Reviews of Belfast City Hall
A. K.
City Hall is brilliant. I visited Belfast City Hall during my trip to Belfast this year. I wasn’t able to visit previously because of closure during Covid on a previous trip I made. The wait was worth it as I was amazed by the stunning architecture and design of this building. There was a exhibit put on when I visited about the history of building, the people of Belfast, and the vision of the town. The entire exhibit was a delightful experience learning. There is a cafe inside of city hall that supports people with autism. The food was delicious that I ordered from the cafe. I had the tomato soup and bread with butter. The building is kept up with and the grounds is well maintained. The employees of Belfast City Hall were all knowledgeable and helpful in my experience.

The Belfast City Hall is filled up with history and fun facts about Northern Ireland. Perhaps one of the most welcoming places in the city where you get to explore interesting exhibitions and enjoy classical architecture. Admission here is free and they also offer guides tours, the latter with scheduled times. Make sure to budget some time to have a full experience, you can easily spend one to two hours here.

Very good exhibition about Belfast history, and do go on the worthwhile tour of the building. Impressive features for a city hall! Marble, murals, stained glass, carved wood. The guide was willing to answer any questions about the building and governing body. There is a café also, and toilets. A memorial to the Titanic victims is outside.
C. B.
It's a lovely building - go inside and see for yourself! The staff are very helpful too. On a clear sunny day you can do a lot worse than sit in the grounds and watch the world go by. I highly recommend the marble masterpiece inside. Also on a warm day it is always beautifully cool and pleasant inside.

Centrally located in downtown, this is a building worth admiring thanks to its design and monumental size. The entrance is free to the exhibition downstairs but I learned that there are free guided tours as well. It was definitely interesting to learn about the history of home rule and about iconic Irish individuals throughout modern history. Make sure to visit the Titanic memorial which is just outside the building.

It is not possible to miss the Belfast City Hall when you get into the city centre. It is dominates buildings around the local metro bus Centre and the city centre as well. In November and December each year there is every year for six weeks a Christmas Market on front of the Building in the park of the City Hall and that gather many people around this building. When was not pandemic also over christmas time the entry was open to visitors get in. Normally inside in the entry hall is standing by very nice Christmas three with nice decoration. So looking forward get in again when the pandemic is over. Over summer is also nice sitting outside of the building there in the park and take relax. Overall nice place I recommend to visit with the Belfast Castle which is a couple miles away of this place away, but still is Worth visiting.
R. D.
Beautiful building that offers pride of place in the city centre. The stained glass windows are beautiful. The free exhibition is well worth a visit too. It covers everything that is Belfast - including history, society, industries, politucs and famous sons and daughters.

Belfast City Hall has something for everyone. It’s still a working building but also offer free access to the public to enjoy the many exhibitions is holds. There is a very nice coffee shop, the Bobbin, where you can rest and grab a bit or sit and relax and enjoy a coffee. On the ground floor there are fully accessible toilets as well as a breast feeding room. The building itself has magnificent architecture and is well worth a visit just for that and during your free tour see if you can spot the fake pillars, the originals having been destroyed in WWII when Belfast was bombed by the Luftwaffe. The grounds around the hall are well laid out and many office workers come there to sit and enjoy their lunch as do others just visiting. Don’t take my word for it, come for a visit, you will not be disappointed.

We spent about 2 hours in the city hall and thoroughly enjoyed walking through the exhibition. It was very informative and a great insight into local life throughout the years. Whats more, both the grounds and the hall itself were beautiful, with something new to look at wherever you turned. A perfect afternoon spent for history lovers!

St Patrick’s Day parade! Wish it had been longer but a great buzz in the city centre. Place was bunged with people. Very well organised by the Council. Everyone was in great form. Shame the rain started for the parade though but hey, it’s Ireland!
A. P.
The permanent visitor exhibition opened in 2017 and is located on the ground floor east wing of Belfast City Hall. It offers a self-guided journey from Belfast’s past to present, showing the vibrancy and diversity of the city across six themed zones.
The exhibition stretches through 16 separate rooms, all presented within the original architecture of City Hall as designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas in the late 1890s. It is free to visit the exhibition.
Currently having no fee to visit.

