eight and up. Those eho bring toddlers are not doing themselves or others who share a group with them any favours!
Excellent visit. Tour and guides were fantastic. Very informative and immersing being in the bunker. Would thoroughly recommend. Excellent value for money compared to many other attractions. 5 🌟
Super interesting museum about one of the most important moments in this country’s history. Very knowledgeable guide who talked you through every moment of the Battle of Britain. 70+ steps down into the Bunker so if mobility is difficult then you won’t be able to enter, however the exhibition in the entrance building is fully accessible and very interesting too. Nice cafe as well. Recommend.
Brilliant day out - can't believe I never knew it was there! Grandson had a wonderful time asking questions about the war and trying to get the hang of a 1940s telephone. Really fab guided tour of the below-ground plotting and communications room, and understanding the method of getting Spitfires in the air and engaging Luftwaffe planes. Excellent museum and small shop, plus a Daisy's cafe. Beautifully designed building -- learned loads. Grandson free and we paid £7 each as seniors -- good pricing and highly recommended, even without a grandson!!
This is an excellent place to visit. Fascinating to see a preserved operations room. Great displays in the museum about the Dowding System and great value.
Excellent time at the bunker and museum. An important part of this countries history. The guides for the bunkers are very knowledgeable
Amazing! Absolutely loved it, all as it was in 1940 and learnt so much on the tour. Genuinely fascinating part of history! Also excellent to see how integral the women of the war were to the war effort :)
This is an amazing and wonderful place. We have seen the film version of the bunker in very movie about WWII with the RAF involved. This is the real thing. A great trip and highly recommended if you have an interest in this period.
Visited this amazing piece of history with my Son. He had been before and recommended I take a look. Andy showed us round. He was very knowledgeable and made it a great experience.
Well worth a visit to the visitor centre and interesting to see the bunker BUT unless you're really interested in history I would avoid the bunker as it consists of a 50 minute sit down history lesson and then 10 minutes to look around. The history lesson is much too long and not suitable for small children or adults who don't want to sit that long.
Visited yesterday (04 August 2019). An excellent Museum, housed in a superb modern building, which gives a clear and comprehensive account of the development of the sophisticated system of RAF Fighter control in WWII. The Museum is replete with relevant objects and excellent interactive experiences suitable for all ages and degrees of interest: we saw children play at plotting aircraft movements and an adult don an RAF officer's cap for a picture.
But the Museum (with its cafe, with friendly and helpful staff) is merely the start of the experience. We also went on a tour of the well-preserved bunker itself, led by a very knowledgeable guide. He gave clear and detailed explanations of how the whole system worked as we sat in the Plotting Room itself which Churchill had visited and had been moved to utter for the first time (later repeated in a Parliamentary speech) the timeless words "Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few"
The Museum is owned and run by Hillingdon and tbeir charges are very reasonable: as a Senior, I payed a total of £5 for the Museum entry and bunker tour.
I urge you to visit this important historical location.
Great place you learn so much about the history of how we won the war. Amazing to walk in the steps of the hero's that worked behind scenes in the war effort.
Interactive exhibition and presentations with photos and recordings of the people who worked in the bunker during the war.
You can even dress up in RAF uniforms and have your photo taken.
The life sized models of the aircraft inside and outside the exhibition gives you a real feel of what these men did in the skies above Britain.
Very small car park but there is parking close by.
Well worth the visit.
Fantastic tour of the bunker and also a great visitor centre. Well worth the 9 pounds.
Highly recommend the guided tour, that's the only way you get to see the bunker.
The bunker was relatively small, but it was the heart of Battle of Britain. It's definitely not something you should miss.
Hillingdon residents get to visit for free, remember to bring along your HillingdonFirst card!
An absolutely brilliant visit. This museum is a must- visit but doing the one hour original bunker tour raises the experience to another level. Perfect for children to visit and get interactively involved.
Amazing place with loads of history! Definitely worth seeing! 1 hour guided tour is not expensive, worth every penny, to go down to the bunker and listen all of those amazing stories!
Absolutely amazing place to visit and see how history unfolded.
Really great modern visitors centre suitable for all ages, but word of warning... The bunker itself has something like 77 steps, so not really suitable for wheelchair users or anyone with breathing or stamina issues. But the tour does have time to sit and recover!
Fantastic museum with friendly knowledgeble staff, well worth a visit
Brilliant! great place to visit, underground ww2 bunker pivotal in the battle of Britain 1940, manned 24/7 from 1939 to 1945! Exactly how it was during Winston Churchills visit, Battle of Britain day 1940.
Great experience. You must do the Bunker tour. Would and will happily go back again!!
Excellent place to visit but ensure you take the tour. A great shame that our visit was spoilt by the appalling service and attitude of one member of staff from Daisies the on site cafe
Fantastic guide and perfect point to understand history.
