Reviews of The Scotch Whisky Experience
I. B.
Getting the gold tour was one of the best experiences I've had in Edinburgh.
I really enjoyed the barrel ride and how they explained the whisky making process. The tour guide was fantastic, and she explained the 5 areas of scotch whisky with great detail on the flavour profiles and location.
Only thing I'd improve is more interactivity in the whisky tasting as the extra amount paid for the gold tour doesn't seem too worth it as we were left to our own when tasting the whisky at the end.
However, I'd still highly recommend going if in Edinburgh but go for the silver tour.
Overall = 8/10
S. M.
What a brilliant experience. Did the platinum tour, pricey but a great experience if you like whisky. The tour guide was brilliant - I don't recall her name but a lovely lady with dark hair who knew her whisky!
The barrel ride to begin with was amazing I loved it, really informative and fun. The whisky tasting itself was also a great experience, and the room with the whisky collection is just beautiful! Also loved the freebie nosing glass and whisky map at the end. I loved the experience from start to finish, would highly recommend.
S. K.
A very nice experience for people who want to know more about Scotch and how it gets its distinct flavours. With the gold package worth 32 pounds you get to taste 5 different scotch whiskeys and you get a free whiskey glass. The collection in the whiskey museum is impressive. Recommended!
S. B.
A superb insight to the history and the process of making Scotch Whiskey. The whole experience from the barrel ride through to the tastings is excellent and so well choreographed. The tour guides are very knowledgeable, helpful and fun! The shop has a vast selection of Whiskey for all budgets right up to the 50 year old Glenfiddich for a mere £26,000. Well worth taking the time to visit.

This was a very fun experience, great for learning about Scotch Whisky and having my first taste of whisky. The silver tour was worth the price and you get to keep your tasting glass following the tasting session. Kev was a great your guide making it engaging and interesting. I would definitely recommend doing a tour here if you visit Edinburgh!
Z. B.
Fun whiskey tour that teaches you more about Scottish whiskey, how it's made, and flavors to expect from each origin of Scotland. If you don't have time to see all the distilleries this is a great way to get a taste from all the regions. The barrel ride was broken as the holograms and videos didn't always show up. The tour guide was great and answered all questions. The bottle collection was also extraordinary. I'd get the gold tour again as I enjoyed trying all the regions of Scottish whiskey. You also get a whiskey glass with the tour.

We had an amazing experience! The silver tickets were worth it. The silver tier includes an interactive whisky making tour which I thought could have been better. They have invested a lot into getting the infrastructure right. But I thought the voiceover was not very clear in the beginning mainly because I could hear my fellow tourists talking. What followed on after the interactive experience was a great video showcase followed by a tasting experience (You can select the whisky of your choice). The private collection was fantastic.

Bought tickets in advance, but we were able to get in early. We weren't sure what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. We got the silver tour, which started with a ride in a whisky barrel through a "theater" which explained the process of whisky making. We've been on several distillery tours, so this was fun and unique. We then went into a room where the different regions/flavors of Scotland were explained with a scratch and sniff card followed by a tasting from the region of our choice or a blend. The tour finished in the "best room in the world", a private collection of nearly 4000 bottles of whisky. Great tour if whether or not you're a whisky lover (I am not).
J. O.
When I went to the SWE in Edinburgh, I opted for the silver experience and wish I had gone for the gold, but I had limited time due to a dinner engagement after (next visit!) - everything is so well arranged, you go through a slow-moving barrel train with a multimedia show on the walls all about the distillation process of whisky. The host then explained the five regions of whisky production with their distinct flavours (notes), after which we tried a dram of our preferred type and saw an extensive array of thousands of whisky bottles in a room. The gift shop has plenty to offer as well, including shortbread...nice accompaniment to whisky.
D. H.
We chose the gold tour on the scotch experience which was fab! The virtual whisky barrel tour was a fun and novel experience and I really loved the theater of the whole tour. Our guide Chris was enthusiastic and informative and made it a really special experience. We got to sample a good few whisky's and the knowledge of the bar team was great, it really made the experience.
💰Price:££ it was a fairly pricey experience but you do get a lot for your money. It's worth it if you're a whisky lover.
👩👩👧 Family Friendly: Only really worth it for adults but I know on the website they do allow kiddies in and are provided with iron brew.
🐕 Dog Friendly: No
🙋🏽♀️Staff: Fantastic staff, really friendly and knowledgeable, shout out to Chris our tour guide.
🚾Toilet Facilities: M & F separate
☕ Refreshments: coffee shop and restaurant on site.
🌐WiFi: yes
👩🏾🦽 Accessibility: wheelchair accessible
🌧️☀️ Season/ weather: all indoors so good for a rainy day

Amazing experience! The tour was so great ! In the tour you will sit on a barrel look like train that will go you through the process of distillation. After that you will taste 5 different whiskeys and watch a video explanation about the types of grain. Definitely the best whiskey experience! You can also buy whiskeys or memorabilia. There is also a restaurant named "amber".
R. D.
We really loved this experience. Even my sister, who doesn't like whisky, enjoyed it! The initial barrel ride and multimedia presentation is very polished. Our guide was very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. We did the silver tour and you get to keep your glass afterwards. I learned so much about whisky production and the different areas in Scotland and how and why they differ in taste. The scratch card to help you select the one region you wanted to same was very novel. The private collection is very impressive.
A. G.
This was my first visit to the Scotch Whisky Experience. I was not disappointed! I only had time to do one of the experiences so I chose the Tasting Tales which is a trial of four whiskys matched with four Irish foods and I was very impressed. The host gave excellent information about each of the whiskys and foods as well as Scotch whisky making history and the process. Highly recommended!
W.
Great tour about Scotch whiskey. I went in knowing nothing about whiskey and left knowing a general overview of how It's made and what makes Scotch whiskey so awesome. The barrel ride was fun and engaging.
There was also a pleasant surprise at the end! We were allowed to keep the cup.
g. m.
Great tour with really friendly and knowledgeable guide. We opted for the £32 tour which involved tasting the regional variations of Scotch Whisky available. This is a much better option than the basic tour. This in my opinion is a must do for anyone interested in the history of whiskey/whisky. You also get to keep the Glencairn whisky glass in a little souvenir box. Great view from the tasting area.
M.
The scotch whisky experience is a must! The barrel ride was incredible.. super informative and fun. Defiantly worth checking out to learn more about Scottish whisky 🥃
G. D.
If you are visiting Edinburgh and want to know more about the history and scotch and how it is made one must try the scotch your. They will explain you all the process. It's a great experience for the scotch lovers and much recommend. You will also get to taste one scotch if you have Silve ticket and 4 different scotch if you have gold ticket. They will explain the difference regions of the scotch made in Scotland and their smell and taste distinguishing properties. I enjoyed it a lot.
G. B.
I had a lovely experience here. It starts of with a sort of ride, which guides you through the whole process of making whisky. You can choose your own language for that part (and most languages were available).
After the ride you get a card with 5 different smells from the five different areas of whisky. This is combined with a video / presentation by the guide.
After that you’ll get your taster. With some explanation, you’ll choose which whisky you’d like to try.
And then finally in the last room (the vault) you’ll learn how to properly drink a whisky (colour, smell, taste etc). After that, the tour ends.
Except for when you’ve got the gold tour, in that case you’ll have four more tasters.
I would highly recommend to do this experience when in Edinburgh!
C. H.
I went on the silver tour for £32 which had a total of 5 tastings. I very much enjoyed the tour, it was really informative and explained the different whiskies from different regions. The tasting was arranged in order of peatiness, the first two were the only ones I could completely drink as I'm not a fan of peaty whiskies but I enjoyed a small taste of the peaty ones.
D. T.
Great even for people who are not whiskey enthusiasts. It's also good for families. The barrel ride (first part) was more like for children and kind of boring. You have one taste of whiskey from region of your choice as part of the silver package, and 4 additional in the gold package. Overall a very nice experience.
S. M.
Highly recommended if you're an avid Whisky fan or didn't manage to visit any distillerys . The tour is informative. Part of it was done via a video and another is a presentation explaining about single malt and the process of making them and the types according to the region in Scotland. At the end you'll be able to view the largest private showcase of Whisky in the world. And you'll be in a testing room testing your chosen Whisky. For 19£ you'll just test one. But for more you'll get more. The staff was incredibly friendly and explained alot more than what was needed to make us understand what were drinking. My love for single malt and blended Whisky has increased after this . Recommended. But make sure you book your tickets in advance.
J.
Yes, the ride is a little gimmicky, but it keeps the experience light hearted, and the guides do a good job with the entire tasting experience. I would definitely recommend this to a friend. Plus, you get to try several whiskies! (Depending on which your level you booked)
M. B.
I expected this to be incredibly cheesy and then get some tastings at the end. It was all that but so much more! Our guide Susan was absolutely amazing! Well informed, engaging, and an wonderful person. Even helped to give us tips on which distilleries to visit on our drive up to the Highlands. 11/10 would recommend!
R. F.
I loved the experience. The host was great in explaining the making of whisky. There was s slight hiccup at the start with some technical malfunctions but they quickly made up for it with a complimentary dram! Great staff, absolutely recommend.
Y. S.
Very informative and fun experience. The organization is very efficient and professional. My flight was cancelled so had to reschedule the tour which went very smoothly. I took the Gold tour - only difference with the Silver tour is you will get 4 more whiskies to taste in the end (with Silver and Gold, everyone will get one), so you can choose the tour depending on what you like.
L. G.
Had a wonderful tour with our tour guide Kev. Would advise to do the gold tour, so you can taste 4 different whiskeys at the end. Everything is fully explained and showed on how the Whiskey is made and how the different whiskeys taste throughout the country
s.
What a fabulous experience. We had a guide, Lucy, who was passionate about the whiskey and her knowledge was outstanding. We booked well in advance and toured with around 14 others. We were able to sample five whiskeys from all over Scotland. With lucy' s knowledge and her explanations of the whiskey we sampled it made for a very entertaining and enjoyable experience. We had also booked a tasting menu after the tour, the food was, like the tour, outstanding. Every dish was fully explained and desert came with our final whiskey of the evening. I can highly recommend this tour even if you don't like whiskey, my wife is a non whiskey drinker, I know it's disappointing but that does mean more for me!!!! Having said that she really enjoyed the experience and learnt a great deal. Thanks to all involved.
О. С.
Mad journey in a big barrel and a bit bored lecture with cinema show, but it's worth to endure these because of the last part - whisky testing. Tremendous collection of whisky bottles and a big shop in the end. But buy the tickets beforehand through internet, there are many people, and they usually don't have free places.
J. S.
Did the gold tour was a fantastic experience. Highly recommended if you are visiting Edinburgh just a few minutes walk from many great attractions. Knowledgeable tour guide happy to answer any questions.
l. b.
Definitely a must visit in Edinburg . A very educative tour where you learn a lot of scotch whiskey history . The tour guide Max is very knowledgeable and make the whole tour interesting as well
M. D.
This place is pretty much heaven for whiskey lovers.
The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly and the whiskey cabinet room will have you in awe. If I could ever be trapped in one room in an apocalypse this would be it 😍
P.
What a great time!
Very very knowledgeable whisky aficionados brought out samplings and made some great recommendations.
Dinner was great. I'm skeptical of dinners for groups the size of ours but they knocked it out of the park.
This is a great place and strongly recommend you stop here!

Great whisky experience. They do a great presentation involving the different senses. Gives a great understanding of the different flavours from different areas of Scotland. We did the gold one and this involved 5 different tastings, one all together and then the other 4 was self tasting, with tasting card. There is a massive collection of whisky on display from one collector.
L. M.
We had a great experience on the platinum tour. The tour itself was a little cheesy but fun. For those who aren't familiar with the process of making scotch, the various regions of where scotch is produced, it was very informative.
Our tour guide, Lucy, was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. She did a great job guiding us through our tasting and had fun and interesting stories to share about each distillery that she personally selected for our group. This was a great way to get exposed to the world of scotch and all the different regions. That being said, if if you are a seasoned scotch drinker, this may not be for you as it is a pretty broad overview.
P. S.
A great experience to really learn more about the whisky, we book the platinum tour for 90 min and 5 tastings. The guide was knowledgeable and really nice.
R. Y.
All the staff were incredible! I am not a whiskey drinker but Mike made it downright enjoyable… I learned so much and it was so much fun… Susan was amazing and helping me get in on the tour when it looked like all the tickets were sold out… And Eva In the sales shop afterwards stayed with me and help me select a number of gifts to take home even though they were closing… Can’t say enough good things… Definitely go!
K. N.
Love the experience! Didn't expect the ride
Whiskeys given for tasting are good, and they give you the tasting glass!
Need to commend Lewis for giving us a wonderful and memorable experience. Really exudes eloquence and presentations were so fun
R. D.
Fun and comprehensive experience for veteran and novice scotch drinkers. Presenter was humorous and informative. Massive scotch collection was impressive. Tasting room was the highlight of the visit. Enjoy. Immediately outside the entrance to Edinburgh Castle.
D. M.
If you love whisky, you should enjoy the tour and experience. The vault especially was a sight to behold.
