Reviews of Rock City

Visited Rock City for the first time to see Glass Animals perform. I found it to be a really cool venue which was nicely laid out and included a balcony for a wider view. There was several bars to buy drinks from and easily accessible restrooms.
Couldn't find any fault with the sound system and enjoyed how intimate the venue felt. It did feel a little bit packed at times but I speculate this was more to do with who was performing than oversold tickets.
D. M.
Easy to get, the staff are good you get some good views and prices at the bar are not bad. However few issue are that sound always sounds bit off. The biggest issue is they allow smoking right at the door and then there is a draft into the venue. So if you're at the back near the doors you get 2 d hand smoke.
L. E.
Loved it! Different music rooms, not too expensive & such a good atmosphere. The main room has Ibiza club vibes. If you don't like super busy this place isn't for you!
A. G.
My first time here at this venue. We came to watch the Wonderstuff. We were not disappointed. Great atmosphere and excellent facilities. Nottingham has an array of pubs to cater for all tastes. Rock City is an excellent venue. We will be back!

A good venue for rock music. It's not the cleanest of places. Expect plastic glasses and a sticky floor. There are lots of steps and there is limited seating which is a must for people with mobility impairment. It can be very busy and difficult to see if you are short like me. There is a cloak room just at the entrance. Its central and easy to find but be prepared to queue to get in. The sound is good.
N. S.
Packed to the rafters with people means a great atmosphere, but also hot and sticky. Band was great however.
A. W.
Brilliant venue. Small and intimate, saw brilliant bands here over the years.
M. T. A.
Great place but sound was terrible, and muffled, I've been to many concerts of this band and this was the worse place they performed in
i. w. (.
Pil was as always fantastic and rock city can not be beat ,photos of support only as Johnny came 9n and told everyone to put cameras away as paid to see live music not through a bloody screen ......well said that man 🤘🤘👍
G. S.
Great atmosphere, great music venue. The sound system sounded amazing
G.
A fantastic time had at The Ferocious Dog AGM. Legendary venue, great atmosphere.
Z. A.
Cannot beat this venue ! An absolute titan of live music, sticky floors great sounds and great shows put on
k. h.
Excellent concert venue, superb performance by Gary Numan
N. C.
Staff have always been very helpful. Great place to go for gigs! Iconic!
J. F.
Great venue but I prefer the less crowded post covid days. Too many people at a sold out gig. However the bar staff were good and waits at the bar were acceptable. Band was good but where we stood the sound was poor.
D. A.
Great live music venue. They've got it very sorted with plenty of space and you can view the stage from everywhere. Small balcony. Easy to get served at the bar and que to get in/out moved quickly. Lots of fun
b.
my girlfriend took me to see palaye royale, and it was the first show i have ever been to. it was amazing and the experience was so good
J. L.
Great music venue with a main stage and 2 smaller rooms
M. B.
A really great venue, it never got too warm even when the crowd was alive. The stairs on the left hand side allow viewing of the show without being surrounded by people. The security are really attentive and there are plenty of toilets. (Saw Oh Wonder on 11th April 2022)
P. C.
Fantastic to be back after more years than I care to remember!
A great venue for live music, really close to the stage from wherever you stand.
Good sound and lighting.
I sort of glad I don't live closer but also wish I did...
E. C.
Usually love it so much but have no realised they bouncers are very discriminative. After waiting in the queue for at least an hour they didn’t let our sober friend in for no reason and wouldn’t give an explanation. When looking at the other 2 boys who were also standing outside of the queue they were also mixed race and seemed to be respectful boys.
m. s.
Great performance by Peter Hook an the Light tonight... The best Rock Venue in England since 1980😊
E. W.
Great venue. Went to dot 2 Dot. Music event. Definitely worth a visit.
D. H.
We had a fantastic night at the rock city on 29th of April, the band were fabulous and the facilities at the venue are good.
Plenty of bars scattered around and nice intimate atmosphere. Definitely go again.
J. C.
Been going here to see bands live since One Minute Silence, Kittie and Slipknot played here in march 2000.
It's a small club and stage so you get a good view of the bands wherever you are, though in recent years it has felt a little too crowded.
Alcohol is reasonably priced, £4.50 for a pint and £6.50 for a double spirit with coke. (As of May 2022)
Before the smoking ban the place had a certain aroma that I miss. There is a designated area out one of the fire exits with shelter from the rain for smokers to use though.
Overall it's probably my favourite venue because of the reasons I've mentioned and others like the sound is usually on point.
It helps that I've seen some of my favourite bands here too. I enjoy music festivals etc but there's something more personal when you see a band at Rock City.
H. M.
Great venue for concerts. We were there for Black Stone Cherry. Lots of bars inside for a drink or two, although the price of the drinks are excessive. (£9.50 for a pint of lager and a pint of shandy and I use the term pint very loosely!). Lots of toilets. I'm not sure how people in wheelchairs would get into the main area, but I'm sure they can.
If you do visit for a concert, get there for when they open, as it does fill up fast.
B. T.
Excellent night once again, bar staff were fast and so helpful. Security staff were on the ball keeping everyone safe . Been here a few times and loved every one.
A.
Great sound, uncomplicated entry procedure, good bars, nice size standing area with balcony standing also available for a great stage view.
Parking right next to the venue, scan your debit card rather than take a ticket to avoid queueing to leave after the gig.
E. K.
Really good venue. You can see the stage very well from many places in the building and that's probably the most important bit for me, great sound, nice staff, will definitely be coming back here for more concerts 😊
N. S.
A truly fantastic venue. First time for me. Watched The Wonder Stuff (definitely NOT for the first time) and really enjoyed myself. Hope to be back here again sometime!
h. b.
Venue was amazing for Dot to Dot, we had an awesome time seeing some great live acts. Shannon on the main bar was awesome! Huge shout out to the bar team!
M. L.
Amazing music venue. I have seen somewhere in the region of 200-300 live bands in 20 years at venues and festivals and Rock City is, without doubt, the best place to watch live music. Amazing.
S. C.
Great for gigs and club nights. For once not overpriced drinks either, entry on a Saturday £6 is reasonable. Always very busy and queue was quick.
E. T. c.
Went to the Gary numan concert which was amazing. A really good venue.... Nice and loud from every angle..... Good bar service no long waiting. A very good place to be......
S. H.
Tons of world class live music to catch here 💥
K. D.
Great Venue. Friendly staff. No complaints at all.
S. S.
Decent place queues are mad long to get drinks though like 45 mins+
P. C.
Fantastic to be back after more years than I care to remember!
A great venue for live music, really close to the stage from wherever you stand. …
M. B.
A really great venue, it never got too warm even when the crowd was alive. The stairs on the left hand side allow viewing of the show without being surrounded by people. The security are really attentive and there are plenty of toilets. (Saw Oh Wonder on 11th April 2022)
a. d.
A fantastic venue great very friendly and helpful staff my partner had mobility issues they have a guest list for visitors like that and even provided a chair on the balcony level so she could still watch the bands
j. h.
Can’t go wrong with rc, would say that’s deffo subjective to the night you go out. Sometimes the drinks can be a tad bit pricey and the music ain’t quite on it. But it’s what you have to expect, rock city is always an option if you want to go out last minute. On the gig side of it, best it can be. Have gone to two gigs at rock city, and loved them both.
J. S.
Really great venue, it's the perfect size and it sounds thumping. Drink prices are questionable and they don't taste great, I guess that's to be expected though, Lovely stuff regardless.
A. R.
Always loved this venue but still to this day the place is a sweatbox even in cold weather..... Sort out some ventilation or air flow, im not even saying get air con please make it more a comfortable temperate to.watch bands.
B. M.
Great venue with great sound and even better atmosphere, will make an effort to visit again in the future
Only issue was how long it took to het out of the venue after the show but can't be helped when trying to vacate 2000 people through one exit
M. L.
Another cracking gig at Rock City, dunno if it's the perfect size of the venue, the two tiers and the ease of getting to the bar or just how much us people from Notts love our music but it never fails to bring it!! Everything Everything smashed it, people were still singing on the street on the way out.
a. L.
I have been to many venues over the decades and this has always been and continues to be my favourite. If you haven't been, get it on your bucket list!
s. m.
Best music venue in England. Great view of stage even when downstairs. Good choice of drinks with a few bars.
T. B.
Nice live music venue, good acoustics, great atmosphere. Easy to get to, easy to get served at the bar. Everything was great.
C. T.
Brilliant venue, best in the country for me. Saw Amyl and the sniffers with Billy nomates. Security were great especially Georgie she was so nice and helpful. 100% Recommended
M. T. (.
