Double Dead Tour was superb and despite it being Friday 13th (which didn't even occur to me when I booked it) we safely navigated our way around the vaults and the Kirk yard to an unharmed exit 😆 Definitely worth doing the night tour, so glad I swapped it from the Saturday afternoon. Brilliant, fabulous and highly educated guide Charlie definitely made the tour for us. Great knowledge and story skills. I would do this tour again. Can you see the Watcher in the pic? ☠️😱
E.
Heather was a brilliant host in creating a spooky atmosphere. Told us a great background of Edinburgh. Half of the tour was outdoors half indoors so try to book on a dry day.
Would give 5 stars but the majority if not all the lights in the vaults were broken and did not turn on... So some details of the vaults couldn't be seen.

Last night was my last one in Edinburgh on my “weekend escapade” and I had to do the City’s ghost tour, and no better choice than City of The dead Tours. This time the guide was Sara. Knowledge, funny, very welcoming & had a great time. Hadn’t felt eerie in any of the other tours I had done in the past, but this time looking back at the tall man’s vault whilst taking a picture my body all went on alert and my heart started pounding. Since I found there where still tickets for the graveyard tour (on the double dead) I went back again. This time the guide was Katie, a much darker tour, without lights except for her torch, which I found was amazing :) re-entering the vaults in a row this time I felt really weird, and in Jacks chamber my hairs stood up instantly, I kept following the cold spots all around the room when Katie was explaining. After that we went to the next chamber where things changed drastically. I felt light headed and weird with a numbness on my back and my body feeling spikes in temperature and hairs standing up once more. In total darkness i lost my sense of orientation whilst slowly walking around, I thought I heard a low humming noise (could have been a car… who knows) & a scratching noise on stone (could have been someone’s feet) what I do know that when the torch relit i was facing the wall; I thought I was with my back to it (hence my lost sense of orientation) and further away from the group than I really thought I had been when following the cold spots. In the Black Mausoleum I have a spot i Like to stand in where the guides voice is heard as iff from every direction. I was behind a girl and her partner and could feel something odd around the floor area and felt a cold eerie tingling all up my back. slowly but steadily my right knee started aching like hell as iff someone had kicked it (without feeling the kick that caused the pain) and had a bit of a slow walk back to the hostel with a certain degree of uncomfortableness. It’s still aching today.. and in bed had the weirdest of sensations as iff someone was on the bunk bed under me (moving in their sleep and getting in and out if bed)
and the room was all to myself. So yeah… next time I’m in Edinburgh I’m definitely booking again

Highly recommend this tour! Charlie was our guide, 15/4/2022. She was funny and full of facts. We would definitely do it again. My daughter lost a tenner from her jacket, but found it when she got home...in her shoe!! We discovered a scratch on my husbands back! We were hoping to find something but weren't convinced, we are now!
A. M. B.
Loved this tour more than I even thought I would. Our guide Charlie was so informative and open to questions. She is a great story teller and very welcoming .
I did not expect to experience anything in terms of Poltergeist activity and did not experience anything until I walked out of the last of the vault and felt my handbag being pulled from my hand and thrown on the floor by what I believe was a mischievous little ghost named Jack!
The Kirkland was just as interesting and almost peaceful in a strange way. Fortunately I escaped the black mausoleum without injury!

We had a fantastic tour with this group. Sarah was an amazing host with great knowledge. She kept everyone in the group entertained. Harrison was our bringer of light ( hope you have a wonderful wedding in Skye) and Ron was the captain rounding us up. Brilliant will book this tour again next time we’re in wonderful Edinburgh.
Thank you.

I've been on several Edinburgh walking tours (both historical and ghost-related) but the Double Dead one has easily been my favourite so far. Great tour of the Vaults as well as a look around an otherwise off limits portion of Greyfriars that I otherwise likely never would have known about. Our tour guide Charlie was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining throughout. Perfect blend of historical fact and paranormal embellishment. Was also kind enough to answer several followup questions after the tour. All around a fantastic evening.
H. K.
Loved the Double Dead tour! I had been looking forward to this tour for months leading up to our trip to Edinburgh and it didn't disappoint! Learned some of the more grim history of the city leading to all the ghost stories. My husband more or less humored me in participating on the tour since he was nervous it would be cheesy or exaggerated, but even he really enjoyed it - our guide was excellent such a great personality that really made the tour. Definitely worth it when visiting Edinburgh!
J. C.
We were on this tour on sat 5th Feb. Our guide Charlie Guy was amazing, very knowledgeable about this great city's history and a great ability to tell it in fun and engaging way. There were 3 in our party and we were all very impressed with all aspects of this evening, we felt other worldly entities while in the vaults and one of our group even aquired a strange injury on her hand, I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone brave enough to take it. Thank you to city of the dead tours and a special thank you to Charlie Guy for making this a night we will all remember for a very long time. We are wlready planning our return visit to this tour xxx