The Gold tour gets you 4 samples at the end. During the tour you get 1 sample. If you choose the Campbelltown option during the tour then, including the 4 at the end, you'll be able to try a dram from each of the 5 regions.
Not too expensive and was a great way to spend a bit of time in the older part of town.
S. H.
As someone who isn't a big fan of whisky, I still really enjoyed this tour. It was a bit cheesy at times with videos, anomatronics and a barrel ride, but in the end, we came away knowing a lot more about how whisky is made and the different regions of scotlands influence on the flavour. We went for the silver package, tasting just 1 whisky at the end which was the perfect amount for us. The staff were lovely and helpful the whole tour! There was also a great selection of whiskies in the shop so we could take home a few taster bottles.

Make your way here as one of your first stops in Edinburgh.
I don't want to spoil the surprise but suffice to say, this tour includes an amusement ride, education, breathtaking views, opticle illusions, scratch and sniff, an impressive collection and of course...... Whiskey.
Scotch to be exact. There's a record setting collection on site, a tasting room, restaurant and gift shop/ liquor store.
Ask for Kev. I'm sure the other your guides are great, but they're not Kev.
Bring the kids. They can enjoy the ride and education and even get an IrnBru (it's not alcohol) for their tasting option.
We did the Gold Tour, for a few extra dollars you get a flight of Speyside, Islay, Highland and Lowlands single malt.
M.
A must visit attraction to do. You don’t need to be drinker to enjoy full experience, it’s all about the history, the collection, the staffs qualifications, the technology involved to explain every single detail that worth visiting here.
A. A.
What can I say. The BEST IN TOWN, period. I love how great and amazing the atmosphere is. How clean the place, customer service is awesome. Lots of options available for drinks to buy. Definitely recommend to visit if coming to Edinburgh. Pricing is the same on the Royal Mile
N. T. D.
A great experience to learn more about Scotisch whisky! You start off with a fun barrel ride during which you get explained how whisky is made. Then you get a short presentation about the different kinds of whisky, the different single malts. In a beautiful tasting room the blended whiskies are explained and the tasting it self happens amids an enourmous collection of old whisky bottltes. Depending on the tour you book, you can taste more whisky afterwards. You get to keep the whisky glass. All in all a great experience and good value for money.
Only point of critique would be that you are seriously rushed through the experience. I would have loved a few extra minutes at each part to take it all in.
S. S.
A to Z explanation of the making and history of Scotch whisky. Presenters are super nice and clearly love their work. Mini tasting at the end you get to pick your favourite flavour profile.
(If you get the gold package you get 4-5 samplings)
P.
Great evening tour. Had the Gold ticket. 5 tastings of whiskey. Tour was excellent and very good tourguide, Paschal. A must if in Edinburgh!
A. N. K.
He had a good time with this Whiskey experience. Not only with the explanation of the history and the making process, also and specially with the tasting. The tasting process was great following the paper with Instructions as you can see in the pics. However, with a proper staff member going through it would have been the extra Mille. Anyway, for once in life is worth it and I learnt a lot from it. If you visit Edinburg it is a must as it is placed just literally next to the castle.
D. P.
in the absence of an actual distillery the tour is really great
from sitting in a barrel to riding through the process!
the whisky collection is simply mind blowing
and the blender's room is epic!
very interesting venue
the tour guide was very approachable and friendly
the gift shop has loads of whiskys and not only
K. T.
A great scotch whisky "experience". Insight into how whisky is made, matured, blended and distilled and the impart of knowledge into the 5 distinct varieties of scotch whisky. The gold ticket gets a comprehensive and entertaining insight, plus an education in tasting, plus a relaxed 4 variety tasting session to follow. In addition there are polite, well informed staff with excellent presentation skills, and a well stocked shop at the end. If you like the odd scotch whisky I cannot recommend this highly enough.
N. C.
Great shop with an extensive collection of whiskey of all the brands and sizes. Although it looks like a tourist trap, I have to say that prices are aligned with the market and sometimes they're even cheaper that other shops.
Store assistants are extremely polite and will help you answer all of your question. Please note they you won't be able to try anything before buying.
H. S.
Wow
The richness
The audacity of priced bottles
The intention to sell and the ambience
Wine to divine
Best surprise for spirit lovers
Absolutely breathtaking
Must visit
❤❤❤
Value for money with all the options at display with an option to taste as many as 5.
C. T. T.
Very fun and educational tour with Kev as our guide. If you're not fluent in Scotch whiskey, or even if you are, this is a great place to visit and learn more about the ins and outs as well as have the opportunity to taste!
Highly recommend!
K. v. D.
Brilliant experience from A to Z. Highly recommended to choose the golden tour. Loved every minute. Mike our guide made a difference telling the story in a humorous way. Thanks!
J. M.
From the start, this was a great experience. I've always enjoyed whiskey but now I know exactly what region suits my palate best. We purchased the gold tour which meant after the tour we got to sit down and enjoy a taster as well as keep our Glencarin glass. Along with the gold tour we are whiskey appreciation members which gives us a discount on full-size bottles; I live in the UK so that works perfectly for me. The tour is great, would highly recommend as it takes you through the whiskey making process - this is a must-see when you visit Edinburgh.
A. K.
Great experience and a must visit if you love whiskey, and wish to understand the dynamics of the distillation process.
We took the silver tour that included 45 min tour including the whiskey vault plus tasting whisky of your type.
I throughly enjoyed it!!
S.
I totally recomend to make a stop in this wonderful place. You can take a tour and learn so much about whisky 😍😍😍. After or before, you can have lunch at the ir restaurant and it is great aswell!!! 👏👏
J. S.
Visited the whisky experience today as I birthday gift from my girlfriend.
Amazing place , very informative about how the whisky is made , the tour guide ( Kevin ) was very knowledgeable about the whisky and the ones we tasted .
The collection of whiskys in the vault is every man's dream .
And we also had food in the restaurant , very nice tapas style ( I have fish allergies ) so other options were given to me .
All in all a great day out for the whisky lover .
H. B.
Visited here with a silver ticket for the tour, ended up upgrading to the gold level as door staff and first impressions was so good. My partner doesnt drink whisky so gave me her share that is a bonus.
K. L.
A must see. Great tasting session and a must for anyone, drinker or not! You learn the basic of whiskey and then drink it!
A. B.
Amazing experience. We went with our three kids and they also had a great time! The staff were very knowledgeable and kind, they went out of their way to help us take pictures and made sure our kids had a great time as well. Lucy N was our guide and she was wonderful! The kids are offered a local soda so they feel included in the tasting. The ride in the beginning is great and the tour after was filled with fun facts. Definitely a must do!
K. P.
The ride could to some seem a little childish especially if you've been to other whisky distillery tours, but bear with it as the room with all the whiskies in it is a sight to behold! The staff performing the tours are very informative and friendly (we had Mike)and the tasting session at the end superb, with an excellent selection of whiskies chosen and tasting notes given.
M. S.
We've once been on distillery tour but nothing to compare with this one. Loads of knowledge, very interesting even for someone who is not a massive fan of whiskey. Ride in barrel is quite fun
H. W.
I'm a whisky lover but wasn't aware of this until arriving in Edinburgh. A last minute booking was the best decision I made. Our tour guide was Jethro and he was so enthusiastic and excited by whisky it radiated through the group. Not only did I learn new things about the production and regions of scotch whisky, it's made me want to explore more. I did the gold tour, and for an extra 4 tastings, I felt this was definitely worth it.
N. J.
One the best lifetime experience at Edinburgh. Would recommend everyone to go for the tour and book ur tickets ahead on get your guide. Recommend golden tour
W. D.
A group of friends visited and it was perfect to pass an hour staff were very helpful and friendly, went through all yhe options available the experience we chose lasted approximately 1 hour, which includes some of the history of whisky production, a interactive screening of the different regions of scotch whisky production and the various different types of whisky produced, your given a little scratch and smell card to help you understand the difference in aromas from each region, you also get a whisky sample which you choose from the different regions and finally you get a chance to see one of yhe largest whisky collections ever assembled, there's a nice retail space also with a large selection of whisky in large or miniature bottles and a selection of merchandise
W. G.
Definitely touristy, but totally worth it. Our guide was great, spoke loud and clear. The "ride" was just okay, but was a cool way to start the tour. My favorite part was the explanation of single malt and blended whiskys. We were also happy to have paid the little extra for the gold tour to try 4 other whiskys and spend some extra time in the tasting room. Speyside Whisky for the win.
T. E.
This experience was super cool! We tasted 5 whiskies, which were delicious, but the history, information, and tasting tips and tricks were what made this worth it. Our guide was Nicola and she was amazing! 5 stars for Nicola alone.. but we did speak to another traveler who had a different guide and said his tour was excellent as well.
G. H.
Great experience. Edinburgh doesn’t have a distillery inside city centre. There’s loads of shops though that sell whisky and a really big whisky store on Princes street but it’s a one brand shop.
I. S.
It was an overall good experience. The barrel ride experience and the visual effects in the tasting room were both impressive. The collection of whisky was just astounding. The only reason why I rated 4 was because I took the gold tour and knowing the big difference vs the silver tour, I was a bit disappointed that the only difference was being served 4 other whisky to taste (the serving were very little amounts, probably half a shot or less). For a gold tour I would have expected more explanation and discussion but I was just left alone on the side figuring it out on my own with a printed guide.
n. s.
Great interactive tour that’s conveniently located next to the castle. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Would be enjoyed by both novices and connoisseurs.
J. F.
Really nice experience, and even for those don't like whisky still an enjoyable tour. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.
M. A.
The first half of the experience is the barrel ride where you're taken through the process of how whisky is made. There is then the interactive presentation of the whisky regions which was great. After that you visit the world's largest collection of whisky which is incredible. I would highly recommend the gold tour as you get a flight of whiskies to taste at the end for just a little bit more. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. I would highly recommend this experience!
F. M.
This was a lovely wee tour learning about whisky and its origins. The tour guide was very informative, animated and helpful throughout! (you could tell he loved a wee dram now and again) The whisky barrel ride had a screen that wasn't working, the drone footage was stunning but left my partner feeling seasick and I wish we had spent more time being able to peruse the whisky bottle collection. However, as a whole, this was a brilliant tour and the tasting was top notch! 👏🏻 Definitely recommend!!
M. S.
My sister and I had such a wonderful time in our Gold tour with Kev. He was funny, informative, and patient to answer all questions we had. And clearly my kids’ Foxy had a lovely time too 😁
a. l.
Was a bit skeptical about the trip becoz of the price tag, but hubby is a fan of whisky so I guess we will give it a go. Fantastic whisky journey, very informative, tasteful interior decor, great selection of whiskey, stunning collection of 3400 bottles of whiskies!!! Andrew had been a great guide thru out the tour and really enjoy his company. Dining at the Amber was a fantastic one as well. Everything tastes delicious with a relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. I highly recommend this tour to those who love whiskey.
G. F.
A great experience filled with interesting anecdotes and genuine knowledge about whisky. It was very well controlled with covid procedures in place and I never felt at risk at any point. We were guided by Jethro who was a great laugh and knew his whisky.
I hoped to taste some interesting whisky and, whilst we did taste some distilleries I've not tried, it was mostly NAS and no Campbeltown was included for it being "too small", which was a shame. Not the end of the world obviously and the whisky presented was geared towards introduction to the golden nectar, but for me personally I would have fancied a more challenging or potent display of each region rather than the gateway.
Top stuff regardless :)
p. p.
Wonderful experience for tourists who want to learn about whisky.
My wife and I went here while visiting Scotland on holiday. We didn't know much about Scottish whisky so we figured we'd give this place a go. We went for the "Gold Experience" which includes 4 additional tastings at the end of the tour.
The tour started with a "Disneyland Small World" style barrel ride that takes you through the whisky making process. After that a tour guide takes you through different areas of the building to talk about the history and culture around whisky and the differences between the regional distilleries, along with a tasting session where you can sample a whisky from the region of your choice.
The centerpiece of the tour was the famous collection of vintage whisky, which was actually quite impressive. Seeing the very old bottles along with some outlandish novelty bottles was pretty fun.
And then of course, at the end, we got to try 4 more different whiskies.
This was a fun experience and a great way to spend the afternoon learning about whisky. It wasn't an activity we had planned to do, but we are glad we did.
M.
Impressive whisky collection. Staff and the tour guides were very friendly. Just a note, except that you have more whisky to taste on the golden tour, the silver tour is the same.
S. D.
Great experience and really nicely delivered. A mix of modern and traditional; visual and hands on experience. And to top it off the world's largest unopened collection of whiskey shown here was a nice atmosphere to walk through while enjoying our dram of our chosen single malt.

Must see in Edinburgh if you love whiskey or are a beginner to whiskey. Everyone can experience the way to scotch whiskey and how it became. Silver tour is great for newcomers that just wants the basics. More expensive tours can be added for more whiskey tastings
S. S.
It is my first taste tour for alcohol, so I am strongly impressed and find it is very interesting. We enjoyed the tour
R. R.
What an awesome experience! Tour and guide were great! Very fun and informative. The food and whisky selection in the restaurant downstairs were great! The shop was brilliant as well. So much variety and a great selection of whisky-related accessories. We loved it!
