Went to see Al Murray at the playhouse. Venue is excellent. Very clean, comfortable seats, good views of the stage. Bar staff and ushers were all very friendly and helpful. Would be happy to return again.
S. M.
Lovely venue, had a real close feel about it. The play we watched was excellent, our view of the stage from the circle (upper tier) and audibility were excellent. Thoroughly enjoyable!
A. S.
First visit to the theatre and found it to be a very enjoyable one.
Our tickets were for the upstairs seating and it was a great view. The sound was excellent, the lighting was excellent and the play was excellent.
Looking forward to booking another visit as soon as there is something of interest.
J. H.
Keeping the cast cool with some delicious luxury ice cream 🍦
The staff were lovely and the playhouse is clean and tidy.
Can't wait to see another show
S. M.
We have just been to the Playhouse and have seen a brilliant play called First Touch, great cast and excellently written by Nathaniel Price. This is the must see play of the year

My first ever pantomime...and I throughly enjoyed it ..it was fun and colourfuland the audience were eagerly joining in ..which added to the fun ...excellent performance from all the cast and the staff working in the rest of the areas were friendly and helpful ...I don't this won't be my last panto ...😆
P. I.
When to see an improvised comedy show, was quite good. Not been for a while to the Playhouse, they now have a big area to get a drink and a bite to eat - they do let you take a drink into the Theatre as long as it's in a plastic glass they give you with every drink. They have now got seating and tables outside the entrance. Was a tad warm in the theatre itself, but not too bad.
R. B.
Always love going here, been going for over 30 years. Literally the best managed theatre I have been in. Sets are always fantastic. Shame about the £9.00 glass of wine though and the fact that they've stopped doing food.
M. H.
Brilliant night out. The clothes they stood up in is a funny well presented show. As a wheelchair user it was brilliant to see somewhere that values your needs and make allowances for you.
d. b.
Small theatre annex. Holds about 30 adults + children. 2 player acts. Very professional. Friendly and charming. Highly recommended. Good prices
S. H.
Great evening's entertainment.
Restaurant has gone leaving a slightly sterile but functional area downstairs for drinks. Easy to park and staff lovely.
T. B.
Came here for the first time since covid19, a very organised bar adjacent to the venue is a must visit pre performance, there is outside seating as well, but on the day we visited it was wet and cold so we opted for the inside seating.
Saw "DAVID O'DOHERTY" he's soo very funny singing 🎶 and talking a load of s#*t which left us with aching faces.
The seats were reasonably comfortable in the auditorium, could do with cup/glass holders though.
S.
We had a fantastic night. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Wheelchair friendly so my partner could get in and out comfortably. We'll done.
s. O.
We go to the panto at Christmas every year amazing productions every time, its so good im about to sign up to be a member aswell as its just great value for money especially if you go to the theater often.
L. G.
Loved the Panto this year everyone was so good, my only criticism is that too much content was put into it and there was no time for the usual encore, we sang then things were moved on, the same at the end, too busy and due to that moved too quick.
M. W.
I live near enough to have walked past this place on my way to town plenty of times, and though the mirrored structure out front had caught my eye, never even realised what it was called.
Then I googled where I was going to be seeing David O'Doherty last Friday, and the penny dropped.
Was a great show, helpful staff, and the ability to preorder interval drinks was very useful.
Will be happy to visit again.
H. M.
Visited the playhouse on a Wednesday evening to see Austentatious (vaguely Austen themed improv). We parked at Mount St with the NCP app to get £6.95 event parking - it's only a short walk away from the venue. Staff were friendly and helpful on entry to the theatre and at the bars. Drink and snack ranges were pretty limited but there is enough if you want something. Seats were great - there was one house price so it paid to get in early from the mailing list (second row but same price as at the back).
L. S.
It's always a delight to visit the playhouse! Beautiful theatre, no bad seats, great views of the stage, always clean and well kept with polite staff.
V.
The panto was fantastic!! Great set, costumes and one liners. Bar and entrance staff lovely, a great night!
N. D.
Went to the Panto - oh yes we did!
Be aware of the parking zones. Walk 100 yards and it is less than half the price of right outside.
R. M.
A great venue, always has interesting performances. Great location for us being City centre based.
G. T.
Beauty and the Beast was an excellent pantomime (oh no it wasn't! oh yes it was!).
Went today (17/09/22) to see The Clothes We Stand Up In with Sophie Thompson and Adrian Scarborough. It was a thought provoking, rather risque comedy that had the most poignant message. Well worth seeing. Well written and very well acted. The other three actors, who took multiple parts made for an excellent trip to the theatre.
I. “. W.
I been in Playhouse few times, at the summer theatre, and inside. It is great place .
It can be cold at smaller rooms , so better wrapped up in cosy outfits.
Supporting Artists is very important after 2years of lockdown and such a uncertain time.
G. G.
A fabulous venue. The pantomime had and amazing set with incredible costumes. I'd highly recommend a visit
L. C. R.
Saw my first ballet here. Loved it. Such a beautiful theatre full of history
A. S.
Lovely venue. Friendly and helpful staff. Great view from circle seats.
P. S.
Nottingham Playhouse is a theatre in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England. It was first established as a repertory theatre in 1948 when it operated from a former cinema in Goldsmith Street. Recommend a visit. Especially with children.
J. R.
Saw Christmas Carol and it was fantastic. The theatre itself was well managed, easy to enter safely and interact with staff, especially during covid restrictions. Go back to the theatre and enjoy yourselves, you know you have missed it.
S. G.
Loved watching Goldilocks. Perfect for children 3-8 years. Very interactive.
A. F.
Took my partner to see Count Arthur Strong here and it's a great venue.
