Reviews of National Trust - Formby
L. M.
First visit and despite the rather overcast day we had a brilliant time .
Large easy to find car park right up to the beach .
Beautifully clean long sandy beach backed by sand dunes and beyond the wonderful squirrel forest.
We had picnics in a sheltered spot on the sand dunes as it was very very windy
It was safe and fun to paddle in the sea and some of us collected shells. I even found a crab but no seaweed!
The sand was perfect for drawing in too.
I recommend a visit .
R. G.
Such a lovely beach. With its rolling sand dunes that seem to stretch the length of the entire coast, to the endless see with sights to see. You can see Blackpool on the right in the distance and an endless line of wind turbines stretching out all the way along the Welsh coast. The beach has a rich history going back to WW2 where they buried all the rubble from the bombed homes in the dunes. There are also many forests paths to enjoy. They also have a large parking area.
S. R.
if you really want to enjoy the dunes and the barge, then go to this place. a great beach for both the whole family and a simple stroll along the seafront. In windy weather it is possible to take a walk in the woods and enjoy the air, which is saturated with the smell of pine. your four-legged friends will love this place too
S. A.
Always a lovely place to spend some time walking, at any time of year. Stunning beach, pretty woodland, delightful dunes. We'd give it 5 stars; but not until we actually spot the mythical Red Squirrel. Also the National Trust really need to update either their online maps/walking routes.
K. W.
Wonderful beach, amazing dunes, shady woodland walks, acres of space for kids to run, explore, paddle and build sandcastles. Lots of rare wild creatures to keep your eye out for.
The only downside is the carpark is a bit expensive at £7.50, but it is for the whole day and as it's National Trust the money is helping to protect this beautiful place.
F. B.
Lovely Beach, well kept and family friendly. If you arrive in a good day and a good time you could have a good stretch of the beach to yourself. The dunes and squirrel trails are an additional plus for wanting to come again and again
W. J.
(My), Words could not, even can not describe the beauty of this place. From a maritime pine forest to the sand dunes, to the foreshore the whole experience encapsulated everything that might be necessary for a mindfulness exercise. If you have not been here and seen and experienced this extraordinary place your life is not as full as it might be. Incredible....
C. A.
Very nice beach ⛱️. Shame they don't put tables and benches, could be very great. We couldn't get through to the gate as the parking was already full, we walked to get in from other pathway. Need to go very early to get in. We stayed till the sunset, it was beautiful, breath taking.
R.
I always love coming here, come rain or shine. Such a good place to chill. The car parking price is £7.50 so make sure you have the correct change. The machine doesn't accept notes or cards. You can pay via an app but the signal isnt great.
C. M.
A wonderful place. A diverse and varied habitat. A walk along the beach, exploring the woodland or the amazing and very beautiful sand dunes is brilliant whatever the season.
J. N.
Beautiful! Catch this place in a clear and warm day and you might as well be watching a sunset in Ibiza. Stunning walks, really clean beach. Just a joy to live near.
L. J.
Marvellous place on the coast at Formby between Liverpool and Southport. No cost to visit except for the car park fee for non National Trust members. The beach is a huge expanse of sand reached through sand dunes. There are conifer woods with lots of paths to explore leading eventually to the beach. There is also a squirrel walk through a designated area where you may be lucky to see a red squirrel.
S. C.
Love this place and so do the kids. Just beautiful surroundings. Walking through the woods out onto the dunes and down onto the beach is our favourite thing to do. Can spend all day here if the weather is nice - just make sure you bring spare socks and something to wash off the sand or be prepared to take half the beach home!
a. g.
Came on a guided bird watching walk. Amazing to view the wildlife around the dunes. The beach itself is a wonderful space but looking at the different birds helped me appreciate it even more.
T. T. 1.
One of the most stunning beaches in the UK complimented by incredible sand dunes and woodland.
Lots of trails to walk through dense forest areas including the red squirrel trail. Depending on which way you walk you can be in woodland, open farmland or on sand dunes. This place literally has everything.
M. Z.
We visited on Saturday 1pm. The place was very busy and we couldn't even enter the car park as it was full. So as the rest of the people we tried to park on the road... If you lucky enough, you might find somewhere to park. Beware of the parking wardens and angry residents! Residents were standing in front of their houses trying to swat the visitors away giving them all the talk how the roads are blocked and congested.... Like the visitors could do anything about it. The parking was nowhere big enough for all the visitors pouring in on the hot day.
So make sure to arrive early to even get to the carpark, otherwise face the residents.
Now the beach... Beautiful long strip of sandy beach. But beware! On the busy day the sand got all moved about and the thousands of sand hoppers were disturbed, swimming for their life and clinging on legs, toes making your dip in the sea very uncomfortable and bloody. Yes, bloody! My son came out bleeding from his legs from the multiple cuts all over his legs. I got multiple sea creatures clinging onto my legs too, but I felt sharp pinches only as they didn't penetrate my skin. However, it was not pleasant either way.
So hence the 3 stars, otherwise it is a nice place to visit.
A. C.
Lovely place to visit and will definitely return. I think £7.50 is a little expensive but most visitors are probably NT members. Car park does get very busy so make sure you arrive early. We visited early March on a very cold but sunny day and were surprised many people were there.
We walked about 8 miles along the beach and through the wooded area. Will definitely return to explore the area more.
There is currently a lot of rubble on the beach which includes house bricks and paving stones but I'm aware that NT are working to clear this up. Suitable footwear would be recommended.
Lots of people taking their dogs for a walk but they didn't bother us at all.
L. W.
Beautiful beach and forest surrounding, bonus that it's dog friendly all year round. Toilets on site were clean. Only place to purchase food was a ice cream van so definitely take a picnic and plenty to drink.
D. L.
I absolutely adore this place as does my 2 dogs so clean and well kept and great for walk even if the weather isn't the best. Some of the pictures I've managed to take here make it so worth it.
R. W.
Lovely woods, handy for several train stations. Very busy with the locals who know a good thing. Get 20 yards off the path for a little peace and quiet.
S. H.
Liverpool's hidden beach!
We love this place, stunning scenery from the woods, sand dunes to the beach.
Sea isn't really tidal so barely moves, meaning your not up and down chasing the sea.
F. P.
Fantastic sandy beach with a more or less permanent ice cream seller on site. The sand does have some bricks in it from an old collapsed building but great for making a sea fort 😆
N.
I live in Manchester. So I have to travel about 1 hour by car to get to formby. On this visit. We went to the 2nd national trust car park, where we have never been to. The usual car park we go to is smaller, but you are closer to the sand dunes. Which my misses and kids love. On this visit we bought along the new addition to our family. Our cavapoo puppy Rudy. This was the whole purpose of the visit this time. This time of year. I don't believe it to be very busy, compared to the summer months. But it is most definitely a great place to visit.
C. M.
Just love Formby beach. Easy to park, the dunes are great for picnics, the woods near by are easy to walk around, my dogs love it there. Happily recommend this place.
M. H.
This has got to be one of my favourite places to walk and explore. Not only is there a forest of pine trees there are lots of wild life for an avid photographer with Red squirrels, rabbits, birds and other wild life, but there are Sand dunes to clamber over. Also a lovely beach, safe for swimming. This is our favourite picnic place. A safe place to let you child be free and safe. Great for dogs too.
C.
From Formby and extending beyond the Red Squirrel Nature reserve, the pine forests and extensive sand dunes of the beach make this a fantastic day out. Perfect for families, school parties or simply walking the dog.
G. S.
Nice place for the most part, though it's sad that beaches are full of bricks and trash where kids play.. besides that it's lovely place for walks
A. M.
One of my now favourite beaches.. Lovely long clean beach, enchanting sand dunes great parking and dog friendly
T. M.
Absolutely breathtaking.. we have a toddler so arrived at 8am as its exceptionally hot today.., long stay car park near the dunes was pretty empty.. the tide was far out, lots of jelly fish stranded.. had to keep moving back as tide came in fast. Stayed on the beach till around 10ish then went for a walk on the dunes and in the pine woods, which was nice. Left around 11.30 and the queue in was ridiculous for the car park.. also getting too hot at that point.. with a toddler in tow DEFFO worth setting off early and being one of the first on the beach 😉👍
K. H.
Its actually so cute here. The beach is covered in rubbish unfortunately when you get right onto the front but the rest is beautiful. Going back to see more in a couple of weeks
D. W.
£7.50 to park the car, though there was plenty of space and it's a great location to walk round the red squirrel reserve or to the sand dunes. No red squirrels in the reserve when we visited at the weekend though! Lovely walk still though.
K. P. (.
Just perfect. Feeling like any worries is being taken away by the peacefulness around you. Absolutely stunningly perfect
D. M.
I took my first trip to Formby Woods yesterday (23rd August).
Travelling from Kirkdale it only took just over half an hour to get there by train. Getting off at Freshfield station I headed straight along Victoria Road to the woods and beach.
As I wasn’t travelling by car there were no parking fees to pay 👌🏻. As I’d brought my own food along for the trip I’m not certain where you can buy food here. There is a little kiosk where you acquire a map for your walk, but whether they had food or drink to buy, I’m not sure 🤷🏻♂️. There was an ice-cream van there, always nice for something cold on a warm day 👌🏻.
I found the walk to be pretty straight forward in following the specific routes. I’m a rebel though, so I went in various directions (think that’s called being LOST 🤔😆).
There is seating dotted around the woods or if you want to you can just sit on the floor.
From an adults perspective, I would say there is enough there just to enjoy the ambience and the quietness. For a child, they may enjoy the initial excitement of being in the woods, but I didn’t see much else to keep them entertained.
Maybe a nature trail with things to spot on the map to keep them focused would be good 🤷🏻♂️.
