Reviews of The Courtyard
S. B.
I love this venue. Attended tonight to watch the movie "The Northman", I prefer to watch films here than at the nearby multiplex. In addition to movies I have been here for shows, music gigs, spoken word events, a car show and even a first aid course. Very clean and modern building, staff are always friendly. There is a bar and restaurant, great that you can take drinks into the auditorium.
M. B.
Nice modern intimate theatre with a warm atmosphere. Serving hot food and hot & cold beverages. A good selection of shows and up-to-date movies. Prices quite reasonable for a theatre. Did not sample food on this occasion however it did look homemade and smell good. Bar/restaurant area was Well staffed so wait and queue times were short, staff were very friendly and efficient. A pleasurable evening out, looking forward to the next show, oh and the food.
S. M. (.
great place. excellent staff. a very thoughtful space. lots of toilets, a good bar, large and inexpensive Parking. Great sound in the hall. The best seats on the balcony. upholstered chairs. and not expensive tickets.
M. M.
First time to visit this lovely theatre. Travelled from Birmingham and will certainly do so again. Staff were so lovely. Long queue at bar which at first put us off but they served folks so quick. Parking was easy too
T. P.
Excellent venue.
Facilities are brilliant as easy access to all areas.
Staff are always extremely friendly, polite and helpful .
We had supper in cafe bar and it was lovely.
Highly recommend this place .
K. B.
Far better on the inside than its exterior would have one think. Apparently doing good business on this particular Friday, but as this was our first visit, who'd know. If there's something in the future we'd want to see, we would see it there without feeling we'd be doing it in spite of the venue
J. T.
A very nice place, lots to do here, shows, cinema etc. Good parking also.
Have just seen The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra who were fantastic.
There's always shows or films on which I've always enjoyed. There are stewards around to help you if needed which is especially important during busy times as it can be hectic in the foyer/bar area.
I've been again tonight and saw the music of Carole King live on stage with a signing/dancing cast of 8. Again a good show and a good visit though couldn't park in the Courtyard car park, rare that it happens so not a problem as there's a multistorey CP across the road.
A. A.
We were there for a group meeting haven't been for years to the theatre but the foyer looks great.
m. b.
Lovely theatre with friendly staff and lots of creative spaces. They also serve Illy coffee one of my favourites #ukpfe
L. S.
A lovely place , the staff are helpful and friendly and the theatres are small and comfortable. Parking is brilliant and so is the restaurant.
D. I.
Superb show. Staff were excellent and most helpful and supportive of my needs as a wheelchair user in the face of another customer having sought to take the wheelchair space that I had reserved. Dealt with with sensitivity.
J. W.
"What an entertainment venue". That Said Chris Mc Causland live made the night .
Any shows on here are certain to be good.
J. J.
Some of my work is in a exhibition, don't know much about the cortyard, but the food was nice
O. S.
Very friendly staff and really lovely theatre and definitely somewhere I will come again.
H. O.
The Courtyard us like our second home! We go to see and take part in so many events here there's too many to list!
J. S.
Fantastic place. Thoroughly enjoy going there. Comfortable seats in Theatre and Cinema.
P. A.
Really enjoyed visiting, good food and service, great venue.
A. G.
Brilliant show and excellent food/service too. Highly recommended.
R. T.
Modern glass-fronted theatre with performance spaces of varying sizes. Large bar area that stays open well after the shows finish.
R. G.
Fantastic theatre for watching live music, just back from a Beatles tribute night, JUST AMAZING. 😎
m.
My family had a wake here for my late uncle, the food was fantastic , and a great place. Friendly staff, wish it was my local pub.
M. P.
Food, not had a bad meal yet, staff polite professional, a great place for entertainment
S. B.
Saw Al Murray here on Sunday.
Great show and excellent venue.
M. J.
Went see Roy Orbison and The Travelling Wilburys Tribute band. Excellent night.
Worth a visit to take in a live show
A.
A great space with activities and shows for the whole family
C.
More than just a theatre, its a community hub and does a lot more than just theatre & movies. Activities for all ages, comedy, raising money for charities & information events. I thoroughly enjoyed the talk on Jane Austen before the performance of Pride & prejudice which was absolutely amazing. Great night out x
M. K.
I've been to The Courtyard a few times over the last couple of months. Great experience, staff so friendly and helpful. Looking forward to the next visit.
P. N.
Brilliant little theatre and lovely terrace bar and restaurant! On my best list!
T. P.
Lovely theatre. Mix of modern in the bar and foyer, and a bit more traditional in the main house. It seats around 450 people but feels quite intimate. The bar is well stocked, although it can take a while to be served on busy evenings. The bar is right up against the restaurant tables so can be tricky to queue well. There is a charge of 50p for the plastic cups that can be taken into the main house so I advise taking your own keep cup (and help the environment too!). The food is so good, and there's plenty of seating. Great programme of events so give it a go.
M. D.
Great venue with great live shows. Highly recommended.
R. W.
First time to the courtyard and since its renovation it is more modern. Saw Al Murray last night which had been postponed 15 months because of covid. For his 2 hour stand up I would say the seats are not the most comfortable at all. Despite a break in-between your bum does go numb. You do get a lot of foot space but I would say if you have never been before then it isn't very well sign posted. There was no advertising that Al Murray was actually playing on the night. So we did have to ask where we was going
D. S.
Fantastic night. Amazing musicians!! Illegal Eagles
j. g.
Great place with lots of shows. Good food and bar. Close to city centre large car park but you need to pay.
E. R.
Great local theatre and excellent food. We went to see Great Expectations we're not disappointed.
W. H.
First time and the whole experience was fantastic. Great coffee and pain au chocolate and really enjoyable film(Dream Horse). Would recommend.