We had circle seats but a clear view of the stage . The theatre bars were busy but we got served without too long a wait and you can take drinks into the auditorium which is a plus. Only 1 negative which was you needed cash for ice cream at the interval unless you queued at the bar again.
S.
Wasn't open to go inside but there's the popular sky mirror at the front of the building. This is also nearby to the cathedral - so great spot if you are rush.
A. S.
Lovely theatre with friendly helpful staff. The show was very good (Identical) but I felt that at 2 hours 50 minutes it was a bit too long, especially as it is suitable for children aged 9+
D. M.
Taking part in Participation event with theatre choir. Very impressed by range of activities available to members of the wider community and the performances given. Good work!
M.
Amazing play with breathtaking scenery and so well organised.
Just such a shame when people take children who aren't able to appreciate the experience (fidgeting and talking throughout) as its not only distracting but frustrating when you work hard to afford such pleasures
P. M.
A great venue. Very large, comfortable seats with good views of the stage. It is fairly large but feels intimate. We saw the opening show of Johnny Ball and found it a really good experience thanks to the venue.
P. W.
Brillant show, helpful staff. Only downside is very expensive car parking rates
M. S.
Just went for the first time. Great venue for smaller scale plays / gigs etc. But the bar was understaffed and took forever. Lots of people couldn't get drinks before the show and in the break. Disappointing of the venue..
R. E.
I have been to productions at the Playhouse for about 50 years and only one I didn't enjoy in all that time. The best major theatre in Nottingham by a country mile.
N. S.
Saw Enemy of the People here. Excellent play and superb cast. The seating is good, quite comfortable. Toilets very clean. The adjoining bar and restaurant serve food and drink at reasonable prices. Great outdoor seating. Sky mirror sculpture and water feature really make the outside area interesting and visually stunning to look at.
S. R.
Friendly staff and comfortable seats. Have many excellent plays and shows on.
S. S.
Fabulous … great theatre lovely staff … performance of Sinatra .. RAW this evening was SPLENDID .. great night money well spent
M. T.
We all went for the pantomime and as usual it was a very good performance. There are no tv personalities or the like, just the stars who appear annually supported by local performers. Some of the jokes are specific to the locality and raise plenty of laughs. If you're looking for singing, dancing, colourful costumes and a participative show the the panto here is for you. Give it a whirl!
M. S.
Lovely place in beautiful surroundings. Playful sculpture mirror outside too. Bar and restaurant good prices and selection.
a. j. l.
Had a fantastic time at beauty and the beast. My 4 year old loved it too. Very good staff, clean and tidy
J. L.
Great show as always worth every penny
M. S.
"The King of Reggae" The Bob Marley Story - A brilliant live and imperfect performance, making it so real and the most amazing narration through live music. A story about the most amazing man and his quest for justice, equality, love and peace! I loved it!
G. G.
Fantastic really looked after by staff and had a great comedy show with Chris Ramsey
H. H.
We went to see a comedian and the venue is beautiful, the staff are amazing and I would visit again.
The toilets were slightly iffy, the seating is quite tight and the bar queues were awful. However, there is a bit of work going off so it is understandable.
D. H.
Welcoming and friendly staff, nice seating, and good drink and food. Good time, looking forward to returning
F. G.
Friendly staff in the theatre, the tickets were very reasonable, and the play was great.
J. I.
What a fab smaller venue, great location too
Love the seat details...
P.
Alright prices nice staff fun night out for young and old
D. G.
Gorgeous theatre. Fantastic production. Scenery, costumes, performances (and lovely staff) all stunning. Well worth a visit.
R. P.
It is a nice place, seats are a little uncomfortable though and being 6ft2 I felt I was blocking the view for others, no one complained so is must not have been a problem.
S. E.
Good show but inadequately staffed bars. Long queues. No food available. And all closed after curtain down
S. W.
A brilliant production of an adaptation by Mark Gatiss of A Christmas Carol at Nottingham Playhouse. Superb set and lighting, fantastic acting from all concerned. I understand it's now transferring to London. If possible, go and see it; you will not be disappointed.
Another visit to the very well organised Playhouse, this time to listen to Lucy Worsley talk about her new biography of Agatha Christie. A very enjoyable evening.
D. C.
Best panto in the country. We come up from London for it every year.
T. T.
Very nice. As impressive as his other works - the bean in Chicago & outside the Monte Carlo Casino.
G. G.
The baby and toddler disco was amazing! Will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next one. My little one really enjoyed himself. The staff were amazing! Thanks guys and girls for a great time! 🎶😁💃🏼
T. R.
Our first visit to Nottingham Playhouse to see Paul Merton and chums. Loved the theatre and it's seating layout. We sat about half way back in the stalls and had an excellent view. I'd definitely go to a show there again
P. J.
Brilliant little theatre which puts on some great productions. Great location.
M.
Always a fabulous night here. Great venue. Staff always helpful. They even managed to resell a spare ticket for me. Clean and comfortable but could use another set of toilets. Wish It had a dedicated car park though, that would make things a little easier, especially if you were seeing a daytime performance. Expensive car parks nearby though.
S. R.
Panto this year, Beauty and The Beast was great fun for all the family. Good mixture of traditional fairy tale with modern twist. Music was excellent.
Although there are concessions, it is well outside the affordability of many families, which is a shame because all children should have the opportunity to go to a Panto every now and then. Would be great if the sponsors could help with this.
Already booked next year's Aladdin!
J. C.
Amazing decorations and light show.
M. W.
An amazing theatre, very spacious and in close proximity to Nottingham's restaurants.
T. C.
Lovely theatre. Not really a bad seat in the house.
J. L.
Fantastic to see the people behind The Colour of Love and hear some lived experiences from the audience
T. J.
Clean, spacious & not busy. The play, The First Touch, dealt with a current & very difficult subject, the abuse of young footballers by their coaches.