Visited the Christmas Market. To be honest it is was expected, which is mainly for food. It was worth visiting with family if down in the area already. Wasn't too crowded which helps in this covid climate and do check vaccine records before entry
I. P.
Not only did I find Belfast city hall to be open even on Sunday, but it is cool, ornate, beautiful inside with many rooms with beautiful displays inside. Plus beautiful stained glass windows. Did i mention the best and biggest bathrooms in Europe? Easily! And free.

Belfast City Hall is the civic building of Belfast City Council located in Donegall Square, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It faces North and effectively divides the commercial and business areas of the city centre. It is a Grade A listed building.
A. W.
We had a tour of city hall today. It was a great 45/50 tour and if you're interested in learning about the workings of Northern Ireland. This is great. Then go on a Troubles Tour and Stormont tour. They all tie together.
L. W.
Belfast City Hall was constructed when Belfast was booming. Construction started in 1898 and was completed in 1906. Its roof stands at a height of 53 metres or 174 feet and its architect was Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas. On the 27/11/1975, the building was granted Grade A Listed Building status.
Belfast City Hall can be found located in Donegall Square. The building effectively divides the commercial and business areas of the city centre.
The grounds of City Hall are immaculately kept. There are many benches in the grounds to sit on, as well as number of statues and monuments, including a tree that was planted in 2002 to commemorate 11 September attacks in the United States.
I never got a chance to see inside the building, but that is a good excuse to return to the city and view the inside for myself. This a great place to see, even if if just the outside and the beautiful gardens and statues.
B. G.
Belfast Market back on. Lots of diffent varieties of food to offer. Some unique stalls and two bars
S. N.
Beautiful architecture for the Belfast City Hall. The Belfast City Hall is also a fantastic location for the Christmas market with many vendors selling foods and gifts.
For the Christmas market, I was here while on a Giant's Causeway bus tour and wish I had more time here.
a. k. v.
Very beautiful architecture with a lot of outdoor place to relax and rejuvenate. Its located in the heart of Belfast City.
C. B.
A must visit if you're in Belfast!
A stunning building in its own right, but then you have the Titanic memorial gardens located in the grounds, as well as historic statues and plenty of space to sit and relax.
Inside, the building is equally stunning, look up when you get into the main lobby... Followed by all the stained glass windows.
Even a brief visit is worthwhile, but you could spend a few hours here.
Right now, it's recommended that you pre book as they're limiting numbers because of Covid.
W. W.
Amazing architecture, exhibits and stained glass! Titanic memorial and many statues outside as well.

City Hall has the 'wow' factor.
Belfast City Hall is the civic building of Belfast City Council located in Donegall Square.
As a Northern Ireland resident, this building makes me proud to come from this country.
I have visited several times with guests. My husband and children love it too!
N. H.

Wonderful building with a free museum inside documenting local history.

Belfast City hall is an impressive building and is a fitting addition to the city. There are tours of the hall which are worth going on. There is also a café which isn't bad at all! Love the memorial to the V.C. recipient and of course the memorial to the Titanic victims is very sad...
C. L.
Beautiful building. Easy self guided tour. The Bobbin Cafe is a good spot for a quick tasty inexpensive lunch. Highly recommend.

I. I.
Beautiful building and very nice park!

I visited the City Hall with a guided tour which was good. The Christmas Market is currently in the City Hall grounds. It has lots of food outlets and other general stalls such as jewellery, hats and sweets.
J. J. P. R.
I've seen this building in Belfast about few times and it's absolutely beautiful. It is somewhat very similar to the Custom House in Dublin.
I am a visitor from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪
L. S.
Great venue for the Christmas markets. Although it’s the same shiz every year which is disappointing
P. S.
Huge old building, well maintained. Most of time, some celebrations are always going on.
Happy Christmas Belfast.
Very beautiful from inside as well.
J. D.
Beautiful historical building that is definitely worth seeing and the fact that it is so handy to get to from the bus station and central to the city centre is very useful too. Has a Titanic Memorial Garden on the grounds outside with a lovely monument to those lost. The Christmas markets are a great addition to adding to the city atmosphere from middle of November onward to start of January.
L.
Enjoyed spending time outside in the Christmas market and outside visiting exhibitions. The building itself is a wonderful piece of architecture.
J. F.
Beautiful building, I have sang here 2 times with my choir. Lovely stained glass.
R. V.
A beautiful building inside and out, well worth a look. The free exhibition of Belfast's history is really well laid out and well done, both information and interesting without being overwhelming with too much text. There are also a few free guided tours throughout the day.
C. S.
Stunning structure in the heart of the city. Absolutely spectacular stonework throughout the hallways!
A. M. L.
Belfast City Hall is the civic building of Belfast City Council located in Donegall Square, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It faces North and effectively divides the commercial and business areas of the city centre. It is a Grade A listed building. One of Belfast's most iconic buildings, Belfast City Hall first opened its doors in August 1906 and is Belfast's civic building.