Great place for gigs, been going for years to see great acts. Smaller and more personal than an arena which makes it a unique experience.
K. R.
Great venue and the sound/lighting is good. Pity seating is not always available for gigs. And £5.50 for a pint?
H. R.
One of the best venues for live music in Nottingham. Fair drinks prices and great acts make for an excellent night out.
p. g.
The staff at Rock City are awesome, they saw that my 15 year old was getting distressed by people pushing forward, the lifted her over the barriers and moved her to the side. Big thankyou to Georgina who looked after us all night. Best staff ever thanks to you all xx
M. W.
One of my favourite gig venues (a decent amount bigger than dive bar venues, but still a lot more intimate than arenas)
C. C.
Great venue, first time there in almost thirty year. The band 'Oh Wonder' were outstanding.
N. W.
Great venue for live music, great views of the stage, I understand why so many artists prefer to perform here.
M. H.
been to gigs here multiple times and by far my favourite venue. amazing staff and brilliant atmosphere always
e. c.
Always love a visit to rock city. The shows always go smoothly and Hanson was amazing as usual, can't wait for next time.
P. J. W.
Great atmosphere and sound, excellent views from everywhere in the venue. Really good night out!
r.
First time in around 5 years many great times there
V. V.
Love this place. I am disabled, and they looked after me so well. The staff are great. The sound and lighting system are both excellent
S. H.
Tons of world class live music to catch here 💥
P. D.
I was their for less than 5 mins for Charli XCX because I was massively hungover and about to pass out but it seemed like a lovely venue to watch a live artist
S. H.
Surely one of the best venues in the UK. Name a better one! We're lucky to have you Rock City!
J. C.
Saw Hollywood Undead and the layout of the place was brilliant. A smaller venue meaning we could be closer to the act. Bars either side of the floor so at the beginning it meant we could get some drinks unlike some large arenas.
Definitely looking into more acts going on there so we can head back
I. S.
A great gig at one of the best venues I have ever been to.. Highly Recommend 10/10
R. &. L. S.
It was the first time my husband and I had visited Rock City and all we can say is "Why has it taken us so long!!" We saw Kiefer Sutherland and he didn't disappoint!! The sound was fantastic for him and the support act - The Adelaides. We will definitely be returning!!!
S.
Quite a small venue which makes for a more personal gig, love the audience interaction with the acts.
I. M.
Went to see the Wonder Stuff.... great place for a gig, superb atmosphere.
S. B.
Saw Example at The Rock City (04.02.22) and the atmosphere was electric!
Rock City is always a great venue for live music - but the place was packed to the rafters and buzzing!... Great times!
A. S.
The greatest venue in the country to watch the best artists
J. S.
Love rock city as a gig venue, unfortunately it has lost its roots as a rock bar/club. OBS can't blame it for trying to appeal to the masses but sad times for true rock/metal/alternative club goers.
R.
Perfect sized venue for atmosphere and getting closer to the band. I saw Fontaines DC; it was intense!
T. B.
Best venue in the Midlands. Staff always friendly, sound and lights top-notch, stage is wide, so you get a decent view from anywhere in the building. Several bars, so get served quickly, bar prices v reasonable. Love it there!
T. B.
Great little venue. You can get up close. And there is a good balcony if you don't want to be crushed!
I took two kids (teens) with me and it felt safe.
C. F.
What a place, one of my favourite live music venues, always goes off in here! Prices ain't too bad!
M. K.
Fantastic night to see The Wonderstuff
D. M.
I came here to see the mighty Mastodon. I arrived nice and early because I wanted to see the support acts too. Russian Circles and Red Fang. Top line-up!
I have been coming to Rock City since 1993. The sound is always very good and so are the views. You can't really get a bad spot to stand. The floors are as sticky as ever and the toilets are as scuzzy as ever.....good to know that some things never change!
I would give a 5 star rating except for the price of the bar. If only they would learn a out simple economics, if you drop the price you will sell more. I literally bought a bottle of water and a pint of something and set me back £7.
Shirts are also sitting on £25 now....I know that's nothing to do with Rock City but....YIKES!
I will be back here for Cannibal Corpse in March.
K. B.
Bouncers are pure nasty, sold out gigs verge on feeling too busy & dangerous, prices are average.
But it's Rock City. I've seen to many amazing bands here not to love it.
M. G.
Bloc Party, great night as ever!
J. D.
Great venue, love not having to que for drinks so puts it up there with the greatest. However, did keep getting a whiff of sick, dunno why. 4/10. Would deffo return.
A. M.
Great venue, great gig but 2 staff to let the queue in (too few) bars not open until half an hour plus of doors opening. Only 2 doors open to let the audience out in the foyer. Someone pointedly said 'Rock City, couldn't organise a p*ssup in a Nightclub' what a shame for such a legendary venue. Hopefully tonight will be better.
P. H.
Great atmosphere and relaxed staff make for a memorable evening. This is one of the best rock venues in the region and a place where you can get up close and personal with major music artists.
K.
Excellent venue for live music, big enough for a crowd atmosphere but small enough to ensure you get close enough to enjoy the bands up close. Great sound and lighting.
Beer prices average 5 quid a pint which ain't bad and the beer is good.
K. D.
Great atmosphere, been going here since a teenager to the club nights. Now mainly for gigs which are always well organised and varied..
d. l.
No problems inside, air conditioned over the crowd at the front of the stage and many bars, several car parks close by
M. F.
Rock city is perhaps my favourite live music venue. It's big enough to not feel cramped but small enough to still feel intimate.
Z. Y.
Great Gig watching New Model Army, the place is a proper shoes stick to the floor kind of place. Fantastic for acoustics they sounded amazing. Definitely would go back 🙂
a. g.
Great place bit Strange without the sticky floor. Have some dam good bands on and of course the famous red strip.
C. K.
Top venue. Been a few times now. Staff superb. Drinks pricey. Well worth a visit
J. B.
Love the place. Great atmosphere and very often have top bands playing.
M. L.
Awesome venue. Not too big and you can order at the bar and still watch the music!
D. S.
It's been a few years since I last visited Rock City, enjoyed it ( the band wasn't bad either...) well organised, ba k in a couple of weeks
D. V.
Simply the best venue for live music...end of
J. M.
Fratellis gig... Fabulous night. 🎸🎶🎤🎹🎺🎷.. Good venue with decent priced drinks and good acoustics.
J. D.
Have been going to this venue for years. Fantastic venue and a great atmosphere. You know it’s been a great gig when your sticking to the floor at the end of the night.
W.
Good venue, but very warm inside and small stage. But all nice.
M. D.
Love this place, it's a true home of rock and metal. Friendly, like minded staff and great acoustics.
A. S.
Still has the same magical feel as it did in the 90s.
c. f.
Visited on a Friday and a Saturday, would recommend the Friday a lot more, if you like bigger crowds and better music. Constant top songs playing, the people playing the music interact with the audience as well to make it more entertaining. Very lovely highly recommend for a dance on a Friday night. But of a queue to get in but worth it, as it means they’ll be plenty of people inside, £6 entry fee after a certain time. Toilets not the best, definitely not clean, but it’s as expected. Average length queues to get drinks.
C.
positive place for small personal gigs … seen some amazing acts there in my time
K. P.
Good venue, some areas not the best for seeing the stage but decent overall.
S. F.
Who doesn't like ROCK CITY ?!?! What a great place, the door staff are friendly and engaging as are the bar staff, and the sound system is bangin !!!
E. M.
Good vibes, good music, good people! Prices are cheap only thing I didn't like was the fact there was no bag searches or body searches on the door.
C. M.
A proper old school rock venue in the centre of Nottingham.
Drinks are standard price for a place like this.
Very nicely set out venue with a decent sized stage, plenty of bars and a balcony with seating.
Talbot street would probably be your best place to park.
Popular acts do book up very fast here.
Last thing to note is that there are tramlines very near by so be careful when leaving especially if you have had a few drinks.
S. W.
Staff were helpful but far too many people were crammed into too small a space. Every entrance involved stairs and some people there had mobility issues such as myself
S. T.
Great Atmosphere, security staff were quick to act if they saw anything they didn't like :)
S. M.
I go to Rock City regularly, this time it was to see Samantha Fish, a talented blues guitarist from Kansas City, Missouri.
Great show, and as always a great night out. Rock City is a great place.
The only downer was that since this show had been moved from the Rescue Rooms due to ticket demand, the Rooms had no show that night, and I thus discovered that it is shut on Sundays when there's no gig. So we had to get our pre-show drink in Albert's round the corner. And, hey! That place ain't too shabby.
M. L.
Great venue. Well organised and fairly decent drinks selection.
M. C.
Fantastic as always, best live music venue ever 😎💀
M.
Was at the Sweet gig, brilliant! Such a shame the majority of 'moden' acts are so poor compared as it's rare to hear a proper Blockbuster hit nowadays that'll still sound great in 50 years time. No wonder the younger generation wander around with blank expressions!
D. O.