It is also home to Red Squirrels, although during my visit they were proving very elusive 🤦🏻♂️. I did however see signs that there has been an outbreak of Squirrel Pox and sadly 4 have died. So sad when I know they are low in numbers already. 😞
I then headed to the beach which was only a short walk from the woods. Just be prepared that in good weather, this place can get busy pretty quick.
Overall, I enjoyed a nice afternoon out and will definitely go again, maybe in the Autumn when the colours start to change.
A. F.
Reilly loved it, though maybe a bit windy the day we went but she still had a blast. Car parking fee is worth it as the beach is spotless.
M. H.
A great place to visit with family. A nice walk around the squirrel woods and some time on the beach. There is occasionally an ice cream van or a food truck. You can park near the woods (disabled parking is available here). Parking is free for NT Members (dont forget your membership card!!). None Members you looking at paying £7.50 for parking. You can park nearer the beach and its a bigger car park. When its busy and full the car park shuts and traffic is directed to park further down the coast towards the lifeboat. The sandy path over to the beach it good for toning the back of your legs. A great beach, but not all beach goers understand the term "leave no trace". This means take your rubbish home and dispose of it properly.
Z. E.
It's a bit of a steep price to pay for the whole day of £7.50
But it's really a hidden treasure.. My kids enjoyed it.. We were lucky to have had great weather and it wasn't busy at all.
A. C.
A great place to visit. There's a good size car park, which is free charge for National trust members. The beach is easily accessible from following one of the sandy paths from the car park. A really nice long sandy beach. There's a small woodland area at the other side of the car park, which is good for exploring.
L. H.
Had a lovely day out here recently.
We first walked through the Pinewoods and took photos of the lovely natural scenery. The pinewoods is well looked after.
We then went on to the beach, which was on a hot summers day. There was lots of people taking advantage of this beautiful place. The beach was clean with very little litter around.
This place makes a great place for a day out for families. Also a great place if you like being around nature.
J. G.
Great place to walk your dog!
Car park £7. 50, unless you are a national Trust member, then its free.
N. M.
Great long sandy beach. Lots of wind turbines and cargo ships going into Liverpool. Lots of sand dunes. No dog restrictions. Plenty of walks through woods and bushes. Great for bird watching. Free for national trust members or 7.50 for non members. Gets busy on sunny weekends.
N. F.
Lovely beach and dunes. Operated and managed by the national trust, members park free otherwise £7,50 for the day.
N. S.
Forest opens up to this beach and the walk is really great with beautiful view.
C. M.
Lovely place to take long walks in groups or alone. It gives a very safe and secure atmosphere. Other walkers exchange greetings and one feels its a place worth visiting often. The air is very fresh since its so close to the beach. There are a few seating areas in case one wants to rest their feet. I loved it and can recommend this place
F. M.
I like the variety surfaces and areas to walk. From Pine woods to sand dunes to the wet sand beach. Walking over the sand dunes takes a lot of effort. Be ready for that but it is beautiful.
A. J.
National Trust seaside reserve including a long sandy beach, sand dunes and red squirrels within pine woodland, popular for coastal walks & beach time. Car park free for NT members, otherwise £7.50 for cars. Pay & Display machine takes coins but you can also pay by phone/web if you can get a mobile phone signal at this remote location.
N. F.
Arrived at 6am with the intention of watching the sunrise. Only two other cars in the carpark so we pretty much had the whole beach to ourselves initially. Lovely clean beach and great to spend the day. Stood at the top of the dunes to get a phone signal to pay for a full days parking online which cost £7.50.
This beach would definitely benefit from some kind of wooden board / walkway system from the carpark to the beach which would encourage more families with children in prams to visit and also allow families with disabled children or relatives to bring to Formby to enjoy the area.
One small point more; the bricks and other fallen masonry needs to be removed as, although it's sign posted as dangerous, it's an eyesore and does tend to let the beach down slightly.
I'd definitely visit again.
D. O.
Fantastic huge beach, sand dunes and woodland - proper nature in all its natural glory. Will definately go again. Shame the toilets closed so early (4pm) but otherwise a great place to spend the whole day if you like your beach quiet and unspoilt. Almost doorstep train access with a walk to the beach. Superb fish and chips just by the station, ice cream van in the car park. Well worth the £7.50 parking fee (for all day - cheaper for National Trust members). Getting up and over the dunes to the sea is hard steep walking in very soft sand, but well worth the effort.
R. U.
WONDERFUL SOLSTICE SUNSET VIEW BY NATIONAL TRUST PARK
*there are another parking machine beyond the entrance. Take coins with you instead of trusting on your phone to pay for your parking time due to very week mobile internet connection (Vodafone struggles).
S. P.
Formby is an absolutely wonderful beach if you like somewhere calm flat and hopefully peaceful. Whilst there are unfortunately a lot of people who abuse this peace in the beach, it's large enough for you to find a quiet spot. However, the actual forest itself is a delight. Not only is it an interesting environment but the opportunity to see red squirrels is enchanting, especially when you do spot one. I highly recommend a visit, especially if you can support The National Trust by doing so.
C. G.
Really nice beach, very quiet and the water wasn’t too deep - so perfect for little ones! The car park was only £7 for the day which we didn’t mind.
J. P.
By far the best beach I've been on!! Lots of sand dunes, not too busy (and we went on a Saturday). Becareful of the jellyfish though!!
P. P.
Had a great walk around Formby with the dogs. Such a lovely place with lots to do. Can get busy with school parties, but that's only to be expected. Paths are well defined and signed. Lots of information boards to read and adventures for little ones! Some great photos to be had here. Plenty of picnic areas and quite a few car parking spaces if you're here early enough. Please remember to not park like a tool and only use official parking! It's not that expensive and free to National Trust members.
G. M.
Sunny and hot and busy. But we found a nice spot on the beach to sit and build sandcastles. Beach very clean with no visible litter and what we saw of the dunes was the same. Our guests were impressed and want to go again as soon as possible!
R. W.
Had a great day here with my four legged friend. Beach was beautiful so you should probably arrive early if you want a parking space
T. O. G.
You are virtually guaranteed to see Red Squirrels here. I’ve never failed to see one. If you are walking through the dunes to the beach just be aware due to conditions underfoot it can be a bit of a slog!
P. H.
Had a lovely walk through the woods, finishing off on the beach.
Adequate parking.
Greeted by really helpful friendly staff.
L. B.
Fabulous National Trust area. Beach incredibly clean, lifeguards on duty and dog friendly.
I. T.
Great beach that is well kept. Small amount of parking keeps it good!
I. B.
Absolutely brilliant. Well organised no parking issues. Full sand beach.
s. s.
Nice beach to visit with family and it's dog friendly too. Big sand dunes and long Beach area, plenty space for every. Quite a walk from parking so pack light. Really busy during summer but a lot parking spaces managed by National Trust (free for member). Have a coffee truck sells cakes too, portable toilet at parking area both closed at 4pm. Have a nice forest area before beach for a walk with your four legs family. Nice shallow water for swim (some small bugs bite you sometimes, only feels like small pinch) Love this place.
S. B.
Nice car parking space when arriving around 14:00. Make sure you take coins for parking as the signal for O2 services was not good at all. £7.50 for all day parking, not a long walk from parking. As it being national trust, you cannot take BBQ and some other rules also. Clean respected place. Nice sandy beach, water was a nice temperature at the time as well.
J. H.
Stunning beach, would definitely recommend if you want a quiet day in the sun chilling out. 🌊 ⛱️
S. A.
Car Park machine has a phone number to pay but everyone there (except all who come first time) knows there is no connection to call or use your phone!! Why don't you install a machine that accepts cards payment and cash..?
Apart from the above the beach is great clean and quiet - many thanks for people who keep it in this way. God bless!
S. J. D. O.
Such a great place to go for a stroll on the dunes. Get away from the city bussle.
S. H.
The NT staff really helpful, when our QR code wouldn't scan to park. The beach was clean, even with it being a busy day. The toilets were a little dirty, and only opened for very limited hours given the length of summer days. However, we were grateful that they are now provided.
M. T. T. R. C.
We been coming here for years, when my kids were little the red squirrels were in abundance, now you are very lucky to see one. However its an enchanting place, keep natural and tidy kids loved running in woods stopping for picnics and playing in sandhill and on prestine beach swimming in the river
H.
Very lovely and clean beach. Peace and quiet! Very raw and not many people around. Not much to do apart from enjoying the beach (disclaimer ;) ). You need to walk for a while from the train station to get here, you go through a forest like area (unfortunately we didn't find any toilets around). They say there are red squirrels around but didn't see any :( Overall, I'd recommend.
K. K.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Didn’t see a red squirrel but the walking was beautiful. The beach is very clean and well kept.
T. M.
Free parking for NT members. Beautiful clean beach, dog friendly. Small toilets in car park open until 4
D. H.
Disabled access is amazing. My wife is a beach babe and thanks to the boardwalk even with her disability we can still get down there even on the days she needs a chair. Brilliant to see the local community getting together on litter picks with us keeps this place beautiful 😍
W. S.
Very clean sandy beach with loads of sand dunes and you have to walk through a bit of woods to get there which adds extra beauty. Only drawback is that there are no shops etc
J. R.
A nice day out lovely dunes and nice sandy beach.
S. M.
Great mix of spacious beach, tall dunes and woodland walks. If its windy don't try and have a butty sat in the dunes..'I hope you like sand'! Allegedly there's red squirrels in the woods but we didn't see any.
V. W.
First visit and will not be the last, good mix of beach, sand dunes and woodland. Good paths to walk 🚶♂️around as well. It was well busy when we visited but the place is that vast you can easily find your own space 😉.
