Reviews of Royal Mile
l.
Absolutely magical and stunning street. The buildings really make you go back in time and all the different pubs and shops give a very nice atmosphere to the area. It's also a splendid walk to get to the castle. One of the top things to do in Edinburgh
J. C.
Incredible part of the old city. Edinburgh castle itself would take almost the whole day to visit. The Scottish whiskey experience is not to be missed. The tartan weaving mill is excellent and loved the bagpipes being played on the road. I would love to visit again.
T. M.
Being Scottish I suppose we don’t appreciate how lucky we are that we can visit one of the worlds best streets within an hour or two of leaving our homes, from the gates of the Castle the thoroughfare stretches for 1 old Scottish mile to the palace of Holyrood which is the Queens official residence when in Edinburgh passing wonderful old buildings and closes full of history , bars , cafes and restaurants of all types crowd the street as well as lots of small unique shops that sell all types of stuff a visitor might want. A very enjoyable couple of hours can be had wandering down the Royal Mile.
J. J.
Stunning architecture lines the streets to Edinburgh Castle.
The streets are buzzing with many people and tourists and plenty of souvenir shops, pubs and street performers can be found here.
It is a spectacular area to walk through and explore.
I would recommend having an umbrella nearby if you plan on exploring the area as there aren’t many roofs covering the streets or walkways.
J.
Interesting historical street. Loads of character. With interesting stories.
It is a tourist trap, but who cares. If you want anything resembling traditional Scottish clothing, food and drink. This is where to be.
R. F.
Very busy in the day time but nice and quite at night. Lovely area to walk in, but do wear comfortable shoes as the roads are not all even. Lots of shops on the road to get unique items but do make sure to compare with the other shops to get a good price.
S. H.
Although there were roadworks going on in April 22, I found the Royal Mile extremely impressive. I walked the Mile several times so I could enjoy the ambiance, History and character.
E. K.
Long street where you can see different artist showing there performance. This variations goes from showing owls, singers and some bagpipes. Is is a straight line from Edinburgh castle to Holyrod castle. A lot of nice places where you can eat, so go for it you will not be disappointed
D. W.
You can't visit Edinburgh without coming here some of the architecture is just mesmerising, if only walls and buildings could talk they would probably have some amazing tales to tell.
J. V. C.
This may be one of the most gorgeous stretches of road in the entire world. A mile of walkable cobblestone extends from the gate of Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Abbey, at the base of Arthur's Seat, a rocky promontory on the eastern fringes of the city. In between, you will marvel at the breath-taking gothic architecture, an uncountable number of museums, galleries, cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops, purveying the entire spectrum of goods for which Scotland is best known: tartan plaids, whiskey, bagpipes, swords, heraldic iconography, cashmere clothing and accessories, and more. Oh, and you'll find several other hidden, historical landmarks, oddities and other interesting little secrets, if you dare to venture into the various alleys, tunnels and cloisters along the way down.
This is the reason you came to Edinburgh in the first place, and the memories of your experience here will be those that will stick with you the longest. History, heritage, pride: it's all here, on display, enshrined in the glory and majesty of its authenticity.
Alba gu bràth!
C. B.
Edinburgh's famous pedestrianized old street is very popular with tourists and locals alike, which makes it so busy anytime,
It's a lovely easy stroll towards Edinburgh's castle, with numerous churches, monuments and attractions along the way.
Absolute gem of a street to visit, has everything from food, drink and gifts for everyone, well worth a visit.
P. B.
Absolutely beautiful old part of the city . Loads of little pubs and cafes mingled with great history and friendly people . The castle atop the hill is an obvious highlight but every hidden nook and cranny offers something new (old?)to be discovered. I will return here without a doubt .
M. G.
Picturesque street to walk down with loads of boutique shops and scotland souvenir shops. Id recommended walking from the castle towards Holyrood as its down hill, and then you can get a bus back!
N. M.
A great experience. We didn't have much time so this was our microtour. The architecture is beautiful. There are plenty of nice shops for souvenirs. And a few pubs and coffee shops too.
J.
Nice steady mile walk from the bottom Queens Gate opposite the Scottish government building to the top of Edinburgh Castle. Along the way there are different monuments that you will embrace. Most attractions are nearby such as St Mary's underground walk and Edinburgh dungeon.
D. T.
Edinburgh is such a great city. We spent a few days exploring during the Fringe festival. Highly recommend the underground tour of Mary King’s Close on the Royal Mile which give you a feeling of what Edinburgh was like hundreds of years ago. We also did a walk up Arthur’s Seat for amazing views of the city.
B. K.
A unique experience, both historical and commercial, entertaining and educational!
Lots of beautiful sites and views as well as quirky things to see. We went whilst the fringe was running, and so our experience was enhanced by the street acts etc...
I could have spent all day just meandering around the streets and alleys, browsing and peering at things and just drinking in the sights and sounds!
P. A.
Love the Royal Mile! So much to do, so much to see. We were lucky enough to be there when an although much reduced, Fringe Festival was on, the street entertainment was fantastic, comical and cringe worthy. The buildings are amazing, the cobbles add to the enchanting appeal. Take a walk and a look down the many side alleys, all full of so much history and intrigue.
The Royal Mile is full of great bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants, you could spend a week or more on a city break and stay in this area and visit a different place each time you want a drink or a meal. Did I tell you how much I love the Royal Mile? Oh, ok then.
D. P.
The royal mile is one of Edinburgh's main attractions. It is full of restaurants, stores and all kind of activities. We visit the mile during the festival and there were many performances on the streets which made it even more enjoyable. Don't forget to look over to the ocean and you will be able to see it from here. The view during the sunset was amazing. The castle is at the end of the street.
K. G.
I so enjoyed walking round here. The shops which there are plenty. The architecture is amazing. I have walking difficulties so it was hard work walking up the mile but easy going down but it is cobbled. Fascinating, will definately go again. The atmosphere is lovely with the hustle and bustle and people watching. Love it.
T. C.
Beautiful architecture and history. Well worth a visit. Like most popular attractions can be busy and full of generic tourist shops.
A. C.
Just got to Edinburgh, what an amazing city, Christmas Market is in full swing, lots of cafes, food courts, shops, only here 3 nights, here mainly for my birthday, 🎂🎉, can't wait to see what tomorrow brings...
A. H.
Visited Edinburgh during the Fringe, so Royal Mile very busy with tourists, enjoying street entertainers, ie. singers, a piper, and a man with his owls, jugglers etc. Great to see Edinburgh so busy, there are so many things to admire, St Giles Cathedral is beautiful. Enjoy a beer / coffee, and food at the numerous restaurants bars and cafes. Well worth a visit. :)
G. B.
Such beautiful place stunning architecture and shops stuff for all ages
T. A.
Very busy street. Edinburgh castle sits at the top. Great range of shops and restaurants.
C. E.
Heart of Edinburgh. From the Castle to the Holyroodhouse Palace, there are so much to see inbetween. Shops, pubs, cathedrals, small side streets, they are great places to see and visit. You would definetely enjoy strolling and seeing what Edinburgh has to offer.
M. K. A.
It's a beautiful street and it's full of architecture and lovely buildings, it has a large amount of old and modern shops, you will enjoy it.
P. L.
The majority of Edinburgh's attractions are easily accessible from here and there is plenty to keep you busy between activities.
Although a little pricey it is well worth a few days visiting and the tourist information shop is ever so helpful.
L. S.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city so much to see and do love Edinburgh been afew times , hotel on the royal mile are a great location can't wait to go back
D. Z.
It is an enjoyable experience. Lots of tourist shops, selling the same products for the same prices, which seems a bit absurd. I would still highly recommend tourists to visit
A. S.
Very cool street leading to Edinburgh Castle. A must go if you’re visiting the city. Tons of shops, bars and more.