The performances from all the cast were good, with the young man playing Courtney being particularly engaging.
J. P.
South Pacific opening night, BRILLIANT.
A must see. Loved every minute.
J. C.
Lovely theatre, great production and fabulous staff.
M. B.
The performance was amazing funny and sad.but the night ended with the very sad news of the death of one of the cast that night. May she R.I.P.
f. w.
The Clothes They Stood Up In is marvellous. Funny and uplifting, it's a great night out.
L. K.
Wonderful venue. Love the atmosphere and the diversity 💜
K. S.
First time seeing a production of Skellig. Absolutely fantastic and such an engaged audience. It was heart-warming to see the story acted out on stage with such emotion and enthralling both young and old alike as we watched eagerly.
So proud to be able to see such highly skilled and entertaining theatre on my door step. Another Playhouse success!
S. “. P.
I enjoyed being here and giving a talk at an event. I wouldn't say it's the most stylish and up to date, but there's history here, and a great warmth.
C. L.
Absolutely amazing went to see identical all I can say is FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS recomend for all age groups thanks for a great night out
P. B.
Nice venue, very comfortable seats.
C. M.
Friendly, helpful staff. Nice theatre and good productions.
M.
Great facilities and setting and the performance space and seating are top notch; I'm dropping the fifth star because we found the bar to be a little on the pricey side. that's certainly not unique to this venue but I only give 5 stars if I find nothing to complain about 😜
L. P. E.
Lots of beautiful plays. A place full of culture where to cultivate yourself with fun.
A. B.
Thank you to all the staff.l fell around the corner taking the skin off my knees and breaking my 👍 thumb. The manager cleaned my knees and gave me a ice pack 🤩🤩fifomy thumb
s. t.
As with almost theatres you are cramped into the seats with a reasonable amount of leg room.
Sit anywhere beyond the front row
you’ll get a great view.
Staff lovely and friendly and the bar is not overly expensive.
M. W.
Amazing pantomime , really funny and more up to date than previous years which made a refreshing change , but still with the traditional capers! The staff were so kind and helpful , if you can go and support the playhouse , get tickets to the pantomime , it makes a really great entertaining afternoon ! :)
J. W.
Went to see an amazing Mark Gatiss production of A Christmas Carol. Theatre was amazing and staff ware diligent. However, the experience wasn’t perfect due to the 100+ school children that happened to be attending the same 7:30 PM show as us. Wish Playhouse had announced beforehand for them all to shut up because they talked throughout the entire production.
Would visit again, but perhaps an evening for exclusively adults would be a good idea.
H.
Unfortunately, nobody on the door to help with directions no sanitizer, swarming with children presumably because it was a matinee badly organized they could do with taking a leaf out of the pomegranate. Performance was excellent but unfortunately interrupted by a medical emergency, for which we were very sorry for the person concerned and the cast. Have booked for more shows so hope it is a better experience!!!!
R. W.
Been here 4 or 5 times over recent years. It really is superb - staff friendly, seats comfortable, but best of all, some great productions...not least Mark Gatiss's A Christmas Carol this past week.
C. I.
Visit here regularly. There are great views from all seats. Front of house exemplary, plenty of room to sit, stand and natter at the interval. Their productions are innovative and thought provoking. Proper traditional playhouse fare. Highly recommend.
D. E.
Best theatre in nottingham by far have enjoyed every min watching and performing on the stages <3
d. b.
Great play, excellent staff and good bar. A credit to Nottingham.
D. p.
The clothes they stood up in. What a lovely play in a lovely theatre
J. H.
Very friendly and really helpful staff. Easy access for disabled, with a lift to all floors. My daughter became poorly during a performance and the staff couldn't do enough for her
D. W.
Watched Identical, show was really good, definitely recommend seeing!
K. O.
It's a great place. We love it as a family.
K. R.
Excellent performance on Saturday of Skellig, but then I am always impressed by the quality and uniqueness of the works performed here. A great venue
M.
Staff lovely and so helpful.
Confectionery expensive!
M. B.
This is a lovely sized theatre, situated just out of the centre of Nottingham. It attracts big names, new and old productions and is well worth a visit. Plenty of on street parking and a bar with some outside seating too now.
L. C.
Went to see Flo and Joan they were excellent live and worth going to see.I sat in the stalls occasionally I couldn't quite here all they said. The toilets are very scarce and getting a drink from either bar looked impossible lucky an Irish bar up the road quenched my thirst, worth the night out thanks Flo and Joan
d.
We love Nottingham Playhouse panto, it felt so good to be back and see our favourite Dame on stage congratulations to the entire cast and all the staff for putting on such a wonderful show x
H. O.
Brilliant night! Staff were incredibly helpful, pleasant and polite. First time back at the theatre and we can't wait to go again! Well done to all at the Playhouse 😁
T. J.
Lovely atmosphere for a concert. Ok the seats are a tad narrow for someone of my girth but nice leg room and great acoustics 😁. Friendly and helpful staff as well.... 👍
L. F.
Very socially distanced so felt very safe inside. Interval drinks ordered & delivered to our seats (but tricky keeping mask on too!)
Helpful staff, so good to be back at the theatre again. We'll done Nottingham Playhouse
M. M.
Smaller than you'd expect but perfectly proportioned! We saw Sting's The Last Ship there and we're overwhelmed, so close to the actors. Recommended!
E. H.
Great theatre, lovely atmosphere
B. H.
Absolutely amazing performance, as always. Lovely atmosphere, informative staff. Can't wait to see the Panto in winter!
D. G.
Nice theatre. Been many times
G. D.
Was truly awesome. Babes in the wood Xmas panto. They always look after us as we're a special school but I really got into it.....Oh no you didn't.. oh yes I did.
