First time attending this venue. Saw We Were Promised Jetpacks play and was impressed with what a nice space this is. High, bare brick walls give the venue a bit of personality lacking in quite a few London music venues.
H. D.
In my opinion, one of the finest London nightclubs. The sound system is like nothing else, so loud yet so crisp. Security are friendly and respectful, the toilets are clean, the atmosphere is second to none. What more could you ask for?
H. S.
This is just one the best venues in London. Great sound system, reasonably priced drinks. Always something interesting on the lineup and the staff are phenomenal (unlike a lof of these kinda places).
Great if you like your electronic music.
D. D. S.
Though a relatively small, it was a great venue and the concert felt intimate
M. R.
Awesome venue, well run, good non alcoholic drink options - great for intimate gigs
V. W.
Love this venue. Saw Fideles here on Saturday night just gone. I’ll definitely be back.
The bar staff were friendly, the door staff were pleasant, even when full it was never too hectic or hot - all in all a massive YES
S. P.
700 capacity venue in Shoreditch, around a ten minute walk away from Old Street station. Excellent sound and lighting. Bar prices are reasonable. Would happily go back to see more bands here.
D. M. D.
Brilliant club!!!
Sound system and lighting was on point. Great atmosphere and selection of drinks
F. F.
One of my favourite venue for gigs. Super nice place with good acoustic and friendly staff. It's always a pleasure to go there!
E. H.
We went to a really nice party and had a lot of fun! Good DJ and nice atmosphere. Diverse crowd. Music somewhat too loud for me personally. Would definetly recommend.
D. J.
Went here to see Guided By Voices. Great little sweatbox of a venue with a brilliant atmosphere for live music but didn't seem geared up for a sell-out event resulting in very long queues around the block - we arrived a good half-hour before the band were due onstage but only only just made it in before the gig started. Drinks were extortionate but that's just Shoreditch.
D. O.
Got to say I was very impressed!
Loved the venue, nice atmosphere and the staff and security were amazing!
Can’t wait to make it out out again @ village underground
B. W.
Brilliant venue. Felt very safe, staff were friendly and drinks a reasonable price.
Sound system and lighting were massive.
D. B.
I really rate this as a venue. Friendly door staff, friendly/quick bar staff. Excellent lighting and sound. Couldn't fault it.
D. T.
Interesting venue, perfect gig type venue. Was there for a corporate event so was presented well.
Imagine the toilet situation can be difficult, long queues.
Easy to get to, near stations.
F. D.
Great venue and fantastic lights/sound. Drink prices high but cheaper than some other similar clubs so not too bad
D.
Great intimate concert venue/art space. The staff were all polite and friendly. The acoustics were quite good as well. The washroom was also well maintained.
J.
Small but good venue, drink prices are extremely high
U. R. O.
Amazing venue, compact but can fit about 700-800 people - overall a great experience
S.
Favourite place for live music in London. Amazing sound system. Beautiful venue
O. C.
Excellent lively venue in a buzzing location. . Very easy to get to.. cool inside, high ceiling exposed brickwork building with archways and the bar doesnt get too crazy. A nice size for small/medium gigs, worth following for up-and-coming artists. Less than 10 mins walk from Liverpool St and Old St Station. Free Parking after 7 nearby, oh and The sound system bangs..!!
N. F.
Stock up at the bar because you'll be waiting a long time to be served. Sound system is very good, toilets are far too small for the number of people they cram in at the events. People mainly here to take selfies and videos of the light show not really here to dance. Not like it used to be.
D. S.
Great venue and stage was awesome- all standing but could see even from the back. Unfortunately the security were so over the top in my experience. an over 16s event but ID is required to even enter the venue? not many 16 year olds have ID other than their passport which they could lose in the venue. And the smoking area felt like a cattle shed. You were not allowed re entry once you had left the gates so they had a tiny gated area to fit many people outside which meant there was a queue to go outside! And nowhere to get a breath of fresh air because the outside area was filled with smoke. Also £2 per item in the cloakroom is extortionate!
P. B.
Great venue. High ceiling and great acoustics, definitely not a dive
G. A.
Saw Oscar Jerome, awesome lights and great sound in the venue! The warm up acts were great and the night was really well organised. Drinks on the expensive side though, and there was a short queue to go outside and smoke, but other than that, really good.
J. g.
The space is better for gigs than club nights. Not least because of the weird and deliberately intimidating bouncers!
T. T.
I saw Guided By Voices - the greatest band of all time - here, so of course my memories of this place are nothing but extremely positive.
Expensive beer though.
l.
Big and spacious venue where quite a lot of gigs are held. Drinks are bit pricey though, beer cans for the price of a pint. Sound as well is not the best, probably because of the arch structure it has.
M. G.
Nice venue with good concerts and amazing lights! - the only thing is the sound wasn’t adjusted well a couple of times and drinks are very expensive.
