Reviews of Ipswich Waterfront
J. B.
Beautiful and Serene Waterfront. Lovely for a nice day out with the family. Plenty of options and choices for food and drinks!
There is a chain gate that keeps people from falling in so I would strongly suggest younger kids are kept hand in hand and unless your pets like to swim...keep them on a leash!!!
We stayed in a Penthouse with Amazing Views!
M. C.
Lovely spot, especially love Kult for a drink or a coffee although not open every evening. Perfect for a late afternoon/ evening stroll. September is best because when footy is on its quiet and all the boats are back in marina as sun sets.
A. R.
Not been here before but it was a nice place to take a walk and see the quay. Lots of cafe bars to choose and we enjoyed a coffee and people watching. Worth a visit
A. V.
Nice walk through Marina. Lots of little coffee shops and brunch places. Options to park near buy, to eat on a boat or go for a little tour by boat. Benches on a way, so easily can sit down and enjoy the view. Nice and tidy. You walk through university too. They have lively, cosy coffee place too. Not much to do with a kids, unless they like boats. You could go to the museum on the water front, however, it has been gone for few months now.
A. S.
Lovely Place, lot of shops, restaurants, plenty of walking space, parking facility also not that much bad, specially evening time in the lights it's more beautiful to take pictures
A. C.
We were there on what has been the hottest day of the year, the waterfront was very busy. There are quite a few eateries along the front or close by to it. Not being able to find an outlet to a particular taste would be fairly difficult I would imagine. With the marina providing the backdrop to the front, the was a great variety of boats to capture ones attention. Worth a visit but in these Covid - times it may be worth booking - ahead, or being prepared to queue.
p. h.
Very nice place. With many cafes and restaurants to go for lunch or dinner.
M. B.
A pleasant peaceful walk along the Waterfront. Ipswich Wet Dock. Completely changed over the years; we used to drive all the way.
S. G.
Lovely place for a nice leisurely stroll lots of places to eat and drink even nicer in the evenings when lit up.
M. H.
Very impressed with the range of cafés and bars (daytime) a lively place to stop and eat/drink while watching the boats
B. B.
Nice place. Briarbank brewery's taproom is here along with other tempting looking restaurants and places to stay. Brewdog arriving here soon too.
C. C.
Good for strolling in the evening for sunset. Great for photo taking too.
P. S.
Very relaxing. Places there for coffee ☕️, drink 🍸 and food

S. F.
Nice place to wonder plenty of choices for food or drink.
S. P.
Its beautiful! Its airy and the local services are great. There's lots of cafés too which are great to relax in. Once you've walked around, there's nothing else. Its great for a daytrip.
V.
A little quiet, not a lot happening but it maybe the time of day we visited. Nice for long walks. Will be back.
V. D.
It is a beautiful place to walk, a nice restaurant and bars to have a great time in front of the waterfront
A. W.
A wondwr open soace for a walk or a run or a coffee. Really a nice place
a. n.
Very nice scenery with number if yacht and multiple bars on the side by.
s. m.
This is a great place if you like ships, yachts and general harbour life. It is a commercial port not just a marina. Always been lucky with the weather. We usually go to the University coffee shop which is right on the quay. Never used a restaurant.
R. J. B.
One end is beautiful. The other end -an old dump !Has bin for years. Bout time Ipswich and council partners etc.took more and faster action.
S.
There isn't much at this waterfront for the visitor of a tourist nature. Looks to be a very good moorings. Large with a lot of facilities. There were large machines at work lifting boats out of the water to what looks like a lot of work so facilities. I'd imagine any body owner would be happy with it.
P.
Regeneration has made it a nice place to drink and eat with waterside bars and restaurants. We sat and watched the lovely boats come and go .a pleasant visit was had
T. A. -. F. L.
It's a nice & clean waterfront. With some nice restaurants & entertainment establishments, creating a quite lively place. It's a great place for just walking around.
S. M.
S Victor. Very nice cream tea trip. Especially the happy birthdays and anniversaries part of the trip
K. W.
Lovely place to go for a walk or food and drink. Clean environment.
K. D.
Nice place to rest and have packed lunch and watch the boats in the mariner.
w. 1.
Great place for a stroll and enjoy seeing the boats before and after a meal at one of the cafés/bistros
R. O.
You can usually go for a nice walk along the front, few places you can stop off and go for a coffee or something stronger if you like. But when there's an event on it does get very busy.
T. W.
They have really done well transforming this harbour .. lovely mixed architecture .. worth a visit
T. B.
One of the more pleasant areas in Ipswich town, quite a few nice places to eat , have a drink & socialise, very friendly around here, people actually greet & speak to each other.
More development necessary to bring it on par with other marina areas.
k. m.
I live in the flat next to gorgeous waterfront which is one of the prime location in Ipswich. Must visit place with glorious sunset view and cool bars and restaurants. Kids got lot of space to wheel and skate.
N. P.
The view is beautiful. Good restaurants and cafes around.
C. C.
Great range of places to eat, drink or rest mid cycle. Superb views of marina and plenty of space.
R. S.
Fantastic balls to abroad the riviera Spain and the squits! Greece with the fat woman and stinky breth so called men! Russia who will end up 3rd world farmers! And that tosh below deck program I'd give that blond captain stuck up tart a good seeing to in the stern! Ipswich is the place to be! Big up to the office planners job well done!!
