Reviews of St Dunstan in the East Church Garden
K. B.
Beautiful gardens. The original church was destroyed during the Great Fire of London. It is lovely how they kept some of the structure in place.
The gardens are busy during the day, so if you want to see it empty, arrive before 9am.
G. B.
What a beautiful place to visit. Within all the high rise buildings there is the ruins of this church which now is also a garden. It was very peaceful here away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
M.
Absolutely wonderful garden nestled away from the busy roads of the City of London.
An excellent location for an energising lunch break, a coffee with friends, a romantic date or a wedding photoshoot.
It is also a great example of a very British way of integrating the old with the new and nature with man made structures.
It's one of the most beautiful corners of London and a fantastic, hidden gem, definitely worth exploring.
Z. S.
The gothic ruins of St Dunstan in the East Church, is a tranquil little green space nested in the the busy City of London and popular with visitors and workers. The ruins of the church, large arch windows and the greenery draping the walls makes this place so beautiful and serine. There are enough benches around the place which is great. You will also see many people coming for photo shoots, reading a book, it is a little hidden gem.Overall, I had a lovely morning here and highly recommend this place very peaceful and full of history.
D. R.
Super unique and elegant spot. Basically a bombed out church overgrown with trees and flowers. Very different vibes each season. Great spot for a date or detour from a city stroll.
A. D.
Such a wonderful hidden gem. Its so peaceful and tranquil here you can easily forget you're in Central London. Could of stayed here forever ❤
K. P.
This is a beautiful hidden spot in London. ‘St Dunstan in the east’ is haft way between Tower of London and London Bridge. Walkable to Monument station. This church was ruined in the second world war. You can come to read or have a little picnic. I’ve seen some people come and sit to have lunch break. Great city oasis.
C. B.
Lovely church ruins in the middle of the city. It is a beautiful and peaceful place in all season but be aware that there are lots of Instagramers all the time posing for selfies. The ruins are walking distance from Monument tube station. Highly recommend.
w. m.
it is an extremely beautiful place. calming and aesthetic. is is honestly picturesque. the plants and vegetation are so pretty. there are places to sit however i went at peak hour and all seating areas were taken. another thing to note is that it is quite small. many train stations nearby and other iconic places so overall this place is pretty awesome
J. R.
Beautiful gothic church ruins, just a stone's throw from Monument station. You would scarcely know you were in the middle of office buildings and busy roads. Very quiet, peaceful and underused.
T. W.
The vibes I got here on a moody and grey winter morning were goosebumps inducing. 4 stars because of its age i.e. still exists after all these years.
J. W.
Small, slightly hidden gem close to London bridge. The church was partially destroyed in WW II, but the foundation remained intact. A quiet place to sit down and take in history
G. L.
Church ruins in the heart of the city!
The bell tower is intact. A nice place to visit, plants drape over the walls.
A. T.
Beautiful place and piece of history in the middle of city and moderna. It is a bit small but there are still sceneries that are magical. Definitely recommend walking by but check opening times as it closes early!
E. L.
Such a pretty and peaceful place, although be aware you may walk into a photoshoot which may be a little awkward!
M. S.
The ruins of a church which is steeped in history. It's worth the effort to find this hidden gem amongst all the high rise buildings, as it seem peaceful and you can sit and take a few minutes to contemplate on whatever is on your mind
M. M.
A small haven of peace in it's own little time warp set amongst the skyscrapers of the metropolis.
What struck me most on my visit here is just how popular it is with couples coming to do photographs of each other framed within the arches of what would previously have housed stained glass windows. Benches provided around the garden for you to rest a while.
M. J.
Such a great place to relax!!peaceful place in between the busy city.If you are a Instagramer it’s the best place.the church architecture is so beautiful even though we can’t see completely, but gives you a beautiful experience
Definitely recommend everyone to visit here
P.
