Amazing theatre. The most friendly informative employees and security I have ever encountered at a theatre.
They require a negative lateral flow test in the last 48 hours. No need for COVID passport.
And of course the show (Cabaret) was amazing.
K. E.
CABARET WAS SIMPLY FABULOUS! Enthralled from the start. At times there were goosebumps, other times laughter, but all of the time you were scared to blink in case you missed any detail of this wonderful show. ALL of the cast were just wonderful, even the orchestra was beautiful! Each part was perfection, different and similar to the Broadway, book, movie, just a class act. So excited when I got tickets, I knew it would be good, but I was so emotional when it was one of the best shows ever! Signed Number 1 Cabaret fan all my life.
R. P.
Fantastic production of Cabaret. From the entrance to the finale it was a fabulous experience. The leads were all excellent, as expected although Jessie Buckley's rendition of the titular song was so powerful and moving. Just beware the loo queues at the interval, especially the ladies.

CHAMPAGNE all the way. One of the most brilliant four hours I've ever spent in a theatre. Captivating, enthralling, mesmerising. The creative team that put this all together must take a serious standing ovation. Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley are superb. The whole cast are amazing from sleezy entrance via the boiler room corridor in the basement to emerge into a sexy bar mingling with performers and great musicians, through to curtain up and onto the finale, they create the atmosphere of a bohemian Berlin night club - The Kit Kat Club - so much better than The Playhouse Theatre. The theate required considerable restructuring of the stalls, stage and orchestra areas, so cleverly done. The immersive nature of this production means the actors and musicians appear around you if you're in the stalls where very small tables for food and drink to be served in your ticket price. The Moët is delicious, the chilled food was very average and needs seriously changing with the exception of the dessert. Buy a program at the bar before you go to your seats. Wheelchair users, check very carefully before booking.

Leave you troubles at the door. This theatre has been transformed to an wonderful 1930 Berlin nightclub. Brilliant atmosphere.
The staff were friendly. Slight warning the toilet are mostly unisex, not sure if this is a permanent thing or just for this production.
On a side note the production of 'cabaret' was fantastic and highly recommend you see it. The whole evening was immersive.
S. N.
Absolutely chilling production of Cabaret. Well thought-out sightlines - we were seated in the upper circle and had a clear view of all the action. Theatre staff were helpful with getting me to my seat; noticed I use a walking stick and showed me to the accessible theatre entrance.
J. P.
Seats were really comfortable and we had a nice front view. The theatre itself was a bit small and it was a bit cluttered in the beginning and at the end. Not sure which was the best way to navigate it and there was minimal assistance initially. The show was really mediocre in story and performance but that's another story.
N. P.
Brilliant reimagining of this gorgeous theatre. The show itself is mind blowingly brilliant.
A. S.
What a great transformation from Playhouse to Kit Kat Club. From the moment you enter you get a good vibe for what is about to unfold on stage.
This production of Cabaret is excellent. I've not seen a better performance of the title song than the one delivered by Jessie Buckley. Eddie Redmayne's MC was eerie and omnipresent. The entire ensemble was superb.
A stand out production of all the hundreds of shows I've ever seen.
R. N.
You descend into a world of decadence with a glass of schnapps. Then the party begins! Champagne flows and there's music and dancing all before the show which will have you entranced. The amazing characters, set and costume sends you to pre war Berlin, a place of excess and secrets. Wholly enjoyable!
C. N.
This was AMAZING. The whole experience whirled us away to Berlin. The costumes, design, décor, staging etc. of the whole theatre made this one of the most fabulous theatrical experiences of my life. And that is before I even mention the performance of the cast. I knew they could act, but Jessie Buckley has a brilliant singing voice and Eddie Redmayne's movement control and skill made it spectacular. But everything worked beautifully together.
B. N.
This was SUPERB!! Had a great evening with great friends. The entire experience draws you in to feel that you are back in the 20's and 30's. If you get the chance to see the show, DO IT!!
G. M.
This was such a brilliant experience! Quality all the way through. I won't say too much as I don't want to spoil the experience for others. Just a tip... Go and see this show, it's a must!
L. P.
The show was absolutely brilliant, it felt like we were in 1930's Berlin and we dressed as if we were too and that was fun ! Eddie Redmayne was phenomenal, honestly cannot describe how good he was, we were disappointed not to have Jessie Buckley at our performance but Billie Piper was very good. The only very small disappointment was that we were celebrating my friends 60th and had ordered a bottle of German sparkling wine to our table when I purchased the tickets and despite being at our table by 7.15pm because the waitress was so busy we were told they wouldn't bring it until the interval which was 1 hrs 40 mins later ! But otherwise was stunned with the excellent show 🥳
V. E.
I was lucky to win in the Cabaret £25 lottery, and it was one of my favourite experiences ever. The show is great, The cast is amazing, and I'm really grateful for this opportunity.
W. A.
I am no theatre critic but wow, what a show! The Kit Kat club is fabulous from the wonderful leads to the entire company. We loved it and will probably pay the money again (maybe not bother with the food).
It is sensational.
R. B.
From the moment you step in (through the back door, literally), you are in 1930s Berlin. The whole experience and show deserve more than 5 stars. Cabaret is must-see stuff. Tip: arrive at least 45 minutes before start time.
C. S. J. D.
What a phenomenal experience. We had a table for two. The whole emmersive experience was something I will never forget. Obviously Jessie Buckley and Eddie Redmayne were fantastic, but it will still be brilliant with the new leads, because the whole show and every member of staff were extraordinary. The dark seedy atmosphere was like actually being at the kit kat club.
The only negative was the food, which was a bit bazaar and certainly not a 'three course meal'. Don't arrive hungry as you will stay that way (I didn't care though as we were not there for the food). Please dress up for the occasion. It makes it you feel so much more involved.
a. z.
The most amazing night at the theatre; prepare to be entertained to the next level, from the second you enter. Pure fantasy! Spell binding performances
p. v.
Wonderful atmosphere created by entering via the stage door. Exotic dancers talented musicians & that's without the talents of Eddie Redmayne & frauline Sally Bowles. Don't go if easily offended as its a very powerful show with WWII connections. Excellent! Standing ovation a must see!!!!!!!
S. H.
A fabulous emersive show with a fabulous cast - This is world beating London theatre at its peak. The best creative talents and despite Covid we are back and the audiences want more like this...
R. C.
An amazing experience from the moment you enter the club... A welcoming schnapps brings you into the venue, sultry music and dancing cast lurk in the bar...
A real feel for the show...
Sensational cast
Brilliant music
An unforgettable evening
P. T.
Aaabsolutely fabulous experience. We loved the show. Also there was a lot of entertainment before the show. Unfortunately no pics allowed😊 very highly recommended!
V. T.
This was by far the best version of 'Cabaret' that I have ever seen. Totally authentic and exactly as I imagine Christopher Isherwood would have dreamt of for a stage production of 'Goodbye to Berlin'. Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley are electric. Amazing voices, compassionate actors - their bodies moving with passion to every beat of the music. They brought the audience to their feet on several occasions. Every Kit Kat dancer and singer gave it their all and danced and sang to perfection. This has to be one of the most original shows in London packed, with brilliant dancers, singers, actors.
s. p.
I loved this. Jessie Buckley is astounding, i will remember this for a long time. Eddie Redmayne brings a very strong individual take on Emcee. Overall beg a ticket 🎟
A. R.
Probably would have preferred a performance more closely resembling the movie. It was a unique experience sitting at a small table for 2 just feet from the (elevated) stage.
P. M.
Lovely theatre and you reallt felt as if you were actually there the way the tables were laid out like a nightclub. Wonderful experience!
M. V.
I saw Eddie Redmayne & cast in Cabaret. It was FANTASTIC! All the cast was extremely talented. The entire evening was wonderful. Before & during intermission the audience was entertained by musicians & dancers in costume from the era (early 1930s Berlin).
M. C.
Amazing, absolutely stunning how they have redesigned the playhouse to be the KitKat club. Me and my 11 year old went and it was such a treat for her as it was like being in a really nice club underage 🤪 I would recommend the experience highly.
M. M.
I came here to see "Fiddler on the Roof" and really enjoyed the show. It's a real classic with good storyline and music. I had excellent view directly onto the stage from the middle of the front row (Seat A16) of the dress circle. Some have complained about restricted view because of the safety barrier, but not a problem if you're 6ft or more. Several children on the seats next to me were given riser cushions by Theatre staff so they could see over the barrier. I would recommend front row as also barrier is not solid, so for long legged people you can put your feet through the gaps in the barrier.
J. S.
Went to see Cabaret. The whole experience - going down into the club with the stage surrounded by the audience on all sides was just wonderful and the actors are all brilliant
T. M.
Fantastic show. A unique experience from start to finish. The entire cast were superb. Highly recommended.
P. K.
Possibly the best show I have ever seen.