N. H.
Just accept that it's a tourist spot and when it's quiet it can be an enjoyable stroll. Some interesting shops on the small roads just off the Royal Mile that are worth a visit.
E. S.
Highly touristic, but so colourful and so worth walking the distance up to the castle 🏰
T. S.
As beautiful as ever. Can be chaotic when the weather is warm but the beautiful aesthetics of the buildings and houses around here always worth a visit when you are in Edinburgh. The Edinburgh Castle is a nice stroll from here. In the last few months there have been a lot of outside sitting areas installed on the road which really add to the liveliness of the places.
R. M.
Fascinating walk from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood. Great to do after you tour the castle. Amazing architecture and history. Lots of great wall and textile shops along the walk. A great place to pick up a new tartan blanket scarf or sweater.
J. M.
Edinburgh is lovely. Lots to do and surrounded by history.
j. r.
Loads of shops and restaurants to pick from with entry of apartments and flats above to stay in either side. There are coach tours to book and tickets to buy to the castle and trips to Loch Ness very near by
T. G.
Incredible architecture and variety of venues. The cobbles and pavements are very slippery when wet. Good footwear needed.
E. M.
This street is very lively very lively, you really feel at home with all the souvenir shops and very lively pubs..
P. d. M.
Beautiful and pitoresque high street. It is full of interesting places, nice buildings and historical places and lively atmosphere. From Hollyrood Palace till the Castle, the tourist will find plenty of history and architectural gems like the St Giles Cathedral. A must.
D.
Great shops, entertainers everywhere, no cars getting in the way. Even better views and architecture. Lots to do & see.
p. b.
Lots of shops, bars, attractions, beautiful views of castle, churches, architecture and surrounding area. Bagpipe player. Guided tours, so much to see and do.
V. c.
Amazing and beautiful place. Every single alley is a place to explore . Beautiful shops, Amazing pubs and late night eateries.
M. A.
Very touristy but worth it! Make sure you go off the main tracks, some really nice alleyways.
R. M.
Lovely road to walk down. Some good shops and tourist attractions. Could do with more , how can I put it - entertainers/acts in the street.
A. S.
Beautiful and probably the most attractive walk in Edinburgh. Ideally the walk gets better as we go close to the castle. So I'd suggest starting the walk from the Queen's Gallery. From the Queen's Gallery the walk is uphill but not too much. Try to go a little early since the street gets crowded in no time with all the tourists.
Towards the castle you'll also find the famous Victoria Street which is super Famous in its own ways.
K. L.
A must when in Edinburgh. A great scenic workout as well!
F. A.
Love it,love Edinburgh,my advice would be to look at u tube, there are lots of very good video's of the old town, pay attention to the closes, greyfairs Kirk and the area called the grass market ,that's on the royal mile at the top between st Giles and the castle,it's all on you tube! Don't pay the guides, they are expensive, they offer tours they learnt from u tube and charge outrageous prices! Watch a couple of videos and think of a trip to the old town as an edventure-dont miss greyfairs Bobby,a true and beautiful tale.t(the view of the castle is from the grass market)
b. h.
Best part of our trip to the city. Whats missing from my last trip in 1983 was the antique shops full of Edinburghs history. But still full of cafes and whisky shops souvenirs and hidden gems down allyways
C. R.
Beautiful architecture, amazing castle, cathedral and Royal residence
S. M.
Lots of pubs gift shops and whiskey experience shops start at the bottom of the mile ans work your way up to the castle its an experience worth taking a good walk with Lots of pictures to take
N. B.
Walk through Royal mile and have a memorable Edinburgh experience..
D. S.
Shops, Bars, Cafes, Restaurants, Entertainment, History, the Royal Mile is just great!
H. D.
Had a great time exploring the Royal Mile. Lots to see and do here.
G. G.
If you're going to walk a mile in the UK, make it this one! From Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament building ip to Edinburgh Castle, with so much in between. So much to soak up!
R. R.
The Royal Mile runs through the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, connecting the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, perched high on a base of volcanic rock, with the splendorous Palace of Holyroodhouse, resting in the shadow of Arthur's Seat. The Mile is overlooked by impressive, towering tenements, between which cobbled closes and narrow stairways interlock to create a secret underground world. One of the Beautiful location for photography. The pictures comes beautiful and magical even if it is taken by the amateur photographers. This also one of the location where most of the movies are shot like Avengers: Infinity War and many other movies.
C. R.
One of my favourite places in Scotland, so vibrant lots of colours and street artists makes for a really cool vibe. Had a great day out with my wife and son. Love all the side streets and alleyways off it.
P. M.
Nice walk down from the castle and a selection of shops to checkout.
Nice hidden side streets to checkout as well.
S. M.
I walk the Royal Mile every day. I use the chemist regularly. As far as shops are concerned I find it disappointing. If I were a tourist I would like a better selection of shops.
Edinburgh is wonderful for its history & architecture. But when it comes to shopping I'd rather go to Glasgow.
m. p.
Lovely place to visit and no trip to Edinburgh would be complete without a walk down the Royal Mile. However it seems to be that it is the victim of its own success because it does get rather busy. Some of the shops are a bit samey, but I guess they're tapping into the tourist trade. That said, there are plenty of places to visit, lots of good pubs and eateries and the atmosphere is excellent.
D. F.
You have to take a day trip here while in Edinburgh. Definitely a fun tourist trap walk through.
S. G.
You either love it or hate it, we love it. Busy, full of tourist tat shops with little gems dotted in between. The year round Christmas shops are great Pipers playing in doorways, tartan overload everywhere, more shortbread than you could ever want or need. Crazy, full of life, wonderful after long lockdowns and misery. Edinburgh is back and the Roysl Mile is a must.
T. w. I.
Its the old town of Edinburgh with a lot kilt and whiskey shops. Its a beautiful place and is most of the time crowdy. Recommend to everyone who visits this city
J. M.
One of the best places in Edinburgh. Walk from the bottom from the parliament building right up to the Castle is simply the best. Loads of restaurants and bars contribute to the positive vibe throughout! Never miss it.
S. R.
Beautiful
Entertaining
Lots of halal places to eat
Souvenir shops
Henna cartoon artists
Entertainers and lots more!
A.
Lot of tourist attractions. Best restaurant as well
L. K.
Loved taking in the beautiful scenery, took a steady walk checking out all the amazing shops and stopped for tea at a lovely tearoom on the royal mile. This was well worth taking the time to do. It is a forever memory.
O. P.
Wonderful street through the heart of Edinburgh, with wonderful architecture and plenty of attractions for tourists. There are numerous gift shops, cafés and paid experiences. Remember to book attractions beforehand! Also note some smaller restaurants still only accept cash so bring a small stash with you. The cobbles would be troublesome for wheelchairs users as there is often scaffolding on the paths during restoration periods. There is a car park at the bottom of the hill, but you better not go after leg day because you're not going to make it up those steps!
A. C.
Scotland - the most wonderful country.....full of magic, beauty, miracles and adventures.
P. M.
Great Edinburgh experience! Don't forget to get a deep-fried Mars bar! Scotch tasting, too!
c. o.
Great space with plenty of pubs and places to eat. St Giles cathedral is stunning. Recommended the underground walking tours nearby.
S. S.
Really nice friendly helpful people ,unfortunately one of them knocked me of my bike a&e were great
D. A.
Probably what you came to see in Edinburgh. Well maintained shops and attractions. Obviously you pay more for anything you do here. But it has the history and architecture.