Went to watch a show, was really busy and it was hard to see the stage. Beers we expensive especially the cans
K. H.
Rock city is an amazing venue! Great acts on all the time but it still feels like an intimate performance
e.
One of the best gig venues around
D. H.
Amazing venue for gigs. Love it and always have!
J.
Legendary venue packed to the rafters for a fantastic gig. Brilliant night.
r. s.
Great place to see great music
Great to see the teenage fanclub
M. C.
One of the few live music venues that has toilet roll, soap AND hot water in the toilets. Staff are great, except for a couple of bouncers who look like they're about to eat you, your mom and the next 5 generations of your family. If I went there by myself I would've been genuinely uncomfortable to interact with them.
J. L. (. R.
Good service at the bar. Sound quality good. Ladies toilets ok. People just out to enjoy themselves, no trouble.
J. T.
One of the most intimate and enjoyable live music venues, a good vibe and a decent view if you don't mind standing - not much in way of seating.
D. B.
Good venue but obviously packed if it's a sell out gig. Right in center of town with loads of travel connections and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby.
c. g.
Always love going here ❤ even though there's no Red Stripe anymore
B. G.
One of the best pub ... £5 to £8 usually entry fees ... rock , house, techno, R&B and not expensive drinks ... big place , nice lounge at top... e cigarette allowed
C. S.
I went to see The Levellers here this is great venue for concerts it's got character and no poor viewing area's. If you see a and you like are playing Rock City go for it
N. S.
Fantastic venue. Large enough to get a great crowd atmosphere whilst being small enough to be close to the band's.
j. g.
Amazing place went and saw bru-c which was about 2500 people and wasnt that cramped up in the the sound is amazing inside and drinks are a very good price
C. P.
Due to its small size Rock City is a good venue to get close to the band. BlackBerry Smoke were playing and the sound was good and the view unrestricted. Craft beer is £4.50 a can but lager on tap was a reasonable two pints for £7. Great atmosphere on the night.
L.
Great banging music, full of people (always packed), the atmosphere here is to die for, especially if your preferred method of death is heat stroke. My only real complaint is the searing temperatures and distinct lack of air con. Also the security are quite rude, of course I understand that drunk people are very testing at times, however, this doesn't mean you have to treat them like cattle.
Otherwise pretty standard nightclub, recommend going for a night out, drinks are reasonably priced, there is a smoking area, and toilets are decently clean.
M. W.
Went to see The Selecter and From The Jam. Fantastic evening. Great view of the artists and monster sounds. Friendly bar staff and snappy service when the beer was needed. Cracking venue.
M. M.
Superb Venue , right next to car park Hotels and Pubs
R.
Best venue in the UK for intimate rock shows, always has great bands on.
R. B.
Saw the Levellers here on the 17th December. Brilliant show and a good sound. Great venue for a big gig
K. J.
Great place to go on a night out
Resnable prices on drinks and great atmosphere
E. W.
Always a great night. My favourite live music venue
M. G.
Fabulous venue for a gig, not too big and has great vibe
M. L.
Great live music venue. Always a good night out. Unlike other venues, not currently undertaking COVID checks but might well change.
I. K.
We saw Roger Taylor on his Outsider tour, the sound and lighting were excellent. Standing only floor, there are seats upstairs, but no view of the stage. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful.
J. G.
Hasn't changed in years, the sound for live gigs is spot on.
W. C.
Awesome place for gigs, staff very attentive for disabled people
J. C.
Brilliant Venue - really good close atmosphere and great sounding room for live music!
R. E.
Good concert venue, but queuing system for cloakroom was a complete joke, all the way back up the stairs into the concert hall, coldest day of the year and one attendant for a good while!!
A. M.
Great place great bands. The stranglers played a great set as usual fantastic night. Stiff little fingers we're brilliant. A fantastic venue. Music played by great bands live music as it should be. Best venue in nottingham by far
S. P.
Jack and Ali really helped me and my friend. She was very drunk and vulnerable. They remained very professional, catering towards her needs and ensuring she was surrounded in a safe environment for her to get home
L. S.
Best venue in the UK, this place is a national treasure. Rock music feels at home at this venue.
R. L.
Excellent sound, great venue. Bar a bit pricey.
A. M.
it's not bad but for some reason everyone who goes rock city just loses all sense of space and it just turns into a contest of push and shove
T. K.
First gig in Nottingham, to see Opeth, as they missed out London this time. Nice venue, though sound for Enslaved was a bit muddy.
A.
Great venue, up close and personal with the bands.
Brett from Suede summed it up nicely, "rock city has heart and it's great to be back" yes we agree
P. O.
I saw the Macc Lads here...best venue I've been to.
The stage is overlooked by multiple viewing areas.
There is an elevated (balcony) viewing area, serviced by 2 bars, which covers the whole length of stage and wraps around at the sides.
The ground floor viewing areas cover the entire stage and there are a number of raised (stepped) edges all round so even at the back there is a good view of the stage. There are at least 3 separate bars servicing the ground floor viewing areas.
I loved the gig, I've never been to a better venue.
...and the Macc Lads were absolutely brilliant.
K. D.
Great Venue. Friendly staff. No complaints at all.
A. P.
Great venue, great bands
S. M.
One of the best sized venues ever. Been going strong for years. Sound is amazing. Beware though it is often extremely cramped and busy.
P. H.
I always enjoy Rock City nights and would give it minimum a four star but honestly I cannot due to the security guards! Whilst there are a few who are normal and nice a lot of them are vile and treat customers like actually trash. Especially girls it seems like a lot of these guards are on a power trip and like to pick on people smaller than them. Weird behaviour from them !! Love the club but the security guards can easily ruin a sick night which I personally think is unacceptable and should be reviewed.
I. M.
Although I do love this venue and have very fond memories of it I have to say I was disappointed this time. Since the last show I saw here about 6yrs ago I have become disabled. I arranged a disabled ticket and said I needed a chair. This wasn't provided so I had to be on my feet all night. Good thing I have crutches. There was no disabled viewing area and if there was none of the staff knew about it. And lastly I had never noticed but it is not at all accessible for people who can't managed stairs. But as a gig venue it is great and however hard it may be now to get in for me now I will still travel from Brighton to Nottingham to see shows here.
S.
Great place. You had a good view from more or less anywhere - I was literally leaning on the back wall and could see and hear perfectly fine. Bar was well staffed and the staff in general were very helpful.
s.
Great venue but I don't like people
T. C.
Went to see Fontaines DC at Rock City on Tuesday night, wow!! Stunning performance, loads of energy and spirit, took me back to the good old days of punk! Great venue nice and compact. 👍😁
T. B.
Great venue. All covid safety checks were done. I had a great night seeing The Sweet rock band 🙂
c. h.
Great venue for Suede concert. Parking a few mins walk away.
R. J.
Was great to get back to live music after what has felt like forever!
K. M.
Rock city is a great down to earth venue. My son loved his birthday gift of Hollywood undead ticket. Only downfall is seeing the stage it was really hard
R. C.
Flawless music venue and night club. Great acoustics and has the pulling power to attract high profile modern and classic acts.
J. C.
Fabulous venue for gigs. Love it 💕
J. G.
Love going here as know I'm seeing a band I like when I do. Went few weeks ago. First busy venue I'd been to since COVID lockdowns ended. Wish they would have more staff on the bar. Apart from that enjoyed it and didn't get COVID (probably lying because we were all old and been double jabbed 😄).
S. L.
I love rock city. Easily the best place to go for live music.
As a wheelchair user I admit that it's not disabled friendly AT ALL... But they will get the security to carry you up the backstage steps to get into the main hall. There are no disabled facilities at all.
But I'd still choose rock city over any venue in the country.
M. G.
Great amazing venue - Saw beartooth, the amity affliction and higher power on 26/02/2020
D. p.
Lovely gig, a wee bit rough and ready but I love it. Disabled access is strange but exciting. Definitely full of people loving their life and living it to the fullest.
J. C.
Good music venue, Congratulations on 40 years of Gigs.
C. T.
Great venue for live music, friendly staff, decent craft beer selection and doesn't get as hot as lots of similar places
P. C.
Superb venue.
My first time there but not the last.
T. A.
Great venue, views and crowd
T. M.
Solid club, very spacious inside and drinks are reasonably priced (with the exception of new year's eve)
T. R. A.
Best indoor venue around
M. W.
Being going to Rock city since the 80s, for those that remember those days the sticky carpets, £1a pint bitter that was brown in water then we fast forward to today, still a great venue to see bands, fair price and you can actually see the band rather than paying £100+ to watch them on a video screen at a large gig, definitely will continue to see other bands at Rock City
L.
The best music venue in Nottingham, with easy parking. Great night out!
L. C.
Amazing venue, year after year.