The cast are amazing, Eddie Redmayne is superb as the Emcee.
Loved it, loved it. Recommend this amazing immersive experience
K. C.
Amazing show, was so delighted to have got tickets for this. Eddie is outstanding as the Emcee and Jessie fabulous as Sally Bowles
A. R.
The theatre was unrecognisable laid out as the Kit Kat Club, with the "staging" starting as soon as you walk in and Cabaret was magnificent!
P. S.
A special experience the theatre is totally transformed for this immersive show. Would highly recommend the stalls, more space and table service.
R. C.
Truly amazing theatre, transformed into the Kit Kat Club for the absolutely mind-blowing, phenomenal musical Caberet.A must see.Truly brilliant
u. h.
A very special place! Amazing show and immersive set design. Thank you for taking such good care of us.
G. H.
Most enjoyable theatre night ever for me. Always loved the film and this is better still. It cost a lot but was worth it. A real treat.
M. T.
An utterly incredible experience. From the moment you walk in you are part of the magic. Let yourself be immersed in it and you'll get the most back. I can't recommend this more
M. W.
The Kit Kat Club is the setting of the stage musical Cabaret with Eddie Redmayne. It is on now at the Playhouse Theatre and is a stunning performance. The best that I have ever seen, especially the immersive experience of the audience being patrons of the Kit Kat Club. It was just magical.
B. D.
Everything is brilliant - Eddie Redmayne, Jessie Buckley and the whole cast and the musicians. Set shows so much imagination.
m. r.
Loved it! Fantastic production & cast, super staging, both Eddie and Jessie were sensational!

On my way walking from St James's park twards Trafalgar square, I was astonished to find this magnificent and old theatre by the name of Playhouse Theatre.
This beautiful theatre is located at the West End in the City of Westminster, on Northumberland Avenue.
I later found out that the playhouse theatre was originally opened on the 11th of March 1882 with a seating capacity of 1,200 and was rebuilt in 1907 and still retains its original substage machinery although Its current seating capacity went down to 786.
Whatever it is today, from the outside alone it already gives you an exceptional feeling about it. When I was passing by, the playhouse theatre was closed, but I wish that I was able to enjoy one of it's great shows and I can only imagine how beautiful this theatre looks at the inside.
The one show that was advertised that day all over the theatre building, named Fiddler On The Roof, really looked good, and since I have watched the original movie in the past, I feel sorry for my self that I missed out the chance to watch this spectacular show because I had already left England the day after.
The playhouse theatre in central London, is close to all major tourist attractions, not far from Buckingham Palace and just nearby Piccadilly circus. There are many shops, bars and restaurants around this area, so you can dine or drink and enjoy a good show too like only the Brits know how.
J. P.
I saw a lovely play here, the theatre is small, cosy quite intimate, staff are friendly polite and attentive. There is a bag search here which is not intrusive. Caroline the play is a musical, set in 1963/64 about a Black house maid in a White Jewish household. The cast are exceptionally talented with their singing.
T. L.
An intimate theatre, filled with nooks and crannies. Multiple bars and facilities fit into available space. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
The view of the stage is good wherever you sit due to the diminutive size of the place. With a good sound system and lighting rig it facilitated the play well.
R. W.
Lovely venue - and super friendly. You can order food/drinks to your seat with an app. They also have a “VIP” lounge/section. So you get a seat, drinks and snacks at the bar and intermission
A. B.
Amazing show and performance. And wonderful how they have transformed the theatre into the kit kat club. Absolutely loved it.
Z. B.
Went to see Cabaret. Fully transformed theatre for the run. Amazing atmosphere and show. No photos or videos allowed.
S. B.
A fantastic little theatre just off Embankment, however Upper Circle is very steep and there are lots of stairs up to the seats - so not great if you’ve got a mobility disability. You still get a good view and feel part of the performance!
Z. K.
This theater is lovely. It has a box office just next to it where you can collect your ticket half hour before the show. If you've bought less expensive seats, you might have to wait in a very small bar, so its good to arrive in time.
M. E.
Sat in a weirdly positioned box at the side of the stage with no elevation and restricted view to see Fiddler on the Roof. Yet in a way it was quite an exhilarating experience to be about 3 feet from the performers. felt as if we were actually in the production! Anyway, it was thoroughly enjoyable and we loved every bit of it. The entire auditorium was decked out like a stetl to engage the audience. Superb set and lighting as well as excellent performances.
T. B.
Best show I have seen in a long time. So much energy. Grotesque, yet beautiful. A glimpse of the sordid underbelly if humananity
R. C. (.
I watched Fiddler on the Roof at this theatre... I've watched many performances at the West End theatres but this was by far the most amazing! I could watch it every week without fail. Absolutely fantastic!
A. L.
From the outside this theatre looks enormous but it’s actually super compact and some of the audience sit in nooks and crannies around the stage. Absolutely fantastic, high octane and energetic show and well casted! Loved the absolute classic Fiddler on the Roof!
J. O.
My wife and I went here to watch The fiddler on the roof. We really enjoyed the performance. The location is good and the seats in the stalls give you a nice and close up view of the stage, though leg space is somewhat limited. Staff is friendly and guided us around with a smile.
L. P.
An amazing production of Caberet..fantastic acting and immaculate performance in what feels like an authentic atmosphere of pre war Berlin ...not to be missed
B. C.
Beautiful little theatre. Had probably my best experience watching a play here (enjoyed Fiddler while half-wasted on whisky and resisting a powerful urge to sing a long). Awesome performances and friendly staff. Dont be in a rush to grab a cab; there are plenty of pleasant night sights nearby as the theatre is located right on the River Thames and across from the London Eye.
P. S.
Impressive production but can't help feeling it's been massively overhyped. And just one gents toilet in the entire theatre? Come on.....
G. B.
This is not the largest theatre in London but it cosy and very comfortable and quite easy to find in Northumberland Avenue, near Trafalgar Square. The Theatre was built by F. H. Fowler and Hill with a seating capacity of 1,200. It was rebuilt in 1907 and still retains its original substage machinery. The staff working in the theatre were friendly and the wine from the bar was not as expensive as I'd thought it might be.
K. A.
What an amazing venue can see the circular stage at ever angle good seats no ones head getting in the way
A. M.
... I'd call it extravagant place.
Popular place! Not posh, though has claims to this status...
Chech what seats you trying to get.
I have had place on upper balcony, hardly could've see the act on the stage.
Though interesting experience.
When you taking your place is really worst then Ryanairs seats 🤭.
If you have chqnce to book seats on the bottom row at the balcony, go for it, that view should have nice effect....
Somtime along act seems like actors are observe the balconies viewers.
M. M.
I really like this lovely theatre. It is not too big so you feel really nice and not lost in the huge venue.
We went to see 1984 in 2016 and recently we went to see David Baddiel in an hilarious stand up comedy. We actually didn't know him and bought the tickets on Today Tix because there was a nice offer. We didn't regret as we laughed for more than 1h non stop!
J. H.
Absolutely stunning show, can't wait to see it again.
S. W.
Superb production and unique experience .Acting of the highest quality .Best show I have ever seen
H. G.
Amazing view from upper circle and immersive experience on route in. Toilets were the downside as in any night club!
M.
I went here for see “fiddler on the roof” and is been amazing, Nice theatre and absolutely amazing show, you can understand properly everything and is also really funny, really recommended for all age, theatre is one minute by wall from embankment station so really good position, it worth it till last penny 👍🏻👍🏻
J. M. C.
Watched Cyrano here. Enjoyed the experience but the play was a bit disappointed. Maybe I got too much high expectations. You can buy beers or champagne. Macarons, too. The place is not huge and the space between seat lines is quite compact.
I. F.
Saw Cabaret, what a fantastic show, and the theatre is completely transformed into the Kit Kat Club
K. S.
We fitted with the other teams aswell and I work for GFHOLDING.
All of us have dun a great job 👏👍🙌👌
I would recommend to watch the CABARET😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
A. D.
Amazing show, outstanding performance! Try to catch the current cast if you can!
B. G.
Delightful bright, lovely lively theatre. The staff were so friendly. Our leg room seats were roomy no restrictions. Thoroughly enjoyable performance.
I. E.
I can not say much of the theatre as we were sitting in the Upper Circle which has to be avoided at all cost. There is no leg room regardless of where you seat. The stage is in another dimention and you totally miss the
Magic of the play struggling to keep your blood circulation going looking at silhouettes far , far away. We were sitting at H19 & H20 ( the seats are not advertised as restricted view ) but only 1/2 of the stage was visible. Once the play started, the whole block in front of us started moving like a wave in a desperate attempt to find an angle where the action can be seen only to give up 15min later , sit back and only listen to the play ( like a radio ). Terrible, not worth your money and time , avoid at all cost unless you seat in the stalls or the middle circle.
I. J.
Great production, the orchestra were especially good
N. S.
Loved it! We had a great time visiting the Kit Kat Club!
