Reviews of Aberystwyth Beach
J. H.
Love the beach! Had fun dipping in the water. The scenery is beautiful and relaxing. It’s a perfect for the hot summer day! Admiring the sunset and the joy of sea birds! Surrounding colorful buildings and the historical castle make it fun for it as well.
S. W.
I decided this year’s staycation would be Aberystwyth. I had certainly left it too long since I had last visited the town.
My first thoughts about the town is it’s a vibrant place of both old and new melding together with lots of renovation taking place.
There is one thing I have got to say first that is, I hate the seagulls there. Whenever possible my first meal at any coastal break is Fish and Chips. Recommended on the North Beach seafront was Chip Box 4, as we sat on a seafront bench seat I was tucking in and enjoying my meal, I was saving the best part of the fish to last when suddenly I was attacked! Sweeping in from behind me, hitting my head, a seagull knocked my meal straight out of my hand, quickly there were three seagulls attacking my food directly in front of me. I manage to get the wasted food and put it in a nearby bin. But it left me feeling very bitter.
Fortunately, it did not mar the holiday and I do not have anything bad to say about the rest of the holiday.
There were quite a few things I would have liked to have done but a week was not long enough.
It’s a great place to walk with many scenic views.
What I can say is I won’t leave it as long to make a return visit.
A final note, on the last day I went back to the Chip Box 4 to have my fill of Fish and Chips, it might have been a warm day, but I enjoyed them on the seafront, sat in my car!

Lovely visit and stay lots to see and do in the area. Stayed at the Glengower Hotel at the end of the promenade very lucky to have seen the knife angel in the town. Overall a great weekend sadly not warm enough for the beach 🏖
L. T.
Small pebble beach with quite a steep descent and often large waves with a great location for visitors to Aberystwyth. Located right next to the town center and close to the Cliff Railway. Worth visiting at any time of the year. Always perfect for a stop by the water.
G.
Gorgeous beach and coastlines with some crystal clear water. Lovely town with a really nice chilled vibe.
m. s.
Beautiful sandy beach very close to Aberystwyth. Very large and quiet perfect for long walk and rest and very nice place to make pictures. Highly recommended. You can leave car on the beach. 🙂
b. a.
Nice place first time there amazing views loads of shops nice to sit and take in the views
W. J.
A walk along the promenade at Aberystwyth can be quite bracing in the prevailing south westerly winds blowing in from the Atlantic and Cardigan Bay. The full length of the promenade takes you from below Constitution Hill in the north, past the castle to south beach and the harbour in the south, below Pen Dinas, an imposing hill topped with a monument to Wellington. The entire walk is nearly 2 Km but well worth it for the changing scenes as the sun rises and sets in the western sky.
M. C.
Good promenade, beach is quite varied from rocky to stony to sand at different parts. Town is OK but a bit run down & doesn't flow very well. Castle grounds & kiddies play area are superb. Motorhome can park for up to 72 hours on the south part of the prom', pay & display about £6-50 a for 24hrs.

We went for a stroll along the beach front and a drink at the place which for the life of me I cant remember what it's called. There was a wasp there that slightly hindered our enjoyment however the proprietor could not be blamed for this or the humid weather. We had planned to visit the local book sculpture however in our excitement of finding a castle ruin we completely forgot about the book. We are going to return and try and find the book tomorrow....or perhaps tonight after food at Byrgar (local burger restaurant)
D.
Lovely clean beach. Gritty sand. Amazing chip shop opposite the pier on the corner beautiful crisp batter. Worth the wait . Lovely place to visit . Just watch the seagulls dont nick your chips 🤣
A. C.
Nice beach. Not many social distancing on the prom. Quite difficult to avoid, had to keep going on the road.
Some lovely pebbles on the beach.
Dog beach is right at the north end. Not too far to walk.
A. E.
Clean, spacious, pebbles and sand. Lovely views 🤩 nice full waves... saw some surfers 🏄♂️ 🌊
g. 1.
Although pavements are muddy.standing by looking at the sea during sunset is really beautiful, tranquil and satisfying
A. R.
Beautiful beach...and pier...loads of restaurants cafe's opposite side roads of beach...nearest one is pier...castle also very close to beach. So lovely feeling to be here. ***** :)
W.
