Probably the oldest place for records in town. Has new and second hand. Good range between rock, reggae, hiphop, electronica, jazz and world. Does record store day too.

I have been looking forward to a trawl here, stock level was great and I spent £42. I was disappointed that the guy behind the counter had absolutely no personality. I was carrying a seal bottle of mineral water and a hi viz vest Having worked a freight train into Leicester, I asked if I could leave it at the counter whilst I go through the vinyl, they guy agreed however made a comment 'I don't want wet records' which I thought was rude and uncalled for. I did spend £42 on records however I won't be visiting again as I go to record shops for a happy shopping experience. A welcoming nature and a smile would have earner this store five stars!

I usually visit when I'm in Leicester and the selection of new vinyls has thankfully grown in the past year or so. The problem I have had a few times is with the opening times. It seems to be random. I've made 12 mile trips to Leicester specifically to buy vinyl from here and the shop has been closed. This has happened twice in the last month alone, both times in the middle of the week during hours it was supposed to be open.
Aside from that, the staff are pretty friendly and there is a decent range of genres considering the size of the shop. I have found some great Dilla records and a few gems hidden in the crates that you just don't find anywhere else in Leicester at the moment, so I'd recommend a visit, just don't expect the opening times to match Google's listing.
Edit: The last few times I've visited, the selection of records hasn't been great. The hip hop section was almost non existent aside from a few obscure (and sometimes wildly overpriced) second hand records and it seems to be the case that newer records of most genres are rarely available near the release dates.
I really want Rockaboom to be the place to go when it comes to records in Leicester, especially with HMV closing, but it all too often disappoints when it comes to newer records.

Proprietor was a gent, easy-going about using deck to listen to some beats, no deposit needed.
2nd hand dnb vinyl bought all in mint condition and well presented.

Haven't visited for about 15 years but loved this place when I was a student. I still have lots of records with rockaboom prices on. Whoa... it's moved again... must visit the new shop. Still have a soft spot for upstairs at Loseby Lane.

A mainstay of the Leicester Music Scene. Please note, it's moved from St Martins to one of the smaller arcades.
