Reviews of Guildhall Theatre

Lovely small theatre used by the whole family for pantomimes, dances and musical events. The atmosphere within the theatre is great, pop in to see what is being offered throughout the year, they have some magical events. There are stalls and upper circle seating and lifts to get you to all floors. Prices are very reasonable compared with bigger venues. The staff are always helpful and friendly and the acting I have seen is really professional and not amateurish

Guildhall Theatre.
It's a lovely place, the street is well maintained. I didn't went inside the Theatre, got to know that it's temporarily closed, Maybe COVID effect. Hope it comes back. The Good part is that passing by itself the beauty of this building tempts you get some nice clicks. Thanx.

Lovely venue but currently closed due to ongoing and much needed essential maintenance.

A lot of good shows you can see here

Visited here for the first time to see Talon in concert. The venue is quite small in relation to other places we have visited. But it's a great place to see bands "up close and personal'. Quite a relaxed atmosphere and a decent bar Which isn't too expensive. Only one complaint it's not very well signposted despite being in the centre of Derby.

We did the science walking tour that starts at the tourist information centre near here. Highly recommend. Our tour guides were qwerky but brilliant! Never knew Derby had such a scientific history. Great for all ages, hands on activities for kids and my 90 year old father enjoyed it too!

I took my 2 grandchildren aged 3 & 4 to see The Dinosaur who came for Christmas. The whole experience was brilliant from the welcome at the doors, the fact there were seat boosters for little ones, the performance itself was magical and the staff who asked if we enjoyed it.

First trip to the Guildhall Theatre this week. The building is old but provides a nice size venue for comedy or music performances. Great leg room in the seats which is usually my main annoyance of more modern venues (being 6ft3). The only issue is the due to the tilt of the seats the entire row has to exit the row in order for anyone to get out. If this is in the middle of a comedy set then it can cause so funny moment but after a while just becomes an annoyance and distracts from the performer.

A beautiful old theatre with amazing arched plaster ceiling in the auditorium. Very varied acts and performances from touring rep. to bands and solo artists, arts and folk festivals and amateur dramatic societies use it throughout the year. As is so often the case with theatres, the bar prices are about £1/pint more than anywhere else in Derby, which is a shame. Otherwise a great little venue and worth having a look.

A visit to the Guildhall Theatre has become somewhat of a family tradition, we have been for around the past 6 Christmas's to watch the Babbling Vagabonds' shows which have been great whilst the children have been small. We have also recently been to see the Odd Socks Theatre Groups version of the Wizard of Oz.
The productions that we have seen are not 'big shows' they are nothing like the West End shows but they are small, personal, intimate, funny and unpolished and fit perfectly to the location.
The Guildhall is perhaps a little tired but having been visiting here for so long, we have come to love it's quirks, the staff are very friendly (of which there are many!) The bar is small and a little shabby but you can get a drink before the show and a packet of crisps, there's also a little coffee counter where you can buy refreshments.
In my experience a night at the Guildhall is all about family fun without the stereotypical formalities of a 'night at the theatre'.
We go time and time again!

Compact little theatre which makes for an intimate experience. We went to see Derby Shakespeare's production of the Tempest which was very good. Sitting right at the front made us feel part of the performance. There is a small bar for interval drinks.

Lovely little theatre in the heart of Derby, the staff were very welcoming and the performance we saw was very good, the seats on the balcony were a bit cramped, but I wouldn't hesitate in going back to see another performance that took my fancy. The INTU car park offers cheap parking after 5pm for just 2 quid for the evening.

Great place for a performance. This is easily our favourite place for an intimate show. Shows for toddler-age are especially good. Performances have all been very professional

Lovely classical theatre showing intimate performances and accomodating a broad range of productions. Generally good value for money and very attentive staff.

Relaxing and intimate venue with a wide choice of shows throughout the year. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only slight downfall is the size of the bar which is very small.

Saw a good show there - but the place is shabby and neglected in parts. The bar has peeling wallpaper. The seats in the auditorium are ancient.

I love this old theatre hope it never changes.neccessary changes like the lift are very welcome but do not spoil the building. Staff are very helpful and welcoming.

Great for folk music gigs, but you will freeze to death while listening as the original 15th century building has zero insulation.
