Best place for fresh records and turnover of tunes in the capital however can’t help feeling the stock has been more patchy in the last couple for years and the prices seem to be increasing quite a lot - inflation maybe?

A good selection of vinyl to hunt through better priced than discogs so beats most second hand record stores. All the vinyl I bought today is in great condition some sleeves slightly worn. I am very happy with my purchase

If you're looking for records, and live south of the river, then this shop definitely should be one of your haunts. Great value/stock and new stuff is added often.

Superb shop. All records purchased play perfectly. Prices are fair and there's some real bargains to be had. Very much worth a visit if you're in London.

Excellent record store! Great selection and very fair pricing. I managed to get a few vinyls that had been on my wish list for quite some time there.

Best record shop in London. Super fair prices and wide selection. Tom and his staff were very nice and helpful. They’re not overpriced just because they’re in London. They also know their stuff. This is what a good record store should be!

I’ve been here maybe 4 or 5 times now and can honestly say that it’s worth the effort, I’ve been buying records for over 20 years now and RR is around 20-40% cheaper than anywhere else for second hand records in London.
I really like that they take on a mixture of beaten up stock and newer stuff in their second hand section (priced accordingly).
This aside, it’s definitely worth getting there first thing on a Saturday though as there seems to be a regular crowd who go at the new records (the put out the weeks stock every Saturday) with an unnecessarily rabid fever. I’ve been mid week before and whilst the normal sections are definitely really good and worth a look, Saturday is the time to be there.
Staff also super nice and the right mix of helpful, talkative and leaving you alone to browse!

Great long established record shop specialising in second hand vinyl records. New selection put out every week.

This is a great place. I found it in the early 2000s and they had lots of CDs of artists that I had listened to when I was younger where I had got rid of the old vinyl. And both CDs and vinyl are at bargain prices. There really is something for everyone. I don't know how many thousands of pounds I've spent here over the years but I generally come away happy. Recommended.

Great for crate digging. New items every day!!

Great service from Tom, phoned to tell him what type of records I had to sell, he popped round to have a look at them. Took what he thought were worth taking... some were really bad, to be honest, and I got cash for the ones that he wanted. Delighted with the service. I'm going to recommend to friends.
R. F.
Good prices (for London, skating below Discogs average is rare) plus great eye for condition and most of their good vinyl is properly cleaned.
D. S.
Friendly, well priced and lots of new stock every week . Stuff you thought you never see turns up regularly.

If you're looking for a somewhere to collect and sort old cd,s and vinyl this is the place.

Lots of vinyl. I went for a couple of shapes records as i know that they have a rack with them. I left happy as usual but i have to say The only sad thing is that they have this cover for a hot rats album from zappa but no record at all heheh.
I will recomend just to go go and have a look at the master pieces that i saw there. Very nice shop. i love it

How to say goodbye to your vinyl? Its like saying goodbye to aspects of our earlier lives. To the sound quality of vinyl (nothing beats it). To the album cover artwork (oh dear). Not an easy task and pretty emotive stuff. However, practicality reigned and I needed the space the vinyl was taking up in my home for other things....and I don't have a turntable so it became a no brainer to sell.
After a false start with another dealer, Tom made the whole process easy. He was incredibly professional about the valuation and arranging when to collect AND he did everything he said he would do when he said he would do it. Why is that worth mentioning? Well, not everyone does, do they?
I was very pleased to deal with Tom and am happy to recommend him if you are thinking of selling your collection.

Second-hand and relatively modest range of vinyl in reasonably good condition across the genre spectrum but it's the variety, quality and fantastic price of the CD selection that makes this shop standout from the competition in Greater London.
This rat is top dog and warrants repeated visits.