S. R.
Very loud, great for raves, special thanks to Jade who was staffing the bar, very friendly and efficient, made my night! Thanks 😄
D. T. d. G.
we celebrated NYE here and it was a blast from the past!
The thema was Blitz (for the ppl that don't know....its 1940 and the Germans bomb London). Swing dancing, ration cards, everyone in 1940 gear.... we loved it. Best NYE party since I was 20.... ;)
F. I.
What a lovely venue that creates a cozy crazy space for attendees. There's a spot for anyone and everyone, elevated, up front, far back with dancing room. I recommend buying a ticket and going to check out Village Underground
J. B.
Like stepping back in time to the 1940 top class would recommend to anyone who's in to this ...I'm from the northeast of England n I would definitely make the effort to come again
G. K.
Such a great venue for the UK jazz scene to shine in.
C. A.
Such a great venue - some of the best nights and dnb of my life!
M. M.
Ok, toilets and sound system can be improved. Cans of beer too expensive, no re-entry thus bring cash because I haven’t been able to use my credit card.
D. P.
Good space and great sound. Had some epic nights in this venue. Black Butter Records and the night dedicated to Kemistry. I can highly recommend.
A. H.
Also nights every time before here amazing sound made some bar staff
G. L.
JMSN was amazing. Fun venue, simple and great for a night out...even on a wet Tuesday night!
M. C.
Very good venue! I have been to many events there so far. Nice community, good artists, and affordable tickets and drinks. Located in the heart of Shoreditch
D. H.
Great venue for techno parties. Suitable air conditioning and high ceilings. Staff are kind and responsible.
D.
Saw Hopsin tonight, sound system was unbelievable, my DJ friend said even he could pick up on every note (apparently that's a big deal for him)... really good night!
V. D. (.
Vilage Underground offices was open for Open House London on Saturday 16th September 2017.
J. C.
This is a wonderful venue. Fantastic crowd of knowledgeable music fans. The sound is amazing here, a perfect sized venue. They always host fantastic acts. One of my favourite gig venues in London. Love it 👍
A. P.
I visited last Sunday for the first time for Channel One Sound System event. I found Security to be friendly and professional including the compulsory search.
Entering inside venue, the strong smell of damp. Ugh! It's an arch, I get it but a turnoff but after awhile I'd (grudgingly) gotten use to it... Seems a lack of toilets, only saw 3 for women. Feel sorry for the staff attendee couped up in that tiny space!
At Bar if you don't want ice you are served less than 200ml of lukewarm and insipid tasting supposed-juice drink, which to me equates to the cheapest of the cheap box drink charged at a high mark-up price to the customer! So I guess with ice, whilst the drink would obviously be cold, it would be tasteless! Bottled water same lukewarm temperature.
Catering on the night included authentic-tasting rice n peas with chicken and salad and a really nice hot sauce. Definitely enjoyed!
A hit with the music, food and door staff and security but so-so venue with an expensive bar.
S. M.
Great intimate concert venue in Shoreditch. Not to big or too small, but perfect for seeing your favourite up-and-coming band. Not so great if you're short stuff and the tall people are in front because then you will see nothing but the backs of the tall people and maybe a tiny sliver of light of what might be your beloved band. Good acoustics. Bar accessible but off to the side, as is fitting and right.
A. R.
Cracking venue, great sound and only a brisk walk from Liverpool St or Old St tube.
Drinks prices are stiff but in line with most of London's venues
J. F.
Went for a techno party to this club and I liked the place. Very well organized by the staff. Will go again if there any more techno parties with known artists.
A. C.
Very good venue to watch gigs, it jas good sound and it's big enough to feel like you are in a crowd but still holds an intimate feel to it. The bar could be better, there is no taps but their selection of drinks is decent. Security could be friendlier but I've seen worse, make sure you bring an ID with you!
V.
Lovely venue. Great the use of space to create good atmosphere for music. A little humid when packed but that's the price of a popular gig. Bar was big enough for the size.
S. B.
Went to see the glitch mob, the event got delayed by 2 hours but was still amazing
F. P.
I've been there for a gig yesterday. I like the intimate stage. But it was very warm inside, no fan or air conditioning...
A. S. (.
Everything's great, just make sure you bring some cash as the minimum spend on card for drinks is £10.
Just so happens that every time a band we want to see in London they are playing at this venue, so I've been here many times now.
Nice sound and lighting, friendly staff and fellow showgoers. Oh yeah, and the security team are surprisingly kind.
Only good experiences from this venue.
f. r.
this venue is so small, intimate and incredible! i came here to see 'Lane 8' and he put on such a good show! it was sold out and the line moved quickly to the point where it felt like it wasn't even that busy but inside it was shoulder to shoulder. the sound system and acoustics were great and that also includes the lighting and production
J. H.
Wonderful venue for live music.
P.
A great place for a night out.