E. M.
It's a cute little theatre and the show I saw (The Fiddler on the Roof) was able to make great use of the space for decor and staging. The bathrooms were clean and the queue wasn't very slow, which is often a problem in old theatres.
E. J.
Amazing cabaret! The pre drinks entertainment was amazing too! Thank you
D. N.
This is my second time watching the theatre at The Playhouse Theatre (the first time was watching Cyrano De Bergerac with James McAvoy), watching The Seagull.
Firstly to get the practical out of the way, I was happy to pay for the ticket price (not cheap) because I thought both performances were excellent.
My feel about the theatre is that it is a charming, understated theatre representing really classic stories and modernise them for the audience today.
In the 2 shows I watched, I was presented with really talented team of performers, and amongst them, really famous hollywood performers that was seemingly unattainable, so beyond normal people. But in theese shows, I was able to see them as ordinary human beings, dressing comfortably, displaying pure talent and merit amongst fellow performers. It was refreshing to see.
Before watching Cyrano de Bergerac and The Seagull, I was rather nervous that the stories was complicated and long as it was written originally, but the show was produced so well and the lines and the scenes were adapted so well for the modern times that I was encouraged to be more excited of future performances in The Playhouse. I felt that I was able to be a part of historical romances produced centuries ago. That means a lot!
Yours truly!
R. T.
Fantastic atmosphere and an amazing performance, especially Eddie.
L. A.
Anyone in London should pay a visit to the Playhouse theatre and see The Jungle. It's the best play I've ever seen.
Great venue, great customer service.
A. E.
Absolutely incredible evening, immersive is an understatement, loved every second of it!
M. V.
The "Fiddler on the roof" was great performance and very interesting theatre with a history around the Charring Cross Station.
D. J. M. L.
Lovely theatre on the small side that makes you feel in a more intimate space, near the stage and the action even if you are seated in the dressing circle and with partial views. Great location and gorgeous bar!
C. R.
Cabaret at the Kit Kat! Amazing show in a cool venue. Expensive but worth it
A. G.
Watched Glengarry Glen Ross here. The theatre itself is fairly small and dated. Wall decorations are dirty. The sink was blocked in the toilet. The upper circle is steep and makes it difficult to walk downstairs carrying drinks. We had a slightly restricted view, couldnt see the right corner of the stage, but it wasn't indicated when we bought the tickets. Nevertheless, staff is friendly and helpful, we enjoyed the play and had a good time.
R. P.
First visit here was to see Fiddler on the Roof (which was fantastic!). I don’t remember much about the facilities, but the stalls bar is in the lobby and that meant there wasn’t much space to wait around for the auditorium to open.
E.
Excellent production and cast. You are entertained from the moment you enter the club! Absolute must
S. H.
Amazing experience. Amazing show. No wonder it's fully booked.
M. B.
Amazing show! This was my second time. Worth a voucher!
F. A.
Good facilities. Fiddler On The Roof was amazing! Cried quite a bit at the end. Got a surprise selfie with Andy Nyman who played Tevye. Photos taken before and after the show ofcourse!
Bar could do with better tasting popcorn. The caramel and chocolate popcorn wasn't good.
S. G.
Great show, great cast, we had a great time.
D. W.
Classic west end theatre. The theatre was quick and efficient getting me in and out, which was their main job beyond providing a stage for the wonderful cast of Glenngary Glen Ross.
Seats were a touch cramped for my 6’1” frame, but pretty par for the course really.
A. T.
Amazing productions, but try to avoid the uppermost seats as there is no leg room whatsoever and you might be sitting sideways for the whole performance.
J. H.
Expensive but an absolutely wonderful version of Cabernet. The cast, especially, Eddie Redmayne, were excellent.
r. u.
Nice small scale traditional theater by the river, conveniently close to Embankment station.
H.
The theatre has been transformed it's very impressive!
P. O. (.
Watch a really goo play here- The Jungle based on the camp at Calais. Small and intimate buybacks leg room for tall people. Much like all the older theatres around the world.
S. H.
Words can't describe! Have never, and doubt in future will ever see anything better.
A. M.
Fabulous reimagining of the theatre into a club-like experience!!
T. S.
Good show. Friendly staff. And good preshow in the foyers
P. S.
Astonishing spectacle, fabulous performances and an amazing space.
J. 0.
Cabaret is an excellent show .. the theatre staff and performers are brilliant..
P. S.
Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!
Fremde, etranger, stranger.
An evening you won't forget, highly recommend Cabaret....
R. B.
Got the pleasure of seeing the wonderful musical Caroline or change here. The theatre is beautiful in an amazing location overseeing the London eye.
K. B.
Nice and cosy little teatre - we enjoyed “Fiddler on the roof” 👍
A. L.
Cyrano cast was unexpected and a breath of fresh air. If you liked Hamilton you'll probably enjoy this version.
B. H.
Amazing show, great venue and excellent staff
P. F.
Simply the best theatre experience of my life.
G. W.
Incredible performance and the Kit Kat club was amazing
M. D.
Superb performance, stage presence, utterly engaging. Excellent show. Loved every minute of "Fiddler on the Roof" 💖 Could only get tickets in the Gods when we decided what to book, but a recommendation to consider for the theatre would be to please put some form of padding on the timber edge of the back of the seats, the spacing between 1 row & the row below is so tight, it would slice even the shortest person's knee-caps off, Most uncomfortable. 😖🥺🥴
U. C.
Seen Caroline or Change and was thrilled by the professional cast and everything just fitting to its place! Last minute tickets were surprisingly cheep so check them out if you are in town shortly.
S. R.
Incredible atmosphere. The set for Fiddler.on the Roof was amazing. Fabulous version of the play. I unashamedly love musicals and this is the best I have seen in over 30 years. Great cast. Sadly we arrived 10 minutes late due to suspension of the central line but the usher could not have been more helpful and gracious. We were in our seats within a few minutes without the embarrassment of causing disruption. Great night all round.
T. C.
Watched Cyrano De Bergerac here. Impressive venue but while I'm no theatre critic it was very entertaining
N. B.
What a show get a ticket if you can . Eddie Redmane is brilliant
D. W.
Slips seats have a limited view unless you lean forward for entire performance, very uncomfortable.
L. C.
Second visit to this lovely theatre. London is full of wonderful theatres, and this is one of them.
If someone has mobility issues, the stalls are your best bet.
My friend and I were in the upper balcony to see Fiddler on the Roof.
The steps to our front row seats were incredibly steep.
The view was wonderful - as was the production.
C. O.
Although it's an old building with lots of stairs! the auditorium is an unusual shape and for somebody like me with long legs has plenty of leg room. I saw Fiddler on the Roof, fantastic production where the boxes were incorporated into the set and at one point briefly became part of the production. If you got a chance go to a performance at this theatre you will not be disappointed.
J. C.
Great night out seeing Fiddler on the Roof. The theatre staff were very accommodating and nice (if a little glum/grumpy looking). Obviously the bar is obscenely expensive... Don't bother, we didn't!
Seats were comfy, actors were incredible and the set and lighting were excellent. All round a real lovely evening!
D. W.
Great venue right next to embankment station and close to many restaurants.
The theater itself is cozy, with excellent sightlines and sound.
C. W.
I feel like my review is somewhat conflicted. I wasn't massively impressed with the performance I went to see, which was mostly due to a poor understudy in the lead role. This has somewhat tainted my opinion. First the good. I sat in the Royal Circle, and had an excellent view (to be expected as tickets were not cheap). I was on the side but no obstruction to view. There are seats that are obstructed, these were indicated when booking. The seat was comfortable. It was steep so not ideal for those who are a little unsteady on their feet. In regards to the less than good. The drinks were incredibly expensive, even by London and theatre standards. And my glass of wine was not nice - took the whole first half to drink it, but at that price I wasn't going to pass. Long queue for the ladies which wasn't helped by the fact it was snug so it was more of a one in one out. Location of theatre is convenient. I would go again (depending on the show l), but I wouldn't pay as much for seats.
M. H.
Great little theatre very near the embankment and walk from Trafalgar Square. Excellent production of fiddler in the roof and first class stage and scenery. Seats were comfortable (as theatre seats go) and not too pokey with leg room. Nice little bar for the stalls , though as with most old theatres, could use more toilets for the interval.
W. M.
Went to see a really nice performance of 'Fiddler on the Roof'. Great customer service and well priced bar. Seats along the upper row don't have much leg room if you are over 5'8". Would recommend
S.
Great venue, wonderful show. Very professional and helpful staff. What more can you ask for.
m. k.
Decent theatre to see a play in London. The seats are VERY small with virtually no legroom or arm room. It was very crowded and I would definitely recommend purchasing the Playhouse Ultimate experience package. This gives you access to the lounge, champagne, macaroons and a program. You also have a private bathroom and a coat check. We saw Cyrano de Bergerac and the play was excellent.