I love this location, the views from the hill are wonderful and whilst it's a pebbly 'beach' the sea come in so close to the city and it's clean enough to swim in. The Inn on the Pier is probably the best beer garden in the world and when I took these photographs it was during the early part of the year, when the murmuration of starlings is really one of the most spellbinding experiences you are likely to experience in the UK these days.
O. J.
Clean beach at a quaint old town at the mouth of the river Ystwyth
E. M.
Aber beach is great for a getaway or just simply a place to visit.
There is a variety of coffee shops and a pier, with arcades, snooker, bowling and various food shops attached to visit during normal non lockdown periods.
The people in Aber are friendly and welcoming, there are countless amounts of walks and hikes within the locality if you are an avid trekker, and there are a decent amount of shops within the town if you're shopping is your thing.
Pictures here are from the castle opposite the sea and the top of the railway cliff at opposite end of the seafront.
Highly recommend to visit (outside of lockdown)
B. S.
I love a stoney beach and I love to be in or on the sea. This beach is great for that. Takes less effort to clear the stones off my feet and paddle board
H. B.
Beautiful space, amazing beach.. Lovely town.. I can't wait when we Come back❤️
k. f.
Beautiful beach, nice day out.
P. C.
Beautiful bank holiday weather!
They have a designated dog area so we took the dog down. After waiting nearly 6 years to get her to a beach she didnt like it 🙄
At least its a tick off the list for things to do with her.
Lovely fish and chips cooked to order 😋
J. S.
Glorious clean beach and beach front. Very friendly locals and good shops, restaurants and bars.
D. P.
Very attractive, well-kept area. Lovely views and excellent facilities and amenities. Well worth a visit.
u. i.
Black sand beach with very nice views and lovely ice-cream. Nice place for a holiday.
S. G. (.
A bit touristy for me but had a great time here. Probably had something to do with the weather! However, it wasn't crowded and we had lunch at a diner on the promenade. Shops are away from the beach generally which i like. Keeps it calmer. Nice feel and atmosphere.
A. B.
Nice place, can easily spend all day here.
The old university buildings are stunning.
M. f.
What a lovely place, took our furry friends on the beach, had fish and chips by the sea, had such a great fun time
D. S. r.
Great place, needs some woafter the storms
T. S.
Nice views, busy location , parking can be difficult
S. S.
Lovey beach with a very pleasant prom to walk along, plenty of great little coffee shops and vans along the way. Also plenty of eateries covering most tastes
N. W.
Fantastic beach, Also has dog friendly area 😀
Be sure to try the Fish n Chip shop on the sea front 👌😀
P. a. D.
Fantastic free all day parking with a hot shower and toilets one end (lighthouse) with a fantastic reasonably priced alfresco diner the t'other (vernacular railway)
E. J.
Lovely clean beach nice walkes along there
G. B.
Always a pleasure visiting. Home from home. Helps having lovely weather.
J. R.
Wonderful place lovely and clean good variety of shops and places to eat , i would definitely be going back
A. B.
Good place to visit with the grandchildren, plenty of things to see and do.
L. M.
Stone beach not my favourite but ingeneral nice place and people
T. M. L.
Is a nice beach when the sun is shining. Managed to park next to it on recent trip, woohoo.
Update. The sun wasn't shining on my latest visit but went for walk along the prom and noticed how many of the buildings at the far end are student accommodation
M. S.
Nice beach (black sand and stone). Sea can be a little rough but fine to walk down. Dogs allowed on the beach anywhere out of season (check the signs for exact dates)
J. -. S. T. t. T. P. G.
This is a lovely dog friendly beach to walk, great views & a mix of modern & traditional seafront shops.
C. J.
Although more gritty than soft sand, it was still a lovely beach. We went for a walk with our dog & even spotted dolphins!
S. R.
Lovely beach plenty to see and do..
M.
Went with the family .Nice clean sandy beach with tropical sea . The car park is right near the beach so its not too far to drag our paddeboards . We also went fishing on the harbour and caught a sea bass . We cooked it on a bbq which we bought from the near by convenience store along with salad things . The sandwich shop has very nice pizzas . Everything including toilets is close so there is not to much waking. Really recommend , had a lovely day out.
