S. F. H. C.If you are thinking about Voice Over training, then I wholeheartedly recommend investing your time and effort with The Showreel. I opted for the Voice Over Journey Package with JP and it was a wise choice. From the introduction session to the online training, and then when we finally met in person at their London Studios, JP was professional, engaged and offered way more advice and guidance than I’d expected or even hoped for.
JP has a warm, open personality which gave me a safe environment to learn and that ultimately got the best out of me. The experience was fun, and for a novice like myself, that mattered.
In a world where everyone claims to be an expert, and so few are, it was reassuring and refreshing to find myself in safe hands, with people who have the professional experience and knowledge to offer proper training.
My advice is simple; Invest your time, listen to what they have to say, allow them to guide you, and the results will amaze you.

B. T.I dived in head first, and booked a demo recording session with the Show Reel. I had no previous experience and had never set foot in a recording studio. It was fantastic! I just wanted to get and do it. Mike was great and really, patient and helpful. He gave me so many tips and great advice. I have my demo now and its beyond anything I could imagine. I am now going to look into the Voice Over Journey, perhaps a bit topsy, turvy for some, but for this has been a great way to begin to purse what has been a life long ambition. G. B.I've just had my first coaching session - the Intro to Voice Over Masterclass. And, I can tell you, it was way beyond my expectation.
We packed masses into the two hours. Seated in my own studio, there was a briefing on the voice-over industry and the different opportunities. I was given a short lesson on what was expected of me. And then I was straight into trying out some scripts.
JP Orr is very experienced and a great coach. I can already see that he can draw out out higher performance from his clients. So, I learnt a lot and I enjoyed it.

S. O.Fantastic experience working with Mike on three 1-2-1 sessions that I booked to help me prepare for my narration demo reel. We worked on numerous scripts that covered the various genres within narration. Mike was full of great advice and it was terrific to work with and learn from him. I've recently recorded my demo reel there and I'm really pleased with it.
This was my first time working at The Showreel and will definitely be recording further demo reels there.
I also took part in two workshops there recently which were highly informative and hugely enjoyable. The first was an Online Intro To Narration workshop with Craig Van Ness and the second was an Online Audiobook workshop with Tamsin Collins.
Both Craig and Tamsin were really great to work with and I learned a huge amount from them. The workshops were really comprehensive, fun, great to take part in and the feedback was enormously helpful.
All in all, very highly recommended.

K. S.I recently signed up to do the Intro to VO work session and what an amazing session it was! JP is a great teacher and producer - he put me at ease immediately, told me many funny stories throughout the session which had me laughing most of the time, which helped when reading the scripts as one of the main points of note I came away with was, "Smile! Listeners can hear it in your voice and it sounds sooo much better!". I would recommend this session to anyone looking to get into voiceover work. The feedback and direction provided throughout the session was brilliant, I learnt so much from JP and the follow up homework and feedback was even more impressive! There's a wealth of info in there to support your learning and development. Absolutely brilliant, thank you JP and The Showreel!

D. L.I signed up for three one-hour 1-2-1 vocal coaching sessions with The Showreel. In the first session, Mike my voice coach provided me with 6 commercial scripts and had me read each of the scripts twice and offered detailed feedback on my inflection, modulation, and breathing. I learned a lot but at the time I also felt a little overwhelmed, as I had to quickly process the detailed information before each re-read. I didn't realise how much I'd learned in that first coaching session until my second session with a voice coach named JP. He'd listened to my recordings from the first session and provided me with a mixture of commercial and narration scripts which would help me address the issues from the first session. JP had a slightly different teaching methodology from the first coach, but I found it very effective. I found his emphasis on melodic flow, using lead-in phrases, and physicality clicked with me. Both coaches provided me with lots of follow-up tips on how I could improve my vocal performances as well as downloads of my reads for self-evaluation. The Showreel team also sent me a link to their members clubs and to different scripts so I could continue practising. Based on my experience with two voice coaches so far, I would say that The Showreel voice workshops are a sound investment in your voice over training. Their coaching methodology is thorough, conscientious, and professional. They have many coaches with different styles. If you get a coach whose teaching style matches the particular way you learn, you can make dramatic progress in your voice over training.
H. F.Great experience and I came out of it with my first set of demo reels. Expensive, but no higher than the proper market rate, and these guys really know what they're doing. Fully pro studio in London to record your demo, great direction, and a full support package in terms of training and script preparation. I was really impressed. They were also really aware of COVI-19 restrictions, and careful to comply so that I felt safe at all points.