J. A.
A superb expanse of beach, together with a red squirrel habitat. £7.50 parking or free for National Trust members. Very popular- so get there early for parking. Be prepared for lots of visitors, but an empty beach the further you walk along it. Most people seem to barely crest the first dune before setting up their day tents and lining up their flip flops. On the day I visited last, some people didn’t even make it out of the car park and were just sunbathing on the path!
Great beach for walking and the area behind the dunes is great for wildlife and plants but a good few degrees warmer.
D. F.
What beautiful sand dunes but not great for pushchairs unless you've got great muscles for pulling or rather dragging them through the long walk to the beach. The sand is so soft and powdery and the beach was so clean I didn't find any rubbish to pick up. Lots of parking but it gets very busy by noon.
A. N.
Lovely beach with great views of Blackpool to the North and Wales to the south. Tide was in when we got there, quite a bit of rubble from the Old Barracks strewn around the high tide area. When the sea went out it revealed vast amounts of sandbanks and tidal pools. Overall beach is clean, well maintained and not completely flooded by tourist like its northern neighbours.
Z. “. M.
Nice beach, however can be busy and tide doesn't stay very long, overall, nice
J. M.
A nice beach, somewhere to go and relax with the family. Kept nice and clean.
M. R.
What a fabulous place to walk Luna, had a great day out. Only gripe was the car park charge. I don't mind a fee which goes towards the areas upkeep but do have an issue when it's exorbitant.
c. k.
Being our first time to visit Fomby, we had a wonderful time as a family. Looking forward to our next visit.
A. R.
Good access to the coast and great sandy beaches. Toilets good. Friendly site representative. Third party drinks wagon available for teas and small snacks. Quite busy and both car parks reasonably full. The site is slightly tired (so only 4 stars) and could do with some attention. Given the number of visitors the services could be expanded. Recommend as a destination for kids beach experience. This is very similar to the coast all the way down to the top of Crosby.
W. B.
Be aware that it is £7.50 to park here, if you are not a National Trust member. It is cash only, or you can try the phone app, but the phone service is very weak and has sparse coverage in this area. The beach, dunes and red squirrel sanctuary are spectacular!
N. G. M.
Fantastic place to take dogs. Clean toilets. Parking a rip off at £ 7.50.
p. f.
Absolutely loved it!
We had a wonderful time there.
Will definitely be visiting again.
D. B.
Excellent place for a lovely walk in woodland and on the beach. There are some sandhills to traverse to get to the beach so it can be a little hard going walking through the loose sand.
Car park was 7.50 in mid 2022, which isn't cheap, but thinking that it helps with the maintenance of the place by the National Trust made it seem perfectly acceptable.
S. G.
Lovely place but the £7.50 parking fee is extortionate. Who carries that amount of cash in coins these days ? No card reader on machine either ! Had to wander around the car park to pick up any data connection to do pay by phone. All very stressful as we had our anxious rescue dog with us for his first beach day. The facilities are basic - scruffy loos and a Mr Whippy van. Yes we had a lovely few hours on an almost deserted beach and our dog had an amazing time but not sure we would go back.
M. G. (.
Great walk with family, expected to be windy and cold but walk became hard as soon we realised winter clothes is overkill for this warm peaceful day
D. C.
Wonderful place to walk. You've got the woods, sand dunes and beach to look forward to. If you have a National Trust membership card then you can park all day for free. Amazing.
R. B.
The lifeboat road car park is best for families with prams, as the board walk gives access to the beach. Toilets and coffee cart there too. Lots of dogs on the beach, which isn't for everyone, especially when you get the odd bad dog owner.
J. H.
A nice place to visit, can stay whole day long.
A.
Excellent week day out on a hot summers day with the kids, a lot quieter than the weekends as access and parking was easier. Spent most of the day here in the sea, was quite a walk up from the beach bit definitely worth it, great fun as the sea wasnt cold. Go here when it's proper scorching. Plenty of beach to explore, along with the infamous dunes at great heights, try doing a rolypoly down one with your mates. Free parking here with a national trust membership otherwise its £8.00 for a ticket. There's walkways for prams just off the cost near the woodland area, lots of wildlife to see and explore at the right times of the year, I'll keep coming here, highly recommended for a cheap day out.

It's very rare I actually say "wow" but the sand dunes here are just gorgeous. Plenty of beach to sit and chill. Loads of sand dunes to adventure around and a massive forest behind them. What more do you need? Parking is £7.50 for the day but I didn't mind paying that at all for the views. You can pay by card aswell so bonus. No shops or anything but an ice-cream van did turn up so that was nice. Plenty to walk and plenty too see. Will be definitely coming back.
L. P.
Very windy area, be prepared for it. Dog friendly beach and good hiking areas as well. You pay for all day parking. Not possible to pay less if you don't stay all day. Current price £7.50
F. H.
It was a nice experience to be there, it was very windy and cold, from the car park it was a good walk on the sand, if you are not used to walk on the sand it would be a bit of struggle specially if you have a children with you. Pram and push chair are strongly not advised because you will not be able to push it.
D. L.
Plenty of parking & toilets
Parking £7.50 but it's all day. But be aware, need an app and wi-fi signal. Minimal signal in car park so be warned.
Long trek through the dunes to the beach. Be be warned.
1 star loss for the app only and no wi-fi signal.
A. S.
Good beach with lot of place to park .
L. M.
Great day out! Beautiful scenery! Brings you back to earth
R. M.
Great place for a walk , woodland walks with the chance of seeing a red squirrel. And great beach walks.
N. H.
Great beach, plenty of parking, either at the forest or at the beach.
N. H.
Beautiful hidden beach and sand dunes. As NT members we parked for free but it is £7.50 for non-members.
Lots of trails to follow if you're up for a walk...take sturdy shoes. There are friendly NT staff on hand in the car park to help with advice and tips and will supply a useful map.
S. N.
Sandy beaches. Toilets in car park and icecream van. Suggest you take a picnic and cold drinks. Buying a parking ticket was "hard work", if you don't have coins for the meter. It doesn't use card or notes, rather an "App", which was useless. Had to walk to the National Trust tent and pay, then back to the car, to display the ticket. Apart from that.. an absolutely perfect day
K. C.
Lovely beach and walks nearby. National Trust. Toilets in car park. Lovely for dogs.
A. B.
If you go to see the Red Squirrels you will need patience to catch a glimpse but it can be very rewarding when you do spot them.
Aside from that, the trials are a lovely walk which I have done multiple times. There is a picnic area you can stop and eat at the benches.
T. S.
The place is outstanding, it's quiet depending on the day you visit.
Pros: comfortable, clean, safe, sandy, spacious beach.
Cons: toilets close before 4pm, need to pay for car park.
n. a.
Beautiful place. Will definitely go again. The only problem was my elderly mum who has mobility problems had to walk a distance to the beach and back to the carpark again. But she loved the beach.
D. P.
A very beautiful but busy beach. Went there last week when the weather was 24•C 😁. So busy and it’s hard to find a place to lay down.
National trust should offer a wide parking because it’s so busy in the summer and I saw that people had to park outside local’s driveways. So many locals were angry because they couldn’t get out because of someone’s car parked outside their house.
A. H.
A lovely beach, just through the sand dunes. -£7:50 to park all day ( unless in the National Trust or have a disabled badge) it's a good walk to the toilet from the beach * they close at 16:00hrs.
S. N.
Absolutely love Formby, I worked there as a coastal ranger when I was younger and it brings all the good memories back.
It has everything, sea, beach, sand dunes, pine woods, flora, endangered species of wildlife. Beautiful
W. T.
Great place to go for a walk. Take your pick with the beach, dunes or woodland. Such as the Red Squirrel walk and asparagus walk all clearly signposted. Dog friendly too, plenty of space for them to have a good run on the beach. A great variety of walks in one place too.
S. K.
Beautiful nature reserve and beach! When the sea is out there's a really wide stretch of sand- the gradual gradient means the water is shallow for a good way out so perfect for children. Beware, quite a few jellies.. As expected it gets really busy on hot days/weekends - last time I was there the carpark was closed due to being full at 9:10am. Worth noting there is only one set of toilets and they open at 10 am. Also, I had no phone/internet signal in most areas but that was more of a blessing than anything!
I. o.
Beautiful place to visit and relax. I enjoyed the stroll to the beach, sand and fresh air ..so relaxing. After beach we walked through the woodland, which was just peaceful and we kept looking out for a red squirrel (maybe next time we see some).
A. N.
Beautiful place for some relaxing time.
D. T.
car park is easy but you gotta pay . it’s good 10-15 minute walk from car park till you reach to sandy area but if you really wanna hit beach n waives then that’s another 5-10 minute walk from where sand starts . Only thing is if you have kids and wanna take them along with stroller then it’s very challenging and tiresome cz you gotta push stroller in a sand and it’s hec of a work . very tiring unless your child big enough to walk but mine was a toddler and an infant so had to take stroller . once we reached to sandy area then it was very difficult to push stroller . other than that it’s relaxing place , less crowded and fun place for kids . toilet facility wasn’t that great .
I. A.
Born in Formby but moved away, I forget how beautiful the area is. The place would/could be nicer if the tramps that leave all the rubbish in the dunes took it to the car parks and bin it properly. I did bump into a man that went around picking up litter but as he said "it's a losing battle but someone has to try and keep it beautiful"
J.
It's ok, beach is nice average, there is alot of glass everywhere, had a lot of concern due to bring my family here. You just be careful it's a shame the beach doesn't get cleaned. I spoke to a few locals and they told my family which side to of the beach to stay at. Also warned us about glass.
Toilets are awful really really awful. So dirty smells not clean. Make sure you take wipes. Ice-cream prices are so pricey triple cost nothing else there. I did pack lunch for family the kids had fun. It's my second time coming here, don't think I want come here again. Have to pay for parking.
