Reviews of Spa Experience Old Street
S. E.
First timer at this spa. Pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and people density. Friendly and social regulars. Cold plunge pool was cold enough to give a good contrast to the dry saunas and steam room. Water, robe, towel and flip flops were provided. Locker room was very small but wasn't an issue during this visit. I'll be back, good value and proper relaxing activity. Thumbs up.
A. G.
3 Stars because my therapist Michelle was absolutely brilliant - aside from that this "Spa" is dark and dingy!
Not sure why, but the Old Street Spa is really dark compared to the Bethnal Green Spa which is brightly lit. It's also outdated and shabby which takes away from the idea of a "Spa Experience".
Due to a lack of staff there is no one available to show you around or explain the facilities - you just stumble around on your own, and as others have mentioned most of the lockers don't work. The lockers that do work don't have hangers or hooks so your clothes and belongings are left in a heap.
The receptionists are unsure of the treatments that are available and the booking process is a nightmare - on the day of my Spa I got a phone call telling me they had no payment showing against my appointment. I had paid £113.00 the week before in person because no one responds to the booking system. After several wasted hours (I had to go home and look for the receipt) they confirmed that they could see the payment and rebooked me for the following week. They offered me a gift voucher for the inconvenience, but overall I'd rather spend three times the price and have a real Spa day in a luxury environment than go to a place that is disorganized with run down facilities.
M. Z.
I always enjoy my visit to this spa. Brilliant place, brilliant staff, memorable experiences. 👏 ❤💫

I've been going here for years such value for money and great for well being.
P.s. there is a new receptionist her attitude stinks always rushing people out the changing room has no manners and think she ownes the place. You will know who I am referring to once you go there she needs to be sacked and brings the place down. I will be going to Bethnal Green for my next one before I catch up with this woman.
She really needs to go !!!!

[EDIT] I got an email from the customer service today in the early afternoon where they were able to cancel my reservation. So I can consider myself satisfied, despite not being a very smooth process.
I've been trying to cancel my reservation for 2 days! I tried from the website but it says that I need to call the number. I tried to call 9 times in the past 2 days and I also sent an email and still no answer. Is this customer service? If I will be charged because it was too late due to cancellation policy they will never see me again.
Extremely poor experience so far.
M. M.
Got 2 absolutely lovely massages from Daniela (I hope I didn't misspell the name) and Michelle. Longer than expected, these ladies are absolutely recommended! I left a tip at the reception, I hope they received it.
S. Y.
It’s nice but can get super busy and cleaning can be slightly neglected at times.
G. C.
A perfect way to spend a hungover Sunday morning! It's not the top of the line spa, but it was a relaxing and clean experience, combined with a great massage.
A. G.
I had an excellent back massage and facial by Nataly. My face was glowing afterwards and my back felt so relaxed. I will definitely be coming back. Thank you Nataly.
P.s. my daughter was equally impressed and it was a very nice birthday present for her.

Spent 4 blissful hours in this SPA...loved the Lemon and Orange steam room and rainforest shower. Had a wonderful massage and facial by lovely, caring staff. Water and herbal tea on tap. Lovely facilities..feels like you're away from everything. No idea how much it costs...it was a gift. Who cares! You go down in semi-darkness and come back out all shiny and new!!!
E. A.
I had a deep tissue massage which was carried out by a lovely therapist named Tilly. She was fantastic! She was warm, welcoming (despite me arriving 10 minutes late) and made sure to ask me how I preferred the pressure. I think that I will give the spa facilities a try next time as I didn't use them during this visit. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely be going back again.

I got a saturday off peak deal and it was very cheap. I wasn't expecting much when I got there, but it had a good variety of things to do. The saunas were very relaxing and the atmosphere too. The only thing is that there isn't pool in the spa, but you have to go upstairs to the better pool which has children, families and different people swimming.

Needs a few tweaks....
I have been visiting the spa for a few years now as I need a sauna every so often. This is the most convenient place for me to go to. Firstly I have to say I am very grateful to have this near to where I live. I really appreciate the space. However each time I go I think: "If I was the manager I would do this.....". I'm always surprised why things haven't been tweaked a little. It's essentially a nice space. But a little TLC could go a long way.