D. S.
I love Edinburgh and the Royal Mile is wonderful, with its many shops, bars, canary and restaurants there is something for everyone and the architecture is just amazing.
The Car parking is quite expensive at £4.60 an hour but if you do a bit of research you can find cheaper places.
A. K.
Beautiful 1 mile walk to the castle on one side and holy rood palace on other. Cobbled streets. Beautiful pubs. Old lanes. Alleyways.
S.
A must see if you visit Edinburgh! Walk from the castle to the palace.
V. M.
Fab walk lots to see and do, eat & drink, recommend a visit.
O. K.

S. M.
Interesting place to take a stroll. Must visit in Edinburgh
S. S.
Such an amazing piece. When walking the Royal Mile, you can feel the heritage, the incredibly warm and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
L. H.
So much history and fun packed into a "Mile". Do yourself a favor, and book a tour with the Kilted Spaniard (Paul - find him on Instagram). It will be the best decision you will make while in Edinburgh. I PROMISE! It gives you such an amazing appreciation for what you may otherwise see as just a historical tourist trap. Paul is amazing, and gives you so many nuggets of history and bonus stories you won't get elsewhere. #kiltedspaniard
D. N.
The Royal Mile is at the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, with Edinburgh Castle at its head and the Palace of Holyroodhouse at its foot. Its name comes from its tradition as a processional route for kings and queens for the last 500 years.
It is now mile of souvenir shops, take-aways, quint coffee spots and warm restaurants and pubs. Beautiful architecture and an immense history. Be sure to hop on one the walking tours when you're there!
H. P.
The most beautiful City i've seen since a long long time... Everybody has to go there!!! No asks needed ;)
R.
So beautiful. Always beautiful to walk around here, nothing like another place in uk. So many beautiful views so many close. Must visit in Edinburgh.
I. C.
Beautiful old strip in old Edinburgh. Must see. Very tourist focused but excellent to walk from Hollyrood to Edinburgh Castle and experience the old town. Cashmere is for sale everywhere. Make sure to find the 'Made in Scotland' label for authenticity and to support Scottish industry.
G. I.
Lovely old buildings leading up to the castle. Shops very touristy with typical tourist prices, bars and restaurants too. Looks especially beautiful ant night time.
s. l.
Amazing place to be. The buildings were beautiful. Lovely little streets. So much to see. Will definitely return
d. r.
Very very busy plenty of shopping and dining places and also tour's, Unfortunately we went up to Castle and couldn't get due to you have to book on line
K. M.
Absolutely stunning..love this place xxx
M. S.
Starting off at Holyrood Palace you can take a gentle stroll up this street as you pass by all kinds of shops, restaurants, pubs, and attractions. As you approach the top you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle. Well worth the walk.
T. H.
A place with a lot of history and something for everyone. Explore some of Edinburgh's past on foot. Stop of at one of the many quaint cafés for a coffee stop and a bite to eat. Each side of the Royal Mile provides a sight to see be it the historic castle or the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
A. M.
Amazing experience I would highly recommend visiting this area..full of history ..shops .. statues.. restaurants..and beautiful buildings. The underground closes are unforgettable.
K. M.
Great shops go and look and it takes u right up to Edinburgh castle.xc
G. V.
Beautiful old street with nice little shops
B. J. N.
So many attractions and historical places some are too urbanized already
J. H.
It's really a glorified high street. Plenty of shops and cafes along it and interesting things to see. Worth walking the whole length, goes well towards you 10,000 steps.
A. S.
Had a wonderful day ☺ Bought a beautiful coat from Royal Mile Factory Outlet. The Gentleman Who Runs The Shop Is A Most Splendid Human Being ❤ Who Was A Pleasure To Do Business With ❤ Top Banana 🍌
A. T.
An interesting experience, but too many 'tourist tat' shops. Architecture is striking in places. Most of the 'must see/experience' sights and sites have expensive entry fees. It is for tourists in the main.
H. V.
This is definitely a must see when in Edinburgh. We loved exploring the all the alley ways and closes. So many interesting finds. There is usually some great street entertainment. You will want to walk it a few times as there is always something you will realize you missed.
J. B.
A splendid activity for all ages. Fitness needed to reach the top for spectacular views over the city.
S. H.
Great place. Great bars and restaurants
T. n. G. A.
Lots of shops around plenty things to do
D. K.
This is fantastic area to visit for any traveler to Edinburgh. The shops, history, and culture here are all outstanding. You can honestly spend days wandering around the street taking in the architecture and perusing the many shops. With many great stops near by this street, it is a must visit for any visitor to this city.
Z. Z.
You can get loads of gifts here if you wish something from Scotland.
Not to say dead cheap but you can get a good price if you care to wander a bit
J. M. (.
It's a hell of a walk up hill.
lots of shops
quite a busy place some nice buildings .
Edinburgh a fair laid back place.
And welcoming folk......
S. N.
Love the Royal Mile! So many beautiful buildings, closes and side alleys to see. Lots to see and do and many great places to eat. Usually absolutely bustling but today due to COVID_19 it was very quiet, which was quite nice because you could see so much more, things I hadn't noticed before.
R. R.
Great staff and accommodations in the heart of everything
I had an accident around year ago and now snore loudly,
Talked to staff about annoying other guests in the 6 bed room and they gave me a room on top floor where I was alone with my partner.
In the 17 days there only twice was the other floors fully booked and had other guests I my room.
Well done staff.
C. L.
Jolly Judge
Return visit after lockdowns.
This time it's Mexicake for me ; Chile chocolate imperial stout. 11%
Not cheap but forwarded and worth a try.
Ipanapple; pineapple beer for mum
Still worth finding and visiting this hidden gem.
k.
So many things going on but worth a visit
L. W.
Lots of restaurants, pubs and shops to keep you happy and busy. Its very pretty and leads up to Edinburgh Castle.
p. b.
Such a delight walking up and down here. Some great pubs including, the Royal Mile Tavern and the pub next to it. Both do very good food.
At top of the mile is a Nicholson pub, the Deacon and the Brodie where RLStevenson gained inspiration for his horror classic. Further up is the castle.
Y.
Magical place to visit. The people are wonderful. Great for Wheelchair users as the pavements have all been redone and easy for wheelchairs to navigate all the way up towards Edinburgh Castle
P. Y.
Love this street. So many things to see and bookended between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. Always worth taking a stroll starting from the Castle Esplanade then it's down hill to Holyrood.
I. A.
Bustling central street. Historical. Beautiful
architecture. Masterpiece of Masonic work.
There are lots of bars and restaurants here, lovely shops: vintage and modern, galleries and museums for any taste. Welcoming and friendly atmosphere with plenty of attractions and artistic performances going on around. Inciting and exiting. Paradise for the tourists. Must be seen!
V. S.
The Royal Mile is one of the famous walks in the world surrounded by the colourful shops and eateries starting from Hollyrood Palace till Edinburgh Castle filled with breathtaking views showcasing the rich cultural and architectural heritage of Scotland, one can't afford to be in Edinburgh and not visiting the royal mile!
P. H.
The must see if you are in Edinburgh. At one end is the city centre, at the other, Holyroodhouse and park, and the parliament buildings. Don't miss a hidden gardens at Dunbars Close as you walk down the hill on the left and the Worlds End pub on the right. This is the road of the tourist trap so stop here for a kilts, tartan scarfs, etc.
T. G.
This street was nice with a few shops but was quite crowded because of the roadworks
S. S.
All honesty make sure u go from the queens gallery at the bottom of the royal mile all the way up to Edinburgh Castle, it is truly amazing every building is untouched, looked down every passage way to get a feel of the past, its definitely 1 of if not the best tourist place in the UK.