L. B.
Great beach as the tide doesn't go to far out and it's lovely and clean everywhere
J. S.
Lovely west facing promenade, superb sunsets and great views.
M. A.
Great beach amd very clean, a few others in the local area too.
m. d.
Lovely place
M. T.
So much to see !!
B. B.
Great day, clean, great for crab fishing and the castle ruins were a hit with the kids.
M. H.
A lovely place to wonder around , more to Aberystwyth than the promenade.
c. s.
sea is nice and clear, stones are abit sharp and burn ur feet when its sunny. jumpin of the peer isnt safe as its rotting. overall fun place but to many rude people, wouldnt come again
J. C.
Wild and interesting on a grey day, access to Wales Coast Path,
T. P.
Lovely visit but would only go for the day . Not much to do especially with a 10 year old to try find things to do with we went for 3 days ended up travelling around looking for things to do . Also plenty of fish and chip shops but not much else especially if your vegetarian.
G. L.
Long promenade for a long walk . There were plenty of rubbish bins and benches if you want a rest . The beach was clean with no obvious litter . Watch out though as there was a lot of dog mess in places along the pavement .
K. M.
Love this place. Beach is kept clean & tidy.
Bars & restaurants are now open across the beach front road from 9-6pm so hard to keep social distancing when this happens as everyone walks anyway they can.
A lovely town & lots to do, places to eat & things to do. People are all friendly
N. W.
A very wind swept afternoon here and wet but lots of people still milling about near the sea front. Its not a sandy beach. Lots of good seating all the way along the front. On a nice sunny day PD's diner is a great place for lunch as its all outdoors. Great pier and the starlings love it to roost each night, that's a spectacular sight to see. Ambassadors does fabulous ice creams. The sea front is about 5 min walk from a bustling town centre.
J. M. (.
It's a good place to relax (If you ignore the pebbles) if you have some time to spare. The pebbles can hurt if you step on them, so just go to the areas with near no pebbles and you should be fine.
s. b.
Stunning blue sea and great places to eat.
J. L.
Great place to visit in the sun, the beach is very clean and the views are stunning. Loads to do in the area with plenty of places to eat and drink. Very nice pier bar allows you to relax and have a beer overlooking the sea.
J. A.
Best place for a day trip.
J. a.
love the beach and the whole area. plenty of car parks.
J.
Nice promenade, beach mixture of sand and stones. Good coastal walks nearby.
C. P.
Beautiful and free parking in September
C. O.
Lovely scenery, giving it 3 stars because its not sandy, other than that it's clean, lovely for walking
w.
Nice beach. You need to get in early for finding promenade-side parking. Second the parking bay markings need renewing as it is hard to read if it is disabled, taxi or loading bays, this is the same for the rest of the town. There are toilets near the beach (about half way along, a little hidden between the seafront buildings) and a nice little cafe on the prom.
F.
Aberystwyth beach is one of the best parts of Aberystwyth, no matter the season
d. m.
Great motorcycle parking close to beach & fish & chip's and ice cream # sorted .
L. B.
A fabulous beach dog walk on a bright November day. Although the temperature was quite low the sunshine kept us warm. The girls, Evie and Ginny just ran and ran on the sand and pebbles and chased a few waves. Only a very few other dog walkers meant a nearly deserted beach. A great day out.
m. g.
Visited on our way home . Clean seafront. Town is a little run down. We parked away from seafront and walked through shopping area and back streets not welcoming . Sea front had a drum band performing to accompany our lunch . Had a lovely walk up sea front taking in architecture and mosaics . Very pleasant before a long drive North to Yorkshire.
N. F.
Indescribably fantastic ! Awe inspiring ! It has everything in one place , in our opinion ! The views from the Castle mound are Breathtakingly Spectacular ! Never been anywhere like it ! Where there's Such history alongside a pretty beach ! Playground for kids too + very pleasant park. Glorious atmosphere on a Summer's day !
