Reviews of The Joiners
K. H.
legendary venue is great. Really like the (unusual) selection of beers. Staff are always welcoming and human.
Occasionally the crowd can get carried away depending on the band.
J. B.
Fantastic venue with a great selections of bands playing the most nights. A personally highlight for me is seeing Wolf Alice! Keep up the great work
B. R.
The Joiners Is an incredible music venue with to notch PA and sound control.
The drinks are reasonable in cost and the venue continuously pulls above its weight with the acts it attracts with returning international artists coming back year on year and many big names playing to the student crowds.
Inside you will find posters from when the Joiners hosted Franz Ferdinand, foals, Radiohead and Coldplay to name a few.
M. J.
An intimate and utterly awesome live music venue with bar and toilets. Incredible staff and atmosphere and amazing artists. Standing room mostly for acts but a few seats in the bar area. Fast service. Great location. Parked easily outside too but did get there early.
K. R.
Great venue, very cool look, wasn't keen on unisex toilets
M. H.
Grass roots music venue that oozes character. This was my first trip out at a proper indoor music venue and what agreat night it was. The venue is beautifully compact with a great atmosphere. But what really makes it, like all of these venues that we must support, are the staff. They could not have been more welcoming and just happy to be back open. Great, down to earth venue.
k. m.
Great place for a gig. Beers good too. What else can you ask for ? Happy days !!!!
N. T.
I have been to this venue on numerous occasions. Both in a professional capacity and as a music fan. The venue it self is an iconic place where lots of well known bands have cut thier teeth and earned thier strips. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the beer is always cold, so far so good. Unfortunately the music venue is a wierd L shape and everyone tends to congregate by the entrance and not by the stage, thus making it difficult sometimes to see anything. The sound in the venue is very subjective, musically it's fine, however vocally it's not great. That said, I love the atmosphere, and I will definitely visit again next time a band I want to see plays there.
R. S.
Nice small venue, polite service and good sound quality.
M. U.
Great independent live venue with a great sound system and a friendly bar
a.
Awesome venue! Keep up the good work and awesome gigs👍👍👍
A. C.
Great small venue, sound is very good, good selection at the bar. I've been watching bands here on and off for the last 35 years !
H. M.
Love The Joiners, visited again after 10 years away from Southampton and was so pleased to see its doing well. Great atmosphere and venue!
F. W.
Came here to see Jeff Rosenstock, and had a great time - the atmosphere is electric, the staff are friendly, and the venue as a whole definitely deserves it's legendary status.
w. t.
Excellent live music pub/ venue. Not overly bug so good view of stage which is elevated. Pub side not that amazing or he toilets which are a bit trainspotting like! Go for the music which is what this place is all about. Earplugs available at the bar for a small charge.
B. D.
Favourite music venue ever! Had the opportunity to see many bands here! Most recently; Creeper! They were awesome.
A. J.
Great venue for listening to live music. Lovely well stocked bar and an area for buying band merch. Staff are all super friendly. The gig room has an amazing lighting and sound setup. Tap water is readily available. You can also buy hot drinks. They are relaxed about taking photos with SLRs.
J. W.
Great Yard Act gig...really good venue!
S. L.
I hadn't been here for at least 20 years, but it may as well have been yesterday! It hasn't changed at all, which is a good thing, because the acoustics are excellent. Disappointed that there is no draught bitter or real ale, but to be expected as the pub only opens on gig nights. Go along and support the local music scene as it ventures back into public venues!
D. A. C.
Nice venue. Nice staff. Awesome bands and gigs
S. “.
Small but totally awesome, full of character and the sound is amazing from the stage. Recommend!!
G. G.
Very small venue. Stood up the whole time. Staff were very friendly though so that made a positive difference.
S. B.
Been many times, great little music venue where some of the big names started out. Although in need of a bit of 'refurbishment', still enjoy going and staff are always friendly. On this occasion we went to see Calum Lintott and band
J. C.
Fantastic gig, really great to see live music once again!
M. A.
I've been to gigs all over the county and Joiners is absolutely the best. Amazing sound and lighting for a venue this small. Have big and up and coming bands playing regularly. Would recommend
P. F.
Good music venue. Very small and sweaty but good sound!
Top quality grassroots music venue, a great place to see bands that will be gracing much bigger stages in the future.
H. R.
Great local bar with live music. Provides a lot of opportunities for up and coming musicians, staff were very friendly and prices were reasonable.
R. l.
Great venue either a good atmosphere for live music - not too big, not too small. Good choice of beers including alcohol free beers (they serve the wonderful Special Effects here)
C. H.
Sticky floor and quite small, but fab live music venue! Highly recommend.
H.
Fantastic little venue! Great atmosphere, reasonable prices and brilliant music. Not far from the high street to boot.
C.