Beth’s double dead tour was super entertaining and cool! And also informative. She’s a great storyteller!
We visited a couple of vaults and a graveyard, including a mausoleum. We heard some ghost stories and also learned a bit about the history of Edinburgh. After the tour Beth also stuck around to show us a couple of graves that inspired Harry Potter names.
The tour was totally worth it and I completely recommend it. :)
P. J.
Very much enjoyed this tour! Even if you don't believe in the supernatural this tour is very informational about some of Edinburgh's dark history.
Our guide Beth was amazing! She made learning about the history of the vaults and graveyard very interesting and entertaining, and made sure everyone was safe along the tour. I highly recommend going on the City of the Dead tour if you're visiting Edinburgh!
A.
We were guided by Charlie who was absolutely captivating! It also happened to be the largest tour group of the year, but City of the Dead was still able to accommodate smoothly. We went on the double dead tour and it’s not for the faint hearted - great for those who really want an informal, scary but fun experience… You’ll be engrossed by the real accounts and horror stories - my partner said he smelt sulfur in one of the Southbridge vaults! Overall a great experience of the dark side of Edinburgh.
E. C.
We did the double dead tour last night and it was fantastic. Our guide, Charlie, was brilliant. Funny, knowledgeable and with excellent storytelling. The vaults were very interesting and my husband saw some activity in there.
Greyfriars Kirkyard was a beautiful location and we were lucky to have a clear starry night above us while Charlie told us about the good and bad people at rest there.
The tour was a great mix of history, fun and spooky goings on.
K. A.
Great tour with an informative guide named Beth
She was funny and personable, some people in the group disrespected spirts and she set them straight mad respect for that! Great true macabre history of the city
R. M.
Absolutely spellbinding. Quite possibly the most fun I’ve had in ages.
This is an absolute must do on a trip to Edinburgh. It simply could not have been better. Our guide (Grant) was by turns informative, philosophical and, at times, laugh out loud funny. The ghost tales were suitably haunting and the whole atmosphere just awesome.
I’m not a believer in ghosts, but there was definitely a spooky feel to the places we went. If anyone could convince me of the possibility of paranormal phenomenon, it was going to be Grant, with his understated, matter-of-fact recounting of his own experiences.
Grant’s talk in no way felt rehearsed but bounced off the comments and questions from the group. Nobody was safe from his witty parries and good-natured piss-taking and this brought the group together, creating camaraderie and a warm atmosphere.
At the end of the tour, Grant also generously took a few of us interested guests round to look at the various Harry Potter-related graves. He was a fountain of knowledge and fascinating anecdotes.
Many thanks to Grant for a great evening.
S. N.
Such a fun ghost tour! Our tour guide Gerry was amazing! He was so funny and informative. This tour was the highlight of our girls trip to Scotland! If you love spooky stuff (and a bit of history), you’ll definitely love this tour!
E. R.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Double Dead Tour tonight despite me feeling nervous at the start and wondering why on earth we had decided to book this adventure during our short break in Edinburgh! Charlie the tour guide was absolutely fantastic with the large group of 21 people and very friendly. Her knowledge, humour and ability to explain so much history in a short space of time was phenomenal. Exploring the South Bridge Vaults was very interesting and fortunately (for me) we did not experience any paranormal activity! We then moved on to the Greyfriars Graveyard to hear even more from Charlie about the history of the Covenanter's Prison. The tour lasted 2 hours and was worth every penny. A massive thanks to Charlie for leading such a great tour and this is one that we would definitely recommend if visiting Edinburgh. 10/10 👍
R. S.
This was a most enjoyable and entertaining tour. Our guide, Charlie, was very well informed and kept us all interested and engaged for the whole time. The history behind some familiar landmarks was expertly detailed, and the whole experience was great fun. Charlie is an excellent speaker, who really knows her stuff. Highly recommended!
J. P.
A very good and enjoyable tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and was a good laugh. Would have liked to have seen more of the vaults as this was the highlight for me. Well worth doing :)
L. W.
What a great tour. Our guide was Charlie. She was funny and very informative. Didn't get to see or feel anything on this tour but my partners did and his belt was undone in the vaults. I'm a bit of a skeptic as I work with the deceased and have never had any experiences but still loved the tour as I loved learning the history of the vaults and kirkyard
O. T.
Had an great time on the Double Dead tour, definitely my favourite of the Edinburgh history/ghost tours so far with a gorgeous exclusive section of the vaults. Charlie was an incredible guide both for storytelling and for being able to answer all our increasingly specific questions, a definite recommend
P.
Did the 'Double Dead tour' recently - Our guide was funny, friendly, and informative! It was definitely a great way to spend the evening and to see the lesser-spotted parts of the old town in Edinburgh. Would recommend! 😎
J. S.
Very interesting and informative tour, really got a unique insight into this sad and gruesome part of Edinburghs history. Definitely recommended to take the evening tour.
Finn was truly a skilled guide, we were really impressed by his knowledge and abilities with guidance and lecture. Big pluss for mighty and clear voice that you heard easily from wherever you were standing in the group. Thank you Finn for the great experience you gave us.
D. A.
I went on both the vaults tour and the graveyard tour.
Both guides were absolutely amazing, so knowledgeable and the touch of theatrics really helped set the mood and settle into the morbid nature of the history lessons.
Would definitely do these again, so glad I fit this into my trip to Edinburgh.
H. H.
Excellent first night in Edinburgh with City Of The Dead tours. Charlie was brilliant, perfect mix of spooky stories, history & humour! I would highly recommend this tour!
A. T.
We booked the double dead tour, and it was amazing. our guide Choogie was great, really fun and informative. Definitely spooky too. Great way to start our Edinburgh break!
C. F.
We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Beth last night. Beth was funny, engaging and a brilliant story teller, weaving a dark history of the city. Great evening, would recommend
E. B.
Great graveyard tour! Artemis’ stories were equal parts spooky and informational. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to learn about Edinburgh’s dark history.
D. G.
Had the opportunity of a fantastic tour this evening with Charley. It was full of fun facts, lots of humour and equally as informative. One of the best I’ve ever been on. Don’t miss the chance to book!
S. M.
We enjoyed it so much!! The guide did such an amazing job in the Double Tour! That guy deserves a raise. If you are looking for a scary and funny experience you need to do this one!
K. C.
Enjoyed very much. Good ghost tour and learned about some of the history of Edinburgh. Grant our guide was very good. Cant fault him. Highly recommend. Just wish we could of visited more of the vaults.
L. H.
If you want to learn about the history of the city and want to be creeped out at the same time, look no further!
Our guide Beth was an engaging storyteller who made the gory, dark parts of the history come to life, with just enough humor to make the goosebumps go away for a minute.
Whether you believe in ghosts, or not at all, you are going to enjoy this tour. And you are going to be spooked. Guaranteed.
K. M. Q.
The tour was great! Charlie, our guide, was very entertaining and had lots of great stories about the city. Seeing the graveyard and the vaults was fascinating and a fab experience overall. Thanks Charlie!
W. M.
We did the Underground Vaults tour and loved every minute of it.
It was fun and fascinating and even learned lots of interesting things about the history of the city as well as it's inhabitants and now spirits.
Sarah was a fantastic guide, would definitely recommend.
J. B.
The Double Dead tour was amazing. Lyall’s a great storyteller and we were thoroughly entertained. Would recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh as a must-do!
M. B.
One of my most unforgettable experiences ever! Our tour guide was brilliant. Lyle was an amazing story-teller and his jokes were perfectly timed and funny. Not to mention I got the confirmation I came for that ghosts are real. Got some scratches and bruises after the tour from old George. :D
K. W.
Had a brilliant experience with Lyle at the helm; Lyle was informative, funny and theatrical. We learned some Scottish history, heard some haunting tales and laughed a lot too. Brilliant experience!
C. T.
Great fun, you have to do a ghost tour at some point during your stay in Edinburgh! We did the double dead tour which includes the vaults under South Bridge and Greyfriars Kirkyard. Was intresting to learn about the history of the city and visit some places you can't otherwise see. Our guide Ian was very intresting to listen to and kept us laughing all the way through. No spooky encounters for us but still a fun evening 🙌
D. L.
Heather was an amazing guide - lovely and funny as hell. She did a great job of sharing history with a perfect touch of dark humour. Fun evening outing!
M. F.
A fantastic experience and definitely worth doing. Our tour guide grant was brilliant and he's such a great character filled with historical facts and wicked jokes. 10 out of 10
L. B.
Amazing tour delivered by a brilliant tour guide Beth. Her first time doing a double tour by herself and she smashed it! Would recommend City of the Dead tours to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