A. M.
Good old theatre. I've always sat in restricted-view seats, and even standing, and always had a blast. Most recently I saw Cyrano De Bergerac, and Fiddler on the Roof, both cracking.
I avoid the bar though, other than to get a free cup of tapwater from the friendly and professional bar staff; the only time I bought something at the bar it was a small glass of house red wine for £10:90! It wasn't even a nice wine.
L. T.
We went to see Cyrano de Bergerac with James Mcavoy by the Jamie Lloyd company at this theatre. I booked the champagne experience with the tickets and was blown away with my time here! We were treated like VIP's all night from the moment we stepped in to the door. With personal service, seating area where you can leave your belongings, table service and the friendliest staff I really felt special!!!
The seats we had in the theatre were the best I've ever had in London, we had a amazing view of the stage, large comfy seats and the theatre is just beautiful. We were in seats E13/E14 for reference.
Then lastly the play was outstanding with superb acting, script and beat! I loved every minute and would recommend it to everyone.
B. P.
Lovely experience on a January afternoon. Would not have missed it.
A. C.
Memorable event - Cabaret! Eddie Redmayne phenomenol!
S. L.
James McAvoy brought the star power to this version of Cyrano de Bergerac and he was brilliant, with his physicality, timing and voice talent. The rest of the cast was also superb with top direction. The sparse sets got the audience to focus on the content and emotion of the play with the occasional spot of humour. A great play. Very appreciative of the theater and staff: holders of standing tickets encouraged to fill any vacant seats in the main seating area. A wonderful night out.
陈.
Fiddler on the roof, excellent opera, delicate stage and amazing actors and actress! It was really surprised that this opera is so attractive, the music was also excellent! Well, the theatre is relaxing place as well. Very cool inside while it was so hot outside.
M. B.
Friendly staff. Booked a seat online which was next to the aisle for a good view and leg room When I got there the seat had limited legroom as the aisle was part of the stage (road). No room for my right leg / foot for the long play. Fortunately the staff were helpful and the booking office found me a seat a few rows further back. Great show and friendly staff. If the show was fully booked I would have needed a refund. They should not have sold the seat F20 or placed s warning online. It almost looked ok until the seat cushion was lowered.
S. K.
Great theatre. It's small so you'll get a great view of the stage if sitting at least 6 rows back from the stage in the stalls or anywhere in the dress circle. The stage is pretty high so sitting in the first 6 rows of the stalls isn't great and you end up with neck ache!
K. H.
It is one if the old theatres and the atmosphere is wonderful. We were in the Upper Circle and had a fantastic view of the stage. Apart from having to climb all the stairs we had a fabulous night at Fiddler on the Roof.
H. M.
I came to see Glengarry Glen Ross on Saturday daytime. It was well-organised, clean but a bit tiny place. Will visit again. Wish to see some classics.
C. D. R.
Such an amazing experience with Fiddler On the Roof! They serve alcohol that you can bring to your seats or socialize and drink beforehand at the little bar. It was an excellent and dynamic performance. I was worried a bit about getting our tickets since I bought them online, but they made it so easy picking it up at the location, I worried for nothing.
D. M.
The best Thursday afternoon I have ever spent indoors for a long time. However I would not recommend sitting in row K if you wanted a full panoramic view of the stage. The cast where excellent each and everyone especially the dancers.
.
B. W.
Outstanding production. Amazing venue!
C. H.
There to see Heathers. The theatre room was great. Comfortable seats, not squashed. A sizable room.
There was a bar open before and during the intermission, as well as ice cream on sale.
Overall a very good experience. Would happily see another show there.
J. C.
A really nice small theatre. I was sitting in the back row of the stalls but still had a great view of the stage. Has a couple small bars. Friendly and helpful staff. Not to mention the great performances in Caroline, Or Change. I had a great evening.
I. O.
My first experience at a theatre, but it was amazing! Saw Caroline (about a middle-aged black housemaid in 70's America). The actors are adept, and the lighting is wonderful. The emotions are effectively transmitted from the stage to you.
I couldn't keep my eyes off the stage, and it was extremely engaging. Would even consider seeing it again. Maybe the second time to critique it.
J. W.
I went to this theatre for the first time to see Caroline or Change. There were some very good things and some not so good. I really liked the small size of the theatre and the staff were quite friendly. The process to pick up tickets was really fast. However, the pricing of drinks was really misleading. There was one price on cardboard tickets on the seats (£6 for a glass of wine), then on an app advertised it was (£6.50 for a glass of wine). Then when we went up to the bar the cheapest glass was £7.30... I think this app and the bar were separate but it left us wishing we had used the app (we had assumed the prices were going to be the same). Also the theatre was so so so hot. It fitted in because in the play the main character spent most of her time in a boiling hot basement, so maybe the heating was cranked up intentionally 😂
a. w.
Show 5 star. Gender neutral toilets rubbish.
A. E.
Saw Fiddler On The Roof from Upper Circle. Decent view from the Standing Only area. Some seated audience members in the Upper Circle at the back decided to stand to get a better view. The heat collecting at the top of the theatre made in rather warm.
M. B.
A small theatre but full of character - Fiddler on the Roof was a superb performance.
J. H.
Very nice place. The staff is so helpful and smiling. Harry (i think that's his name)told me things about the ghosts there are in this theatre....
just one thing. Avoid the coffee if you like coffee.
Thank you for being so enthusiastic. ...
the play was good.
Mr Shepherd is amazing.
Thank you.
R. O.
Went to see 'Fiddler on the Roof' here. Great use of the stall area to include an extra players entrance and exit.
The front of house staff were polite, friendly and helpful. A lovely theatre, a wonderful evening and a great production.
H. Q.
A small theatre. Everything was tall and narrow in the z-dimension. What I meant is that the stairs were not deep enough for me to place my entire feet on. The chairs were tall - my feet couldn’t touch the ground. The toilets corridors were narrow. The structure of the stairs was a bit confusing - I climbed many steps to get to the toilet. But the show was great and the staff was friendly. The lining up for stage door was well organized. Someone came to told us beforehand about what we could do and what couldn’t and we should setup our cellphone in advance to accelerate the process.
D. D.
Great Little theatre. Seating was comfortable, staff were great, show was brilliant. Bar on the lower ground floor was nice. I'm looking forward to returning. If you like this review, can you please click the like symbol below. Thank you!
M. M.
Fiddler on the Roof, such a wonderful performance... If you're in London, get tickets and go!
J. L.
Caroline or change great half price seats bought 3 hours before performance. Dress circle centre. Nice small intimate theatre. Not our first choice of shows but hugely enjoyable. Sometimes worth taking a risk. One big issue though, no gents toilets on this level. Need to go up 50+ steps to upper circle what a climb.
K. H.
Wonderful performance and thoroughly enjoyable experience!
G. S.
The theatre is old and compact, if you are tall you will struggle with your legs but the show was good. It was a last minute booking so could not really pick seats therefore do not know what the rest were like.
H. K.
A great theatre. What they put on here is top quality. I've day seated here before and the view from the front row is excellent without straining your neck. I've also sat at the back of the dress circle. It's quite far up and can feel a bit distant from the action but the sight lines are good.
A. B.
It is quite a cosy theatre. I would avoid the cheaper seats if you want to sit comfortably. We were on the upper circle and we ended up standing at the back as there is no leg room. I am not particularly tall however even I struggled with the lack of room! It was also extremely hot due to the lack of space.
H. B.
Lovely little theatre, a lot of stairs and no lift if you go to the upper circle. We saw Caroline, well performed, but the microphones need to be turned down, the singers have very powerful voices, so too loud.
S. L.
The End of Longing: As a Friends fan, I came to check out the play which was alright, not the greatest of theatre pieces. However, the seats in the Upper Circle were very uncomfortable. In any other theatre, seats in first row of upper circle would be great, but here, the balcony was in the way of the viewing if you sat back in your seat. The seats are also more narrow than any other theatre I have been to.
S. A.
Lovely old theatre, staff very friendly and helpful.
Stairs in the Upper circle/gallery are very steep, each row of seats are very close so not very much knee/leg room but great shows.
J. S.
Went to see a production of fiddler on the roof. Sat in the upper circle, which had a slightly restricted view of what was happening at the front of the stage. Legroom was rather cramped. Apart from this I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent show. Staff were friendly and helpful.
K.
Amazing venue. A small intimate Theatre that makes you feel that the show is just for you. We saw Fiddler on the roof - totally amazing. The bars are small and intimate too. A great venue.
A. L.
Great fun seeing Caroline or Change. Cast were fantastic. The heat in the actual theatre was a little warm so make sure you dress appropriately. Heard lots of people complaining about the temperature inside even though it was December!
A. S.
View from dress circle seat was goid. Smallish theatre, not a lot of leg room with metal sided seats so no give for anyone a bit bigger. Lots of stairs to upper circle. Drink prices were expensive. Staff helpful and friendly. Location easy to get to as right next to embankment tube and charing cross station.