A. F.
Great play, lovely venue.
M. H.
Lovely venue, super clean and tidy, with helpful staff. The theatre is gorgeous and the staff even allowed us to move to better seats on this particular night that didn't have that many attending the show. We were very, very appreciative as we came from Dublin to see the show!
D. M.
Playhouse is a great venue, the standup comedy was a bit disappointing so had a good snooze which ultimately was a better experience than those who came with me....
T. H.
Staff really helpful, pleasant and friendly. Venue feels more intimate and really comfortable. Play (A Christmas Carol) was magnificent with the effects truly amazing.
E. P.
Really great theatre. Although stay away from the circle seats if you don't like heights
C. W.
I love the theatre, and try to go often, to support the arts, but to watch something live, there is nothing quite like it. This week I want to give kudos to the Nottingham Playhouse which I have loved attending.
I have seen musicals there that have been better than the Theatre Royal, laughed along at shows, and also, rather strangely watched a shot by shot remake of the film Dawn of the Dead with real actors as the film played... amazing!
This relatively small theatre does things well, it has struggled through covid like the rest of us, but come out on top returning to relative normality recently. Do yourself a favour, and book a show now.
Excuse the rubbish photo, was take ahead of the No Such Thing As A Fish podcast, last week!
B. W.
During an interval, both bars were severely over-run. Would recommend getting more bar staff.
Seats comfortable.
Ticket collection easy.
S. P.
Bit soul-less but nice staff and an enjoyable evening listening to Henry Blofeld.
T. M.
Went to see sleeping beauty pantomime. Every bit as fantastic as I'd hoped. Our party of seven people aged from 3 to 72 were all laughing throughout. Such a great family occasion. Well done to all staff and the amazing cast
L. D.
Lovely playhouse, well designed. Bar is small and can take a long time to get served but staff are efficient
V. H.
Amazing performances, great staff, clear views from seats
K. B.
Pantomime was a brilliant family night out after waiting so long the cast was so grateful for an audience . Enjoyed by everyone in our group of 10
m. p.
Good play. Nice venue
A. H.
We saw A Christmas Carol which was spectacular.
The bar was busy but well organised.
A great place to go a watch live theatre.
C. C.
Absolutely love this theatre. A great location . Plenty of parking and a bistro (BROWNS) TWO MINS WALK AWAY.
H. S.
Went to see the Mark Gatiss adaptation of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. An excellent evening. A full theatre and an appreciative audience - most of whom wore masks.
A. B.
Lovely place to watch a show or grab a coffee and a nice cake.
A. O.
Fantastic staff, hubby is disabled and the greeting staff checking tickets was extremely welcoming and helpful. Will definitely be visiting again.
S. S.
Excellent. Went to see Cinderella panto, music, stage style and performance all top notch. My 9 year old son loved it.
Only concern it started at 7.30am, and if you have to travel a bit it makes it late getting back.
S. h.
Very good went to see she wolves and they where very good. Had a young girl group on before them who wrote there own work
A. A.
Great night at the panto. Fantastic actors, atmosphere and excellent COVID measures in place. Friendly staff. Looking forward to next visit.
S. M.
I pop in here every now and then and I've never been disappointed. Everyone gets a great view and with good entertainment makes a good night out
I. J.
Nottingham Playhouse is a Wonderful theatre building and environment
A. K.
A very creative theatre. The quality of the production, the actors and the stage were excellent. The venue has all the facilities anyone would need. There are nearby car parks, it is wheelchair accessible and friendly for people with disabilities. Just check the play is suitable for your age.
A. P.
The play was excellent but for a modern Theatre to have restricted views is poor. The seats are uncomfortable and spoils your enjoyment
G. G.
A fantastic and intimate venue. Staff very helpful, friendly and disability aware, very helpful for myself and my wife with our Guide Dogs. A superb acoustic experience. Can’t wait to go again. Plenty of outdoor seating for good weather. Bar and restaurant. Highly recommended place to visit and see artists plays and comedy.
H. E. H.
Brilliant as usual. We come every Christmas but this year I took my mum along! We had a great time laughing away. Such a lot of hard work goes into it every year. We very much appreciate it. Such talented people. Keep up the good work!
L. C.
Great little theatre, though really uncomfortably warm in the stalls on the night we visited.
J. T.
The playhouse is a fabulous place.
They sell dreams there.
Force you to temporarily suspend your disbelief.
And let the stories take you to distant places.
R. P.
Nice place to go if you want to watch a play
A. S.
Went here to watch an improv comedy event. Not too large a venue so suited comedy well. Not much room between the seats, so lots of getting up to let people past, though the seats were relatively comfortable.
Toilets really were awful. The gents (sorry can't comment on the ladies) were really cramped.
Getting as drink in the interval was fine. Not a large queue as expected. And was quick to leave at the end of the evening. In summary, venue just seems a little dated.
J. B.
Theatre has plenty of space and feel very friendly. Had such a good experience at the bar, shout-out to the amazing bar man who made one of the most amazing cocktails we've ever tasted off the top of his head!!!!!
L. J.
Took our Grandson to the Panto. excellent show and very well managed under the present circumstances. Very well done.
K. B.
Always clean and well looked after. Good sound, lights and stage. Polite and helpful staff.
S. L.
Saw the panto here, lovely theater has what it needs a stage toilets a bar and staff were super friendly too great night , thank you
D. S.
Stunning performance at a delightfully intimate theatre
S. H.
Saw 'First Touch'. Excellent. Great theatre and all very well done.
D. G.
My first visit to the playhouse was a great. The bar was very busy and the staff were amazing at dealing with the intermission rush. The only thing that let the venue down was the toilets, tiny facilities that were massively over subscribed.