P. O.
One of the Orwell Lady's theme events, excellent for something different to do, also day trips available.
E. R.
Good place with plenty of food and drink options. Not enough seating unless you are in a cage or bar
W. H.
Very nice place at harbour a lot of coffee shops and pubs and amazing hotels. I was staying with my husband a few years ago in the Salthouse Harbour Hotel. Beautiful hotel
B. D.
Beautiful, peacefull, relaxing atmosphere, great walks in the summer one the waterfront
S. E.
Lovely place to just walk around, chill, eat, hang out, cycle, etc.
P. P.
Beautiful location for a leisurely stroll with friends - stopped at Isaacs for a cold drink break. Very enjoyable
a. j.
Always a pleasure to take a stroll along the waterfront to see all the boats and grab a coffee and watch the world go by
S. S.
Beautiful and pleasant place for a walk with many restaurants near the water. The marina is especially beautiful at night, when the glittering lights of the boats are magically reflected in the water mirror surface creating an extravaganza of colors. Take a walk, dine at the nearby restaurants and enjoy.
J. I.
Beautiful harbour lights reflected in the still water of Neptune Marina at night.
S. W.
Amazing views, if you in Ipswich definitely go check out the waterfront it’s beautiful
K. M.
Fascinating place, quiet yet gently lively. Some good places to eat.
C.
Lovely snowy walk a long waterfront. The Ark looked massive, even next to the warship.
A. P.
Nice bars, cafe's and restaurants, well worth a visit
G. H.
Nice place for walk with good restaurants and coffee shops .....
C. D.
Never been here before. Because of the poor weather it was difficult to rate. I was surprised by the large number of expensive yachts and motor cruisers. It could have been a classy Mediterranean marina! There were a number of places to eat on the quay side which is just what we needed.
A. K.
Ipswich Water front is one of the beautiful places I have visited. Ipswich full with small and large boats.
S. W.
It’s an amazing view, very beautiful. 100% recommend
J. W.
Really pleasant area with bars, restaurants and tourist attractions
J. A.
This is my second visit to Ipswich waterfront. It is lovely here. Our visit this time involved a visit to the Ark exhibition. There are a variety of cafes and restaurants as well as being a very scenic place. On my first visit I spent a lovely hour sitting outside a cafe watching the world go by. Very relaxing and very pleasant. Boat trips are available which is something I will do on my next visit.
I. B.
Didn't live up to the Hype got the impressions lots of shoos and cafes from the tourist blurb, no shops few cafes
L. H.
We absolutely loved it such a lot to do great if you have kids. The meerkat were a joy
T. W.
It's the waterfront, students hang about here as Suffolk University campus is based on the waterfront, along with some fairly sterile and superficial bars and restaurants, including a pizza chain. The historic custom house is a welcome break from glass and steel frontages and the marina adds interest with views across to the less than picturesque docks across the water. As a hub it's passing fair, parking is quite restricted and set aside around 30 mins to explore fully with time to spare.
H. H.
Dog friendly and great food. Security even went out of their way to give our dog a bowl of water when I went to get drinks.
s. s.
Amazing place. I r ally enjoyed my walk along the promenade. You can also enjoy a coffee or a meal with a nice view.
c. p.
Vibrant buzzing area lots of café bistro restaurants very pleasant by the water
T. A.
Very pleasant walk but not a patch on Plymouth.
J. R.
It's always nice to come out and walk around the waterfront, specially on sunny days!
H.
Decent place to stroll in good weather. Few bars and restaurants to check out
V. J.
there are many restaurants and places where you can where to eat here quietly and beautifully we were here with a friend
J. F.
Great views with eatery's and bars to suit most pockets.
J. T.
Ipswich water front is a great place to visit with bars and restaurants with seats alone the water front this is a great place in the summer months for a meal and a drink.
D.
Area has obviously been developed which makes for a pleasant walk along the Waterfront, and there are ample places to stop for coffee and food. Visited the town centre before we walked to the Waterfront and, although both areas were worth a visit, perhaps more thought could be put into the area in between which looked very tired and down. That is a personal observation though and doesn't take away that the Waterfront is well worth a visit if you're in the area.
S. L.
Very nice stroll along the marina. Plenty of cafes to sit outside and look over the water
S. A. a. B.
A very pleasant walk. Quite a few restaurants and cafes.
M. E.
It was so nice seeing all the boats in the marina especially as the sun was out
S. M.
Definitely more upcoming these days than in years past, especially having now completed the 'winerack' block of apartments, for so long a blot on the skyline.
R. F.
Ipswich waterfront is a lovely place for a stroll, a meal or drink or two especially on a nice summer day cheers
J. G.
Nice atmosphere, plenty of places to eat & drink.
K. C.
Stayed at the Salthouse Hotel and woke up to the waterfront view each morning and it was amazing. Looked great for jogging too
B. B.
In desperate need of some seating for people to enjoy the area rather than have to pay to use a cafe or bar.
C. G.
Lovely place to walk on a sunny day, with lots of places to eat and drink - inside and out. Busy, but plenty of space (during the day anyway). I don't really go when the weather is bad, but I suspect it still has its charms!