t. s.
Love the place - so much going on! Excellent variety of events, wonderful quiche/salad bar and staff always helpful. Very happy to support it - a great community facility.
J. B.
Clean, with helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable seating with good view in row C
S. a. D. M.
Watched Jodie Comer in Prima Facie...triumphant!
L. C.
Intimate local theatre with a good range of performances. Food in the cafe is great and not too expensive. Would go there just for lunch. The only drawback is the eye watering price of car parking - so 4 stars
L. T.
Yummy food. Good service and friendly staff. A great place to visit.
S. J.
Lovely watching my grandson doing a production of midsummer's night dream.
Well organised really enjoyed it.
M. F.
Fantastic show and a nice meal in the cafe bar beforehand. We are so lucky to have this place.
s. w.
Brilliant show bee gees tribute you win again if you have a chance to go to it on the tour go to it fantastic evening
K. A.
My visit was as a tenor horn player with BTM Brass Band for a concert for the Best of Brass initiative last weekend (9 June). The staff were lovely and the facilities even lovelier (fantastic acoustics). The Courtyard, as the name suggests, and it's foyer area is open, airy and has outside seating for eating and drinking before shows or during the interval - lovely on a balmy summer afternoon/evening such as it was last weekend. The cafe serves wonderful food: I had quiche with salad and a 'naughty but nice' cake. My husband, who was in the audience, said the seating was comfortable and the acoustics wonderful from an audience point of view. A real gem of a place.
B. C.
A great local theatre and arts venue, with a strong variety of shows and screenings, a relaxed bar and cafe, and very friendly staff. Fully recommended.
S. P.
My son and I visited yesterday to watch Sam and Mark, great show but also great venue. Always so clean and tidy. Stewards are lovely and friendly.
J. W.
Lovely little theatre friendly helpful staff and good food.
M. R.
What an amazing night, thanks to Mel and the team for a great experience! Thanks to all the cast for a wonderfully fun evening!
m.
What a lovely theatre. We went to see our son in the Roald Dhal literacy presentation where his school did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and they were amazing (as were the other 2 schools). Good seats and well laid out. The restaurant looked great too and if we hadn't have already booked Pizza Hut we would have eaten there. Great place!
D. M.
Brilliant place to eat and drink. Nice for films and entertainment
N. G.
Lovely venue with well thought out variety of events, now fully reopened they have used the downtime well to make it even better
H. G.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. A great place to meet friends for a coffee and also go to one of the many events on offer. I am happy to support this place however I can as it the only such arts venue in Herefordshire and we would be the poorer without it.
J. H.
I go to the court yard several times a year to see shows, performances and guest acts. It is a venue i do enjoy going too and have a social drink while attending. Typically i feel the service i recieve is to a high standard. It was unfortunate however that on my last visit it was felt that that standard had slipped. This was to do more with the service of the bar and the quality of a drink ordered. Bar staff concentrated on one end of the bar and was not paying attention to who was next to serve. Meaning people were waiting longer to be served. But also once finally served the taste of the drink as if it had gone off. I hope to think this was a one off occasion.
A. B. J.
A good variety of shows although the seats are a little uncomfortable.
A big let down is the car park. There is free parking for Blue Badge holders in designated spaces but there are only six spaces. If you don't get a space then the parking is very expensive.
Why not let badge holders park free in any space?
I have had a reply to say that badge holders can park for free so I have a picture of the information I was given at the time of buying a ticket.
It states, 'in any marked bay' with the blue disabled image next to it. ♿
I and several other disabled people interpreted this as only being able to park in a marked disabled bay and so had to pay over £4.
I disagree that the signage is clear.
J. H.
Food excellent & service great. But Salsa class should have been held somewhere else below our table of 14. It was so loud it made it difficult to hear ourselves speak which sadly spoiled an otherwise lovely meal.
S. L.
First time visitor from outside of Hereford. ....stopped by for a spot of lunch and must admit absolutely incredible food.....staff are friendly and courteous. ..food was light, refreshing, tasty and the surroundings were visually pleasing.....would definitely recommend The Courtyard and will 100% be attending again when i return to Herefordshire ....many thanks... Sunny!
D. S.
Lovely environment to sit and have coffee and they have beautiful salad and quiche, but wouldn't have cake because I went on a Tuesday to be told all cakes were Saturdays by assistant so we left very disappointed.
J. P.
Always love visiting here whether it's to watch a performance or film or even pop in for a drink and snack. Staff are always lovely.
P. B.
The Courtyard has great ambience with an open lobby with seating outside, on the ground floor and a mezzanine level. It has both cinema and theatre. Good food available before the cinema. I had a risotto and my wife a quiche, from a wide variety, and a salad. Friendly and helpful service. Cinema was very hot which distracted from an excellent documentary.
J. C.
Wonderful experience, lovely position by the River, wonderful accommodation loved the Spa Bath, delicious breakfasts, brilliant golden anniversary celebration. Thank you
N. J. H.
Excellent local arthouse film screenings, Borderlines film festival has a good range of film choices, on site cafe serving food throughout the day. One star lost for uncomfortable seating in the main auditorium, discomfort detracts from the cinematic experience.
D. P.
This year's panto, Jack and the Beanstalk is unbelievably good. It delivers on so many levels for all the family. Highly recommended.
N. T.
Saw the excellent "Gansta Granny" this evening, staff were great, show was great. They had boosters seats for the kids (Malvern take note!) and it all went smoothly. Only issue was my interval drink was served in a glass, which you can't take into the theatre!? Perhaps should've suggested a "plastic" which is allowed, before pouring.