B. R.
A must do experience in Edinburgh if you have any interest in whisky. A knowledgeable and fun staff really teach you a great deal while exposing you to plenty of artifacts and history.
M. H.
Absolute class. Our tour guide Jim was a true character and passionate about his job. We had the gold tour and he walked us through the tastes and smells as an expert. We started on the ride which was a great way to get us immersed in the industry. Followed that with a presentation about the various whiskey makers and then the tasting. On the gold we had 5 total tasters and it was a fantastic experience
D. U. (.
Really cool and interesting. I had the gold tour and Violet was my guide. She was friendly and informative. I wasn’t a fan of all the whiskeys they served at the end of the gold tour but to each their own right? Still worth visiting - go for the silver tour if you’re not a fan of whiskey.
J.
Dove in on the spur of the moment, went for the silver, should have gone gold!
Really well put together, our guide Tom was awesome, knowledgeable and approachable. The knowledge was good and the whiskey was good better.
Only improvement I could have made was to see some actual stills, barrels and equipment in action.
Bar at the end was really good in its own right.
R. h.
I was more interested in visiting the whisky shop to check out the offerings, but, I ended up on the Gold tour (why not since I was already there?) VERY glad I did. The Tour was very informative, and we had a very entertaining time. The whisky collection room is just, incredible!! Worth a nosey round. Very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with people from far flung countries whilst sampling the whisky. Plus I was able to grab a selection of whisky's on the way out in their incredibly well stocked shop .
Y. M.
The place serves amazing whisky and the host was amazing.
His name was Kev and he was funny and thorough! Hopefully anyone who comes here can enjoy the experience as much as I did.
Their restaurant downstairs is pretty good as well and the waiters and service crew are amazing and friendly.
I’m really glad I decided to come here.
Warning! It’s a hilly place Scotland yeah.
So lord of hiking and walking, be mindful of physical condition.
:)

We did the Platinum tour experience. Would recommend for anyone who is new to whisky or for those looking to branch out from a particular region and learn about other areas. Those with a strong whisky baseline will find this tour less informative. However, regardless of your whisky level: the barrel ride was fun, and the tasting was a good comparison experience. Would recommend.
L. S.
Great experience. We had the 90 minutes tasting and it was as a great experience. We learned a lot and had fun. I would strongly recommend it even if you are not a whiskey fan.
c.
Excellent visitors attraction , well organised tours of whisky knowledge.
Good Whisky includes 😁 .
Not cheap but worth .
Very recommended.
S. B.
Really good experience. We were a bit late to get there but they were really kind to accomodate the first part of our tour (which we missed) at the end of another batch (without disruption). What we enjoyed most is the tasting experience, the short film and the whisky collection (especially the oldest bottles). Special mention to 'Lucy' who talked us through the entire tour with a real enthusiasm and humour which made it all the more entertaining. We tried the Silver tour and it was worth it.
B. C.
If you love whisky, an absolute must.
Learn the different styles of whisky and relate what you like to the area of Scotland from where it is made.
Definitley a Lowlands whisky for me from now on.
M. C.
Plenty of whisky selection in the shop, especially the tidy small “sample” size.
G. B.
Amazing place with a real education about Whiskey. Entertaining videos and scenes all the way through what even kids can enjoy while we had our tastings. They offer a HUGE range of whiskies with clear explanation and description. Staff is really helpful and always trying to advise what can be a good option for you.
Definitely revisit the place in the future.
A. K.
A great whistle stop tour of scotch whiskeys for tourists, if you do not have time to visit the actual regions of Scotland and do whiskey distillery tours. There is also a room with the worlds largest collection of whiskeys, quite a site!
B. B.
Very informative place to learn more about Whisky. Lucy the tour leader been very patient and energetic through out. We went for Silver tour which I think it is enough for beginners.
D. A.
OMG!!! Seriously can't wait to visit Edinburgh again. This was a highlight of our trip!! The staff was great and the experience was amazing. Their Scotch collection was quite impressive. Definitely recommend!!
A. I. I. R.
A-mah-zing! Wonderful experience with a lot of information, staff really do know their stuff! They were friendly, funny and very well informed! We went for the platinum experience and suggest you do too! Will definitely recommend to friends and family. ☺
B. C.
A very very fun little attraction. Definitely get the gold tour! First you ride in a whisky barrel while a ghost tells you about the brewing and distillation process. Then you get to do whisky tasting, explore a giant collection sold to the experience by a wealthy collector and retire to a bar with a massive collection of both single malt and blended scotch. There's a store attached as well with interesting selections.
C. A.
Really a great experience. A must for those who wants to have an introduction to whisky world. Thank you guys!
D. H.
Accidently stumbled across this place and really glad I did. Wasn't overly into the 'worlds largest whiskey collection' but the rest was fantastic, well put together, nicely paced and the staff knowledgeable. I'm very much into my scotch, but still left with an amount more knowledge than when I entered. Highly recommend. (We went Gold for extra tastings at the end, you'd miss out not choosing this option)
J. D.
The platinum’ tasting and dinner is a must do splurge when in Edinburgh. My family and I did this during a recent visit early
November. Jake was our tour guide and did a fabulous job. Very knowledgeable, answered all questions, and has a great sense of humor.
That Taste of Scotland dinner that followed was very very good! The haggis stuffed chicken breast was excellent. Don’t be afraid of the haggis!
Give this a try and see if you can arrange your tour with Jake.
T. E.
Beautiful whisky shop with lots of choices. Found the whisky flavour map especially interesting!
E. N.
Me and my boyfriend had the best time at The Scotch Whisky Experience during the half-term break. Great fun whether you are into whisky or not. The tour is very interactive and the best distillery type activity have been to. Our guide Ken was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend visiting 100% if in the city.
M. C.
We opted for the gold tour, which was really fun and interesting! Our guide, Holly, was amazing, knowledgeable and passionate and made the experience that much better. We got to taste 5 whiskies from each region of Scotland and left with a new found appreciation for scotch whisky. Thank you Holly and The Scotch Whisky Experience!
N. B.
I'm usually a harsh critic when I give feedback on tourist experiences - The Scotch Whisky experience was GREAT and well worth it! (price/experience)
Max was our tour guide, he was EXCELLENT!
Very professional, knowledgeable, smiling, making sure everyone had the best experience possible!
Well done Max and good luck in the future 👏
S. K.
We did Taste of Scotland where you get a course dinner at the end of the whisky tour. I am not a whisky person at all, but I learned a lot about whisky and my husband really loved it. Food was excellent. I would highly recommend to take the tour if you visit Edinburgh.
K. P.
Great way to learn about the history and differences in scotch whisky with hands on tasting, a novel barrel ride and really knowledgable staff..
When in Edinburgh the Whisky Experience has to be on of the ultimate touristy things to try. The experience includes whisky tasting with upgrade, I recommend the gold packaged as you get a selection from the different regions and not just one free dram (shot).
After a short ride explaining the history and process of Scotch whisky manufacturing there his a great over view of the regional variations in the flavour characteristics. The staff then take you on a guided tour of what the Whisky looks like in various stages of development, the blending process and then to the vault with the worlds largest collection of Scotch whisky. Then the experience kicks off with a tasting section in the bar.
g. “. T.
Lewis the tour guide was amazing every one was fabulous staff couldn’t be more helpful and most of all learned some very interesting facts about whisky and the process of making was brilliant. The whiskey collection was fascinating. Obviously not a whiskey drinker myself but my husband who would like to start drinking whisky was a fabulous birthday experience definitely recommend the gold tour. The shop staff were extremely knowledgeable and were able to recommend so amazing choices. Thank you Lewis and all the staff at the Scottish whiskey experience
v. t.
Lucy the expert presenter ensured we have an amazing experience throughout.. it was truly splendid. She knows the art quite well.
I suggest you have this scotch whisky experience once in your lifetime if you are in Scotland... You would come out with a lot about scotch whisky 🥃 for your friends
M. P.
Such a fun tour!! I am not a whiskey fan, and while this tour didn’t change that, it definitely taught me a lot about the process and drink!
It starts with the cutest educational ride that made me feel like I was at Disney! Then it gives us a really good background (in an imax style theater) on the whiskey regions and finally we got to an adorable tasting room.
I can’t recommend it enough!
N. W.
Wonderful experience and I really understand how whiskey was made and truly knows about whiskey.
J. W.
We had a great visit here. The staff were really welcoming and so knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the way they taught you about different whiskeys and of course enjoyed the tasting. It's a lovely thing to do on a short break to Edinburgh. My only tiny niggle was that we asked for the discount for being on the Edinburgh bus tour and was told it was only before 12, annoying as it was 12.30, but I accepted that as I thought I must have missed it in the small print, but when I later checked, on my bus info it said the discount applied all day. Like I say, a small thing because we still really enjoyed the tour.
R. W.
Booked gold tour, but arrived late so missed the beginning. Manager was understanding and still allowed us to have the four tasting samples and even gave us quick private tour of the collection. Great service and very knowledgeable. Shame we missed the start, but still an enjoyable experience. Had we experienced the full tour no doubt would be 5 star.
F. H.
Extremely fun! We purchased the gold pass, and the only difference is the gold pass gives you 4 more scotch tastings at the end of the tour. The experience is super fun, you start on an immersive ride to show you how it's made. Then you have a tasting room, then you get to view the biggest scotch whisky collection with over 2000 bottles!
J. B.
I really enjoyed the whole experience. It’s set-up really well with a mix of a sensory experience through storytelling and in-person tour. It’s a great way to get to know whiskey and sample some. I have been recommending it to all those I meet looking for something fun to do in Edi.
P. S.
The Whisky Collection is cool and was my highlight. The barrel ride was also better than expected. However, it felt a bit industrialized to me. If you can, visit an actual distillery. If you can’t, this is a reasonable substitute, especially for the casual Whisky beginner
M. M.
Kind of like Disneyland meets Scotch Whiskey. You start out on a short info ride about how Scotch is made then you end up in a tasting room. I'm really glad I upgraded to the Gold tour because the Silver tour you only got to try one Scotch. The Gold bumped you up to five different Scotches to try.
The restaurant on the premises is good as well, but that's another review.
J. Y.
Ambience n decorations were great at d retail shop, n d cashier was friendly n helpful🤗☺️ will definitely patronise in future
B. C.
Fantastic and a must do!
We went for the Silver Package which was just fantastic value especially knowing one of us had to drive home and the other hadn't drank Whisky before.
Holly was our tour guide and they were super friendly, informative and helpful. Holly has a vast amount of knowledge in all areas and was happy to help with any questions throughout.
I will be revisiting with friends.
E. B.
I booked the Silver tour as I know nothing about whiskey. It was a very informative experience, and I learned a lot about the different regions and types of whiskeys. You only get to taste one whiskey on the silver tour so I'd probably do the Gold tour next time just to experience some more of the different whiskeys. Really good tour, Matt was a great tour guide!
J. P.
This is a must do when in Edinburgh, even if you don't drink whiskey. The whole experience is so professionally done, a great mix of live guide and interactive theatre.
Every member of staff is polite and friendly. Absolutely loved it and the whiskey tasting was good too !
R. W.
Very cool and informative tour and lesson on the history of scotch. Enjoyed the variety of tasting at the end with the gold package
G. J.
We did the platinum tour which included 5 drams of whisky from around Scotland. The tour starts with a ride through the whisky production process- my other half described it as a Whisky Willy Wonka ride and hard to disagree.
The guide was an expert and great fun. So knowledgeable.
Just wait until you enter the final room!
Recommend the platinum tour at the end of the day so you can stagger off into the evening.
d.
Absolutely lovely tour this morning . Great venue , brilliant experience amazing knowledge and wit from our tour guide James . Left laughing and feeling like a professional whiskey taster 😂😂 . All the staff were lovely
M. T. W.
This is the best place to have scotch whisky experience Because they provide a proper scotch whisky tour. In this tour you will get to know about what how they create this scotch.
S. I.
10/10. Best experience tour. My kids paid attention on the whole tour. Excellent whiskey Tasting
M. B.
Amazing experience, must go if you love whiskey
V. P.
An amazing experience well worth the money and the people working there are very knowledgeable about scotch whisky .
t.
Great Gold tour tasting 4 different Whiskeys from around Scotland. Was a delay due to a technical issue with the ride, which I wasn't too bothered about anyway. We got a complimentary dram of whiskey due to this. Jonathan our tour guide was brilliant.
B. P.
Just finished up our class and am beyond pleased. It was a great crash course in Scottish whiskey to get you in the zone before checking out the distilleries. Highly recommended. And the shop is great.
S. M.
What a fabulous place! The tour in the barrels was very neat, with a very nice narrative and some neat special effects. Lewis greeted us after the barrels and was a wonderful, friendly, informative, and engaging guide. Would highly recommend!
Q. T.
Thousands of selection of whisky and even found a whisky where my friends lives in Scotland! Neat experience!
L. C. L.
I had a gold tour and I’m so happy that I did. Comprehensive introduction to regions that produce single malt whisky. Tasting part was very exciting. Eve is an amazing guide! She’s passionate about what she’s doing and she’s happy to answer people’s questions.