Pluses: the sauna is always hot. And the steam rooms are nice. The space is really nice as well.
Cons:
1) Far too much space is taken by the traditional - usually not very warm - rooms on the right hand side of the spa. And few people seem to use them. Not a very good use of space, and not sure about their function?
2) Some of the reception staff don't seem very welcoming at all.Their expressions leave you wondering whether they take any pride in their job. It seems you are a hindrance to their day when you arrive. You don't feel welcomed.
3) The changing room is tiny! And many of the lockers don't have hooks inside. So you need to pile everything in a pile. One suggestion: on the women's only sessions, perhaps the staff could suggest that some women use the men's changing rooms?
3) There seems to be no bin in the changing room or the outside hair-drying area. You need to take rubbish to the reception (also no bin area there).
4) I find one towel insufficient. Two would be much better.
5) The showers are not very good. You need to stand with your back against the button to keep the water on. And it's not very strong and far too close to the wall - bad design.
6) No hooks on the door or higher up in the showers to keep things off the floor. There's a small shelf but it doesn't provide enough space.
7) Last time I was there the soap canister was sitting on the floor, not affixed to the wall.
8) Someone needs to untwist the cords of the hairdryers and straighteners!
9) Not enough hooks in the changing rooms.
10) Not great choice of music. I'd prefer no music in the relaxation room.
11) The water flow of the water containers in the relaxation room is very slow.
R. M.
The price is great for the range of facilities, however the spa is not kept very clean. I've been a few times, and it's not unusual for the soap to have run out in the showers and no paper in the toilets. There's hair bunnies on the floor in the changing rooms. On a recent visit I found the plunge pool unusable, it was murky with dirt floating in it, and the tepidarium smelled of urine. It's generally a relaxing place but I won't be going back until they close for a deep clean.
D. E.
I've given this spa 4 stars because the facilities are decent. It's definitely relaxing. However some of the people who come to use the facilities are very loud and way to talkative for the setting- it's not the spas fault. The changing room is soo small, its terrible when it gets crowded- so when theres alot of bookings beware.
B. D.
Spacious and recently renovated gym with a huge pool. Never too crowded and they have a good cross fit room. On the expensive side for a gym and they could do more to make the experience a bit nicer. Would expect to have towels at this price point. Staff are friendly and always willing to help.
D. S.
Some facilities like the ice bucket is not installed and hot stone room is too cold.
S. R.
It is a lovely pool and very clean, due to it being refurbished. I signed my children up for swimming lessons. The only thing that worried me was when you get out the pool it was quite cold and the children started to shiver... The facilities have a new spa, gym and classes which i have not been to yet. I must say that i am happy that they reopen, because it is the closet council funded swimming pool close too where i live. If they can sort out the heating. I would be even happier. The staff are mixture of different races and sexes.. When it first open it was quite hectic and the staff seemed quite rushed, but now it settle down and the staff have been alto more helpful. I must say, i glad to have the swimming pool back again.
R.
Had a lovely hot stone massage with Theresa, even though i was running late she accommodated me and adjusted my massage to focus on problem areas thoroughly. I couldn’t recommend her more, she made my birthday that extra bit special, thank you!
H. S.
The baths have recently been restored to a very high standard. The facilities include a gym, pools and a set of Turkish baths.
The teaching pool has an adjustable floor so can change depth for different activities and the main pool is usually divided into four lanes (wide slow lane, two medium and one fast). The main pool is at a good temperature for exercising and is not too heavily chlorinated. The staff are very helpful and friendly and it is perhaps one of the best value swims in central London - £4.95 at peak times with no membership. It also has several female-only sessions.
Excellent discounts available for seniors inc. the Turkish Baths!
Y. C.
Nice place, friendly, smiling, helpful staff. Gym, fitness place, pool, and spa are all together. price of membership counting with quality and services- very affordable. spa - my one of the best experience: amazing sauna+cool water pool=deeply relax!!!it's have some other nice features like two Aroma Steam Rooms, Turkish Baths,Ice Fountain, Monsoon Shower, Bucket Shower, Plunge Pool, Hammam and Relaxation Lounge and its never full because of booking system...
D. H.
Tuesday 3rd May, this is the second alternative BETTER swimming pool I visited during the closure of the Aquatic Centre(for 2016 European Aquatics Championship).