Stood at front of City Hall to watch King Charles III go past...welcome to Belfast.
M. F. (. G.
Beautiful building, must visit.
A. L.
Very comprehensive exhibition about the growth of Belfast, the 2 wars, independence and the city today. If you want to see the council chamber, sign up to one of the free tours which run through out the day. Our guide was excellent. He was informative and spoke well. If you have time to kill or it's raining outside, there is nothing better to do than visit the City Hall. It's all free today. PS there is a cafe which sells huge chunks of cake!
A. M.
Beautiful binding. The Victorian architecture it’s notable as the statue on the front.
By the way, I found something suspicious if you look at it from the left side. 🤷🏼♂️
The building change a lot at night.
Once of the best places to visit (architectonic speaking) in the city of Belfast.
A. K.
Located inside the city 🌆center, it is grande and beautiful city hall. We were not able to visit it from inside but the view and the building architecture from outside was stunning. Very well maintained. It looks even more beautiful with lights in the evening 🌆
E. C.
Free guided tour is so great that you can learn a lot of Belfast history here! Our tour guide Christopher is really friendly and willing to answer any question you may have. It's also a good chance to visit some restricted area, such as banqueting room, council room, etc. Really interesting place for tourists!
B. R.
Great place to simply do nothing in summer!
Seriously, if you can spare time, visit the City Hall and see the history of the city of Belfast. It is a place where you can spend a lot of time and not be bothered about rushing to your next destination.
We were travelling as part of a Trafalgar group in June 2017, and had spent some quality time here, simply soaking up the sights and sounds of Belfast.
T. R.
Lavertys won't jam you in . The staff were friendly and look after you well done. Stalls throughout Christmas market were class smells were delicious
I. R.
Very nice architecture, the location is clean and well-tended. Free exhibition about Belfast history ,famous people and Titanic. The entrance is wonderful and you can take pictures easily. There's plenty of lights and you can enjoy the details of a painting or sculpture. Take a break at the coffee shop. Enjoy a cup of tea with a delicious scone.
D. “. B.
Beautiful City Hall right in the heart of shopping and restaurants.
P. Ó. C.
Awe inspiring building both outside, and inside. Said to be the Grandest of all City Halls built throughout the United Kingdom. It is said the British did this deliberately. Guided tour is recommended as some areas are restricted access. The grounds around the building are always a hive of activity, Winter or Summer. The craftsmanship in the construction inside and out will astound you. And it's right in the middle of the city. You won't be disappointed.
m.
The city hall is absolutely stunning. Very rare to find any goths sitting around like in the past days which of course means that the scenery is now improved. Inside is just as beautiful as the outside. There is also free tours which is always a plus! Come at night when it’s quiet and lit up to get the perfect photo for your insta!
a. a.
A free tour. Do not hesitate. It worth your time. Just walk in.

M. B.
If only the walls could speak, the tales they could tell, both for inside and outside. Get some details out of the way, built by 1906 in a baroque style. Intended to be a landmark that would live long in the memory. Outside, stylish but modest in size, whilst internally, a decor of sheer beauty, a flowing staircase with various marble structures, stained glass windows and a coat of arms for Belfast.
Even though it suffered many destructive moments, including the Blitz, it still stands proudly, with gardens and seating areas commendably maintained.
With a cenotaph obliging both communities, it stands proudly and is a full representation of the modest but stylish attitude of the friendly warm people from Belfast.
"Modesty is the gentle art of enhancing your charm by pretending not to be aware of it."
P. K.
The exhibition part is amazing!!! Best museum in Belfast. If you don't have much time in Belfast. Just do this one.
I visited war museum and Republic Irish museum, they are incomparable. This one is phenomenon. Totally unexpected to be seen in City Hall. Do not miss ot
N. W.
This is a great place to chill out on summer, and on winter there will be a Christmas market which is fantastic and offer an excellent variety of food and goods. The place itself is really clean and well-maintained. It is just a few minutes of walk away from various fast food shops or restaurants (including some shopping centres like Castle Court or Victoria Square), so you don't have to worry about being hungry. There are also a lot of bus stops surrounding the city hall which will go to various parts of Belfast, so this place is a great place to start your journey!
A. R.

