Reviews of Little Ship Club

Corporate travel industry event by an association of tourism offices. Lovely private club atmosphere, set behind Cannon Street station, with rear terrace area overlooking Thames- with astonishing views across the river ( especially at night) with the Shard and Southwark bridge lit. Hospitality company were high quality, meal and wines most enjoyable. Comfortable seating and well spaced. Clean and modern toilet facilities. All helped make for an enjoyable educational evening.

Just an amazing beautiful club on the bank of River Thames right best door to Southwark Bridge. Fabulous ambience, comfortable seats in chesterfield type upholstery. The library had a terrific collection of books, something for everyone I believe.
The dining room especially in the evening serves tasty fresh cooked food in a very welcoming environment.
The views across the river are worth sitting down with a drink and watching all the different types of vessels passing by.
I was at one of their Tuesday evening new members and members. The menu was beef bourguignon with flavoured rice with a very delicious sauce, followed by an equally tasty freshly prepared custard and apply crumble, just like granny used to make. A great cross section of people that evening all with an interest in little ships.
I believe this Little Ships Club Is an almost hidden jewel with exceptional comfort. The appropriately named cabins instead of rooms each, with a porthole as once again befits a yacht club, with a cost to stay making it certainly more affordable than some of the local hotels and with charm.

Lovely venue with amazing staff.

Over many years my clients and I have been enjoying the friendly service, stunning views of the Thames and the Chef’s a la carte creations. Just before the Lockdown I and the Commodore of another City Yacht Club were impressed by the value for money of the soup and main of the Club Menu, which varies according to the day of the week and the Eton Mess from the main menu.
Cannot wait to get back after the restrictions are lifted.

Lovely experience. We were made very welcome and invited to enjoy all the club's amenities. Very nice club supper (Tuesday) generous portions and very reasonably priced. Nice views of the river and rooms very reasonably priced too. Enjoy.

Loved my visit to the Little Ship club today for hospitality networking lunch.

If there is one review of the LSY that you read, make sure you read this one.
The Little Ship Club is a "private" club located on the north bank of the Thames at Bell Wharf Lane, just below Cannon Station. Make sure you read my comments after the next paragraph on the club's history!!
The Little Ship Club was founded in London in 1926 by a group of yachtsmen for the purpose of providing training and lectures over the winter months. The club operates from its riverside clubhouse at Bell Wharf Lane, London. They are the only yacht club operating from within the City of London. The club's inaugural meeting was at The Ship restaurant in London on the 5th November 1926 The club moved to the Old Ship tavern in 1928, and from there to Beaver Hall in 1932, as member numbers expanded. In 1962, the club moved to Bell Wharf Lane. It shares it's space with the City Livery Club and often holds joint dinners and events.
The Club, like many other private London Clubs, historically required endorsement from one or more existing members of the Club. Even though these private Clubs claim they are "open" to anyone, the endorsement requirement effectively made joining a near impossibility unless you "knew" someone. However, due to the changing societal conditions, the Little Ship Club has been struggling with declining membership for a number of years with resultant financial concerns for it's ongoing viability at it's current location. Since about 2016 the Club has been open to accepting applications for membership without the existing member endorsement requirement which means it's one of the very few, if not only, private club located not only in London, but in the City of London, that you can actually join.
And what a deal the above is. The Club is open for lunch Monday - Friday for members, and offers a spectacular A La Carte and Fixed menues. The Club also has lectures and meetings on Tuesday nights throughout the year with a fixed menu Club dinner following the lecture or event. Here again the meals are first class, in a location that can't be beat on the bank of the Thames, and the prices are very inexpensive. The Club also offers "Cabins" - rooms for members to rent at a fraction of the price of local hotels. And although the Club is usually busy with City Livery Club members during the day, you can usually find a nice quiet corner to read, visit with friends or other activities offered by membership. Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend one of the Tuesday evening events to see what the Club has to offer - for only the price of the membership event ticket. It just doesn't get any better than that! There is parking at the Club and it is handicap accessible in all aspects.
If the above appeals to you and you are interested, contact the Club secretary through the LSC website for more details.
About me - I have been a member now for three years and I love it. I go to most of the Tuesday evening events as well as have lunch at the Club on a regular basis. I am writing this review as someone who likes it for what it is and has to offer as a Club first. The fact that it has so many connections and opportunities to the boating (little ship) world is the topping on the desert that it is. Highly recommended, and suggest you check it out for yourself!!