Katie the deputy manager was very helpful, and we even had a short chat with one of the stars at the bar after the show!
J. S.
This is the bees knees place to come . The buidling is great. The ambience and seating is super. Aladin was a super play - I love every second. I was and company present thoroughly enoyed such a trilling show - beats going tot he cinema hands down any day. Huge parking space.
W. B.
Excellent meal and helpful assistance
L. S.
Brilliant as always
A. T.
Another great show..... Strictly murder........ Thanks for making the whole cast and team feel right at home especially Adam the Tour driver. Nice and polite staff and a special thanks to the two cleaning ladies. Best regards Adam Thirkettle from ZG Stardust Logistics and Talking Scarlet.
M. P.
Amazing, fun place for all the family aways lots on to watch an do
d. b.
Just been to watch the Upbeat Beatles. Totally fantastic night. They are incredible. Lots of audience participation great gig great show and great guys. Well done xxxxx
B. H.
Nice shows and very good bar food.
A. S.
A wide range of arts and cultural events including live theatre, music, dance, comedy club, films, exhibitions and educational classes for both young and old, take place in the various spaces available within the Courtyard. The restaurant bar serves good quality food and drinks, including tea and coffee, in the open atrium or more private mezzanine. People, both local and travelling through, use the Courtyard for meeting friends informally for coffee, reading the daily paper or catching up on their emails or social media via the free Wi-Fi. Children can play with the toys provided under the watchful eye of their parents.
Business and local groups are able to hire various rooms and spaces, including the main house, for private and public meetings symposiums and exhibitions. The staff are friendly and very helpful.
This is all set within a good looking modern building with an outside eating area and easy car parking (charges apply). Wheel chair access is very good with a lift to all floors A very good and valuable local centre for use by everyone.
K. V.
I wish I knew the courtyard showed films sooner. I took my children to watch Mary Poppins Returns. I booked my tickets online but picked them up at the desk. All the staff were so friendly, everything was so relaxed there We were able to take our own sweets and popcorn into the showing. We decided to stop for food after the film, everything is reasonably priced. I had the lasagne and it was lovely, one of the best lasagne I'd tasted, came with a huge side salad and chips. The only thing which we didn't like was whilst eating there was a huge group of people right next to our table and they were chatting & coughing a couple of times knocked into my daughter's seat which was quite annoying, they werent eating or waiting for food so maybe a little barrier around the tables may have been good to stop people from doing that but that hasn't stopped me from wanting to go again
D. H.
Went to Panto with family. The show was great, even though our seats were terrible. You can pre-order interval drinks - they serve Butty Bach (Great Herefordshire beer).
J. G.
Excellent night out, little lacking in atmosphere in the eating area, a bit confusing car parking tarrifs but helpful friendly staff.
S. K.
Went to the Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, with my family. Absolutely brilliant. My 15 months old granddaughter loved every moment of it. Booked for next year before we left!
S. P.
Went to see a fab comedian here, the bar staff were polite, quick and efficient. Lovely lady showed us where we were going and where we were sat. Lots of people there so it was very cramped.
A. W.
A jewel in Herefords crown. Smallish place but jammed with events, gigs, acts etc. I just saw comedian Romesh Ranganathan (full house) for 2hours trying out new material in a hilarious set for about 20 quid. Bar is surprisingly cheap considering we were a captured audience.
G. N.
Great venue, with a very helpful staff
r. t.
Nice food, simple but tasty food. Reasonable prices. Quite noisy when busy. Very light, hough ceilings. Helpful staff.
Parking charge should be unessasry for community resource.
A.
Lovely place, just called I'm to collect my pantomime tickets but was greeted by really helpful and friendly staff. Did stop for a coffee in their restaurant and again friendly staff and not a bad price for the coffee. They also offer a selection of drinks and food and did see quite a few reserved tables . Can't really comment on anything else as not seeing the pantomime till after Christmas.
J. o.
Excellent venue, quality of shows has improved
C. P.
Wide range of events..cafe bar has good food + drink options..I never feel out of place if I go on my own to see films/screenings. Highly recommended.
r. b.
great place, amazing theatre experience and staff are always friendly and helpful
M. B.
Lovely venue, food is good but would benefit from more Gluten free choices.
P. H.
A brilliant little theatre, I always choose to take the children there to see films as it's much cheaper than the Odeon and much less overwhelming sound etc. The children's theatre productions have always been fantastic too.
J. E. D.
The courtyard is a lovely venue to have in Hereford. However it's visible that it has been struggling financially due to the general appearance of the establishment and overall feel inside. I think it just needs to more custom to overcome this issue. There is a wide variety of media shown here that really suits all ages and cultures. It just needs a helping hand to get back on the top peg of being Herefords No.1 cultural venue.
J. W.
Absolutely brilliant night tonight with Jasper Carrott & his Stand Up & Rock Tour! Shame that the taking of photos or videos was banned though! The Courtyard did Hereford proud hosting this event - big thank you!
A. H.
cakes are good
coffee is okay
seating and parking(although a bit expensive) is great
A. M.
Good theatre, seating comfortable and well set out - you can see the stage
P. R.
Great film Great price Great staff
L. O.
Great arts centre that encourages the community to get involved. It's not only about the theatre and films there's also the wonderful cafe bar with very tasty food. The annual pantomime is a must.
S. S.
Good coffee, great salads. Alternates between very quiet and very busy. Worth checking out the exhibitions from time to time if you're that way inclined
N. M.
Amazing facilities and performances. I go there every year and its wonderful. Well done to all the performers in Peter Pan this year!
r. t.