If you take a tour in Edinburgh this needs to be one. It's creepy and funny and some of the best story telling. I had the opportunity to go on two tours. The haunted graveyard (greyfriars kirkyard) and the underground vaults. If I had to choose, the Kirkyard wins hands down. You even get to visit a location that no other tour groups get to. Honestly, I love the dark, ghostly stuff and this delivers. Really a must do. **LGBTQ friendly**
T. A.
So my girlfriend and I went on 2 tours, the first one was the greyfriars kirkyard tour and our guide Gerry was fantastic, super enthusiastic about the subjects and also cracked some fantastic jokes. The second was the underground vaults and Heather was also great, super knowledgeable and good fun showing us around the vaults, well worth the money and a good hour and bits entertainment :D
E. P.
Thanks Charlie for a fantastic first night in Edinburgh! The tour was really interesting with a great mix of facts and humour. She even sent me more info on one particular subject I approached her about after the tour.
K. C.
Our tour was fantastic and so was our tour guide Charlie. Charlie was so knowledgeable and detailed with everything she told us and was very funny and entertaining too! Thank you again Charlie 😊
B. K.
Great tour, some spooky bits and also a good laugh.
Our guide Ian was very knowledgeable, professional and good fun. Will be doing it again.
M. R.
Had a really great time on this tour. Not an over the top costume filled tour which was a breath of fresh air. Still spooky in its own right. Very much enjoyed it. Would highly recommend this tour and I would definitely do it again !
Our guide Grant was spectacular and added the right touch of creepy at just the right moments.
My eyes wouldn't stop watering the entire next day and became very sore on the edges... Maybe it was a side effect from the ghosts in the vaults 🤔😏.
B. A. V. K. E. t. 3.
Love love love going on these tours especially traipsing through the streets of Edinburgh at night to go and visit the most haunted location in Britain where if you're lucky or unlucky enough you'll leave with a visible reminder of where you've been
M. T.
I thought the tour itself was excellent, and our guide Finn was very good.
What I was quite disappointed in was that we only saw three vaults - I was expecting much more than that! Overall very enjoyable and a great way to end our stay in Edinburgh. Would have been 5 stars if not for what I mentioned above.
S. M.
We arranged a private tour with city of the dead tours for the double dead tour..... well it didn't disappoint and that was down to our guide Jamie . What can I say he had the group gripped from the moment he started talking, with a mixture of laughs and the trail.through history. Had us all on the edge wanting to hear more ..the vaults itself was fantastic and jamie had everyone hanging on his every word we then moved to the infamous greyfriars kirkyard and the covenanters prison this is when things started getting interesting the atmosphere completely changed after walking through those gates it started to feel very oppressive and when entering the Black mausoleum wow.... I honestly don't think we could have had a better guide he made the tour what it was and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it so thanks again Jamie your a diamond 100% will be back
J.
An amazing tour, we have been doing these for the past 15 years and Grant is by far the best guide we have ever had. He was professional, informative and absolutely hilarious - A true legend!
E. B. L. d. l. C.
Tour guide Rebecca was a marble of a guide - well spoken, inspired, and funny. While the sights were initially interesting, it felt underwhelming to have the name “Underground City” - more like a few dark vaults. Appreciated the history and folklore, learnt a lot.
S. 1.
What an awesome time...My Girlfriend and I decided to take the Double Dead tour and we were not disappointed. Our tour guide Grant was amazing! Starts in the vaults and finishes with a trip to Greyfriars Kirkyard, including the old prison...which is exclusive to this company. Grant even took the time to show us a mini tour of the graves that inspired JK Rowling when writing Harry Potter! (Potter, Moody, Riddell etc..).
You defo get your moneys worth here. Grant hit the nail on the head with the vibe and jokes. You can tell that he has been around people from Cork in Ireland..he has that charm about him...almost like a friendly Tom Waites!
All in all, we can't recommend this enough...from start to finish we were captivated. The History, the scares...brilliant.
To Grant and the team, all the best from Andie (the canary) and Sean from the Glen. Thanks a million!
A. O.
We did the Double Dead tour last night with Grant the tour guide. The tour was very informative and interesting, and Grant added jokes at the right points to keep everyone on their toes and make the experience really fun and spooky! Highly recommend :)
C. R.
We went on the Double Dead tour and our guide was Grant. We had an excellent time on this tour - first going to the South Bridge Vaults, and then on to Greyfriars Kirkyard to the Covenanters Prison. Grant did an absolute beast of a job being spooky, informative and funny, remaining charismatic the entire time. I will also say that I personally got very overwhelmed in the Vaults towards the end, I felt freezing cold but hot in the face and had a tight chest but Grant was very kind and understanding whilst escorting me out of the vaults before anyone else and even agreed that he felt similar in being both hot and cold! This was a delightful tour with something for everyone and did a great job of entertaining and frightening me in equal measures. Would highly recommend to anyone even remotely interested in the paranormal or just sightseeing the rarer sights of Edinburgh. Thank you Grant once again for being an absolute angel and truly making the tour an unforgettable experience.
L. B.
Fabulous tour. Our guide, Grant, was the perfect story teller, he was fascinating to listen to. The tour was informative and fun and would recommend every do it as long as you aren't scared of the dark 🤪
M. T.
Took the double dead tour last Wednesday (13th october) absolutely brilliant. Would hight recommend. Our guide was friendly and great fun. Was informative aswell. Defo do the other tours when we visit again. Unfortunately there was no poltergeist activity on our visit so still yet to be a believer
D. H.
Highlight of my visit to Edinburgh. It was honestly amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it great value for money. You get to explore parts of Edinburgh which is closed to the public giving you access to the dark history of the city.
Grant was our tour guide and he certainly made it worth while. Crazy guy but I don't think it would have been as enjoyable if he wasn't there. We walked past another group and it sounded more like a lecture rather than a fun experience.
If I ever come back to Edinburgh, I will certainly be booking again.
L. J.
This was AMAZING!!
Grant is a fantastic host and gave us an excellent, scary , knowledgeable and fun experience- cannot recommend him or tours enough - if you are in the city and don’t mind getting scared witless go for it ! We will be back for sure - spooky pictures came out on camera too !
L. h.
Heather was amazing, learnt loads and such a good actor! Made it even more fun, look at and understand Edinburgh so much better now. Did the vaults, halfish outside and halfish underground, shame more of it wasn't in vaults but still great. Would of done other tour but didn't have time, loved it
m. H.
Decent tour, informative. Grant did a great job of being creepy and knowing who to pick on to get the best reaction. No complaints except thinking the Mrs was a my chemical romance fan 😉😆
A. H. (.
Grant led us on a really fantastic tour of Edinburghs vaults and the greyfriars graveyard. Spooky in parts with the right amount of history, ghost tales and a bit of a history lesson. Well recommended!
B. E.
Brilliant tour, I'm afraid I don't remember exactly what the guides name was (he said it was Italian) but he was amazing, engaging, very funny and able to put up with my friends stupid comments. You go through one of the bigger sections of the vaults in comparison to some of the other underground tours. I couldn't praise the guide enough
E. H.
Myself and a few colleagues went in this tour last night. We had heard of the tour years ago but had only just plucked up the courage to go! Our tour guide Katie was brilliant, entertaining, informative and just the right amount of scary. We are residents of Edinburgh and loved that we got to see parts of the city we had never seen before. We did the double dead tour. The vaults were fascinating, stunning and creepy, and the graveyard and prison was atmospheric and equally as fascinating. Katie is a brilliant storyteller, and kept her audience enthralled. It was fantastic that I had got to go into part of the graveyard I had never been in since I was a child, and loved seeing it in such a different atmosphere than in the daytime. So glad I finally went in the tour. Loved every minute and would go back time and time again!