I arrived at 7pm but the reception didn't tell me that I only have one hour before the pool was reserved for women swimmers only(Didn't see any sign before I left the changing room, either). I would've gone straight into the pool instead of taking a 10 minutes shower before going to swim.
They need to go easy on the chlorine solution as I almost suffocated the moment I went into the pool area. The pool was about 30 metres in length, 1 metre deep at the shallow end and 3.8 metres at the deep end. The pool was clean enough, no noticeable rubbish at the bottom apart from hair from the swimmers.
Overall experience was fine, they could've reminded customers to use overshoes to minimise the muddy situation in the male changing room though.
A. H.
A calm blissful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. My regular spot to refresh and rejuvenate and simply unwind. Incredible value for money...
N. C.
I had a great time at the spa. Super relaxing. Two steam rooms and two saunas available. Several types of baths and plunges. Really recommend. The facilities are not luxurious but clean and simple.
O. D.
Good pool. Clean facilities. Friendly staff. Only £4.50 to pop in for a swim, no booking or membership required. Note: no towels or toiletries are provided, so bring your own. Good powerful hairdryers!
E. B.
Wonder female only Friday nights. It's great value for money. I also had a scalp, back and face massage-so incredibly relaxing.
It's a shame that they don't enforce silence or regulate the noise level in the relaxing lounge as it was a bit loud with a few chatty women. Sort of ruins the experience if you're after some time out.
L. C.
Amazing once again....love this place...one steam room out of use but orange scented one was great...never crowded and all women respect quietness. Treatwell offered deal 2 for £26 3hour timeslot.
Towels, flip flops and bathrobe provided. Apple's and herbal teas on tap and amazing beds to lie and.chill on. Music played low in background add to the relaxation experience. This truly must be the best Turkish baths in operation......Will always be returning time and time again.......
B. R.
Great set up, super clean (take it from a German) and nicely finished. Everything worked. Certainly the nicest sauna I have been in London. If I have any criticism it's that the place lacks armosphere. I don't necessarily mean soft furnishings, but a few more candles and some cool pieces of art wouldn't go a miss.
F. F.
Deep Tissue Massage with Theresa was excellent. Will come regularly. Relaxing yet releasing too. Amazing value for money! Thank you for releasing all of the lockdown work from home tension!
r.
The Spa here never fails to disappoint me. It could be so much better (and for the price it should be). It certainly looks the part, very smart, spacious and tasteful since it's major refurb in 2012. I visit occasionally (once every few months) and there is always seems to be something not working, or not working properly. I was there last Tuesday and one of the steam rooms was barely working at all and the hot rooms were not even warm. I, and several other patrons, complained about this and were told that they "should be OK soon" but I was there for nearly two hours and the temperature barely rose above that of a warmish room. I also have issue with the showers, surely its not too much to expect a good strong shower to wash everything off after a sauna/steam but the showers here are pathetic, the water pressure is weak and the shower heads are tiny, fixed and non-adjustable. For the price I expect better
N. B.
I went to the Spa ♡
Loved it
Normally is divided men from women and even if it was supposed to be divided all women a part me were in swimsuit (?)
They provide slippers towel and bathrobe
So just relax and go
I treated myself with a massage before ♡♡ yeah! Nicola was good
I didn't like much the part of massage with the bamboo but she was really good with her hands and attentive.
2 steam rooms orange& lemon, mint& eucalyptus
2 dry sauna, s cold shower (I liked the middle button it was like a pouring rain, wow!)
The splash in the swimming pool was a rebirthing sensation
All lights are soft, nice chaises longue, fountain with ice and relaxing room I have to rebook it soon!!
N. G.
Way better than any of the Virgin gyms or LA Fitnesses of the world. Nice, clean facilities, not too busy if you can avoid peak hours. Gym is pretty good, not many staff about but then I prefer it when you don't feel obliged to give way to people having personal training sessions. Nicest place I've found in London.
H. S.
My wife and I went here to celebrate wedding anniversary we booked a 50 min slot for a joint massage, we both enjoyed it but thought the room was too small barely big enough for 2 massage beds.
we would go back again and if we had more time make use of the spa.