P. M.
Excellent place for a stroll or some exercise. The far end of it is a bit lacking in purpose but it could easily be renovated to accommodate more business or even be turned into a "park" of sorts for a more relaxing time in contrast with its more busy counterpart. Highly recommended if you want to visit it alone or with family/friends.
W. L. P.
It's nice, checking out all the boats. Some nice cafes by the marina. There isn't an awful lot to do, but if you are in the area, worth dropping by for a coffee or two, if the weather is good and you need to kill a few hours. I won't make a special trip there though.
J. W.
I work just behind here so visit most days. As a local I find it a relaxing place for my lunch break
m. b.
Went to Isaac's, nice atmosphere, staff are friendly, food good, sometimes have live music.
S. R.
Planning to take a nice and calm evening walk? Then this is the place for it.
d. m.
Ipswich maritime festival was on, all in all was good and had a buzzing atmosphere, only thing that let it down is there was no food places that catered for vegetarian, nice place to go at night to relax and look across the water at the boats,
W. G.
Lovely to get away from the shops and chill over a coffee
C. A.
Never been to Ipswich before and was pleasantly surprised by this. Lots of bars and restaurants and even with restrictions still in place, it was a hive of activity
M.
Nice place to visit lots boats n ect
D. C.
When visiting out this way we always enjoy a walk along the docks. There are a number of restaurants and bars for you to relax and enjoy the view of board arriving. Car park close by, so we often grab ourselves a bag of chips and sit in front of the water.
C. W.
Been a few times, lovely in the summer but winter and covid its a bit bleak.
T. S.
Mixture of old and (mostly) new buildings, with University of Suffolk campus and plenty of dining options
M. S.
Beautiful setting when the sun is shining.
M. C.
Nice place to visit but the pubs are mostly busy. Free to visit but you have to pay for parking
K. T.
Well worth a trip to Ipswich Waterfront - lots of marina facing cafes/restaurants 👍🏻 Most of the area is pedestrianised & has big wide paths.
J. G.
Nice views and clean most of the time.
T. H.
Lovely weather for a stroll along the waterfront. Unfortunately on the way to my dentist appointment, fortunately only a checkup.
P. F.
Nice walk along the water front . Stops for a refreshing drink available
S. B.
A work in progress place what has been renovated is very good
Y. L.
Excellent food from what I have had so far, was not expecting to have this as we were just passing by, so much better than JRC ilford on the day...
V. K.
What to say about this place, this is place simply amazing. This is one the best places I have visited in Ipswich. Very good place to chit chat with families, friends or colleagues. There is so space to roam around. I have even seen many children playing here. Everyone will surely enjoy this place. It's good visit this in any kind of weather.
W. C.
Lots to see, particularly improvements. Walking is safe and free.
c. b.
Very nice place to visit would recommend
A. S.
Very nice place to see on a sunny day.
M. M.
In the height of the season and in non covid times, the waterfront was a pleasant place to go and view the different types of boats and maybe watch a couple sail into dock. Today, however, was very quiet. Not much in the way of activity happening. Although a few coffee shops are open refreshments and pastries
B. G.
Amazing place for a nice walk in the evening...
J. H.
Went for the first time ever when I came down from Wakefield very nice a few buildings need up grading like every where else but clean some nice eateries and local pubs.
P. L.
Lovely place to eat in front of the boats . Easy parking in Total parking Ltd. Just behind the pubs on the waterfront.
D. M.
Great day out starting from here on the Victor sailing barge
G. J.
I'm sure it is fun in summer but very quiet in winter
S. H.
Nice walk around the harbour, lots of places for eating and drinking
G. F.
Good area for a short Stay and something to eat
R. H.
Clean , bustling plenty going, on nice variety of eating places
k. h.
Coffee cat- best place to eat!
P. O.
I like Ipswich waterfront even when nothing's on, however when there's an event the whole thing comes to life brilliant love it one of my favourite places in Ipswich.
f.
Lovely place, nice restaurants and bars and lots of nice boats.. just a couple of buildings that need to be demolished and they should throw some palm trees down and it'll be perfect imo 🙂
D. P.
This waterfront can get busy in the summer with tourists but it’s still a great place to visit. Whether you just want a stroll around the marina to look at the boats or you’re after a coffee or meal. Here there is something for everyone. Further around from the quay is The Aurora which seems to be the place to be seen. I didn’t rate the service or the food but it’s definitely popular with many so maybe it’s just me. The other restaurants on the whole are much of a muchness from the Bistro in the Quay, the Last Anchor, The Waterfront bistro to the Mariners and the Salhouse hotel. All serve excellent quality food with a price that matches it but I would suggest you book to secure a table. You won’t be disappointed with whichever you visit. There are three or so cafes on the Quay too and their food is clearly a lot simpler but equally good. There is a pizza express restaurant that has a lovely view of the harbour but be warned the service is rubbish and the manager is rude and probably doesn’t deserve your custom. There is Isaacs which serve pub grub and fish and chips to takeaway if you wish. All in all, it’s a hive of activity.
D. C.
Nice bars and restaurants along the waterfront.
M. H.
Beautiful place for taking pictures. Looks amazing on a sunny day ☀️
J. N.
A really nice place to stroll and admire the area with its bars and resteraunts
M. L.
Beautiful setting with the boats could be any harbour in the world !