A. W.
Another fantastic tour with city of the dead tours
We did the double dead tour with Rebecca, what a great guide, really interesting and she has a great sense of humour which keeps everyone engaged
Tour of the vaults and then around greyfriars graveyard
Will definitely do it again
N. B.
I live in Edinburgh and a visiting friend was interested in a tour that would reveal a little more about the city's history and legends. Chose the Haunted Graveyard tour as I'd never been in the Covenanters Prison before. Our guide was very relaxed and conversational - not reading from a rigid script - which made for a more engaging experience. Very enjoyable. Glad to recommend.
B. R.
We recently booked a private Double Dead Tour with John as our guide and he was absolutely fantastic! Our very large party had all come from the US for my wedding in Edinburgh, and from start to finish (booking/email communications through the actual tour) our experience was excellent. Charlotte was so kind in accommodating our group, even setting us up with the perfect guide who had a personal connection to our wedding. All her communications were prompt, professional, and friendly, leading up to the actual tour which was brilliant! John was enthralling and everyone loved him, many of our wedding guests saying it was their favorite thing they did in Edinburgh. Go on this tour- you won’t be disappointed! Thanks so much for everything Charlotte and John!
K. G.
The tour was well worth the time and money. There was a fair bit of history and quirky information provided throughout the tour. Our guide was very personable, entertaining and informative. Having a bit of fun while exploring the dark history of Edinburgh and allowing our imaginations to wander while listening quietly to the grim history surrounding us as we ventured through a portion of old town was an experience we won't soon forget. You get a peek into the paranormal aspects surrounding the locations visited and a dash of humor to accompany them creating a light but anticipatory atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
The negative reviews seem more than unwarranted in my opinion. It was one of our favorite guided tours thus far!
R. P.
Went on this tour last night. It was a fab way of seeing a different side to Edinburgh. The tour guide was amazing and straight from the start gave you a spooky feeling in just meeting him. Very knowledgeable and really good at engaging everyone throughout the tour. I felt it definatly gave you an insite into Edinburghs more gruesome past. The locating were awesome and despite the cold weather had a really good time. I would definatly recommend this tour to anyone. We did the double dead tour and it was well worth the money. The guide was the mother J not Jerry thsts all i can remember of his name but he was very good giving the right amount of spooky and comedy element to the tour
B. M.
Brilliant experience. Tour guide Grant was wickedly funny, and plenty of gristly and fun facts about Edinburgh. Covenanter's Prison was chilling and a unique experience.
10/10 would recommend to anyone visiting this wonderful city.
L. M.
Our experience was amazing! Grant gave us the best tour! Made it scary, funny and entertaining. Would definitely recommend
J. C.
The best tour company in Edinburgh for underground vault tours and the only vompany with the access to the locked Covenanters prison within Greyfriars Kirkyard.
H. B.
Absolutely fantastic experience! Tour was led by Gerry with a 'G' who was informative, funny and compelling! He was knowledgable and passionate about his subject and we were totally rapt from the start. We saw bits of the city we would never have got to see and felt like we had an insight into Edinburgh's history that we would not have otherwise have had. If you want jump scares then it's not the tour for you but if you want history with a supernatural flavour then book yourself a tour! By far the highlight of our trip!
S. M.
We've done a number of ghost tours in the city but this has definitely been the best one. Our tour guide Iain, was fantastic and a great laugh. We learned a lot and walked a lot.
Our mission was to give our son a fun and scary tour and Iain didn't disappoint, got to love that 12 year old boy squeak when they get a fright...4 times! He thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next tour.
We would highly recommend it, great job Iain thanks for a brilliant night, from Broxburn Sarah, One thumb only Alex and Leak (Kael)
A. T.
This tour was absolutely superb! The ticket price was really good, especially being at student discounted price (£9!). I wasn't really sure what to expect on this tour but honestly one of the best experiences I had in Edinburgh! David was our tour guide and he really made the tour -he had amazing enthusiasm. There was a good balance between spooky stories and the history of Edinburgh. It was an amazing way to end mine and my boyfriends trip to the city!
A. P.
Guide (Rebecca) was really good, but the tour was a little disappointing. Not enough vaults to visit, and the prison was very short and not particularly scary.
C. O.
Just got back from a fantastic tour through the vaults with guide Amelia. She was clearly very knowledgeable about the history of the city and vaults, and a great story teller. If you enjoy history (especially slightly morbid history) you will love this tour. The vaults are extremely cool, even if they don’t necessarily creep you out. Amazing to imagine what life must have been like down there.
C. G.
Myself and a group of friends went on the Haunted Graveyard Tour on Thursday night and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide was Gerry and he was brilliant, a fantastic storyteller and very funny!
Interesting stories, great laughs and the perfect amount of spookiness, highly recommend! 👏🏼
C. R.
Did the Double Dead tour... Favourite night out in Edinburgh!
From the tour guides (of who I met two) who are delightfully twisted and have a very clear passion for what they do..
...to the historically interesting locations, this tour was AMAZING.
I must confess we did doubt whether we would spend the money on it but I am so glad we did!
Kathy (hope I spelled that right) is an amazing tour guide who knows how to set a mood. The stories, some of which you might THINK you know, are brought to life. What I loved most was not knowing exactly what to expect so I will not give away the details of the tour...you'll just have to see for yourself :)
People who are paranormally sensitive: I really recommend the Double Dead tour, you'll find some interesting things.
J. C.
I went on the ghost tour today (into the Edinburgh vaults) lead by our guide Joshua. He was incredibly funny and made everyone feel comfortable and included. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
B. T.
Went on this tour with my brother, sister and her fiancé. I found it to be a brilliant experience; from the get go our tour guide, Katie, set the atmosphere with how she greeted us all and described things. We had a great walk and the information given kept us all interested the entire time, and there was enough humour that it never got dull! That said, the humour didn't ruin the more tense parts of the tour as our guide built up to the moments very well. The locations were extremely interesting and the stories behind them even more so. At the end of the tour Katie offered recommendations to any pubs and locations we might wish to visit to lighten the mood back up and she stayed around to answer any questions we had related to the tour.
Great locations, stories and staff members. All in all, great fun! I would definitely go again!
J. K.
Went for the Graveyard tour with our wonderful guide David whose sense of humour really made the tour. He was a natural, very informative and the stories he told weren't overly dramatic or fake. My brother and I enjoyed it very much.
We also went on the Underground vault tour with Oscar, who was very entertaining as well! Would highly recommend the tours from this company!!
A. M.
Absolutely amazing. Went on Halloween for that extra spooky feel and was not disappointed. Our guide Gerry (with a G not a J) was very good and drawing you in with the historics. The things he told us about Edinburgh and the people of Edinburgh back years and years ago it was amazing I thoroughly enjoyed it cant praise this tour enough. Will be recommending this to all I know. Great job guys!!
D. S.
Pretty good, the tour guide was obviously very well versed in Edinburgh's social history and hearing historically accurate descriptions of the vaults and Covenenter's Prison as well as their sociopolitical histories was the most interesting aspect for me. The ghost stories were an added bonus. Sadly some drunken tramps interrupted the tour taking the creep factor down a notch, but the tour guide dealt with the trouble in a professional manner and carried on.