P. B.
Love it love it love it. Cobble stones can be hard to walk on atmospheric picturesque best place in Edinburgh
M. R. (.
The top end where the castle is, is more impressive than the bottom end near Holyrood and the parliament building; and is also closer to Princes Street. There is a lot of slugging up and down hills though, so if you're wobbly on your pins I'd settle for the hop-on-hop-off tourist bus. There's a taxi rank near the top end; I didn't see one at the bottom. The Royal Mile is basically a string of shops with the odd tourist attraction thrown in. Mostly you'd need to book these attractions in advance, especially the castle.
Holyrood seems to be less busy than the castle. Mary Close is worth seeing. Don't forget to pop in to the cathedral - they ask for £5 and say "admission by donation" so it's not entirely clear how voluntary the charge is.
M. R. C.
The place is quite unlike anything i've ever experienced before in any other city. The stone carved pavements and streets seemed from anoher time when horses used to be the only mode of transports. One can spend a whole day walking by these streets and enjoy a different kind of experience. Although the city always full of tourists, one would hardly find any essential public services(toilets, charging ports etc.) free.

Worth the walk. Point is not to be distracted by the tourist stuff, but to explore the little roads at the whole stretch. That's mean 3 hrs or more!! Went down to the parliament house and what what a secenery with Authur hill in the background.. and as you make the way up see the various styles of the buildings and as it turns dark the lightings and all.. and if u still have light u see the sea at the end of the mile!! Lovely.. various eateries there are but try our Michael's steak and seafood place, affordable seafood and meats..
A. M.
Fantastic morning had walking around the mile
C. H.

A place to see excellent, ancient and medieval buildings and architecture.
R. S.
One of the loveliest and interesting places in the world. To really enjoy it, venture off down the side closes and be amazed at what you will find and see.
J. N.
Very nice walking place in Scotland:)
R. C.
Great place to start your exploration of Edinburgh !
E. G.
I cannot visit Edinburgh without a trip to the Royal Mile. I love the happy atmosphere of the place whatever the weather.
J. N.
Some great shops and cafes. A lovely meal at The Filling Station in the open air and sunshine.
C. O. B.
WOW!! So much history and plenty shopping..
M. C.
Historic and photogenic street. Recommend using the city tours bus to get dropped off by holyrood house, then walk the mile up the hill to the castle. Not too steep, a nice steady gradient. Lots of quirky independent shops and cafes along the mile, ranging from Christmas to Harry potter. Also a couple of museums. Walk slowly as there are a few things you could easily miss such as historical plaques on the walls.
M. M.
I Love this city , people, bars , restaurants I have nothing bad to say , if you haven't been Go .
L. C.
A beautiful area to explore with plenty of small businesses with lots of unique products made from the area as well as plenty of activities to do for a city break away.
N.
Loved it . This is called Royal Mile ! There are so many closes here like narrow streets and at that time till now they are called close !
But the royal mile is one of the famous tourist's place as it got a Castle , Camera Obscura , edinburgh dungeon , Mary king's Close etc. This have history .
Nice place to spend with someone you love or if it's with your family. It's a historic get away and scenic holiday .🙂
But it is usually rushy and congested during different festivals or saint Andrews day as well. Parking is not free there as it is the busiest mile from all other miles !! But a true awesome experience for the first time or if you want to go the second time as well.
I loved every bit of history there , the dungeon the people with a history who use to live there for centuries ! Plague that hit the scotland centuries before ! You will find interesting with so much to see and observing there !
The old church from that time is still there , Mary KinG Close packed with history and stories from their times ❤❤ how people use to live in building upon building , houses upon houses under the ground where we tread now a days !😯
My experience was truly amazing i went there with my brother and it was worthehile spending the day visiting , eating and shopping 🙂
They got edinburgh castle and it is great to peep into edinburgh history.
From camera obscura you can view who royal mile and castle as well. You can see moon , stars and some of the surrounding part of edinburgh as well. Which was an amazing breathtaking experience i had .
Will recommend this place to be visited atleast once.
M. M.
Edinburgh is just the most beautiful City.
I.
Nice bustling Street, many shops, you due tend to get a duplication of products in most the shops but don't let this put you off as you can find a item or two that is right up your alley. Be warned there are alot of cashmere shops..... Maybe two many
S. K.
Good walk with a lot of historical buildings. Medieval architecture and a lot of expensive shops. Generally crowded during weekends. Liked bag pipers in traditional Scottish quilt.
G. S.
An abundance of history stretching between the castle and Holyrood house. I've been in every pub, and walked the mile several times. I love the fudge shop, Edinburgh fudge is my favourite of all fudge. I have nothing bad to say about the royal mile.
e. h.
Fabulous atmosphere, scenery & history. Would strongly recommend spending a couple of hours here
D. L.
A lovely place to visit. Quieter than normal managed to see more than previous visits due to no fringe and tourists.
G. W.
The most famous street in Edinburgh the Royal Mile leads up from the nearby Waverley Station to Edinburgh Castle.
During the Edinburgh Fringe festival all sorts of street entertainers fill the street.
There are several souvenir shops all the way up, as well as many cafes and restaurants.
K. L. C.
Traditionally the centre of Edinburgh for all visitors leading to the amazing Castle and grounds. Excellent views of the city and beyond ... a must see city ...
A. E.
Edinburgh's famous Royal mile is very touristy and fill of souvenir shops. But the buildings are wonderful and there are some lovely eating places. I'd highly recommend staying from the castle end because it's quite a long climb if you walk up from Holyrood!
I. G.
Enjoyable mile with to many surprises
J. p.
Royal Mile is good however unfortunately its become stagnet with the same shops selling the same tack unfortunately, further down is better with more unquie shops
J. J.
Amazing buildings, lots of places to visit, interesting shops. Lack of toilet facilities and benches was a downside.
R. Q.
Take your time to call into the many shops and tourist attractions along this road. Drop into the many historical and interesting pubs along the way to break up your walk. The castle at the top of the Royal Mile is of course a must while you're in Edinburgh.
St Giles' cathedral is also worth a visit.
h. s.
It's one of the major highlights of edinburgh and is a must visit. It is breathtaking, has a number of bars and cafes to sit outside and enjoy the historic city of dead.
M. R.
Such fun in a beautiful town. Great for everyone. Absolutely stunning. The people of Scotland are the absolute best.
M. B.
The Royal Mile is a must visit when in Edinburgh - Beautiful, Historic and Quaint!
An amazing place to witness the Historic Scottish Architecture. The place is lined with Restaurants, Cashmere and Lamb Wool Garment Shops, Scottish Souvenir and Gift Shops.
J. T.
So much to see and do, the architecture of the city is amazing, how did they do it.
An experience not to be missed
I. d. A.
This ancient cobbled road in the heart of Edinburgh stretching from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace showcases the city's most important historical sites. Very popular with visitors and street performers, The Royal Mile is a must for anyone interested in Scottish history. Stemming from the main road, narrow alleyways ('Wynds') lead to more secluded stone patios and artisan shops. You can purchase almost anything on this busy street, from the always popular tartan scarves to homemade fudge and of course, all sorts of Harry Potter memorabilia!

Good place to shop all Scottish gifts. Lots of collection. Prices are same in all shops. So one can simply focus on designs
s. m.
Stunning! Fantastic selection of shops, cafés and pubs. A must if you visit Edinburgh
C. J.
Fantastic feel...old town buildings.Secret passageways.
Underground streets with powerful mind entoxicating history.. Highly recommended the walking tour of the royal mile. We completed a tour with Al. He brought the old town and history of Edinburgh alive ..Thanks Al...This is a must do visit..