J. B.
One of the best experience's I have ever been on. The experience starts with a ride about making Whisky, you then enter a room all about Whiskey and what the factory does in different areas of Scotland and best of all you get to taste the Whiskey after inside the barn. The experience is a definite must do when visiting Edinbourgh.
S. M.
On 30th May, my wife and I visited there. There was so nice and prepared an audio personal guide with many languages. We were ble to learn many things to make Single Malt whiskey and Blended Whiskey and so on. And tasting whiskey was also so nice. And the tour guide lady, Ms Kelia was so kind and very nice explanations. We enjoyed very much. After tour, we had our lunch at Amber Restaurant at SWE. There was also very nice and very comfortable restaurant. The meals were very good taste. The whiskey shop was also very nice. All staffs were also very kind. I can recommend to visit there to learn Scottish Whiskey and to try to drink Scottish Whiskey. We enjoyed many Staffs in there!
W. T.
Great tour and the ride was fun. The collection was the highlight of the tour (outside tasting and drinking whiskey of course). Lewis was an awesome and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommend!
R. K.
The staffs were so helpful in giving whiskey taste consultation.
A. v. R.
A MUST see in Edinburgh! The tour consists of 3 parts. All of them were fantastic! Mike, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We took the entry level silver tour. Worth every penny!
j. v.
Incredible experience. Quite heavy food but the whiskeys as desert help digesting .
Ask for a tour of the private whiskey collection !
K. R.
We had a lot of fun here. Tour guide Alex was super fun! Only complaint is that it felt a little bit rushed - we were always being ushered through and then the bar closed at the end and we had to rush out of there too. Don’t book in the last tour of the day if you want to take your time and sample/enjoy your time!
J. H.
A really enjoyable, informative experience learning about Scotch Whisky, how it’s made and how the geography of Scotland affects each one. Had a fantastic tour guide, Lewis, who was fun, engaging and really knew his stuff. I’d really recommend a visit!!
K. M. M.
Had a wonderful time. Great experience and went well with the price. Our tour guide was fun to chat with and helped with suggestions. The Gold experience is perfect for a Scotch Whisky drinker and the silver is great for those that don't really like scotch whisky.
M. M.
I'm writing a review for the Scotish Whiskey Heritage Museum, I think this is the same place. Went here in 2002 and it was awesome. You got scotch in the waiting area, then you learned about how different styles of scotch were made (30 minutes), and then you got more scotch. I think it cost 7 pounds. I love Edinburgh and this place was one of the reasons why. Please note the date I visited was 20 years ago so this review could be way off ( hopefully it's not), but this place was definitely awesome back in the day and I hope it still is!
C. G.
I always found Scotch Whisky to be very intimidating, and this experience completely demystified it for me. I walked away having learned so much and feeling more confident in my Whisky knowledge. I booked the silver tour, which only includes one sample, but I wish there was an option with maybe 2 or 3 samples, as the next level up (gold tour) includes 5 samples, which was too many for me. Abi was a great guide, I had a great time!
G. D.
Our guide Holly was brilliant! She was super enthusiastic and very engaging. The tour was perfect too and you even get a Freeby as well. As an amateur whisky drinker I learned loads and can now shop smarter and enjoy whisky even more. We turned up without booking in advance. Top tip, take your wife/partner and you can drink their taster too!
R. C.
This was an absolute must do in Edinburgh. I recommend getting the gold package. If you love Scotch then you will love this.
M. R.
The tour was ok, nothing too special and seems all whiskey tours use the same spiel. And I do not know why it was recommended that we purchase our tickets in advance when several people walked up and purchased theirs and were crammed into our time slot tour. I wanted to purchase an item (non-alcohol) that was labeled 50 pounds and when I took it to the register it rang up 55, manager was called and stated it’s 55 even though the tag stated 50 and it stated the same on the others. Just walked out with out purchasing the item and will not be back.
D. H.
100% recommend for Whisky newbie! Also, a big shout out to Matt, our wonderful tour guide of the Silver experience, for making my first Whisky tasting experience so amazing! Now I can say I am a friend of Whisky😆
C. H.
We had a great experience - our guide Jim was fantastic, really engaging and funny. Whole thing was really well set up, lots of moving to different rooms and being able to sit down (not just walking round a display).
T. R.
We had the Gold Tour at the Scotch Whisky Experience. Curtis was our tour guide and he had excellent knowledge of the different whisky from around Scotland.
Highly recommend getting the Gold Tour as it allows you to try 4 different types of whisky when the tour is over.
m. t.
Really good experience, must do on your trip to Edinburgh.
The barrel ride was fantastic, so was to understand the process of making whisky. There is whisky testing at the end which is quite enjoyable.
This is right next to Edinburgh castle, so you can plan visiting it accordingly. need about an hour overall.
Recommended.
s.
loved the whisky collection room. interactive and informative tour. the young lady was a great and passionate tour guide. all staff were friendly. nice gift shop as well.
G.
A must for anybody visiting Edinburgh! 🏴
Learnt so much about the history of whiskey 🥃
R. Z.
Initially thought this would be a tourist trap but found it very informative. Great for someone look to get a good understanding of Scotch and have a nice tasting. Recommend the gold tour for the extra drams.
l. j.
A great whisky tour! All the staff, especially our guide Jake, were knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend the gold tour and we will be visiting the whisky shop again!
P. S.
This was absolutely amazing experience and value for money.
Staff are very friendly and informative
C. M. B.
Tour guide Alex was first class.
Great history lesson for all Whisky fans.
C. B.
This was the perfect way to kick off our stay in Edinburgh. We learned a lot about how whisky is made and how to properly taste it. Aidan was an excellent tour guide!
A. W.
We did the silver tour and it was plenty. The barrel ride at the start was really fun as they explained the process of making whiskey and you get to taste the whiskey at the end. The tour guide Jonny was very nice and funny ps Jameson the best
M. K.
We loved it! Learned a lot and had a blast with Matt. He knew his stuff and kept us interested the whole 60 min.
Pro tip: do the gold tour and try a few different whiskeys!
J. H.
Fun and educational experience, a must for all Scotch Connoisseurs. Or if you're just interested in the process.
P. L.
Amazing experience. We had the gold tour. We were already whisky lovers and we learnt a lot. It is a very complete activity to learn to know scotch from different parts of Scotland. We also immensely appreciated the tasting afterwards.
A. W.
The name says it all, a fabulous experience.
Spoilt for choice in the shop itself, but helpful and knowledgeable staff are there to assist and advice. The bar downstairs is quite something else. After studying 30+ pages of Malt Whisky a final choice was made for a tasting session. Fabulous settings and a great experience.....
P. T.
It was truly informative, educating and memorable. The entire process of Whisky making and tasting so lucidly explained. Enjoyed every minute of it being the Whiskey lover that I am.
p. p.
At first i thought it was expensive but it was totally worth it! The tour itself was amazing and set up perfectly. The largest collection of wiskey bottles was amazing to see. After the wiskey tasting we even got to take home the tasting glass!
C. B.
Rick Steves wrote an article about this place and called it ‘Malt Disney’ which I think is an accurate description. Even though it was a bit touristy we found it to be a super fun and valuable experience! I came to Scotland dead set on drinking lagavulin and other smokey flavored whiskey but their tasting experience really helped me dial in that I much more prefer speyside whiskey. We would highly recommend that at a minimum you do the ‘gold tour’ rather than just the silver level to get more bang for your buck! Honestly it helped me really appreciate whiskey and I’ll use the skills I learned there at future distillery experiences elsewhere. Don’t miss out on this awesome experience!
B. C.
Really good with the barrell ride, engaging, learned lots about whiskey. Liked the aroma cards too. Would reccommend the Gold over the Silver tour as you only get to taste 1 whiskey with the Silver, but is a lot more expensive.
S. F.
The description of the production and the art of whiskey was really detailed through an easy and fun way!Lucy explained us everything we need to know about Whiskey!
A really fun experience!
B. G.
Lucy C was the best host I've had in a guided tour for a while, she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and open for further questions beyond the given tour. The place itself is a MUST for any whisky enjoyer or hardcore fan as it offers some unique and rare brands.
F. V.
One of our - unexpected - highlights of our trip to Scotland. Such an amazing team and tour! A big shout out to Lucy N. She's a star and so enthusiastic and lovely.
E. B.
Amazing experience for all. It's a great experience for whisky lovers. Our Tour Guide was Abi and she was absolutely lovely.
S. F.
What a cool experience indeed. You start with a little ride and then a short presentation. Followed by a tasting and a trip to the vault. The vault had over 3000 bottles of un opened whisky.
A. A.
Even if it is a quick visit, the experience is worth it to learn about the history of Scotch whiskey. There are several tasting options. I recommend buying in advance.
B. E.
I did the gold tour with the extra whisky’s at the end got to try lots of different whiskey and the tour is actually quite impressive, big thanks too our guide Sune for a great tour
M. F.
Fantastic place if you want to learn about whiskey. Our guide Regina was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. She was so knowledgeable and incredibly kind! She answered every question without pause (and we asked a lot). Afterwards we caught up with her at the shop and had a blast just talking with her. She truly did love answering questions and talking about whiskey. REGINA YOURE THE BEST. Whiskey tour 10/10 and Regina 12/10 ongod.
A. D.
Absolutely amazing experience. Cameron was a great guide to the world of whisky! I don't really drink much whisky and even I found something I like.
N. A.
Great tour for a beginner whisky enthousiast. Don't expect too much of the whisky tasting if you are an advanced whisky drinker. Great collection of old whisky.
I. F.
Good place for whiskey lovers quite a bit of history a bit of tasting good fun

Context: Newbie to Scotch Whisky with no priori knowledge
I attended the gold tour with the Scotch Whisky experience. Hosted by Curtis, an absolute gentleman who's knowledgable with the difference flavors of Scotch Whisky.
There are 4 main parts of the experiences, overall I'll give a 9 out of 10 for these four combined. Below is the breakdown:
[7/10] 1. An action ride introduction. You will be placed in a moving cart and go through a video-like tour. This part was ok-ish as the tour wasn't very interactive.
[10/10] 2. An in-depth introduction of the 5 main flavors of Scotch Whisky, mainly influenced by the grains and water used. There is also actual samples of these flavor (e.g., smoky, grainy, fruity) so the audience can smell and understand the difference in the flavor profile. You can choose 1 of the 5 single-malt flavor profiles to taste, or choose the blended flavor.
[10/10] 3. A collection of over 1,000 bottles of Whiskies over a span of 80+ years. Displayed in glass cabinets. Truly beautiful and elegant.
[9/10] 4. If you choose the gold experience, you get to taste the 4 other flavor profiles. The smoky one is a bit too much, but overall I enjoy the experience and different taste.
G. B.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, worth every penny!
K. H.
Great and informative tour and tasting! Recommend the gold package
C. K.
Certainly geared towards tourists, but that's not a bad thing. The selection of Whisky for drams was extensive and the bartenders were very friendly and helpful.
h. L.
Very informative as cards where you can smell whiskies from different area of Scotland. Definitely bring photo ID, they do no accept scanned/photo versions.
G. A.
Great experience! Best to do as a group. The silver tour is absolutely worth the money. The 50-minute tour involves a fun ride that tells you everything about whisky production, a good and informative presentation by a knowledgeable guide, tasting one type of whisky of your choice and more. This place has an exquisite collection of whisky, some of which are over a century old.
You can do this tour even if you're a teatotaler. You just need to let the staff know.
This place is right outside the Edinburgh castle. For afternoon tours, you could just walk in and buy tickets if you wait for about 25 minutes, even on busy days.
Highly recommended!
C. D.
The scotch whisky experience is a must see in Edinburgh. The tour was well above what I had expected and the gentlemen narrating it was incredible. He really brought the smells, tastes, history, and life of the island to life through the lens of scotch. I highly recommend giving this a go. Recommend the “gold pass” as it’s additional tastings and not very expensive (~39£). If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would!
M. C.
Mind boggling amount of whiskey on display! A real treat!🥃🥃🥃
G. P.
Tremendous place and atmosphere I definitely like my visit there. The entire shop is concerned in whisky, scotch and other spirits either but or small bottles, just amazing. I was definitely impressed by the variety of alcohol and the history like maps and takes off it all. We could not take the tour but I am sure it is definitely worth it! Must visit if I'm Edinburgh!
I.
Fantastic, very professional tour which we loved from start to finish (and I don’t like whisky). Highly recommend!
H. K.
The tour was quite good.
video, trail course(?) and phenomenal collection!!
I hope that it could be nice to be served some crisp during tasting, even though it might be small amount. because whisky is strong😅 and gold tour is a kind of pricey.
(They only, literally, served whisky for whisky tasting. and a glass of tap water.)
M. K.
I have been on several different distillery tours in Scotland and in USA, but this was one of the best ones I have ever been on! I really loved how they did the tour on how they make the Scotch, very informative as well as interactive.
The tour guide was awesome! I never heard of Campbeltown scotch before so that was a nice treat. Getting to try each of Scotch regions was really cool and comparing them to each other.
The Scotch collection is a guiness world record, and was wonderful. I felt like a kid in a candy store, only sad thing was we couldn't try them. I loved seeing the five oldest in the collection as well as the Whiskey's that were made specifically for him.