Historic Venue situated in Belfast City Centre, opened in 1906 and located in the heart of Belfast City Centre
Belfast City Hall is not open for all types of functions so it has been a great pleasure to be a supplier for events in the past. The room is majestic, as is the rest of the building and it is a great venue for welcoming visitors to Belfast
Booking a function room at City Hall
City Hall has three functions rooms. These can be booked for specific events through an application process. There is a criteria against which events will be reviewed and approved and these are:
Functions which are support other events being held in the city and which are of demonstrable economic benefit to Belfast whether organised by the council or not.
Functions which demonstrably enhance the city’s image nationally or internationally as a desirable commercial, business or tourist destination.
Functions designed to celebrate or commemorate a notable achievement or significant anniversary (25, 50, 100 years) by an organisation or body with close links to the city or province.
Functions organised by recognised local community or voluntary sector groups for non-profit and non-political purposes.

City hall constructed from 1898 to 1906. A magical building with beautiful garden space and interior. Each night it lits up with different colours. During December it’s worth visiting the Christmas market.
A. K.
Wow, the Christmas market. The whole scenery is very nice and cozy. I can tell about Christmas markets as born in Germany ;-) illumination of the city hall in blue is very cool. The market itself I found is a nice mixture of products and food. What kept me away to buy any food products: the prices!!!!!: Unbelievable and mostly ridiculous high. A grilled "Bratwurst" for 7£, hello???? And not even fresh. I could just see, how many hours they spent on the grill. Eventually re-heated for a couple days.
T. D. h.
Nicely kept war memorial 👏 well done to those people who keep it up and clean
P. K.
Beautiful place in Belfast! You can enjoy here. Most of the shopping malls and restaurants are here . No doubt, almost everything you will get here.

Christmas Market exceeded my expectations. Fantastic range and full of atmosphere. A one way system would just have been good sense even without covid. Bit hard to get round as everyone wasn't in order or queuing properly for stalls.

Nice building design. A landmark of its area. But I just hope if they could put their national flag there.

Ancient city, huge old buildings, London-style taxi. Make sure to have Pounds as Euro is not accepted in all the places..

Great atmosphere totally enjoyed it

The building, which was designed by Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas in the Baroque Revival style, was built in Portland Stone at a cost of £369,000 and opened on 1 August 1906.[6] Local firms H&J Martin and WH Stephens were among the companies involved in the design and construction.[7]

Unfortunately we weren't able to go inside, but just looking from the outside, the place is gorgeous, and the gardens nearby were beautiful
R. M.
Free and open to the public during hours of operation. A small museum and plenty of artifacts to marvel over. City Hall is beautiful inside and out. Worth a visit if your short on time to explore, the building has a bit of everything including public washrooms and coffee stands.

Amazing, super helpful, really knowledgeable friendly people... Anything you want to know about Belfast this is the place to go. Such a BEAUTIFUL building set in absolutely stunning garden, full of interesting things.
The Hall itself has male and female public restrooms/toilets, and also facilitates for the disabled.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in Belfast.
D. R.
An impressive building, steeped in history. Visitors are free to wander inside and meander through a number of rooms containing various artefacts relating to Belfast's history. A worthwhile use of around an hours time if you needed an overview of the city. Centrally located, near to bars and restaurants, the building is also eye-catching at night when lit up.
R. P.
Grand place, the tour is recommmended. Otherwise you can just see the lobby.
C. M.
Great spot! Especially with the warmer days when it's open to the public. Lots of seating space available. I'd suggest a tour of the inside of the City Hall if you get a chance!