Incredible venue with a great atmosphere. Bouncers can be rough at times, but if you stick to the rules you shouldn't have much trouble. Fair prices and friendly staff.
a. (.
Been a few times now, would love to go back again. Always has great bands on, with high intimacy with artists due to the small venue. Would recommend.
A. A.
Best live music venue every
A. C.
What can you say, Rock City it's a piece of rock and roll history. Brilliant venue for concerts.
J. H.
Great venue, although a bit like a rabbit Warren, wished the outdoor smoking area was signed posted.... Took an age to find it, and sadly once there, no seats no bins and not enough ashtrays..
Drinks were quite expensive too....
G. P.
4th numan gig in 5 years ,
Great venue
P. R.
Always a great venue. This time I went to see the dead south and what a great atmosphere. As a venue it's great, I will always be willing to go back.
D. M.
Amazing venue and some awesome bands! Just a shame it's so expensive for drinks inside
A. L.
Excellent venue... I prefer these 'intimate', smaller gigs to the massive arenas. Highly recommended . . . plus Richard Ashcroft was awesome !!!
L. H.
Fun club, cleanest night club loos I've ever seen
D. W.
Gary Numan gig - sold out and great atmosphere!
C. S.
Just what you'd expect from a music venue... Toilets were alright! Someone left a fire door open and it actually meant the venue was cool rather than a sweat fest.
L. A.
I've been to rock city many times and it's always a great venue. This was my first time since Covid started but I went upstairs where there was a bit more space so it felt comfortable.
M. M.
Just the best live venue!
A. P.
Top venue. Could have done with more bar staff on though.
M. T.
Expensive drinks, no Covid restrictions but still a great place for gigs. Handy parking nearby too makes it an easy place to watch a gig.
N. J.
An absolutely fantastic venue with great staff, I always have a great time here when I visit! Pre-covid a great live gig scene, not sure if this has returned yet but I'm sure it will
H. P.
Great venue for live music.
t. k.
Get up close and personal with local up and coming bands. Lots of bars and places to chill out between bands
C. B. F.
Great venue, first gig post COVID with no social distancing. Staff not good at answering phones or emails. Answers were on website but hard to find.
L. H.
Acoustics were excellent for such a small venue.place could do with a good clean, strong smell of urine .drinks were relatively. Cheap
S. S.
I love going to gigs here, it's a great venue and they put on a wide variety of acts. The sound quality is always great and there are plenty of vantage points to get a view of the stage. Bonus points for having so many bars in such a small room, rarely have to queue for a drink!
A. S.
My favourite music venue too see live bands, hands down (or should that be up??)
R.
Came to watch Passenger on the 4/9/21 and it was excellent 👌 👍.
We done to rock city for a well organised event, the bar staff were fast and the security staff dealt swiftly with an incident that happened close by to me and my wife also the toilets were pretty clean too 👍would recommend this venue to anyone 👍
S. R.
Sticky floors. Palaye Royale was great though. Staff was nice
T. B.
An excellent venue to see any artist no matter where you are stud you are no more than 10 meters from the stage and can always get a good view.
B. D.
The band was great but the beer and exit was not
N. M.
Most amazing night, Martyna Kubas was the most wonderful bartender, literally remembered us and catered to us, she should be given a raise she was that thoughtful, remembering my drink order as well. First time back after lockdown and was incredible, cant wait to come back. Love you rock city!!!!xxxxxxx
w.
Excellent music venue. Felt a little amateur with an international band playing.... but the sound produced was world class. Would have liked better management with the entrance and Merch opportunities as there was not enough time from the doors opening and had to queue for AGES after. That aside. Amazing!
M. E. G.
Different day different vibe. You just gotta choose yours🤙🏽
R. H.
Dunno how it was
...Didn't go in.. just waited for people who were inside
M. C.
Great atmosphere. Multi storey car park round the corner. Plenty of bars. Coat rooms. Seating if needed.
T. S.
Wow. This place is so much better than I remembered..no sticky floors!!! The best venue to watch a band. End of.
M. G.
Great venue, saw Leon Bridges here!
B. F.
Fantastic live venue, East Midlands Finest.
J. B.
Great night with amazing security team who managed to provide seating for myself and 2 friends who all have mobility issues. On exiting the building, they even managed to ensure that I wasn't knocked in to on the stairs.
A. M.
Rock city is a great place for live music.
Also last night I found a staircase I never knew existed. It's the little things.
A. C.
Music sounds miles better here than anywhere else. Floor guaranteed to be sticky, amazing
P. D.
Great place for a gig, already got another gig booked
E. H.
Love rock city great venue to see brilliant bands
S. A.
Epic evening. Brilliant way to say goodbye to Brother Pain and Princess Luxury
R. C.
A good venue.
J. O.
Not been here for years but I am really impressed with the condition of the venue and organisation of the event which I attended.
The whole atmosphere of the place feels very professional and focused on the purpose of this venue.
The band I have wanted to see for a while were great but the whole night was made more enjoyable by the staging of the show at this brilliant local theatre of music.
H. c.
The beta room was a great venue to meet and interact with the artist, but the nearest ATM was so far away! A working ATM at the venue or contactless payments accepted for merch would make a big difference
C. L.
First time attending this venue & what an amazing experience it was.
W. G.
Really great place for seeing live bands. Can take a while to get a drink cus it's so busy so buy a couple when you get served.
R. V.
Always liked rock city was even better when Friday night was rock nite but they still have some decent rock bands play there
S. P.
The best quality live music in the Midlands. People are friendly and have a lot of fun. Rock City makes history!
M. M.
In my opinion the best live music venue in the Midlands.
R. K.
Rock city is always a good night out and the best place for gigs.
C. P.
Great live music venue, great sound, prices at bar what you would expect but better range of beers than a lot of venues
K. M.
One of thr best atmospheres for music
A. W.
Great venue. Drinks not to over priced.
M. C.
Awesome venue for rock gigs, although didn't like the fact that after a packed out Wildhearts gig, early curfew at 10pm, there was a pop night. Should have catered for the crowd in my opinion.
H. S.
Brilliant venue for live bands.
E. E.
Iconic gig venue. Not the best sound around, but usually a great atmosphere. Also, as a bonus, because the venue generally turns into a nightclub after a gig, the gigs are all done and dusted by 10pm, which suits me down to the ground.
E. C.
Rock city is a lace where 2 things are assured: live music and a busy night. Great vibes but so incredibly full it was unnerving during this period
B. B.
Great night with the Levellers but if you want a drink expect to be ripped off 5to 6 pound can is a joke😕
I. A.
Absolutely superb, despite the delay at the beginning and then the really long wait in line for merchandise! Hope Starset can come by again in the future!
C. J.
Magnificent old venue in Nottingham. Can't even begin to tell you how much better it is than some of the London venues I'm used to. Great sound, great views from all over. Well priced drinks and awesome security staff. Will always try to get to the Nottingham leg of a tour, even if it means a weekend away.
P. J. P.
One of the best venues in the country.