D. R.
Not bad but the coffee shops think they're in London
A. H.
Great place to go for a walk.
Lots of fabulous cafes, restaurants and bars.
J. W.
Like walking and looking at the water when I need time to reflect and think. Lots of places to sit and eat too. Uni
J. H.
Great place to people watch and soak up the atmosphere.
H. H.
Fabulous. Always visit when in Suffolk. Nice cafes and restaurants and lively views
W. A.
A beautiful sight and cool freeze with eateries around it for relaxation
b. d.
Nice place to take a walk and look at the many exquisite boats moored in the marina. There are plenty of restaurants should you wish to get something to eat or drink too.
b. j.
I love the way they have kept some of the iron and steel from the old docks.
H. F.
So loved the boat trip up the river Orwell on Victor the 126 old local barge ty Wes and team . Great to see Pondall farm, Nacton Shores and Levington from the water looking in at our beautiful shoreline . Angel of the North well entertained us .
O. F.
Beautiful and calming
c. c.
Beautiful stroll along the waterfront
L. T.
Nice place to spend with friends and family
s. w.
Very nice place to spend a pleasant afternoon. Map is pretty useless as tourist information office isn't on it. It's at St Stephens Church
C. A. M.
A pedestrian-only walk along the Boat basin's edge; cafés, the Old Custom House, and several nice restaurants are sprinkled along the way. Two marinas and the pair of working lock gates may also be found. Interested in History? Look for the "window museum" exhibit tucked into the corner of the wine rack building...Or the interpretive signs over by Bridge Street to learn about the waterfront through history.
M. M.
With a bit of sunshine, this is a very pleasant place to go for a stroll. And there are plenty of great places to grab a bite to eat, or a drink.
D.
Cool place! Nice views!
G. Y.
A good choice of places to go from a coffee to a nice meal or even just a stroll.
I. B.
Small and large cafes serving good food
P. M.
Lovely place to go for a meal. All the restaurants are so good. One of the nicest areas of Ipswich.
B. W.
Very well organised with lots to see and do . Many of the activities were free and there was a free land train and ferry. .it was a good family atmosphere...not too loud .the fireworks were impressive. Great day out
P. B.
Parking a slight challenge but it was worth persevering. We had a great walk along the waterfront picking our favourite yachts.
P. W.
It's a very good place. That simple. Incredible location. Ipswich waterfront has to be the best bit of the town and the Marina is the best bit of the waterfron.
R. P.
Good walks and area with plenty of shopping and food options.
w. s.
Beautiful Marina with plenty of stuff to do
R. K.
Great place in the summer. Sun shining on the boats and the river with a nice glass of cider 🍺
F. J.
This is a superb location to study and feel safe
f. g.
Who can rember when the waterfront wasn't this beautiful. No restaurant and bars to sit and chat with friends. If you can remember. Let's enjoy the enjoy and take our litter home .make this year about keeping Ipswich clean . Be proud of where you live.
W. L.
I was visiting my daughter who lives near the waterfront, the various moored boats reminded me of when I visited Rotterdam, Morocco and Greneda.
The scenery is lovely and the atmosphere was peaceful.
My daughter assured me that there are good choices of places to eat out for non vegetarians, vegetarians and vegans.
I would recommend this place to visit and to also have a meal and drinks with family and friends.
C. W.
Great place for a Sunday afternoon stroll.
Lots of boats to look at, plenty of restaurants with waterside views (some with live music). You can even combine the two & have a cruise with a meal (anything from à la carte dinner to afternoon tea).
T. M.
Lovely views on to the water from any of the waterfront eating and drinking establishments..a few temporary tragic issues on the one way system .
G. N.
A beautiful place to walk, spending time with friends and family at the numerous bars/restaurant's.
P.
Had a good time walking around. Good view to click lot of pictures
M. M.
A very nice walk with warm weather
N. A.
The docks as I remember it now a beautiful place.
Today there was live good quality music at two venues and a wide choice of restaurants and food dishes available.
It's as pretty as most harbours abroad and it's on our doorstep.
P. P.
Great atmosphere. Coffee shops. Restaurants and fantastic views
D. W.
Wonderful scenery. Sun was shining and glistening on the water and reflecting off the boats. We're so lucky to have this amazing place to visit.
C. E.
The waterfront is an interesting mix of boats and university buildings cafes and pubs. On a cold bleak day it can be a bit deserted except for the uni students. Parking is right on the waterfront.
The reason for our trip there today was to visit Noah's Ark. A fascinating floating museum of Biblical fame. Well worth a visit; quite expensive to enter though.
C. C.
Very exciting place to go and even more so at night. Plenty of places to eat and drink, I had a exciting time with my friend. The shopping is a must with awesome buildings
L. S.
Beautiful place with lots of pubs and little cafés. Love visiting on a nice sunny day...
S. P.
What a beautiful place, I am getting a bit older now, but the place is stunning. Loads of boats and fascinating people that make this place the fun that it is .
A. S.
Lots of activities and great for walks.
J. N. M.
Beautiful place. Plenty of restaurants around, walk and enjoy the views. Love it.
s. a.
Beautiful place but might need a little clean up🙂🙂
S. G.
Fabulous spot in the center of town, always a festival, event going on. A great suntrap - marinas, boats, restaurants & wine. Summer sun and beer gardens add to this delightful hidden diamond.