S. M.
Some beautiful architecture on the mile & a really nice way to walk from the palace to the castle. Some of the shops are really unusual with lovely quality items, some however are typically touristy
J. G.
When in Edinburgh you must walk the Royal Mile. Buy some tweed or cashmere, pop into a pub for a dram of whiskey, and enjoy the street performers along the route connecting Edinburgh Castle to Hollyrood Palace.
a. m.
Loads to see, lots to explore x shops are amazing as are the bars x
R. S.
One of the loveliest and interesting places in the world. To really enjoy it, venture off down the side closes and be amazed at what you will find and see.
H. D.
Special fine menus like oyster, mussels, ribeye and king prawns.
That was SO good.
C. W.
Fantastic. Try the Ghost Bus Tour and the Harry Potter tour with Katrina!
M. M.
for parking arrangement, i recommend park at Raddison Blue. GBP20 for 3 hours, but what do you expect
M. W.
Edinburgh is a beautiful city and the royal mile is a very good place to start there is so much see
A. G.
😍 lovely. Worth visiting. Amazing experience. Superb attractions in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town.
Y. L.
Place is quite good. Nice to have a visit after lunch.
F. G.
Go walk the Royal Mile. You will love it
S. S.
Make sure you have good shoes foe walking. Loads to look at down the Mile.
M. J.
Went to Christmas market - it was manic. Loads of people and queues. The pavements were heaving. Been here previously (pre-pandemic) and it was not like this. To be honest we couldn't wait to get out - maybe because of pandemic, people are coming out. Even though it's an outside event, masks should have been a requirement as there was no social distancing (regardless of jabs).
From previous experience of the noise, glad we booked hotel about 15 mins walk away from all the action. Not sure we'll visit at this time of year again, unless restrictions are lifted.
R. C.
Edinburgh is a fantastic city and the Royal Mile is full of shopping, gorgeous buildings and access to lots to do.
S. P.
An historical walk without compare. Turn around and there is another cultural moment of interest. Research prior to visiting. There are many minor details of interest. Eg in Canongate kirkyard resides the tomb of Adam Smith, the founding father of Economics. And, much more.
C. M.
Love to see the artists and various different entertainment its becomeing an all year round festie on the best days just wish they,d move that stone piece off strange artwork atbehind the tron it reminds most folk off a giant dog poo!!!!
D. D.
Had two lovely meals there. Quieter than usual due to covid. Still has street entertainment.
M. M.
Definitely come back to Edinburgh.
Lovely place.
J. A.
An absolute must do if you are visiting the city. Easily some of the most spectacular views and architecture in the UK. So many shops and restaurants around that can keep you busy, ample spots for worthwhile photos and some awesome street performers adding to the atmosphere.
J. C.
Lots of quaint shops and cafes...beautiful building which ooze history and intrigue..there is soooo much packed into here..lots of little alleys to explore and steps to climb .
P. V.
The architecture is amazing, I was blown away by the grandeur of all the buildings in Edinburgh and not least along the Royal Mile. There is something for everyone, lots of shops, restaurants, cafes, entertainment to suit everyone. It's busy and bustling during the day and lit up and magical in the evening. Can be enjoyed at any time of the day! We loved just having a wander around!
R. C.
Lovely afternoon exploring the old town and the Royal Mile here in Edinborough, so much to see and do and can't wait for tomorrow to explore more and further afield
J. P.
Fabulous. Scotland was largely untouched by the war and this is a time capsule. Lots of shops for kilts and jumpers ect
M. I.
An extension to the High Street with very nice attractions, cafes and restaurants. It encompasses many shows during August as part of a festival.
E. “. A.
Loud, packed with tourists, and most of the shops are dedicated to selling Scottish souvenirs at inflated prices. Lovely part of town though with historic buildings and lots of alleys to explore.
Watch out for ghosts and buskers. Do not recommend living there as most windows are single-glazed for historic reasons which means they let heat out and sound in
N. S.
A bit touristy, but why not. A great place to buy a kilt or a nice bottle of whisky and one or two nice pubs so what's not to like.
K. M.
Gorgeous street with lots of history.
P. K.
Amazing place, somewhere everyone should explore at least once
H. M.
There is so much to do. Such a lovely city, with a lot of interesting history! One of the best cities I have ever been to. The royal mile offers great views of the castle, lots of different cuisines to try, tourist and traditional Scottish shops, great links to the train station and other tourist aspect like the dungeons and various tours of Edinburgh as well as street performers and pipers. Walking up the mile you always feel immersed in scottish culture.
T. B.
A place to see excellent, ancient and medieval buildings and architecture.
P. G.
Stunning place to walk, shop and eat
R. M.
A very happy place for me! It is great way to enjoy a walk down the shops as well as admiring the beautiful historical buildings. A special place to buy souvenirs for friends and family while visiting this great city o Edinburgh.
Z. B.
So interesting. Different shops amongst so much history. Don't miss the passageways, you will be surprised of more history tucked away. Shop well for your whisky, some pricing varies..alot!!
D. F.
Old town...... love so much. Can't explain why. I just like to walk and see the surrounding buildings and the people, the old stores, pubs..... just amazing
K. S.
It's cool how you have a guide on your phone and you can browse around the Royal Mile. It was nice to walk and see the history of Scotland. If you're starting at the castle, then it's quite a trek up but when walking down to the Scottish Parliament, it's all down hill. But it obviously is uphill on the way back. But it's nice. And we got the privilege of hearing some bagpipe on the way. :) Its a good place for a small historic walk!
M. S.
A must visit area of Edinburgh whether you walk up toward the castle or down toward the Scottish Parliament building. Additionally dont forget the many offshoot roads and alleyways. Take your time and enjoy. Good pubs and restaurants and street entertainment near St Giles Cathedral. Enjoy.
J. M.
Little disappointed with the Royal Mile, yes there's places of Interest like the cathedral, Castle etc but if your after cheap souvenir shops then your sorted but once you've been in one of them they are all pretty much the same.
Also enty of coffee shops, bars and restaurants but would have liked to see more of a variety which there is if you walk down the hill on the way to the palace
N. N.
The Royal Mile is the main historic street in Edinburgh, Scotland. There are many old buildings, alley ways called closes, and Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock at one end and Holyrood Palace at the other end. There are also shops and restaurants.
m. B.
Great place to visit, I will say there are quite a few cheap tartan shops around which is fine for cheap novelty items but I wanted the proper hand made tartan so look about for the right shop and have it made believe me it's worth every penny. Whisky shops are a plenty and the buildings are stunning.
D. F.
Great place to walk and see the ton of cashmere shops 😳don't really need to pay a guide £25 via TripAdvisor - it's literally one long street.
Many places to see if you love architecture and lover of perusing the many retail outlets
N. S.
Beautiful buildings, nice walk all the way up to Castle and stunning view of the city.
s. W.
Edinburgh's treasure. Fantastic especially during festival
T. E.
Nice place to visit on a warm sunny day lots to see been a couple of times first in summer butifull loved it
S. R.
Loved it. Great street to walk around and chill. Had coffee and awesome breakfast there.
h. e.
You can enjoy the history in this place, very old building give you feeling you transferred back in time to 18th
M. C.
Look up to really appreciate the beauty of old Edinburgh - you can see the sea on the horizon ahead too. Lots of bars, cafes and restaurants and souvenir shops. Stop and take in a street performer. Great atmosphere. Can't get very busy and crowded so take your time and don't rush
H. P.
Bit of a wait to get served. But lovely place, great coffee and pastries. Staff friendly and helpful. Big thumbs up
N. C.
Lots of touristy shops and some really nice pubs.