Was so much fun. The guide, Fred, mixed the perfect amount of historical facts with mysterious theory and spooky speculations, it’s was just plain fun. We ended up with a smaller group than is normally allowed but because we weren’t going to be there the next day he ran the tour for us with only 3. I personally feel that it added a bit of a spooky feel when it was just my husband, myself, the guide and one other guest in the vaults in the dark discussing the horrors that had happened there and the potential paranormal stuff. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a fun night with clever entertainment.

Great tour with a trill. Did the double dead tour at night and even my partner enjoy it. Highly friendly staff and I had superb time!

A brief visit to Edinburgh which happened to also be the start of The Fringe. This tour runs all year round and was something not to be missed. Jerry with G was our guide and he was amazing. His production was very informative and entertaining! We had the dress rehearsal of the military tattoo and he kept composed! I would recommend to all visiting! Very good and a must see.
M.
Did two tours ,one in day with kids and then double tour at night on my own , whist both tours were amazing , daytime tour guide (joshua or Ian sorry I’m hopeless with names but chap with psychology degree )got my vote for the best , much more informative in the vaults and didn’t rush ..
Loved the cemetery in the dark .
Fantastic tours and well worth the money....

This was a highlight of my trip to Edinburgh in Jan 2019 and will undoubtedly become a tour I take each time I visit the city in future. The Guide was thoroughly well-prepared and executed excellent tellings of the history and stories behind everything we saw and did.
Yes, there is hype and yes, you may be a strong skeptic for example, but even if not for "Paranormal interest" reasons, but from an historical and truly educational experience - this company and their tours are not to be missed.
J. R.
Fantastic tour this evening conducted by lyle and would certainly consider it again in the future

Not a fan of horror stories and ghost hunts, but I love my friend who loves these. I pleasantly found myself enjoying it because it far more interesting than a cheap thrill scare. Seeing the vaults was interesting. Having Amelie as our guide was a deal breaker -- such an amaaazing story teller!! Amelie was very organized in building up her story and was so effective in letting us imagine how life was before in the vaults. Very clear speech.
S. B.
My best friend and I went on the double dead tour. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. It was honestly a great experience until there was a dude with a mask on who jumped out at us at the very end and we all screamed. It was planned. That jump scare cheapened the entire tour for me personally and left me with a sour taste in my mouth afterwards. It made me feel like everything our guide said wasn't true because he promised us at the beginning there wouldn't be anything like that. Kind of ruined the whole experience for me.
E. B.
The City of the Dead Tours do not disappoint! I recently went on my 5th 'Double Dead' tour and have been absolutely delighted and impressed with the quality of the tour, the stories, and the sights every time. Each tour guide brings a new perspective to the tour which adds variety. 100% recommend - one of the best tours in Edinburgh!
S. N.
Just finished the 8pm city of the dead tour of the vaults! David, our tour guide was very informative, very good humour and honesty of the history within the vaults. The build up was undeniably anxiety provoking and my heart was racing throughout... I was pushed to my limits on this tour- the 'not knowing' what's coming next and the lack of the usual amateur dramatics was a huge positive. Very real, raw and came away not being able to stop talking about it. Thank you David :-)
C. P.
Really good, found the graveyard the most interesting whilst visiting one of the tombs. Our guide (Gerry with a G) was an amazing story teller and made the tour very interesting. Definetely kept everyone's attention with his quirky jokes and interesting facts.
Unfortunately, there was a group of drunken hooligans that disturbed the tour but again, Gerry handled this very well and was soon continuing as before.
Fun, scary and keeps you on your toes.
Recommended if you're interested in the creepy tales of the McKenzie Poltergeist.
M. B.
Amazing tour, great night. We thoroughly enjoyed the 80 minute guided tour through Gray Friar's graveyard with quite a character regaling stories about Edinburghs murky history. Highly recommended for entertainment value.
A. L.
We had a 8pm tour on the Vaults and Prisons. Katie, our guide, was brilliant, with a lovely Scottish humor, informative and scary enough to let us enjoy the creepy stories of these fascinating historic places.
Definitely recommended!
L. C.
My husband and I absolutely loved the experience, the tour was humorous, entertaining and very educational. Was it scary? Definitely! The double dead tour is so exciting I absolutely loved it. We had an exciting experience and would love to do it again.
S.
This tour was so much fun! I expected a tour like this to be super cheesy, but our guide was hilarious and didn't overly fan the superstition flames like some haunted tours like to, but rather told us stories and accounts with a "take it with a grain of salt" tone, which I greatly appreciate. We we did the double dead tour and learned a lot of history about the city, the vaults and greyfriars, and got to go into the locations. My only negative is I wish we could have explored the vaults more, but we got to do a lot for our time!
A. H.
Very much enjoyed this tour. Did the tour of Greyfriar's Kirkyard, as it was on special offer that night, so paid only £9 for two people. Would definitely recommend to those who enjoy a bit of a spook and are interested in history, as it includes plenty of entertaining anecdotes about Edinburgh's past. Our tour guide was full of enthusiasm and was happy to share stories with us even after the tour had finished.
t. t.
Went there with my girlfriend on our last visit to Edinburgh. Our guide was great and created a good atmosphere. Unfortunately we didn't had a chance to meet with any of the vaults tenants... it wasn't very scary :(...
It was nice to learn a bit about the history of the "underground city" though, and after coming back home we decided to learn more about this place...
If you haven't see the vaults and you like a to get scared, you should give it a try...
S. F.
Interesting tour that showed a different side of Edinburgh with access to some unique locations. Our tour guide, Gerry, was informative and entertaining. More historical than scary. We had an issue with our booking and they were very helpful, quick to respond and fixed it straight away.
J. L.
A brilliant 'Double Dead' tour experience with Lyle! The perfect balance of scariness, comedy and historical storytelling. Highly recommended!
H. L.
Just wanted to say thanks for the great experience on the tour Wednesday night.
Grant was our guide, he was excellent, very funny and informative definitely would recommend never a dull moment on his tour. So worth every penny, my sister and I throughly enjoyed ourselves
Keep up the good entertainment Grant
H. B.
I was looking for a tour that focused on hauntings rather than just the standard historical/torture walks and found the City of the Dead Tours!
I decided to go to the vaults and the Covenanter’s Prison (The Double Dead tour) - a great idea as both places looked creepy and this way I got to see both!
Our tour guide, Dave, was brilliant! He gave us a brief overview of where we were going and what we’d be doing, and throughout the tour provided a great mix of historical context and jokes (which were a lighthearted relief form some of the stories!).
In the vaults and Covenanters prison he told some examples of experiences people had had on the tours, which got audible shudders from the group and added to atmosphere.
I’d highly recommend this tour! Next time I’m in Edinburgh I’d go again, I think each experience would be different, especially with the uniqueness of the locations other tours don’t cover.
S. W.
Didn't really know what to expect, the Tour itself proved as an unecpectedly positive surprise. The guide knew loads about the history of the visited places and managed to entertain and inform at the same time, mixed with an amazing sense of humor. But, honestly, not recommended for people who are only the least bit of claustrophobic or scared of the dark.
L. M.
Gerry (with a 'G') was an awesome tour guide. Perfectly blended history and horror with well placed humor. Excellent guide with extensive knowledge of the history, and not afraid to point on errors and myths of the past with facts! Both tours (underground and the graveyard) were exciting, but the Kirkyard tour gave us a good fright. Definitely recommend!
S. V.
Awesome tour! My wife booked this for our June trip and it could not have been more fun. Our guide Iain was extremely entertaining and had a vast knowledge of Scottish history. No gimics and no special effects. I would highly recommend the double tour at 10pm. Have fun in 19.
L. C.
Well worth the the time and money spent! My mother and I did the 9:00 tour through Greyfriars Kirkyard and it was so interesting! Gerri with a G was our tour guide and I was pleasantly surprised at his knowledge of the areas history. Had a scare at one point during the tour (I won’t spoil it) but being a history lover I was highly entertained by his storytelling and he truly is an artist in his abilities.