Suffolk countys highlight point.
E. J.
Very quiet place. Not so nice when it's overcast, but am sure it's lovely when it's sunny!
R. J. T.
Probably the prettiest part of the city. A beautiful curving port with a range of boats to admire as you walk past. Cafes, bars and restaurants line the waterfront, making it a great place to find a meal. Hope Church and Holy Trinity church are around the corner, as well as a few places to stay such as Travelodge. There is easy access to the waterfront by both foot and car or bicycle.
J. M.
A really nice view for boats lovers
R. C.
Beautifully regenerated. A very nice to walk around with lots of cafes and restaurants
L. W.
Chilled out marina with plenty of excellent restaurants/bars/cafes
P. B.
Waterfront area is a very relaxing place as the walk along with quay and river just helps relax. the walking path is good although if one wishes to have the clear view of river then one needs to walk a very far distance as there is a large amount of boats which are parked. one can sit and just take in the cool breeze which flows through and we have plenty of options to eat as well including a Restaurant on the boat, bars, Pizzeria, and many more.
G. M. -. W.
Great but punctuality not so great. Leave 4 hours for the 3 hour trip if you have other places to be. Else just enjoy. The experience was amazing. Lock transition was great for the kids
L. P.
Lovely clean place to visit. Plenty of places to get a drink & something to eat & a big choice of different menues from snacks too afternoon tea or champagne dinners I seen them all Loved my visit here. All the shops are nearby too.
e.
Clean, tidy and pleasure to visit
M. J.
Lovely area in the summer. Lively Issacs, great Noodle Bar next to Salt House Hotel. Good selection of bistros and chain eateries. Further along you have Athena bar which again is lovely in summer to sit on a couch outside with a cocktail.
S.
Great for eating and looking at the boats you wish you owned
J. H.
Nice enough for a walk, neatly laid out but pedestrians have to share a narrow road with cars. Good selection of eateries so worth a visit for lunch with a view.
S. H.
Wish they would have more benches to sit on
L. P.
Visited in January with my husband. This hotel was totally refurbished a couple of years ago to a very high standard. We were greeted by friendly reception staff who sent us to the bar for a glass of bubbly whilst they checked us in - you relax as soon as you set foot in the place. We had booked a garden room which are in blocks of eight room. Ours was ground floor which in January was fine but in the height of summer I think the upper floor would be better so you can leave the windows and patio door open at night. Our room overlooked the shopping centre which I initially thought might be noisy but it was fine. Big room and huge walk in shower which was all immaculate. The hotel has numerous pools and in winter they are heated so we could swim which was such a bonus. The location is excellent there is a gate at the front of the hotel giving access to the promenade. We booked half board and sat outside for both breakfast and evening meal because they have so much outside seating there was always a table available. Vast buffet choice only critism of the food would be that they don't label enough dishes so you have no idea what things are and a majority of the food was luke warm.

Lovely walk along the front. Plenty of activity going on with the boats. Bars are busy but social distancing is happening. Lots of places are open now.
M.
I have cycled to work along the waterfront 5 days a week for the last 10 years and enjoyed so many great organised events around this area. The waterfront has evolved/still evolving from a working docks into an amazing place of culture, study, drink, eat and relax.
F. C.
The best place to sit outside drinking coffee & snacking during day or sipping stronger stuff in the evening.... quite a few places to choose from
T. D.
Lovely place
V. M.
There are many selections of shops and cafe s with outdoor seating. Also Check "aurora" at the very end. Great destination especially for a sunny day.
It could have evn more though and more outdoor seating, thus not 5 star :)
L.
Stunning view of the Marina and a great place to go in the evenings for wither a walk or a good pint, has lots of bars, cafes and restaurants. Highly recommend it if you are not from Ipswich and wish to visit somewhere nice.
A. H.
A good Place for a stroll and food and drink on thee way.
J. P.
Nice paved area where my ship can tie up. A few nice coffee shops, and a tesco express within easy walking distance. Would score 5 stars, but the swans aren't aggressive enough (nothing more amusing than watching people get chased by lairy swans) and there's far too many plastic speedbumps tied up in the marina. It's worse in summer, when all the red-trouser Henry's go out on the Orwell, and start yelling "sail before steam" down the VHF. Steel before plastic, matey. You won't even foul our props.
f. a. c. P. B.
the marina with it's cafe and bars, is a wonderful place to sit and watch the day flow by. One can sit and admire all they boats bobbing on the water whilst having a cooling drink it's a place l really like.
W. L.
Nice area for a stroll with some bars and coffee shops for a quick drink and rest
A. W.
Family get together on a largish pleasure boat ,took us down the Orwell with a pretty good lunch .
comfy nice crew ,great views of the estuary.
most enjoyable,not bad value either.
B. S.
A great waterfront and a great addition to Ipswich, parts of which look very run down, a city of two parts. Lots of new development underway on the harbour side . More vacant spaces to fill. Good bars and restaurants. Will be better when it's all finished.
M. K.
It's sunny, the cafés are open and it's near a beautiful waterfront. What more do you want an a warm sunny spring day?