U. B.
Gets very busy but not bad place tbh
C. T.
A great venue for rock music! New floor since I last attended and it makes for a slicker (less sticky) move around the place. Plenty of opps to move to other places for a better view. Steps and balcony for us smaller rock fans.
Bar, plenty of staff on and all friendly.
Toilets, plentiful and clean.
H. B.
Just got back from seeing yungblud with my daughter and her friend he was awesome. Just wanted to say how amazing the staff was and thanks to them we had the best night and felt safe .The atmosphere there is incredible
L. C.
It is what it says on the tin. Fab rock venue. Rocking atmosphere. Absolutely loved Buckcherry!
J. S.
The whole atmosphere of the place feels very focused & professional. Rock City is one of my favourite venues. It hosts well-organised events, w/ smooth entering & exiting. I wish that more appreciation was given to this place. However, the smoking area is a bit too small.
J. P.
Great venue good view of the stage from where ever you stand.Lager £5 a pint (expensive) not much choice.
P. W.
Great place for gigs and Concets, probably one of the best in the county.
The nightclub is a bit questionable, there were clearly underage people (no ID checks taking place inside the venue) you can go straight from a gig into one of the clubs!! There were also guys of 50+yrs old trying it on with young girls!! Very little or no security presance inside any of the nightclubs!
D. H.
Still the finest place to experience live music in Nottingham. Great sound and atmosphere, always a good night out.
J. C.
Good concert venue :)
The queue for the cloakroom was very long though
D. W.
Great venue amazing atmosphere
S. O.
Best live music venue in the UK? Definitely in the top 4 or 5.
F. D.
Sit down session was amazing, very well thought out and executed, good job, drinks were 2 pints which saved contact with other people as much, music was great
C. L.
Cool venue very intimate for gigs but big enough to feel like a proper venue. Also a bonus that when the gig finishes it turns into a rock club on a Saturday night with several rooms all playing good tunes.
R. “. Z.
My favourite music venue in the midlands. Everyone seems to have a great time here. No matter where you decide to plant your feet, you're never far away from the stage... or the bar. I've had some great nights here and would highly reccomend keeping an eye on their roster as they have something for everybody.
M. S.
Great gig BlackBerry smoke 2 hours of southern rock , the sound in the rock city is so good ,and the fan's were up for and good night we rocked
J. M.
Saw the darkness here. Was brilliant. Love rock city for seeing bands. Great atmosphere and great sound. Shame about the club after. ...would have stayed however they had the likes of Beyonce and other rubbish music lined up for the evening! !
L. t. T. P.
Been coming to Rock City for 30 years, it's seen changes but on the whole remains true to the spirit of Rock. Sure there are more non rock events taking place there now but with a massive student population to tap into, they wouldn't survive without branching out. Great venue to see live bands and still attract the cream of alternative bands. Well done and keep it up. Happy 40th Rock City.
L. W.
Great place to see live music
M. W.
What a venue great atmosphere deffinately lives up to its name 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
T. P.
Went to see rag and bone man there. Always packed, a little rowdy but that's rock city.... Always been the same for years
S. A.
I love this music venue, it's a great size and has good acoustics
C. S.
Such a great night great staff and music
G. M.
It's a good venue for a gig, big, but not too big. Amble bars (never really had to queue for them) and they sell 2 pint cups too!
Toilets are dirty, expected, prices are high, also expected but the staff were cheerful, friendly and the place works well as a music venue. Recommend.
S. E.
Such a great venue and The Darkness were amazing
J. C.
A great venue with a fantastic range of drinks available. Great 90s rock evening on the first Friday of the month in the Black Cherry Lounge. Open until 3 am and reasonable entry charge on the door. Staff were great all night.
R. E.
Saw Sigrid here queued for hours but front row well worth it good venue.
g. w.
Great place to go to a concert and very good event staff 👍
A. P.
Iconic rock venue. Really atmospheric. Sound isn't great but the compact nature of the venue ensures a degree of intimacy with the act that larger venues and theatres lack - this more than compensates for the acoustics...
Plenty of bars etc so no massive queues. Had a great night with just one niggle - total lack of security checks on entry to the venue, anyone could take a blade, gun etc into here without risk of being caught and cause carnage in the packed hall. Really needs to be tightened up now and not after a disaster!
A. T.
Very well organised venue. Never had trouble here, even with show cancellations they’ve been handled excellently by the venue. Drink prices are very reasonable and bar staff are usually friendly. Get the odd issue with security but that’s hardly a venue problem so can’t hold it against them.
P. S.
Excellent venue as always, highly recommended 👌 saw the slow readers club last night and they rocked 👍🏼
B. K.
Rick City ROCKS! Great venue and great staff. Thank you for an awesome weekend.
D. J.
Live gigs are always superb. Having seen a wide range of bands playing all sorts of genres, it has never been dissapointing in sound quality. It is a much better venue (to me personally) than stadiums, as wherever you stand you always feel really close to the stage and performance.
C. M. (.
Buying the ticket beforehand is the best to cut out the wait in the lines. The Cherry Lounge had an amazing DJ and then the main room was too good! I'm used to Derby's mundane night life and this was a great change of venue. Bouncers were all very respectful to us and responsive to a fight that broke out.
A. E.
What an awesome experience!! Love the place. It's just that the queue is ridiculously long and the music got a little slow towards the end.
P. O.
Unique venue which I've been too many times and seen some great bands. This time it was The Stranglers with Dr Feelgood supporting, it didn't disappoint and it was a great atmosphere with a full house of like minded music lovers enjoying the experience.
If you're feeling nostalgic for hot, sticky-floored, shoulder to shoulder energetic music venues of the past then this is definitely one to visit. Don't expect to be able to sit down and chat with a bit of music playing in the background though, it's not going to happen and you are definitely in the wrong place. If you visit, make sure you're up for it and go with the flow because it never seems to change and you'll have a great night.
T. J.
Great venue but cost of drinks is ridiculous
N. B.
Such a great venue, love it
J. D.
Great bands , great venue
P. S.
A nice relatively small venue. Perfect for getting up close to your favourite band. Not the best venue if you have a mobility disability but the staff will do everything possible to assist you have a great night.
P. P.
First time here for the Halloween all nighter! It was a really great night, fantastic atmosphere. Drinks are a reasonable price. I have autism so I get sensory overload in clubs and bars but there are plenty of less noisy areas to sit and rest. Music was awesome! Good to see a variety of people of all ages races sexualities etc etc I would defiantly recommend a visit and I will be going back regularly 11/10 big thumbs up
l.
Best venue I've ever been to. Staff & sound are great. Parking nearby. You can usually see the stage from most places in the venue. Double pint glasses save on trips to the bar. The toilets are love venue toilets😂. Rock City kicks ass!!!👍😃🤘
S. J.
