Reviews of Rough Trade Bristol

Went in to collect an online order, ended up spending nearly 2 hours browsing through the vast amount of vinyls. New releases, hidden gems, second hand, the lot! Whatever your musical taste, Rough Trade Bristol has something for you! Really helpful staff, ended up chatting about our holy grail record. Will definitely be coming back!
M. B.
What an incredible little gig venue! Well organised, stocked bar, and intimate venue. Need to head back during the day to buy records and drink coffee but as an evening venue for an acoustic storytelling set with Jeremy Loops couldn't fault it.
R.
Perfect afternoon stop on route to see Let’s eat Grandma. Great shopping experience, best record store there is bar none. Staff sooooo friendly and helpful it's obscene. Only get a five though because I could not give a 20! Sooo good don’t ever walk by! Other than that, excellent.
Cheers Rough Trade team!!!!
Will be back soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Rough Trade. I used to go to the location near Brick Lane in London a lot while I lived there but this is just as good, and also puts on some great events throughout the year. Also great and easy pick up service from buying online. Staff are always really pleasant and I love the variety of music they offer.
A. L.
Had a quality night at a inshore gig for Kojey Radical. Great beers, top staff and awesome gig space. The Vinyl was tip top to thank guys keep up the good vibes
N. M.
Amazing little venue for the book signing I attended , lovely staff and a real authentic feel! As well as a vast collection of music ..... It had a bar 👌🏻
C. J.
Great record shop with an inbuilt venue for bands and a bar.
Good selection of records and decent bar for drinks.
They always manage to get great bands to appear at their shows.
B. M.
Came here to see the mother vulture gig. Rather impressed with it being a small venue. It has a decent bar with fair prices and the sound was good too
T. E.
Attended an all ages album release show with partner and daughter.
We booked tickets in advance and rough trade were happy to provide a seat for us in we needed it.
Well organised gig, we booked to see Lissie launch her Carving Canyons album. Doors opened at 6.30. Lissie onstage with small band at 7.30 and played approx. Half the new album before leaving stage around 8pm.
Finally option to queue and meet and greet Lissie at the front of the store. Waited another 30 minutes to meet her, happily signed a flyer for the new album and chatted to us despite being under the weather.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

A rare gem. A haven in an already diverse city: necessary, vital even, yet as unpretentious as can be when creative risks are taken. Bristol, you must support this place
M. P.
I went there to a Chali 2na vs Krafty Kuts gig, where they presented their brand new album. I bought the ticket online for 10£, but this price included the album too. The place is basically a record shop, however a it also a includes a cafe/bar and a concert room. The concert room is not is quite spacious for a record shop and I was satisfied with the sound quality. There's a good line up of artists so probably I'll attend again.
E. C.
Down-to-earth record store stocking vinyl, CDs and books with regular live music. These is a small cafe in this branch too.
Not the cheapest, but high quality of service
K. H.
Good new selection of vinyl, CDs and even a few cassette tapes too. Bar / cafe is small but big enough. Didn't see any live music on my visit but there's space to come and see some gigs.
B.
Cool record shop, lots of stock variety from new to old records. There's a cafe inside which is a nice place to grab a drink. They also sell hardware such as speakers and record players if you're looking for that.
J. B.
Impressive store in terms of stock. Lot's of vinyl but expensive for on average £20-£30 per album however Sainsburys seem to sell it for £18+ so probably not far off. CD's reasonably priced and to be fair and ironically arguably better sound quality taking retro fashion out of the equation. Overall more inspiring store than the sadly ill fated HMV a stallwart now of the past. Poor old HMV. Good work Rough Trade.
T. E.
Best record shop in Bristol, always give it a visit when I'm nearby, highly recommend it.
I. T.
Cracking venue, holds about 200 people, very loud, parking nearby. Tidy record shop during the day
N. F.
Such a great venue for new bands. We just saw Pip Blom do a short set, do a signing and got a free album thrown in with the ticket price. Venue has a bar and holds approx 200. Support new music people!
S. T.
Amazing venue with live gigs , Artists from all over the world , beers, food and soft drinks to be bought on site, good prices!
We seen still corners that night! Epic
R. K.
Awesome store, fantastic range of records, many limited edition coloured vinyls, helpful friendly staff and eye catching merch. Travelled from Lancashire to visit (well, via a stay in Bath) and worth every mile! Thanks guys.