C. F.
Was very busy with lots of kids shouting and dogs off leads. Beautiful woods, but as a result of the kids and dogs no sign of squirrels. Also very expensive parking if not national trust members.
w. m.
very nice beach. have to be there early enough for a parking space or you are walking a lot to get there! Defo recommend this beach though. can get busy though
B. A.
Very sandy beach, was very packed with people yet had lots of space. Great place to take family for a nice day out. The beach was bigger than I expected. Had to walk about 10 minutes to get to the water. Wish the water was cleaner.
J. H.
Little bit expensive to park but you can stay all day. Dogs loved it they went in the sea and ran through the dunes. Food and drink available, toilets and large rubbish bins
E.
Outstanding nature reserve right on our doorstep in the northwest, without a doubt the best beach we have locally the sand dunes are great. parking is steep but goes towards the national Trust so can let them off. Or can park further away for free and walk a bit further.
S. G.
Such a lovely beach and my dog Wilbur certainly enjoyed himself 🐕🌊
J. P.
Formby is lovely - especially if you're willing to take the short hike away from the crowds. Its a beautiful and biodiverse place with some interesting historical things to find.
On the downside - carparking is a bit of a nightmare - it's expensive as you need to use an app, go online or make a call to do it and the signal is intermittent at best.
S. M.
If you like the sand and the sea but hate the shops this is the place to come. It can get packed on occasions but its a very nice beach with a bit of national trust forest to walk through. For me this was a 10 out of 10
D. G.
Great beach. Parking £7.50 for the day. Toilets close at 4pm.
Need a small bank loan to afford ice cream for 4 people.
Will definitely go back soon.
J. T.
One of my favourite beaches to go to in the North West! Every time I’ve been, their car park has always been full so be prepared to park elsewhere and walk a little further to get to the beach (make sure not to park on those yellow lines, not even the tip of your car otherwise the wardens will get you). If you’re meeting up with people, try and do it before you get onto the beach as there’s hardly any signal. If you park near the main entrance there are lots of lovely trails to get to the beach through the pine woods. The beach is lovely! You may have a little workout trying to get over the main entrance sand dunes near the main car park!
A. D.
Beautiful Woods meets Beach ⛱️
Gorgeous woodland and the best sand dunes in the North West
S. u.
A great day out on the beach. Clean and not crowded. Soft powder sand. Parking in the national Trust car park right next to the beach. Lots of walks in the woods to do and great fun on the dunes. Highly recommend a visit.
S. W.
Wonderful place and such a clean beach
K. K.
It is probably one of if not the best beach i have ever been to it is dog friendly the sand is the nicest sand I have ever felt and is a 10/10 place to go i would highly recommend going to it. It has so many things to do for everyone e.g. arcades places to eat and a bit for all the family.
N. H.
Beautiful beach, barely any stones and breathtaking sea view. Had a wonderful day with the family. Parking is quite expensive and toilets are awful.
L. C.
Great place to go for a walk round, regardless of the weather, it is quite easy to get lost in the Pinewoods if you stray off the beaten track but that's all part of the fun and eventually you will come back to a main path.
There are toilets and usually an ice cream van on the main car park area.
If you bring your own food and drink then please take your used packaging / litter home with you, if you've carried it from the car when it's full then it'll be a even easier when it's empty 👍🏼😎
J. B.
Amazing day spent at the Formby Beach 🏖️
i. p.
Nice but you might be better if you go on the car park that's NOT on lifeboat road though, it's a bit of a trek from that car park to be honest, not bad if you've no elderly or kids though. They might want to keep a better eye on the parking machines though lifeboat road one is a bit iffy.
s. b.
Starting with parking. Plenty of it just very hard to pay for it. The machines dont take card payment and there is little or no Internet to register online. Which left a que of people with the quandary of pay when you get home if you can be bothered or just leave without enjoying the day.
Parking payment asside lovely beach partially spoilt by litter left from folks bbqs. No bins to encourage folk to use them other than 1 in the carpark that was overflowing.
Nice mr whippy van reasonably priced
S. H.
After driving through an apparently endless housing estate we were pleasantly surprised to find a belt of woodland extensive sand dunes and finally a huge, almost empty beach (this was mid-week in early July, I suspect it can get really busy at weekends and holiday times).
I. K.
This beach is a gem. Very well looked after and clean. The water is pretty clear and you will spot the odd crab and jellyfish. The water is not too deep so ideal for kids to paddle in. The sand dunes are quite high and picturesque. Definitely one for the staycation
V. z. M. B. J.
A beautiful place, lots of paths for hiking, well-marked trails, rich flora and fauna and this beach! Beautiful, clean and so wide. There was just an outflow hence a double impression. We was first time but definitely not last.
S. k.
Nice clean beach. Great walk around. Parking can be difficult at busy times but other than that the car park is sufficient.
A. “. A.
Lovely National Trust beach. Would recommend parking at Lifeboat Road for ease of parking. Parking is free to National Trust Members (of course).
J. R.
Beautiful and clean place to go for a walk with the whole family (plus dogs). Range of environments from open grassy banks, to pine cone forest, a lake with ducks (and squirrels though I didn't spot any), to the beach that stretches for miles!
K. R.
Great long beach. Great for social distancing. Better to go when the tide is going out, as there is more space. Get there early, as it gets very busy in the car park.
Limited toilet facilities. The only toilets I have spotted there are the ones in the national trust car park at Formby Point.
There is an ice cream van in the car park near the beach at Formby Point. There is also usually one near the toilet facilities, but I didn't see it on this visit. Just down from the toilet block there used to be a National Trust mobile snack facility open, I didn't see this time as we were too early so I'm not sure whether it's still there or closed because of covid.
A.
Parking is expensive but it is a really nice beach
X.
One of my favourite beaches that's a part of the national trust. Theres a good walk around the Woodlands and across the beach , if the weather's good you and the kids could spend hours on the beach or running up and down the sand dunes. Icecream Van's and a place to get tea or coffee there and toilets.
G. S.
Awesome place. I went by train, easy way to beach take 15 mins from train station. There is no toilets. Only when you going from Freshfield train station. Parking spaces cost 7.50£ lovely walks through the forest. I really enjoyed it.
H. K.
Simple beautiful beach with wonderful views and plenty of space. Oasis of calm in easy reach of most in NW England Very well maintained by National Trust. Rabbits and Squirrels everywhere!!
Real winner for kids and adults alike!
Suitable for social distancing!
s. s.
Beautiful beach with stunning views all around. There is a 10 minute walk from the cat park through the forest before you get to the beach which we thought made it even more enjoyable. Couldn't recommend this beach more.
C. R. H.
Formby Forest and Formby itself is lovely. It is very similar to the Newborough Forest, here on Anglesey and offers the visitor the very rare opportunity here in the UK to see a section of forest run right down to the beach / sea. Good for parking, good facilities and friendly staff etc. Not to be missed! :)
t. y.
Such a lovely place to visit with the family or just on your own. Lots of wooded areas as well as a superb beach and sand dunes.
Lots of wildlife too including Red Squirrels Birds Foxes and Amphibians.
You can even get a bite to eat at the food van join the National Trust and go to the toilet! Not necessarily in that order. =)
S. G.
Lovely walk at formby as always, if you go during summer get there early as parking is limited, there are toilets on site its dog friendly and a really good walk , beaches are spotless so is the site will be back in spring 🙂
A. N.
Nice Beach... Reaching the beach through sand and grass filled planes is bit difficult job... Especially with kids.. As there is a long distanc3 to walk, walking in the sand will be difficult.
P. A. -. P. T. M.
Unique mixture of sand dunes pine-tree mini forests parks and beautiful foot paths!
You can spend a valuable day here with your family!
b. r.
Formby forest is an wonderful peaceful area for a fantastic day out, famous for the red squirrels. Everyone enjoys walking through pine woods, forward high sand dunes to spend some hours on the endless beach. Bring a picknick basket as there are no facilities to stop for lunch.
D. A.
Great dunes and gently sloping sandy beach, well worth a visit. Access over the dunes could be tricky if you are not very mobile. Woodlands behind are very nice for a walk as well, although sadly the red squirrels were hiding on our visit.
E. B.
Nice beach to visit with the family. The sea is was quite far the beach when we visited so was quite a walk. Also getting from the car to the beach is hard work. Going up a slight hill with beach sand everywhere is hard work. It's the most annoying anything about the whole visit. If you have kids in pushchairs, it is a mission getting to the beach. The car park isn't too expensive but fills up really quickly. If you're visiting and the car park is full then "it's one out, one in" can take a while getting in. However I would suggest parking in the surrounding streets as it's free and not far to from the entrance. However if you take into account the distance from the streets to the beach or would take you a good 20 minutes plus to get there. However is a great walk with kids. There's also designated picnic areas where there's wooden benches to enjoy a small picnic. There's a small and pit to keep the little ones occupied. Overall it's a lovely place to visit apart from the walk up and down the hill.
S. E.
We didn't see any red squirrels which was a bit disappointing but the walk through the woods and then over the dunes was fantastic.
Other than not seeing any squirrels the only issue was the amount of time spent in traffic waiting to get in.
Great day out overall.
A. S.
A lovely place to walk, clear the cobwebs and breathe in the fresh sea air. Very well managed by the National Trust and an army of volunteers.
A. K.
Horse-friendly access to the beach from the designated horsebox car park. Clean, tidy and a beautiful beach.
N. P.
I last visited over 20 years ago when the red squirrels were regularly fed and would approach visitors. I was told that the regular feeding has stopped so the squirrels venture over a wider area and are more difficult to see at this time of year (early March). I could hear a few eating in the tree tops, and could see where a couple were, but only one came down to ground level. That said, this is still a great nature reserve with some excellent walks and habitats in the woodland and on the dunes.