This place changed WWII
I took my 7 year old Grandson to the Bunker during half term as I knew they were doing activities. He had been there several times before but loves it every time. The activity was an added bonus. He made an Anderson shelter, see photo (with some limited help!)
A bit out of the way from central London and Uxbridge station (we took an Uber at £6) but a fun day out if you're interested in history. Would definitely recommend to do the tour as well as the mini museum.
Wow must be seen. Has a lovely coffee shop with some fantastic staff. You don't have to visit the bunker to use the coffee shop either. Lovely location where the old RAF base was.
A great museum and excellent guide, Andy, who brought the big day, 15th of September 1940, to life.
Fantastic place really interesting tour of the bunker and visitor centre brilliant and very interactive.
Fantastic experience, lots of information conveyed in an easily understood way and the bunker itself was incredibly impressive. Guided tour was great. Highly recommended!
Excellent tour and impressive museum. Free for Hillingdon First Card Holders
Had a tour here mainly to take my younger sibling who was interested. I ended up being intrigued myself. Dave was our tour guide and he made the history incredibly interesting. He also had really good humour. The tour of the bunker is limited to mainly one room which its interior has been kept mainly untouched And another room where items from that period are showcased.
I’ve lived near Uxbridge for years, and I had completely forgotten about this little historical treasure on our doorstep. If you like history in general, or history of war, this is definitely a place you should give some time to. You also get discount if you’re a Hillingdon resident, which is great. We went in a small group, which included my 10 year old nephew. He enjoyed it very much, loved the full size aircraft throughout, and enjoyed the talk in the bunker a great deal. Definitely worth it, as it is fairly inexpensive. They also have a cafe and gift shop. Lovely.
Fantastic experience and definitely worth a visit. Informative and pleasant guide with plenty of knowledge on the bunker and command room . Great visitor centre too with lots of military kit. Well worth the £9 entrance fee
Amazing place to visit, staff very friendly and well informed.
Such an interesting place to visit. The bunker is the only one left. We did the one hour tour which was excellent. The explanation of how the fighter planes were sent up at first was confusing, by the end the confusion was gone and replaced with deep admiration and understanding. I now want to see, 'The battle of Britain's film again with this deeper understanding.
Lovely tea and cakes available too and a picnic area for the summer
A great place to visit. Informative tour guide. Helpful staff. Step back in time to 1940.
Local gem! Free admission for Hillingdon residents (although you DO have to show the card, no excuses). Lots of fun interactive stations for children and adults. Dress up in WW2 pilot uniforms and take photos!
Enjoyable, informative museum, bunker tour well organised and guide new his subject. Under 5's are likely to loose interest as the tour is over an hour
Friendly knowledgeable staff, very informative and easy to understand displays for both history buffs & those just want a rewarding day out. For me I finally found out how the sector ops clock is used. Thank you.
Essentially an analogue precursor to a modern integrated air defence system, this bunker housed one of several regional control centres, used to deploy fighter squadrons to repel German attacks during the blitz.
Excellent venue and volunteer staff are very knowledgeable on the subject
This is a great place giving you a fascinating glimpse of the hard work and planning it took to repel the lufftwaffe in the battle of britain, best enjoyed by taking the tour.
Very interesting the tour guide is very knowledgeable
Great exhibit, bunker very interesting.
Perfect place and amazing guide !!
Fasinating museum and a brilliant tour down to the Battle of Britain control room very knowledgeable guide ezcellent value at £7
A unique look at the Battle of Britain and very reasonable for the £9.00 adult entry fee. The bunker tour is extensive and very visual.
Brilliant great guide good value worth a visit
Informative & intriguing. Did you know an air fight during the WWII could only last 15 seconds?! Well, neither did I. Go for it. You'll get to be in the actual bunker where everything was planned out in real time during the Battle of Britain.
Visited the bunker today. Have been before. Even with COVID, it was still a brilliant place to visit. Went in the bunker with Olivia. She was very informative and spoke in a way that made the past seem real. She made the workings of the operations room seem very easy, but they were exceptionally difficult. She was humorous and easy to talk to. I thought she was very experienced and professional. Well done to all concerned. The whole bunker and museum is definitely worth a visit
An incredible step back into our past, sharing the 6 most important years in man's history...
I loved the Battle of Britain Bunker because history was one of my favourite subjects at school and still is. I love hearing my mothers experiences of living through the war as she was only 10 years old when the 2nd World War started. The Bunker really evokes a strong sense of how it must of been when they were planning the Battle of Britain and everything has been left exactly how it was during those times. The guide also did a fascinating talk on how the Bunker operated during the war being very good at engaging the young children that were there. The exhibition was also very interesting and I would love to return to have a longer look at it.
Fantastic staff who are very knowledgeable and allow plenty of time for you to ask questions during the tour. The site is maintained very well but is a little tricky to find.