They said no to plastic straws before it was trendy. Good work
The place is very well run, you don't have to queue long for a drink as the are enough staff to serve and there are plenty of toilets too.
They generally get great house acts on, can't say I have seen any bands here. The sound system is always on point too.
M. M.
It's a really fun place to watch a gig, small and atmospheric. It's a bit easy to walk past if you don't know where it is though!
L. a. R.
A great music venue, and the stage lighting really adds to the atmosphere along with the music. Nice tall ceiling means the sound is great, and also makes it a little less sweaty than a lot of venues this size.
So, why the three star? As good as the music is here, unfortunately they let themselves down with the alcohol prices. More than £5 for a 330ml beer really is way over the top, easily more than any other live music venue I frequent. It really is taking advantage of a captive audience, as there is no readmission, who have a choice of extortionate prices or a sober night. Not a venue I would choose to go to if I had a choice of gigs, as I often do.
B. S.
Brilliant club, and great space filled with exposed brickwork and nice features. Had some great nights here, getting throughly lost & found in the small hours!
r. l.
Great soundsystem and location, never too full either. Only downside there is nowhere to sit down and have a break from dancing. Given its open until 0600 you need somewhere to sit and re-group between sets!
J. M.
This venue is so tight. Played here and the staff was really terrific, the sound was the best of the entire tour (shout out to side stage monitor guy!), but mostly, it was super fun. Would love to visit again and see more shows at this spot.
s. w.
Nice venue, Could do with some beer on tap.
S. P.
Good sized venue of maybe 300/ 400? Great acoustics. Bar a bit pricey especially as they have a no re- admission policy. Door staff good and professional, they require everyone to have ID and I'm Methuselah!
A. M.
I've been here a few times. Shoreditch already has a culture so the crowds here are interesting and the bouncers are nice and friendly.
Decent but small venue in an exciting place. Long queue for ladies toilets which are small.
Wish it was larger with better graphic branding/decor and more diverse variety of DJ's.
M. R.
A great little venue with a solid sound system and a decent lighting setup, Village Underground has become one of East London’s best gig spaces. Cut into what must have been old railway arch or warehouse depot, its cavernous architecture and vaulted ceiling provide a brilliant sonic experience for music fans, and helps generate an interesting unique atmosphere. The bar staff are friendly and the security is tight, but as you might expect drinks are a little overpriced. Nevertheless, I’ve seen some great live acts here and will continue to do so as long as they keep being booked!
W. M.
Pretty good venue - great atmosphere, cosy
A. H.
My favourite venue in London. Great space, big bar and awesome sound quality
R. T. D.
Great event space, visited for @pour_drink symposium
C. M.
Excellent venue with quality music every time and craft beer and cider. Can get a bit hot at times but otherwise brilliant with space to dance and a decent chill out area.
A. V.
Great place. Good artists. I will definitely come back soon!
A.
A fantastic mid sized venue. Acoustics are great and sight lines are easy to find (no annoying pillars will block your views, and the stage is set high enough to account for even the tallest of fellow gig goers). More importantly, the bar and loos are easy to access and don't force you to wander far from the action.
To top it off, the venue features enough exposed brick, warehouse appeal, and vaulted archways to appease even the most hesitant hipster.
o. r.
It's a nice venue, but £4.80 for a small 330ml can of Estrella isn't something I want to repeat. With no option of a pint only small expensive cans. The band's and atmosphere was good.
V. M.
Steadily becoming a stalwart on the local scene. A really excellent venue with a powerful soundsystem - perfect for the techno-centric lineups they have here. The space has character and their in-house night Superstition is worth checking out. They also hold gigs here too, and the place works great as a gig venue actually.
Simple layout - just one room, one stage, one bar. Easy enough. The bar can get busy at times with long queues but not unbearable. The toilets can be problematic though, females watch out for the queues here.
I appreciate VU's work over the years as they've managed to operate successfully in rather merciless conditions in the Hackney area. As with all clubs in London at the moment their position is delicate, but hope they manage to power on for many more years. Pay a visit for a rather authentic clubbing experience in the heart of east London.
K. A.
fun venue if you like a good rave, big enough to find your own space. small enough to not get lost. I found the tickets a bit pricey at £20
A. S.
A generally good crowd (though not too enthusiastic), with a large, spacious dance floor that never gets too hot and has an interesting light show. Hosts some great techno nights. Clean toilets.
My gripes: the drinks are ridiculously priced, one of the most expensive I've ever seen (£6 for single mixer, £8 for double) and the queue for the bar is huge! (20 min wait sometimes). The toilet queue is also about a 10 minute wait. The bouncers aren't friendly and walk heavy-handedly through the crowd. There is also NOWHERE to sit - please fix this! In a club that fits 1000 people I found one bench that seats three. The smoking area is also way too small.
4/5 because the music was great and people stayed partying until the early hours.
N. H.
Great music venue, always filled with great vibe but poor bar choices. Beer is only in small cans and stuff throws glass bottles in the bins during concerts which can be a bit disturbing.