A. S.
Great place to enjoy walks on the beach, treks thought the woodlands, and a picnic in the dunes.
H. O.
This is a great green space which is good for wildlife. the conifer woodland is quite atmospheric and supports a population of red squirrels. The dunes provide a buffer that take you down onto the beach and it's changing tides. The grass/scrub provides another interesting habitat where birds of prey hunt, rabbits graze and birds flit about. It has lots of desire line pathways to meander through or a well-defined walk that can be downloaded off the website. Well worth a visit at any time of year
G. C.
Great day out at Formby point on the beach can be a bit of a trek for any one with disabilities but beautiful if you get the weather like today plenty of wildlife and flora to see in the nature reserves
B. H.
Formby is and always will be one of the most beautiful, peaceful places in the NW of England. Not only is it one of the few places in the country where you can still see wild red squirrels, but it also has some of the most well kept forests and beaches for the public to enjoy. Parking is free to National Trust members, but even if you aren't a member it's not stupidly pricey. There are picnic tables dotted around so you can enjoy lunch with a view!
M. R.
Came here for a jog down the beach and a swim in the sea. Really great place for both, though the sea was a little chilly to start.
We managed to park in the Victoria road car park, which is really busy. It is worth noting it wasn't the sunniest day and we went early and there was still a 20-30min wait.
But at this car park, just past the ticket booth are clean toielts and some carts to get food and ice creams.
Once you drive down to the car park near the beach its a decent walk back.
The beach wasn't too busy and as you get further away from the entrance the quieter it gets.
Really nice place and great for swim in hot weather.
J. B.
I never knew about this place before, but such a good day out with the family. I'd definitely recommend going for the day, there's not much there, just an ice cream van so make sure you take food and drinks with you.
M. B. G.
Our favourite place to go to for relaxing walks and stunning views. It is always beautiful no matter what time of the day you’ll go or what weather you’ll encounter. Even in the winters’ cold weather this place doesn’t ceases to amaze me. Best beach in North West by far. There is even caravan side if you’d like to stay for a bit longer with kiddos or without. Either way is fine as the place has many attractions and things to do on offer. If you’d like to barbecue there are seating areas by the forest. Bear in mind that you’ll have to pay for the car park unless of course you don’t mind to have a walk and park on the main street called Bushbys Ln. It’ll take you approximately 10min to walk to the main car park and then another 10min to the beach.
F. F. K.
Excellent beach and dunes, convenient parking, several tents with food, at the entrance they ask you to pay £7.5 for a car, but you can come during the hours when there is no one at the entrance and then the entrance is free
D. M.
Possibly one of my favourite @National trust reserves.
Amazingly clean beach, lovely for walks with the dog and there's something I hadn't seen before each time I go.
Don't miss the squirrel walk and the old plantations... fancy a bit more? Discover the army training camp just down the beach, it's like zombie heaven!!
T. B.
Wonderful place to be whatever time of year you go. Frozen sands in the winter are great for climbing. Good little coffee trailer open most days. If you arrive early you don't have to pay for parking. Free parking for National Trust members. The red squirrels are great to see.
A. W.
Great place for young and old, take some nuts for the squirrels they love them and if your calm they will come really close up. There's plenty of places for picnics and then just a short walk down to the beautiful beach, and massive sand dunes which adds to the adventure 😁
L. S.
Formby pine woods and beach are gorgeous, could spend all day here.. food & drinks available at mobile catering vans.. have to pay for parking, but money well spent..
D. K.
Just over a mile from home. Free to park from 1/10 to 31/3...except at Easter...and also free in summer after 5pm. 6 mile stretch of coast up to a mile deep to the sea. Wonderful place to get away from it all. Toilets and ice cream van at Victoria road entrance.
J. H.
Easy to find, and free parking if your a National Trust member. Miles of coastline and forest paths to explore and get lost in. You may even spot a red squirrel.
I. W.
Beautiful and peaceful. Very atmospheric. I love that mountain bikes have been made welcome!
N. M.
Lovely place, beautiful beach, fantastic any time other than a sunny bank holiday, peaceful tranquility on the right day, I love it here.
d. r.
Free for members or £6.50 per car. Huge area ro walk around, dog friendly and you may see some animals along the way such as squirrels, sheep, horses, and rabbits. Stick to the map and you cant go wrong, however that said, watch where your walking as the map can be a little misleading. We went on a colder wintry day but it was still an enjoyable experience walking along the sand dunes, onto the beach, hearing the waves crash nearby, admiring the nature reserve. I can imagine it being beautiful on a warm sunny day. Definately worth a trip so take your packed lunch and off you go. Toilets are on site as well as small drink and food Van's but not too many as naturally this is a nature reserve and they want it to remain clean and tidy. Separate area to.eat within dog access just in case some people dont like dogs. Enjoy!
K. S.
We had a lovely day at Formby nature park, we explored the woods, didn't see any Red squirrels unfortunately . We enjoyed a walk along the beach, thr dogs were able to run off lead. Fabulous
E.
I love this place! So wild and the lights are Beautiful... Just to much people love this place too, and so their dogs do! But at the end of the day, it's Wilder and quiet!
r. n.
A very popular destination when the sun's out, this place is popular with walkers, cyclists and horseriders. Multiple paths through and around the sandhills, through the woods and onto the beach mean lots of different places to go and various things to see.
Wildlife includes rabbits, squirrels and many types of birdlife, so it's great for those who want to go taking photographs or just watching.
N. P.
Great place to visit and explore. There are multiple trails and paths to follow around the place, most leading to the beach. There are multiple scattered benches and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the surroundings. There are car parks located close, which can get very busy. Parking in the residential area is a better option, if a 15 minute walk is okay for you.
v. s.
Awesome place for kids and dogs to run around. The place does get crowded if you are using the car park run by National Trust. Free if you are a member. There's a short wait before we were able to get into the carpark as they operate a "car in car out policy".
The amazing sand dunes leading up to the beach gives way to loads of fun and running around. Our Lab absolutely went crazy here as did our two kids.
Some amazing photo opportunities. Highly recommended+++
S. H.
The best sandhills!! And brilliant woods for exploring/den making. Take a packed lunch and you can easily have a full day here when the weather's half decent. Just wish people wouldn't leave litter 😕
S. B.
One of my favourite places to go. Stunning beach and endless walks though the pinewoods. Breathtaking!!!
C. F.
One of my favourite beaches.. Beautiful sand dunes and lovely beach. Bit wet when we went but still beautiful
C. C.
Nice sandy beach.
Car park gets really busy in summer months. Be prepared to queue.
P. C.
Free parking over the winter... Fabulous walk for the dogs, in and out of huge sand dunes and then onto a massive stretch of sandy beach...
Topped off with an ice cream from a van on the car park...!
A beautiful spot for anyone to enjoy passing some time in...
S. S.
Stunning forest and beach walk location, plenty of parking but if your bot a member its £7.50 to park.
Absolutely stunning coast line and sand dunes, great place to walk your dogs.
C. A.
Beautiful place, amazing lack of commercialism. Toilets were open 10-4 on our visit and there was a pop up coffee shop trailer available. The woods and the beach were full of treasures for me and my kids to marvel at and collect. Will be back.
A. H.
Perfect day out as you have the choice of a massive sandy beach or woodland walk.
L. C.
The road up to the car park was very busy but so worth the wait, beautiful clean forest and Beach! Kids, dogs and adults all loved it !
C. M.
Brilliant day out for all the family, stunning walks, dune jumping lovely coastline and the sea. Plenty of families with dogs enjoying themselves.
L. C.
Beautiful place. Parking is easy, but one price (around £7.50) for however long you want, so would work out very pricey for a short visit. It's s short walk over sand dunes to the beach which is vast and sea here is very shallow.
M. Y.
Another beautiful long stretch of sandy beach I stopped off at on my journey across the country. I would definitely recommend this beach, I was there very early so I had the place to myself. I had a nice walk. This would be a good beach for families and children. There is parking and toilets too.
A. G.
An absolute beauty spot. We had an amazing time. If you're setting up for the day, don't be fooled by low tide. It comes in quicker than you realise - set up camp as close to the dunes as you can! Closest toilets are near the ice-cream van in the woods - go before you get to the beach otherwise it'll be using nature's doorstep to relieve nature's call.
R. T.
There's nothing much to do there unless you want a private place where you can relax and play some net ball
R. R.
I come here a few times all year round with my friends and our dogs, the landscape is amazing the contrast of greenery, woods, sand dunes and the sea. Good for everybody.
A. P.
Great, only time that it is unpleasant to visit here is Bank Holiday weekends / hot days when swarms of families attend with no "countryside etiquette".
For the dog walkers park at the southern car park (lifeboat road) and hop on the "lost resort trail" even for the locals you will he sure to find some new facts about the area.
M. K.
Such a beautiful beach. Great sand dunes, plvery peaceful. Lots of parking so it wasnt an issue to park despite waiting in a queue to get in due to narrow car by pass.
C. f. G.
The fisherman's path through the reserve is my favourite out the tracks for riding around but since all the high winds we recently had their is a lot of new dangers lurking, hard sandy ruts that suck your front mountain bike wheel in and try to make you lose momentum thus put your foot down , lovely place walk aswell.
J. A.
This is a lovely place to explore from the different paths down to the beach, the sand dunes and the beach itself. Definitely would recommend coming here as it's extremely peaceful.
H. C.
The dunes made up for the rain spells.