D. B.
Lovely theatre, great play but the seating in the upper circle is really tight. There is hardly any leg room and I'm 5'8 so not sure how anyone taller would cope. Your legs are literally pushing on the seating in front so as much as you are enjoying the play you are constantly aware of the slight pain in your legs. I booked seats in row D 15 to 17 and the view was 6/10, heads were unfortunately in the way and the front of the stage is cut off. It felt like I overpaid for the tickets even at a reduced price. I would go back but try to sit somewhere else. Staff seemed lovely very helpful.
D. H. J.
Truly immersive experience and the performances were amazing.
G. K.
I saw Rocky Horror here with Richard O Brien and what an amazing show and venue. It was like a party atmosphere and the downstairs bar was open with places to sit and had a good selection of drinks. It took a little bit of time to get served during interval but that will teach me for not ordering in advance.
Great view from the stalls and seats were really roomy. Event the nice people next to me were chatty and loads of fun despite coming in a bit late. Great venue breads great audiences and is a great night out.
f. s.
Great show but the location of bar to entrance causes lots of congestion and confusion also during breaks. This was annoying as had to hustle through crowds of people who were queuing or standing around drinking as very limited seating with no proper lounge but a BA lounge downstairs only for select few - even though paid nearly £100 for seats I could not use that lounge!!
T. A.
Extraordinary theatre with stunning decor. Beyond the 'pretty building', the productions I've seen here have been superb, with innovative use made of the space, including breaking down of traditional audience and performer spaces. It's a great location that attracts very high quality international actors.
L. G.
Superb theatre. Very over priced drinks (£10 for a gin and tonic). Friendly staff and stunning building
J. G.
Wonderful old theatre, great show. Playhouse is so easy to get to, few minutes from Charing cross and seconds from embankment tube. Staff very helpful, lovely atmosphere. Went to see 'fiddler on the roof' and it was brilliant.
K. J.
Very nice theatre. Caroline, Or Change was amazing! There's not much they can do about it, but there's almost no leg room up in the balcony seats. The theatre is super old, and people weren't really as big as we are now.
J. A.
I went to see Caroline or Change. Was a good production. The upper circle is very steep with not much legroom. I would recommend that you don't have many bags or coats with you. Process of getting into the theatre isn't as relaxed as other London theatres. If they have cloakrooms, I can't see how we'd even have the opportunity to find out other than if we'd asked at the box office which is actually outside. I wouldn't go as far as saying we were herded. But not far off. The same play had been at the Hampstead Theatre. And that is so much nicer.
N. C.
Nice but small theatre, close to amenities such as the station and a few resturants nearby.
Be prepared to climb mount Kilimanjaro if you are in the upper circle (the amount of steps will leave you breathless) and do not book seats in the upper circle if you have a fear of heights as it is extremely steep tiered seating.
Really friendly staff and reasonably priced. If you and whoever you attend with are drinking wine go for the bottle as it works out more economical then purchasing a glass each, just a little tip! :)
Enjoy
A. B.
Very nice theatre, easy to get to by public transport. Very good team managing it. The play was Cyrano de Bergerac, very modern production to bring this 17th century story to today's audience and grasp their attention on every word said.
D. M.
A small but wonderfully restored old theatre brimming with atmosphere. The staff are exceptionally helpful and enthusiastic. There are bars on the ground and lower floors and the provision of refreshments during the interval was quick and efficient (yes, you can pre-order)
M. S.
Went to see Fiddler on the Roof here. The show was good, but it was a relatively tight squeeze (up in the circle) for people with longer legs. Quite a restricted view as well (this was advertised and expected) but couldn't see the front of the stage.
D. S.
It was an amazing production, how could it not be as the music is incredible and the story spellbinding. It is such a beautiful theatre and we had fantastic seats. The staff were so helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was electric.
S. L.
The play "The Jungle" was fantastic. The price of a glass of wine and a small bottle of beer however was extortionate.
G. M.
Didn't like that much Cyrano but it was good, the theater is beautiful.
S. L.
First time to this theatre. We had a good view from
Our seats to the stage. Very clean facilities. Men’s toilets are a bit of a walk. Seating a bit cramp, but overall not bad at all.
S. H.
Saw Fiddler on Roof last night from an unusual vantage point. We had seats in a box at the side of the stage. The view is probably the same as for an actor in the wings waiting to go on. The show was very good. The actors, at times, stood very close to us in our dugout. One was Ellie Mullane, who, while clutching a baby in her arms, sang one of the final numbers along with the cast. Her voice is crystal clear and so beautiful that all in our party were moved to remark upon it.
H. J.
Outstanding performances! Simply monumental!
C. M.
Fantastic Auditorium, great staff, 'Fiddler on the Roof' amazing! Not enough toilet facilities even for an old, small theatre. But still a wonderful theatre to see anything at! :- )
C. L.
I went to see Fiddler On The Roof lastnight (24-07-2019) at the Playhouse. It was amazing and well deserving of a standing ovation. I would highly recommend this play to everyone. The cast were brilliant.
A. M.
Went to see Cyrano de Bergerac with James McAvoy...the whole was BRILLIANT, the clever script, the energetic support actors, but special tribute to James McAvoy for a stunning performance in the lead role, as also Anita-Joy Uwajeh who played Roxane. Cant recommend the play highly enough. There was a long queue to collect paper tickets after ordering on line but we were assured by the friendly staff, they would hold the performance until we had taken our seats!!! True! (Though I think they need a revised/paperless ticket checking system somehow for environment and slickness...bar code or something) And the plumbing needs attention: cant have a full house AND coffee: the water pressure is low during the interval?!?
All in all, a very stimulating first visit...highly recommended!!
R. D.
Incredible plays! Especially fiddler on the roof and Caroline or change! Beautiful service and amazing views from row A on stalls. Will DEFINly visit and will hopely get to see another play there. I especially liked fiddler on the roof because they had fantastic sceanery and beautiful songs and also really good acrobatic actions! 😀miss this show
D. R.
Saw Cyrano and was a great play. Venue is your typical west end theatre ... nice and cozy. And what I love about London... take your wine and beer inside !! Your bottle is waiting during break... nobody will ever consider taking it...
S. A.
Visited last night to watch Cyrano de Bergerac starring James McAvoy with a family friend. Amazing play! The theatre looked very elegant, nicely designed 😊 it is is conveniently located next to the Embankment station. I was a bit disappointed they didn't serve any hot beverages, but overall it was perfect!
A. C.
Play Cyrano de Bergerac was great. Seating a little cramped. Bar was good and drinks were welcomed in the auditorium. However, as there was little space to put your drink or belongings, it was a slightly uncomfortable to enjoy the drinks during the play.
L. G.
Nice cosy theatre. Good size stage. Bar can get busy at intervals. Good customer service. It is located right near the Embankment & horse guards parade. Easy public transport or if you're lucky you will find a parking space in the nearby streets. Parking is free after 18.30 hrs but NOT in residence parking bays
J. I.
I saw a production of 1984 at the Playhouse Theatre and loved it. One of the best plays I've ever seen, and in part, because the audio/video elements of the theatre were amazing. You can sometimes go to the Box Office at 10:00 a.m. on the day of a show to get 10 pound tickets - front row even!
S. H.
We watched fiddler on the roof and it was spectacular. Andy Nyman is an amazing actor. For me he made the show all that more amazing. It took me back to my childhood yet it was much more fun filled and enjoyable watching it live.
P. N.
Brilliant performance ...the best in London
K. T.
This is a excellent theater comfortable seating with great views of the stage .the staff are very friendly and helpful. I went to see fiddler on the roof. Fabulous dont miss it highly recommended.
C. B.
Very much in the style of the West End theatres, highly ornate internal roof space. In the highest tier of seats view is fine but seating is cramped. Small bar and toilet facilities. Lots of stairs.
D. P.
Fantastic show, lovely Victorian building with beautiful decor unfortunately the seating is very cramped. In the upper circle the first few rows have restricted viewing in row b we could only see half the stage.
A. T.
Fabulous evening at the Kit Kat Club
R. A.
Nice traditional West End theatre. Good size, not enormous but not tiny. Main issues are the ridiculous location of the bar in the foyer which blocks all access to the auditorium when queues are long, and possibly the most expensive drinks in London. Find the underground stalls bar for a quieter drinking environment
D. P.
Nice theater but be aware of the bar deals. We ordered 4 large glasses of wine at a cost of £35. However they had an offer of 2 large glasses for £17 and take the rest of the bottle for free. The barman did not bothered to mention it.
E. B.
I went there today to watch Cyrano de Bergerac. James McAvoy killed it! Love how intense he is in whatever he does. The Playhouse is a very beautiful building with a very stunning view. The inside? A bit unprepared, considering. The space to move around isn't much. But, this is London. Overall, was ok. Some of the staff were brilliant. Very helpful and very polite. But there were also the ones who would not look you at you. Very disorganised half act break. Caos, actually! That's why I'm giving 3 stars.
p. t.