Would happily revisit.
E. M.
Love the pantomime. I have gone every year ever since I was a child. It is truly fun for all the family!
T. M.
Really smart theatre, nice bar good choice for the type of venue. Not too expensive and a lot of room. Parking was good near by. Excellent spread of comedy acts on better than nearly anywhere in the country. Definitley worth a visit.
N. B.
Air con was not amazing, bar queue was far too big
M. A.
Great theatre. Panto 2021 was fab!
J. T.
Went to see Energy of the People with Alex Kingston and Malcolm Sinclair it was really good they put on some very good entertainment
P. W.
Massive, awesome and the play i watched was also lovely. The snack were alright but the setting is defo worth it!
D. E.
What a lovely theatre. Always a well curated choice of entertainment to view here. The staff are lovely, the theatre is comfotable (not much leg room on the front row of the circle, mind) and the bar is a really nice atmosphere too.
M. D.
The Playhouse is a wonderful theatre, one of the best in the UK. Their traditional pantomime is always a real family treat.
Good facilities and lovely public spaces make a visit very enjoyable. The auditorium is small and cosy so you always get a good view, no matter where you sit. I am very tall but there seems to be enough leg room.
J. P.
The ventilation system uses external air which made me more confident that the Covid-19 risk was lower and so able to relax and enjoy the show.
A. R.
An amazing cultural resource that we should cherish. The range of performance is amazing - from comedy and panto to experimental and debut drama. Every one is at a phenomenal standard and I feel so lucky to be able to come here often. On the downside, the restaurant service and food is patchy, but that would never stop me from going (and it shouldn't stop you either). Each year's programme is so varied, there will be something for everyone. Oh yes there will!
P. T.
I love this venue. I don't know why. It has formed a special place in my heart, probably because I started my career here. They try very hard and do some great work. I find it such a shame it is so white and middle class though. Especially in a city like Nottingham. Try harder please Playhouse. We love you and want you to love us! Can you not find ANY people of colour front of house or backstage or in your offices????? Seems unlikely...
D. Y.
Josie long did just what she said she would: not be a smart arse being mean to people. Several male comedians come to mind
She was a delight. Made me smile for 2 hours straight, punctuated with some snorty laughing.
I like the playhouse too. Great sized venue and a vital organ of Nottingham cultural
A great night out for me and my son
N. D.
Went to watch a show, was really hot and stuffy needs better air conditioning
J. F.
Brilliant, lovely atmosphere and so easy to park and walk to. Looking foreward to our next visit.
R. H.
Fantastic venue fantastic show a Christmas carol
C. D. (.
Fantastic annual pantomime. My family and I travel all the way from Sleaford to see it as it's become tradition and is absolutely hilarious. Don't often visit at other times of the year but they always have an excellent range of productions on. Bar is reasonable for a theatre too.
A. S.
Had a wonderful time at the playhouse to watch Holes. Went Inna Saturday afternoon and wasn't too busy. Drinks available at a bar and snacks too. We had front row seats which were great! Am already looking to see when we can go again!!!
A. M.
I went to see a panto it's was very nice, the audio wasn't too loud or quite and my little brother enjoyed it however the seats aren't the comfiest tho and the selection of snacks and drinks werent the best so I recommend brining your own to eat if you want especially a drink.
S. S.
Excellent alternative to the larger Nottingham Royal Concert Hall. Great venue and usually excellent value for money. Take the opportunity of registering your name and email, as you usually receive some very good offers. We always enjoy our visits here.
R. L.
This is a great venue ideal for small scale concerts much more intimate that the concert hall you feel really connected with the performer's. Pleasent courteous staff. However avoid row D hardly any leg room! and I'm only average height. Rows immediately behind had much more room.
C. B.
Really good night. The pantomime was very funny. Jokes for the kids and the adults. Always a good show. The cast were great. Highly recommended venue.
A.
Watched babes robin hood and thoroughly enjoyed. Been a while since I have been and went for the youngster but probably laughed more than he did. Best parts were the interaction with the audience, the unscripted elements, dropping the sword etc. Great stuff.
G. J.
Not been for a while. Took a friend r the first time, who was blown away by the place. I'd forgotten whatcha gem of a theatre this is, or just took it for granted. Saw 'one night in Miami' which is a stunning play. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
D. B.
Nice venue. Very long wait at the bar before the show though! That's to be expected of course but what was frustrating is I couldn't see what they had in the fridges beforehand so despite waiting had to make a snap decision!
J. C.
Love this place and the fact they are very inclusive with special needs.
Enjoyed the panto just gone.
And my son loves the workshops they put on at half term for special needs, made new friends who like him often feel excluded from events, that one day each half term means such a lot to us both. Thank you

Lovely little theatre with alot to offer; however it would be lovely to gain backstage experience for those aged 20 - 50. Late career change advice into the creative industry for those with or without experience would gain the extra star.
J. B.
Fantastic show - Piaf. Would highly recommend. The FOH and Bar staff were excellent and so friendly and helpful. Just great being back 😊
N. C. (.
visited today to watch the panto with my daughter in law and two grandchildren.
staff were really helpful and the cast of the panto were absolutely brilliant also the musicians . Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend.
L. B.
Lovely building and the tiered seating means everyone can see everything.
M. M.
A great place for new ideas and productions, the site is awash with talent and great shows and a great place to have a quick bite to eat
C. O.
Great regional theatre producing top class shows. Good bar serving food. On street parking. Friendly helpful staff. Good visibility of stage from all areas.
K. F.
Nice venue to see a show - I have been to several performances but find the productions to be somewhat hit and miss. However the theater itself is great and a nice compliment to the Nottingham live performance community.