F. H.
Nice Walk but vechiles just barge thier way at one bit. One point a taxi was just honking his horn at me and driving too fast
d. p.
Loved it here. Stayed on the Royal Mile for the weekend. Hustle bustle. Nice coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. Went on a walking tour. Just where you want to be for old Edinburgh.
M. B.
Full of atmosphere, though the goods for sale in many of the souvenir shops seem the same. Local pubs are worth a peek and a sample of some of the real ales available.
B. R.
People say Princess Street is the heart of Edinburgh, fair enough but if you want to feel the heart of Edinburgh you have to travel up and down and around the Royal Mile area and shops, bars, restaurants and of course the Edinburgh dungeon.
S. G.
Beautiful walk up to castle.. good choices for food/drinks and shops
R. K.
Very very busy. Doesn't matter, it's night or day, Monday or Sunday, always very busy. But the climate of the Street - unforgettable.
A. T.
I was a bit disappointed as I thought this would be like La Rambla in Barcelona. Half the mile is full of shops, cafes and restaurants but the other half is very quiet. It would be amazing to visit during the comedy festival
J. O.
A must visit place in Edinburgh. Restaurants and shops around the area.
M. H.
Very quaint and lots of history
T. C.
Jammed with history, beautiful. Full of expensive tatt filled shops, but aren't all cities. Great pubs and restaurants, but expensive. Your paying for the views. The Palace at one end, and a castle at the other. You can't complain at that.
P. M.
Nice bars and restaurants. My one complaint is that all the gift shops along the Royal Mile seem to be selling exactly the same products with very little variation in price (mostly precisely the same price) Not exactly good for consumers.
B. E.
Loads of history, great architecture and friendly people. Museum is well worth a visit.
N. O.
Edinburgh is just magical. I love to come here. I am English biologically but scottish emotionally. I adore the sea haar, the spookiness, the weird rubbish bins in the street, and the views of the Firth of Forth. I also grew used to the challenge of walking up cobbles coated with running water.
Love you Scotland. How could anyone not love a country whose national animal is a unicorn?
J. W.
This is my favourite part of Edinburgh, lovely old cobbled street with nice shops.
M. S.
I have always loved this place especially at Xmas, but at the time I visited there was a lot of road and pavement closures, meaning slow movement due to the amount of people about.
A. W.
Not as busy as usual nice to walk around the very good grassmarket area very good bistros.
M. S.
Awesome, the architecture is incredible and the locals are friendly. A history geeks dream.
N. C.
Lovely area in Edinburgh
A. P.
A lot of new eateries have appeared where some quality tourist shops used to be on the mile I think covid has taken its toil still worth a visit just less choice of shops
a. w.
Loved all the buildings and the intresting stories behind some of them...hated the hills....but all in all had 4 great days there👍
J. O.
Beautiful city. Well worth a visit
A. L.
The amount of shops and places to eat are nearly endless. Scotland is beautiful and well worth the trip if you can ever manage it. I even plan on moving here.
G. B.
Impossible to not fall in love. Is an enjoyable walk with beautiful buildings.
For souvenirs the prices are higher if is close to the castle
K. S.
Just spent a great 2 days in Edinburgh. Our hotel was just off the Royal Mile. Lots of things to see and do
B. S.
Beautiful area to walk around. So many choices for food, drinks, and shopping.
S. P.
Great experience. Thought Edinburgh a wonderful city.
A. S.
Lots of shops and restaurants there. Atmosphere is amazing with many street artists.
m. s.
Didn't like the Christmas markets to pack, couldn't move to many people this was on the first day don't know what it's like now, the rest of the royal Mile was great 👍
A. M.
Iconic street with nice building. Flags, shows, and JK Rowling hand print
m. e.
Simply fabulous street to meander along ,especially during Fringe season. Shops a bit hit and miss, unless you like gift shops (3,000 shops selling something made of tartan) and nearly as many whisky themed shops (never too many of those). Can also be a home to a decent number of local drunk folk, but no trouble. All part of the experience!!
E. W.
Lots of shops and places to eat. Great views. Fabulous architecture. Highly recommend a visit
P. C.
Beautiful walk. Great whisky shops!
W. C.
Really enjoyed my walk along here, with all the shops, the beautiful buildings, and little alleyways leading off it. Spoilt for choice regarding eating and drinking places along here
J. H.
Amazing place and still did not see it all but a lot of repeat shops up and down the Royal Mile
S. R.
Huge variety of culture, history, shops, bars, pubs, entertainment and activities. Really clean and friendly too
G. D.
Lots to see and do from castle to more attractions on way down street.
C. P.
You need more than one day to explore this area. There is a lot of attractions, history, bars and shopping.
G. S.
Long walk and a good walk from main town
M. P.
Awesome street
Great shops cafes and bars
Would strongly recommend a stroll
A. D.
A lot of history in the building leading up to the castle.
S. S.
Grab your drinks!
C. W.
Beautiful by night especially, the architecture paints a picture in the sky.
I. B.
Its fine if only they would take away that vandalised phone boxes and get a council chap to pick up the rubbish thats lying about its a disgrace they are a lot cleaner in forgien countrys in there tourist areas Thank goodness there are a few new restuarants opened up which helps the are we dont want anymore highland shops especially the ones that sell cheap Scottish rubbish its a shame for the good real kilt shops they get a bad name because of this tat.It should be full of good shops and nice bars and restaurants.
J. S.
Stunning street with lots of eatery and bars also alot of gift shops. The castle at the top finishes it all off.
h. c.
Shops very touristy but the ambiance at Xmas was good and the buildings superb . What's not to like
J. J.
Have to say thoroughly relaxing, a piper in his tunic tootling the bagpipes...lots of eating places and loads of shops for us tourists!! And Adam the Jacobite man enacting for leukemia research, what a star!!
b. g.
From the bottom at Holyrood palace to the top at Edinburgh Castle, lots of shops and places to eat. This city is a must see, history at every turn. Terrific atmosphere but will be a problem for anyone with mobility issues, its quite steep, but do what i did start at the top he he he he
b. w.
What an amazing place...
Cant stop telling my mates about it.
Will definitely be returning..
W.
Nice to walk the Royal mile with all the shops, lights and xmas decoratings
S. S.
You have to walk down The Mile at least once, but do your souvenir shopping on South Bridge and your restaurants on George IV Bridge or the Grassmarket. The attractions like the Castle, Camera Obscura, St Giles, Gladstones Land and John Knox House are all a must see. And save a couple pounds for the hard-working buskers, especially the piper.
S. J.
So much to see, had a coffee in a little cafe and watched the world go by
r.
Good gift and Whisky shops only problem is it is on a very steep hill not really suitable for wheelchairs and the cobble roads are also difficult for wheelchairs
M. Q.
The Royal Mile is very touristy lots of shops
.but a very nice place for walking
T. E.
I bought tickets for Edinburgh castle on my phone app straight away and walked straight in £31.00 for 2 people.
P. A.
We visited at lunchtime and were also accompanied by our dog. They were really welcoming, even bringing our dog her own water bowl. The food was great. I had soup and a caesar salad with bacon, and both were delicious. Loved the whole meal and would definitely go back.
A. S.
A lively place, bustling with tourists and locals alike. One side of the Royal Mile ends on the Edinburgh Castle. The street is full of souvenir shops and some amazing eateries.
J. O.
There's something quite magical about walking up the Royal Mile and taking in the atmosphere. There's always some street performers, especially around festival time. The view from the Castle, looking down across Princess Street Gardens and over Waverly train Station is breath taking.
M. O.
The most awesome place to stay in Edinburg, Scotland. Amazing stores, amazing restaurants and you can't be the scenery. It's like walking into a history book! It's a must see!