Just seen 1984 and it's as powerful as the book.
The theatre is small which I think adds to the atmosphere of the play and my god what a play. The adaptation from Orwell's book is well done and both my wife and myself were left talking about it all the way home on the tube. Seeing the play has made we want to re-read the book
B. J.
Came here to see Caroline or Change and the staff are super friendly and I had a great chat with a member of staff at the bar before the show started, didn't catch her name but she was definitely part of the reason for my review. Can't fault the location at all, well priced tickets, easy to get to from the station and just a short walk from the London Eye, can't wait to come back.
D. O.
Fiddler on the Roof was absolutely amazing one of my top shows of the year
J. K.
Restricted view spots are usually good value for money in most theatres, but 1984 puts a lot of emphasis on the usage of screen which is almost invisible from the upper circle - a small fact that is conveniently not highlighted when buying tickets.
Apart from that, the place looks lovely and the play is amazing.
s. j.
Quite possibly the most friendly theatre ever!
Came here to see spamalot. I was immediately struck by how small the venue is -- and that's a great thing! Even sitting toward the back, you're still not very far away from the stage. I'd say it'd be pretty hard to get a bad seat. I love cozy, intimate venues and this is definitely one of them. There is a bar at the ground floor and one down below, and they move people through quite nicely. You can preorder drinks for the intermission (recommended!) or take your chances ordering during intermission. I was also surprised to see the bar open after the show (hey, why not?) when most theatres are trying to shove you out the door.
Love this place!
N. C.
Intimate theatre, good seats in the stalls, though think it might be a bit steep the further up you go. Drinks are good value for a theatre and there's a separate bar and toilets in the basement that they try to charge extra for, but really not necessary
C. S.
Lovely building and wonderful performance of Fiddler on the roof. Set and direction really makes audience feel involved in scene. Only criticism is that drinks are very expensive
O. S.
The Playhouse is one of London's oldest and best theatres. Friendly informed staff, interesting choice of shows but the theatre itself is a shout back to the halcyon days of the West End. It has stood the test of time and continues to thrill audiences still today. Also Queen filmed a music video there...
P. S.
The Playhouse Theatre was great. We'd love to go back for another production in the future.
Particularly, we would like to thank Molly (or Polly?) who helped us. We had booked seats and didn't realise that they would be high chairs. My wife is pregnant and we weren't sure if they would be ideal for such a length of time. Molly (or Polly or whoever) told us that there were a few options we could try, and had spoken to the team on the radio to sort a few things out preemptively.
Molly (whoever) is a credit to the Playhouse.
H. J.
Saw Fiddler on the Roof. Fantastic production. Enjoyed every aspect of it. Theatre is intimate so you can sit anywhere & see the stage well.
V. B.
The theatre is nice, but the seat are terribly small. I am only 5.2 and my kneews were squashed against the bavk of the row infront. Also if you suffer of vertigo avoid the upper circle, the steps and seat rows are really steep. This causes also to not be able to see the whole depth of the stage from the upper circle.
L. N.
Went to see two shows so far: "Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown" and "An inspector calls". Totally different in genre, both had amazing stage design. Loved the ice-cream ordering system too: You can order ice-cream without leaving your seat and it will be delivered directly to you. Saves so much of the hussle in the interval!
N. A.
The theatre is a nice building probably quite old as most of these places are hence the very narrow crumpd seats which made it for an uncomfortable 3 hours but it's to be expected and generally it was a pleasant experience, loved fiddler on the roof , brilliant 😍
S.
Came here to watch the kite runner. Enjoyed the production and the staff at the theatre are all very friendly.
BUT be wear if they say restricted seating they mean it. We sat at the upper circle and I couldn't feel my feet once we had made it half way. Also I brought a packet of chocolate buttons for £3.50! so I suggest you buy your treats elsewhere beforehand.
A. &. S. D.
Great intimate venue. All the seats are good. Very convenient for Charing Cross Station. Best to drink before or after as (like all theatres) a bit pricey once you're a captive audience.
M. A.
Fabulous night out especially with the champagne 🍾
J. W.
First time at this theatre and i thought it was great! Just great! No airs or graces, pretty basic, but that was the appeal of the place. Nice and relaxed! Recommend.
j. c.
Great theatre to see a wonderful version of Fiddler on the Roof.
Sat quite high up and was very warm but didn't detract from setting and performance.
R. T.
Lovely small cosy theatre. You are close to the action, unlike some of the larger venues in London. Saw Fiddler on the Roof and it was an amazing production.
S. M.
We went for the 'Fiddler on the roof'. Great stage setting, great musical. One can have the full experience also for the cheapest tickets, in the last rows.
A. G.
Lighting is poor, you can't properly see the actors faces to catch the emotions, and my eyes were hurting because of super white lights. The rest is cool, the staff is very warming. Thank you.
S. N.
Fabulous production of Fiddler on the Roof. Cast were fantastic and the scenery very cleverly thought out. The very small orchestra were also superb.
J. T.
Great productions are usually on here, but you have to know which seats to book.
The nosebleed section is just so, steep and a lot of seats have partially obstructed views, so you may find your neighbours bobbing about a lot.
M. M.
Fabulous show. Fiddler on the roof. Felt like we were on the roof in the upper circle. Stood at the back for whole performance, which was above expectations! Loved the whole experience!
D. S.
One of my favourite theatres in London. A bit more leg room than usual (rather welcome if you're over 6'), a bit of character (Grade II listed), and good location (handy for the tube!).
S. L.
Brilliant. Caroline or Change is a must see musical. Sharon D. Clarke and company didn't hit a single wrong note. The theatre itself is very pretty and feels quite intimate.
A. C.
Cosy pretty theatre but very cramped seating and little leg room. Lots of stairs so not good for people with mobility problems if you book upper levels.
N. L. F.
Good productions here but the staging means that if you are not in the first row of the circle you can't see much of down stage. Disappointing that there is not much care given to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience when there are people behaving badly as guests and no action taken...
r. d.
On one hand..... Fiddler on the Roof was an amazing production... on the other hand the seats in the upper circle had very limited space... but... on the other hand... they only cost £20 ... how can you lose out.
M. F.
Saw The Best Man; excellent production. Very comfy seating after the very pleasent surprise and great view after having been upgraded from Upper Circle to Stalls (there were a studying number of seats spare for a Friday night it has to be said)
B. H.
Fiddler on the Roof is not my favourite musical, however this was a superb and very enjoyable production. Andy Nyman is relatively understated as Teve and plays him as a Dad you'd want rather than a showman. So different from his usual oeuvre (I love Ghost Stories, Derren Brown, Dead Set and his usual dark materials).
M. P.
charming theatre, very close to the underground station. fantastic show fiddler on the roof.
my only criticism was that the seats are very close and you don't get too much legroom.
J. P.
Saw The Best Man - excellent cast & theatre was great, quite intimate! Paid extra for welcome drinks & snacks in private bar - well worth paying for, we were very well looked after.
K. N.
Great venue. Feels quite intimate, but it's not exactly small. We saw Glengarry glen Ross with Christian Slater which was great as well. So all around a great experience here.
R. C.
Had a great time, 'An Inspector Calls' was very captivating. The staff were friendly too and so accommodating - we managed to buy tickets only 1.5 hours before the show from the box office.
C. M.
Beautiful theatre. Compact and bijoux! Very steep up in the 'gods' with some restricted viewing at the front.
K. C.
Saw "the jungle" it was a fantastic play, the set up was incredible, the venue was done so well it felt like you were really apart of the show. I would definitely recommend.
C. T.
Intimate venue. We went to see Spamalot and it was great to find the venue a lot smaller than expected. Nice to be able to nip down and away from the loudness of Picadilly Circus whilst remaining central. Box office staff were also lovely when I booked the ticket. All round a great traditional playhouse and fantastic experience.
J. B.
Friendly staff, nice theatre.
A. B.
I saw Cyrano de Bergerac last night and I was really impressed by James McAvoy 's skilled interpretation. I liked that he wasn't forced to wear a fake nose and he kept his Scottish accent 😁This role was quite a challenge but he exceeded the expectations :"he was perfect!" 🤗All my best wishes and love to you, dear James! 💖
S. S.
Such a great experience. Good food.
M. S.
Beautiful theatre and an amazing production of Fiddler on the Roof. Was upgraded to VIP tickets, had a wonderful experience. Highly recommend this theatre and production.
F. V.
Nice london theatre conveniently located steps away from Embankment tube station. Staff are nice and friendly, the view of the stage is good even from the seats at the back. Downside is drinks and nibbles on the expensive side.
S. K.
Lovely theatre, the play was superb THANK YOU my beautiful daughter for taking me to see the okay. Wonderful cast, we met them all backstage! 😁
R. D.
Great play. James Macavoy in a modernised Cyrano de Bergerac but we tried the ultimate package and it was great. Half bottle champagne, maccarons, table to sit in a private bar, table service. Worth the money!