It was Sunday August 19th at 8pm in Edinburgh. It was my wife, 2 best friends and I first night in the city. My wife loves haunted tours and we have gone to plenty through out the United States and are experts when it comes to haunted tours. We rate this tour as the best haunted tour that we ever been on! The BEST! Our guide Rebecca was warm, inviting, friendly, and cheerful. She had a great speaking voice and had lots of information about the locations you travel through. She could really set the scene of the 1600s and 1700s. She was very spooky when we entered the south gate bridge undergrounds and got my wife to scream Twice in legitimate fear. It was great! There was a teenager in the group who was terrified and when it got really dark he would turn on his phone light which quickly his mother told him to turn it off. It was really funny to watch. The tour was successful in scaring me and the whole group which in my opinion is the point. Top notch and I give all the credit to Rebecca and her employer for hiring her. Thanks for the great start to my wife, 2 best friends and I's greatest vacation! PS you definitely can feel the ghosts but I did not see them.
R. H.
Me and my partner had a tour with Grant around the graveyards. Was very entertaining!
Throughly enjoyed it and would definitely do again!
M.
Brilliant tour with great facts :) well worth the money & time!
M. G.
Just finished our Haunted Graveyard Tour!
Gerry was incredibly well informed and entertaining. He's not about cheap scares and hokey nonsense. He teaches a lot about the history of Greyfriars Kirkyard and entertains with a flourish while doing it. I learned more about the history of Edinburgh in 90 minutes than I had in a week walking around the city. (Relevant to the tour of course)
This page should have 5 stars across the board but you can't please everyone unfortunately.
Please keep this tour going for the future! My wife and I will absolutely be back to do this again!
Â. F.
It was really a great tour, even thought it was freezing cold that night.
I thought it would be more scary in the way that would have people dressed in costumes to jump and scream at you, but it turned out that the really spooky bits came from all the stories they told.
Those stories were historically accurate and gave more depth to it than any other fictional stories would have.
The tour around the city is very interesting and well blended with all those amazing stories.
G. S.
After being undecided whether to do a free ghost walk that was available or to pay for one I can definitely say that this was worth every penny! We went on the Graveyard tour with Gerry and he was a fantastic storyteller, full of character! He really knew his history of the city and the spookiness just built at the tour went on! We left feeling scared and entertained! We would highly recommend this tour, it is a must if visiting Edinburgh!
Ps. My boyfriend got so scared he accidentally punched the guy next to him! (If your reading this he apologises)
K.
Absolutely loved it! Ian was class as the tour guide. His knowledge of the murky macabre world of medieval Edinburgh and it's ghostly sites was fantastic....and as for that laugh :-) Will defo go again in a few years time and bring along my kids.
A. S.
Absolutely brilliant! Grant our guide really set us up for an atmospheric evening of shocks and screams finishing in a graveyard 10 minutes before midnight really gave it that final touch my wife julie especially enjoyed one aspect of the tour which she shared with the whole of Edinburgh!
D. H.
Did the Double Dead tour with Katie. She's an awesome guide and really loves her job and the city she lives in. The historical facts were very interesting and the athmosphere at night fit the stories told. Greyfriar's was very special. Highly recommended but not for the faint hearted. For some folks the tour was way too spooky ;)
M. B.
Did the vaults tour in the afternoon. Lasted just over an hour. Tour guide was funny and had plenty of knowledge. Took us into the vaults and talked to us about them and some of the things that dwell inside! I didn't see any ghosts for myself though.
I. H.
Just went on the underground tour. I've been on quite a few ghost tours and this one was definitely one of the best. It was really interesting too. During the tour (before we were told anything) I started to feel very sick and felt faint. Keep in mind I've been on many other tours and never felt sick or worried. This tour was different. I honestly wanted to get out of the chambers as fast as I could. I felt like something was pressing its hand to my ear pulling my jacket. I was shaking so much by the end. It was so good but I was so scared by the end I don't know if I will do it again. However, I would highly recommend it. Such a good tour!
R. V.
We did the double dead tour today. Our guide Gerry was awesome! Learned a lot of neat things, had a few good spooky experiences, and got some great Scottish humor along the way! Special thanks to him for making it a great experience!
J. H.
Amazing! My friend and I went for a spooky Friday night before Halloween and it was everything we could have asked for. Great history lessons, amazing stories, and the best story telling I have ever had. Especially for the price. We had Aliza (spelling??) And she was the best!!! Definitely will go again 😁
D. H.
We really enjoyed the double dead tour, our guide was great and it was neat to see the vaults and the cemetery. Just wish the guide had slowed down a little, he walked very quickly and we had a hard time catching up on some of those steep streets.
V. M.
we did the double dead tour last night at 10pm, we are still giggling at the relocation of it now, the tour guide john (possibly) was hilarious and captivating, we are not sure the tour would have been the same without him from the second we arrived he was in character! the tour was crammed with history which i adore! although it wasn't overly spooky ( some inconsiderate was having a wedding, its not spooky when you are hearing cheesy pop!) it is most definitely worth it! there are a few rival companies fighting for your custom on the royal mile but these guys don't have too, why? because they are the best!
s.
Atmosphere was spooky, guide was impressive and the tour was creepy! I've never liked history much but this was really interesting and I learned a lot I didn't know. Was surprised by how much I enjoyed the whole thing. Came on with a small group and employer for work credit and really glad I did.
A. B.
The tour guide had really good knowledge of the area and was extremely enthusiastic. He owned the role. We were taken down into the vaults for over an hour and he explained the history with some ghost story telling mixed in. I have been on a few tours and this is by far the scariest one.
E.
Great tour guide (David) who told the history of the city and its underground networks with real enthusiasm! Definitely knew his facts which were very interesting. If you're sceptical of ghosts or even a non-believer, the stories the guide tells plants that seed of doubt in your mind - just enough for you to be scared but still enjoy exploring the underground tunnels.
C. W.
Gerry (with a G) was simply wonderful. His storytelling and showman skills are unmissable. If you want an informative, captivating and passionate tour guide whist exploring a spooky cemetery look no further. Thanks for a great night :)
K. C.
The tour was decent and it provided access into areas otherwise not accessible to the public. However, our tour guide “Kev” was rude at times. For example, Kev just finished telling a story how a person on one of his previous tours was able to capture an incredible ghostly photo once the tunnel was cleared of the main tour group. A couple from Germany was attempting to take a picture once the tunnel was cleared and Kev yelled at them to get with the group. Also, I had a difficult time hearing one of Kev’s directives. When I asked for clarification, he provided a snarky and just an absolute rude response. If you go on the tour, I recommend not touring with Kev.
N. K.
Great double dead tour Tony was our guide (think that was his name) fantastic and friendly. Would recommend
D. A.
I have been dreaming of visiting Edinburgh and most importantly Greyfriar's kirkyard for 17 years. Thank you for making the experience wonderful and memorable! Our tour guide was fun and knowledgeable and I would reccomend this tour for anyone interested in the paranormal and/or all things spooky!
D. D.
Thank you Joshua for making our tour of the underground vaults a wonderful, thrilling and unforgettable experience!! :)
Highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh!
D. M.
I've done the Hanunted Graveyard tour twice now, and terrified myself both times, despite knowing how it goes. The tour guides are both knowledgeable and entertaining, with just the right level of macabre humour. I recommend going on this tour with a group of friends so you have someone to hang on to when it gets scary!
M. A.
In essence it was a tour of 3 cold and dark rooms in the South Vaults, but Amelia was a great story teller so we were left thoroughly entertained as she told her ghost stories and managed to spook us every so often. I can’t imagine it would have been anything worth exploring without her skills.
J. W.
My interests when visiting places and cities: history, macabre history, lost history, and being in the modern spot where history happened. For instance, while in Edinburgh, I made up my own self guided Porteous Riot tour.
With those interests in mind, City Of The Dead tours delivered. Our guide, Jerry Withagee, was knowledgeable and entertaining. I had a minute before the tour started to chat with Jerry Withagee about haunted places and I asked how it compared to The Winchester House, a slightly obscure location in California that most Americans don't know about. He didn't even flinch and went right into comparing the style and number of hauntings. Jerry Withagee's style and mannerisms were engaging, entertaining, and knowledgeable. There aren't really too many cheap thrills - no cheap plastic ghosts on fishing line, no tour guides in witches' cloaks & make-up. Just facts that are hard to come by (Jerry Withagee can explain why).
The Double Dead tour is about the same length of time as each tour individually so maybe you'd get more out of each separate tour or maybe the fast pace of the Double Dead won't give you a chance to get bored.
We did the late night Double Dead tour. I'm torn between recommending you avoid the Friday night tours or choose them above all else; Edinburgh has a very active bar/club scene and the sloshed patrons can be extra entertainment or a total distraction. Certainly nothing the tour company can control or avoid.
E. S.
Been on the double dead tour twice now. Last night our tour guide was Grant, talented man who captured everyone's attention. Been on a few tours in Edinburgh now and personally, city of the dead tours are by far the best!
R. G.
We had a great tour with Lyle, very informative and funny. Jamie was really helpful in changing our dates around for a tour when we couldn't make it at short notice. Thanks!
d. t.
we sought out this particular tour after reading the ghost that haunted itself, an excellent book that i picked up on a day trip to Edinburgh, after reading it we had to go back. we found it and booked it. We had a brilliant time, Gerry was our guide, he was soooo funny and entertaining, we didnt see any ghosts but we were quite relieved about that, we really enjoyed the trip, no complaints, thankyou Gerry you were great.
Donna and Den and John
C. B.
Took the Haunted Graveyard tour with Gerry and loved it! Very lively and entertaining guide with a lot of personality. Gave two people who are not easily spooked the chills! Quirky, fun, and highly recommended
J. B.