G. B.
Great place, shame the auditorium couldn't have been cleaned before our show, floor underfoot covered in nut shells & sweet wrappers.
T. S.
Staff were all lovely and helpful, polite and friendly, everywhere was clean and hygienic. The show was really great like nothing I had seen before. All round great experience.
J. C.
Fun venue with great bar and restaurant. Stopped in for a quiet afternoon drink with friends. Friendly staff and dramatic surroundings really made the place. The Anish sculpture kept the kids entertained.
Just far enough off the beaten path to not be crowded in the summer. Decent menu as well. Perfect for pre show drinks or post performance dinner.
S. H.
Saw Barry Humphries. Excellent show given he is 88 yrs old. 2hrs of entertainment.
J. P.
We have been going to the panto here every year since I can't remember when. This year our party's ages were 8, 12, 19, 39, 40, 43, 71 & 74, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, even though most of us are now able to shout out the punchlines to the jokes along with the performers. As mentioned above this isn't your "former Eastenders actor as dame & somebody off Love Island as principal boy" type of panto, many of the actors return year after year and as a result it really feels like a family affair. Stupid jokes, great song and dance numbers and much mockery of both Beeston and Mansfield, what more could you want?
C. S.
Watched ‘Coram Boy’ today, 5* community production. Singing, costumes, acting all excellent - loved every minute. Some raw talent in a very diverse cast watch out you professionals!
S. T.
Go to the panto here every year and it never fails to deliver. Fantastic venue that always puts on a well organised event and amazing cast that gets better by the year, finding the perfect balance of pop culture and old school music hall.
F. W.
An absolutely AMAZING production, of One night in Miami. Great acting. Fabulous singing. A real education. The Playhouse production have been real quality recently. The madness of King George, Skelleg, etc
J. S.
Loved seeing "The Elves and the shoemaker" here with my young family. And I really enjoyed "Town Mouse, Country Mouse" here too last year. These productions are all created in house and they are superb. Highly recommend
G. J.
Great theatre with easy access, good signage and helpful front of house staff. Excellent cafe with humungous delicious to die for flapjacks! Programme of events looks exciting too. Will be back...
D. Q.
Panto was a great night out.
Fun fun fun for all the family
Actors were great and they can seriously sing.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Back again?
Probably!
M. W.
Excellent venue, very posh and looks newly built. We went to see Tim Vine, the show was excellent, the seating comfortable and the acoustics very good. No hesitation about visiting again.
J. S.
A tremendous and established local theatre, with an excellent choir! Coral Boy was my favourite play.
I. P.
Always an enjoyable experience seats are good and sight lines fine. Staff friendly and helpful, offers value for money. Street Parking (meters) outside and multi story close.
A. U.
It has a shiny mirror, always a good sign
r. g.
Nottingham Playhouse presents challenging works which will not satisfy everyone. However, if you do your research before buying your ticket, you should find the experience rewarding. Excellent acting, imaginative sets and helpful staff make the Playhouse an excellent venue.
C. B.
Saved very hard to afford the 5 seat price tag. Only 13 people upstairs! Surely if the prices were lower you would get more customers. Great Show spoilt only by the lack of atmosphere . cheaper seats Please.
D. C.
Neville Studio small and perfect for children interacting with the performers. We watched Pinocchio, my two grandchildren absolutely loved it, so did I, well done another great show.
M. B.
Wonderful to be back at the Playhouse last night. Audience experience was very well managed by the staff and felt safe. Great atmospheric performances by Mark Gatiss and Adrian Scarborough of ghostly stories. We'll be back, we hope so much.
S. S.
My little granddaughter and I came to see Cinderella today and although she only managed until the interval (she is autistic and struggled with the cheering etc) but what she saw she lived the special effects were amazing the singing and dancing fantastic. Who needs celebrities when you get a show like this highly recommend you visit.
Y. H.
had a brilliant night out at the playhouse looking forward to going back soon
D. J.
Beautiful building and an excellent show. The Last Ship was tremendous!
S. A.
Very enjoyable evening. Helpful staff
j. g.
Brilliant place to watch a play or have dinner or drinks. Relaxed, chic and fun place to hang out. Comfortable seating in the actual theatre and really great selection of shows on offer.
p. t.
Modern theatre, good seats, parking a short walk a way but expensive.A good range of plays on offer.
P. d. W.
It's a theatre, so does theatrey things. Not operations, more looking at performers on stage delivering lines. Serves ice-cream, wines and beers, has intermissions. You should go.
M. M.
This brilliant venue constantly enriches with amazing, thought provoking and wonderful , diverse productions. A great facility filled with art and talent contributing strongly to Nottingham's appeal.
s. k.
Very smart, clean and staffed by friendly and helpful people. My only real gripe is the seats. They are not wide enough. I'm not one of these people who spill over the sides of chairs and seats however these hurt my hip bones. Something I can't recall ever experiencing before. Thankfully the act (Richard Herring) took my mind from the discomfort very quickly.
M. J.
This is a strange review, but posted in the hope others will take care when making bookings. Why only four stars? Let me explain.
As a frequent Playhouse visitor (3-4 time a yer is frequent in my mind, but I'm sure there are more regular visitors!) I have a 10 step routine when visiting the Playhouse. This wasn't intentionally a ten step routine until I started listing it, so have added this additional line.
1- check tickets before I leave the house. Correct date and time. Check. 2 - Park in town. 3 - check I still have the tickets. I know I do, but I check again. 4 - walk to the Playhouse. 5 - check I still have the tickets. 6 go the firt floor and use the gents that no one seems to know but before a performance (during the break they will get busy. 6 - check the tickets. 7 - go to the bar and order a Guinness. 8 - go to where I think I should be to go to my seat via the ushers. 9 - ushers check the tickets and point out which direction to go. 10 - find seat, sit down and wit for the show to start.