The tasting room was really nice and fun to just sit and try various drinks. The bartenders were very informative as well and helped me find a few good ones to try.
I will def go back next time we visit our friends in Edinburgh
R. M.
Fab tour ,fantastic selections of whisky. Amazing collection of spirits. Tour could have been a wee bit slower
A. G.
Beautiful collection of whisky. Didn’t get to do the tour as the tour closes at 5pm. The shop has a huge collection and also some rare whisky which cost up to £25K a bottle. Is it worth buying?? I don’t know...didn’t get a chance to taste it. 😝
C. T.
Really enjoyed the trip to the scotch whisky experience. Great info and journey. Prices at the shop are laughable though - £10 for a pair of socks...
J.
It was surprisingly good! We expected a tourist trap, but Jethro, our guide, made a great experience out of it. Especially the Whisky Bar at the end was cozy and fun. Very nice place!
R. L.
We got the Gold Experience for the tour, Well worth the extra bit it costs. you get a few extra tasters of whisky at the end and get to have a chat with others who have also gotten the gold experience.
A. F.
This was such a pleasant surprise and I would happily go again and again. This experience is not only for whisky lovers - in fact even children would love it. The experience begins with a ride that shares the process of making whisky, followed by an introduction into each of the whisky-making regions of Scotland, giving you a totally immersive visual and scented experience. The film is stunning and it ends with a tasting and a tour of the largest collection of unopened whisky bottles in the world (a waste if you ask me ;) A great experience overall that I highly recommend.
T. O.
Pre-booked tickets for this. Very interesting history of scotch whisky and a nice taste at the end. Shop had a huge range of whiskies on offer
N. K.
Kev was our guide through the experience. He was brilliant with his knowledge and the explanation he provided.
He ensured that everyone has a good time
D.
Did not know what to expect when visiting here, but what an immersive and fun experience. Whether you enjoy whisky or not it is a great idea to visit if you are in Edinburgh at any point.
From the cute barrel ride learning the processing behind making the drink and selecting your favourite scent to match some whisky to try
S. L. C.
Really interesting trip studying the history and making it Scotch whisky. The brief barrel tour gives you a brief insight into what makes whisky and then an audio or guide gives you more information on the differing types of whisky and the variety of areas the whisky comes from and how that impacts the taste. Can get some offers for this place but time restricted so read any small print.
J. C.
Much better than you think these things are going to be, could've been very disneyland-y but actually a really nice blend (ho ho) of tour guide and interactive tasting
G. P.
Loved it here they have really packed a lot in to the tour to make it great value. Even during the covid restrictions we were able to enjoy everything taking our whisky samples home.
M. D.
Lots of whisky available. Didn't do the tour personally as there wasn't enough time for it. Did the whisky tasting though. Quite expensive but worth it if you are a lover of whisky. The menu has explanations of the different areas and the whiskys they make. The gift shop is also quite nice with the staff more than willing to lend a hand even if it is just trying to pronounce the name of the whisky
D. “. B.
Absolute must if you're visiting Edinburgh and of course if you are a whisky drinker. Recommend skipping the "Gold Pass" and try the "The Taste of Scotland" if in a small group of 1-4 people. It's more expensive but worth every penny!
It consists of the "The Platinum Tour" but you get the three-course Scottish food experience at the Amber Restaurant also. Pretty much takes up the evening with the plus side of a goodie bag and a whisky shop to yourself at the end of the tour.
My advise if this review has you thinking is to visit and ask if they have places rather than booking through the site.
D. A.
Absolutely fantastic place to visit. At first you sit in a 'whisky barrel' and are taken through the whole process of making whisky. You see barley, different containers, destilating process and the whole story is told my a ghost...
Later on they tell you about different regions of Scotland and how those affect whisky flavour and at the end teach you how to taste it. How to smell it, what to look out for in colour and the way it swirls in the glass.
Tasting happens in a room filled with 3500 unopened bottles of whisky.
Super trip. Staff is passionate and knowledgeable. Lots of projections and modern twists :) we loved it
M. S.
The barrel ride was average.
Good if you don’t know how spirits are made
The tasting room was done well.
Don’t both getting the upgraded tour. The drams are only 15ml each
Really not worth the extra $$.
Visit some of the distilleries much better value.
M. K.
Great place to learn about Scotch Whisky in an entertaining, eduactional, and immensive environment. It's very close to Edinburgh Castle front gate.
R. T.
A great tasting experience. They will tell you something about the 5 different whiskey making regions in Scotland. Great to know because this makes shopping for the right whiskey way easier. With a cinematic tour, and a tasting experience in the room with the biggest collection of whiskey, I will recommend this when visiting Edinburgh!
R. D.
If you are going to the castle you must go in and see this, to experience and learn the process involved in making some of the finest whisky on the planet.
I thought I new whisky, I have drunk a quiet a few glasses over the years, but now I know what to look for to experience the best from the rest.
The restaurant was fantastic a good choice of food.
Overall very courteous staff that new there stuff and a nice memory to take away along with The Glencairn Glass.
A. M.
Lovely place to eat Scottish food. Vegetarian option also. Staff friendly and helpful. Unusually quiet at lunchtime today, which benefitted us. Booked online, but would be space gor walk-ins. All staff wore masks and hand sanitisers at door, and dotted throughout. On exiting, I found reception area (not entrance) too crowded to even 1 meter distance.
Z. Z.
Lovely experience, a must do
Γ. Π.
Perfect experience, you must try it when you are in Edinburgh, the price is 17lir. include it one beautiful glass which gave you to taste the whiskey of your choice. Carol is the best guide, she is so kind and impressive... Don t miss it....
G. K.
Interesting and pleasant experience regarding whisky. Really close to the castle. Luxurious environment. You get to taste 1 whisky (included in the ticket which costs around 15 quid) or 2 for extra. Very informative about Scotch whisky altogether. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended in combination with a visit to the Edinburgh Castle.
D. S.
Amazing experience, so much to learn about scotch! The staff is really professional and great and their scotch is something i'll never forget!
G. N.
A great spot to sit and enjoy a drink and spectacular views. We popped in out of the rain and ended up having a wonderful time. The staff were lovely and very knowledgeable, and the views were amazing. My partner had the gold flight which he loved, and I opted for a hot toddy as I’m not a huge whisky fan but wanted something to warm me up! Highly recommend even for non-whisky lovers.
Z. T.
The golden tour is not worth the price during quarantine in my opinion. The only difference is one more bottle of sample for you to take back home. No chance to taste on-site. (and the tour guide only realized i booked the golden tour after it all ends) Degraded to silver, hope my refund will arrive soon.
The multi-media experience was lovely and the view outside the bar window was stunning. Nice to be able to shoot photos indoor. The whisky collection is insane! The card with odor is such a brilliant touch! Huge thanks to Becca(hopefully got it right) and Cody in gift shop! You guys are soooo sweet, patient and professional in Whisky!
J. P.
This was a great experience to do. I had interest in whisky, but never knew anything about it. The tour was very inspiring and helpful. Guess they got a new fan joining the whisky gang!
J. D.
Good intro to scotch world. Slightly touristy and gimmicky. Don't expect a very serious scotch experience. This is for beginners and intermediates. Cadenhead or smws may provide a better experience for someone looking for a no nonsense session. We sampled 4 single malt and 1 blended 30 year old. Paid 38 pounds for platinum tour. Booking is highly recommended. Ended with a free glencairn glass and a scotch map. Highlight is the world largest collection of scotch library. There is no discount on retail shop which was little disappointing. Peter our tour guide was good and led the session nicely
T. M.
It's hard to explain what the world's largest scotch whiskey collection looks like so I attached pictures. Nearly 3400 bottles dating back as far as 1896 and all still full. Fun staff and a great educational experience for the novice whiskey drinker.
M. M.
Husband was in his element, getting to hear about how it all started, even though I don't like the smell or taste of whisky, it was an amazing place to visit. And the best thing is you get to taste the whisky and even if you don't like whisky you get an irn bru, so you don't go without. And also a free glass to keep which was brilliant
B.
Lovely experience which gives a good base to build your whisky knowledge on. Straightforward, easy to understand, many language options for the tour. Bar itself is great, and has a massive selection of interesting malts. Also, you can go there any time and you don’t need to do the tour again.
d. e.
Great way to begin your trip in Scotland. I did the gold tour and definitely recommend it! You get to tastes scotch from all of the regions. It begins with a ride, then an explanation of the regions to your tasting, into the whiskey collection, and finish in the bar for your additional tastings. You could do the same at local pubs for the same price, without the tour and ride, so it's worth the price! Don't plan on driving afterwards, give yourself time.
S. S.
Definitely worth seeing! They’ve got a huge variety of whisky at all different price points! Their tours do get sold out so try to pre book if possible.
G. K.
Enjoy different Scottish whiskey, while learning more about the history of whiskey, how to taste it and many more interesting things. The personal is very friendly and knowledgable. And the collection that is hidden away in the building is breath taking. This is a good place for any whiskey lover and a guarantee for a good afternoon.
M. W.
Great tour highly recommended, our tour guide was a great laugh and it was a highlight of our Edinburgh visit!
P. G.
Super nice way to discovery Whiskey. You get to try one or 5 if you are gokd tour.
Our tour guide Cameron was really good and always happy to answer questions, thank you !
j. l.
We had such a fun time here and we aren't whiskey drinkers at all. The tour begins with a slow, cute ride in whiskey barrel that takes you on the journey of how Scotch whiskey is made. After that you sit in a very classy room with a sheet of paper that gives you 4 selections of different regions where their whiskey is made. You scratch n' sniff all of them and then choose which one to sample. You get to keep the whiskey tasting glass as well. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and even helped me pick out a nice whiskey for my boyfriend.
They have the world's largest collection of Scotch Whiskey; I highly recommend the tour!
T. “. G.
Great experience on the Silver tour, one of our best impromptu tours whilst visiting Edinburgh. Kev, our tour guide, did a 'Sterling' job. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone with an hour or so to spare, great value for money.
L.
We booked the gold tour and was offered four samples of regional whisky. Very educational tour and learnt a lot about the process of scotch whisky production, overall a great experience.
L. S.
I recently took the "Gold" Tour and it was well worth the ticket price. You can take a less expensive tour without the 4 additional tastings at the end if you prefer. For me, taking the tour was to learn, understand overcome my distaste for Scotch. I wouldn't say I've become a regular Scotch drinker but the tour was very informative, easy to understand, and really rather entertaining. I think they've done a great job with their presentations (audibly and visually). Our guide was a young woman who kept the attention of her tour with her knowledge and confidence. You'll learn more than you might imagine, and after watching the video presentation you may find yourself on a tour up to one of the many distilleries located in The Highlands. The video presentation on a large screen is fabulous. And you will not be at a loss if you choose to make a Scotch purchase as the gift shop is filled beyond belief with it! You will find the staff in the gift shop to be helpful, knowledgeable and very friendly. This is a great stop before or after (probably a better idea) a visit to the castle as it's only steps away from The Scotch Whisky Experience!
M. C.
The best! It worth to try it!
The tour and tasting was very well done! I learned a lot about scotch!
The dinner , wow ! The best.
You will not regret it !
S. N.
Love that they provide different languages in explaining. Especially in Cantonese! 🇭🇰 Recommend Hong Kong people to bring some elderly member to go and experience!
D. N.
Oh wow, had a tight timeline, standing and waiting for the castle to open, the signs on the street kept on catching my eye, was torn between the castle and going for a whisky experience. Funds were limited either way, South African exchange rate is not very favourable at all.
Dumped the castle tour, helped along by the rain, popped into the shop.
My breath was taken away from the absolute variety and choices available.
Would love to have spent a lot more time there, but had to grab a few collectable miniatures for a fellow Whisky Pig back home.
Down our way, whisky is cheaper, but we do not have the variety readily available in the UK and EU.
Had to get a few of those lapel badges though, oh well, will have to make a plan for more time and money for another trip in the not to distant future!
Broke my heart leaving without even having a single dram!
D. B.
We took the Gold Tour, which was excellent. Our tour guide, Holly, gave a presentation that was incredibly precise, informative, and fun. Totally worth doing. Lasted about 1:15. The Gold Tour is the same as the Silver Tour with 4 added Whisky tastings & 1-year membership to a whiskey appreciation association (various discounts on things). Silver Tour includes multimedia tour & 1 whisky tasting. I highly recommend.
N. G.
This was a fun experience to try. I've been to Edinburgh several times and it never disappoints. We tried the Platinum experience and despite the ride not working the time our tour was supposed to start, we really didn't need it because the rest of the tour was amazing. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I learned more about whisky tasting, history, and modern brewing techniques than I ever anticipated. I highly recommend this experience if you are a lover of whisky and history or just want to learn something new.
D. S.
You can’t be in Edinburgh and miss this . I must say if you are anywhere in Scotland you should visit Edinburgh and visit the scotch whiskey experience . I had to go there thrice to get a space . That’s how busy these people are . The experience of once in a lifetime . Especially for us scotch fans . It’s starts with a small rolling chair . The second round is giving you some of the rare whiskey experience . It also includes a blending experience and all the process that’s involved in how the best whiskey is created here in Scotland . The different regions and how the whether and ingredients work on the distinctive taste of every whiskey produced here in Scotland . They also have restaurant where who can indulge in some more whiskey tasting and some mouth watering food .A must visit for anyone who visits Scotland .