J. B.
Fab little venue, came a few times during Ritual Union Fest, great sound quality, bar outside the room so no distractions.
Z. M. -.
one of my favourite record stores!! staff are always willing to help find what ur looking for and record store day is always a blast :)
A. S.
My favourite vinyl shop.....always something on offer also great for exclusives....spent way too much money here....Great staff.....
N. 9.
Went to a book signing ... A very interesting shop ! ... Well worth a visit, if you're looking for a record store !
t.
As good a selection of vinyl as you'll get in most cities, although I would have liked to see a big 12" section with soul, house, etc although I guess if they don't sell then...
Again the 7" could have done with more soul, funk, reggae etc, considering this is Bristol.
I liked the cheap/damaged section - you can get some bargains if you don't mind a bent sleeve torn cover etc. But check the actual vinyl. One LP I nearly bought had a cracked record with a 1cm x 3cm section missing!!
S. B.
How a shopping experience should be.
Great selection of new and used vinyl and CDs in every genre. Everything from the shop layout too knowledgeable sales assistants is bob on.
J. B.
Passed this record store in downtown Bristol one Sunday. There was artisans sharing their artwork as well as a cafe serving hot drinks & cakes.
B. H.
Good record shop with a small gig venue at the back, so nice intimate gigs though the sound quality isn't amazing, and bar selling very good beers
O. “. M.
Great record shop, and the gigs there are very intimate, would recommend anyone tries to see one of their favourite bands or artists there. The shop itself is laid out well with a good selection of fresh vinyls and classics, the prices are about standard for most of the releases. A few books and other audio things available. The café/bar is small but great for a coffee or couple of drinks, with similar prices to most bars and cafés in the area. The events in the back room are always great, perfect for smaller album release tours usually with a good mix of genres playing there.
M. M.
What a revelation.
Lock me in their book section forever and just give me something to eat and drink every now and then.
Also, super nice staff! Greetings especially to m fellow DIIV-mate who works there.
M. A.
What super record shop, and a great venue delivering small personal live music.
E. G.
Very cool, great vinyl selection, fab café and black and white photo booth.
J. S.
Great shopping experience, best record store there is bar none. Staff sooooo friendly and helpful it's obscene. Only get a four though cos the live performance stage could do with being a couple of feet higher to improve the view. Other than that, excellent.
A. M.
Great place; music, coffee, beer... wish I'd found it earlier
D. T.
Great music shop. Vinyl, books even CD's
t. h.
Awesome place. Massive store. Great atmosphere. Stocks rare vinyl!
S. H.
Nice intimate little venue, good sound and generally a good gig experience. When it gets packed it's a bit overwhelming, but maybe that's my post lockdown brain speaking!
Can't speak for the shop itself, seems nice! They have nice beers on tap, but not much cider!
N. B.
Fantastic night at the Nova Twins instore signing. Just wanted to give a massive shout out to the lovely friendly bouncer who helped make it a great experience :))
S. R.
Awesome venue with superb staff & very kind service...Accessible as well is worth adding...
D. P.
I was here for an "open mic" night and thought it was the perfect size for this kind of small gathering. Good range of drinks and friendly staff. Support Bristol's music scene and pop along. :-)
M. M.
Pretty good selection, reasonable pricing, and a great little coffee shop too. Impressed!
E. A.
Great place to go grab some vinyls or cassettes or even just to go into and get your pics taken in the photo booth, there's almost anything you might need there.. Go check it out.
(fair warning) Staff aren't that helpful or friendly like at all. but I suppose you don't really need that if you know what you're looking for although good staff do make the experience better
I'd give it a 3 star or 4 star rating but I'm giving it a 5 just because I like the actual layout of the store and what's in it
T. S.
Big things coming for the live room here. Played a show here the other night, Incredible atmosphere and sound quality. Very impressed, will be looking out for big shows coming through
O. A.
Really cool shop with really cool gigs! Seen 5 bands here now and they've not disappointed - 100% worth it
C. e.
Great selection, picked up some bargains in the sale section , went again today still good and rocking
S. T.
Stopped in rough trade for a coffee, chilled atmosphere and the Americano was strong & tasty
A. N.
Love browsing around this store and grabbing a drink. Really pleased to get a vinyl I had been after for ages in here, right on my doorstep...
