Reviews of Mugdock Castle
B. B.
A nice old ruin with a fantastic area to walk around and take it the views. You are able get in amongst some of the old buildings but not the main castle. Can quickly become very busy as a popular walking route with people and their dogs.
B. a.
Nice castle to walk around especially later in the day I had it to myself.
Beautiful area for photography or eating a cream cake 😄
A. F.
Beautiful castle in a stunning park. Such a lovely walk and I enjoyed the seclusion - not a touristy place!
J. V.
Nice place with atmosphere situated in a lovely nature.
I. P.
A great place to visit, it is well kept.
B. L.
Great place for dogs and family any time of year. Multiple car parks and routes which can easily be looped back to each other. Visitor centre with toilets and coffee/food.
L. E.
Great public park for short or long walks, surrounded by beautiful woodland, leading to the Mugdock Castle ruin. Great place to take kids and dogs, plenty of space. Hot and cold drinks and snacks served at the restored castle stables. You can also walk through to a garden centre.
Q. S.
One of the most stunning public parks around. Some phenomenal walks and incredible scenery. Be sure to take the kids to the play park next to the visitors centre and into the wooded area to let them investigate the surrounds. A must visit, especially on a sunny day. Head round to the south car park and walk to the castle from there. A beautiful nature walk
m.
Ruined castle of Clan Graham. There are several information boards in around the ruins, which makes the visit more enjoyable, knowing what you're looking at.
F. L.

A beautiful place to stop and look. Plenty of exploring for little ones, or an amazing place for hide and seek! The tower is open usually, and has a small museum with local interests.
K. Z.
A castle ruin inside the country park. Not much too see here but still pretty interesting!
B. S.
Having ancestry from the Graham Clan, it was surreal to see this castle. Great informational signs are posted around, as well. I'm very glad we explored Mugdock!

Excellent day out for two oldies. Lovely walking surface and how nice to find an old castle that is easy to walk round and to. We'll with the trip.
P. C.
Gorgeous and lovely to learn about the Grahams. My husband and I eloped here in the castle and took wedding photos around the park. I could spend an entire day walking around the beautiful grounds, no matter the weather. This is one of my favorite places on earth!
a.
Lovely for a walk. Kids love to run around the grounds. Part of the castle is open for tours in the summer months. Interesting to visit but not suitable for young children due to a very narrow wooden staircase at the top.
H. S.
Betifull spot, just wear waterproof even if dry 😏
S. I. A. T. J.
Fun Castle plenty of info. Nice walk through the park.
L. J.
This is not the standard castle that you imagine, it is the ruins of a once beautiful castle. Walking through the castle was like walking through history, absolutely amazing!
R. “. L.
Suitable for all ages and abilities, pets welcome, arts and crafts, refreshments
J. M.
Very interesting little castle. Sometimes it is open to visitors. The you can go all the way up to the top where, on a clear day, you can expect an excellent vista. Very friendly staff introduces you to the castle and its history. Super for kids as they offer a little treasure hunt.
N. M.
An extremely popular walking destination and visitor attraction but it is diffiicult to access by vehicle along a 2 mile stretch of single track road. Good walking trails and historic points along the way. Also has a garden centre and a few cafes to enjoy.
D.
There isn't a huge amount left of this castle but what does remain is easily accessible and well documented through information boards. Nice to walk around and imagine what it must have been like in its heyday. Beautiful surroundings for walking.
G. P.
Nice and peaceful park to visit with family and friends. Lovely semi woodland walks around the estate. The children's playpark and adventure playground keep the kids entertained for a while.
C. L.
Love walking around here, especially when the schools have gone back! It is a little piece of heaven.
s. R.
Brilliant day out and nice long walks
J. M.
Absolutely brilliant day here. So much to do
M.
I've come here since I was a child, and thoroughly enjoy the park but contrary to the signs to keep dog on leads and under control, the sheer number of inconsiderate dog owners with no control over their animals (with no regard for the fact my children are petrified of dogs) has meant that I will no longer be visiting. Shame too, one of the best parks in Scotland.
L. S.
Lovely wee walk through the woods and past the pond, then up to the castle.
A shame people can't respect the signs telling them to not climb on the castle walls and it more and take their picnic rubbish home.
P. s.
Excellent picnic spot and enjoyable walk.
A. H.
Good for a walk and see where the gun turrets was
P. C.
Good place to go for a walk. Nice views out in the open and pleasant through the woods. The old castle is worth a look too.
W. F.
Excellent place for a quick stop and a bite to eat :)
P. L.
Want to see an old castle, this is it, although you cannot visit into it any more. Great grounds to walk around though, brilliant for walking the dog. Not too far from a great little coffee shop either.
F. G.
I walked thru the grounds on Friday.
Lovely. My only comment is that the Saltire on top of the castle needs to be renewed and secured properly.
Otherwise it was a great walk and great views.
S. D.
The trail up to it was a lovely climb complete with a peom across the ground part way up. The castle itself was a nice little wander and gave a magical extra feel to our first day on the WHW. Imo it was worth the extra kms.
M.
The ruins of the 14th century Mugdock Castle and the Victorian mansion built on its grounds. Information is provided and the castle is also sometimes open to visitors. The surrounding area is beautiful and is lovely to walk through.