Such a beautiful little green space nestled in the busy city of London. The ruins of the church, large arch windows and the greenery draping the walls makes this place so beautiful. There are enough benches around the place which is great. You will also see many people coming for photo shoots. Overall, I had a lovely afternoon here and highly recommend this place.
K. M.
Beautiful place to rest for a while. Lovely photo opportunity for those that are into that. Would reccomend a stop by.
M. M.
It's a lovely little garden tucked away in central London and near the Tower of London. If you're going to the one, go first to the garden and enjoy the peace and cool fountains.
A. P.
It's worth coming here in the morning when there aren't so many people. During the day, unfortunately a bit busy (lots of photographers). The place is enchanting, a very mysterious place where you can sit and relax in silence.
C. G.
Great peaceful place in the city of London to have a sandwich and a coffee. The church is a ruin that’s been left to nature growing through the stone work and a garden created inside it with benches to sit. Also a good photo shoot location - looks like something out of CS Lewis’s Narnia!
K. C.
What a beautiful place to sit, read a book have some lunch and enjoy. Bit of history just by the tower of london.
B. B.
Beautiful old church in the centre of London, tranquil garden for break from city life - hidden in plain sight, walking distance from some of London’s main attractions and ideal spot for some photography/photo shoots- generally not to busy, good place for 15 minutes of peace
M. A.
Quite and green space in the middle of the city, a really cool hangout spot! And just a 5 min walk from here, you can go to the riverside and enjoy a good view of the London bridge.
H. B.
An amazing ruined church with beautiful plants and flowers growing amidst the building. If you are into photography or looking for a quiet place for lunch, this is a must!
A. ..
Calm and nice place. Not too big, good for taking a lunch break away from the big city.
N. K.
Who can think that you can find this beautiful peace of nature and history in the center of the noisy London area? It's like getting into another dimension. Come here to read books, enjoy sunshine or just escape from the 21st century. I absolutely loved it
J. W.
A very pretty secluded and beautifully maintained little space with some lovely plants which is unique as a bombed out church. Also has plenty of seating
T. S.
Beautiful ruins of a church just a short walk away from Bank station. Looks very much out of place in the metropolis. Garden maintained regularly and is a great spot to sit and have lunch in on the benches. Worth a visit for anyone in Central London.
A. C.
Splendid place, relaxed and great for taking a short break from a busy day.
a. e.
Amazing place. Good vibes. A good place to chill and enjoy the view. Calming to sit and watch.
t.
An ideal place for a photo shoot but be sure you won't be the only one taking pictures there as it's quite popular for its aesthetic. It's such a beautiful place and if you're looking for the more hidden gems of London, this is a must see!
C. E. S.
Nice small park usually full of instagramers, wedding photographers, etc. Winter it's the worst time to visit for leaves already fell and cold/rainy weather.
C. C.
Beautiful little hidden spot. You’ll forget for a second that you’re in a busy city
R. G.
If your looking for a quiet spot in the midst of London. St Dunstan in the East is the place to go. A great spot for a photoshoot. When there I saw a couple get engaged.
H. K.
An oasis in the middle of an urban desert. Was recommended this place and it didn't disappoint . Very scenic place .
V. B.
Good secret place for photography. Better to visit on weekdays since there are many photographers and insta people acquire the spots.
M. D.
This was lovely. Especially nice in autumn. So atmospheric. Google it's history too, it's very interesting.
I. B.
Smaller than expected. Imagine it was a sweet little oasis before the secret of its existence got out. Advise picking the least busy day of the week and time of day (probably 3am) to visit because just a handful of fellow gawkers and the space feels crowded. Still worth a quick visit if exploring the neighbourhood, but don't make a special trip.
S.
Beautiful place to visit. Hidden away but easy to find
J. K.
It is kinda abandoned and they have some seats. Have a small garden. Many people come here for the photoshoots.