F. H.
Pre-ordered a vinyl to have shipped to Canada. It was packaged well, got here quicker than expected and appreciate the emails keeping me updated. Thank You, will definitely visit the shop when I make it to the UK.
Ď. H.
Nice vinyl based shop with books canteen and toilet
s. w.
Had an awesome time, saw the amazing Emily burns in concert and it was great. The area where they hold the concerts was small but that was great as you got to get up close to the artist and it had an amazing atmosphere. Bar with drinks and photo booth located on site.
M. Š.
Downed a shot of rum and accidentally bought two books here. 10/10 recommend to anyone who's after rare records, unconventional literature or fancy music.
r. l.
Good venue and comprehensive music store. I was also impressed with the book selection. They also stock American redneck beer here!
S. W.
Always have to have a browse around here. My vinyl addiction means I'm sure to find something I'm after. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. Hoping 2021 will bring some great live shows back here.
T. P.
Best record store in Bristol. Don’t forget to check out the live bands. The store has a real gig venue hidden in the back with a bar and great staff, low priced tickets and album signings. See the stars in a small venue before they go Stella
G. G.
A really cool indie little spot for a gig. Love it every time I go 👍
M. P.
Love this place as both a store and a venue, helpful friendly staff
A. Q.
A brilliant record shop in the centre of Bristol. Spacious and well stocked with rarities and exclusives as well as everything else you would expect to find in a great record shop.
Had a great evening here with 'The Big Moon' promoting their new album. The live room is not very large but maybe because of this, the sound is exceptional. Definitely well worth checking out up coming appearances here. There is also a bar and cafe area. £5.50 for a pint of very tasty Gamma Ray beer by Beaverton brewery.
E. D.
One of the best record shop chains in the world, I had not been to their Bristol store, so enjoyed my visit. Well laid out store and a great selection of music and books etc... Friendly staff and they serve beer and coffee too!!
D. P.
It's a great shop for Vinyl lovers! Right in the heart of Bristol, great experience here - excellent staff and great choice of Artists/Genres
S. A.
A very good selection of music available which you don't normally see in mainstream record shops.
I like browsing through the small selection of second hand vinyl records they have, which are sensibly priced, plus they sell refreshments.
If you are seriously into music, this is a very good shop to visit.
D. T.
The staff here are absolutely fantastic! Excellent cafe, music shop and venue. Totally awesome.
L. S.
Great for a small venue, came to see Led By Lanterns recently and I was impressed by the sound quality of the venue, audience was dreadful though that's not the venues fault.
S. D.
Great intimate venue in the centre of Bristol. My introduction to this venue was via a brilliant new artist Billy nomates. Only downside was being short couldn't see her much from where I was.
C. T.
Great record store of new and old music. I was in there earlier this week for an album signing with Grant & Taka from Feeder.
A. B.
Awesome record store with another excellent instore show 😀
K. H.
First time visit. A good range of items. CDs, vinyl, books and a cafe. Friendly staff. Good news
S. S.
Great shop vinyl seems a bit expensive.
D. S.
Extremely friendly and helpful. Had a wonderful experience.
W. B.
Definitely somewhere you have to visit if in Bristol, they have a seriously impressive range of vinyl records (both new and used), as well as plenty of CDs, books and other assorted musical memoribilia across most genres and decades
C. P.
Nice little record shop with an intimate live music venue. They also sell food and drink.
G. C.
I bought some used vinyl, which, on playing when I got home, turned out to be of a lower grade than I was hoping for (I didn't realise I could have listened to them in-store). However, I had no problem returning the records for a refund.
R. B.
Fascinating , as I was born early sixties 61! It was good to browse around with my 23 year old Daughter . Great staff too.
S. M.
Great shop. A huge selection of vinyl, books and cds with a good indie and community identity. Bright and inviting with plenty of space to browse.
There's a cafe, too which sells coffee as well as beer. I could stay for ages.
G. D.
Good medium sized record shop with a great variety of vinyl. Only there on a visit to Bristol, cool place!
R. M.
As usual, a great range of vinyl and associated media. Shame they don't sell many posters though.
M. R.
Overpriced metal section. Very interesting special Japanese edition collectors section.