Fascinating and very moving a great piece of our history preserved for future generations
Very intersting. Well laid out. Cheap.
Free card parking.
A very nice place to visit and have memories
Great place to understand the RF set up in WW2
omg!! great place the tour guide olivia davies was great very informative you will get to learn alot of facts. its just like history school for all ages without any holidays or half terms.great things to explore but there are quite a few steps to walk. its so funny that 82 year old air conditioning is still going strong and better than modern day 2021 air conditioning well needed on a hot day !!! there is plenty of parking spaces and a nice lobby with a giftshop, cafe and a toilet before your tour commences. plenty of seats in the cafe both indoors and outdoors .and even better if you want you can just go to the cafe or buy something in the shop it wont hurt! i promise! handy to know just incase ww3 happened and you needed to shelter.there is a museum with a background documentary to whisp it up. boris jonson was there last week! you will learn about the sneaky joan from ww2.there are three slots so there is one slot ideal for evereone 10am,12pm and 2pm
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I was taken to the bunker by a friend visiting from the US. I really enjoyed and found it to be a very educational few hours. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and looking around the museum afterwards filled in many of my gaps in my knowledge of WWII. There's still so much to learn and so I can imagine I will be back at some point.
Perfect for able bodied people, 76 steps are a tall ask for some with little mobility
Lots of history here and well looked after
Excellent place to visit. 76 steps down to the bunker where the Battle of Britain operations took place. Seats halfway down if needed. Ground level is a hand's on exhibition. Small shop and tea rooms. Free parking. £7 for whole tour under 18 free.
Really well presented and a brilliant guided tour of the bunker 👍
I was taken there for a birthday outing.
If you have watched the Battle of Britain it takes you there.
I enjoyed the guided tour and a coffee in the snack bar.
This is a good historical place to visit and will not make a hole in your pocket at a fiver.
Excellent!
Hightly recommended museum. The tour is brilliant. I arrived at 11.30am and was briskly added on to the tour about to depart down around 30 steps to bunker. The talk by a staff member in Bunker was impressive and informative for about 45 mins. Cafe had tasty food and good range of food and drinks. I toured museum after and visited small shop too. Lovely 2 hours overall. Definitely worth a visit.
Fantastic historic site. Modern museum, with cafe. Good parking. Museum easily accessible. Bunker step only access, laid out as at Battle of Britain. Fascinating visit. Walking signage from Uxbridge could be better, not good due to building work
If you are interested in the Battle Of Britain this is the place to visit. For a small museum it is a brilliant place to bring the children to get a glimpse as to what went on in Britain to defend the country.
A very good piece of real history WW II
Really enjoyed my trip. We had a great guide. She had lots of information, but very easy to follow.
We enjoyed our visit here, the visitor centre is really interesting with lots of hands-on activities for the kids. It's a shame that you have to book onto a 'tour' to actually see the bunker. It's not that we minded paying the extra for this (it's only a few extra £), the main criticism is that the 'tour'' consisted of the guide talking for 50 mins whilst we sat at listened. He was very enthusiastic and a lot of what he said was interesting however around 4 children on the tour fell asleep during the talk and as an adult I felt it did feel a little like being back at school! It would be much better if the talk was more concise (say 15 mins max) and we were then able to look around ourselves and approach the tour guide if we had extra questions about anything. I would recommend a visit here, however not if you have young children or have a particularly short attention span (like me!)
Enjoyed r tour of the bunker. Very informative. Café and toilets on site. There is also colouring for children. Dowding Park is nearby.
@playgroundadventures
Even with covid restrictions in place, there is still an amazing amount of history and information on show, and the fact you can still go down into the bunker and see where operations were managed is fascinating to see and experience.
Just remember to book first as they do ask for it.
This is a hidden gem that is interesting for any age! A wonderful experience that gives insights to the battle of Britain in a way I have not found elsewhere. Amazing and knowledgeable guide for the bunker and a separate great exhibition. Go visit!!!
A genuinely important piece of British history, and a must visit for anyone with any interest in the Battle of Britain. Sitting in the actual plotting room where the air battles were managed, seeing all the names of the old fighter airfields on the tote board and watching as the guide shows how the board would have looked at different stages of the battle, brought a shiver down my spine. Having seen the film recreations of the bunker since I was a small child, and knowing what a critical role it played in the battle, to be there in the real thing was an amazing and somewhat humbling thought-provoking experience.
The new visitor centre built above ground next to the bunker entrance is also well worth a visit on its own (you can buy tickets just for this, or combined with a bunker tour), as it houses a variety of original and replica artifacts related to the battle and the bunker operations. Adjacent to the paid for museum area is a cafe and small gift shop, both of which can be accessed for free, and the cafe is certainly worthy of visiting in its own right - the cakes are excellent!