A. M.
I was skeptical that this would be a silly tourist attraction, but was pleasantly surprised! We did the Platinum tour with Jethro and it was absolutely wonderful. He did a great job helping us learn more about whiskey, from the making to tasting, all while being entertaining.
Whether you enjoy whiskey or not, I recommend spending some time learning about such a diverse liquor!
A. D.
Very cool experience. For people that don't know much about Whisky, this is a very informative place to go. For those more experienced, three will not be any high end or rare tastings. Much of the information will be redundant to you. However, the whisky collection alone is worth the trip. Some very impressive bottlings in there.
A. G. (.
This is a must for any whisky enthusiast. Even if you know about whisky the gold trip let's you sample a whisky from each region and learn how and why they have unique tastes and flavours. Our tour guide (Cameron) was fun and explained everything. Also worth doing to see the world's largest collection of unopened bottles of whisky.
J. E.
We wanted to tour at least one distillery on our trip and found the perfect place up the road a mile from Balmoral Castle. Lochnagan Distillery. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert toured the place and we're so impressed with the whiskey they gave their neighbor a royal warrent. Tours on the hour with a wee dram of their single malt included with the lovely and educational tour.
T. W.
Great trip out very Infornative
p. w.
Really nice way to get overview on Scotch Whisky. We took the Platinum tour. The 90 mins went fast - you get some interesting education, activations and tasting. Our leader, Nicola, was super knowledgeable and fun.
J. M.
Fantastic way to learn about the history and regions of whisky in Scotland. We did the family tour (silver package), which is suitable for children. Whisky tasting at the end and display of the world's largest collection of whisky.
A. T.
On of the activities that really enjoyed even though I'm not a whisky fan myself. The tour was made very interesting, they explained the difference between difference regional single malts and the blended whisky. They gave us this sample card that you could smell the difference between each of them. At the end you can chose your type to try and the take you to the beautiful room with all the whisky collection.
K. B.
DO THIS! Book tickets a few days in advance if you can. You can get them same day but you have to get there early to plan out your time. This was by far one of our favorite alcohol tours we have done and we make a point of going to local breweries and distilleries. This is very educational and simply fun. The staff is very knowledgeable and engaging. In the end you stop in a bar where you can taste a very wide assortment of Scotches from all over and in a wide price window.
T. S.
I visited the Scotch Whisky Experience with a group of friends during a recent visit to Edinburgh. The guided tour, tastings and subsequent food tasting in the Restaurant was a perfect introduction to Edinburgh and the art of appreciating amazing whisky and traditional Scottish food (the haggis is delicious BTW). Definitely include this on your next visit to Edinburgh!
B. B.
Ok so I like a whiskey, every now and then.
But there was a lot I did not know!
Our tour guide was Lewis, he made the tour fun and interesting, appropriate humour and an in depth knowledge showed through. We heard the tail end of another tour and I was glad that Lewis had been our guide. The tasting was good as you get a choice of the 5 different areas as well as a blended. If you go for the higher price tour you can taste them all.
I would visit again and probably do the tour again but would want to check if Lewis was the guide first.
There are a huge range of whiskeys to choose from and I would have spent all day there but I was a little tipsy after 3 and needed to eat something.
Oh and I have to say thanks to the manager whose name I did not get, as we arrived late but she very kindly added us to the next available tour. As this was our fault this was a very kind act and worthy of mention.
M. T.
Really beautiful experience. Worth visiting when you are in Edinburgh and you want to learn more about whiskey and all the different flavors.
B. S.
Excellent experience! At first I thought the barrel ride was a little cheesy but it is actually very well done and very informative. Our guide for the rest of the tour was Aidan and he was exceptional. Very informative, a great orator and funny too.
K. F.
I did the Taste of Scotland tour and dinner pairing. This may have been the best meal I have had all year! The food was absolutely amazing. The tour was nice and engaging. The tasting on the tour was highly informative. Everyone was quite knowledgeable. The whiskey wasn't too bad either ;).
M. H.
Tasting Tales with Alex was the most brilliant introduction to whiskey. Four whiskeys matched with four very different local delicacies, each chosen carefully for their story and delicious consumption! Thought it might be touristy - it is not. As a non whiskey drinker, I thought I would struggle through this, but not the case! Couldn’t recommend this more highly as a must do in Edinburgh.
G. G.
I am not much for Whisky but when in Edinburgh...I am happy to say that I had a great time. I learned a lot and the food was amazing! I took the Platinum Tour which had the Taste of Scotland Menu and I have no regrets. Gregor was super nice, respectful and knowledgeable, made the experience really fun. Everyone I spoke with were super nice and welcoming.
S. C.
A fantastic tour for first timers or those who have already fallen in love with whisky. Information, friendly and easily explained without being too technical. And a fantastic chance at the end to see a huge private collection!!
O. D.
Being a lover of whisky this was a must visit in Edinburgh.
We went for the basic tour which included 1 shot of whisky to taste. There is a short ride which shows you the process of whisky making and then a number of interactive rooms where your guide is assisted by some characters from the past.
Then you get to choose a whisky from one of the Scottish regions. I didn't realise that there was such a difference in taste, nose and colour. You also get to keep your tasting glass adding to the value.
They house the largest collection of whisky in the world which was really impressive, seeing all the amber gold!
There is also a bar there to top up your 'angels share'
P. W.
This was a great way to learn about scotch whiskey. The gold tour is the best option as you get to taste all 5 whiskey types.
C. P.
Great tour, very informative! I recommend going for the gold tour so you get to try more whisky. Free glass at the end was a nice surprise. Special thanks to Andrew and Clyde for their time answering questions!
J. F. M. P.
Nice thing to do if you like whisky and you want to know a little more about how scotch whisky is made. And you can keep the glass that you use to taste the whisky!
K. M.
This was arranged by my son, a Gold experience. Considering we have Covid-19, absolute hygiene was observed with surfaces in each area cleaned as each group passed through. Masks worn by everyone, staff and visitors apart from during tasting.
This was a superb intro to how whisky is made from raw materials, through the processes to a lovely tasting area, no hurry, lots to look at including a whole room with three walls of glass shelves of hundreds of different whiskies. Well worth the money!
Also very close to the Castle approaches and the Camera Obscura.
J. F.
This certainly was an experience.
First, there's the theme park ride, yes, theme park ride explaining how whisky is made. We rode in plastic chariots shaped like whisky barrels and got explanations from a "ghost" on every step in the whisky making process. We couldn't stop laughing throughout the ride.
Then we got a video introduction on the different regions of scotch whisky, accompanied by individual scratch cards said to represent the aromas of the whiskies from each district (four smelled like soap, one like lapsang tea)
After that our guide (helped by the "ghost") gave us some history of scotch whisky and explained the process of blending blended whisky.
We now got the chance to taste a whisky, choosing between a single malt from one of the five regions or a blended scotch. This we took into the whisky vault, now we're getting to the impressive part, about 500 different, unopened, whisky bottles. In that room our guide gave us an introduction into the ways of doing a "proper" tasting of whisky.
Finally we exited into a whisky bar where the tour ended. Since we had the gold tour we had four more glasses of single malt waiting for us, and we could take all the time we wanted tasting these.
I recommend taking at least the gold tour if you go here, it might feel a bit like a theme park ride at times, but it was really enjoyable and gave a great introduction to whisky.
A. H.
This is only a review on the store.
There is a fantastic selection of Whiskies to purchase at the Scotch experience. I liked how you were able to search based on regions and that there are already made regional tasting packs.
We didn't go on the tour because we were going to Glenfiddich later in our trip. Had we not already planned to do that tour, we probably would have given the tour a shot.
R. M.
What a delightful experience! My husband and I did the Gold Tour and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Lewis - our guide - did an excellent job in explaining everything to us and made the experience most enjoyable. Would highlight recommend
A. G.
Must visit place if you're a fan of whiskey, can see how single malt whiskey made, then continental and finally you can see varieties of scotch whiskey. Final gift as the 3000+ collection different whiskey thought years from 1700s to till date
G. G.
Going there, I did not know what to expect, but I totally loved it. Chris was our guide and he was fantastic.
p. t. h.
I was short on time so I just did the silver tour. The whiskey collection was the highlight would definitely recommend
H. D.
It was splendid experience. If you visit Scotland, this is great place for Whisky lovers. Great detailed explanation of all whisky.......Awesome!
E. H.
I did the silver tour and the other in my party did gold. Was a fun, if a bit hokey, experience. Did it at the start of our two week trip to Scotland, which was nice as we then had a better base understanding of whisky!
N. K. J.
Wow! A fantastic experience, something that should never be missed if you are in Edinburgh. The tour starts with a small ride which explains in a very layman way how Scotch is made. Later on you are taken to a room where a video is played on the intricacies and varieties of Scotch. Next you are offered a chance to pick your Whisky for a drink and you can keep the beautiful glass to yourself. Never realised Scotch making is more of an art to the Scott's. Very highly recommend.
M. N.
A fabulous tour learnt about whiskey and tasted a nice light lemony whiskey.
My birthday present from my daughter my first visit.
T. B.
Loved this place so much! Our tour guide Lucy C was fantastic! Fun, knowledgeable and obviously enthusiastic about whisky even more than I am! She even gave us an extra few drams of whisky to celebrate being on our honeymoon! The museum itself is very well done. Amazing exhibits and really interesting even if you're not into whisky at all. I like to think of myself as a bit of a whisky expert but even I learned a lot of new information. A must visit when you're in Edinburgh.
L. D.
It's more for the experience than tasting. The narrative was fun and the video presentation was lovely. Go for the Gold tour if you are looking to taste more whiskies.
G. B.
I am personally highly suspicious of the places which looks like this - almost too good advertisements, located in the very tourist center of a city, offers some "performance" about the most known aspect of the region. I consider these places as a tourist trap. I would like to assure you, that this place is the exact opposite of that.
For me, the whole tour was a professionally organized presentation of the scotch whisky. There were plenty of experiences for the mind and for the senses: knowledgeable and enjoyable facts about the history and the production of whisky, beautiful videos about the different whisky regions of Scotland, intense smells of the different whisky types, tasting of a choosen whisky from a tasting glass (which you can keep) in a tresor with a vast whisky collection - all of these are guided by a professional host.
The experience is topped with a nice bar to continue the tasting on your own, and with a shop to choose from several brands and accessories to bring home.
An absolute recommendation if you have even the slightest interest in whisky.
R. V.
If whiskey is king, this is your thing.
D. M.
Interesting to learn about the whiskey making process and how it differs from other whiskies in the world. Quite a huge production for not being a distillery. The most interesting part was learning about the whisky making regions in Scotland.
Staff was knowledgeable, but even on a slow day there was a lot of traffic which didn’t allow for much personalized attention and explanation of the whiskies. Despite the production value, I found the tour a bit hokey with an unnecessary “barrel ride”, but it did have an impressive personal collection on display. I would have preferred actual distillery equipment and a walking tour.
Finally, I understand what admission buys because there’s a real theme park feel to this place, but I’m not sure the regular price of admission would have been worth it. I sprung for the gold tour which gave me and extra 4 tastings at the end, making the price more worth it for a few pounds more.
All in all, neat learning experience, but I would have preferred an actual distillery or a bar setting with a more personalized tasting experience. Very touristy and theme park-y.
A. S.
Interesting educational experience of the whiskey manufacturing process and the different whiskey producing regions of Scotland. The tour was well organised and our tour guide was Cameron, who is clearly very good at his job and makes a remarkable host. I learnt the correct way of drinking whisky today!
K. v. d. H.
Amazing whisky experience! We did the full tour and extended tasting. The staff is super knowledgeable (at least our guide was). The information was informative and beautifully rendered in awesome interactive ways. If you are into whisky or you want to be this is a great starting point! Definite would visit!
A.
Excellent whisky tasting experience, with a barrel ride (slow rollercoaster) leading into several rooms where the tour continues with a video and the all important tasting experience at the end. Kev, our tour guide was both informative and approachable and I learnt a lot about whisky. The tour even caters for children by providing Irn Bru instead. I’d highly recommend this tour!
M. M.
This place was so interesting! I've done the Heineken and Guinness and this is up there with the later! Great and friendly hosts, tasting is worth the money! Now we want to go back and see these places for ourselves 😁
B. “.
We did the Platinum Tour and it was definitely an experience! Our tour guide was fun, entertaining and knowledgeable! Absolute recommendation!
M.
Marvelous service, amazing experience! You travel in a barrel learning about the elaboration of whisky, and you can even taste some types of this delicious drink. Definitely, a must for whisky lovers!
s. m.
Been here twice. Fun experience which details how whisky is made and the different varieties that are made. Also offers a tasting as part of the tour. I would recommend getting the gold experience so you can try each of the five kinds of whisky.
L. S.
A great experience even for non whiskey drinkers. The experience is really interesting and the staff are very knowledgeable and tentative to the needs of the people on the tour.