Looking to explore whether I might be cut out for a part-time career change into the world of voice over I was impressed by the professionalism, experience and guidance which seemed to come across from The Showreel’s website so decided to book an Intro Masterclass session. I went with high expectations but these were easily surpassed by the wealth of knowledge and feedback which JP shared, both during the session and afterwards, together with access to some highly useful resources to help with the next steps.
There has been no “hard sell”; if my experience is typical you won’t feel like just the latest client through the door but, rather, that JP takes a genuine interest in those he works with. Despite his decades in the industry he clearly retains a passion for the uniqueness of each human voice – a passion he shares with infectious enthusiasm!

I've now completed two sessions with JP Orr and the team at Showreel; the first, delivered on-site, the Introduction to Voiceover, and the second by Zoom focusing on Audiobook narration. Both these sessions were fantastic, in terms of student-tutor interaction and the wealth of information shared. JP is an incredibly engaging guide to the whole voiceover industry, imparting wisdom in a friendly and dynamic way. He's honest about the realities, pitfalls and possibilities of breaking into voiceover. You would have to go a long way to find a better tutor.
For the Audiobook course, Tamsin Collison joined JP. Highly experienced and - again - highly engaging, Tamsin is a class act with a very impressive CV as a director of both successful radio plays and audiobook narrations utilising top-billed actors. She has a tremendous talent for getting the best out of her charges (the gold standard for any director).
I got my money's worth and look forward to working with JP and his team again in the future. They've certainly whet my appetite for this business!

M. P.After deciding to begin voice over training I quickly turned to Google to look for the nearest classes. It wasn't difficult to spot "The Showreel" with its perfect 5 star rating. I'm often sceptical when reviews are this good. However, here I am, adding another 5 star rating. I didn't know what to expect going in as this was my first session with any studio/company. Firstly, I was reassured by the consistent emails to remind me of my session (especially comforting during these turbulent times) and also asking for some relevant information from me to support my lesson. On the day I was a little lost due to the studio being part of a larger building. Even so, one phone call later, I was kindly guided to the reception and promptly collected to be taken to the recording booth by JP himself. From here on out it was back to back advice on career paths, technique, direction and even banter to help ease me into this space I'd never been in before. Along with practical VO exercises and professional equipment, my first session was packed with knowledge, insight to the industry and was overall an incredible experience well worth the costs. Not to mention the immediate and extensive support/feedback following the meeting. I'm certainly no prodigy. But JP's guidance and homework makes a career feel possible if I'm willing to put in the work. Unfortunately, I can't compare to any other experiences. Despite this, I have a good feeling this is a great place to start for any aspiring Voice Over artist.
S. C.The Intro Workshop with JP was excellent. I got what I wanted out of the workshop, which was to assess whether voice over work would be something I might enjoy doing, and to get a realistic evaluation of my skills. The group size was just right too. We got a good wide-ranging overview of the voice over industry, which gave us good jumping off points for further investigation. It was great to be in an actual recording studio as it was a very good approximation of the 'real thing'. There was lots of time behind the mic and JP did a great job of putting everyone at ease. The two 1-2-1’s with Mike and Craig were also fantastic. Again, both sessions were packed with advice and suggestions. I even felt like I discovered a part of my voice I had never accessed before. L. A.I work as an actor, and I contacted The Showreel after being recommended by a fellow actor I met on a film job. I was encouraged to take part in the fabulous Introductory Workshop with JP, which proved highly useful. Not only did you get time behind the mic, but excellent constructive feedback on the best way forward from there. I then did several 1-2-1 sessions with Mike, and (with a good deal of practice at home) reached a stage where I was ready to record my demo. I was very pleased with them, and it was great to work closely with Mike to arrive at some reads which really played to my strengths and suited my voice/accent. I now have VO representation after I sent my demos out to voice agents, and I have done a VO job already!

Had a Business VO setup session with Craig last week which was very good. clarity on how to manoevure through the business side of the industry which is key, including branding, advertising,social media as a tool, TAX!! and so much more.
Had a Home studio setup session with mike on 5.8.20, very useful eye opening, lots to assimilate in little time but he manged to de-complexify what appeared to be an impossible task of voice clip modifications and editing etc. all very positive and has whetted my appetite even more. many thanks to Mike, Craig and JP for being strong pillars so far.