Also worth noting that Hillingdon borough residents get free access to both the bunker and museum if they have their Hillingdon Card - as a local I'd have been more than happy to pay the quite reasonable entry fee, so to get free access was an unexpected bonus, and one all locals really should take advantage of in order to experience this piece of history on their doorstep.
Very interesting about the RAF operations in 2nd world war bunker
Brings the Battle of Britain to life, especially once you go down to the bunker and the Ops room. Very knowledgeable Guides if you want to pay for a tour, which I found very worth while. Tiny gift shop
Truly fascinating. An absolute must for war history buffs. I was memorised.
Well this is a real gem in Hillingdon. I had been some years ago, but the new visitor centre really makes this much more of an attraction and it means that the visits take much longer. Unfortunately I only arrived just over an hour before my tour and this meant that I did not quite have time to see everything in the exhibition before the tour of the bunker.
You can do either the bunker tour, visit the exhibition or you can do both. I would recomend both to get the full experience and possibly to allow 90 mins if you want to read everything in the visitor centre. Stuff is made very clear in the writing and there are some full sized plane models. Plenty of interactive stuff too.
The guide that we had on the tour was very knowledgable and very helpful. This made it a much better experience.
I did not know that Hillingdon First card holders can get in for free so left my caard at home. However the adult prices are only £3 and £4 for each activity, hence very cheap for what you get.
The only minor criticism that we have was that the signs for the car park could have been better. Basically unless you are a family or have a badge then turn right into the car park before the visitor centre. We heard others mentioning the same thing, hence we were not the only ones who missed it.
Very suitable for anyone who can manage a couple of stair cases. The visitor centre is fully disabled friendly.
It was a really interesting museum, the tour guide gave you a lot of information on the site and the baristas at the coffee shop were also very knowledgeable on the subject. I am only removing a fifth star because I am picky and the seats inside the bunker were uncomfortable :)
We visited the Battle of Britain Bunker on a Friday during August, the museum was reasonably quiet despite it being the school holidays. There are many very interesting items and displays for all ages to read or even get interactive with, one of the most interesting topics is the coverage of the lives of the people that actually manned the bunker.. We took the tour down into the bunker itself with Andy our guide, he was most informative and answered many of our questions, we shared a few great humerous comments between ourselves too.
The bunker is inaccessible for the less abled due to its many steps, but well worth the trek if you can make it.
It's quite sobering when you stand in the battle room to think that many dignitaries have stood there before you and that the fate of their descissions has made our lives
what they are today..
Dave n Jill
Really enjoyed our visit today. The tour of the bunker was very informative and interesting. Lots of interesting facts learnt by us all.
If the cafe was open I would of given it 5 ☆
Worth the visit at least once. Lots of information in nicely presented way. The talks are good and interesting.
Very good if you can catch a tour down the bunker, knowledgeable tour guides and very cool to know the history of the area. Bunker has no disabled access, be prepared for stairs!
Loved this experience and would definitely recommend visiting and learning about the battle, the sacrifice and groundbreaking initiatives and collaboration to win the wars.
We had a great visit. We got there but the regular tour was cancelled to accommodate a school group so they managed to slip us in on a quick private tour. Not as long as normal but it was greatly appreciated.
Absolutely excellent , free for Hillingdon residents but only £4 per adult anyway well worth the entry fee, excellent staff very knowledgeable and very courteous , you must hang around and do the guided tour of the bunker to really grasp exactly what is was all about , one of the best exhibits in London,
Went with grandson who really enjoyed it.Will go again
Very interesting to visit this place as it's one of the four bunkers where the UK air defence was controlled during the Battle of Britain and it was then a highly secret location.
There's a video and tour of the bunker (quite a few steps down to get to it) and volunteers are on hand to answer questions. The mapping table with wooden markers that will be familiar from war films is original.
So much history and more importantly so important in our history.
Dave and Steve were really helpful. The history was given with interest. Great local and national heritage .
Lovely museum telling the story of of RAF in WW2. Lots of hardware on display plus interpretation boards telling social stories. The real operations Bunker is next door, and may be visited on guided tours only. Some parking available. Cafe, auditorium, toilets etc. Reduction for Hillingdon residents. Others charge about £12.
The battle of britan bunker is a very good visit , especily if you are a hillingdon card holder then you get in for free . There is plenty of free parking to . As you walk round there is plenty of information on the walls about the war and the roll of the bunker during the war . Look up on the ceiling and there are two full size replica aircraft . THEN YOU GO DOWN INTO THE BUNKER FOR THE GUIDED TOUR . This is very informitive and the guide gives a full hours talk on the bunker when you are in the comand room . You exit the bunker and you can go and have a lovely cup of tea and a slice of cake , HOW BRITISH in the tea room . on the way out why not stop at the gift shop . All in all a very pleasent visit .
Great small museum. Totally recommend the visit to the bunker.