Friendly staff that liked my bf's napalm death t-shirt.
K. D.
Small cafe at the back of the shop. Small but well formed coffee shop menu. Only one or two lunch type items so is more of a coffee spot than a food stop. Really cheap tea (£1!!) and free wifi. Good music from shop floor.
Nice selection of books alongside the large array of records.
S. H.
Great record store which is a pleasure to walk around on a lunch hour looking up new releases and essential classics, I think that is the term they use. Have purchased many a record, many a time here.
Plus the coffee shop is great, really good quality coffee and one of the nicest pieces of flapjacks I have sampled in years.
A. B.
General coverage of most familiar musical genres, both new and 2nd hand.
D. S.
Fab selection of vinyl and merch. Lovely little cafe/bar in the corner too
D. E. R.
Really great venue to listen to some great tunes!
If you see a band you like is playing here I definitely encourage you go and watch them here!
D. S.
LOVE rough trade, theres loads of places round atm that sell the basic and boring vinyl and with no heart or soul. This place is totally different, the staff really know their onions and the range is extensive to say the least, loads of rareities and goodies here, keep popping back and seeing something I havent seen in years. Good up the good work Rough Trade!
J. M. (.
Amazing selection in vinyl; I found so many records in there that I've never once seen on physical release before. The staff were beyond friendly and excellent help in finding particular records. Also the place has a lovely café with great coffee!
l. r.
Great record store, loads of live music - nice bar/cafe too
T. A.
Good coffee. Strange décor
N. B.
A Mecca for vinyl in the centre of Bristol. Great selection of albums old and new . Staff are really helpful , knowledgeable and friendly. Good reference point for local vinyl as well.
M. W.
Ok for big new releases and reissues, expensive if you are used to internetprices. Some good instores and events. Nice little bar/coffee shop. Has a toilet if you are waiting for the 48/9 and need a wee.
P. S.
Lissie promo gig, great venue!
A. S.
Rough chat pistol is really cool shop....
Back up. Some really cool vinyl in that too
M. S.
My partner bought latest Iron Maiden album and I bought second hand vinyl, Frank Sinatra and a 7 vinyl box set by Nat King Cole, they all play perfectly, very happy my purchases.
K. J.
Good record store. Met Grant and Tako from Feeder at a signing. Staff were friendly and helpful.
S. H.
A little expensive, but it's got a good selection of vinyl (both old and new) and thry can order things in for you if there's none in stock.
Has an interesting mix of live events too. Worth a visit.
E. P.
Record shop with a great selection of alternative books. Crowd was a little more 'refined gentleman' than I was expecting, but there's plenty here if you're interested in LGBT issues/feminism. Some fab cheap books and deals, too.
R. T.
Nice quirky cafe with lots of interesting parafinalia and vinyl records. Customer service could be more enthusiastic
G. I.
Great shop for vinyl enthusiasts. Plenty of special edition releases and you can now grab a coffee out the back too. Have live bands on occasionally too. What's not too like?
R. W. R.
Great shop, glad we have a location in Bristol, I've never have an issue with their stuff, friendly and helpful staff
only issue is they can be rather pricey
J. P.
Legendary indie shop the Best in the world,
M. P.
I went here as part of the Dot To Dot festival and only visited the venue and bar. A bit small but it worked really well for the music we saw. Sound was very good. Not sure about louder music, but it worked for the lower volume chill out stuff we saw.
J. L.
So proud to have a Rough Trade in Bristol. They always have an incredible selection of records, both new and old. There's also a great bar area and seats in the window if you want to have a coffee or a beer whilst you listen to the music and watch the world go by. As well as all this they're brining great bands to Bristol with live gigs, limited edition releases and record signings.
B. R.
Great selection of vinyls. And the photo machine just rules
J. K.
I first went to Rough Trade when I stumbled across their Shoreditch location in London and immediately loved it! There is so much to choose from, they stock so much vinyl from so many genres and it’s all so reasonably priced too.
So when I heard we were going to Bristol I knew we had to pop into Rough Trades new branch. And it didn’t disappoint! Even after our car breaking down and having to get towed back to Manchester. It was so great to be able to pop into Rough trade Bristol while we waited for the tow truck.
Amazing book shop, an amazing collection of vinyl, a bar and they even had a great sale section for the vinyl!