P. L.
Well, for vintage and retro style lovers, this place will be your hot shot....And to look for a hiding place to read a book in serenity in the middle of tall buildings in East London, this place can be an alternative as well. But this is only a ruin of an old Church that London has hundreds of the complete one. Well, at least you don't have to ask for any entrance pass to come in.
T. C.
What a lovely find, a tranquil little place away from the hustle and bustle going on just yards away, but you'd never know it. Well worth popping by to get a few photos if nothing else!
K. S.
This is a true hidden gem inside the city centre! 😍 Amazing for a photoshoot!
S. P.
Tranquil church badly damaged in the blitz and left for nature to run wild. Free entry and a good place to relax and watch the world go by slowly.
陳.
very easy to find!
a nice quiet place in the middle of the city.
when we went there were a few photographers doing shoots though, so it was quite difficult to take our own photos as we couldn’t walk through half of the area.
would still recommend visiting though!
Z. B.
Lovely place, but also very popular with tourists so there's always people talking.
V. N.
Lovely place, for sure worth a visit if you’re in the area
J. B.
Beautiful place tucked away and left to nature, great to find a spot and read - don't expect to be alone though, it's a photographer's haven!
T. T.
A small, stunning, and tranquil garden tucked amongst low lying office blocks. It is artfully landscaped with lush flora and clouds of creeping ivy that drape over and add life to remnants of stuccoed walls where a church once stood. There's plenty of sitting spots and benches around the church garden and there's a tiny fountain in the central "courtyard" which is encircled by wooden benches. It is an extremely popular photo spot for fashion modeling and nature and architecture lovers alike.
R. M.
Peace in the city. Grab a book or just yourself and escape the mania of nine million fellow Londoners. This is the place where you may rest your busy mind. Hashtag, mentalhealth.
L. C.
Beautiful green space right in the heart of a concrete jungle. Lovely to see the ruins remain, and beautifully maintained planting. Nice tranquil spot for just sitting to escape city life.
C. G.
Beautiful, tranquil escape (or was til the Instagrammers discovered it - lol! Full of London’s young beaux ideal at the weekend - a lot of cheekbones, jawlines and Blue Steel on show... The challenge is to photograph the place as if it’s devoid of people!)
D. Y.
Lovely quiet place in the hustle and bustle of London. Seats to relax in and so pleased to see it's kept its charm
J. L.
I adore this tranquil little spot. It’s calming and romantic. Can get a bit hectic when the workers are on lunch but if you get it at the right time it’s so peaceful and beautiful.
R. C. S.
Perfect resting place after a long day. Very tranquil and great for photos! Great place to stop by for 10-15 mins if you've got the time.
D. M.
A bit of quiet in a busy city.
C. B.
Magical place literally in the middle of London. Best time to go is in the morning and you will have this place for yourself. It is a quite spot to run from the crowded London.
You won’t regret visiting it!
M. C.
A tranquil place to sit in the heart of the city.
L. T.
Beautiful location. It could easily be overseen. Be prepared to wait and try to avoid a gazillion people taking instagram pictures here though. Lots of wannabe models from all sorts of levels wander around here if the weather is nice.
L. M.
Just in the middle of busy London, close walk from Monument station, this place can easily disconnect you from the city.
The church was destroyed during ww2, so you can grab some history lessons here.
E. K.
Finally managed to visit this little piece of quiet and tranquillity in the middle of London. I've known about this place for a couple of years but never managed to get to it somehow, until a recent visit to the Sky Garden which is a few minutes walk away. There is not much to the place apart from the remains of the church and the little garden area with a few benches and a little water feature, but it is so peaceful and absolutely lovely to sit in on a nice sunny day to avoid the bustle of the city around for a little bit.
E. M.
Hidden gem tucked away in London. The lovely church architecture still well preserved. Worth visiting!
G. S.
Tranquil, beautiful little space in the city. The maintained delapidation of the church structure is stunning. The gardens are well maintained and add to the natural character of the place. Lots of city workers frequent it for lunch, alongside the tourists wanting to catch a glimpse. Yet you can still find it eerily quiet most days. I've seen plenty of people come here for wedding shoots, and it's obvious to see why.