J. F.
Lovely salads. Great variety and friendly staff. Love to go here.
C. R.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime Peter Pan very well performed and great one liners for the adults. Great entertainment for all ages.
N. B.
Good venue but getting a drink at a popular show can be a drag
D. P.
A treasure in the Midlands, The Courtyard is a wonderful place for live theatre, music and comedy, film and performance. It's a beautiful building and houses a café-restaurant with excellent food and drink.
G. S.
Great show and good food beforehand!
D. N.

M. H.
I would recommend to everyone. The people which help run the place are A1.
The shows are amazing and try and take my grandma to them as much as I can, the same with my little cousins
J. D. W.
Great team in place at the Courtyard, Hereford! Couldn't get over the standard of equipment in house - outstanding facilities in place. A gorgeous venue on the outside and in.
J. H.
A good provincial venue, with a lot on. Theatre and cinema with a licenced restaurant which offers good value snack style meals. If the car park full be aware the side streets are now (2019) under a residential permit arrangement. Parking at multi story about 400m away.
R. G.
Great modern theatre. Comfortable seating, with good view of the stage.
Excellent staff.
L. H.
A lovely venue, with a main and studio theatre. The cafe serves drinks, snacks and lunch. There is a large pay and display car park.

L. C.
Nice place yummy cake and food nice relaxing place to meet friends and enjoy a chat 😊
R. S.
Nice relaxed atmosphere ...good food and drink
R. H.
Just a great place to go to
S. T.
For a small theatre they put on some really good plays but if your seat is on the balcony the large pillars are an obstacle to seeing the stage
T. B.
Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage great evening of Music ... Must see 😊
M. P.
Absolutely cracking performance of sleeping beauty this afternoon. Just a shame Hereford's new road lay out is a complete and utter shambles causing utter kaos thru the town to get to carpark.
H. C.
Always a very enjoyable, comfortable experience