A. S.
One of my favourite venues in London. Love the size and the feel of the place. The soundsystem is one of the better ones in the city too.
Only negative is during the all night parties security constantly shoving through the middle of the crowd.
C. F.
This venue is beautiful. I can understand easily that they have the ability to be versatile in their booking options (Concerts, receptions, weddings). The space is perfect for intimate gatherings without feeling commercial.
Being from another country, I did stand across the street with my head tilted in confusion as to if this was the right place. There are no signs to tell you that the location is there, but trust the google location.
I was here for Hobo Johnson and The Lovemakers, they did an amazing job... but that’s another story.
M. T.
Very cool venue. We parked in Stratford and caught the tube in.
Our evening was with Influx magazine which was really good. The venue catered and the food was really nice. Bar staff were great, friendly and funny.
V. P.
Great venue. Went to see a 5 piece band and it was so intimate, fantastic.
Definitely a great venue for music, but also a really cool venue for other events.
And for us girls... The toilets were clean, paper available and the sinks were clean too!
L. J.
Free gig, great venue and sound.
C. D.
This is the perfect club, polite, respectful security, amazing sound system and lights and an all round great atmosphere - smoking area is a bit tight but hey, that’s no biggie. Highly recommend this great independent venue run by respected industry professionals
I. P.
Impressed with the club staff very chill and respecful to the people which for me is most important for a club (apart from a guy that was working on the smoking area), and one more little thing is seating space, a chill room would be great or little bit more benches, and maybe bigger smoking area.
J. J.
Nice interior, staff are lovely, prices for drinks are what you expect from downtown london
J. t.
Great venue. Not overpriced on the beer either. £4.50 pint aspals...Not bad for a venue in London.
Great acoustics for the Lissie gig I went too. Would go again anytime.
M. “. O. K.
Great big airy venue but when the music is right you'll still end up a sweaty mess and find yourself staggering out into the cool night air with wobbly legs and a smile on your face.
Drinks are a reasonable-ish £5, at least they are cold, which isn't the case for most venues...
J. T.
My new favourite club in London. Great crowd, great vibes, great sound, friendly staff. Obsessed!
B. T.
Probably my favourite night venue in London! The brick walls and vault gives it so much character and makes it a very versatile venue. I have been there for club nights (djs) live concerts and private events such as art previews and dinner events and every time the venue was perfect. I have only recently found out that there are huge windows on vault and they can be opened!!
T. D.
Came for an electro gig. 3 stars for the great sound quality and the high ceiling. However, relatively long queue at the entrance, stage is low so can't even see the dj, drinks are same price as any big venues. Toilets quite small. Clockroom queue at the entrance is a bit of a mess. Overall the place is a bit overrated.
M. W.
We saw Oma Apollo, who was great. Prince meets Mick Jagger plus some. One of my favourite venues, but the door is extraordinarily badly managed. No need for the long queues, but they don't seem to care. No barcode reader in sight. Just leafing through pages and pages of names. Thankfully it wasn't raining. All but missed the support act.
P. B.
Incredible place to party! Lights are nice, music is incredible and the sound is of very good quality.
The prices are not excessive.
It's definitely a place to go if you want to dance and have fun!!
R. C.
Great sound, and always have good artists performing
B. H.
Brilliant gig venue. Beers are expensive (£4 for a 330ml can) but are of a good quality. Atmosphere is great however there should really be a curtain between the bar and the concert hall as the chatter and general bar sounds during a concert can be very distracting.
S. J.
Amazing venue built under two intersecting railway arches. Sounded surprisingly good for such an odd size. Clean toilets. Quickly served at Bar.
Would go again without hesitation.
J. H.
I didn't realise how much I value a high ceiling in a club until I went to Village Underground. Great sound system. Even greater ceiling height. Would recommend.
B. B.
Striking and unique space with the old brick walls and high narrow room making it ideal for gigs and events alike. The sound had been pretty good in my experience. As is often the case in East London however, the drinks prices are painfully inflated, especially when you get given beer in a 330cl can
d. V. z.
I have been to this place twice now, both for techno nights. The room itself has great potential as it has atmosphere - high ceiling and a dark cavernous appearance. The sound system could be better - uneven, with high freq. being muffled likely due to the size of the venue and brick walls.
The biggest problem in this place is that event bookers or the manager can't seem to set a limit for capacity. Both times I have been here it has been overcrowded to the point where it was impossible to enjoy an evening for what it was. Added to this the loo's are a joke - far too small for a place of this size.
On the plus side the security and staff in here are attentive and friendly, not something you find everywhere in London.
M. B.
Always have fun there, good place positive vibes
T. H.
A great creative space that's probably best known as a live music venue, but in fact offers a programme of all sorts of cultural activities. Beautiful to look at and a wonderful space, although the cavernous shape means that the sound isn't fantastic when live music is on.