S. J.
A lovely bit of green in the middle of the city. What once was a church has been turned into a place of calm, to reflect and unwind. A beautiful, peaceful garden surrounded by the former church's walls. Small but beautiful.
s.
Lovely square with church ruins . Great location for photoshoot 👌
H. X.
Its really beautiful, surprising bit of greenery in London, it feels like finding a hidden garden, it's a bit smaller than you might think but it's definitely worth a visit for some lovely photos and a sit to admire the architecture
M. S. L.
Gorgeous I'm so glad I went it was very peaceful and a perfect place for breakfast
N. H.
A place of tranquility in the hubbub of London. A ruin of a Church bombed during the war now reclaimed by nature to bring a sense of harmony to life. Very photogenic & the small fountain in the middle flows in concentric rings, which is peaceful to watch. A little bit out of the way, but worth the walk. Near to Monument.
M. M.
mysterious place in the middle of the city
free of charge
E. K.
One of the most spectacular Gothic churches that I've ever visited until now
G. J.
Atmospheric City ruins, great place for photography (excellent colours and contrasts) or for a quiet sandwich lunch. No facilities or anything like that, it is what is left of the church and grounds.
L. G.
Very peaceful and quiet! Its a amazing spot to just stop, eat or talk, away from noise and streets. Built in between tall building and feels being away from city, a lot of plants and flowers. Relaxing spot!
F. I.
Good for a short visit but if you are planning to visit from a long distance place it is not recommended
J. C.
Found this place by accident, which is so often the case in the City. A real oasis of calm and quiet just a moment away from Fenchurch Street Station. Well worth a detour. Very well maintained planting, very clean and plenty of seating to take a few minutes out.
M. L.
Bombed out church. Tucked away amongst busy London buildings near Tower Hill. Must be fab in the summer with all the plants and flowers for a quiet oasis.
V. D.
Such a fascinating location. A step into a history... Lovely plantations with a few benches to have a rest. Nice open area and it is easily accessible.
K. H.
Such a beautiful little spot, about a 10 minute walk from the Tower of London; easy to fit in if you are traveling, and worth the time because it's a different scene than what a typical tourist would see in London. While we were there, there were several other tourists taking photos or sitting down at a bench to relax, and some locals on a lunch break, but it wasn't too busy. The history of it is amazing as well: built over 900 years ago, it was damaged in the Blitz of 1941 and the City of London decided to turn it into a garden which opened in 1971.
S.
Beautiful church ruins hidden in the city centre.
R. B.
Worth walking around this little place of history and tranquility if you're in the area
t. G.
Such a lovely and peaceful place to sit and have a break from the hub bub of our Capital.
c. g.
Peaceful place to stop and bring your lunch.
S. M.
I was in search of a geocache and had to explore this location to get the final co-ordinates for elsewhere - a real little gem. It has a long history and the majority of the church was destroyed in WWII but the Christopher Wren tower still stands. The area has been planted as a garden and has won numerous awards as a urban garden.
T. d. T. e. e. L.
St Dunstan in the East Church Garden is a truly unique space set within the ruins of a Wren church. This green oasis has benches and a fountain with greenery draping the historic walls.
Perfect for photos and videos - open from 8 am until 7pm
Nearest tube: Monument or Tower Hill
J. S.
A great place to come and relax after a day in the bustling city. Its suprisingly quiet and would be good shade in the summer. The architecture is amazing and very intresting. There is plenty of information about it and is a really nice place to come. It is well looked after and there are a few benches to sit on as well.
P. M.
Great place to enjoy serenity !
T. G.
Absolutely fantastic if in the area
n. k.
From all the hustle and bustle of London here it is, a post blitz ruins of a cathedral now a calm and relaxing park. Nice spot if you love photography.