Sledging down sand dunes, paddling in a warm sea with friends and family. Wonderful Sunday. ❤️
A. K.
Great clean place, perfect for family picnic by the sea side. Price of the parking a bit steep as it was £7.50.mind that it's a charge for a full day. Still I would imagine they should have different tariffs for someone who wants to visit for just couple of hours. It's coins only too so be prepared.
E. M.
Lovely site open on Good Friday (even though it said it wasn't). Car park overpriced and only accepted cash (or phone but no signal). Great walk through the woods though we didn't spot any red squirrels this time. Sadly too many dog owners not keeping dogs on leads.
S. A.
Really nice place for family or even just a romantic stroll...
Parking can be an issue if the parking at the beach is full on a busy day
S. S.
A great place for a good healthy walk with beach, forests and sand hills.
S. M.
Absolutely stunning beach, definitely my favourite beach in the North West! Well kept by the National Trust
C. E.
Lovely peaceful place, you can walk on the beach or through the woods, looking out for squirrels, toads and lizards. Car parks are convenient but tend to get very full on busy days.
I. N.
Great place for visitors of all ages. Fantastic for families and dog owners. 7.50 parking fee or free for national trust members. Gets extremely busy on sunny days
D. H.
I've got mixed thoughts about this. My dog really loved it and it was beautiful and a great day out.
What puts me off was the plastic rubbish littered all over the place by the locals and the rubbish (huge bits of metal and plastic) that is washed up and just left there. It costs £7.50 to park there or is "free" if you pay the minimum £72 National Trust membership. I wouldn't mind paying that much if the National Trust took better care of this place. It was busy (on a Tuesday!), so they get the cash.
My dog absolutely loved the beach and the sea so I'm taking her back but probably not to Formby beach, at least not soon.
A. L.
Beautiful location. Decent size car park but No toilets is really bad for national trust in summer and so busy. They need to sort this out ASAP. Beautiful beach lovely sand and sea. Parking isn't cheap but we are trust members anyhow.
P. R.
Lovely open space by the sea. Will be visiting again.
A. N.
A great place to bring your kids and the whole family. The dunes are lovely and the beach is great for a long walk. It's free to enter, but a nearby car park is £7.50 for non-members. However, you can park further away for free.
D. B.
Everything great at Formby National Trust Beach except NOT A RUBBISH BIN anywhere for
members / visitors to leave their rubbish in . Amazingly Formby Beach is wonderfully clean
in spite of this ! My friend and I only collected one half bag of waste this afternoon and had to leave
it with the very kind Lifeguards ! TV channels are full of news of beach cleaning gangs saving the
planet ! This must be happening because no one provides bins on or near our beaches for the
public to put their rubbish in.

Beatiful place! Heaven on the Earth. You can enjoy the beach, dunes or forest. Perfect place to "recharge batteries"
J. F.
I wasn't aware until this morning how many woods are at Formby. I had the loveliest walk. And people were really friendly with everyone saying good morning. Great place!
c. d.
A good day out exploring the beautiful nature reserve. Lots of woodland to explore and then the beautiful beach too. The beach and sand dunes were clean. Managed to see 5 red squirrels!
G. S. E.
Lovely place for a walk, litter free & not overly crowded. No squirrels though as all are dead or dying from squirrel pox 😔
c. b.
Beautiful beach and coastal walks dog friendly. Keep a look out for the red squirrels in the woodlands near the car park which is just minutes from the sea.
B. G.
Red squirrels! A fantastic area with lots of nice walks. A expansive sandy beach with plenty of dunes. The red squirrel forest is packed with red squirrels who seem very friendly around humans. Can be a little busy and the car parks aren't the biggest
B. F.
Took advantage of global warming on a sunny Day mid November and had a great Day at a wonderful beach, dog friendly, spotless and only an hours drive from Home. ( 2 Giants & a Dog)
C. M.
Long beach, bracing, good carpark (free to NT members). Snack van there when I visited. Red squirrel trail and other woodland walks. Great for families, dogs and walkers. Very popular!!
n. “. f.
Great place red squirrel sanctuary great beach and dunes and prehistoric foot prints on the mud flats of early hunter gathers and animals such as deer wolves and auryx
M. L. (.
Wonderful place to visit , had a lovely walk in the woods however there were sadly no squirrels. There’s a lovely walk to the beach too.
F. P.
Easy access by car and train. National trust property. Pay to park only. Squirrels in the wooded area. Close to the beach. Huge beach when the tide is out. Toilets by the entrance. Perfect for taking a picnic.
M. W.
Rock up pay the Parking Fee and enjoy the walk, the beach and the woods. Sit 🤫 quite and wait for the Red Squirrels to appear.
Great National Trust place to visit.
I drove 100 miles for a good day out 😊😊
M. H.
I didn't go there myself but looked it up as some relatives where having a few days break there with their children.By the look of photos they posted it looked really nice.
A. H.
Lovely place to visit. Nice clean beach and sand dunes, nice woodland walks where we spotted 2 red squirrels. Helpful staff and coffee cabin crew. Only downside is it costs £7.50 to park and I can see it would be a nightmare on a busy day.
C. W.
Beautiful place. Lovely walks and loads of dogs
S. W. (. H.
Lovely place for a walk but sadly very few squirrels to be seen now.
It appears they have been dying off due to squirrel pox.
The squirrel walk is easy enough, a little hilly in places but not too challenging and offers access to the beach.
There are clean toilets and usually ice cream van as you enter the site.
It's best to pay to park or travel on by train as any cars parked on the roads surrounding here will be ticketed.
C. L.
Fantastic walks...and a few red squirrels as well! Well worth a visit.
S. S.
Fantastic place to go with family and kids. Quite crowded on sunny days. If it's a bright sunny day make sure that you are there early. You might end up in queue for atleast 2 hours minimum. Better to park on one of the streets and walk down to the beach. There are a couple of ice cream vans. And a small coffee shop so highly recommend to get your own picnic.
l.
A great place to walk and picnic on the beach or in the woodlands. Ample free parking for national trust members and an outdoor gym!
There are red squirrels too!
C. F.
Lovely place but a shame more care isn't taken to keep it free of bricks and litter, otherwise 5 stars would be given. Come on NT, get someone employed to keep the beach clean amd safe for the kids.
N. H.
Amazing place to go when you missing beach. Always very clean. One of the best spots to go on a sunny hot day.
M. C.
A beautiful expanse of soft sandy beach surrounded by sizeable dunes and clear crisp water accessed by shallow gradient. It's a short walk from the National Trust Lifeboat carpark that charges £7.50 a day, from dawn til dusk but is free of charge to NT members. In season there is often a handful of mobile caterers offering hot/cold beverages and hot food in the carpark. . It's important to note there are no facilities whatsoever on the beach itself, so stock up and pack provisions before departing and remember to bring everything you might need to spend the day as I'm certain you won't want to leave. Rarely feeling crowded due to the shear scale of the area, its worthwhile to bring a picnic and a good book and relax on the soft clean sand and unwind. Accessibility for disabled or elderly visitors is broadly arduous and for many impossible regrettably, but the 15 minute walk for those able bodied enough, is well worth the effort. Pay heed to the signposts and beach flags as Coastal advice regarding tides as well as strong water currents and the perils of soft sand are essential for a safe and enjoyable visit, remember no BBQ or fires permitted, this is an area of Outstanding natural beauty and deserves to remain so. A Rare beauty and one of my favourite places to Visit in Formby. 5 stars of hidden unspoilt beauty
J. M.
Great day out, beach and woodland trails. Car park gets busy and can be very slow getting in and out. Toilets and coffee on site. Take some nuts for the squirrels.
C. P.
Formby Point is a beautiful location. The area is under the protection of the National Trust. Their representative at the entrance was friendly and informative, clearly explaining where the best place would be to park our motorhome. The walk through the dunes to the beach was wonderful on a glorious October morning.
j. b.
Beautiful walk down to beach .sadly saw no red 🐿️ probably wrong time of day.helpful NT person useful as no signal to do parking app so paid her.dies take change 7pounds 50pence all day
s. X.
If you are not a national trust member, make sure you bring £7.50 in coins for parking, the other option is to pay by phone but there is no service in areas. Some people didn't pay and went on anyway, I hope they didn't get tickets x
J. C.
Went for the sunset on summer solstice 2021. It was lovely and quiet, peaceful and relaxing.
R. D.
Massive sandy beach and dunes. Red squirrels can be seen in woods around here. Unique landscape. Toilets . Parking . Catering van. Beach.
K. M.
One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited in England, and dog friendly! Limited facilities tho.
H. K.
Pleasant morning stroll. Don't get me wrong, this is Northern England so it wasn't likely to be mega hot but it was nipper than I expected and I've come home with a bucket full of sand in my shoes! In all seriousness, I am a lone female and I was perfectly content and confident to stroll about alone and explore along the coast. Every single person I spoke to said good morning and quite frankly I'm just not used to it! You can walk for miles and miles and its glorious. I sat in the sand dunes and read a book for a few hours and loved every second. Parking is free for National Trust members but £7 I think for non members. Go early if you can, the traffic builds up and the roads are narrow and people start to be turned away by the marshalls.
L. D.
Beach was clean and lots of space. Nice on a hot day. Tide comes in fast so best to stay near dunes
T. M.
Lots of places to explore and long beach to walk along. Minimal toilets 10 minutes from the beach. No signal. Lots of litter.
J. L.
How beautiful is this place. On a sunny day one could be anywhere in the world. Who needs to venture abroad with beaches like this!
A great find I'm sure we'll visit regularly.
Car park is £6.50 - free parking also available not too far away but most roads are yellow or double yellow lines.
Ice cream van in parking area and toilets on way in. For food drink games and shelter, be sure to take your own as no other amenities on beach.
Beautiful countryside walks and woodland too where you might spot now very rare, red squirrels!