I. O.
Superb place for a romantic walk. Or just for jogging, playing on the beach. Pier with games and you can have some fun after a day at the beach. Pubs enough to enjoy some drinks and to have a rest or to enjoy some food. Just next to the beach it’s the castle wich has got some amazing sights. Highly recommended to everyone. You will not be disappointed. You also can enjoy an amazing sunset. Enjoy
R. M.
It is lovely but because of all the recent storms is starting to look a bit run down - the pier building could do with an overhaul & some of the larger building along the front all need a good clean & spruce up - but Aber is still a place we love just a shame that it is starting to look it's age a bit !!
D. W.
Very quiet on our visit which has more to do with the weather than anything else beach is clean and looks like on a hot day it would be packed. The promenade is long and is a nice walk with lots of views.
c. r.
Lovely old type sea front, with the pier great place
C. S.
Some of the finest sunsets anywhere can be found in Cardigan Bay, especially at Aberystwyth.
J. B.
Nice Welsh coastal town with nice roads for motorbikes.
J. D.
It's just brilliant. If you haven't been, Aberystwyth is amazing, especially when the weather is nice. Castle, Constitution Hill, pier etc. Ype, great location for a staycation.
A. I.
Epic quiet beach, free parking and a few castle ruins just add to the scenery. Great beach for walks and to just enjoy the view.
F. S.
Traditional Welsh seaside town.
I. 1.
Such a lovely sea front 👌
P. G.
I love Aberystwyth one of my favourite place
D. R. W.
Although there were still restrictlions because of Lockdown regs it was still a nice place to go and ride along the prominade on my mobile scooter and sit and enjoy the sea. The places that were open were very pleasant and catered quite well.
J. C. -.
Aberystwyth beach has it all. Clean, good for swimming and amazing views. It's particularly good to watch the sun set into the sea.
A. S.
What a lovely beach and sea front. It is a proper traditional promenade without the tacky sea front attractions that are so common now in English seaside towns. Well done, Wales stay quaint xx
E. B.
Clean beach with lifeguards. Good amount of space for dogs walkers either side with the main beach in the middle. Very rocky in parts and sandy in others. Loved it!
M. A.
Beautiful scenery!
Very pebbly beach so wearing some some form of slippers or flip flops if your planning to take a dive might make it more comfortable.
E. E.
In its own way, a ‘must go place’
M. '. Y.
Ok beach with lifeguarded area during peak season. We didn't find it suitable for bodyboarding, despite some reports suggesting it was. Pleasant enough but parking very limited and gravelly beach does put it on my 'must return' list. Probably the closest beach to the Midlands.
M. D.
Clean, windy but open and safe. Cafes all open till Friday 23rd then take away only and only essential shops to be open for two weeks due to covid surge fears
M. C. (.
Lovely beach, clean and mostly stones. Not much sand. Loved the kids jumping off the jetty without the health and safety police intervening.
D.
Strange atmosphere here, not helped by several derelict buildings on the promenade. Not sure what to make of the place. Bit of a stoney beach. I noticed quite a few large jellyfish in the water ( from the quayside). No idea if they are the stinging variety. Will add more tomorrow after my second day here.
Well the place grew on me. Some interesting shops and places to eat. They had a litter team driving around emptying the litter/recycling bins-so well done local council. They also need to address the dog mess on many pavements. Seems this town attracts many dog owners and some of them are not picking up.
Dog Wardens? Come on Aberystwyth Council- this needs dealing with !
Its also a bit unusual to have student accomodation on a Promenade- but maybe thats better than it being Amusement Arcades.
Strange arrangements on the pier. 1. To sit on the pier you walk through an arcade and a snooker venue. The pier itself is not really worth it anyway . Small and scruffy/souless. 2. Order chips at the shop on the Pier entrance and they take your money , then you join a queue for 15 mins whilst they cook it, and will even text you when its ready in case you wander off!
Never seen this before in my life. Chips are Fast Food- serve me straight away from pre-prepared hot food. Very unconventional. Tasted ok though.
Theres an excellent J.D. Wetherspoons in the Railway Station. Had I known it was there earlier, I would have avoided the chippy.
Would I return to Aberystwyth? Probably not, I have seen it now. Too many other places to explore rather than revisit a place I have already seen.
S. Y.
A very nice beach, but not of sand. It's stones and shingle, but the place has a lot to offer in terms of scenery and walking etc.
S. M.
Loved it :) beautiful gravelly beach.
