Reviews of The Guitar Coach
Justin is a great guitar teacher, whether you’re starting out, an advanced guitarist or somewhere in-between. Over the last 10 years he has taken me on a journey through a huge range of acoustic and electric guitar styles – from blues to rock to jazz to funk and even country-style finger picking! More recently he has helped me pass my Rock School Exams with ease. Justin has been taught by the best and has front-line experience of playing in bands and working in recording studios. All of this he brings to his teaching; and whether you just want to carry on playing at home, tackle an open-mic night or join a band Justin can help you develop the skills and repertoire to help you realise your ambitions.
Justin coached myself and 4 others for some years before his relocation to USA. Always a good structured session. Justin has a well prepared series of lessons for beginners and those who want to learn and become better guitarists. The lessons are structured and the books and handouts provided by Justin are a very good look back should you want to refresh your memory. I enjoyed the sessions because for a beginner like me Justin also taught me about music. Meaning he did not just let you play a guitar. This was great for me as someone who had no music knoledge at all. His studio set up was also a great place to be coached and professional.
Having tried a number of guitar teachers, Justin is most definitely the best!!
Justin is patient and gets you playing songs immediately with gently introduced theory at the appropriate time.
He shows you how to build a song from single strum chords into full performance which you could never do on your own.
I met some brilliant people on Justin’s group course and thoroughly recommend him to others keen to enjoy the guitar!!
Justin was the guitar tutor to my son for something like eight years, and taking him from a beginner to Grade 8 (Rockschool). Justin is an excellent guitar tutor and I have no hesitation in recommending him to adults and children alike. He's an unbelievable musician. He's also reliable, personable and an excellent communicator.
I came to Justin with a 25 year rut of hacking round basic position 1 pentatonic and power chords. He taught me, via some "classics" :-) the core electric guitar techniques and disciplines to have a crack at the music I love, from Nile Rodgers to Johnny Marr. Along the way he encouraged me to understand the theory of how and why their music works. This proved just as valuable in my musical journey. In Justin we trust, thank you a thousand times, you're a gem.
I had a great time learning to play electric guitar with Justin for two years, when he had his studio Fusion Music in St. Albans. I was a complete beginner starting as part of a group tuition for adults and not only was it great fun, I was also impressed by how prepared the lessons were. The studio was fully equipped and ready for use before each class, we each had handouts and Justin also used a white board/drawings during the lessons which helped understand the theory side of it. Speaking of which, the lessons were the perfect balance of theory and practice, and the exercises we did in class followed a sensible progression before leading to us all playing classics and more modern songs that were based on chords we had just seen for example. While this was a group tuition, he managed to dedicate individual time to each of us, and as a beginner, I also liked the fact we first learned basics such as how to hold the plectrum, strum and position fingers on the fretboard to get the best possible sounds, things that not everybody shows but that are important. He was always encouraging and gave individualised advice to ensure we progressed. I enjoyed each class and always left in a good mood. I am now about to start 1-to-1 online lessons with Justin, and while I considered doing in-person lessons with a local school, I chose to go back to learning with Justin as I think his teaching is excellent. I think the tuition plan with fortnightly lessons is an excellent idea for those who work long hours like me, as it should give me enough time to practice between lessons, I just have to stick to a strict schedule in my free time!
Can't speak highly enough of Justin. If you want to learn how to play the guitar from scratch, or to move on to the next level wherever you may be in your guitar playing journey, he's your man! High quality clear instruction and demonstration, with excellent supporting materials - love the tab and other material for reference to support practice. No escaping, you've still got to put the practice in!!
Justin is an exceptional, and very patient, guitar teacher with a vast knowledge of music and it's construction. Highly recommended for any music genre you may want to learn. He's also a nice bloke!
I studied guitar with Justin for a number of years during his time in St Albans, mostly through one-to-one tuition and with some group sessions. Having studied with a number of guitar teachers over the last 10 years or so, I can honestly say that Justin's teaching style and knowledge was unsurpassed.
I joined Justin’s group lessons for a couple of years in St. Albans. He is a patient and effective teacher and a very nice guy too. He clearly knows his stuff and was a great help to me on my guitar journey.
Fun, relaxed but structured lessons with a great range of classic songs. I’ll never forget how exciting it was to be able to make Mull of Kintyre come out of my own guitar! Justin is lovely and very supportive, and I thoroughly enjoyed every lesson.
Justin is a brilliant tutor/coach, I went to his classes in St Albans as a complete beginner. His approach to graded development from absolute basics to quite challenging pieces was inspirational.. I was very sad when he move to the US … I hope to reconnect with him now he’s back..
Wishing you every success Justin.

A super and highly professional guitar teacher, Justin will enable you to develop your skills at every level. Highly recommended.
I have taken Justin's group classes for several years. Very friendly, very knowledgeable, and a great teacher. Teaches a good mix of theory and practical skills.
My daughter and I learnt so much being taught the guitar by Justin.
I will nefinitely be rejoining once he returns locally. Totally recommend, and thank you for being so patient with us. 😊
Suberb teaching with all aspects of guitar-playing available and great notes provided to back it up and use for your own practice. Recommended 100%
I have been having guitar lessons, as an adult beginner, with Justin for 18 months and, to be totally honest, I count myself lucky to have found him.
Justin brings a wealth of experience to each session. I have used other teachers before and, from the outset it became clear that their abilities absolutely pale into insignificance compared to his own.
He has a vast knowledge of music, coupled with an incredible eye (and ear) for detail which enables him to provide instant, accurate and intelligent feedback during lessons (there's no pulling the wool over his ears that's for sure).
He is both encouraging and patient which, as an adult beginner, is an absolute necessity and I trust him implicitly with my 'journey' to improve my skills in playing this amazing instrument.
In addition, the quality of the handouts that he provides is also top notch. No scribbled pieces of paper or handwritten tab here!
In 18 months of weekly lessons he has never let me down at the last minute, unlike other teachers I have used. Again a testament to his professionalism.
Whether you are a beginner like myself or an experienced player you will be in, absolutely, the best of hands.
You've seen the rest now try the best!
Justin is an amazing guitar teacher who was able to get the very best out of my 10 year old son who thrived under his expert tuition.
In my experience Justin is an excellent guitar coach. While specialising in the guitar he has knowledge across multiple instruments and this complements his tuition. He recognises that not all of us are going to reach professional level and worked with me to improve technique but, importantly, still enjoy simply playing the guitar. Working with Justin in class settings and within 121 lessons he has helped me get more out of my playing, move on from the basics and get a better understanding of theory. Justin is also careful to structure his coaching to manageable segments (important for someone like me who is also juggling work and family time too). I'd expect Justin's digital coaching is likely to prove popular ... get in quick if you want to improve technique, acquire more knowledge of music theory or simply improve the playing of some of your favourite songs.
Justin helped me improve my guitar playing, sense of rhythm (which I'd struggled with for years) and taught me how to practice (which I didn't know I needed to know, but turns out was really important). He's great at explaining things - both theory and practical, and his use of songs to practice each technique keeps things interesting and has expanded my musical taste along the way. Thoroughly recommended.