Our group was large but the atmosphere was still creepy. The guides work hard and are a credit to their employers (This is is the 3rd tour I've been on and I always enjoy the history, the fun and the supernatural aspect.
B. C.
Most fun experience during my trip in Edinburgh by far, also learned a lot about the city’s (dark) history. Our guide is a great storyteller, thank you Heather!
S. R.
Amazing! Could note rave more about this tour. If you're in Edinburgh and wanting to do a ghost tour then you can't go past these guys. We did the Double Dead tour as we only had one night and it was brilliant.
L. D.
Absolutely brilliant ghost walk. Easy booking, great guide, very knowledgeable and a fun must do when in Edinburgh. Thanks to Jamie for sorting my online booking. Go do it!
T. O.
Before I begin, I have rated the facilities poor, but with good intentions. What ghost tour would survive a clean cut and polished environment .. This is a ghost tour, hosted by Gerry and co taking you through the underground city plus the home of the Dracula origins tale. Gerry will keep you captivated with his intriguing stories, indepth knowledge of local history and his advice on how to get around the hilly surrounds of Old Toon !!
j. m.
Fascinating, interesting, spooky, entertaining, intellectual and mesmerising.......and that's just a few words to describe our fab tour guide Fred!! The double dead tour was terrifying, like a rollercoaster; I loved it and hated it at the same time ♡ Would highly recommend this tour to anyone wearing their BIG STRONG BLOOMERS.......trust me, turn off Love Island and go and attempt this spookfest.....you won't be dissappointed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
S. F.
Went on the graveyard tour and enjoyed it. Greyfriars Kirkyard is very creepy at night! Guide was good and we learned a lot about the not so pleasant history of Edinburgh.
V. W.
Great evening and our tour guide was Grant. Fantastic history facts and plenty of drama. Great evening and money well spent!
R. M.
So this was my first ever ghost tour in Edinburgh. I and a friend opted to take the option to explore both Greyfriars Kirkyard and the underground in the Cowgate. Personally I'm not much of a believer in the Paranormal but the combination of a little bit of humor, old Edinburgh history and some spooky anecdotes kept the crowd entertained. I certainly think you are far more likely to learn and remember about Edinburgh's criminal past by taking a tour like this than you would simply reading out of a textbook. Be prepared for Edinburgh's weather though - During the winter wrap up warm and consider a waterproof jacket in case the heavens open as you'll be outdoors for most of the walk. Great fun and the potential for some real scares if you're easily spooked!
T. H.
Recommend this to anyone visiting Edinburgh, definitely do the double tour the vaults are fantastic but the graveyard which we visited on our own in the day was a cracking end to the tour, tour guide Dave gave some great facts with a witty sense of humour which made the tour.
E. B.
It was cold but really interesting! The tour guide Gerry was captivating in his performance and told some really interesting stories about the history of Edinburgh 😂 We didn't get attacked though...
C. C.
The tour was not scary at all, but it's interesting to listen those stories from our guide. The places we passed through were sultry, almost couldn't breath as there were 15-20 people staying in a small cellar together.
L. T.
Had to leave a 5 star review after having such s good night! Our tour guide, David, was excellent- both funny and informative. Our teenage daughter loved it too. Would highly recommend.
F. F.
I used this company for the Graveyard Tour. Our guide, Grant, has been amazing. He knows exactly how to entertain. Strongly suggested to try an unusual experience. Thanks Grant for your kindness and this fantastic evening!
L.
Went on the vaults tour yesterday the host was brilliant! So entertaining and knew loads! Can't wait to come back to do the graveyard tour! By far the best tour I've ever been on!
J.
Had a great time creeping through the underground city before moving on to the graveyard. The guide we had was a self-confessed storyteller and not a historian so he made it a thoroughly enjoyable tour. It was perfect for what we were looking for.
D. S.
Gerry was a fantastic guide. Funny, knowledgeable and charming. Highly recommend the Double Dead to anyone, except maybe children. Scary locations, good storytelling and a surprise here and there. Sometimes truth is scarier than fiction, and Gerry kept away from superstition and kept it to what was actually recorded.
C. S.
Great laugh. Good atmosphere with a fun guide. Fred did a great job of making a creepy scene while throwing in some whitty banter. Even accidently picked up a pub crawl and led them to a graveyard. A must if your visiting edinburgh.
M. D.
Had a tour with Charlie. Very good.
V. K.
This tour was fantastic. Our guide was very entertaining and an excellent storyteller. It was fascinating to learn the history of the site with the many stories he told us.
S. F.
They've done a great job setting up this tour. The locations were good and the tour guide was interesting. They need to think about how many people are in a tour group - we had around 45 which is probably over double what is practical.
G. M.
Went on a graveyard tour at night. Entertaining, fun and informative and a wee bit scary. Would recommend to anyone wanting to explore Edinburgh's dark side
P. R.
Thanks @city of the dead tour, we spent a good moment for our 1st time in Scotland. The atmosphere is scary, this is what we would like to have. We did the double tour (underground + walking) and it really worth it.
A.
Had a great time, really enjoyed it. The tour guide David was brilliant as he was intelligent, had a great sense of humour and had all the knowledge you could possibly need.
On top of that, i think I've got an image if a ghost (you'll need to view in a dark room). It take's close inspection to work out the face but all features are clearly there. This definately can't be easily dismissed with something like 'brickwork in the shape of a person' or 'residue forming a facial shape' although I can't dismiss anything either way. Please see the original (terrible flash on my Sony z5), highlighted image and cropped image.
We went on the double dead tour the following day (yesterday) so I've also included a couple of shots of greyfrairs cemetry. Would definitely recommend these. Thanks a lot
Ps apologies if the ghost pictures aren't included - I've uploaded them to this post twice, the views are going up for them but I can't see them here.
I. M.
The double dead tour was good I was expecting to have some poltergeist activity but I didn't and there was a lot of history in the tour that I didn't know already. Also got to go in the edinburgh vaults which were very eerie.
J. S.
Very interesting tour. No silly scares just good storytelling. Joshua has a great singing voice too.
A. C.
Rebecca was a lovely and knowlegable guide, giving a fun and interesting tour. We did the underground city of the dead tour which was atmospheric. It wasnt over the top which these things can sometimes be. Would recommend to anyone.
D. S.
Great experience the tour guide Ian made even more enjoyable, great laugh and excellent knowledge of the towns history.
R. A.
We took the 8PM "Double Dead" tour and it was great. The guide (David) was superb - engaging, well-informed, and almost convincingly worried about what might happen on the tour.
J. R.
Adam was a great guide of Edinburgh by night. Would completely recommend to anyone looking to make use of every hour of their time here and not afraid of the dark!
L. H.
Fantastic way to hear the ' not so known' history of this amazing City...Tom ( don't think that was his real name) dressed in a tricoirn hat as his devil worshipping, too sister friendly alter ego, absolutely priceless!!!!.. Knowledgeable and humorous he totally made the history come to life... Amazing experience made even better by such a brilliant guide... Other attractions could do with this type of enthusiasm and professionalism .. Fully recommend.. Thank you
c. k.
Would like to say a very big thank you to Grant who was our tour guide on Friday night 31/7/2020..... He was brilliant, very informative & professional. Highly recommend
L. O.
Good tour and Fred the tour guide is a character.
Great starting location on the Royal Mile.
They offer a couple or routes, we went on the grave yard tour.
J. P.
The history is really dark. I would not bring kids here. The actual expetience was fine. Really informative. Our guide was very funny and knowledgable and that made the experience worth the money spent
s. w.
Was absolutely brilliant, educational,, professional, all round perfect, and value for money, Jamie the tour guide, outstanding! Highly recommended
D. O.
Awesome....definitely worth doing. The guy who done the tour was class too. Go check it out people.
k. k.
The tour guide was incredible and so funny. We loved the tour of the cemetery and all the history.
W. S.
Stuart the tour guide was very funny and knew his stuff well worth the your a big thank you
S. A.
David was soooo so so good. Perfect combo of myth, history and facts weaved sinisterly together until even as a cynic I was nervous.. ...he was knowledgable and funny. 100% recommend
L. H.
Had a quiet group but that didn't stop us and the guide. Only wished it was longer, to have more scares!
M. S.
At the beginning I believed it was gonna drag. But our tour guide Dave made the tour entertaining and by the end they scared the begeeves out of us.
K. D.
Brilliant guide, went above and beyond to give an awesome experience and I have recommended to friends!!
R. E.
Our tour guide was Jerry. He made it funny and interesting. The cemetery had us screaming in freight. Good job
A. R.
Our guide, John, was both hilarious and full of information. This tour was soo much fun. 100% worth the money!
I. H.
Well worth a tour if your in town. We went on the graveyard tour and were entertained for an hour and half by a very funny Australian lady.
M.
Had a great tour with Rebecca! She kept the suspense going and I highly recommend the tour to any and everybody of all ages.
J. W.
Just done the double ghost tour of South bridge vaults & Grey friars grave yard. BRILLIANT guide. Informative, funny, scary & very entertaining. Got a special scare in Grey frairs.😂😂😂😂
M. B.
We had a great tour with Grant who was very knowledgable and entertaining, would do the tour again for sure👻🖤
T. S.
This is my second visit to this Graveyard tour and the second time Ive come away with unexplained scratches on my neck and back, first time with in 2003, its scary as hell especially in the tomb at the end, something unexplained is defiantly currently active in that place, if you into anything paranormal then don't miss out on going to this, Ive seen some bad reviews on this but i recommend ignoring them and booking on it, the tour guide is amazing, mix of humor and scary fun, although when you reach the graveyard its genuinely scary, Ive been on the other tours, this company in my opinion is the best of them., Ive been with other companies for underground tours but not enjoyed them as much, stick with the City of the Dead Tours and you cant go wrong.
S. K.
Great tour, fab guide and loads of grim history.
No ghost encounters unfortunately; but plenty of friday night zombies out of the drink.
r. b.
Very fun tour with a lot of interesting history and funny stories. Gerry was our guide and he was awesome!
c. G.
Excellent tour our tour guide grant was amazing was creepy and eery put group really enjoyed it
S. C.
Not scary in the slightest. More of a history tour, but very interesting nonetheless.
M. J.
Brilliant evening on the "Double Dead Tour" Great fun with some history. Tour guide was really good. Well worth the money :)
A. t. S.