F. S. S.
Good club with great music and interesting events. Gets quite packed and we could not leave our coats at the cloakroom and had to wait half an hour. The club was to stuffed, but when we got rid of our coats we totally enjoyed the experience.
B. F.
Straightforward venue hosting your occasional amazing drum n bass parties. For a Shoreditch based venue it feels rather normal and less garbagy than its grotesque neighbours such as Cargo. 5 pound beer as well
r. n.
Its a good venue, there isn't enough toilets for the women especially. The security was cool on the door but busying themselves inside.
I. d. C.
Love the venue. Powerful immersive Soundsystem great line ups. Nice staff. Only con is the overselling of events resulting in queues for toilets, smokers area and bar
M. F.
Nice relaxed venue but could do with some seating -- was mostly an older crowd at the gig I saw so would have been nicer if the space was more accommodating
N. P.
Old street area has changed a lot last few years, most used-to-be-good club turned very touristy, mainstream and commercial these day... but luckily seem Village Underground is still one holds it's" underground" vibe, providing good live, electronic and experimental music events .... drink price is not cheap, but it is still a fairly reasonable for London standard. It is one of my favourite club in London.
A. L.
Such a good venue and sound system. Bar staff are suspiciously friendly for saying it's always rammed and they actually provide free water to keep the punters hydrated. Keep doing what ya doing
D. A.
A trendy arts and music space situated close to Shoreditch High Street Station. The venue is quite large with a very high roof and has a good sound system and accoustics however when seeing a gig there is a bar to the side which makes the capacity bigger but if you find yourself stood there you will have a massively restricted view. The drinks are quite pricey when I was last there, it was £3.50 fro a small can of beer which was outrageous.
N.
Great venue, great acoustics and great ticket price at £7 each!
The security were pretty strict but all there to keep us safe...
N. R.
Amazing venue for the hottest dance music, in fantastic industrial surroundings in the heart of Shoreditch. Great sound system, good lighting rig, decent beers, and music-foreward booking policy.
M. F.
Fantastic atmospheric venue. Loved it.
D. B.
Small exposed brick club that seems over trendy. It attracts some good music, particularly electronica. Decent range of drinks that doesn't include the main stream rubbish. I believe it is run as a charity so kudos for that since I think most clubs are out just to rip punters off, hence I won't complain about high prices of drinks in this case, this is London after all.
K. L.
Cute little venue, no sitting unfortunately but not a problem
Drinks are reasonably priced, the ear plugs are free if you ask which is a blessing
M. A.
Great venue Bug Out event and Underworld Live excellent night had.
s. F.
Been in London for a while now and the best venue I've been in, is Village Underground! Surrounding system and the lights are just insane!
Yesterday was After Life event at VU and someone stole my bag that has my passport, wallet, rings, pack of cigs and a lighter inside of it! When I noticed that bag wasn't with me anymore, I told the security and there is not one person that didn't help! They were all super nice and helpful! They found it but unfortunately my cardholder wasn't inside or the packs of cigs HAHA how cheap! If you ever get to read this message, just want to let you know that you did not spot my watch or rings but took an empty wallet with cards with pin codes!
Thank you so much VILLAGE UNDERGROUND!
Much Love,
SasyKlasy.
O. J.
Visited the Village Underground for the first time to see the most excellent Kate Tempest. Incredible show in a fantastic space which was beautifully lit and had an ass kicking sound system and even a few tasty beers to sink during the show. Well worth a visit!
C. M.
Very atmospheric, reminiscent of the old days, where serious artists could be seen in a small venue. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Would definitely go again - it doesn't matter what age you are. Anything goes, a real mixed crowd.
E. B.
Love this venue. From the security to the bar staff everyone is helpful and friendly they know how to deal with people unlike some places I have been to.
N. G.
Very nice and creative place.
I have had a grate time.
V. T.
I have been to the Village Underground twice for the Blitz Party. Both expereinces were a trip back to 1939 without the bomb threats. This was a serious party, where people took pride in the way they dressed to ensure they complied with the time's fashions. No one looked like they in costumes, and if anyone was, it was obvious and strange. People really went out of their way to wear authentic clothes from the that time. Men wore uniforms, women wore dresses with bright red lipstick and their hair up in Victory rolls. The setting is also perfect because the Village Underground is an old warehouse with only windows on the ceiling, so you did get the feel you were in some kind of shelter. There was a live swing band performing that were so very talented. There were ladies there doing girls' hairdos for free with Victory rolls and such. The people are creative, relaxed and friendly. My only recommendation is make sure you dress in layers when you go to the Village Underground. Outside can be cold and inside can be scorching hot. I highly recommend the Blitz Party at the Village Underground.
S. B.
Great venue for live music and socialising. There was space to rave, and space you could chat in as well. Excellent friendly staff and overall a great experience.