L. M.
Quite interesting to see this hidden gem within the busy city of London. Surrounded by tall skyscrapers and 20th century buildings, it gives you that feeling of escaping through a time portal. Wish I had done justice to the photos but for the time being, I'm only left hungrily curious as to how this beauty thrives in springtime and summer.
C. L.
Peaceful oasis in the heart of the City.
Y. S.
Really lovely quiet area to come and relax in. Beautiful and calm location.
H. L.
Cool story behind it, and interesting park.
L. E.
My favorite place, here in London, is a piece of heaven ❤️❤️❤️😇 I am I. Love with. You can go on my instagram : LEMUREMMA so you can see more stories with this beautiful peacefully place in the heart of London. Is not far from Tower Bridge.
M. S.
Omg! This place is amazing!
A photographers dream place!
I love this place, lovely little photography find.
Got some fantastic shots!
Wether its raining to sunshine, each season, the church stand with its quirky atmosphere and stands out so well against the london background.
F. R.
An unexpected oasis in the hustle and bustle of London. Lovely, pituresque spot for an outdoor lunch during lockdown 😁
m.
As others have mentioned, St Dunstan-in-the-East is a former Church of England church on St Dunstan's Hill and largely destroyed in the Second World War. The ruins are now a public garden. Although he roof had been destroyed, the shell of the church still remains and is overgrown with various plant and ironically is very striking in the mix of brick and greenery. Picture perfect.
T. S.
A calm oasis in the middle of a busy city. Beautiful historical church ruin. Fantastic architecture, lovely gardens. Well worth visiting
S. C.
Really lovely spot for photos and sitting for a break from the city.
G. P.
Lovely old church ruin that is now a garden. Lots of people go there to take photos.
L. M.
Beautiful old church, well preserved and clean, used for a peaceful lunch break or aesthetic photoshoot. Lovely blend of architecture and nature.
a. g.
Best photogenic place, sit there and feel refresh
Awesome place
E. C.
This is the most beautiful place ever! You feel like in an old movie. This is a place to fall in love
d.
These lovely little gardens that you can find dotted around are wonderful, peaceful little oases of calm in the big bad hectic city.
M. H.
This is an old church that was destroyed in the Great Fire, rebuilt and then badly damaged in the Blitz. It was tidied up and opened in the 70's as a community garden so it's a lovely gothic ruin, almost like a folly in the middle of the city.
A. S. B.
Peaceful place in the middle of the urban chaos.
This STUNNING garden was built inside the walls of a church that was bombed during WW2.
It’s hidden in between all the tall buildings and it is the perfect spot for a little coffee break from work or to simply go spend some calm time appreciating the beautiful scenery.
Ps.: as you can see on my video, MIND THE STEP on the entrance! I was too busy admiring the view to realise that. 😂
R. S.
Lovely abandoned space turned park.
E. G.
This beautiful garden now occupies the grounds of a grade I listed 12th century old church, destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The walls and the tower still stand.
The visit is free and is very close to the Tower of London.
D. L. B.
Absolutely breathtaking scenery. An old church was transformed into a park. Perfect for taking pictures, especially in nicer dresses. Even though it's not a big park, due to the variety of scenes and lighting, you can take pictures with many different backgrounds and styles. I could imagine taking wedding or engagement pictures there.
J. S.
The ruins of St Dunstan in East are a nice haven to relax in the City of London. The church was badly destroyed during the Second World War. However the Tower designed by Christopher Wren remains intact.
N. H.
A bombed out church in the heart of London transformed into a forgotten park. A intimate semi circle of benches feature in the middle of the chapel to eat you lunch away from the hustle.
D. G. M.
For a church that has stood since 1100AD, survived the Great Fire of 1666, and many other calamities, only to be destroyed in the Blit, its ruins are wonderful to be around.
This Grade I listed building is a very tranquil place, close to the City of London, where you can sit in relative peace and enjoy the gardens and water fountain.
There are plenty of benches and small lawn areas, to sit and enjoy lunch and forget about your worries.
w. d.