If you like books, music, vinyl, good vibes. Defo pop in here!
G. ..
Had a wide variety of records, cds, cassettes, dvds etc. Really was a great shop to look around in and discover new artists. Would definately reccomend as they supply new and old albums for music lovers
K. R.
Saw We Are Scientists, New York band. Great evening and friendly team. Would visit again
R. J.
Record shop perfection. Loved this place, great selection, great people, had a coffee shop attached, what's not to like!! If you love vinyl this is a great place to try out.
D. S.
Since its only just opened I'm guessing it would be quite well stocked but I have to say I was underwhelmed with what was on offer. The filing system used seems odd and some records aren't where you'd assume they should be. I'll put these errors down to opening problems and try again for next months record buying trip.
I'm now making this a 4 star review, the way the records are arranged is still confusing but because of this I've bought some records I wouldn't normally pick up and " discovered " some new bands ...
D. C.
Spacious music store, lots and lots of vinyl, and a small but comprehensive CD section too. And books. There's also a cafe and a small but effective stage for live music!
C. S.
Great record store. Wonderful selection. The staff are kind. The cafe is a nice touch. I could have spent hours here if I had the time.
R. M.
My new favourite shop. Love the vinyl and love the cd collection (I'm still collecting). Coffee is top notch also.
M. B.
Great record shop, about medium sized with a mainstream selection of records, CD's and books. There are often performances on the premises and the café is decent.
A. P.
Love Rough Trade. Exactly what a music should be. Very diverse range of well categorised music, variety of formats and some hardware to play your purchase on. Oh, and music related books and a cafe to read them in. Perfect
S. S.
Brilliant music shop, loads of Vinyl and CDs and easy pickup of tickets for a gig! Also loads of new and indie music being showcased in store.
C. S.
Really cool venue. Got good sound and vibe. Staff were safe and nice energy's inside. Will be back to check the shop out ASAP as well. Respect
J. W.
Awesome record shop, just missing the option to listen to records there before buying!
L. B.
Great record shop, a lot of classics and modern releases, the staff was really helpful as well
P. R.
Popped in for a live session by the Wandering Hearts. The place was full and the acoustics surprisingly good.
I was surprised to see how much vinyl was on sale... a great range...
a. P.
Sorry but I'm only giving 3 stars because it has a massive range of new vinyl but very little second hand . When I heard rough trade was coming to bristol I thought it would be a massive thorn in the side of bristol's independent record shops, but no such worry here. If your into vinyl for that new trendy release and a moca-choca-frappi to go with your 180gram hipster 12" then this the place for you . But I would recommend a trip to st Nick's or a stroll up the Gloucester rd for some more soulful sounds and vintage grooves
T. P.
Well curated but limited selection. Better for new releases than back catalogue. Difficult to find specific items due to haphazard classification (some items by genre, others by country, others by decade) but can be good for browsing classics.
I. B.
I like this place as it has records, a nice cafe, generally okay vibe and interesting events. I just don't like the categorizing of the records in American, British and so on. Seems weird and doesn't help me browse!
C. E.
Great shop with a good range of music for all tastes from bland mor pop to proper bonkers jazz. Also having a live gig space in central Bristol is very cool.
R. N.
Went to an art fair (Shake Bristol) here and had such a good time. Space is great, coffee is good and browsing through records and books was a plus.
R. D.
Rough trade rocks. The staff are so helpful, the range is ridiculous and it has the most lush live music room! Also of course the photo booth is a must for anyone, you gotta have a rough trade photobooth shot on ur wall/fridge/coffee table!
b. o.
Obviously a legendary label. The organisation wasn't amazing for Simple Things. Popped out to the toilet before gig started then was stopped getting back in by security who let out forty people as too many people had been let in. Only caught the last song.
R. S.
Great selection, friendly staff.
E. S.
Amazing selection of records, CDs and books. Bought a copy of Bon Iver - for Emma , forever ago .Will definitely be coming back soon!
j.
The best record shop in Bristol and it was a sin the band slag heap
S. W.
Their listening posts mostly don't work, and if they do they don't go loud enough to hear above the shop music. Good book selection & cafe though.
J. S.
A very nicely fitted record and book shop with a surprisingly good cafe attached, combined with regular free gigs it's actually far more attractive to visit than you would expect.
