Reviews of Equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington, Glasgow
M. H.
This is one of the must see sites when in Glasgow. Despite the best efforts of the city the cone always returns to the Duke and it makes this a whacky and bizarre site that will be one of the highlights of your trip.
Z. “. F.
Really, it is easy to love a town that takes the micky out of the famous and dead. Plus, the traffic witches hat makes a nice contrast to the usual seagull roosts. Put a smile on my face.
R. K.
The traffic cone really does well depicting the overall mood of the city. :)
M.
Nice monument, interesting history about the cone in its head.
C. R.
Always a great site to see, also now with a crocheted Ukrainian cone on his head.
T. M.
The iconic Glasgow image is now the Duke from a conflict hundreds of years ago with a traffic cone or 2 on his head , sums up the local sense of humour very well
M. m. P.
Located right in the centre of glasgow, the iconic statue is worth the visit. It normally supports the cone but with what’s happening in the world right now it has a different cone. Go have a look
I. M.
Silent, small, and quite interesting interior and cool exponats. Loved this stairs tho
E. F.
Funny & creative
S. S.
This is an iconic must see in Glasgow. The people’s statue and the people’s cone!
I. C.
This beconed statue has become a symbol of Glasgow's quirky sense of humour, and generally jovial outlook on the world.
The council have repeatedly tried to remove this iconic cone but it is always replaced. They even thought about adding an additional 10 feet to the plinth. Glaswegians were having none of it.
Popular culture holds that if you see him without his cone it falls upon you personally to replace said cone as a matter of urgency.
M. L.
A must see when walking around Glasgow. Close to Buchanan St so easy to get to and grab a quick photo.
L. N.
10/10 would visit again. Makes me smile everytime
C. R.

This is a Mandatory visit to check the cone of the moment!!
H. C. M.
An unlikely landmark in the centre of Glasgow which has become famous due to the traffic cones being placed on the Duke of Wellington head & on its horse, Glasgow city council has repeatedly removed the cones but after a public outcry they decided to leave them on as it sums the city & its inhabits up with regards to their sense of humour, you will always tend to see tourists taking pictures or selfies with the famous statue
W. R.
Some great folks.

(Translated) Statue of the Duke of Wellington. Located in the central area, right in front of the Modern Art Gallery.
Legend has it that in the 1980s a drunk Scotsman jokingly put a traffic cone on the poor duke's head (cursed Scots, they ruined Scotland. Cit. Willy). The municipality removed it several times and it was repositioned as many times. Now the statue with its strange hat is considered a unique work of art.

(Translated) The statue is a creation of the Italian sculptor Carlo Marochetti and was placed in 1844, outside the Museum of Modern Art. the Duke of Wellington's hat in Glasgow's Royal Exchange Square has been around for thirty years now. Once, some drunk thought it was a good idea to put a traffic cone on the head of the man who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. The cone was removed by City officials, but groups of merry Glasgow people, under the influence of alcohol, insisted on putting it back in its place. For Glasgow residents, the statue with the orange cone is now the emblem of the city

(Translated) Duke of Wellington Statue
It seems that someone at some careless moment played a joke on the duke's solemn memory, and that joke was institutionalized until it became one of the most representative icons (if not the most) of this great Scottish city. The sight of the bronze and its bonnet in front of the superb neoclassical of the Gallery of Modern Art are a postcard that no one is deprived of portraying. Not seeing it is like not having visited Glasgow.

Duke of Wellington Statue

(Translated) Glasgow landmark statue. The cone began as a joke probably by some drunk student and the city council spent thousands of pounds to remove them every year. Today it is part of the monument after signatures are collected to leave it through a Facebook campaign. On different occasions the color or decorations of the cone are changed, now it is with the flag of Ukraine. There have been more than 20 cones!

(Translated) Nice statue of General Arthur Wellsley, the later Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon in 1815 at the famous Battle of Waterloo. Since 1985 for some unknown reason, they have decided to put corpses on the head of the Duke and his horse. Whenever the local authorities tried to remove them, the corpses were back in place the next day. In the end it went viral and it was decided that the corpses would remain in the statue, which is why she is in this situation. The Scots have a strange humor ...

(Translated) The story behind this attraction is very funny and the Scottish move to show it on a key ring is very clever! Otherwise, for some it would be another "indifferent attraction"..