The atmosphere in this place is electric iv seen a few acts hear and never been let down
P. R.
By far one of the best Live music venues in the Midlands....if not the UK. Outstanding
A. W.
Never been while it was open as normal but as is there is plenty of outdoor seating and drinks are ordered easily through and app and get to you fast, not too expensive either, highly recommend!
J. R.
Iconic love music venue. Havi g attended many shows here it is one of the best atmospheres for a gig you'll find anywhere. Though the bouncers can be harsh and don't take kindly to crowdsurfing and have even had fights with bands on stage so that is a major downside. But as long as the bouncers aren't being too over the top it's a great place to see a band.
C. A.
Easily the best venue for live music in Nottingham.
S. F.
Myself, my partner and two friends of ours attended a gig at Rock City 21/04 what a great night it was!! Watching Skindred again on stage was an absolute laugh, the drinks prices weren't too bad either, after the concert, there was music in different rooms for us to dance or mosh our night away to. I'd definitely recommend that you check this place out. I look forward to our next trip back to Nottingham, we'll definitely be heading back here.
m. n.
Went here regularly since the last 3 months. Has always been a nice experience every time i go. Good music Thursday and Friday night. Good priced drinks. Made a lot of friends and memories and crowd is super friendly most of the time. Simply the best in Nottingham.
J. H.
Rock City is a good venue for live music. Sound is always good and the floor is wide and shallow. Stepped landing at the rear allows a better view for those at the rear. Good bar facilities.
Takes forever to empty after a performance. Be aware that it is used as a club and so live performances often start early to finish by 10:00pm.
J. B.
Rock City is honestly one of my favourite places. Incredible for live music, and their club nights are AMAZING. Saturday (alternative music) is my personal favourite, but Thursday and Friday (normal club music) are great too. And as well as being amazing, it's free on a Friday and a Saturday, with a free drink as well! 1000/10
J.
Usually go to Rock City on Thursday nights and they are pretty fun. The music in the main room is mostly pop music, and it is always super busy. The floor is really disgusting though so if you're gonna go don't wear your best shoes as you will have a black substance covering your feet. It's all part of the experience though!
The Black Cherry lounge is so ridiculously hot, I do not recommend going there for more than 10 minutes. The basement is good too if you wanna chill for a bit after the hectic main room. There's a smoking area which is always busy too if that's your thing.
Drinks could be cheaper but you can't really complain, staff are pretty quick too.
There's a photographer that comes round but it is easy to miss him on a night out so you have to watch out for him.
There is also an upstairs balcony in the main room that you can view everything from and also sit down on some sofas.
Everything you could want out of a night out really.
J. M.
Great club, although bouncers are usually horrible people.
K. L.
Pretty good venue for a Saturday night out. Had to pay £6 to get in, which is more than I've had to pay for years but the music was pretty good. Only downside was having beer spat over me (and all the crowd around me) by a performer on stage doing a seemingly impromptu wrestling demonstration part way through the night. That really isn't necessary.
E. R.
Really good intimate venue for seeing your favourite bands. Take noise reduction ear plugs if you want to hold a conversation after the event. Guess the evening depends on who you're going to see.
d. h.
Saw Brian Fallon and The Howling Weather. Great gig and pretty good venue. If you book tickets late and have to collect from the venue, the system is very poor. We had to join the general queue (100 or so from the front) but when doors opened, we had to join a separate queue to collect tickets. This was a very slow process and by the time we had our "receipt" in hand, the rest of the queue (by now numbering about 1500) had entered the venue!!! Once inside, it's not too bad. We stood at the back of the floor which was good. There is a standing balcony which you do need to be at the front of, otherwise you can't see much. There are sofas dotted around for those wanting to relax and listed to the music. Sound quality was good.
J. W.
First off a preface. I've been to many gigs in theatre sized venues. And I must say that this place was the best experience I've had so far in the UK. The air conditioning is always rubbish in these medium sized venues, due to the large ratio of people to space, but this place was cold, the floor wasn't sticky and the sound was great. The bar was friendly and somewhat well priced, compared to the robbery that is the O2 academies. However they definitely had no clue what they were doing. "do you have any porters or stouts" "no but we have guiness" this didn't detract from my experience at all and it was one of the best venues I've visited. 10/10
P. H. (. A.
Surely deserving of the name. I've seen some bands here! Good venue, great atmosphere and mostly fantastic sound. Easy to park nearby and some decent bars within shouting distance. If you need a meal there are tons of places to eat too. One of my favourite venues in the UK.
J. B.
Good sized venue. Always fun with the separate rooms as a night club. Main stage is big and viewable, whilst still being intimate enough with the act that it feels special. Men's toilets are however, always a state.
T. B.
Ok place sticky floor toilets need cleaning more often
D. S.
Good venue, amazing band.
A. B.
This venue is always great.
J. H.
Great night out at this awesome venue. You are always close to the stage here it doesn't matter where you are in the room. With friendly staff on the bar and doors, easy to get to by car and Q-park around the corner I will be back at this venue soon.
S. M.
Best venue in the UK as always
R. C.
Rock City is probably my favourite venue being authentically scuzzy and totally unpretentious. When it's packed with an audience and the band have got everyone jumping there's nothing like it. Yes there might be the sticky floor, standing on crushed plastic glasses and the occasional push and shove but if your expecting carpet, heavier duty plastic mugs and more orderly personal space you need to get out more or go to The Royal Concert Hall!
C. -. (.
Came here to see New Model Army (again!) and can honestly say that Rock City is a great venue for live music. It's big enough to attract some big names but still small enough to feel close to the stage from most of the venue. The upstairs balcony offers a great view too if you don't want be right down at the front in the melee!
I highly recommend this venue. If a band you like plays Rock City, you need to be there!
E. L.
Great club in Nottingham have been many times, drinks are very reasonable (£3.50 for a double and mixer), 3 rooms so is a crowd pleaser. Friday night, main room is general pop/club music, Saturday (my fave) indie.
L. P.
Fantastic, wide venue with both gigs and club nights. Always a go to when a good pl band is playing. The bars have a great selection of drinks and the cloakroom is just inside the entrance, which is a very welcome sight. Amazing choice of gigs, would definitely recommend a visit.
A. M.
The place to go for live music in Nottingham. This venue is legendary and for good reason. The size, acoustics and atmosphere all contribute to make for a memorable experience. A certain Mr Numan played last night and ably demonstrated how a gig should be done. 40 years on and at the top of his game. Awesome.
V. J.
Brilliant venue with a great speaker system.
R. E.