P. T.
We had a group of 4, we all did the gold tour. You get to learn how whisky is made, you learn the different regions of Scotlands whisky, you get a very picturesque experience in their whiskey room and you get to sample 4 additional whiskey regions. We all enjoyed the experience and learned a lot.
D. S.
Took the platinum tour. Might be good for people very new to whisky, but might feel quite gimmicky and bit boring for enthusiasts. Tasting drams that we had aren't the top shelf stuff. The gift was a whisky map and a glencairn. Wish it was etched/marked.
R. T.
We did the Tasting Tales experience.
The pairing were great and I really enjoyed it (even as a none whiskey drinker)
Our host (Mike) was super knowledgeable and got everyone talking too which was great
M. M.
Brilliant place spent a pleasant couple of hours here learning about the history of whisky distilling in Scotland. Sampled one of their very fine whiskys and received a present of a lovely glass. Overall a very worthwhile visit at a reasonable cost. A big shout out to our lovely guide Matt 👍👍
K. F.
This was one of the best parts of my trip
To Edinburgh! Louis was my guide and he was a lot of fun, informative and engaging. I can’t recommend this enough.
P. J.
We enjoyed an excellent meal at the restaurant attached to this business, which also involved a whiskey tasting experience. Great food and service and plenty of variety of whiskeys and associated items for sale in the retail section.
B. J.
The ride is a bit cheesy but still fun. The collection and tasting were highlights. I recommend the gold tour as you get a flight of whiskeys.
T.
A very fine place to introduce oneself to Scotland's national treasure. Charismatic guides and well thought presentations make it a pleasure to learn. Great selection of whiskies, too.
R. G.
A video based whiskey making tour which is laid out well and provides just enough details to give you a good overview of the whiskey making process. The tasting was a little confusing (we thought we were done in the tasting room and finished our tasting sample there, but you should save the sample until the vault where additional tasting instructions are provided. The vault is awesome!
We thought this one to be a far better value and far more enjoyable than the Guinness tour we did in Dublin.
S. X.
Very good steak. Starter and dessert also good. We had a set menu part of the show, which was served quick and very well prepared. We'll worth it all round.
J. S.
We were worried this would be tacky or touristy. WRONG! It was absolutely brilliant. We enjoyed the main part of the tour learning about the different Whisky regions of Scotland and the way whisky is made... but the best part was at the end. We had the gold tour which gives you four extra measures of whisky that you get in the bar area. We sat at the bar itself and while tasting we got to chat to the team behind the bar. These guys and girls know EVERYTHING. We learned so much and had such a great time speaking with them all.
j. r.
Whiskey lovers must come. Good tour and in the end the Tasting was great
K.
Very good experience. Customer service, guide enthusiastic and professional about whisky knowledge. A blast of culture and the tasting at the end of the gold tour was perfect! I highly recommend if you like whisky or just want to discover it.
S. S.
So informative and the tasting was incredible. The guides are very knowledgeable and made for a great tour even for a novice whiskey drinker like me!
S. W.
If you enjoy whisky, or just like factory-type tours, this is definitely worth it. Highly recommend booking online, as this will save you from waiting an hour in line to purchase tickets. Think of pre-booking as your “Fast Pass.”
If you already know you love single-malt Scotch, I’d recommend the Gold entry pass, which includes 4 tastings. If you’re not that much of a fan, the Silver is more than sufficient, as it includes about an hour of organized touring, one tasting, and a taster glass.
A. L.
Did the silver tour with Charlie as my guide, really nice! Wish I had booked a longer tour which I will do next time. The staff there was very friendly
H. P.
We did the silver tour and found it to be a very interactive and educational experience. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a great storyteller. We explored the different areas in Scotland by their characteristic smells. Finally, we got to do a tasting and continued our own tasting at the bar (btw excellent value for money!)
S. C.
If you love scotch, this is the place to go, from learning how it's made, to how to sample a dram, and then the glorious whisky vault. Such a good time, and thats not even talking about how great all the staff were.
A. D.
When visiting Edinburgh, a traveler must book a spot at The Scotch Whisky Experience, you will have a lot of fun and learn great things about Scotch before heading out on your Scotch tastings.
S. F.
Fantastic tour and great if you want to lean about the different regions of whisky in Scotland. The Gold package was ideal giving the opportunity to try 4 drams of whisky from the different regions plus the one included as part of the silver package therefore giving the chance to appreciate all 5 areas.
A must do if you appreciate, or even want to learn to appreciate, good whisky.
A. W.
This business based at the top of the Royal Mile near the Castle in Edinburgh, is I suppose targeting Edinburghs burgeoning tourist industry and good luck to them with this, there's a free shop and a restaurant and whisky tours varying in price from £16 to £70. You would need to be really interested in Whisky to pay £70, anyway why not pay that towards a decent bottle or visit a distillery. I think almost all the whisky brands are from owners beyond Scotland, perhaps they should preach on that.
R. H.
We had the pleasure of The Scotch whisky experience with tasting/ food last night Tuesday 1st June. The tour guide Kevin was very knowledgeable and delivered the tour with passion and professionalism thank you. The food was amazing and the service outstanding would highly recommend as a must when visiting Edinburgh. Many thank Chris and Rob.
K.
Entry was £16 pound for the Silver tour. You get into a big whiskey barrel and it tells you about the process. The animation is pretty good and something different.
The explanation of the different types of whiskey and what makes it a blend is also very interesting. Was nice to taste one of them too. I'd go back for a bigger range of testing next time. They also let you keep the glass.
The unopened whiskey collection is amazing. Only wish I could taste the lot of them.
A. H.
A favorite for our family. The tour is such fun and does a great job explaining the flavor differences between the various Scottish regions of Scotch Whisky.
S.
It was fun riding the barrel as you learn about the making of scotch whisky. The silver tour takes about an hour and sampling of one whisky. There is also a gift shop where you can get mini bottles of whisky as souvenirs as well as whisky cake and whisky chocolate.
c. a.
We choose the Silver Tour and I can say overall it’s definitely a good tour. Well organized, very knowledgeable staff and the collection of whisky is very impressive. I am only giving 4 stars because I have to say the beginning of the tour (where you go in a teacups version of an amusement park) felt really impersonal and not in connection with the rest of the tour. It is though out to show you the process of how whisky is made, but for a person who is familiar with this it feels a bit poorly made.
M. (. W.
Awesome Place, nice selection of Whiskys with the Goldticket. You will also get a Membership for a year where you can buy another gold ticket and a friend comes in for free. Lots of fun and the collection is really nice. Cool Show and some nice effects, I do go here every visit to Edinburgh. Whiskybar after the Tour is magnificent as well.
T. U.
I nice and inventive way to learn about Scottish whisky. If I had more time I would have done the gold tour (included 4 tasting whisky) now we did the platinum with 1 tasting glas whisky (you get the glas as a souvenir) and it takes c.a. 50 min.
A. G.
I was surprised at how well the tour was put together! For being a major tourist attraction, the staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I highly recommend that you visit if you have an hour or two to spend looking at the amazing collection and doing a few tastings.
T. F.
We did the Gold Tour. In the end, the only difference between the Silver Tour and Gold Tour is that you get more tastings with the Gold after the tour is complete, so if you're not much a Scotch drinker like myself but want to take someone who loves Scotch, you can get two different tours but still go together. Very fun and educational experience. I don't like Scotch but found learning about the different regional scotches very interesting. The Scotch collection is something to see as well. Definitely stop by the gift shop; there are lots of different gifts for Scotch lovers and the staff is very helpful with picking out the right Scotch and identifying those that you might not be able to get back at home .
P. O.
I spent there great time, our guide was fantastic, made a lot of funny jokes. It was a valuable visit. It was really worth to go there.
C. K.
Outstanding experience. My highlight in Edinburgh by far! Do not miss the chance to visit this gem near the Edinburgh castle. Amazing experience and tastings whether you like whiskey or not. Just great!!
A. P.
WOW, Absolutely amazing learnt so much from their experts. Tours for all budgets. Staff Friendly and knowledgeable not one question went unanswered. Well worth a visit.
J. N.
I love whiskey and this was just a great experience with a tasting and free tasting glass included. Quite a clever move. Would waste a lot of water washing the tasting glasses... A bit Disney World'ish ride but interesting and the prices in the shop matched what I had seen in Glasgow so not the typical rip-off pricing you often find.
G. M.
Great day out . All members of staff very friendly and helpful. Great knowledge of whisky . Great to sample the different types of whisky . Would definitely recommend.
F. C.
You can enjoy a glass of whisky and a 50 minute tour within just £15. Mike was our guide and he was entertaining, friendly, and amazing! They have the biggest private whiskey collection and they allow you to take pictures of everything so it is really nice to visit. You can chose which type of whiskey you would drink after being informed of 5 different types of whiskeys during the tour. I loved it.
J. M.
What a great experience. We took the silver Tour, which starts with a explanation of the distilling process, then a look at the different whisky making regions and a history of blended whisky and ends with whisky tasting, whist surrounded by the largest collection of scotch whisky.
Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
The cafe downstairs has some great options for lunch, coffee and cake. And the shop has a fantastic whisky selection.
Well worth a visit for all whisky fans.
G. S.
I had two things in mind whilst visiting Scotland; whiskey tasting, and to try haggis and this place hit both out of the park! The whiskey was amazing, and I think I am now a fan of haggis!
J. L.
Good tour... initially a bit cheesy with the whisky barrel ride, but the Deagio Collection of whiskys are well worth seeing, and the tasting session and bar are quality. I would recommend the gold tour 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
C. B.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff... an unforgettable experience for any Whisky lover!
J. B. (.
Great tour to visit. The silver tour, which is the one I followed, offers a lot about the basics of whisky and how it's made. There's more tours available for the more "experienced" whisky drinker. The final part of the tour which showcases over 3400 bottles is amazing to see.
C. D.
Fantastic experience, the world's largest whisky collection was amazing!
The platinum tour was fantastic and the ride in the whisky barrel was such a great and unique experience.
On the tours you can taste various whiskies from the different regions of Scotland and the differences in the tastes are explained really well.
I would definitely recommend the tour to anyone who is interested in whisky. Plus if you live in the UK and have travelled to Edinburgh with hand baggage only, you can buy whisky in their shop and have it delivered to your house.
A. B.
Fun experience! Had the full package with tasting and a 3 course dinner. The guide was informative and made the tour and tasting to a good experience. We also got to see a video describing the different regions. The 3 course dinner was good as well. Well worth a visit!
J. B.
This was a lot of fun. If you really enjoy whisky it's worth upgrading to the gold or higher tour.
K. F.
Even if you're not a whisky drinker, this is a very entertaining and informative place. You travel around a clever/how it is made presentation in a moving barrel, then learn about the five different whisky regions before going into the tasting room.
C. S.
Brilliant! We did the Platinum Tour with guide Harry and it was fab. He was so knowledgeable and passionate, and it was really interesting learning more about Whisky since we knew very little before our visit! Loved learning how to smell and taste Whisky correctly, and the Whisky collection has to be seen to be believed. We are wine lovers, and Harry gave us a great recommendation before we left for a sweet blend which might suit our palates - we bought a couple of miniatures before we left to continue our whisky education! If you can't get a spot on a tour, be sure to visit the shop - it's an experience in itself!
J. M.
Good craic. Doesn't take itself seriously despite its amazing whiskey your and selection. An absolute must if you like your whiskey or just want to learn!
P. P.
Brilliant, entertaining and informative. Friendly staff excellent all round experience. Highly recommend if visiting Edinburgh.
J. M.
Highly recommend this tour! Loved the innovative learning experience and the whiskey tasting was great!
J. H.
What an amazing tour! The whiskey barrel ride was surprisingly good fun while still being educational (although I do wish you had the smells of a distillery). The tour itself was brilliant and our tour guide was very insightful. On the gold tour you get to try some very nice whiskey and I highly recommend it. The bar at the end was really nice and had a few more tipples there - with over 400 whiskeys to choose from it took a while to pick what to drink!
W. C.
It's better than what I expected. I'm not a whisky drinker but it's very interesting. I actually enjoy the tour a lot.
K. D.
We had such a great time on this tour - informative but also lots of humor! Our tour guide Erin gave us great recommendations for scotch to try after our tour. Anyone visiting Edinburgh with an interest in scotch or whiskey in general would enjoy this tour!
y. o.
Spent 25 pounds for the gold tour and it was worth every pound. The guide we had was excellent, humorous and helpful. I loved the very Amazing postcard given which gives you the smells of the various whiskeys all in one card! It truly engaged in all the senses. :) the tasting flight of 5 whiskeys was well worth the extra cost. :)
M. M. M. A.
Very good one of the distiller in Scotland. Good to explain how to make whiskey. Should to study and go. Location is downtown in Scotland.
N. H.
I’m much more the wiser about Whisky & the various flavours around Scotland after visiting here. And a nice, well stocked bar to unwind in after the tour.
S. B.
Fantastic experience for any Whisky lover!! Even the Mrs. had a great time learning about the process and doing a bit of tasting! Cody was a fantastic host and really made me feel well informed by the end.
T. B.
Took the silver tour £15 excellent experience. Disney like amusement ride that had us Orlando residents rolling our eyes at first ended far exceeding our expectations. Our tour guide was well informed and very entertaining. Great whiskey glasses ss a parting gift. Well worth the time and price.
