Went to see A Flock Of Seagulls a few weeks ago. First time at this venue. Superb from the quality of sound, great range of beers and fantastic band. Met the owner and told him so. He asked me to write a review. A bit late but here it is. If you have never visited, I advise anyone to do so. Great night. I will return. Thank you.

Incredible venue! Went for Outrun the Sun 2021 gig for a 12 hour session, was not disappointed. Drinks were good, it was clean and tidy and the gig itself was amazing. Great place

Had a fantastic night, watching the Last Resort band. Great venue and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was amazing and can't emphasise enough how friendly the crowd was. Great place to visit. We saw a (free!) Ska band here when we visited this weekend. Lively and fun, draught red bull (!), lots going on, great sound system in the "kennel" (venue). Proper metail music playing in the outer bar. Loved it and will definitely visit again if we're in Derby.

Fantastic live music venue! The ladies toilets have just been refurbished and are now clean and lovely! They previously had a reputation for the contrary. Bar service is friendly and efficient. The prices are amazingly cheap considering its town centre location. I would highly recommend.

Really fantastic venue, the staff were very friendly & efficient. I was only in the main room for a gig but the rest of the place looked very good. Loads of seating outside too. So it catered for everyone who may be apprehensive about being in a crowded space indoors. Will definitely be back.

The location has been subject to several failed businesses not getting the formula quite right, mainly poorly lit dingy places, but I think the hairy dog has finally managed to break the curse. Bright, welcoming and a good selection of games, and you can tell it's a success with the crowds. Minor criticism would be that it would be good to have another changing real ale on, something like Thornbridge White Swan or Kelham Island Easy Rider as a decent session beer, although they do have a few cans of other beers they are usually have pretty strong A.B.Vs.

Played here with my RHCPUK tribute band in June 2021. Amazing atmosphere and a fab venue to play at. Quite deceptive from the road but its a huge place! Staging and live arena is among the best ive done. Brilliant sound crew made our show even better. Crowd were so enthusiastic and supportive amid the covid chaos! Hope to be back soon.

This is the main venue I visit for gigs in Derby and I think it's one of the best in the country in terms of sound quality, visibility of the stage and guest safety. As a disabled visitor, there is always somewhere to sit to watch the gigs; staff are more than happy to help organise anything you might need to be able to enjoy the show. I suggest contacting the Hairy Dog in advance to let them know you're coming so they can be doubly prepared. The staff are a really great bunch of people: relaxed, happy, confident and capable. Also this is a very safe place, even for a lone woman to attend, and there are very few places anywhere in the UK about which you can say that unequivocally. There have been a few reports in the press about the safety of the Hairy Dog but I have never ever, not even once, seen even an inkling of trouble happening here. Everyone is too chilled and into the music to be bothered with any argy bargy.

It's definitely one of the best live venues in the UK, the staff are friendly and helpful, the bar prices are good, the live music room is a decent size. It's also one of the only pubs in the UK that caters for alternative music and people (Goth, Punk, Psychobilly, etc),, I travel from Walsall to The Hairy Dog for gigs, it's always worth the journey.

Fantastic venue in the heart of Derby. My first visit to The Hairy Dog at the weekend and it is somewhere that must never be allowed to close. This pub is apparently having some trouble right now which is hard to believe considering how welcoming the atmosphere is. During my visits here, which granted have been few and far between, the clientele have ranged from hippies to rockers and all those in between. Never have I had a bad night here. I highly recommend this joint if you have an eclectic taste in music and want a safe and happy vibe.

One of the most random places I've ever been to. Attracts a very eclectic range of people. Beer is generally decent but is served in plastic glasses. Toilets are pretty horrific. Lots of punk/rock/metal on the dukebox. Not a family place. Dirty, grungy and proud of it. Has pool and a quiz machine. Open far later than is good for me.

One of the best old school venues I have been to in a long long time. Big enough to get a decent crowd, small enough for a great atmosphere. Great smoking areas out the front and back. Decent selection of beer (if you want guinness though, go to the main bar as opposed to the bar in the gig room. It is draft in the main bar and surger cans in the gig room) and totally reasonable. Locals seem very friendly too. The good alternative gig going folk of Derby are very lucky to have such a great venue in their city.

The Hairy Dog is an institution at this point. Don't go here if you're expecting fancy drinks, clean toilets and quiet conversations. The music is heavy and loud, the people are tattooed and hairy and the beer comes in a plastic pint pot. And quite frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. In all seriousness though, the booze is pretty cheap and they have a decent enough selection of cask ales to satisfy the discerning drinker. There is regular live music and the DJ who plays most nights is an absolute legend. He's got to be one of the most eclectic DJs I've ever met, seamlessly switching between Bob Marley and Pantera as though they were the same thing. Probably Derby's best live music venue. Definitely Derby's best rock and metal pub.

Went to derby for a training course. Nipped to a local pub for a few beers after the day passed. I bumped into some friendly locals who offered me a seat so I wasn't a loner and we later went here.
