Guivier is unique. A haven of very old school service - but not at all old-fashioned. You feel you can really trust them with your precious instruments and that they will do what they say they will do. I'll tell you what - let's keep them a secret just between the two of us.

I saw a bow on the website at a very competitive price, but unfortunately don't live anywhere near London, so popping in to try some out first wasn't an option. They were very friendly and helpful via email. I was happy to go ahead and purchase it. The buying process was very straightforward and the bow was posted very safely packaged (it was a bit like pass the parcel to get in though!). Very happy with my purchase and would happily recommend J P Guivier to anybody.

I contacted the folks here about an issue with the pegs on my violin slipping. I explained I'd bought it online from another music store so it had never had a professional set up. They said I could drop it in and they'd take a look. The lady on the phone and the gentleman who greeted me at the door were both very friendly and helpful. Within half an hour of dropping it off they talked me through my options and the price points for them (either just fix the issue with the pegs, or give it a full set up) and I opted to just fix the pegs as it is only a cheaper student violin and would be looking to upgrade soon. They sorted the pegs for me the same day (within a few hours) at a very reasonable cost. The folks here seemed incredibly knowlegable, were very welcoming and friendly. One of the best experiences I've had in a music store of any kind even though it was a simple drop off and collect affair. I'm looking forward to coming back once lockdown is over to look for a new violin!

Wanted to give 5 stars but the staff member who was serving me was quite unhelpful, I had to ask the advice of a more experienced lady who worked there. Other than that, the service was perfect. They let you practice in a private room, and the selection of bows they offered me were slightly below and above my price point, which was perfect. The best centre for string instruments in London. They recently completed a refurbishment of my antique viola, which included peg bushing, which needed to be done very carefully. The quality of the workmanship was truly outstanding and the resulting sound quality was significantly improved. Robin Hamilton and the team are polite, knowledgeable and attentive. A very different experience to one of their very well know competitors in London, who I approached before going with Guivier. I wholeheartedly recommend the team at Guivier and really cannot sing their praises enough.

J P Guivier is now the only place I will go for anything violin-related. I am not a professional musician, nor wealthy but the service I have received on every visit is second to none. Whether emergency soundpost retrieval after my re-stringing attempts, recommendations or purchases every experience has been positive and professional and the knowledge and passion of the staff is always evident. I bought my perfect bow here and the focus was on finding the right fit for me, rather than whatever was at the top of my budget (as i have experienced elsewhere) - clearly true musicians. The shop is beautiful too, which doesn't hurt!

I asked for a advanced Violin and they gave me a range of violins from 500 to 1200 pounds and when I tried them, I could see why they would be advanced which proves that they knew what they were doing and when I chose my violin they gave me the case options and the Bow Options which are a very wide range which I am happy for and the have options for cases which is very good too... They promise to fix my violin when I bought It with a 1 year warranty which was kind of them and A very good store...

My own long-term luthier having moved hundreds of miles away, I took my cello (for gluing, varnishing, fingerboard, sound-post adjustment - basically needed the lot, barring a bridge - to Guivier's, along with my Sartory bow for rehair. Then I buzzed abroad for Easter. Got cello and bow back yesterday. It looks stunning and sounds astonishing. No new strings: just dedicated, delicate, polished workmanship. Couldn't be more impressed, highly recommended.
