Great opportunity to meet other creative + crafty people, but I have been enquiring about wanting to become a member for over a year now! Why is this so difficult?

Awesome shared workshop space, with friendly regulars and a great ethos. Be prepared to get involved with all sorts of activities from running workshops to helping keep the space clean.

Whether you've never made anything in your life - but would like to - or are a master at some craft, or anything in between, the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of this group is pervasive. Having said that, almost everyone I've met there is a capable coder (as am I), so there is an emphasis on ideas that involve programmable machines, from the door entry system, which exploits the uniqueness of Oyster cards, to quadcopters and 3D printers. The line-up of kit that's going to be installed in the refurbished railway arch at Herne Hill is impressive - laser cutter, 3D printer, hand tools, to name a few. The trustees are doing an amazing job liaising with suppliers that want to put their sometimes rather expensive kit on show, and the result is that SLMS is going to have a very impressive capability. This group is worth joining, no question.