P. R.
Its been done up very nicely and makes a pleasant walk from Ipswich Town Centre. My only negative comment would be that there are no public toilets in the area. There is currently a replica of Noah's ark moored in the docks (mid November 2019) which is due to be there for 3 months... UPDATE:. Should you be interested, the ark will remain in Ipswich until March 2021...
T. P.
Relaxing good food stunning
R. B.
A variety of food outlets and places to just sit and watch the world go by. Generally a quiet area while we were there, but I can imagine it being quite lively at weekends and during events held on the waterfront.
i. c.
Lovely revamped waterfront overlooking the marina in the centre of Ipswich. Lots of places to eat and drink, as well as a hotel, Dance East, the University all looking out on to the boats and yachts moored on the water. Great for a stroll or just pulling up at one of the outside tables ordering a beer and watch the world roll by.
C. C.
Sunny afternoon visit. Water was blue and it looks pretty decent down there now. Be prepared to spend some money in the restaurants as nowhere cheap to eat. Theres a quaint student type place offering cakes and coffee etc.. with old furniture and some musical instruments you can play as somewhere different to go.
U. G.
Nice and iconic, the pubs and restaurants along the waterfront feature excellent view
C. D.
Marina with good viewing point for all the yachts and small boats and river cruise boats. Loads of cafes, bar and restaurants most of which have outside seating. Some limited free parking in marina but plenty of paying, adjacent cars parks. Walking distance to town centre
D. M.
Not really much to see. OK for a few places to eat. Recommend The Mariners Restaurant excellent food and service.
J. P.
Beautiful place, many places to have food and drinks.
L. J. W.
I went here to look at a job, was nice... very pretty
S. S.
Lovely walk along the waterfront, a mixture of historic buildings, such as the Old Customs House and Isaac's, and contemporary ones, such as the University of Suffolk campus. Plenty of bars, coffee shops and restaurants to choose from..... and lots of boats!
S. P.
Absolutely stunning and refreshing
L. L.
Just a lovely & relaxed area to visit & take a walk along the waterfront
m. h.
Liked the way it came to life early evening, nice to just stroll round and look at boats and apartments.
M. B.
Great places to eat, lovely view of the water and all the fantastic boats!
Z. G.
Beautiful area to walk the dog. Kids love seeing all the boats.
One day I will own one :)
I. S.
A lot of places to eat and drink
N. B.
Gorgeous views and a vibrant cafe culture, not to mention the Jerwood DanceHouse which presents international and national dance companies to the people of Suffolk. Still a few buildings which need to be demolished/rebuilt along the Waterfront to fit in with the new buzzing vibe, hence the 4 star rating.
S. C.
I had an explore around the marina while waiting for the Lady Orwell boat trip.
Lots of space, good parking. A lovely day
D.
Far less bumpy than Trinity House Pier.
K. H.
The jewel in the crown of historic Ipswich. With a selection of great bars, restaurant and coffee shops. A wonderful place to spend a few hours on a summers day with some fabulous views of what was the largest wet dock in Europe during its day.
M. “. L.
Great restaurants, near to town, cheap parking near the campus.
C. W.
We stopped on our drive back from camping in Suffolk and had a coffee on the waterfront. Pretty views of the harbour but as it was a Sunday midday it was quiet and not much going on.
H. L.
Lovely cruise down the river Orwell on the Orwell Lady. Bit of a breeze but a beautiful sunny day. Good views of the waterfront and the Orwell bridge.
s. G.
Best service center for two wheelers
N. B.
Beautiful down waterfront went to pizza express looked over water quite busy some cars, going along there were quite annoying but very nice otherwise.
L. A.
Lovely place with some nice views and places to sit and enjoy them
V. R.
Go for a walk in the morning or in the evening. It always gives a very good feel and makes you feel refreshed. Lately- there is a lot waste seen in the water which is not a good sign though!
C. L.
Beautiful place. Sat outside a coffee shop in the sun
Felt like I was on holiday !
A. S.
This is a vibrant and beautiful marine area of Ipswich located inn the water front are numerous pubs restaurants and bars.
Also the university of Suffolk campus is also here.
With lovely views of the marina area and boats it is well worth a walk around.
L. S.
Because it has a wonderful view and you can go on the boats, and take your self for a ride on the water, and you might be able to see some jellyfish too , and you can also have some yummy food too.
Y. D.
Very vibrant place
М. К.
This is good town,it's a pity that I was there not for long,it would be possible to see a local landmarks.I've been in UK for a first time.
s. a. j.
Lovely place plenty of food places to eat, stunning ice creams had a cracking time.
B. H.
Nice waterfront/cafe vibe sit and look at boats. Or maybe take a meal - mariners boat-restaurant is good.
d.
Really nice place for a walk. Several bars, restaurants and coffe shops.
M. S.
Thank you for asking me about Ipswich waterfront. It was cold and rainy at the time but we had quite a nice veggie lunch at a place with funny furniture although we asked for bagels and got toast. We wanted to walk across the lock but it was all blocked off.
J. C.
Wonderful place with a good choice of places to eat.
j. P. (.
Great place for a walk. Great place to eat and drink out when we're back to normal times. This place was one of the reasons we moved to Ipswich.
R. R.
Great area to just sit, drink and watch 5he world go past.
L. M.
Spent two nights here. Fantastic, staff went above and beyond. Food was excellent too, especially freshly cooked breakfast this morning. Great location, highly recommended. Will be back .
b.