T. D.
I booked on Monday just gone for myself and my best friend we had the experience of the spa facility a body scrubfor 25min body massage for 50min and a facial for 50min what an amazing experience really enjoyed our self's we were asked on our facial treatment what type of skin we were I did tell the lady I was very sensitive but they use the same cream on me and my friends skin, the Next Day my face was so sore and burning, I'm very disappointed in their facial creams not suitable at all for my skin. Definitely go back for a body scrub and a massage but NOT for a facial treatments
N. B.
My local pool. Huge ceilings, clean water, operational changing rooms. Haven't yet explored the spa as I'm still bemused by the price leap (£13-£25), but as the temperature descends, I'm sure I'll be convinced! Love the refurb, glad they kept the old pool and really happy it's open again.
Z. C.
It is a good place for swimming, huge swimming pool and good facilities. Lot of people comes here, a lot of family and children as well. But it I think it is a good place for dedicate swimmer
Btw the spa downstairs is separated from the pool, though they have access to the pool. The bath is nice over there however, the design is a little bit confusion though it is huge.
F. T.
Has a selection of two steam rooms, two saunas, a plung pool, heated room and a relaxation room. With three hours unlimited access, it is good value for money for the facilities . The massages are good, but a bit pricey.
L. B.
One of the local best saunas is definitely this in Ironmonger Row Baths. It’s cleaner than other saunas I’ve been at. It’s big enough and it’s never overcrowded. I’m planning to visit the gym these days and after that I’ll share my experience.
K. B.
Have been here twice now -once for hot stone therapy and once for the deep tissue massage. Both times were excellent! Very friendly and professional staff and very tidy ,clean and welcoming space.
Recommended!
H. S.
Great value spa in a renovated 1930s bath house. Two different types of sauna, two different fragranced steam rooms, Turkish hammam, plunge pool and relaxation room. Free water, fruit, herbal tea and magazines. Bliss.
A. B.
Best in Town, and I am quite critical of spas especially in the capital and especially if they are connected to gyms. This is the cleanest of them all, lovely staff too!! At Ironmonger Spa there are no people scrubbing their bodies, putting feet near where you sit, leaving a mess, with their dirty rubbish bin bags taking over like filth... unfortunately I have experienced those sights in other places.
Those unorthodox practices should be banned in all steam and saunas and may I also congratulate you to introduce a pump to clean before after entering for each individual (steam). Keep up the good work guys!
I'd also suggest GLL to remove all the bad listings here as inappropriate for what I have witnessed in the last 10 months from the Ironmonger Spa new opening. (I am a google contractor)
A full and satisfied member

Amazing period building, professionally run, with a wonderful Spa Experience downstairs. The only thing missing is a Jacuzzi, but it's still my favourite Spa Experience within 'the Better (GLL) group' despite that!
D. A.
Fantastically refurbished Ironmonger Row Baths is a bright fitness centre, there is also a spa which I haven't been to but is meant to be nice. I mainly use the pool which is 33yd's long and has a fabulous viewing gallery with original wooden pews. There is sometimes problems with the hot water which isn;t fun if you;ve been for a swim on a winter's morning.
A. Y.
Very clean and welcoming facilities , the pool is lovely , the sauna is the best I ever been to in London .Me and my friend had the 50 min body massage and it was just amazing!!
c. s.
You get so much for your money. Recommended getting the scrub from Michelle. She was great.
A. S.
One of the best Spa experiences from all I 've been so far ... good changing area ... clean... relaxing... it was a pitty we tried it on weekend with my friends but without booking we were not allowed...
J. S.
Great, well kept facility, staff friendly and lots to choose from within the spa. Always been nice and clean and well looked after. Also the Elemis products they sell there are brilliant.
H. B.
All clouds envy the euphoric, epiphanic, dreamland that has been created for the good people of Old Street. This fun-bunker is packed with healing rooms of varied potions and spells to recover the stiffest of desk-necked yuppie, and at twenty six quid it couldn't be more convenient, better value or feel more VIP - I recommend anyone give this heaven some lovin.
D. P.
The women only Fridays are the absolute best! The facilities are wonderful! The staff are friendly and helpful! The best three hours of relaxation one could dream of!
H. E.
Great service, quick and friendly staff. Instead of suggested 50min my appointment took 30min with one of the supervisors there on Tuesday evening. Always happy to go back! :)