Any fan of the 2nd world war will love this. One of my best days out and so interesting. I had a VIP guide taking me round and I recommend it to everyone. This summer a new visiting centre is being opened so even more to see and do. Fantasticccccc
Worth a visit to see where the fighters were commanded and the limited resources they had to work with.
Excellent place to visit, full of history. Chris gave us a very nice detailed presentation.
Great day out. Tour guides are filled with bags of knowledge and have a real passion for educating you on the Battle of Britain and how the bunker/operations room was used.
Excellent museum with a wonderful story to tell, well worth going out of your way to visit. World history was changed here, hear the story and soak up the atmosphere.
Excellent visit. The guided tour was very good and the guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about this historic place. Very good value for money. Highly recommended
Great place to visit,to remember the many who sacraficed themselves to help those of us for our future,,shame that we have lost the Dunkirk Spirit!! Reserect Patriotism and respect the modern day people who have laid down their lives to save us from further tyrany...Up the Union Jack!
wow what a remarkable place and history we should all learn about as to why we are even alive today...! and to think how they masterminded in bringing down over 1,000 enemy planes... Technology was at its best than... and well improved since than... the telephones and the teleprinter...
Visitor center & bunker are very interesting, the cafe is very good, great coffee and yummy cakes. We had breakfast once as well, it was good standard
Amazing place to visit. So interesting to go down into the bunker and the new museum is great!
I attend training session 1 month. Excellent rooms light & airy. Stsff friendy. Food fresh & in the summer space to seat outside. Difficult to find excellent & local amenities.
It is full of interesting things that I didn't know. I was amazed that my 14 year old grand daughter had already learnt a large amount in her history lessons so she found it extremely interesting.
Excellent well thought out exhibition knowledgeable tour guides.
Viewed by tour, fantastic guide providing succinct information plotting operations during the Battle of Britain. The bunker remains in it's original state.
Great time learning about RAF history. But no wheelchair access into the bunker as it is kept in original condition as much as possible.
Very detailed and the guy doing the tour was very knowledgeable too. Highly recommended.
It was great! It has loads of facts about everything that it has above ground.
Pretty cool if you're into planes and stuff. The best part for me was the fact that I heard someone call their kid "Bean" that's their actual name. "BEAN".
Fantastic place they are building a visitors centre open next year. It was great seeing and being where Churchill himself came during the battle
One of the best tours I've had on any subject.
A Fantastic part of history and well worth visit
Great piece of history. Highly recommended.
A must visit for all locals. Free entry and tour of the bunker if your a hillingdon resident. Cheap even if your not.
Great museum with an informative guide
The staff are amazing, very informative. A must see place.. enlightening experience. Good day out
Very nice liked the bunker and museum. Giant spitfires and cool underground
Had a superb time and really enjoyed the guided tour.
Fantastic place well worth a visit and a really knowledgeable tour guide who definitely knew his stuff
Such an interesting place. Well maintained with regular tour guides
Brilliant and engagingly informative....well worthy £7.00 including tour.
Have lived 30 minutes away from this for over 50 years and never knew it was here. Amazing history and guide "Dave" was brilliant
Great place and outstanding guides.
So small place and yet probably changes the course of the WWII.
Fantastic place. Real sense of British pride and a testament to the brave people who have served.
Very interesting. All clean and organised. Very keen and knowledgeable tour guide
Awesome day out, very educational brilliant tour guide (Ray) 😊👍
Worth a visit. Not for children though, they run round screaming as they are bored with WW2 theme.
The guide was amazing and full of interesting facts about the bunker.
We took my 13 year old grandson we all loved it. Really interesting
Technically great, good representation of the Battle and the bunker but devoid of atmosphere
Great to visit as very historic. You need the tour to visit the bunker but there is also a nice visitor centre with displays and artefacts. Fred did a good tour and explained the Dowding system and key moments in the Battle.
On the website it said tours only at midday so I bought a visitor centre ticket. On arrival I was told there was a 2pm tour so pleased to get on it. Coffee shop there as well.
Very knowledgeable tour guide who explained the importance of this bunker during the battle of Britain and throughout the second world war. It is extremely informative and a great way to pass an hour or so. I would recommend for all ages and it's well worth the money. They have a good canteen and parking here aswell.
The live, guided tour was OUTSTANDING! The guide took us into the Fighter Command bunker used to direct the defense of the southeast UK during the Battle of Britain. He was very knowledgeable walking us through how the entire "Dowding System" worked, how planes, were tracked, how decisions were made, etc. highly recommended for anyone interested in WW2 history.
