Love this area in the Edinburgh Festival. Real buzz about the place and despite numerous leaflet droppers, retaia good vibe. Lots ofood and drink options in the square and the local area.

Amazing place for the Fringe. If your going to see anyone then Jay Lafferty, Laura Lexx and The Dark Room are THE shows to go to. They are fabulous. You'll have a brilliant time and Gilded Balloon have nice beer gardens and lots of food trucks or nice food places nearby. Very close to George Square Gardens and the Cowgate/ Grassmarket area which is prime areas for The Fringe. Remember The Fringe is only on in August.

Been a few times. A good fringe venue with food and alcohol available. Various room sizes from very intimate to quite large -- although still small enough to enjoy the performance without the need of opera glasses. Large variety of acts to see. Prices for everything pretty much the same as all the main venues.

Went to see Rhod Gilbert and Jon Culshaw here. The venue is well organised and there are plenty of bars dotted around to use before or after a show. No idea what this place is like outside of the Fringe festival.

Visited here as part of the fringe. We were in several of the rooms and most were far too hot. Atmosphere was great though. Some of the rooms the sound of the other gigs were coming through.

Some great Fringe shows (and some just OK ones too). A bit of a maze and not very well signposted internally. Met the only unhelpful member of staff here throughout my visit to the city!

Aunty Donna Gilded Balloon (Venue 14) Aug 12-25 22:00 £10 I took some time out to meet the Melbourne, Australian trio, Aunty Donna to find out what they had in store for this years debut at Edinburgh Fringe Festival. These friendly 'awesome' guys met three years ago while at Acting School and soon came to realise they were actually quite funny! The curiously named 'Aunty Donna' was coined after they found out they all had an aunty named Donna. Fresh from San Francisco 'Sketch Fest', they now embark to conquer the Fringe. When asked to describe their show in three words they claimed it is 'Fast Paced Mayhem'. In their opening sketch Broden Kelly, Zachary Ruane and Mark Samual Bonanno take to the stage, landing us in a hipster coffee bar, their witty scrutiny is taken to ludicrous limits as they act out the scene in outrageous physical comedy. Oozing with energy, the fast paced trio speed us through original, slightly surreal, big and brash comedy all executed in suit and tie. Each working in balance with one another: complimenting their different strengths. We are taken on a singing and dancing journey of men who flight like kangaroos, a widowed husband who deals with grief through puns, loose rope walking, beat drops at a funeral and fatherly love that goes all wrong. Of course a comic show visiting Edinburgh would not be the same without the obligatory Scottish accent gag. It's noisy, it's daft, it's filthy, but in all the right places. Just beware of the great audience interaction. I do hope you like popcorn. Their show goes a bit off kilter at the end when they perform a parody of a TV show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which isn't actually aired in the UK, which seems a bit irrelevant but you still get the joke.

Black is the Color of My Voice 13:15 (60mins) Venue: Gilded Balloon Teviot - Billiard Room Category: Theatre Dates: Aug 5-31 American actress, Apphia Campbell writes and stars in the sensational one woman show, Black is the color of my voice, based loosely on the life of iconic musician and activist Nina Simone. Ms. Campbell is Mena Bordeaux or perhaps I should say Ms. Campbell is Nina Simone. We find Mena holed up and grieving alone as she enters a state of reverie in order to connect with her dead father one last time and to make peace with her life and journey as a strong black woman, musician and activist in a troubled and racist nation. Musical memories tumble out of Mena as she guides the audience through her life of triumph and tragedy as the songs of Nina Simone punctuate the air, at once making the viewer feel the awe and power of Ms. Campbell's acting and voice. The audience sat in rapt attention, swept up in the story, the songs and commanding embodiment of the actress as Ms.Bordeaux/Simone. We raged with her, we cried with her, we cheered with her and we were gripped in the timeline of a nation in turmoil as Ms. Bordeaux played, sang and rallied along in time. This is a powerful piece of theatre, not to be missed. Go see Black is the color of my voice, staring Apphia Campbell.

This is actually the gilded balloon office space. Most fringe performances are at Bristo square on Potterow. Be sure the check out the Plague of iDiOTS show every day at 1:45 and 5:00pm!

Depending on the room the venue is variable. The building is old and interesting. The prices they gouge you for alcohol are ridiculous.