Some great resturants, wine bars and cafes super setting on the water front.
K. T.
Pleasantly suprised as first visit. Stayed in Travelodge just a stone throw from Marina, plenty of great places to eat and drink! Lovely weather helped, would definitely recommend visiting
M. J.
The Ipswich Waterfront is undergoing renovation and has lots of potential. Shops and restaurants are starting to gain traction and looking at the many boats is fun but there is little for children to do, the water looks a bit scuzzy and there is a lot of construction.
J. K. O.
A very beautiful undiscovered 'billionaires' view waterfront. You will never find many beautiful yatches in one place. That for me sums up how beautiful Suffolk is. Beautiful country side and excellent waterfront. Visit Suffolk.
I. G.
The port has loads of fast foods near like KFC, McDonald's and Subway. Not only that but there is a place where you can leave your kids to play that is not far at all from the Waterfront.
M. S.
Very gorgeous spot lots of cafes and bars pub restaurants also just a beautiful place to watch the world go by,,,,,,,
B. S.
Ipswich Waterfront makes for a lovely walk, clean and well kept, with plenty of eateries or coffee shops, letting your imagination run wild with thoughts of owning any of the hundreds of boats bobbing in the marina.
G. W.
Always a lovely place for a walk. Relax with a coffee or something a bit stronger🍷🍹🍺. Sunday live music at the Aurora and Issac's. I love it!
T. Q.
We were here for the maritime festival, was a brilliant day, lots to do, would recommend it to anyone for next year
The guy playing Captain Jack was a legend, really good with my nervous 6 year old
T. G.
Rained, but my time there was very enjoyable & I was able to find what I needed in a calm & chill location.
F. G.
This place just comes alive in the summer.
We just need to do our part and keep the covid numbers down. so we all can get on with our lives .lets make Ipswich the prime example.
D. O.
Nice to go for an evening walk, as I was staying in the area
H. t. H. u.
Great place for everyday walk.Would be nice to see some areas for street workouts on the promenade.
I. R.
Very pleasant to walk around. Plenty of places for a drink or meal.
L. S.
This is a very vibrant place, lots of restaurants, bars and attractions for all ages. The nightlife is very popular, but the daytime culture is good too.
F. F.
Pleasant and calm place to walk along and to stop for a drink or some food. artisanal/independent shops and art galleries would make it a 5 star place
H. B.
It was peaceful just to sit by the waterside and look at the boats then had a drink at the restaurant
S. N.
Very nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Also excellent beer.
C. e.
nice autumn sunset
P. “. B.
Lovely atmosphere for the Waterfront festival. This area is becoming smarter each year. Still some building and renovations going on but loads completed since last year
R. H.
Nice place to walk .and look at the bout maybe you could fish in the port . places to visit.and eat.
M. J. H.
I stopped at Isaacs for a drink and some chips when on my return from a 50 mile bike ride. My friend I was cycling with suggested stopping here, and I'm glad we did as it was a very nice drop of beer!
Chips nicely cooked too. Friendly staff & friendly customer's on day I stopped. Nice view of Ipswich Marina made it all worth it for me...
HELPFUL? LEAVE A RESPONSE OR 'LIKE' THANK YOU
S. H.
Clean and tidy. Plenty of cafes/restaurants/ bars to use. Lots of boats moored up.
D. W.
Park your car at the park n ride, then bus it into the centre and see beautiful Ipswich, lovely town.
I. B.
It's just ok, has the same charm as any other waterfront with boats. The restaurants don't have quite as much seafood as you'd expect and the area is very clean.
K. G.
My home town, the dock land has been a haunt of mine since I was about 12/13yrs old. I with a friend would talk to the skippers of the Thames barges that ‘lived’ there and they would allow us to use their rowboats to ‘skull’ around the dock basin. I would watch the tug (little more than a row boat with a lister type engine) with a father and son pushing and pulling the lighter barges around for unloading at the roller mill. Little did I know that many years later I would work with both father, and son on the ‘real’ tugs that plied the river Orwell bring up the large ships for grain etc and for the roro ferry. The docks have gone from the dirty working area they once were to a beautiful marina and a place to get a variety of good foods and a very good selection of good beers. I return to the Ipswich area occasionally (a bit expensive from California) when I can and I enjoy, maybe a little too much, to enjoy a beer (or three)visiting the docks where I spent some 11years working. I have family that live literally yards from the quay and in the evenings a walk from the house along the quayside to a place that has become one of my favourite watering holes, named after one of the old coal merchants, and a person I bought my first house from off Foxhall Rd. a ‘few’ years ago now. Every time I come home I wonder at the changes to the town and some of the so called improvements, but the improvements made to the dock basin make me want to return and live in an area that I enjoyed working in and still miss.
M. S.
The Waterfront is a pleasant place for an easy stroll and there is a wide selection of cafés (I like the Cycle Café), bars and restaurants as well as a gym, dance studio and estate agent. River cruises use the Waterfront for mooring and embarkation. If you walk too far to either end it feels considerably less welcoming. There is a small amount of sculpture/art and the marina to look at but beyond spend money there's not a lot to actually do, although there is a once-popular Pokemon gym.