L. B.
Very interesting and informative. There's a good tasting session and excellent discounts if you choose certain packages
M. O.
The collection of Scotch whisky was amazing! Introduction to the aromas in whisky was quite interesting.
M. C.
The Whiskey Experience was perfect. If you're looking to spend an hour or so right near the Castle, DO THIS! For a reasonable price you get a little ride to learn about whiskey, then a short little movie narrated by one of their friendly tour guides along with learning about the different types of Scotch Whiskey. Then they take you into their Largest Scotch Whiskey collection room where they let you taste the whiskey AND you get to keep the glass it comes in.
Great for first timers and you can browse their gift shop with lots of whiskey to buy and take home.
I've included a photo of one of the first bottles of scotch whiskey manufactured as well as a mirror selfie of my friend and I in the room with the collection of whiskey.
C. B.
I went there with my girlfriend a couple of years ago. I lived in Edinburgh for 6 years and never went, so I thought I'd take my girlfriend on a trip to show her Scotland! It was great fun. The tour was good and the tasting was great. The tasting stated off quiet but by the 4th drink the crowd was a lot louder!! The gift shop is also great. Worth going back in the future. The restaurant was also great.
S. T.
It was conveniently located and enjoyable. Our hostess/guide was informative and funny. Upgraded our ticket and enjoyed a delicious meal afterward.
L. R. J.
Good experience, however it was a little bit uncomfortable for the group of people that was with us in the tour since one person was coughing and with a running nose and they tell her notting! She was coughing even in front of the receptionist and he mute himself.
D. C.
An absolute must visit, the tour here is really amazing! Learnt a lot about Scottish whisky and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The barrel tour was nice to start, then we got a run through of the main whisky regions of Scotland. Next stop, The Vault, where the largest whisky collection in the world is held. One word of warning to those on the silver tour (£15 per person), you only get to choose one whisky shot to try so choose carefully! Added bonus- you get to keep the whisky glass as a souvenir. If you enjoy strong & bold flavours, try my favourite whisky - a smoky Islay single malt...
d.
Nice experience and price is good too. Must go for all whisky lovers.
V. Y.
The knowledge of the staff about whisky is so fantastic. I learnt so much from the tour. The bar at the end of the tour has beautiful views with a brilliant selection of whisky
B. T.
Detailed and unbiased tour. Very informative in a very relaxed and friendly environment. I would highly recommend this tour. All the staff have been well trained and were whiskey fans themselves, so could answer all questions
Y. W. K.
Amazing scotch whisky tasting experience. It’s an interactive tour bringing you back to the history of whisky production in Scotland.
It comes together with some whisky tasting, showcasing the different whiskies around the region.
It also has one of the most complete collection of whiskies in the world, many old and classic whiskies are stored here; the whisky chamber is something extraordinary.
Highly recommended for those visiting Edinburgh!
M. m. T.
Absolutely fabulous tour and the staff are so friendly. Our guide Kevin was brilliant friendly and entertaining
M. L.
I did the silver tour and it was a really great experience. It was fun yet incredibly informative. The thought put into all aspects of the tour was evident. We also snagged whisky glasses for ourselves. Our guide, Gregor, was knowledgeable and very happy to answer questions. Staff at the shop will help you find whisky if you ask them for it. If you like to taste more whisky, going for the gold tour would probably be worth it! Highly recommend coming here if you’re in Edinburgh.
G. C.
A great experience for the whisky lovers... recommend the platinum experience which includes a lovely meal and some more whisky...
K. A.
Great tour, worth every cent we paid.
We went on the Gold Tour where we got to try 4 whiskies after the tour.
Highly recommended.
A. L.
Good explanation of the the whiskey process. Only one note you dont have to all buy the gold tour. We were 4 on a tour and we could have bought only 2 gold tickets and shared the drinks. Used the balance to buy a bottle of whiskey. But in a good mood after drinks 2 sets of 4 drams of whiskey 😁😁😁
K. S.
Slick operation, ran really smoothly. Tour guide was knowledgeable about whisky and gave us recommendations for an eatery - which we tried and was delicious - If your a fan of whisky this is a for you.
E.
I did the taste of Scotland experience, which was fantastic. Our guide Gregor was extremely knowledgeable and funny. The whiskies we tried were great. The barrel ride was fun. The food at the Amber restaurant was extremely delicious and service was fantastic. One of the servers noted that the experience was bought for our birthday and gave us an extra drink. If you are in Edinburgh, definitely a must see experience, even if you just go to the Amber restaurant and whisky bar.
M. M.
My husband and I took the silver tour this afternoon and had a blast! The first 10 minutes are a ride in a barrel detailing how Scotch whiskey is made, and the rest of the 40 minutes were spent with a very sweet and enthusiastic tour guide (I forgot her name, but she's dark-haired, pretty, with a pleasant voice). At the end we had a tasting with one whiskey, which was perfect for me since I'm not a big fan of the stuff. The Peat the cat silhouettes throughout the tour were an adorable touch.
P.
Surprisingly fun and knowledgeable tour, personally I dont drink so not sure about the tasting part but overall lovely experience and perfect place to spend some time prior or after the visit to the castle
N. V.
I had a gold tour followed by a taste of Scotland tour. The experience was very nice and had the potential for a rating of 5/5. However there was some things that should be improved. First, in 2022 it is inammissibile to have to book and pay over the phone, there are nowadays plenty solutions that allows online booking and payment. Second, there was a room with some displays about casks and whisky colours, I guess they were very interesting but if you are one of the last people in the queue you have literally no time to take a look because you have to wait the people ahead of you and as soon as all people are in the room you are invited to move to the next room. It's not fair since everyone pays the same price and should have the same right to see and enjoy the displays. Third, before the actual tasting you can taste a whisky that you choose among some representing the different region of Scotland. The problem is that these whisky are the same that will be served you during the tasting. Why would anyone want to taste the same whiskey twice within a few tens of minutes? It is absolutely a nonsense, please change either the whisky served during the tasting or the ones served before. Last, the experience is quite expensive, but the tasted whisky are all cheap entry level scotch of around £20-£30 per bottle (except Port Charlotte 10), I was honestly expecting better whisky for the price I paid. I would either lower the price of the tour or increase the quality of the whisky.
F. S. M.
Great tourist attraction. I learnt alot. The barrel ride could be soo much better. Either shorter or more information. A few gaps with nothing going on. Once that stopped the tour was great! Our guide was lovely and seemed to really know his stuff. Not a huge whiskey fan but enjoyed learning about the textures...colours...smells etc.
N. N.
I don’t even like whisky but this place is great. Excellent experience, great staff and perfect for all who are open to try something new.
M. v. d. H.
Very interesting tour and tastings, a must see for whisky enthusiasts!
V.
What a fun experience it was. Started off with a long wait even though we had booked as their barrels were not working properly that day. In the barrel tour where we learnt how whiskey was made and then the different flavours of whiskey and origins. An absolute must do activity. We had a lot of fun. We could choose the whiskey that we would like to taste. And finally you get to take home the whiskey glass as a souvenir.
C. A. M.
I Say one thing...
Amazing!
P. K.
If you know little-to-nothing about whisky this is place to visit. First, on a virtual tour, you'll be told how whisky is made. After that your guide will explain to you what are the difference between the 5 whisky-making regions. At the and you can try on of your choice (or more of you've booked the gold tour). The tour takes about an hour and gives you a basic understanding of how whisky is made and contributes to local economy. Let me recommend Cody for a guide. Very friendly with profound knowledge on the subject. Cheers!
K.
Visited during the 2 day Distillers Fair just before new years, got 4 additional single malt tastings for the basic Silver Tour. Amazing! They do it every year so if you're there for Hogmanay make sure you ask which day the fair is on, totally worth the wait!
Also note they do not sell tickets for future dates on site, you will have to purchase them online if you want to buy for future dates.
J. S.
OMG The Scotch Whiskey Experience was brillant am not into whiskey but by the end I wanted to try the whiskey. Our tour guide was amazing. If you r ever here definitely call and do it.
M. P.
Pleasant and enthusiastic staff. I did the gold tour, which is worth the £12 upgrade for a taste of 4 additional whiskies. Not the cheapest base price, but given its in the centre of Edinburgh, right next to the castle, I'm not surprised.
You get an infographic tour in a fun theme park style barrel (you don't get to see an actual brewery)
But I still enjoyed my time nonetheless
P. S.
One of the best attractions in Edinburgh. During the whole trip, we learn about the history of whiskey production and what characterizes whiskey from different regions of Scotland. At the end of the trip, we have access to a bar, where we can taste whiskey from around the world. Nice and helpful service. I recommend
D. L.
Very different from a distillery tour. Great overview of whisky making and description of blending. Fab bar with a large range of scotch whiskies. Good souvenir shop. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. I would highly recommend this experience.
s. k.
100% recommend this place,it's a great way to spend your time in Edinburgh.
K. C.
Amazing experience. From the barrel ride to the visual effects of the explanations, the production value was really high. Definitely worth paying for the gold tour as you then taste 5 whisky types (the silver is only one type). Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.
M. F.
Very nice and friendly staff. Definitely worth to visit. Specially if you’re fan of whiskeys
J. J.
Chris is a gem, keep hold of that one. The other chaps were nice but he clearly loves his job and has a great amount of knowledge, his passion came through very well. I didn't enjoy the whiskey sadly, but it was a fantastic and engaging experience which I would recommend. And if you like whiskey you will love this.
N. K.
We did the silver tour and it was absolutely not what we were expecting in the best way! There is a short ride at the start in which they tell you how scotch whiskey is made - this is done in a way that is easy to digest and you are not overloaded with information. Then, the tasting goes into full detail and you get a choice of what type of scotch you would like to try, based off of a scratch n sniff card. Then, an incredible room full of so many vintage and rare bottles. Highly recommend (and I don't even like whiskey)!
K. O.
This was such a wonderful experience! It was nice to be able experience a proper whiskey tasting in the heart of Edinburgh.
The staff were friendly, well informed and happy to answer any questions that we may have had.
C. G.
Been before but went with a friend on her first visit. Very informative and with the whiskey taster, well worth the money.
I.
Brilliant place to go, I've always liked Wisky and after visiting this place I can appreciate how it's made and where the flavours come from. The staff there are also very helpful in being able to find the Wisky with the type of flavour your looking for or perhaps one that will taste similarly to the one you like but at a cheaper price.
F. F.
A cool tour on the Scotland whisky history and production. All the staff is so cute and nice. The shop is cool and sellers are very pros.
A.
I was here 18 years ago and it was always a very good memory. Visited the place again today - even better than it used to be.
Recommended! Take the gold level and allow extra half an hour to enjoy you whisky at their bar.
S. R.
A tourist experience, but an amazing tourist whisky experience! We all walked away with great facts about the different whisky regions in Scotland and the guide was very knowledgeable.
P. R. (.
It was a great experience. Although we had to wait in the queue for more than 45mins, it was totally worth it. Great knowing about the whiskey of Scotland and the history. Highly recommend it if you are in Edinburgh for a tour!
G. C.
Gold tour - Very entertaining tour with impressive visuals and high-spirit guides with a wealth of knowledge on whiskey (shout out to Kev). The Amber bar is well worth a visit too, with a wall of whiskey to choose from, all at reasonable prices, and the bar staff are open and happy to share their own tastes and recommendations. Highly recommend.
P. S.
One of our party really likes whisky so we all went. Really enjoyed it and the tour guide Chris was exceptionally good during the tour making everything completely engrossing, informative, interesting and was more than happy to answer all our questions. Would highly recommend.
S. A.
I booked the golden tour here simply based on what information they provided on their website. If you want, I blindly trusted trusted them and I wasn't disappointed. The tour is definitely worth it. I won't describe it just not to ruin you experience, but I will say this: it's magical. Kevin was our guide and he shared his skills, knowledge and tips &tricks regarding Whiskey tasting. The shop has a great and qualitative variety of Whiskey and other products containing Whiskey. Even if you are not a true connaisseur at the time of booking, you'll be heading there after this tour
T.
Did the tasting tales with my girlfriend, Jethro was our host for the day.
Really passionate fellow, knowledgeable about all the whiskeys they have on offer.
I learned a lot about whisky that I never knew before this.
Would definitely recommend!
J. I.
You can ride in a whiskey barrel what more needs to be said. The tour and sampling itself I'd amazing and worth the entry fee. It's well done and full of facts. The whiskey vault I'd a marvel in itself.
The restaurant however is a clear after thought. Not well appointed, service is lacking and long waits with clear none reserved tables. Food is really good but portion size for the price is a let down.
L. S.
We booked a silver and a good tour and were delighted! The tour starts with a trip in a barrel describing the basis of whisky, followed by a deeper description of all the five types of Scotch. Finally, after walking through a magnificent whisky bottles collection, the degustation takes place.
Really recommended, and thanks again to you Holly, you made our day! :)
A. K.
Welcome to the whiskies heaven. An interesting and didactic visit. A nice and competent staff. A beautiful movie of Scotland on a wide screen. One thousand of various whisky bottles and of course a tasting of whisky. If you are a whisky lover don't miss it!