B. G.
Was a fantastic night out xx
D. R.
This is a beautiful theatre but unfortunately the seats in the upper circle are very uncomfortable and almost zero leg room. Not sure what the rest of the seats are like elsewhere in the theatre.
The staff are helpful and friendly.
A.
Had a great night here watching a production of 1984 (absolutely cracking; definitely go and see it!).
The staff were really friendly- in the performance a woman sitting in front of us seemed to have fallen ill and immediately a steward came over to offer her help.
J. C.
A lovely theatre, intimate and charming; sound carries week from the stage and you feel drawn into the atmosphere being created on stage. Staff were lovely and the entire place was spotless.
L. C.
Ok theater. First one I have been in London. If you buy sits up, you have to go up like 4 floors, so you get there super exhausted lol. They had a power cut in the play I went which I think doesn’t happen too often but still there was a like 15 min delay so I had to leave. Sits are quite narrow, I’m super short and could not imagine a tall person in the sit I had
H. G. (.
The acting in Cyrano was excellent. However the theatre was freezing cold and got colder as the evening went on. So a rather Luke warm experience overall.
J. D.
A lovely, intimate venue with good sightlines to the stage. The hospitality packages aren't massively worth it given the amount of options in the area for a drink and a snack, but it's rather charming and pulls in good productions.
P. P.
Nice old style theatre. Seats can be uncomfortable if the play is not great. We saw An Inspector Calls, which was good. Drinks etc expensive but expected.
R. C.
Conveniently located old theatre, very close to Embankment Station and Trafalgar Square which nearly always has interesting plays. Not the most spacious theatre though, either on its auditorium or its other facilities.
P. T.
Fiddler on the Roof was an amazing production and it was a joy to see Maria Friedman perform along with the rest of the cast. The Auditorium could of done with some Air Conditioning though
T. H.
Wonderful theatre. The staff are great! For only a few pounds extra you can go into the VIP area. Great history in the interior decor.
T. M.
Only one gents toilet, difficult to get to. Bar was expensive. Front of Royal Circle had a high banister obscuring stage. Production however was great.
A. F.
Conveniently located near Embankment tube stop. Box office was quick and efficient. Bar prices are high, even for a theatre: £6+ for a bottle of beer. The seats in the upper section left me shifting about and numb about an hour in.
M. S.
Good show, but upper circle has a rail at the front which blocks some of the view of the stage. Not too much of an impact given the better value of the seats
R. H.
Summary based on one evening play:
-picked up a same day ticket at Tkts for An Inspector Calls
-good sight lines, acoustics, and temperature control
-seating was tighter than some in terms of leg room
-not exactly in the heart of the theatre district
J. G.
The theatre itself is lovely as our most in London but the drinks are extremely pricey and not very good as with most London theatres. Sadly we walked out at the interval as the play was bland so did taint out view
C. I.
Great performance (The Best Man, by Gore Vidal.) Seating horribly cramped, though. Management take note. ....it would be worth sacrificing a coupla rowsa seats to improve audience comfort - and satisfaction. Many people remarked upon this.
B. E.
Conveniently located on the corner of Northumberland avenue. 2 minutes walk from embankment station and 5 minutes from Charing Cross mainline. This beautiful Franco venetian styled theatre is impressive from start to finish. A very grand foyer and sweeping curved staircases lead to a stunning auditorium. Split over 3 levels both circles are cantilevered so no stanchion poles to spoil your view. Staff are warm and welcoming. They boast and ordertorium service that you can order your drinks straight to your seats. All in all it was a great experience in this much loved and well looked after theatre.
S. “. H.
Very nice theatre, service was great - the girls were very kind and cheerful and the order came at the beginning of the break! The performance (Fiddler on the Roof) was outstanding!
H. A.
Saw Glengarry Glen Ross here and loved it. Its not a huge theatre so it has a close charm. The bars and loos are a maze through the old corridors and that's lovely too.
D. R.
There was a major problem with the lack of legroom of the seats in the Upper circle. The production, including the acting, sound coverage the violinist and the entire orchestra was excellent.
L. S.
Saw Fiddler at the Playhouse Theatre last night. Fantastic show and gorgeous Theatre. Sat in the stalls and felt part of the show. Great aftetnoon.
A. C.
Great play that resonates with some of the major issues of the day. An Inspector Calls. Was supposed to have read it at school but probably only got through a few paragraphs.
My son read it and wanted to see the play so we made a night of it.
Enjoyable and thought provoking. Effective use of stage space and effects.
Had to keep getting up from the cramped upper circle seats to let others out for snacks and loos.
M. Z.
Wonderful cozy theatre, went to see Fiddler on the Roof. Sitting all the way up can have some limited viewing of the full stage at times.
I. C.
Went to see Fiddler on the Roof with my wife. The show was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a very nice theatre.
K. E.
Enjoyed Fiddler on the Roof last night! Seats in Upper Circle incredibly hot
Don't wear a coat
Theatre easy to reach on foot from Charing cross or Trafalgar square

Great atmospheric theatre
P. M.
We sat in the upper circle WOW what a climb. Good to see the detail of the ceilings. Two paper cups of tea and a bag of sweets £9.60. The play Best Man by Gore Vidal was superb.
K. F.
Saw Everybody Is Talking About Jamie.
Amazing performance full of emotion and passion. The entire cast and crew should all be incredibly proud of their work.
O. B.
Lovely small theatre, there not a bad seat in there. The staff are super helpful all ways with a smile on their faces.
E. B.
Lovely place, seats could always be more spacious in theatres and cinemas but lovely staff and great shows. Toilet break half time was a bit rushed but just manageable.
T. S.
Friendly security woman really made us welcome. All the staff good. Small theatre well worth visiting if there is a production on that interests.
D.
Saw nineteenth eighthy-four here. Was a nice theatre with lots of leg room in the stalls!
Don't be afraid to sit near the back, it's not that large
R. C.
Sat in the upper circle seat B1. View a bit restricted but ok. Not a lot of leg room for taller patrons.
Bar had quite a queue at the interval and took about 10mins to get drinks, so be quick off the mark!
N. B.
We went to see The Jungle play here, it was amazing! You sit within the stage and feel completely immersed. Staff were very friendly and great location.
R. G.
Fairly standard for a theatre in London really. Seats are equally on par. As are the refreshments and facilities. Not a bad experience.
M. B.
Acoustics good, actors voices projected right to back of theatre. Seating not all that comfortable. Was told by attendant to stand when seating was available right where she was standing.
B. D.
Amazing theatre production!!
D. K.
James McAvoy was brilliant as Cyrano. A no frills play with loads of young talented actors and actresses. Leila stands out as a character. Highly recommended.
S. M.
The Jungle...wow so moving... powerful thought provoking. Walk in from the street to a transformed theatre... Amazing experience. Honest brutal felt real. Actors sublime thank you
D. F.
Small theatre with brilliant scenery for Fiddler on the Roof. Amazing show, just a shame that drinks and snacks are so expensive.
A. B.
Incredible. Beg, borrow or steal a ticket
R. T.
Staff were more than helpful, polite and accommodating. Venue was very clean and a fantastic evening.
A. v. H. d. B.
A small but very cosy theater with very friendly staff who are very willing to help.
Me and my daughter went there to see Spamalot and because it's so small and intimateyou could really see the joy the actors had in playing and in challenging eachother.
The lady at the boxoffice, the lady at the bar downstairs, the gentleman from the cloakroom, the gentlemen from the shop and ofcourse all the actors..... THANK YOU! for giving me and my daughter a great evening.
Thanks
A. T.
Was sat in row E of Upper Circle, and there was less leg room than a Ryanair flight. Now got bruises on my shins from where I was wedged against the seat in front, I am 5' 6" so average height. Put a real dampener on the evening as was so uncomfortable. Went to see 1984 which was amazing, but as others have mentioned you can't see all the screen if you are in the Upper Circle so don;t get the full affect. I would seriously think twice about going to see anything else at this theatre, which is a shame as it's location and ease of getting to is great.
T. W.
Very nice small theatre but like other will put sure they turn the heating as it gets far to warm in there, Great show
S. E.
Went to Cabaret, so good!
K. H.
Great experience and Cabaret was excellent.
A. T.
Very cosy and the seats were a lot more comfortable than any other theatre I've ever been to, in London.
Expensive drinks but hey, it's not a pub.
A. C.
Fabulous performance good seats even for a tall big guy.
Only downside with all these older theatres no lifts which when you are carrying a leg makes it difficult
A. W.
Saw Fiddler on the Roof. Great show and small intimate theatre. Not much leg room if you are tall.
S. S. V.
Such an amazing, beautiful and versatile theatre! High quality performances there also. Love it!