What a wonderful evening, it's technically dark history, so you learn a tremendous amount about the city and backstory, but along with that come some stories to shake you up. Highly recommended, thank you Hess for a fantastic tour!

Super tour avec Charlie, nous avons appris pleins de choses. La visite est intriguante et Charlie a un bon humour ! Il faut parfois être prêt à avoir la chair de poule.

(Translated) Interesting tour which is not only a tourist trap. We learn a lot about Edinburgh and its history.
A good level of English is advised otherwise you will not understand half of the things explained.
(Original)
Tour intéressant qui n'est pas seulement un attrape touriste. On apprend plein de choses sur Edinburgh et son histoire.
Un bon niveau d'anglais est conseillé sinon vous ne comprendrez pas la moitié des choses expliquées.

(Translated) If you are going to Edinburgh, take part in the haunted graveyard tour. In the evening you walk across Greyfriars Kirkyard, visit the prison, and stand where Bloody McKenzie cannot rest because of the curse that has been pronounced on him (he could never rest in this graveyard and there are plenty of testimonials / photos that can prove). Anyway: this tour belongs to a stay in Edinburgh.
(Original)

(Translated) Truly original, the stories told by the guide, Fred, are very interesting, he manages to gradually immerse us in a dark and frightening atmosphere as night falls on the cemetery.
On the other hand, if your English is hesitant you will have difficulty following because although the guide does not have a pronounced Scottish accent, he goes quickly.
(Original)

(Translated) Cool tour with competent guides, who also know about the history of Edinburgh. Real scary tour. We recommend. It's good if you know the corresponding books, then you have even more fun.
(Original)

(Translated) These or comparable tours are offered by min. 3 different providers carried out. We got stuck with this one, no idea why the guy was just sympathetic to us. The tour contains a lot of really well-told stories and if you believe in ghosts and / or the like, it's probably a lot more exciting.
You don't walk through the entire "city of the dead" but only through 1-2 selected rooms that remind a bit of grandma's cellar.
The visit to the cemetery also had a not to be despised entertainment value (I know, sounds macabre) but the stories and how they were told are / were really good.
Conclusion: Don't expect too much to see but rather look forward to the stories, then it will be an entertaining 90 minutes.
It's definitely not an archeology or ghostbusters tour :)
(Original)

(Translated) A great tour through the dark side of Edinburgh, if you go to this city is a must, we did it with Mercat Tours, and our guide could not be better, Alun was a great actor and staged everything making it very enjoyable. The tour is in English, about 12 pounds per person.