M. M.
Great stuff, can't wait for the cafe to open once again. Small room gigs here are ideal.
B. M.
Great addition to Bristol.Cool shop with a good selection of vinyl, cds record related stuff like slipmats and even record players.Has a little coffee/reading area and groovy photobooth.
p. y.
Great place but not a lot of choice of Heavy Metal on vinyl, plenty of second hand vinyl though.
F. P.
Great selection of records as well as some really nice books too. Warm atmosphere would definitely recommend
T. G. (. G.
Good for signings, vinyl is a little on the steep side.
A. R.
Great independent place to purchase albums, books related to music and other memorabilia. There is also a cafe inside which is a bit cold and dingy- prices are extortionate.
M. L.
Brilliant shop for choice, vinyl you wouldn't find elsewhere. Pleasantly surprised to see they have a cafe/bar.
M. T.
Really cool music venue with a great drink selection. Amazing acts lineup to play. Great location! Lovely staff
D. J.
Fantastic gig, great atmosphere, staff were awesome, and beer was good.
K. A.
Part of the dot2-dot music experience, great day.
M. B.
Went to The Nova Twins instore.
Awesome!!!!!
R. N.
Live music, bar with various alcoholic non alcoholic drinks, vinyl and CD music selection
T. B.
The cafe is actually really lovely and the staff seem to care about making the space somewhere to sit and relax, not just make money! Oatly Barista is available, and Henny and Joe’s chai!
P. M.
Great prices but limited choice
K. P.
My favourite record shop. Friendly knowledgeable staff, live performance room, bar, coffee etc. A great experience.
K. E.
Entirely wheelchair accessible, nothing is overpriced and a great variety of vinyl, CDs and books as well as a lovely cafe. Great for music events as well
D.
Fantastic selection, wish I had more money to spend in the shop!
B. C.
Really great place. Friendly staff, and good selection. There was also an event on, called Shake. It was free, so I had a look around, and it was pretty cool!
L. M.
Quirky record shop in Bristol. The store has good selection of music whilst also having a cafe at the back

Amazing atmosphere! Love the support to local bands!

Always find a good bargain here plus this shop is doing the Record Store Day every year.
B. L. H.
Nice shop and atmosphere but didnt have a very good range of clasical vinyl and was rather expensive.
T. C.
Great record shop selling loads of vinyl. Also got a gig room and cafe/bar. What more could anyone want???
s. l.
Really good venue with excellent sound.
Beer choice could be better.
D. D. W.
Great place for records, a tad overpriced at times but you can find some pretty rare records
N. M.
What's "Neo Soul"? I think you mean RnB. Was so hype for a Rough Trade in Bristol. Great selection, but not a fan of the cold clinical lighting. RIP Rise.
A. S.
Great shop with a variety of vinyl and books. Attended an acoustic set here and it was great!!
A.
I love rough trade Bristol as they have a real room for gigs compare to rough trade east in London! Line up is always cool. Go and check it! ☑
A. H.
Fantastic venue, sounds good, and the bands are really interesting. Just please don't close down in standard Bristol fashion!
G. C.
Has almost anything you can think off even obscure artists you just can't find in any other retailer, highly recommend.
s. j.
Still a great record shop and very good prices and great range of records
L. T.
Awesome shop with a really good selection of vinyls, and few CDs and books too.
A.
Small venue but great atmosphere and well-run bar
A. W.
Excellent store, lots to choose from. Quirky taste in music right up my street. Staff incredibly helpful.
T.
Great little record store, host loads of events with upcoming bands and some more established

A little out of the way. A treasure trove if you've got time.

G. M.
Great vinyl choice and layout.
Shame cafe has to be shut at this time.
G. L.
Good selection of new and used records. Decent prices and a few bargain bins.
Q. B.
Good selection and nice to have an actual physical shop still. Love the lounge bit and stuff they get in there
d. U.
Went here to see Aurora Aksnes live and signing, staff can't fault and venue area adequate. Also hundreds of selections of albums and vinyl

(Translated) This store has a wide range of vinyl from all eras, styles of music, and many parts of the world. I liked having restrooms and a bar available in the store, and the prices are reasonable although not exceptional. Overall a recommendation to anyone looking for a record from a particular artist in Bristol.