Clean beautiful sandy beach and on a hot day, clear, warm - ISH water.
A really pleasant suprise as one of the nicest English beaches.
Not keen on the few unauthorised topless sunbathers though. Wish they'd remember there are families around.
L. B.
Amazing walk, and beautifully clean and for the biggest bonus you get to see the beach and the sea.
J. C.
Lovely place to visit but a lack of rubbish bins
C. J.
Absolutely amazing place. Beautiful. Will definitely be returning here soon.
R. B.
Maintained by National Trust, nicer shoreline compared to Crosby and water was much nearer. Not spotless but clean.
Found parking easy, and Trust membership cars worked like a breeze on scanning for parking ticket.
Loads of bricks lying all over the place with demolished wall components (probably by water) is a shame as it should have been cleared ASAP especially when the site is maintained by the Trust. It is ugly as well as dangerous.
Another issues is they close toilets at 4 while the site closes at 5, and Trust employees come in like prison guards for those toilets to be closed. I was amazed at the lack of common sense and toilet protection level 🙄
D. G.
Lovely place to walk picnic and see some amazing wildlife,
J. S.
Pleasant walk but very busy. Car park full and people parking in nearby housing estates to access the woodlands and the beach. Walk a mile north on the beach and its deserted.
M. S.
Beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see some red squirrels! We did find the official map difficult to comprehend compared to google maps but we still had a good walk around the sand and trees!
The route is really open and sometimes really steep, so bring comfortable shoes. It's also worth noting that the toilets are right back at the start of the entire reserve, so you do have to do a short hike to get back.
I. D.
What a gorgeous beach this is. Lovely sand dunes and nice water for a paddle or a swim.
A. L.
I love everything about this beach and woodland area.
Fantastic place to visit whatever the weather, kept clean and safe by the staff and some wonderful volunteers.
Many, many happy memories here.
N. M.
An absolutely wonderful treasure, the beach is a fantastic stretch to walk along and the woods and squirrel sanctuary are amazing ways to unwind and de-stress.
F.
Miles of sand and sea. Beautiful dunes. It's a shame it's not free to park there anymore since the National trust took over.
S. h.
Beautiful! So many different interesting routes to take through the woods. The friendly volunteers at the entrance gave us a map to find our way around. The red squirrels were running around and came right up to the paths. We walked straight from the woods to the beach and sand dunes and the beach rivalled some I've walked along in the Med! I will be going back! There was quite a queue forming as we left at 14:30 though so the earlier the better.
D. E.
Great place to visit. Toilets are open until 4pm. Beautiful beach to take the dog and various paths to use to reach the beech.
T. S.
Great place for a walk, dunes would make it tough for some.
Had to queue for 1/2 hour to get in or it would've been 5-star.
L. C.
Lovely walk on Formby beach
Only problem the parking is £7.50 for the day, as we arrived late afternoon, and stayed only a couple of hours it meant it worked out quite expensive.
G. A.
My favourite place in the world!
M. N. S.
beautiful beach with clean area if weather is sunny than this is a must go place
R.
Beautiful, peaceful beach.
S. R.
Amazing beach, must go day trip. Massive sand dunes. Great mobile cafe. Weather was lovely too.woodland beautiful.
M. E. L.
Lovely british beach. Busy on the hottest days of the year. Much nicer along the beach area nearest to the forest.
M. S.
What a beautiful woodland behind the blown sand dunes and clean open beach.
Enjoy the open air.
M
A. R.
fave place to visit with my friends ! take a bag full of snacks and some towels and sit and have a lovely picnic on the beach or surrounded by wildflowers. stunningggg ! (pls remember to pick up ur litter tho !)
J. B.
We caught the bus from Southport to Formby. There's not many sign posts for the beach and we found ourselves walking around in circles. We did find a Wetherspoons (The Lifeboat) and yes we needed rescuing and had a drink or two. We never made the beach. Pity the local bus doesn't stop at the dunes.
R. J.
I love a boardwalk t make the walk to the beach a little easier. Gorgeous golden sand. Fantastic staff.
k. s.
Very nice place. Lovely beach and beautiful forest. Red squirrels as well are very nice, but not a lot of them, maybe in autumn time there are more of them.
A. D.
Stunning beach and forrest owned by the national trust. Parking is on the expensive side, but its all day parking so just make sure your there for a few hours
F. O. A. W.
A beautiful beach only let down by a stretch of rubble where some construction has been demolished.
Pieces of rebar and wire are left without any sort of cordon meaning kids freely risk injury should they not resist the temptation of climbing said rubble.
Clean up that mess and you've got a 5 star beach there.
K. C.
I went today . 1st car park was full around 2.15 pm.
so I use another car park. parking cost £7.50.you need to download app for pay or cash coin .no card payment .
There is toilet facility at carpark which open 10am -4 pm.
no shops .
Sand beach is ok , sea water is not very clean .although lots of people I saw swimming .There is a life guard station .
Because of school term time beach was not crowded at all.
K. S.
I love this place! The beach is so nice! There's plenty of space for everybody. Sand dunes are huuuge! I'll keep on visiting! Highly recommended! You won't be disappointed that's for sure!
A. W.
Awesome place to take a wonderful walk all year round. Parking is a joke since National trust got involved. The price is excessive with the aim of getting an annual national trust membership.
M. H.
A wonderful place for a family walk. There's plenty of route's to get you down to the sand dunes. The parking is free of you're a National Trust member. Make sure you follow the brown National Trust signs as the entrance is at the end of a housing estate.
R. G. G.
Stunning beach! You can walk for miles on the golden sand, ideal spot for a day out with your dog. Big car park with toilets and ice cream van.
D. D.
Fantastic place.Great for families with small kids as well. You need to take a water and food with your self if you want to spend some time there .
e. h. g.
Great place for walk and relax on the beach, bring some picnic with you (don't forget to take your rubbish back 😀), amazing place really need to visit when you want hear sea and feel gorgeous sand,😁😍
G. G. H.
Formby point nature reserve is a fantastic part of the north west coastline. With undulating dunes leading to a lovely long beach overlooking the irish sea you can sit and watch the ships coming and going from the port of Liverpool. The other part of this area is the pine woods. A fabulously quiet area with abundant wildlife and the famous red squirrels i cannot reccomend this place highly enough
D. W.
Great place to walk dogs forest and beach let down by the removal of bins. no one likes carrying bags of poo around for hours
R. H.
Lovely beach with large sand dunes Great forest walk with a chance of seeing red squirrels
A. N.
Loved it. Beautiful clean beach. Great day out with family and dog.
L. M.
Great day out, lovely walks and amazing views. The parking a bit expensive but expected for the National Trust if you're not a member.
F. I.
As a National Trust member, this place is one of my favourite ones as it involves a nice walk in the forest leading to a nice sandy beach.
E. B.
A lovely place very good walks what ever the weather
Parking can be difficult when a very busy time summer holidays 😃
c. l. f.
Lovely place to walk the dogs, beach there woods back again. Go early for ease of parking. The further you walk the quieter it is.
F. W.
What a place! We only had 4 hours here but could have stayed so much longer! It's just amazing!!
j.
Beautiful beach, a great place to go for a walk and some lovely fresh air! Certainly a place to go to blow the cobwebs off. We had a great couple of hours they're, the children loved playing in the sea.
R. 7.
I love Freshfields, it’s been somewhere I’ve visited since I was a child. A lovely walk, topped with a nice beach. Something for everyone!
Always see the red squirrels too. It’s a nice day out, or ideal for a quick trip
M. H.
Superb long lovely beach , but get there early or you will have nowhere to park !
C. A.
Lovely sand but no toilets near beach. Hard walk over sand dunes to the beach.
D. W.
Great coastal paths, dunes and woodland walks. A red squirrels if lucky.
M. S.
A nice place to visit. No overcrowding here and amazing for a day out.
B. K.
Nice walking trails and sandy beach.Big let down was water quality is not great compares to Cornish beaches.
S. K.
Love this place and keep going back... Though need to sort out car parking payment. Coins only machine or Paybyphone.... In a real signal blackspot.
L.
Beautiful beach and woodland with a Red Squirrel Trail. Coffee at the little cafe is top class :) great place to unwind and connect with nature
A. L.
Lots of rubble on the beach. Spoiling an otherwise beautiful spot. Lots of kids getting high in the evening. Wasn't impressed by that.
D. N.
Great place, big beach, lots of sand dunes and pine trees. When weather is good it doesn't feel like the UK.
M. R.
Amazing place just 25 minutes drive from Liverpool city centre. Unfortunately it's ruined by people dumping their rubbish everywhere. Nothing to complain about otherwise.
M. D.
Fantastic area for running/ walking /biking/hiking with a lovely breathtaking stretch of flat beach. Went for a dog walk on a trail via the beach in November sunshine. Definitely worth a visit. Has toilet facilities.
K. M.
Absolutely beautiful. Well worth the drive. Take a. Picnic and spend the day here. Sand, beach, dunes and plenty of room to have your own secluded spot even at busy times.
N. H.
Beautiful sand dunes. Sea goes out to show a lovely sandy beach. Toilets are a bit of a trek from beach.
D. S.
Lovely beach
Big also a super busy one when the weather's good compared to others
A. D.
Great place for woodland and beach walking as well as seeing the red squirrels. Temporary closed due to storm damaged trees (January 2022) but still accessible on foot if you park elsewhere and take care of fallen and damaged trees. Normally very busy but worth a visit all the same.
A. M.
Special location just a shame that the visitors make such a mess. Any visitors please take your rubbish home so others can enjoy the place too.
A. K.
This time it was Foremba great place for families with children, there is a toilet although a little further from the beach. The plaza is big and the children can run out without fear of running into the sea and doing something I recommend
C. B.
Brilliant beach and lovely walks through the sand dunes or straight to the beach.