J. D.
Decent live music venue with a few craft beers behind the bar
M. G.
One of my favourite venues in London, truly bizarre layout but the quality of the artists on the lineup are really the cream of music scene in London. Tip, when you get in, just make your way for the far wall - way less people and more room for dancing!
S. D.
Beautiful venue - tube carriages on the roof, really high ceilings, gorgeous loos (much prettier than most club ones) and two interlocking rooms that are used by club nights, gigs, brand parties and all sorts - if you've been out in Shoreditch more than a handful of times, you're likely to end up here.
L. S.
AN AMAZING place just 5 min from Liverpool Street, this incredible venue hosting affordable artists studios in former shipping containers and metro tubes, incredible live music shows, thought through conferences, epic parties and great exhibitions. This independent (one of the last ones in this neighborhood!) cultural center is worth wile supporting! X
C. G.
Gah. I want to love this place, the staff are lovely but the sound quality just isn't good enough to get over the fact that I want to punch most of the people that go there in the face. They do at least have cracking cider which is rare for a club!
b.
Strange place! A big open space one side with very high ceilings and then a bar under some archways.
Not the easiest place to find as I walked right past it! Needs a little more signage at the front for sure.
Atmosphere is really good and the sound pretty decent if occasionally effected by the cavernous ceilings.
Drinks are really really expensive. Ridiculous really.
Defo unique!!
n. l.
Went for the NYE Blitz party which was AMAZING! The staff were so helpful and friendly: my partner uses a wheelchair, and truly, their assistance and support made all the difference. Thank you!
S. D.
This spacious, slightly cavernous venue has played host to some pretty big names, as well as more generic, low key nights. It's grimy in a way that only works in Shoreditch - expect a lot of Red Stripe at the bar and sticky surfaces.
The dance floor is huge and although it's a very open venue, the toilets are totally inadequate - there aren't enough of them. It's also a total nightmare to get out of here in a hurry, which is quite dangerous in the wrong circumstances. Last time I was here someone actually dropped pepper spray resulting in a scary stampede of wheezing, coughing people all heading for the exit at once.
M. S.
Great venue for a night out. We saw Underworld here and it was an excellent night out. Being a smaller venue for a gig you get more immersed in it. Best Underworld Gig we've been to by far.
M.
I went to the Death Grips show here in October 2016. It was great.
M. P.
A small intimate performance venue, reasonable range of drinks with fairly reasonable prices (£11 for spirit, mixer and a can of craft beer). Has the shoreditch no frills vibe, which adds to the atmosphere.
X. W.
Ever been through Shoreditch and wondered why there are tube trains on top of one of the buildings? This is that building. It's a beautiful creative space for arts and music. There are regular gigs here from up and coming artists and established artists looking to treat their fans. The last time I went it was for an 'unplugged' gig - no amps, no PA, no microphones - even the room was lit by candles! A beautiful setting for some diverse culture.

Village Underground is an impressive venue with a post-industrial vibe, just make sure you have a few drinks before you go. Went to see Public Broadcast Service (who were very good) and the only beer available at the bar was in small aeroplane sized cans.
Why don't venues learn that decent drinks at a fair price, means people might get there early and spend more over the bar?
K. L.
Lovely little venue for intimate gigs. Only fault was making us queue for ages as ticket scanners weren't working but not sure entirely if that was venues fault.
d. k.
We went to vusit Village Underground to watch a live music gig. The venue was amazing and quite big on the inside. The lighting added to the mood of the performance! All in all, it was a great experience for a live performance.
A. F.
Took some time to get through the queue though not very long (no cover is weather is bad). Venue itself is very cool interesting space for an intimate music gig
C. B.
One of my favourite live venues. Cool vaulted ceilings and great ambiance. Small enough to feel intimate, but big enough to get crazy.
G. a.
Myself and my Lovely wife just watched Anna of the Norrh @ Village Underground
Anna is a wonderfully talented lady full of energy and building up a great list of excellent songs and the venue despite the exterior appearance was quite good once inside
M. L.
It's no coincidence that Village Underground is in Shoreditch as it really is the epitome of a hipster venue.
The exposed brickwork walls stretch upwards for an eternity and coupled with the archways and two tiered floor space create a cavernous effect despite the building being above ground.
It's only big enough to hold two or three hundred people but this increases it's allure. The sparse interior design also adds to the appeal, venues like this don't need dressing up and filling with trinkets.
However a venue is nothing without an event, right? Well it seems the folk at Village Underground have got this well sussed and you will find a myriad of things going on here.
Lots of up and coming artists lined up to play small intimate gigs at cheap prices which usually sell out. They are helping the hipsters of London fulfill their mission of being able to claim "I saw them before they were big" and they are doing it well.