Saw Sigrid here queued for hours but front row well worth it good venue.
A. D.
Seen the Strangers fantastic
b. m.
Great, lovely to see Roger Taylor there
H. L.
Best live venue
C. M.
Lovely venue and crew
K. B.
Good place. Just toilets can be cleaner..
J. H.
Got bopped all owa the place like but good to be back in the greatest club the world has to offer hew.
s. y.
Just been to see suede and it's the best gig I've ever been too absolutely smashed it
S. G.
Been going here for many many years and it's never failed to be a great night! the only venue in Nottingham where you can watch a band in one room and dance to backstreet boys in an other. Great venue to watch gigs for a midget like myself as there is always a good view, Has some great acts, and makes a change from venues like O2's as it has character and a history.
A. C.
I've been here for gigs a number of times over the years. The venue is in a good location near the city centre, with plenty of parking nearby.
The layout of the place itself is great for watching live bands, especially the main room. It has a really wide stage in a short room, which puts everyone pretty close to the stage.
I've only rated it three stars purely because the bar prices are extortionate. They only serve cans, and alcopops in plastic bottles, and they're ridiculously overpriced. I bought a large can of Punk IPA, and a bottle of Blue WKD, and it cost me £8.80.
I. P.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Rock City. I've been to see more bands than I care to remember here over the years. Most of which I've enjoyed immensely and a few I've not enjoyed at all. This is in part down to venue. Wish I could put my finger on why this is but I can't. With it being Nottingham's premier live music venue I'll just have to put up and shut up I guess.
T. I. F.
Great place on Saturdays, and an absolute sh*thole on any other day it's open. Saturday nights have a good selection of rock music and it's mostly students every time. On any other day it's chavs and elders. If you're into rock music and like a good Saturday night out - definitely go here.
S. “. B.
Great location and decent parking options available.
I can't say what the main room is like as I've only ever visited the basement stage, which I found was very good. Great sound, decent stage, decent audience area.
Can't comment on the bar as I always take bottled water to gigs and drive.
In all, I've never had a bad experience there.
PSA: Not a bad point for the venue, but be mindful if you're driving home because if you use a satnav it may take you up a bus lane or two, which will land you a not so nice fine in the mail.
L. H.
Good bar staff, fair prices and good variety of music. I haven't had any problems with bouncers like I have read on some of these reviews, nor have my friends. Overall, brilliant night out, especially on a Thursday night!
D. H.
Slightly disappointing tonight.
Great service on entrance. The door staff are great. Cloak room equally as helpful. However went to the bar and ordered drinks, paid for them, then the girl turned to next customer without giving us our drinks. I questioned this and got a response of abuse saying it was my fault. Wow!
I also work in this trade and know how social media works. It's not always the truth. The girl in question got a look off the rest of the staff and apologised on her behalf.
S. L.
Another great night at the best venue for live music in the Midlands,
J. S.
Fantastic venue, floors could do with a deep clean, but I believe that it is part of the rock city experience to stick to the floor. Also becareful with the cloakroom at the end of a gig, the queue comes from outside inwards not from the auditorium, we got caught out and our queue got told to join the back of the other queue which was huge. It could do with better signage and more staff on the cloakroom, apart from that the place is exactly what you need.
N. G.
Have heard some great gigs here. Spoiled slightly by some poor lines of sight if you're not at the front. In particular the balcony floor isn't raked so really only the front row upstairs can see down to the stage, and everyone behind them has to guess what's going on.
H. C.
Would like to tell the world how great these people are. Wife and I wanted to see Jake Bugg in his home town. We are over 60 and I have recently had surgery to remove bowel cancer so going to a crowded, standing only venue with a very animated crowd worried us big time. Contacted the office before hand who told us to get there early and tell security guys who could not have been more courteous, respectful and helpful in guiding us upstairs to the balcony where the bar staff found us a tall chair type bar stool to sit on overlooking the stage. Shared a spot with pregnant lady so don't worry about this place being too raucous for you just get there early, head upstairs, ask bar staff for a seat and enjoy whatever gig you go to. Great venue with great staff in a great city. Another reason to be happy we moved to Nottingham. P.S. If you want to smash about like a manic pinball then stay downstairs in the mosh pit and let the old and incapacitated enjoy watching you from the balcony. Cheers Rock City!
P. F.
Still the best gig venue in Nottingham. Has tons of character and atmosphere. Seen all my favourite gigs here. Floors are still sticky after all these years but I wouldn't have it any other way.
S.
Great for a cheap night out with £3.50 doubles and music is something for everyone. More mainstream on Fridays, more indie on Saturdays. Saturdays can be great with free entry and drink before 11. Otherwise it can be a little more costly £4-6 to get in afterwards and on Fridays unless you're willing to arrive very early
T. O.
Brilliant venue. Sound was amazing. I needed a stool to sit on due to mobility problems and this was arranged quickly. Loos a bit smelly and broken loo roll holder but otherwise a fab experience. Three days Grace were awesome .
B. T.
A friend and me are disabled and they bent over backwards to help us, even picking up someone in a wheelchair and lifting them up the stairs (they have ramps but they are portable and they didnt have room to put one down as the tour buses took up a lot of room). They also provided quite comfortable seats for me and my friend and allowed us to sit anywhere (within reason so not in the middle of the pit) so we sat under a set of stairs which gave us a fantastic view of the stage. The sound was awesome and the staff very friendly. Just bring some water with you. They dont sell (or at least they didnt when we went) bottled water. Overall, cannot rate this place high enough. Small tip, stay at the hotel behind. Reasonably priced, lovely rooms and great staff.
B. S.
The best gig venue in the UK I have been to so far (beating out most venues in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield). Also hosts club nights which are decent (I recommend Saturday, stay away from Wednesday if you're not a student, because it gets messy).
G. C.
Fantastic night..saw Roger Taylor...what a great venue..will definitely return
S. L.
Great venue. Had fun all night long. Love the changes. The music was of the charts. Staff was friendly and served me pretty quickly. Prices are standard. All in all the place is great.
P. K.
Great times here. Could have better beers. No Guinness. But that doesn't keep me away. Always a good night out. I'll definitely be back. Many different genres catered for. Smoking area and helpful staff.
b.
Great music venue, good sound system, cold beer and friendly staff, hopefully be back soon
M. B.
Classic old skool rock venue. Stick to the floor with all the spilled beer the years. Poor acoustics. All black interior. Load of bar space for lager sales. Not too big to be impersonal. Seen some of the best gigs ever there. Don't change it.
R. C.
Great place for music and live bands
T. S.
Just a great music venue