Visited with my polish school on a Saturday. It began with a tour around the bunker and an interesting and informative talk with a lovely man who answered all my (many) questions enthusiastically and very helpfully! Then we had an incredibly intriguing and entertaining talk from a witty man about his father who fought in the Battle of Britain. It was gripping and eye opening, as well as being very educational, and had a good side of humour to make it easier to digest for all audiences. This talk, however, was a one time event. Finally, we visited the museum displays, and talked with the people working with 307 squadron project. This too, was an incredible opportunity to learn more about polish history, and provided a valuable insight into the nature of the Battle of Britain. To visit, you must book in advance, and there is a small entry fee. However, I believe this is worth it as it managed to rekindle my passion for learning about our history. There is also a gift shop, where you can buy souvenirs or even replica packs of things from the war! The only negative was that I wished I could have stayed longer.
This was truly an amazing opportunity and I cannot wait for another chance to visit.
Great informative tour. Very impressive bunker and fascinating to see it in an almost original state. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.Dilip Amjn an excellent tour guide!!,
What an outstanding museum! Superb booking system and on arrival given clear instructions including a sticker to prove I was booked onto the tour. The tour led by Charlotte lasted an hour and was very good. Lots of details of how the bunker worked, air defence in the 1940s and the Dowding system. The museum built next door was just as exceptional. Hurricane and Spitfire attached to the ceiling and lots of information showing a 3d version of the Dowding system.
Very nice and entertaining location. Extremely motivated and engaged guide.
Living history.
Must see.
Little bit hard to reach though, without a car.
With my interest in the RAF and military history combined with the excellent reviews of course I had to visit. I was impressed. Our guide for the tour of the Bunker was Jack and he is a natural, thank you. The exhibition centre is modern, explaining the development of Britain's air defence from the First World War, into the post war years and the Second World War. Including the Dunkirk evacuation, the Dieppe raid and D-day. I'm so glad to have been given the opportunity to visit such an historic site.
Brilliant, super interesting and incredibly friendly and thoughtful staff. We had a lot of fun, and they went out of their way to make it work for us to visit with our young children! Can’t recommend it enough, particularly for those with an interest in technical things.
A truly wonderful experience. We took my great nephew aged 12 to help him understand how winning the Battle of Britain prevented Hitler’s army from invading the UK. Following in Churchill’s footsteps to stand over the big map of Southern England and have the system of how the Luftwaffe attacks were thwarted was an unforgettable experience. I would urge every parent to take their kids to this fabulous museum and listen to the expert talk.
Incredible historic site, with an interesting and history laden tour into one of the most secretive and yet now well know WW2 commands. Well well worth a visit.
Excellent place to visit, make sure you do the guided Bunker tour. Our guide Jerry was fantastic, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The museum has lots of interesting and interactive displays. A nice little cafe, and friendly staff. Superb.
Very emotional as my father was a pilot during the second World War. There were two retired RAF gentlemen showing us around. The tour is the bunker only and takes about an hour. The museum you do yourself. During holiday season it would be advisable to book. It is about a six minute walk from the Uxbridge train station. They have a lovely cafe if you have to wait awhile for the tour. The bunker is exactly as it was on the day and the significance of the colours and lights all make sense by the end. Amazing feat when you consider there were no mobile phones or social media. Well worth the visit.
I took a group of pensioners here and all the staff were very welcoming and kind . The cafe had reserved some seating for us and put out jugs of water and glasses for us as it was such a hot day. None of the group were fit enough to go down to the bunker and staff put on a very informative film in the theatre about the bunker instead.
Amazing. Well worth the admission fee. Very informative talk by the guide. Great experience. If you have just a small interest in WW2 this is a must!
Very interesting authentic museum. The tour of the actual WW2 bunker was a highlight. Especially the explanation of how the commander in charge managed to direct all the squadrons of planes to the right places in order to defend Britain. Amazing!
Definitely worth a visit. The tour of the bunker operations room was informative and thought provoking. There's an excellent exhibition to build on the narrative of this momentous battle for air superiority.
If you are into this sort of thing, then you’d love it!
It’s super interesting and informative, learned a fair bit as someone who isn’t really into this sort of thing.
I am local, so I am glad I went and did it, but wouldn’t be bothered about ever going again as it isn’t really my sort of thing.
But very well run and done!
Fantastic visit, 76 steps down to the Bunker, a step back in time, the tour guide was excellent, lots of information and memorabilia on display everywhere, cafe and museum were excellent, staff were brilliant, a wonderful day.
My 3 year old son loved this place as did I. Cafe great too.
staff was super friendly and helpful (both at reception and the cafe). calm and peaceful even at weekends. very clean and new facilities. well-thought little activities for kids. spend a few hours and continue with the adjacent playground, mini lake and bridge if you go with kids.
Fascinating and educational day out. Great tour guides for the Bunker itself and a lovely small exhibition area with extra detail after your tour. I'd highly recommend this. It's a hidden gem. Male sure you book online to secure your tour spot.
This is a humbling day out. With the present challenges we are facing in today’s world, it is amazing to see how our predecessors dealt with similar situations. The fortitude shown, the bravery displayed and the perseverance demonstrated will hopefully be a lesson for us in the future.