The Waterfront is a popular cut-through for cyclists avoiding the one-way system - beware if walking at busy times.
V. L. S.
Lovely place, the Salt House Quay Hotel very good really enjoyed our stay.
M. J.
Large selection of restaurants and cafés for all budgets. A nice area to walk around. Quite a few events are held during the summer, from local markets to the beer festival.
Y. A.
Beautiful bright place
C. A.
Great place for a walk. Lots of choice for coffee etc.
P. O.
Lucky enough to be here for Ipswich Maritine
M. K.
A super place to moor your boat except the lock is a pain to exit and enter. It's all about location location and l would recommend.
d. n.
Coming back to Ipswich after being away in Felixstowe for 20 years I was amazed at the improvement of the water front we have finally moved in to the modern world it is fantastic I love sitting down there people watching and just chilling
I. W.
First time here will be great in the summer.
D. J.
Was nice to walk the waterfront and check out the views. Took some time and enjoyed some arcade games and food with the kids. Good time.
C. B.
Fab place especially on a sunny day, could almost be abroad, lots if places to sit, eat and drink, possibly pre book a table, the waterfront restaurant just past pizza place was delicious, everything tasted as good as it looks, great views, definitely coming back
O. C.
Yes it's a lovely place to visit and it's got a good view over Ipswich.
O. S.
Best area in Ipswich for eatery's and drinks. Used to be mediocre but the council have massively improved it. Modern and keeping with Suffolk charm.
N. J.
Nice view, good for strolling.
A. S.
Usually it's quiet and good for a walk. But I went here for the maritime festival and it was very enjoyable. Good for the whole family.

Marina full of boats of all sorts - fascinating. Happy mix of old buildings and new and plenty of places to eat and drink.
F. R.
Nice waterfront. Shame the Ark museum wasn't open. Nice vibe and good range of restaurants.
J. A.
Love the feeling of this place, a good spot to stop and eat or just people watching.
M. F.
The Ipswich Waterfront is a lovely place to go on a sunny day. There are various cafés where you can get a selection of hot and cold drinks, various things to eat as well. There is also a large pub. Parking is limited to 3hrs gree but there is a large carpark right nearby pay and display. Lovely place to walk around and look at the lovely boats. If you walk over the opposite side then you will see the really expensive boats.
R. K.
Very good and nice, mostly modern however has some bad parts such as construction and some run down buildings. Suffolk University is also here, the marina as well. Home of Ipswich Salthouse Hotel along eith some restaurants, pubs, gyms and dsmcestudio as well.
S. T.
Waterfront very nice but cafes closing early not good...
J. R.
Very nice part of Ipswich for leisurely walks along the marina with plenty of fine eateries day and night with a lively young crowd Friday and Saturdays nights Isaacs is quite a trendy bar to go to with excellent food and hosting special events live entertainment bbqs etc also in August the marina hosts a harbour day with crafts markets fun fair and foods from around the world not forgetting the hog roast absolutely delicious also live reinactments of war time fantastic day out for the family ending in a spectacular fire works display across the water and all for free I highly recomend this event
M. w.
Nice relaxing place to watch the world go by.
Had a nice meal at the coffee cat
S. D.
Looks like people don't love the place but is a lovely place. Is something different also with a poetic and romantic view, water/life.

P. A. -. P. T. M.
Unbeatable sight of yachts, water-glittering beauty and modern apartment houses. The University building is unique and remarkably stylish...
P. D.
Nice place to hang out. A few restaurants and coffee shops. Some local history.
M. W.
Beautiful place for a walk, fills you up with energy ⚡
E. T.
Excellent, and now work is progressing on some of the remaining structures it all looks even better for the future.
R. G.
Overlooking the marina, with hotels, bars, cafés and the odd shop. Would have gotten 5 stars, but was awoken by fighting at 3am one Saturday night. Not uncommon either.
R. L.
Decent walk, wouldn't go there at night out of fear of being mugged though
M. C.
Lovely spot BUT parking in Ipswich is a nightmare. University leave car park open at night but then threaten £100 fine for no permit. Council & university should work together to help drivers and council/uni coffers. Not enough sensibly priced restaurants on Waterfront and so much private but empty parking at night. Looked at leaving car near an unfinished building locals call the 'Wine Rack' ..NO WAY ..Expected Stately, Hutch & Buggy Bear to be brawling next to car.
R. W.
When the sun shines, it's like being on holiday.
C. G.
Nice food.lovely scenery.just one question to the chef was your burger original beef voz it looked strange and tasted weird.
D. H.
Lots of boats to look at and a huge range of assorted eateries and pubs very close. Hotels too so it's a good base for exploring Ipswich.
A. J.
Already shared that it is a place well worth visiting. During summer months there is a barge trip with through the river with cream tea made from the galley.
J. S.
Nice clean place and lovely boats and shops.
V. D. A. P.
A nice place to go for a walk, take some pictures and have some fun. Several local pubs and tea rooms. I recommend that.
H. P.
Its all right for ipswich and must say safer than most od the rest of the town and has ok scenery but would benefit with more greenery such as planters about as it is very dull and grey but yhh issa ayt.
E. K.
A great place to waste an afternoon especially if you're peckish and in need of drink, there's several watering holes and eateries which both carnivores and vegans will enjoy.
R. A.