FANTASTIC informational tour and it was free, too. Beth was our tour guide and did a great job explaining a lot of history and backstory. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting or passing through. Tour took about 45 minutes. The building also had a great set of exhibitions about Belfast and a very nice cafe. All around, totally worth the time.
C. W.
Good heritage and beautiful building city hall. Lovely christmas tree every years. We missed no christmas markets this month. Hope next year markets will be opening. Most tourist take camera city hall outside

I would recommend that everyone visiting Belfast take a tour of this wonderful building. We visited as a group and had Karena as our tour guide, she was so enthusiastic, passionate and informative about the City Hall that we could have listened to her for hours. We also walked around the exhibition which was also great.
Thank you so much Karena.
S. R.
Nice place to have a walk around here. Very safe, clean, and calm. I spent hours walking alone around touristic area in Belfast. Safe and comfortable for tourist.
M. J.
What a great place. People really kind, the whole area there is so calm. It is very different to England, Wales or Scotland. I have visited the place once and I am not regretting it at all. I think everyone should visite it when going to Belfast, because if you don’t, you will miss a lot there.
K. M.

Beautiful building. Nice wee cafe, too. On a sunny day, the grounds are awash with people - always a great atmosphere. And if it's cold and miserable out? Go take a tour of City Hall. Definitely worthwhile.

One beautiful city hall in the centre of my home city.
T. S.
What a wonderful day in Belfast! Others went to shop etc but my brother and I took some photos of the hall itself and then had an emotional time looking at the war memorials and the Titanic memorial and the wonderful information about The Somme. We then watched the Olympics on the huge scree.
We spent most of time enjoying the mountains and forest and the sea but also thoroughly enjoyed the city experience.
N.I. is fab!
J. F.
Very nice relaxed family run guesthouse . Very nice people rooms are really big and very clean I would go back . A few minutes walk away from the botanical gardens and Queens University town 10 minutes walk.

The exterior is lovely displaying baroque architecture that really captures the feel of early 20th century. The grassy area outside makes for a lovely picnic spot and when I visited they had large tv screens broadcasting the Olympics. Inside, I went on the tour which was very informative and interesting, worth a look especially as it was free!
J. C.
A jewel in the Crown , just about sums up Belfast ( amazing)

A gorgeous Baroque Revival Style building in lovely Belfast. The Belfast City Hall shows the tremendous pride of the city, and is a very visible landmark. No visit to Belfast would be complete without at least stopping by and grabbing a selfie. The tour is quite nice too.

Belfast City Hall, symbolic centre of power in Belfast. Beautiful city and a beautiful people.

The first thing I did in Belfast was visit City Hall and take a guided tour. The gentleman giving the tour was so pleasant and interesting. And the inside of the building is quite beautiful. Make sure you plan to go on a guided tour of City Hall when you're in Belfast.

Belfast City Hall (Irish: Halla na Cathrach Bhéal Feirste; Ulster-Scots: Bilfawst Citie Haw) is the civic building of Belfast City Council located in Donegall Square, Belfast, Northern Ireland. It faces North and effectively divides the commercial and business areas of the city centre. I have visited a couple of time. The city has given me a warm welcome. Even though the city is crowded when we arrived we could able to visit lots of places nearby. Shops museums, restaurants and during my time of visit there was a festival going on in the City Hall premises I have bought a lots of souvenirs. Overall a must visit place.
S. T.
Love it here and love the historic element but also love there stew 😂
M. C.
It was fabulous to be out in one of my favourite Cities, very organised, each shop ie Debenhams, EE & Clarks were well prepared for the public. Great to be there with no fears at all. I'll be back there again very soon. With relatively no queues.

A must see when in Belfast. So much activity happens in or around this location...from the start of the main shopping area to the start of the Belfast city marathon. Nice grounds, great for seating areas as well. Large tv ( not sure why!) when shows day time TVs shows mostly. Can enter into the city hall, catch a tour or walk around yourself. Plenty to see from glass windows to old books around the formation of Belfast city. Toilets inside!

The architecture inside this building is second to none, I'd also recommend a tour of the City Hall and also get a cup of coffee inside the building!
Only disadvantage of the City Hall is that it is very hard to get parked, I'd recommend parking in one of the side streets nearby and walking to the City Hall.