Absolutely fantastic! Well worth a visit with or without kids. Highly recommend!
A great exhibition of the Battle of Britain Bunker. Our guide Jack was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The visitor centre has also a good display of exhibits and a good cafe.
What a fabulous hidden gem! A truly immersive experience! The staff were extremely knowledgeable, and their level professionalism was on point! I highly recommend a visit!
Excellent and interesting tour with a knowledgeable and entertainlng guide.
A historic site enhanced by a small but well presented museum
A wonderful and amazing place... The guide was extremely knowledgeable... I would strongly recommend... However if you want to visit it please do check what time they offer tours.... You will spend there at least 1 hour with a big wonderful smile on your face
I highly recommend the Battle of Britain Bunker museum. The guided tour of the bunker is absolutely brilliant. Our tour guide Andy was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting and engaging. The council have done a fantastic job of preserving this extremely important piece of history.
An illuminating experience, the Bunker is an amazing place to visit. Our guide Dilip Amin was superb, so enthusistic and knowledgeable. We all really enjoyed the trip.
Centre of operations for the RAF against the Nazis during the battle of Britain. Lots of unusual facts. Most of the workers were women of 18 to 20 years.
Had a brilliant day here! The bunker trip lasted an hour and a half and was incredibly interesting and informative. The lady who took us round and the man who was on hand to answer questions did a fantastic job. It's an amazing historical place with everything still in situ. We then stopped for a coffee in the tea room before going around the visitor centre with the wonderful replica Spitfire and Hurricane hanging from the ceiling. We read nearly everything and left around 3 and a half hours later! Absolutely no idea where the time went! Brilliantly put together and apart from learning more about the whole communication systems used during the Battle Of Britain, it was fascinating to read about the people who worked here and see original artifacts. I personally especially liked reading the letters and was transported straight back to that time, to get a real feeling of these people and their lives at this extraordinary time in our history.
Excellent, informative tour of an important piece of WWII history.
We really enjoyed this place, staff was exceptional, David was really informative and Bob was very good too. Lovely little cafe with scrumptious banana cake .
Very interesting. the cafe has very good food as well
Excellent place. Lovely staff, fantastic gift shop. A must see for any history lovers.
Staff great. Place great. All exhibits worked. Its history very interesting.Cafe food was very very, good. Prices good to. Our tour with Dilip was one of the very best we've been on Highly recommend.
This is such an amazing place, it should be much more well known than it is. My 8 year old daughter generally gets bored at museums or historical sites after a while but she sat through the entire tour completely enthralled. The tour guide was excellent, really articulate and knowledgeable and kept a good pace. She described the Battle of Britain in such an engaging way and gave really good context to the events. I’m sorry that I didn’t catch her name as I’d like to leave her a review. She was a younger lady with brown hair.
The bunker itself is so atmospheric, it’s a really special place.
I was a bit worried that it might feel claustrophobic down there but it doesn’t and the museum upstairs is really good as well. The customer service was great too as we couldn’t go the first time because my daughter was ill so they rearranged our tickets for us. 10/10!
Great piece of history for one of the most important battles in our history. Must see attraction.
Really good museum and a fascinating tour from a knowledgeable guide of the underground bunker which really brought to life all its remarkable stories and achievements. Also the whole place is well looked after and with friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit!
Excellent tour. Fab in depth & interesting analysis of how it all worked.
Brilliant tour .Tour guide dilip was knowledge and enthusiastic about the place.
Really Great. Utilised it as a team meeting location and booked the bunker for the meeting. Great 👍🏻
Absolutely brilliant! We had Jack as our bunker tour guide. Knowledgeable and approachable. Bunker tour lasted way over an hour and we were never rushed. The rest of the museum is fabulous too. Lots of well presented information. Lovely staff, fab toasties in their own made bread just added to a 4.5 hour visit. How did we not know about this place!! Such a great find.
Quite busy on a public holiday. Suggest to book tickets in advance. If you can, get the tour guide, Andy. He is brilliant. He doesn't have a script memorized but owns the story. I've been three times and every time I learn something new. You definitely want an hour for the bunker tour and then an hour to tour the museum.
Pleasantly surprised. Definitely do the bunker tour as well as the exhibition. Bunker tour was about an hour and a half and could have easily gone on longer. Dave our guide was brilliant. Cafe was well stocked and no silly pricing which was a pleasant change. All staff really friendly and helpful.
Fantastic museum--the tour is well worthwhile! Our tour guide, Andy, was incredibly knowledgable and presented everything in an exciting way!
Definitely worth a visit. History brought to life. Not only was the guide for the bunker tour very knowledgeable, it was also interesting to listen to other guides around the exhibition.
Great little cafe with a lovely pot of tea.