Small but neat venue, definitely a great place for a night if you see any good bands. The show I saw was absolutley awesome, but the venue itself is a bit iffy here and there.
L. A. S.
Played a gig there on Friday with my band 'Apathy Avenue' and it was amazing!! Such a brilliant venue and the staff are very good and professional but friendly and welcoming at the same time
S.
The joiners is a small venue but has seen a lot of big names. The staff are friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The venue also has a mini games console and a computer for visitors to use.
K. D.
Great venue for up close rock gigs
E. S.
One of my favourite music venues, the crowd are almost always attentive and respectful and they book some amazing acts!
L. G.
My favourite venue in Southampton. Cool bands local and international having gigs there. And I like the cider from the tap as well
M. M.
Amazing venue , you could feel every guitar chord/ drum hit rattle your soul. Fantastic Stuff
s. s.
Always a great venue. Awesome music, fun atmosphere. Just fantastic.
L. “. T.
Excellent gig, red rum club was fantastic

D. A.

A. P.
Great live music venue. Always a good atmosphere, freindly staff and ticket prices very reasonable.
A. G.
Iconic venue, many legendary bands have played here.
Great intimate place, can get hot n sweaty!
D. F.
great music venue, small but awesome
P. S.
04.06.2021 First time at the joiners. Cosy venue. Went to see Maggie Cassidy (Guildford), Artemis (Southampton) and the Optimists (Isle of Wight).
Huge wall of sound pumped through venue. This was done a social distance and limited numbers. Vibe in the place still good. First time seen or heard theses three bands. Nice way to spend a Friday night.
A. H.
Disclaimer: I know the owner, but all this applies from before I knew him as well.
Never had a bad gig here as a punter or performer. Good range at the bar, good sound. Acts are well balanced between local talent, up and comers and we'll known national and international acts. It's a staple on the tour list of smaller bands.
m. f.
One of the best venues in the area. High stage so you can always see even the drummer
B. W.
Small pub with performance area/ stage out back. Looks to have had some famous bands play there over the years which is pretty impressive for a pub of its size.
L. S.
Great small venue to see live bands :) parking near by in car park or on street (pay by the hour about £1 per hour)
J. L.
One of the best music venues in the country, this independent makes every gig intimate, even with some of the massive names that it attracts.
N. M.
The Joiners is one of the best small venues in the country. Once you've seen a new band or artist there, it's doubtful it will be as good anywhere else.
I've been going fairly regularly since the mid 90s. Sadly, at times, it seems the promoters still believe it's the 90s, putting on guitar bands and little else night after night.
More diversity would not only reflect the current music scene better but would draw in a wider and younger audience, helping to ensure the venue is still going strong in another 25 years.
B. T.
Great night at the joiners seated gig and table service worked flawlessly thank you so much
H. H.
Good live music place, gives a lot of chance to student bands which is really nice! Bar area is a bit small for my liking and the owners or whoever arranges the music nights doesn't seem to arrange it that well. There's been twice now that my boyfriend's band (The Pretty Dark) hasn't known when they're on until they have to ask the sound check guy or are told when they need to sound check. Drinks are a tad expensive but other than that it's cool.
J. A.
Great little venue, standard dingy, sticky and intimate venue. Not much security, mosh pits police themselves! Awesome friendly staff and good beer. Love going to this place for gigs. The only downside is the surrounding area which is rough!
S. G.
Superb live music venue - great bands and artists, super atmosphere. And as a female gig-goer massively outnumbered by the blokes, there is nowhere I feel safer - people really do go there for the music and don't give the girls any hassle, so no ogling or touching up. Nice one, Joiners!
R. D.
The joiners, steeped in history and host to many iconic bands over the years including The Who, Oasis, Greenday, the Beatles just to name a few. Today these days your not a band until you've played there at least once. Reasonable priced beer. The acoustics aren't the best but then again they never were. A characterful place and the owner Pat is a great guy
M. W.
Quality venue, proper sticky floor vibes
T.
Went to a gig here to see Dream State. They were absolutely awesome and we met the lead singer. Staff behind the bar were really really nice and I didn't even have to tell him what I wanted to keep ordering because he remembered my order everytime. He gets brownie points for that 😁. Place is really nice in general
A. L.
I've been coming for over 20 years. Seen bands when they were starting out and more established acts. Never had a bad night. Good sound and great atmosphere.
C. H.
One of the best live music venues in the country. Good room, good bar, fantastic sound and a ridiculously high standard of touring rock bands. The Joiners consistency punches well above its weight.
B. C.
Friendly staff, and a cloakroom to keep your bag (£1 charge) which is always nice when you don't have to worry about your possessions. Venue is quite small, but it does the job well for making an atmosphere. Drinks cost about what you expect them to, close up and personal to the performance and fun to be able to stage dive from the stage if your ballsy enough to get on the stage and jump. Only missing a star because the sound wasn't the best quality in my opinion, but open to change it in the future.