I. C.
A superb small venue in the heart of buzzy Shoreditch. I was fortunate to see Neneh Cherry showcase her new album 'Broken Politics' backed by FourTet. Her intimate and personal compositions suited the Village vibe and the enthusiastic audience. It reminded me of some of the smaller venues I saw Neneh perform with The Slits, Rip Rig & Panic and the New Age Steppers back in the 80s. Recommended for music lovers and O2 dodgers!
D. R.
Great venue but sound system could maybe be a bit louder . Acoustics sound a little boomy due to such high ceilings in the venue.
M. S.
Great little venue, so close to the artists and fantastic sound. Very cosy and intimate under the arches.
J. H.
Great for events...huge space. Very dark and ackward steps inside. The toilets could be a lot more glamorous but it does the job.
A.
Great venue, shame it has such a bad smoking area... Even if you're not a smoker, lack of empty space for fresh air is bad
M. T.
Went to see The Polyphonic Spree - one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Feels like it has more atmosphere and enthusiastic crowd than most London venues.
J. P. d. O.
Awesome place!! The sound was very good!
We went to a sold out event and it was too full thought
P. M. B.
Really cool and spacious venue. The entry cheks are a bit slow so we were left queueing on the pavement for quite some time.
B. A.
One large room with an underground church feel. Bar is easily accessible from the dance floor and always good to be able to take drinks outside.
P. F.
Incredible venue, great sound, BUT.... There's a waiting queue to get to the smoking area and a crazy queue at the loos. Service, well, let's just say, there could be more smiley faces.
D. J.
Great cavernous venue, high ceiling exposed brickwork. Great atmosphere. Friendly bar staff. All in all a good venue well worth a visit
A. A.
Great sound system and decent venue, wasn't oversold so had a great time 😄
F. P.
Great venue with one of the best sound system in London. Great gigs and events all year round. Drinks are expensive.
A. V. L.
Bamboleo was lit, cigarette smoke would rise to the dance floor but otherwise it was a fab experience. Friendly people and clean atmosphere
P. L.
If you frequent Shoreditch, you'll know this place from the infamous old Tube carriages it has on display on its roof. The curved tunnel brickwork inside is very cool, and the high ceilings mean that it stays relatively cool even when really busy. Drinks are pretty expensive for the area, but it has a good sound system and hosts fun nights. It is also handily located next to Shoreditch High Street station.

*CHANGING THIS REVIEW TO 5 STARS DUE TO COMPREHENSIVE RESPONSE FROM V.U. OPERATIONS TEAM WHO HAVE DEALT WITH THE MATTER* Humiliated by the door staff because he mistakenly thought i was avoiding body search. He then proceeded to treat me like some sort of reprobate and demanded that i not speak. He called over supervisor who didn't even look at me and just exclaimed within earshot that if i have a problem with being searched then i should leave. I then had to apologise to junior just to be let in. He couldn't speak to me like a human. Is this what prison feels like?? Thanks a lot guys, completely ruined my day.
J. T.
We've been to a hip hop event called Living Proof. The quality of music act was on point, on the downside however you get scum flexing and pushing in up to the bar.
O. O.
Great reggae experience
B. B.
Brilliant venue, all the time in the world for its sound system, the acts they put on, and quality of productions. Love it.
M. K.
With Livin Proof, the best clubbing ever..! GOD DAMN VIBE AND MUSIC.
S. G. C. L.
Amazing venue! Just get beer on draft and dont charge 5 quid for the smallest tinny ever and it would be perfect
D. B.
Very cool venue.
I. C.
One of my favourite venues small but vibrant (don't forget to take id regardless of age)
H. C.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent, fabulous assortment of cheese too! I started with the scallops and had salmon for main, alongside a creamy rioja!
m. h.
Good venue, sound system is decent, with friendly cloakroom staff, but poor ventilation could be improved.
D. H.
The best music venue in London hands down, cannot find a better configured sound system
J. H.
Fantastic venue for gigs and events, the sound system is really good. Get there early as the space itself is only small.
D. K.
Came here for skunk anansie gig. Loved the venue! Not too extortionate on drinks, clean accessible loo, easy to get to and a good size.
N. L.
Cool venue, but, they threw me out, assaulted me and accused me of smoking weed, which I hadn't done. Sound system was ok but engineer was lazy.
G. S.
The layout means that when the venue is full some may struggle to view the stage. Drinks are particularly expensive.
O. d.
Excellent music venue, good size stage, nice sound, even at the front.
M. B.
Great in terms of location as it sits between Liverpool Street Station, Shoreditch High Street and Old Street, the actual space is basic but it suits an afterhours-club incorporating period features like orginal brick arches and Edison bulb lamps but the details let it down somewhat as the sound system lacks deep bass, there's absolutely no seating and an annoying minimum spend of £10 on the bar. Having said that they pull some of the best emerging talent including juat recently Tale of Us.
D. J.
Rodigan's Roots & Branches was wikkid! Friendly, helpful(and gorgeous) bar staff, quality security, nuff respect. And the sound inside the place? Bangin'!!