Went here at Christmas and this didn't seem like the typical night club at all there was people e dressed up on stage santa came out of a bike there didn't seem to be any smoking area. Drinks were on the pricey side and the place was packed even though its paid entry.

As usual, the bass guitar was too loud for me to hear many other instruments.

A stellar venue that's making the absolute most of the covid regs whilst keeping customers safe. Not sure there's a better place you can go in these times.

Great venue, great atmosphere, great band! (Three Days Grace, Oct '18)

Old school sticky floor small music venue. You get to see your favourite bands up close, instead of with 5-40k other people. Not the cleanest place, but do have a pay area for coats if you need that. Atmosphere usually great. Beer is reasonably priced. Premier Inn is just down the road too!

Great place to visit its a very rock based place grime and no frills doorstaff are the usual meat heads. Folks are bouncing off the walls so its a great night out with excellent light shows and epic bands. 3 different levels so there is music for everyone.

Brilliant night seeing George Clinton n parliament and funkadelic . But the sound quality was very poor .

Awesome rock/alternative venue. Complete with sticky floors! 😁 Brilliant for live bands. Central location. They could seriously do with expanding their drinks on offer though!

Great venue, great acts, great atmosphere

Excellent venue for live music, been several times to see bands and always had a good time, recently refurbished and this just adds to the experience. Car park just around the corner is convenient also.

What's not to like????? Great venue

Been going to Rock City in Nottingham for years since a lot of my fave bands play there and it's reasonably close to my home town. A reasonable venue but I have two minor criticisms - not for the first time the Killing Joke gig I went to see started and finished early - 6.30pm doors and kicked out just after 10pm - to allow a student disco to start up giving very little time to get there after work & the sound mixing also wasn't the best. Otherwise they have a good list of bands on at the venue.

Great venue but extremely rude and aggressive merch guy needs to learn some basic customer service skills however. What a chip he has on his shoulder! Decided to take my money else where. Thank u eBay!

Fantastic music venue! Was absolutely packed but the balcony had more space. Good priced bars, smoking area difficult to access

It's genuinely quite hard to review a large dark room. Well, a large dark room with a bar, I guess (bonus star). But I have to admit, I've had a soft spot for this place ever since a very tolerant older brother brought me here as a teenager in 1987. My ears were ringing for about four days afterwards and I genuinely thought I'd damaged my hearing. But that day was brilliant and every time I've been back has been brilliant, including most recently a very on-form Fields of the Nephilim the other night, so I guess the big dark room gets five stars!

I went blind here, in 1989, but it was only temporary... Returned nearly thirty years later, and am glad to report that very little has changed, except maybe the prices at the bar... Mind you, that is the according to the memory of the middle aged man, who's teenage self drank himself into such a state!
If smelly toilets are likely to stop you watching a favourite band, then perhaps wait until they're big enough to play the Royal Center, across the road. And if loud music, and sweaty crowds aren't your thing, then perhaps you should give it a miss, but...
If you want to rock, and aren't too posh to drink from a plastic pint pot, then this place can't be bettered...
Just don't do it on an empty stomach, because there's no food inside. Enjoy!

My boyfriend and I went here to see Richard Ashcroft.
Rock City is a small venue, which in my opinion makes it better!
We were about three lines from the front, and were so vert close to him. The acoustics were really good as well, despite the small space.
There is also an upstairs as well, which isn't that far away from the stage either!
There is a bag and coat section in the entrance hall way, however we did not use it, so not sure how much it was.
This being said, i had a jacket on and was still really cold (we went in November).
If i find someone else i love performs here i would 100% buy tickets!!!

More intimate performance location compared to stadium gigs