Tom was a very polite and nice guy and was professional in his approach to purchasing my records. I would highly recommend rat records for anyone who wishes to sell or purchase Cd and vinyl's. Tom collected the records I had and gave me a very good price. I was very pleased!
J. B.
Pretty good choice of vinyl, but can be quite pricey. My taste is jazz where there is not so much affordable vinyl (some of it is way over priced for what it is) but a very good selection of CDs, so worth a look if you're just into browsing, but you'll need a bigger store or the Internet if you're after something specific.
P. S.
The previous review is misleading - they ask for a £10 deposit before giving you a stylus and headphones for the turntable. You get the tenner back when you return them.
I think it's a great shop, with very sensible low pricing which means their turnover is high, so it's worth visiting every couple of weeks at least.
I've found the staff friendly and open to a bit of modest haggling
T. P.
You can always find a few classics great record shop

I had a large collection of vinyl LP's to sell and I got in touch with Tom. I sent him a list which he priced up and made an offer for. Initially I was unsure if it was a good price but because I saw how he priced the LPs individually I actually thought it was a very good offer. When Tom came out he was very friendly and helpful. My wife had a few LP's to sell too and he priced them up there and then and he gave me exactly what he said he would plus the extras for my wife's LPs. I would certainly recommend Tom if you have a collection to sell and you don't want to sell them individually yourself.

Found them through search engine and what a stroke of luick . Tome Fisher of Rat Records is a very easy guy to get on with and very friendly and honest with is appraisal of my collection. Obtained a good and fair price and would recommend them to anyone.
The give a door to door service where if like me you have no car it makes the sale very easy.
R. P.
I sold my collection of indie, dance and rock to Tom. He gave a clear, fair price and I would recommend Rat Records to anyone thinking of selling their records. It was a pleasure doing business with someone who cares about the music too!

Good selection of second hand vinyl & cd's

Just recently set up, arranged and sold my entire record & CD collection (over 1,000 items in total) within the space of a few days! Tom Fisher is an excellent communicator (whether by email/phone or in person) so it was very easy to make the deal with someone who is extremely enthusiastic and passionate about the music you're about to depart with. All in all, a pleasurable experience, which i'm sure can be quite traumatic for some, to be separated from the hobby they love!

An amazing place of discovery in all things music, mainly for vinyl but always with a healthy supply of inexpensive CDs. Friendly and approachable staff. Well worth the visit of you like collecting music media. Bring cash and lots of it!
S. C.
While I'm a sucker for the larger ruff-n-ready inner city vinyl exchanges and so forth dotted about town, Rat Records is my number one getaway spot. Here I enter holiday mode; zero stress vibes, lots of space, seemingly pleasant customers. Pretty much everything in the racks are priced up to sub-cost figures so there's no nipping round the corner for cafe wifi to scroll through Discogs graphs. The needles work too.
A very well run shop staffed by seriously sound gentlemen who genuinely care about doing a good job. No doubt this is all perfectly reflected in their vastly beaming reviews online.
What more can I say. Hell YEAH!

Calidad / precio muy bien. Indie, rock, rock progresivo, algo de heavy, dark black, un poco de electronica... Variado y bien de precio. Genial. /// Great quality, good value for money! Wide range of styles: rock, indie, progressive rock, a bit of electronics. Worth visiting!
M. W.
Friendly staff, mostly 2nd hand records, don't expect records from Justin Beiber. Thought shop was bigger than it really is. Records were very reasonably priced. Will go again.
L. 1.
I love this shop. They sell affordable records with facilities to listen to them before buying. I would highly recommend them.
M. R.
Good record shop this. As the reviewer below says the stock turns pretty quickly so it all depends on what's in on the day you visit but all in all worth a visit, not least because there aren't many other places to visit now.
H. F.
Super top quality second hand record shop. I always find more than a few great titles every time I'm here. Note the Saturday morning opening rush and the cash only till.
M. T.

Compared to North American cities the vinyl was overpriced. But UK pressing is superior to NA pressing but not all the records in there were from the UK.
K. B.
A favourite record shop for decades now. Rare collectible vinyl and CDs. Never over-priced.

Very unusual selection of CDs but very reasonably priced. Particularly strong on reggae CDs. Large vinyl selection and some music DVDs. Nothing for me this time but will pop in every now and again as the stock is of a type you don't really see anywhere else.