Really interesting afternoon. Great talk from the guide, Felicity. Walk in the footsteps of Churchill and others. Plenty of parking and easy to walk to from Uxbridge town centre. Recommended.
Was left speechless. One of the most impactful places I have visited. I learned I huge amount. And none of the crowds you get visiting a central looking London museum. Do the tour if you are going. It’s a must.
A fantastic piece of history preserved to mimic a key moment in the Battle of Britain. The bunker has a unique atmosphere and you can feel that history was made there.
Fantastic experience and guide. Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent interesting well presented accessible museum
Great exhibition and tour. Well worth visit.Absolutely loved it.A talk was given by Eungenie Brooks about her father. It was brilliant. So amazing and enjoyable to listen to.Thank you.
A most excellent museum and tour (learned many new things). Our guide, Dilip, was especially great.
A brilliant experience with the historic events explained in great detail by our guide Andy👏
There is room for 2coaches but it is better to book, a small coach is ideal otherwise there is a lot of reversing to get back to the bunker
Absolutely worth seeing. The staff (volunteer I believe) were very kind and affable.
Amazing place
Lots of Polish Accents
For WWII aviation enthusiasts
Historic place, emotions and why not... pick Nic...
An interesting and very educational place. I highly recommend watching it for all military history buffs.
When I went there there were 2 very nice tour guides who showed me most of the bunker and I would recommend going if you like history
This is a wonderful place to visit set in a peaceful area
It's the last remaining control centre for the battle of Britain it's all the original fixtures and fittings as it was in 1940.
You get a guided tour of the bunker.
The guides are excellent.
But if anyone has difficulty with steps it is about 76 steps to the bunker floor.
But it is worth a visit if possible
I highly recommend the tour/talk of the bunker to really understand how the defence system in 1940 worked. You go in thinking spitfires were just scrambled on enemy sightings but this operational command centre quickly puts things into perspective. The pressure the people that worked here must have been under, making life and death decisions based on rather crude (but seemingly effective) systems, still feels incredible to experience in a way all these years later. Even better, Winston Churchill himself was here on 15th September 1940 to witness that critical day in British & world history!
What a fantastic museum! Excellent booking system; I was given clear directions upon arrival, along with a sticker proving my reservation for the tour. The hour-long tour with the guide was excellent. Lots of information about the Dowding system, air defense in the 1940s, and how the bunker operated. Lovely cafe on site.
Very impressive and informative. Our guide presented the facts and stories as if they were actually real time. Absolutely fantastic. The museum and exhibits good
Fascinating insight to the control centre where a staff of mostly women oversaw Britain's air defence throughout WW2, including the Battle of Britain and D-Day. Knowledgeable and personable guides, well-maintained pocket museum and good cafe.
Went for VE day, the cafe was stocked, great service and a wide choice of delicious food and drink at reasonable prices. The bunker does get busy.
When with the beavers and it was a great experience, I knew it was there but didn't realise how much money had been invested in it.
I didn't manage to go into the bunker but my son assured me it was great and the guide was great also.
The actual museum was great and had some really interesting exhibits.
The staff were all very knowledgeable and helpful.
Well worth a visit
Fascinating, went with a couple of other people, the day consisted of going down the 74 steps to the Bunker where they orchestrated the Battle of Britain. The Bunker is incredible and a 45 minute talk by a knowledgeable volunteer was not only very informative but really made me visualise what it must have been like. I came away with a lot of facts I didn't know and stories to share with friends. This was aimed at adults rather than children but there were some children in the audience and they were seemed engaged or, at least, very well behaved (not sure I would have been at their age!). After the talk we were able to look around, go upstairs where Churchill and others sat overseeing operations and then left the Bunker to visit a fantastic museum with Spitfires and everything. There's a great cafe and a very reasonable gift shop!
Had a great day. Husband went down the bunker very informative. I went into the museum also very interesting.
Had a cup of tea and cake in the cafe
This is a must-see for anyone interested in WWII. It was an amazing glimpse into some of the most important events of the 20th century.
Wonderful museum.
A fascinating historical site, I really enjoyed the tour of the Bunker.
Absolutely brilliant. Little known about but it should be. A very well presented museum, but the highlight was the tour of the presentation in the 'operational' room. The guide was passionate and very knowledgeable about all that happened there. Some really 'hairs on the back of your neck' moments. Overall excellent (the café was worth visiting too).
Extremely knowledgeable and informative tour guide (Dave) who helped bring everything to life. He was generous with his time and took the time to answer lots of questions. There was a great collection of exhibits in the bunker and a number of model aircraft. Very good value for money.
The museum itself is very informative and has an excellent displays on the Polish pilots and also the Dieppe raid. The guided tour is certainly the highlight though, being in the room which changed the course of the war and the knowledgeable guides telling you great detail and passion about the events as they unfolded, was amazing.