A. M.
I came here to see Sea Girls perform. The staff were really welcoming and I loved how small the area was, it meant you were never too far from the stage and were able to engage better. If you get there early enough you can nab some cheap parking from around the corner, and it's only a 15 minute walk from West Quay, I definitely plan to head back here again soon :-)
H. G.
Really nice and friendly staff, awesome place to see hard-core bands
J. C.
Great small venue with great sound
B.
Iconic small venue, good place to see live music
D. R.
Great venue, super sound, even has good beer!
Mostly, a great place to see some of the most exciting new acts in what must be one of the most exciting eras for live music in years.
S. C.
A truly great venue, visited for the first time tonight, great staff, fantastic atmosphere and an amazing sound system. Lots of parking nearby and despite what other reviews have said the area it's in is perfectly safe.
S. J.
Iconic, intimate music venue, steeped in history.
I've had some of my most memorable music experiences in this venue.
A trailblazer for grassroots artists and fans alike.
Long live The Joiners!
L. W.
A great intimate live venue thats been around for generations and will hopefully be around for generations to come.
Always a constant flow of great up and coming artists... you only have to check out their past client list to see for yourself. AND GO TO SOME LIVE GIGS BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! Check out someone you've not heard of or support you favourite bands in and keep music alive 🖤💜
B. T. B. B.
Best sounding venue. Ever.
Properly supports live music. This venue is beyond legendary. Playing there makes you sound epic, watching a band there is an up close and personal affair - you don't forget a place like this. Sure it smells funny, sure it's in a weird location - but nothing, NOTHING beats this venue for sound or quality acts. And giving start up bands a break, too. Legendary seems like too weak a word!
A. W.
Great gig and a fantastic venue 👍
P. H.
Historic local gig venue. Been coming here for over 40 years now and just gets better.
S. H.
Excellent small music venue with something different on most nights of the week. There have been some acts that are now big names that have passed through the doors over the years. Reasonably priced drinks too.
S. C.
Good little music venue, does what it says on the tin, provides good space for up and coming bands. I'm no expert but lights and sound quality seemed v good.
D. M.

A. R.
Fantastic music venue for up and coming bands. Great atmosphere.
J. P.
Great venue, staff are really friendly and bar prices are reasonable. Place is slightly in need of renovation but it's not noticeable nor is it needed. Great atmosphere.
R. F.
You usually get to meet the bands at this venue, the stage and viewing area is small but the shows here are intimate. Good memories of shows at this venue. Does get very hot in summer evenings.
G. J.
Smashing venue to hear some classy up and coming bands. Friendly and efficient staff make for a safe place. Also has pretty good selection of beers, lagers and spirits for all tastes.
J. H.
Visited to watch the vitrines, great little music venue and the band were excellent.
A. A.
Friendly staff and decent bar options, good place for a gig sounds good and you'll always have a decent view of whoever's on stage as it's quite small, but personally I enjoy small venues.
D. M.
My favourite gig venue in Southampton. Never changes, always good.
J. H.
Caught the awesome Lebrock here. Great intimate venue, superb atmosphere, brilliant evening.
D. V.
Iconic Southampton venue, a must for seeing local acts and anyone passing through too. Heaps of musical history, long may it continue and prosper
M. I.
One of the greatest live music venues to grace this planet. Some of the most influencial bands in history have played here, and I'm sure there will be many more for years to come.
S. S.
Best place in Southampton to see up and coming hands of what ever genre! I saw Stable Youth that night. They were in a line up of 4 bands that night. Value for money
C. G.
Great venue, great music and great beer!
A. S.
Steeped in Southampton's musical history for the past fifty years The Joiners is soaked in the sweat and ambition of a thousand wannabe bands. I had a great night and I'm sure my hearing will recover over the next few days or weeks
p. g.
Great venue for local bands. Get close and personal to the action. Friendly staff, fair ticket prices and drinks prices. Would definitely recommend!
D. P.
Good place for music in a bar that has been a big part of the Southampton music scene since I used to come here in the 1970s.
The grungy apearance wont appeal to everyone, and the beer selection is dissapointing.
D. K.
Excellent live music venue which I have enjoyed from a young age. Always a great sound with quality sound engineering and decent bands for all tastes.
Z. C.
Saw Tigercub play, was excellent, staff were friendly 🤙
A. G.
What can you say about this Joiners? A cosy, cherished venue for touring bands. So many household names stopped off here on the way to hitting the big time. A simply delightful place.

I went to the Joiners for the first time to see the Cro Mags, the place is a lovely little old school venue, I wish there were more like it around the country. Easy to find parking right outside the venue.
