Reviews of York Army Museum
l. t.
Great little army museum full of amazing artifacts from all time periods. The staff went above and beyond giving myself and my partner a guided tour around the museum. The gentleman was very knowledgeable and very friendly with a few good laughs involved... The museum was so peaceful and quiet.
S. g.
When visiting York there are many options, such as Yorkminster, The Walls & Jovik Centre to visit. However, miss this one and its your loss. The vegetarian and I spent around 90 minutes in the York Army Museum. The exhibits are exceptional, with much detail and range to keep your interest.
We definitely learned a thing or two and the stories of some heroes/heroins were truly inspiring. York has a huge history in the British Army and you'll understand more by visiting this museum.
Ticket pricing is very reasonable (Adult Standard Admission £5.00, Student Admission £4.00, Over 60 £4.00, Visitor with disability + 1 companion £4.00, Child, Young Person, Service Personnel £2.50, Family Ticket - 2 adults + 1 child £12.00, Family Ticket 2 adults + 2 children £12.00, Family Ticket 2 adults + 3 children £12.00, Family Ticket 1 adult + 3 children £12.00, Family Ticket 1 adult + 4 children £12.00)
My final comment is this, I normally take a few pics as I make my way around a museum. I think it's telling that I only took 2 here. *****
J. N.
Phenomenal museum, Luke the guide was a very well informed, friendly gentleman who absolutely made the experience with his well spoken plethora of knowledge, loads of interesting artefacts, we will definitely be coming back!
G.
Very friendly staff, lovely laid out and easy to view.
D. G.
Army museum, was fantastic for young and old my grandson enjoyed himself very much he helped find all the artifacts asked of him by the volunteers, they were all amazing they dressed up as different people and he loved the Lady who played the part of Captain Oates, she told the story of Oates as though she was him ,so good, all of the volunteers were dressed up and telling there stories through different times they were all very interesting then they helped the children find different items and tick them of their list , they made it fun for the kids, but older generation was enjoying it also it really is worth a visit young or old.

We didn't have to wait for the access to the museum as we had our Visit York Pass and the reception desk member of staff was very helpful. Museum itself was quiet despite it being the weekend but we really enjoyed the visit.
P. M.
Visited as part of York Residents weekend, and very much enjoyed walking around, looking at the artefacts and reading about the history. I've lived in York all my life and never visited, sometimes sadly forget that the museum is there. I would recommend visiting if coming to York, or if you already love in York! It's just across from Clifford's Tower, and very easy to get to.
N. B.
Hidden gem, well worth a visit. Something there for everyone. Kids loved dressing up in army clothing.
D. T.
Exelent exhibition, full of details and atmosfere(films, sounds). There are many weapons in great conditions You can see and try to imagine that isnt was so easy to operate with it like in computer games:) Museum has great example of second war Angel of Death - german MG42 machine gun. It is a great chance for know more about British Army during last ages, really recommend visit this museum.

D. A.
Interesting and well laid out museum telling the story of The Royal Dragoon guards and the Yorkshire Regiment. Included many artefacts from the Boer war, the Great War and up to modern day. Interactive displays for young and old alike.
C. G.
The guy made it well worth the money the amount of information he knew was amazing
A. E.
A really detailed history of yorks regiments, the price of wales involvement. Most amazing is that it is one of the most interactive involved exhibits I have seen for a long time.
C. M.
An excellent museum. Plenty of interesting exhibits as a good description of each of them. I certainly enjoyed my visit.
B. W.
Small but well arranged museum.
J. T.
Not the biggest Museum I've been to but that takes nothing away from a well stocked collection with some beautiful pieces inside. There's a lot of work done into showing the people that would've owned and used the items which adds a nice layer of personality that can be missed in bigger places where you get the urge to rush around to ensure you see everything. The local nature of everything was also nice to see, it felt like there was a lot of pride on show.
t. m.
Excellent information. Loved the poem on the poppy poster
E. P.
Awesome place to visit, must see if Luke is working as his knowledge and enthusiasm around the exhibitions really make it worth while!
P. M.
Excellent display and interesting notes - one of the best (and cheapest) museums in York!
P. O.
A real hidden gem. This goes from the Napoleonic era all the way to modern warfare. Well worth a visit.
P. D.
Worth going. Great for the history of there regiment.
L. J. B.
Quite small but very well done. Some very poignant and interesting exhibits. Very reasonably priced and the ticket allows access for a year, so great value for money.
R. B.
If you are into military history this place is a must. So much to see and the museum maps out the history of the regiment up to the present day. Lots of items bought back from the battlefields which added to the experience. Highly recommend.
J. P. P.
Spend a few days in York going round all of the historical sites of which their is many but this was one of our favourites. If you get the chance to go it’s well worth it with some fantastic exhibits and knowledge and helpful staff. Would recommend to anyone with interest in military history.
C. T.
Really interesting museum, kids loved the interactive sections.
R. M.
Very interesting museum charting 500 years of the regiments history. It isn't a large museum, but it's only £7.50 for an adult and a child and there are enough artifacts to keep a 10 year old boy interested for over an hour.
D. P.
Knowledgable Volunteers, good displays interesting objects on view.
R. M.
Nice little museum mainly connected to the royal dragoon guards friendly helpful staff.
R. W.