Lovely venue. Very disabled friendly. Yummy food and very helpful staff & volunteer stewards
M. S.
Great asset to Hereford that needs supporting. I did find however the auditorium temperature on the cold side during Porgy & Bess.
C. W.
A great asset to Hereford. Venue for films, live screenings of opera, ballet and theatre and live performances of comedy, music and drama. Fantastic food (definately recommend Jan's fish pie!) and for much of the year you can have Saturday lunch and enjoy free live music. Brilliant.
S. H.

Avoid ordering a cooked meal after a performance. One can be waiting a long time. Otherwise no complaints! The Courtyard deserves to be supported. Good programme.
A. D.
A community theatre and cinema in modern surroundings. An excellent eating option too. A good place to meet and chat, business or pleasure.

Do not sit upstairs if you are scared of heights. It has a terrifyingly steep pitch to the seats!
F. M.
Great venue! Lovely acoustics and an open, congenial space for creative arts.
N. J.
Great selection of events. Good amount of drinks choice. Parking expensive.
A. B.

Had a lovely visit to the courtyard to see the panto. Had a fantastic meal which was really tasty and great value for money.
M. J.
Nice venue, good variety of shows, films, plays and concerts over the year.
C. D.
Saw circus of horrors and spirit of the dance in the same week. Very contrasting shows. Row C for circus of horrors fab seat. Was up in the gods for spirit of the dance....I would not recomend it. Fine view but oh so hot and for me a touch claustrophobic. I did feel a long way up in a narrow room. However excellent service all round. Bar staff extremely efficient and when engaging with other staff all very helpful. I can't wait to go again .
Χ. Ρ.
Relaxed atmosphere, very good food, friendly staff and of course good choices for theatre and cinema
H. S.
What a wonderful night l, thank u all who made it possible

e. m.
Hereford's cultural centre. Don't miss the borderline film festival. Top films this year. Green Book, Aga, Mary Queen of Scots, Collette. Good value. Essential service.
J. M.
Lovely theatre which also provides fantastic food at reasonable prices.
G. D.
Excellent sound system. Fantastic shows. Graham Doody. PS hence five stars!
J. d.
The have lots of different shows, lots of parking, restaurant is good food, price good to and lots of space.
D. D.
Not enough staff to cover the bar, so we couldn't get a drink in time. Not enough parking, disappointing.
J.
Arts cinema with good titles including some classics that you don't often get the chance to see on the big screen.
C. J.
Fab meal at a good price.
A. W.
Fantastic evening at the Panto. Well done to all.
J. S.

We had a meal on the balcony, but they had Salsa night (which they didn't inform us of) it was so loud we couldn't hear each other talking.

I have to say a great big thank you to The Courtyard for helping me propose to my beautiful girlfriend now wife to be on stage, while watching Peter Pan on the 15th December 2018, she said YES in front of 400 people, I do apologise my singing wasn't great on the night by the way, we can't have it all lol. Once again thank you xx

Saw Buddy Holly and the Cricketers. A really good night at a lovely venue.

Went to see sister act, great show only spoilt by the ridiculously overbearing heat within the theatre.
J. L.
Great shows and films
L. J.
Great place. Always enjoy the shows here.
i. c.
Went to see Tolkien film. 2.20 to park, 8.50 for ticket, no oap discount a bit steep. Coleford cinema by contrast is only £5. Receptionist condescending and could barely hear her speak. Good to see usherette with torch as cinema very dark.
P. K.
A great venue for stage shows, not bad for a modern theatre.
Z. O. S.
This is a fantastic intermate theatre, will well graduated seating so you are unlikely not to be able to see because of a tall person in front of you, boxes available as well. A wide variety of plays throughout the year, always a fantastic pantomime and it seems to be on the comedians circuit with some big names coming to play.