I saw Stewart Lee a week last Friday (only typing this now as Google seems to think I need to review the Playhouse and I give in easy to an email asking for information).
Unusually for me, I'd booked early and had a seat in the stalls and not the circle. I still went to the circle entrance though, offered my ticket to the usher and was pointed which direction to go......it wasnt until I was in the circle I realised I'd been told incorrectly and went back outside to the usher who then pointed me to the correct entrance. So I'd checked the tickets myself, the usher had, and I had still been in the wrong place. All sorted though. Shaking my head at my error, whilst smiling, as I should have known where to sit.
But......it wasnt until just before the show started and the after the show had commenced I thought about the usher. Why? Because two other couple sat nearby (one on row B and one on row A) were so keen to see Stewart Lee that they were 24 hours early and were sat in someone else's seat. Stewart Lee made the second error part of the act but how did two couples manage to get past the ushers, showing their tickets, and the ushers not spotting the sate was incorrect. Alongside my minor embarrassment in comparison, (at least I was there on the correct night!) what do the ushers check?
Ushers aside, it was nice to sit in the stalls which seem to have more legroom than the circle. The toilets at the Playhouse are an issue though. Clean they may be, but there will always be a longer queue at the Playhouse the at the Concert Hall or Ice Stadium.
Shorter review......cosy, atmospheric, ushers with a sense of humour, good choice of ales at the bar (with interval ordering), great sound, but be prepared for a queue for the toilets.
If anyone reading this gets this far that five minutes of your life you won't get back!
p. l.
Love the pantomimes but sadly price for disability child no longer have concessions
C. B.
Went to see my granddaughter dancing on stage. Second time at this venue. There's plenty of car parking at the multi-storie close to the theatre. Nice medium sized theatre with a large variety of shows.
M. G.
This is a fab venue offering interesting productions. Great access and facilities. Nice bar to sit and eat/drink, even if you're not seeing something in the theatre.
C. C.
This charity run, council supported theatre is brilliant. We have been to several comedy events from well known comedians here, as well as the annual pantomime which is the best in the city.
M. P.
Lovely place, a little difficult to find. The theatre is clean airy and with great acoustics.
E. S.
This is a great theatre showing interesting often thought provoking productions. I just wish they could get their hearing links to work and have captioned performances other than on a Saturday matinée.
An update. Hooray I had a working hearing link on my last visit on Saturday evening. Also I've worked out knack of getting the sound to my aids. Loop the loop over your ears. Looks mad, but it works for those with severe loss.
B. A.
Good venue with attentive staff

Excellent venue for pantomime
M. A.
The venue is perfect for a nice evening out. It is in a great part of town and you can buy food and drink from the bar/restaurant next door. There is also plenty of on-street parking.
M. N.
Great place for comedy, plays, and music
M. R.
Saw 'Madness of George 3rd' and was very impressed with the quality of show and theatre. My only complaint would be the wait to be allowed into the waiting areas where seating was available, before the performance.
S. N.
It was fully booked when we want John Suttleworth. Brilliant. But no social distencing at all. And didn't feel safe..
M. B.
Used to come here as a kid for the panto so nice to return with my own. Panto wasnt that good but the Dame did really well. Good facilities although stupid people get in the way standing in the middle of circulation routes.
M. G. B.
An absolutely wonderful night, 'Holes' was showing, staring Kacey Ainsworth, she was hilarious! Very helpful staff, good seating plan, very comfortable, a special shout out the the very hard working bar staff, brilliant
H. L.
Christmas panto always hits the spot!
K. k.
It's just a perfect little theatre with the biggest of shows. From great plays to musicals. You know your going to have a great night out. Love it
B. E.
Very nice theater, not too big, for me the right size to be "involved" in the play (the actors are not too far away). Acustic could be better but still ok. Nice bar and facilities.
J. O.
Great Pantomime saw beauty and the beast with my daughter and my youngest grand daughter we all enjoyed it it was a good laugh
T. D.
Good productions, in house & visiting. Lovely auditorium. Friendly staff make you feel welcome. Always a good time at Nottingham Playhouse
M. C.
A nice venue with good transport links. Shame the lift wasn't working but organisers had been told in advance about the issue.
S. H.
Had difficulties hearing the dialogue, I am a little hard of hearing but be aware if you are a sufferer as the amplification is only light. However a lot of other people were really enjoying an excellent production.
E. D.
Good play - 'Christmas Carol - The Ghosts', very few masks in audience, and minimal spacing of family groups.
M. V.
Great local productions, as well as some touring productions. Space is fantastic and there are loads of activities throughout the week. Playhouse also do outreach activities.
A. S.
Sat in the stalls. Rather narrow between the rows of seats. Sometimes abit difficult to hear the speech. Drinkd, sweets and ice cream are expensive as always. Parking can be an issue as it's on the surrounding streets. Lovely round large mirror outside with water feature.
S. M.
We love going here. Great atmospheres great shows..
D. B.
A great tradition in theatre. Went to see Tommy without a hitch. Easy parking on the street. 6-8pm only a pound and ticket runs to 8 am next day.
D. “. A. P. H.
Went to see "Identical" yesterday, BRILLIANT!
A. C.
Love this theatre and the produtions it puts on, we have booked up for the majority of the shows this year just as in previous years. In its favour over the larger Theatre Royal is the abscence of trams running past every few minutes.
M. N. (.
Had a fantastic time at Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, very reminiscent of my childhood. Thoroughly enjoyed introducing our children to the art of pantomime. Brilliant.
T. M.
It's the playhouse , all ways have a good time , shame about the out door bar closing
N.
A wonderful night out but you need to book in advance. Very nice architecture and a fine performance
g. “. t.