D. A.
Nicely laid out exhibition, clear, concise and easy to read information. Excellent range of artefacts which shows the pride of the regiments. Well kept, clean and well presented. Amzing insight to the history of thw regiments and a lovely tribute to Sir Captain Tom Moore.
I. Y.
A good small scale museum. Time and money have been spent on the displays which are well lit and highly informative. The collection of military objects is very impressive. This is one of the best small museums I have been to. If you like military history you shouldn't miss it
V. S.
A small museum but packed full of stories and information on military life, hands on with some of the selection of weapons and a chance to get dressed up.
P. D.
Very interactive for children to learn military history
T. G.
Very interesting museum some moving items on display
C.
A wonderful little museum at a reasonable price per person (tickets are valid for an entire year) and a very fitting and moving tribute to the history of a marvellous regiment.
D. P.
Little gem of a museum, hidden in a basement next one of York's most memorable attractions.
Tickets give a years access, but they serve you best by passing them onto friends or family since the content of the museum is easily consumed in one visit.
However what content there is, is definitely worth the time and price. A complete history of the local regiments, with hundreds of relics from their history. A must view for enthusiast and an interesting and engaging display for everyone else.
J. B.
Nice small museum. Entrance price allows unlimited entry for a year. Service and Ex service personnel receive half price entry.
J. D. A.
If you're interested in your military history this place is an interesting place to spend an hour or so in. The two men who worked there were friendly and the exhibits were well presented! Well worth a trip!!
R. B.
This is a tremendous small museum, full of interesting artefacts, which are all fully described and explained. It tells the stories of the five British Army regiments which have, over the years, amalgamated to form the Yorkshire Regiment. It is all beautifully displayed and there is plenty of interest for all ages. Magnificent!
M. B.
Lots of interesting memorabilia, learnt things I didn't even know had happened. Charts the rise and amalgamation of the army and squadrons over the years and how they came to be called what they are today.
S. K.
Very well presented informative content.
K. C.
1full of interesting stories and memorabilia. Very well put together exhibition. Would highly recommend
D. M.
Nice museum with some significant exhibits despite small size. Displays are relatively modern and well presented considering space, though I feel the museum would benefit from a guide or something to increase interactivity. (visited 5 months ago)
T. 1.
Small but very informative museum. Only £5 to get in and compared to the rest of York, the museum was very quiet.
D. P.
Loved the outline of the Sherman Mk III!
F. C.
Great experience, could have stayed for hours, very interesting museum. Well worth a visit
A. P. (.
This place was OK but it was smaller than I expected but the exhibitions were great the only problem I had here is there wasn't much to see & their "the Somme" special exhibitions were a table with writing on it & the walls were just pinned on paper.
If this place was bigger & their special exhibitions were more exiting/interesting I would give this place a 5star/lived rating.
M. P.
Lovely small museum. Great exhibits punching above its weight compared to other museums
C. C.
An amazing place to visit, lots of interesting facts, a lovely rembrance table for you to leave a message with your poppy.
M. P.
A compact treasure trove of interesting military artefacts and information mainly of a couple of famous regiments. A very thought provoking experience and a reminder of what others have given for their country. Very reasonable admission fee and thoroughly recommended.
i. p.
Sobering experience all round it makes you think what our brave soldiers went through for us. We will remember them.
E. P.
Great little museum, interesting and informative. Friendly staff and lots of exhibits you can touch / dress up in! Included in the York pass and one of the best things we did on it.
A. A.

Kids found it good too.
C. R. D.
Very interesting museum. You could easily spend a few hours looking at everything. Also, great selection of costumes and props for photos.
S. R.
I enjoyed 1 hour and 45 minutes looking round the displays. I was moved. This was superb!
J. F.
Really small museum, but packed full of regimental history of two of Yorkshire's regiments (rather than an Army museum). Bright and we'll displayed and shows artifacts and their history brilliantly. Definitely recommended if you like military history.
J. S.
A nice museum. Not as big as I expected but worth visiting with the york pass. Has some interesting items. A good museum and well laid out but its just another military museum. Seamed to be missing that one item that makes you go WOW! Had a good time here.
M. P.
Very interesting military museum in the centre of York.
L. R.
Great stroll through British military history.
A. B.
Small museum but some interesting artefacts. Great display that allows you to see 'progress' in war over 100 years in 1 wall. Staff friendly
A. D.
Wanting to take my father who served in the East Yorkshire regiment I phoned to check access to relevant items.
Very well laid out displays and amazing artefacts.
Highly recommended.
J. F.
This is a hidden gem of a museum. It's wonderfully laid out, full of history, military memorabilia and character, and has friendly staff.
Memorable displays include a full size display of an infantryman's uniform and weaponry from the Napoleonic War that confronts you, bayonet and all, on entering the museum. My personal favourite part of the display was the 'taken' cabinets - essentially the 'trophies of war', ie. stuff the regiments pinched from the battlefield!
The museum shop also had some intriguing/odd things to buy, such as 'chocolate grenades' and even a full sniper ghillie for kids.
Well worth a visit.
T.
The museum was good, but the staff could be nicer to the visitor.
J. F.

Great little museam its in the basement of the building just down from the Hilton hotel. But dont be fooled by me saying Little museam. What it lacks in size it makes up in detail. Its a great place and very interesting. Well worth a look. A must see. Well York Army Museam.