W. S.
Lovely walks along sea front. Stop of at cafe or ice cream parlour. Detour to amusement arcade. Or walk round by the pier to the Castle Playground for kids. Plenty to do for everyone.
A. M.
Loved it here...the views were amazing...watched the sunset from the beach...kids loved playing on the sand and in the water
S.
Ok if we are talking simply beach then it's worth driving up the coast as the competition of local sandy beaches doesn't help aberystwyth at all on the flip it has watersports that aren't available at other beaches and paddle boards can be hired for a reasonable price. The sand has alot to be desired but I go for the excellent homemade pizza and alcohol that is served right on the seafront and is a quick tasty meal that I would recommend on a nice day as you look out over the beach and enjoy some good food in the fresh welsh air.
j. s.
Its an ok beach. Its a stony beach (stating the obvious) so remember those flippady-flops if your swimming. Only a small section manned by the life guards so you cant spread yourself out across the beach if your planning to swim.
T. W.
Nice sea front to walk along, no sandy beaches but that didn't stop people enjoying it, there were plenty of people on the beach and in the sea. (It was a very warm day)
P. W.
Great walk along the prom lots of places to eat or have a drink. The glengower is a lovely place for food right on the front try to get a seat by the window.Walk further up the prom if you like sport The inn on the pier has different sports on various tvs and a pizza shop in the bar.If you walk further past the castle to the harbour theirs a small cafe restaurant that looked really good enjoy your walk.
N. E.
Great place to visit, plenty of places to eat and drink. good train ride to devil bridge
m. h.
Sand and stones pooches welcome at times during the season with lots of areas for kids. B&B on the front and in the town with plenty of eating places. Enjoy.
S. N.
Love it here everytime

S. B.
Wish it was dog friendly all year around, our pooches want to enjoy their holiday too, and when us owners have had a day in and out of the shops it would be nice to treat the dogs to a run on the beach
T. M.
Great ride out.
R. M.
Lovely place to relax and enjoy
B. W.
Lovely beach and town
B. H.
Very enjoyable. Sort of gritty sand but thats ok but no good for sand castles I wouldnt think. Enjoyed a wander on ghe beach and even had a little paddle.
J. C. G.
Lovely just need better luck with the weather.
C. E.
Loved it here, dog friendly at the end of the beach (cliff railway end)
Plenty of parking, clean litter free beach
Was lucky enough to enjoy watching the dolphins too 👍
W. R.
Beautiful walk along the coastal path all on the level. Really suitable for the disabled.
D.
Nice beach not to rocky, can be busy plenty of shops around the area and restaurants.
D.
Beach made from black shingle, so it's not a sandy, yellow beach. But it's very close to the town, has a lovely pier attached and access is easy.
O. R.
Beautiful place, very steep beach deep water in close.
C. T.
Lovely clean beach but not overly sandy where we were, it was made up of very small stones. However a little walk further on was more sandy
A. T.
Always Aberystwyth seafront a pleasant place to be and watch the world go by.
R. G.
Sunny, people swimming, walking in the sun, great.
E. M.
Nice shoreline but, clean & well kept

M. K.
Absolutely brilliant 1st time here today. Scrummy fish & chips on the promenade, with 26c weather. Wonderful
J. F.
Aberystwyth pomanade great for strolling, with a few cafes providing good fare also childrens rides the pier is a good vantage point for seeing the whole promanade and nice views across the sea, beach is quite stoney but still good for walking and swimming worth a visit when in the area
W. G.
Lovely walk, very very, busy as sunny day, no chance of parking on seafront.
D. J.
Prefer it after Summer, then it's dog friendly on all parts of the beach. Us dog walkers use the beach all the time. ☀️☔🐕👌
J. E.
Such a stunning place. I can sit on the front and lose myself in its beautiful view. This town has stolen my heart

What a lovely place to visit, although I had to witness some father and son kicking the seagulls, can I just say,if i knew who you were, you would of been reported, shame on you, hope you dont have any animals.....
S. S.
It's not a sand beach but besides that we enjoyed being here very much, lovely atmosphere and people.

(Translated) The beach may not be sandy but it is very long You have to remember about the tides because you can be surprised There are cafes and restaurants nearby that invite you to come and visit It is worth spending the whole day to stay in this city and the beach
(Original)