Nottingham playhouse is a modem looking building with a large sky mirror just outside the main entrance, it's good to look at in all light conditions.
The veiwing area is large in an oval shape, with a balconies above. You can see the stage well from anywhere and get a great view. The stage is large enough for most plays to be performed. There is a restaurant on site although I didn't use it.
C. B.
Nice, but always a too busy and takes a very long to be served when there's a show on as the the bar area is small and becomes overwhelmed. Very interesting acts and shows though and a great experience
C. B.
Count Arthur Strong show!
What a great show, i laughed so much i hurt my side's. Glad the show was at the Nottingham Play house!
Great place for entertainment with a bar inside and out!!
J. P.
Its was absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed it so much. It's been years since going to a pantomime. And certainly we will be back for Sleeping Beauty next year.
P. B.
Really enjoyed the performance we went to see. Everything was COVID secure and well organised.
M. C.
This is an amazing venue for watching plays and concerts.
The acoustics are very good as are the facilities.
Their booking system is very good and easy to use.
B. H.
This website is designed to provide ease of use and accessibility. Up to date information and plenty of pointers to up and coming productions.
M. L.
Had a wonderful evening watching Jenny Eclair. Fantastic show and really funny a real pick me up.
M. D.
Brilliant panto xx
P. H.
Ive felt for a while, probably unfairly, that the playhouse has been stuck in a rut.
Wonderland absolutely proved me wrong. They are producing fantastic work and i am very excited for the rest of this season.
G. C.
Great tiered theatre, excellent viewing, very convivial seating arrangement. Cosy not over large. Very personal experience.
J. D.
Great, traditional pantomime
T.
An intimate playhouse which makes you feel close to the stage.
The staff were nice and willing to help with any quires.
The restraint and bar was priced reasonably.
K. ..
Went last week to see a play, nice sized venue, nice feel to it,easy to find your way round, was easy to park and the restaurant bit looked a nice place to sit out in the sun but i didn't have time to try it,only downside was the toilets upstairs, they're tiny!
E. N.
Very well organised outdoor production of The Tempest that myself, grandma and 10 year old all enjoyed.
J. D.
I went to go and see guitar hero's and it was very good. They went through all the generation's of rock songs. I would recommend this to anyone who likes rock.
N. R.
Lovely venue and modern vibrant crowd. The performances I've seen here are varied and often alternative to mainstream with a more independent atmosphere.
j. m.
I won the tickets for the pantomime
and was very surprised as it was actually really good, they can sing fantastic, stage was in all beautiful colours very attractive....... your not allowed to take photos...... and if your on the front row make sure you join in or you'll end up on stage doing it in front of everyone 🤣🤣🤣 radio gaga radio gugu..... the guy who leads the orchestra is fantastic his prescion is excellent that 4 men orchestra know how to play music .... luv the saxophone I'd recommend go and see.....xxx
L. J.

R. M. U.
Amazing venue been a few times now for work and leisure.
Little gem hidden away in Nottingham
5 stars for staff and venue
Very sensory aware and nothing seems to much
A. S.
A nice venue. We went recently having not been for ages. It's possibly unfair to say so on the back of just one visit, but it maybe just looked a little tired.
S. G.
congratulations to all staff and cast of Sleeping Beauty. Each year gets better and better. We will be booking for Beauty and the Beast asap.See you then.
D. P.
Really enjoyed the performance and it's a great venue.
M. H. E.
Very neat place. Loved the show I went to watch as well.
The toilet facilities are inadequate though. Standing in long queues to use the toilet is just awkward.
r. l.
Staff are really helpful and thoughtful, especially with disabled and elderly. Facilities are comfortable and welcoming. Situated in a lovely area of nottingham surrounded by beautiful old victorian buildings
D. M.
Brill night!!! So much good music and dancing. If you haven't seen it, please check out Rush- a joyous Jamaican journey.
M. L.
Great evening, seeing fantastic play to full house. Only slight mutter-they never have enough bar staff. Took the entire interval to get a drink.
N. W.
Good medium sized theatre. Staff are very friendly and helpful. As usual at theatres the food and drink are slightly expensive.
J. R.
Attractive playhouse in central Nottingham close to the beautiful Catholic cathedral. Comfortable seating ensures a restful evening at this lovely theatre.
P. C.
This is an excellent theatre for contemporary shows and acts. Very well equipped. The annual pantomime is an absolute must.
g. d.
Al Murray brilliant night
G. C.
Its difficult to rate the theatre rather than the performance. However it is reasonable, seats not to squashed up. It has an expensive bar (same as most theatres)
K. S.
Had a great night seeing Alexi sayle, only thing I would say is it's a bit frightening in the gods, seats and aisles are a bit small, otherwise great place for a night out
K. P.
So good to get back to the theatre to a fantastic performance and excellent staff management to meet Covid restrictions.
L. (.
Nice and intimate litlle theatre. Great for seeing comedians. Would be 5 star but the toilets arent big enough to cope with the amount of people
T. B.

A. R.
We have seen some really good plays here!
B. B.
Fabulous evening at the panto, I would have given five stars but I felt the ice-cream at the interval was very expensive, 2 magnums and a tub of ice-cream...£10
N. D.
Fab night at the theatre but need to find ways of making the queues for the bar move quick during the interval as there isn't time for a drink and a loo visit...
G. P.
Just seen Pantomime, absolutely brilliant as always, best in the town. Everything great, cast, set, music, all of front of house. Looking forward to next one

Wonderful theatre in the heart of Nottingham. Fully accessable with great performances running regularly.

We saw the qypsie queen. An amazing performance. Great story telling. Captivating actors.

Playhouse itself is fine. Just annoying that the start time wasn't on the ticket, just the time of the doors opening 😏