R. P.
A must see in Edinburgh... Some great shops on that street and perfect atmosphere... If you are not into crowded pubs then try having a look into the next street for a nice and stylish restaurant, sure you will find one...
Y. A.
Edinburgh under lockdown, ALL places needing booking and here we are unfortunately arriving here unprepared.
Yet this walk down from the Castle was wonderful! I'm shattered but happy, as are the whole family. The architecture in view is phenomenal, I only wish I had the strength to explore all the nooks and crannies!
Definitely recommended.
P. A.
It was a cold, wet and windy day in March and there was a lot of road works going on but it's still worth a visit.
D. A.
Holyrood palace up to the castle with lots of great building s and shops in-between... amazing place
A. G.
Look around before you overpay for wool products. You can buy same items at almost 50 to 66 percent of the pricey places. This place is crazy with large amount of entertainment during the Fringe Festival. Not sure how it is otherwise.
S. T.
Beautiful beautiful street! You can just walk down and look at all the beautiful buildings. It takes you back in time and you can totally imagine yourself in all the stories that must have happend there. There are some really great pubs and restaurants you can visit!
J. B.
Very atmospheric, loads of shops, bars, and exciting places.
M. K.
That's an amazing place, a part of an old town where're lovely stuff going on!
S. H.
Fantastic architecture and lots of great shops and restaurants etc on the walk to the castle
n. S.

B. “. R. T. R.
It's awesome unless you live there
J. E.
Not too crowded. Fun little shops and amazing restaurants
F.
Famous highway in Edinburgh for easy access to the castle. Lined with many tourist shops and intriguing alleyways, all worth a look.
J. N.
Very nice walking place in Scotland:)
M. B. T.
A must see, besides a good way to walk off all the shortbread and fudge, the architecture and history really is something to take in... We watched the changing of the guards, the crowds are a bit challenging but that goes with the territory. Walk it a few times if you can..
C. R.
Lovely part of town, recommend the Edinburgh Museum 👌
C. F.
Buzzing with Fringe acts. Well organised with the local council. Very clean. Love it!! #bigupedinburgh
E. G.
This place was amazing from shops, to very talented street performers, and don't forget the stunning architecture. The only thing I didn't enjoy was just how crazy busy of people it got between 11.00 am and 3.00, but if you don't mind crowds you won't have a problem
S. M.
Best street in Edinburgh. To see more photos please visit my Instagram page@scottstravelphotos
M. P.
Lots of things to do, lots of history need a good day to visit every thing.
Castle, city underneath, grey friers Bobbi

Great for walking around.
J. A.
So much to do. Shops, restaurants, and pubs. We took The World Famous Underground Ghost Tour. Our guide, Dr. Knox was a fantastic guide.
s. s.
Nice busy road in front of Edinburg castle . You can find very old shops on Royal mile ,pavement is beautiful. You can buy different types of souvenir, liquor. Lots of foods caffe and eateries are available on road. Many people are doing magic or roadshow in between
D. W.
The Royal mile is an experience all to itself. You can soak up the history and architecture without having to send a penny. For those who want food and drink there is a fanatic selection of pubs and restaurants to get at. For those more history inclined there are plenty of tours and free historical buildings to explore. You can't experience Edinburgh without doing the royal mile.
T. J.
Take in the history along the Royal Mile from the castle to the Scottish Parliament
S. C.
We visited during the Edinburgh fringe festival and there were regular free Street acts performing - piano, singing, magicians etc. This made the visit fun. Otherwise the Total Mile is a commercial Street full of tootsy shops and restaurants. It's better to look up and marvel at the Georgian buildings and the vertiginous cliff faces under the castle. This is the route into the castle although there are plenty step paths. Visit the grassmarket square next door for cafes.
R. T.
Just as is. To meny people's to easy walk. And this Scottish weather....
B.
Such a historic and beautiful place, with so many amazing shops, bars and restaurants.
s.
I love Scotland, one of the best places I've ever been to, i play forza horizon 4 and I drive around Edinburgh and come up the golden mile. Its so nice, and not too busy in the morning either.
S. F.
Lovely city with lots to see and do

Worth the walk. Point is not to be distracted by the tourist stuff, but to explore the little roads at the whole stretch. That's mean 3 hrs or more!! Went down to the parliament house and what what a secenery with Authur hill in the …
J. H.
Amazing place and still did not see it all but a lot of repeat shops up and down the Royal Mile
M. L.
Probably one of the prettiest walking streets of the world! Can certainly recommend prancing through :)

Great during the festival, lots of side shows. Some good shops many seem to be aimed at tourists. Lots of pubs supplying food and drink, a very wide choice.
R. A.
Lovely place, lovely people... lots of amazing history. Plenty of things to see and do. Lots of lovely places to eat.
Will definitely be going back and would certainly recommend a visit.

Lovley place and lots to see
B. W.
Somehow you just end up back on the royal mile whatever you do, it has a lot of interesting things on it such as camera obscura and world of illusions, and of course leads up to Edinburgh Castle.
L. 6.
From the castle to Holyrood Palace, a street packed with a great atmosphere ( when times get better for us all ).
Plenty nice places for something to eat.
But, far to many gift shop's, all selling the same stuff ( tartan tat ).
Enjoyable though.
Highly recommend a visit, but be warned about the gift shop's.
P. M.
Very clean and looked after. Many old Buildings to see includuding Castle.
A. D.
Beautiful walk from Palace of Holyroodhouse to Edinburgh Castle
I. K. (.
Great hike, towards the scotch whisky experience and Edinburgh castle, there’s much to see and do. Free ghost tours, Edinburgh tours and Harry Potter tours which is very family friendly, a friendly place all round.
M. B.
Main old town shopping, street leads directly to Edinburgh Castle, Whisky Experience, Camera Obscura and more. Also several tourism information centres here for info and tickets. Lots of small shops selling tartan and cashmere products and whisky (never realised there were so many brands), and lots of small pubs many having a wide selection of whisky's and some offering haggis, neaps and tatties (that's haggis, turnips or swede and potatoes). Royal Mile has many alleys off, with further shops. Very little wet weather cover so take a brolley. Most important, the street is cobbled with little flat paving, so flip flops are a very bad idea! Wear heavier shoes unless you want to feel the pain!
S. O.
Great selection of shops and a lovely park to sit and relax in
K.
Lots to see though a bit touristy in places there is a great sense of the real Scotland and beautiful architecture.
C. S.
Great tourist district in Edinburgh, leading to the castle.
A. C.
Lots of lovely little shops and cafes. Unique shopping experience.
S. H.
Amazing architecture. Lots if shopping for gifts
E. S.
Well worth the trip. Had an amazing time.
G. H.
Lots of tourist tat but with highlights along the way. Entertaining street buskers etc. Take a tour and find the Heart of Midlothian and other fascinating facts. Seens much longer than a mile when it's hot and you are heading uphill. Look out for the camera Obscura and do visit if time permits.
P. D.
Edinburgh is a must place to visit plenty to see and the food in the restaurants are great and the Scottish people are fantastic make you feel very welcome and are very helpful would I go again... Next visit booked.

A. C.
Love the place the architecture is amazing 👍
R. P.
Beautiful place for the locals to rip off the tourists. Every thing costs, and even when you do pay you have to check your change.
D. H.
Very good tourist area. Plenty to see. If visiting this has to be centre-piece.
R. R.
Nice short walk through some places of interest up until the castle
I. S.
Lovely walk, very cultural city, great restaurants, pubs, if lucky you will get a free live music
V. B.

A. B.
Heart of the old town part of Edinburgh. The cobbled street and the alleys on both sides enables you to take a glimpse into history.