Parking is over £7 so if you are not spending the whole day it's rather expensive for a dog walk.
New coffee wagon there which was nice to get a nice fresh coffee after a big walk.
Also new addition of toilets being built
T. R.
Very nice area with good signs/directions. A piece of nature - good for taking a walk.
S. F.
Nice walk through the woods and over the dunes to the beach from Freshfield station on the Merseyrail line. Can get a bit wet and muddy on the tracks depending on the weather, but they're well marked and maintained.
Y. R.
Such a lovely place to walk. Parking is expensive and it can get busy on warmer days, but it's a vast place, worth many visits
Y.
Car park close by ran by National Trust - members park free. Dunes, forest, clean beach.
M. M.
Great place for kids and dogs. The boys love the sand dunes. Didn't see any red squirrels this time.
M. S.
Amazing place for everyone, relaxing, calming, soothing, Highly recommended!
J. T.
One of my favourite places. Love coming here with our children. We come here for long walks in the woods, make sandcastles and play in the sea which by the way can get really nice and warm during summer season.
M. J.
A great dog friendly beach with good access unless you use a wheelchair, in which case there are a few hundred metres of soft sand/grass areas to traverse to reach the coast.
The carpark machines (a steep £7.50 unless you have national trust membership making it free) we're not in operation when we visited.
A very clean beach with visible patrols.
A. K.
This message is a must go to
beach on a real sunny day . Nice clean beach. Even for a picnic.
R. G.
huge dunes, nice place to walk. it is long walk from car park thru the forest before you get to the sea
p. f.
Beautiful place to be,walking up and down the sandhills, the only issue is rubbish and empty bottles dumped and lying around.well worth a visit
D. W.
Although paying £6.50 to park near a beach is a bit steep, the coastline is long & good for a walk.
There is also a large wooded area in the sand dunes.
J. Y.
I love this beach. Its clean, dog friendly, has a coffee van on site and toilets that are open 8-4pm- what more could you need!
There's loads of parking but its also dead easy to find from the train station (turn right out the station and walk straight down the road 10-15min walk).
The red squirrel forest is right next to the beach and is also a nice walk.
S. J.
A great way to see red squirrels in the woodland, plus there is Formby Beach to visit which is a wonderfully secluded location to go to. A definite must visit for all nature lovers and enthusiasts.
J. B.
Wasn't too busy - but then again I went on a Wednesday. But it's sandy and not too breezy. Well worth a visit. Just get there early if you want to park somewhere!
C.
Lovely little beach that would be absolutely perfect if it wasnt for people littering. This isnt an issue once you walk further away from the parking area and my kids love running up and down the sand dunes. Parking can get busy if the weather is nice so i would recommend leaving early!
D. W.
Beautiful place. Well done nature, you've aced it again!
K. D.
It is awesome places and views out there. Perfect for cycling, jogging and more.
H. H. A. H.
Beautiful sand dunes.
L. O.
So Peaceful! Made even better by the coffee hut at the beginning of the trail!
M.
Great National Trust site, so much history and a collection of Armour and weapons collected by the Victorian owners
S. J.
Great place but gets very busy on hot sunny days
J. N.
Gorgeous trail through the woods to the beach. A small coffee hut to get refreshments along your walk.
P. K.
A totally incredible place to visit for peace and tranquility and to clear your head of stuff highly recommended
K. J.
Beautiful place, beautiful walk, lovely empty beach at the end. Amazing spot!
W. S.
Lovely walk following the squirrel walk, but didn't see any squirrels, to the beach.
A. N.
Brilliant beach and surrounding environment, clean, tidy with good natured visitors.
S. I.
Beautiful beach with sand dunes, with a lovely forrest to walk through. Just a shame there is not enough parking space.
J. H. -. M.
National trust place so relaxed and helpful staff
M. A.
Beautiful scenery and nice sandy beach. Try to catch high tide though.
T. A.
Absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. First visit, but will definitely go again. Love the little coffee caravan too.
G. R.
Lovely big clean beach. Bit of a walk from carpark that cost £7.50
T. P.
1st time to this location and will return. Had great day. We ended the day watching sun go down with fish and chips. local chip shop (Cash ONLY)
w. t.
A gorgeous place to walk. Woods beach ice cream. Would definitely recomend
R. H.
Good parking, Loads of space, acres of dunes, could easily spend a day here. A long walk to the beach for the less abled.
D. S.
Absolutely gorgeous beach, very busy on bank holiday weekends. Toilets are now on the main car park. Best to go when the tide is coming in as the sea can be a long walk unless you love a walk down to the sea anyway! Lots of people take their dogs here too. Would say it's a good 10 minute walk from the car park 😊
P. K.
The best beach on this side of the coast from Liverpool to Blackpool.
The woods make the beach unique and interesting. Especially beautiful at sunset.
R. L.
Always a pleasure to visit this natural and unspoilt location, consisting of sand dunes and beach, where all parking is now free to members..
C. W.
Beautiful place, lovely scenic walks and adorable red squirrels. Will definitely visit again
S. M.
I love this place it has everything. Sea, beach, forest. Just beautiful.
K. D.
Lovely place for a walk, even with a pram (although you'd struggle on the beach obviously). Always an ice cream van on the grounds for a little treat and the toilets are as well kept as you'd like.
G.
Amazing to walk out of the forest straight onto the beach. Best of both worlds. And to think we saw red squirrel too.
J. N.
Really nice beach with soft white sand. Loads of parking.
Only issue is pay an display machine is cash only and there is app info displayed on the side of the machine...but zero phone signal
J. C.
Love this place. I grew up in Formby and I'm a National Trust member. The walks through the woods are excellent and the beach is expansive when the tide is out. Recommended
G. D.
We love Formby and we go several times a day, the negative thing about this beach is so many teenagers coming and throw away all of the rubbish around and never clean! Hope one day someone control this issue! Other than that this beach is one of biggest and softest sandy beach in North.
A. T.
What a beautiful beach and dog friendly, which makes it perfect.
There is ample free parking but if you can support the national trust parking would be free nearer to the beach.
M. P.
This is why we went. I was told the squirrels were literally everywhere but bless them, there is a pox they are contending with and we also got there after an almighty thunder and lightening storm the previous night for hours!!! So I was very chuffed this little chap was very obliging.
L. C.
The beach is amazing and very clean, crowded near to the entry paths but easy to find a quieter spot, some lovely paths to walk on through the forest, we found it difficult to navigate using the map and the signage along the paths was sparse. A great day out with beach and forest options, some guides/employees near to the carpark and toilet facilities that close at 4pm.
C. A.
Tranquil beach, miles of open space.Rip off car park charge £7.50
I. R.
Lovely beach and friendly NT staff 👍👍
A. S.
Great place for chilling on weekends. A good place to walk around as well.
B. A.
It certainly delivered on the promise to see red squirrels! They were very abundant and active! Cars cost £6.50 each, NT members for free. There are basic refreshments and toilets on site
R. F.
Beautiful, windy beach, rustling woods where everyone says hello. The national trust is doing a great job with the upkeep since taking over recently.
I. V.
A lot of people, long way ,too much time lost on the way to get in,a few alternative for food and drink ! Warm and clean water ,a lot of space for kids and pets! Decent ...
K.
Beautiful beach. Not much around in regards to shops or food establishments but we always take a picnic. The beach is gorgeous, lovely, clean, soft sand, the dunes are great to explore. I love the fact that there is a coast guard at this beach.
A. A.
The sand is absolutely beautiful .
Food, ice cream and toilets are quite far from the beach.
G. Y.
Beautiful coastline, clean, ample parking and lovely woodlands. Only problem is the queue for the car parks on a busy day, but once parked, it's a fabulous place to visit. Dog friendly too.
D. S.
Sea was brown but was lovely for the location and a fun relaxing time
F. C.
Beautiful beach to be with family and enjoy a sunny 🌞 day
А.
I love it! Amazing nature around. Nice ans quite place. It's comfortable for families with children, for waking dogs etc.
A. F.
Absolutely beautiful place to visit and walking your dog. Mine loved it. Picnic o the beach but you can picnic in the woods plenty of benches would recommend
D. T.
It's a nice place but I don't understand why the bricks and rubble aren't cleared, potentially quite dangerous for children paddling.
D. S.
Very nice place too spend the day relaxing on the beach or exploring
m. i.
Kids loved the sand dunes and long beach.
S. M.
Beautiful busy beach with lots of families and dogs, easy to find a quiet spot to relax in the dunes or further on.
J. F.
Absolutely one of my favourite places to go for a run, the nature reserve at formby is a great place to take family and go for walks with friends- also the ainsdale and birkdale sands just up the coast - great for running trails just stick to the main paths as can quickly turn into wet sand - the whole area is well maintained and the a shame when you see littering. Amazing to get down here for a west coast sunset. Bellisima! 🌞
A. J.
Go in the evening to avoid the busy time and youll have big wide open spaces, huge sand dunes and a gorgeous clean beach almost to yourself. Fantastic for dog walkers.
D. C.
Lovely for a day out, both forest and beach.
S. H.
Moonlight goddess meditation evening. It was amazing, on the beach, beautiful soft sand. Girls only. abfab.
S. B.
Beautiful scenery
The walk along the beach front is a must. spotting the squirrels in the trail was hard we didnt see any!
Big que for carpark!!
B. M.
Great place to spend a few hours either climbing the sand dunes or walking through the pine Forrest spotting the red squirrels. National trust car park so £6 per car or free to NT members. Toilets facilities and usually a van to get an ice cream or snack from. Well worth a visit.
C. M.
A nice area to enjoy countryside and beach. The sea was nice aswell.