L. G.
Beautiful historic theater a block off the Thames. If you have wide shoulders, be prepared for a tight squeeze in the dress stalls, but it's all part of the experience!
S. B.
Saw 1984 here and unfortunately the gallery seats are really not great (top half of the play was hidden). I get it, they say restricted view on the tickets but this is a review of the venue so...Facilities, staff were same as any other theatre.
c. c.
A good theatre for its environment. With an outstanding stage that they transform very well for the last three plays they've been showing.
S. H.
Good theatre but be careful if all you can afford is the cheap seats, views are restricted despite what their website states and anyone over 4 foot will find the leg room restrictive.
S. C.
Cabaret was fantastic! Highly recommended
R. D.
Old theatre in Northumberland Avenue, just round the corner from Embankment Underground Station, originally putting on variety shows and was later used by the British Broadcasting Corporation for many of its own shows'. It is now part of the ATG theatre group. The photo depicts the set of The Jungle, a National Theatre and Young Vic joint production about the demise of the Calais refugee camp of that name.
M. Z.
Watched Fiddler on the Roof here. The stage is small, casts entrance or exit the stage through the aisles. You're just like living in this little Jewish village.
M. H.
An Inspector Calls. Brilliant. Loved the chandelier too. Drinks very pricey though.
S. F.
Brilliant, love the arrangement. Staff may need to cope a little under pressure when serving drinks before show and at interval! Generally speaking, lovely experience
J. W.
Visited to see 1984. Fantastic show with amazing mixed media aspect. Theatre staff were very polite and professional. We will definately be visiting again
A. E.
Great old theatre, very atmospheric with a lovely little bar. Production of Fiddler on the roof was excellent.
A. H.
Small but comfortable theatre. Saw Derren Brown here and there were good views from the stalls. Easy to get in and out.
B. K.
Great environment, excellent experience?
M. B.
Lovely old theatre with good facilities and generally interesting repertoire of plays and shows. Obviously liking what they stage is the most important reason to visit.
A. P.
Totally amazing time at Cabaret.
R. K.
This theatre really showed off the stage, comfortable seating. The theatre bar seemed a little hectic, with one man manning the bar and having to run downstairs to grab bottles of wine
M. V.
Excellent adaptation of Cyrano de Bergerac. James McAvoy marvelous. Amazing use of his voice. Excellent cast. I thoroughly enjoyed.
B. B.
Small theatre. The temperature was unbearably hot. No ventilation or air conditioning.
The show was great but extremely uncomfortable
J. S.
Lovely little theatre near Embankment tube and a short walk to Trafalgar Square. Seats comfortable and small, intimate stage.
T. S.
Thoroughly enjoyed Fiddler on the roof presentation, cast were brilliant and put their hearts and souls into the performance
T. H.
Helpful staff & good venue, with a brilliant show, being Fiddler on the Roof. Would love to get back an see this before it ends its current run.
J. A.
Great play, friendly staff...especially in the upper circle bar.
I. W.
I was in the second row in the upper gallery. There is very little leg room. I'm not sure my knees or shins will ever recover.
S. S.
Fun place, super steep seating with many seats on side with obstructed views. The play was good -Cyrano de Bergerac
S. C.
Went to see 1984 here, nice theatre, reasonable size but still able to see from the back with no issues. They offer cocktails
J. M.
Typical London theatre so lots of atmosphere. We were in the cheap seats though and there was no leg room at all, which made for a rather uncomfortable performance.
k. b.
Lovely theatre , very handy to embankment tube
D. P.
Really good show, well worth seeing if you can. Reasonable priced tickets compared to other London shows.
S. H.
Tucked away round the back of Charing Cross station, we got a lovely welcome at the bright and cheery Playhouse Theatre: greeted by knights and wenches so that as soon as we arrived we were in the Spamalot spririt! This really helped when queing to order interval drinks! At most theatres people just get grumpy and try to push in, but we all helped each other, smiled and joked (which made the queueing seem shorter even though it wasn't!) and it all got the evening off to an absolute flyer!
M. F.
Fiddler. Great set. Tradition never ages. Poignant ending.
Sadly still topical...
r. r.
Too hot. No air conditioning. Seats up the top didn't mention restricted view due to where actors where standing on stage.
P. S.
The Playhouse Theatre was great. We'd love to go back for another production in the future. …
J. C.
Caroline or change... Performers were incredible storyline a bit like a Mike Leigh film looking at all the detail in everyday life of a family in 1960s Louisiana.
T. V.
Amazing venue. Brilliant play. Small but cozy. Plenty of bars and restrooms
j. c.
Great theatre to see a wonderful version of Fiddler on the Roof.
Sat quite high up and was very warm but didn't detract from setting and performance.
C. F.
A beautiful theatre and efficient air conditioning. It would have five stars if there were more toilets.
B. B.
Small theatre. The temperature was unbearably hot. No ventilation or air conditioning.
The show was great but extremely uncomfortable
L. H.
Great layout and is easy to see stage from all angles. Also helpful staff and a few good bars.
D. P.
Fantastic show, lovely Victorian building with beautiful decor unfortunately the seating is very cramped. In the upper circle the first few rows have restricted viewing in row b we could only see half the stage.
L. J.
Theatre production was great. Theatre nice and small, no matter where your tickets are you get a good seat.
c. b.
Never been to theatre where people could take bottles of wine in. Excellent show but spoilt by some noisy people
M. L.
The set for Fiddler.on the Roof was amazing. Fabulous version of the play. I love musicals.
B. H.
Went to see 1984 here, easy to find although the signage for the balcony is quite unclear and the balcony bar not wonderful. Nevertheless the show was great!
L. S.
Saw 1984 here and the play was excellent. Drinks were extortionate and little space to wait unless you were willing to pay for entry to a lounge bar.
N. G.
What a great little theatre. Very friendly staff. £15 standing seats are great when available
J. E. I.
Amazing play and an amazing theatre
A. M.
Excellent view of the stage with comfortable chairs and excellent legroom however very small areas to purchase drinks etc and toilets very difficult to find.
Y. W.
The seats were comfortable, the viewing was good even from the back seats - the play was excellent (glengarry glen ross).
K. T.

Seats have little leg room if you tall you going to struggle specially if packed! Play we saw was excellent (The best Man)
J. H.
Went to see the revolutionary 1994 r- directed version of An Inspector Calls, the playhouse is a lively small theatre, with a cosy atmosphere that has big personality
J. A.
It was good because I saw fidder on the roof. But the seats were uncomfortable. We sat on the upper circle in the front row.
M. a. C. G.
Lovely production of Fiddler on the roof. Seats fairly comfy compared to other West End theatres
S. R.

S. C.
Lovely theatre! I went to watch ghost stories and it was fantastic, very clean and warm

D. G.
Fantastic venue, perfectly laid out. Friendly and attentive staff, reasonably priced drinks. Excellent!
C. P. Q.
Staffs were helpful and friendly. My wife and I had a wonderful time. The show was fabulous.
E. L.
Lovely old theatre small but great seats in dress circle worth a visit good show
F. H.
Saw Caroline or Change. Fantastic singing but slightly depressing topic @ the life of a coloured maid in the American South in 1963. Brought tears to my eyes.
J. V.
Great theatre, easy to find, drinks are a little pricey but I would recommend finding seats down stairs
R. E. (.
Came to London for an afternoon performance at the theatre good location, near Embankment tube station, loved the decor inside the theatre, foyer became a bit crowded whilst waiting for doors to open.
S. E.
Nice theatre, shall enough to not feel miles away from the stage. Expensive food and drink, which is what you come to expect in London theatres.
A. R.
Really nice theatre. Wherever you are in the audience you see the stage really well.
F. J.
Great production of Fiddler on the Roof. Fantastic stage design tremendous performances. Bravo!
J. C.
A really cosy yet fancy theatre. As usual the prices here are extortionate and there isn't really a bar or anything. The theatre still feels cosy and nice though
J. R.
A lovely intimate theatre where even the back row of the stalls offer excellent views. Friendly, helpful, diligent stewards.
J. D.
Small and cosy theatre but the view from almost every seat is magnificent, feels like you're on stage
E. M.
It's a kind of Cyrano de Bergerac, but freely adapted by Jamie Lloyd. Very Interesting! James McAvoy is Fantastic!
N. S.
Wow wow wow... Sorry that's it you need to go and find out
J. C.
Caroline or change... Performers were incredible storyline a bit like a Mike Leigh film looking at all the detail in everyday life of a family in 1960s Louisiana.
D. K.
I saw Cyrano de Bergerac this time round, a theatre that seems to deal in excellence. James McAvoy was outstanding!
K. E.
Nice, intimate theater in London's theater district. Great performance of Fiddler on the Roof.
J. R.
Historic Theatre. Good Stage and acoustics. Staff Friendly and Good Facilities. Disabled seating available.

J. L.
Very nice theatre with comfortable seats. The bar is very expensive compared to all the venues I've been.