This place is full of shops and restaurants.
B. D.

Beautiful part of Edinburgh with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Usually buzzing with tourists and locals enjoying the area.

We love coming up to Edinburgh & walking The Royal Mile, to the Amazing Castle.
J. V.
A long road between Hollyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle full of shops, restaurants, pubs, churches, street buskers, et al. A nice Interesting walk.
J. G.
Absolutely stunning place to visit. Enjoyed to bits.
ד. י. מ.
Beautiful street, suitable for a short 3-4 hours trip, nice cafes and bars
R. M. F.
Vibrant place, impressive architecture with character. Great to visit, eat out but not after 6. Actually from 5.30 you are turned down by restaurants, basically instead of having dinner in a beautiful place you will have to go to sainsbury's to grab a sandwich. I am stunned how they refuse the tourists ' money. All Europe has restaurants opened up to 22.00 or even later, just UK invites its tourists to go to sleep, not spend money on food, drinks or nonsense like these. As a tourist, you want to go out every dinner and stay late, just saying!
N. P.
Beautiful part of the city of Edinburgh. Lots of little independant shops to explore
M. k.
1st visit to Edinburgh, stunning place, will return.
R. B.
Probably seen it as at its best. Because of COVID-19 it was very quiet.
Z. O.
A very good location. Well organised interior. Nice kitchen.
M. L.
Probably one of the prettiest walking streets of the world! Can certainly recommend prancing through :)
A. N.
Beautiful area and a nice walk to Edinburgh Castle.
m. d.
Great place for a day out, very animated street with nice restaurants, coffee shops, and outfits. Once there must visit the castle and taste the delicious ice cream from the ice cream van.
J. D.
A historc area equipped with street entertainers, bagpipe players, coffee shops, cafes and shops, you'll notice the road closure in the photo as they were filming Fast and Furious 9 at the time just behind me.
I. I.
You can't say nothing bad about Edinburgh... Every corner, Every street it's a attraction!!!
J. W.
Lovely place to visit very interesting sights to see
T. J.
Love the royal Mile, it is full of Scottish culture and lots of fun, friendly faces. There is lots to do up and down the mile. With hotels, tourist attractions, pubs, gift shops and lots more. I would highly recommend visiting to see it all. It is easily accessible by all inc wheelchairs and prams. There isn't a public toilet as far as I'm aware however there's lots of establishments happy to accommodate.
Z. L.
Really nice for old buildings and a lot of Historical stuff nice shops some with great little bargains and a great range of tour Buses
M. G.
If you want food, tartan or a tour guide, this is the place to be
D. T.
Beautiful historic street, good mix of shops but avoid the cheap and tacky souvenir outlets. Some great pubs, cafes and restaurants, there's history everywhere, from Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament to Edinburgh Castle, this is the ancient heart of urban Scotland. If you're visiting Edinburgh this is where you should start.
P. K. M.
Not suitable for people with walking difficulty as it's quite steep
Apart from that great nick nack shops cafes and history abounds.
Nice wide walkways slow speed limits for cars enty of places to sit and rest while people watching
The castle at one end and the scotish parliament at the other well worth the walk if you can cope with the different gradiands
c.
Amazing place every shop you can imagine. I'm looking forward to the Xmas Market on fri
e. p.
Lovely atmosphere a bag piper playing by castle castle itself was fascinating
Dispute being ordered to wear a mask inside by nicola(wee cranky) storm troopers. also inside
some shops when it is a personal choice not law takes the Michael a bit. Spoilt the day abit too.
b. p.
Liked the historic buildings, not so keen on the Tartan Tat shops all selling the same cheap rubbish with a bit of tartan on it. Beginning to look a bit grubby.
J. w.
The buildings in edinburugh are a joy to walk past and admire.
D. K.
A real treat for travellers, lot of food shops, restaurants and local stuff
P. G.
A great time to spend your day. Good atmosphere with plenty to see and visit I.e John knox house, Print House from Outlander if a fan, Cemetery where a number of important names in history have tomb stones set out for them etc. Plus big names such as the castle, Mary kings close to name but a few.
G. P.
Fantastic place for a wander around even for a Glaswegian in Edinburgh.
H. J.
Great walk through Edinburgh's Old Town
D. C.
Nice sunny day walk down the mile from the Castle, plenty food & drink choices, plenty shops with quality goods. However, the choice of Cashmere goods is amazing & the other half spent lots of money so i won't be back for a while 😁😁
A. K.
Visited during the festival which made this old city more interesting
B. W.
Lots of lots of whisky waiting for you to buy here!!!!
J. T.
A bustling but very accessible area of Edinburgh with many shops brimming with Scottish goods ranging from the usual tack to premium clothing and alcoho. Well worth a visit.
G. S.
The Royal Mile is exceptional in every way, cobbled streets, boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, bars etc. I highly recommend you go there if you are in Edinburgh!
M. G.
Lots of little shops to poke around in. Go down the little alleyways and find interesting things
T. G.
Great place to visit and admire some of the architecture and historical buildings. Lots of bars/restaurants and gift shops and leads nicely to Edinburgh Castle.
A. O.
A nice place for walking and shopping
A. A.
A buzzing Edinburgh street, lots of Fringe performances and tourist shops.
C. L. T.
What an enchanting and amazing Street this is. One cannot go to Edinburgh without strolling along this wonderful street :)
L. B.
Lots to do and see! Spent about three hours just walking up and back. Stopped in the tollhouse tavern for a pint. Loved it!
a. s.
It's a Burger King.....what more can you say? Kiosk remote ordering, prompt delivery of the order, clean and tidy, including the toilets, but otherwise completely devoid of personality like any fast food joint.
T. F.
Very beautiful region, with many old buildings, sometimes even scary.
S. A.
If you're in Edinburgh, it is definitely a must to go! The Royal Mile is the historic centre of the city. Close to the Royal Mile, you can also find two wonderful streets: Cockburn Street and Victoria Street.
K. K.
Delicious food (Lamb Shank and Haggies/ Scottish Eggs and Toffee Pudding) Yammi... Professional Service....got a table without reservation within minutes...well done ;)
C. M.
Street theatre artists were generally very good. The shops however, are fine as long as you want to buy woollen goods.
D. D.
A must visit when in Scotland.
V. S.
Very nice and busy street, many options
J. V. O.
A picturesque street and interesting to explore the closes. Very touristy and crowded at the top, gets better the further down you get.
A. M.
A lot of souvenir and whisky shops
n. c.
Edinburgh Old Town. Very interesting. A must see. Guide walks will give you insight of the Royal Mile
D. T.
Overcrowded in month of August. Do take time to visit saint gilis cathedral. Avoid visiting attractions during these months.
R. W.
Always great to have a walk down and stop off in all the historic pubs
S. G.
It's a must visit area, but it's mobbed. Lots to see, loads of live acts, but if you want to sit down for food or drink then there are better places
S. M.
I have always enjoyed going to market street during the fringe festival, it's always filled with enjoyment and entertainment during August. It's the best place to spend your summer, although during off peak times it's a little empty but that's not always a bad thing. The old streets and telephone boxes are worth a look, this street is one of the best streets in edingbrough, other then princess street, market street and portobello. It's a wonderful place to enjoy. During the festival keep safe and follow covid regulations
A. B.
This is a superb street in the city centre of Edinburgh. There's plenty of interesting gothic buldings as well as shops. Street artists are often performing magic tricks, singing or playing bagpipes. It's as Scottish as it gets
J. W.
Third visit to this Amazing City. Already organising our next. It is a Shopper's haven. History walks and bus journeys are very interesting and informative. Would recommend this place.