B. V.
Saw Alfa Mist here. Phenomenal atmosphere in a unique setting. Best venue I've ever been too.
J.
I've visited a few times and the sound system seems to get a better on each occasion. Some people don't agree, but maybe I've been lucky. Can recommend!
A. F. A.
Had an amazing & exciting time there. Went for a Paula Temple gig and it was great. Hoping to be back soon!
L. F.
Really nice music venue.
J. S.
I came here for an electro party - the sound was pretty good, the crowd was pretty weird, and the space was alright. It's really just a large warehouse, and the outdoor/smoking area is tiny.
S. G.
Great place, friendly staff and the sound system is astonishing ! Will definitely comme back for another night of techno music
e. o.
Fantastic little venue.......if you aint been yet then get ur self down there....good nite out
C. P.
One of London’s finest music clubs. You will have a great night dancing here. Not cheap but worth it.
H. J.
Awesome place! Rustic and magic at the same time. Nice acoustic sound. Totally worth it!
J. K.
One of the best live venues in east London right now. Excellent range of acts and decent sound.
J. O.
Excellent venue, polished yet raw. Sound system on point. Would happily go back there.
T. B.
Very nice venue, but pricey drinks. Overall, it was good.
A. S.
Nice music, pleasant atmosphere. Great night out even though it was Sunday
P. K.
At the bar the only available lager comes in a small can, and I paid slightly different prices each time during the night.
T. E.
The venues just right - big enough to have great acts but small enough to feel an intimate performance.
W. D.
quite a good venue for events but drinks are very expensive with no offers for them.
S. d. M.
This is a brilliant venue ! I spent ones of the best nights of life in there ! Great music, great staff, great everything ! highly recommended !
S. R.
Brilliant space. Great sound and lighting for Underworld live. No queue at bar (how rare?!) and friendly security
d. j.
First time I've ever been there and I loved it absolutely brilliant night
P. P.
Nice venue, not too big not too small. Vibe depends on gig obviously. Queue for anything as standard in shoreditch clubs
D. N.
Excellent, good bar and door staff. Had a great time for DJ Kemistry's 20th was overall great atmosphere
D. C.
Very interesting and unusual venue, good acoustics and beer. Bit cramped if sold out.
S. D.
Nice medium sized venue known for booking a variety of top level talent. Good sound system too.
T. S.
Good night our, i liked the fact it was not crowded! Shame about the beer cans. Why not do proper draft beer?
J. R.
one of the best sounding venues in london
J. C. (. b. h.
nice club. enjoy the space. spooky vibes. bookings are decent as is the sound system. sometimes closes a little early
C. B.

Amazing artists, crowd and ambience.
Will definitely be coming again for a party, cheers.
U. K.
Lovely venue! Acoustics are actually quite good as well

Very nice venu and quite upmarket considering the area and the venue ethos. Good bands often frequent this place
S. R.
Nice intimate venue, good acoustics and reasonable drink prices (for where it is at least!)

R. J.
Love this venue quite spacious can get rammed reasonably priced drinks
F. L.
Amazing venue! very hot on Summer, but that's only next year...
L. B.
Great venue! Good for seeing bands play, as you are close to the stage
B. N.
Awesome venue, but 5.50 for a 330ml can of beer is a bit cheeky
M. B.
Brilliant venue, light and airy, comfortable accommodated our group, staff were all very friendly.
I. A.
Great space, venue was live, drinks were a good price
K. L.
Cute little venue, no sitting unfortunately but not a problem
Drinks are reasonably priced, the ear plugs are free if you ask which is a blessing
D. R.
Great venue but sound system could maybe be a bit louder . Acoustics sound a little boomy due to such high ceilings in the venue.
d. V. z.
I have been to this place twice now, both for techno nights. The room itself has great potential as it has atmosphere - high ceiling and a dark cavernous appearance. The sound system could be better - uneven, with high freq. being muffled …
M. W.
Excellent no thrills club. It's all about the music and the great crowd
B. H.
Brilliant gig venue. Beers are expensive (£4 for a 330ml can) but are of a good quality. Atmosphere is great however there should really be a curtain between the bar and the concert hall as the chatter and general bar sounds during a concert can be very distracting.
M. P.
A small intimate performance venue, reasonable range of drinks with fairly reasonable prices (£11 for spirit, mixer and a can of craft beer). Has the shoreditch no frills vibe, which adds to the atmosphere.
C. L.
One of favourite spots for live gigs. Went to a livin proof night that was utterly good fun!
n. p.
a really nice place to listen a various type of music from techno to electro music
m. h.
Good venue, sound system is decent, with friendly cloakroom staff, but poor ventilation could be improved.

N. W.
Definitely in my top 5 best music venues in London, probably in my top 5 best venues in the world.

R. G.
It was my first time here and the vibe was something that I don´t really know how to explain, you have to try out for yourself.
I will be returning soon!
G.