Having completed my demos there earlier this year and started to get work, I wanted to expand my toolset so booked on the Character Voices Day 1 and Acting for the Mic workshops. They are very good at providing you with research materials and advice before the session, but it is important to go there with as much preparation done as possible. Similarly, their information regarding agencies and the wider world of voice-over work is extensive and has been really useful for me at this early stage of my v/o career.
I was really happy with the quality of recordings that were produced and the session was relaxed and fun. I don't know a great deal about the equipment used in such recordings, but from what I could tell the studio was extremely well-equipped. Mike certainly knew his stuff and was a great source of help and advice both before, during and after the session.
I would thoroughly recommend using these guys for v/o reels and I will certainly be looking to work with them again in future. I feel it is important to reiterate the importance of preparation on your part beforehand: the guys can only do so much and the more work you are able to do in finding suitable scripts etc, the more you will end up getting out of your session.

I sourced my own scripts and he provided several which suited the style of my voice - we ended up using a mix of both and he blended them together so well in the edit I didn't need to make any changes to my commercial or narrative reel after the first blend. I also recorded an animation reel which was great fun to play around with and JP selected backing music which amplified the characters perfectly. All in all a really efficient way to record a new reel, with lots of expert tips on where to find scripts and how to distribute your work post recording.

If you're looking for a course that will give you the fundamentals of voice artistry, I can't recommend this experience highly enough. It is delivered by JP Orr, an extremely experienced voice producer and performer, who manages to impart a significant fraction of his extensive experience in a mere 6 hours. JP's quiet professionalism coupled with an extrovert sense of fun engenders a calm, relaxed atmosphere in which the student can concentrate fully on the valuable mic time and benefit from the extremely helpful direction and feedback that JP provides. The comprehensive written feedback that follows the course, usually within 24 hours, is very helpful in shaping your outlook for a potential career in the voice over industry.

M.I have experienced my first (and not last) voice over workshop training with the Showreel. The Intro Workshop was organized and managed very well. Each and every one of us on the course had plenty of time behind; what was initially thought to be a 'scary' mic ... but, as we all discovered ... not so. We were each carefully prepared via general and personalized voice over scripts that took away, any pending fears, and so, the whole experience flowed as the perfect ‘rhythm and flow’ of a perfectly orchestrated voice over script. Any nerves that we may have experienced, were, again, quickly diluted all the way down to an experience that you wanted more of. Will I choose JP and the Showreel as a whole, to take me on the rest of my voice over journey … Oh-yes! I trust no one else with my voice! My only sadness! I can only award JP (the Showreel) five stars … they deserve ten!

A. N.I did the intial workshop, one to ones and the demo reel. On the whole great fun! The workshop is a day-long affair with a small group of other people. In my case, they were a diverse, friendly bunch, all with completely different voices. It is easy to think other people's voices are 'better', but in truth they are just different. One tip I would give is to practice standing up and reading aloud before attending the first session - this was probably the biggest hurdle for most of us! One to ones are a real chance to develop and 'get it right', using reads that are suitable for your type of voice. The demo tape recording feels like a one to one, the difference being that you get to chose which reads to do and get some top quality recordings at the end of it. I would reccommend the course - to be honest I would like to do it all again, just for fun.
V. P.I had a fantastic few hours putting together some showreels with Mike. Having discussed and chosen my scripts before hand, he was organised with the appropriate music when I arrived. He has the expertise and knowledge to think on his feet and produced a new script for me when one I had chooses was not working out so well. I also received my reels back extremely quickly. I had a fun and informative session with Mike and I would highly recommend The Showreel!

The day just whizzed by and I don’t know how JP managed to get all that information across and include all those subtle one-liners along the way, but he did. Two things that really impressed me about this workshop. One was that you get everything you’re told you’re gonna get (emails, links, further info) exactly when you’re told you’ll get it. The other was that JP tells it exactly like it is, no promises, no BS, totally realistic about the industry and what it takes to be a voiceover; yet very upbeat and positive about it being possible.
I would definitely recommend the workshop. And as for the people I was with on the workshop – great bunch, great voices and a real laugh.

The prospect of creating a recording studio/booth/area at home is certainly daunting to the VO newcomer given the array of hi-tech (and potentially expensive) kit one needs to assemble and master. But Mike Charters’ course guides you gently through the maze, with theory and practice sessions that help clarify and demystify and leave you ready to set up your own system at minimal cost. An essential prerequisite to becoming a home-based VO artist.

The location was great, the information was relevant to starting out in voiceover and really helpful and detailed tips and guidance were given at the session and by email afterwards. Learning about using the voice by reading different types of script was fascinating and there was time and space to talk about the experience of recording these. Overall, the day was really good fun and relaxed. JP was very welcoming, knowledgeable and he tailored the pieces individually, giving advice on each reading. The Showreel put a lot of effort into making the sessions interesting, fun, and gave lots of tips to help build confidence. I loved the day and I am looking forward to learning more about voiceover and having more studio time there.