Beautiful gardens in surrounding a bombed out church. One that the tourists don't usually get to....short walk to London bridge where you can take a photo of tower bridge
S. P. Ś. B.
Secret London. Absolutely fantastic place for. Photos and also to chill. Hided in the middle of the crowd. Can't be missed while you travelling to London . Check. More. Photos at instagram @samaprzezswiat
S. K.
Such a beautiful place. It's a bit hidden which makes the atmosphere there all the more mysterious and special.
P. A.
One of those delightful hidden oasis in the city. Beautiful garden inside a ruined church. A great place to relax and enjoy the peace and calm.
s.
Love this place. The tranquility in the middle of a big city buzz. It is a special feeling sitting inside it in the garden and listening the water fountain.. Been here several times and always looking forwards l to come back if anywhere around. Always a looked after place.
D. D. R.
Beautiful church ruins hidden in the centre of the city. Best to go when the sun is out and in summer when everything is green and blossoming.
T. S.
Absolutely love this church ruin. It is a quite haven in the busy, noisy city of London. Nice to just sit and soak up the atmosphere or meditate. Please go and visit
D.
Incredible such a relaxing peaceful site now but once the scene of madness during WW11 blitz of London.
J. C.
Hidden gem in the middle of the city! Beautiful church ruins which have been turned into a public garden. Great place to sit and eat lunch or just wander around
N. W.
Super beautiful place with a lovely, medieval and magical feel. Great place to chill and read a book.
E. R.
St Dunstan's in the East is one of London's best kept secrets although nowadays it's gaining popularity. It's a real gem which I have used several times for photo shoots. After the 1941 blitz the church was severely damaged and in 1967 a decision was made to turn the church into a public garden. It's a great place to come and relax at lunchtimes and is very peaceful and quiet. The gardens are well looked after and has many varieties of flora and fauna.
R. K.
Stunning and tranquil urban oasis. Crazy to think that you're in the City of London with the Walkie Talkie and Gherkin a few hundred yards away. Beautiful building and gardens. It was nice just to walk through. A great spot for lunch, I imagine. So quiet and peaceful.
J. E.
Beautiful secret garden in the middle of central London. Me & my boyfriend took sandwich's and a coffee, and enjoyed our lunch peacefully in the gorgeous surroundings. This Church was turned into a garden when it was bombed in World War 2, it is well kept and has won many awards. It was extremely quiet (2 other small groups of visitors on a Saturday at 13:30), so the perfect place to relax outdoors after a busy morning of sight seeing!
M. G.
Really nice little spot in the city. Wasn't busy when I went.
K. J.
Beautiful spot in London. Can get very busy but when its quiet its a lovely spot to chill.
D. D.
This medieval ruined church is a real hidden gem. The church was severely damaged in the Blitz and has now been turned in to a unique public garden. It's a tranquil place which is perfect to escape the busy streets of London. It's perfect for a quick walk around or a sit down with a book or some food.
S. S.
Love the Halloween vibes there. Perfection.
L. B.
It's a good place for photo shooting sessions. The gothic architecture of the remaining building looks like it is from a fantasy movie and the combination with the botanical elements it gives a luxury influence.
H. B.
OMG this was one of the coolest things I got to see during my trip to Europe. It is definitely out of the way, but for someone looking for interesting and nontraditional spots Saint Dunstan's was perfect. A quiet and peaceful garden for various people to come read or hangout. Or if you're one of the myriad of teenagers/tourists, take some lovely pictures.
Its located near a business district in London, but isn't far from other cool stuff like the Ledenhall market, where they shot the Diagon Alley scenes for the first Harry Potter movie.
D. G.
Quaint spot in the middle of the city. A visit is highly recommended
R. P.
Beautiful gardens in the heart of the city of London, hidden between the modern skyscrapers.
Perfect for its tranquility to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy area
S. N.
Beautiful church ruins and lovely well kept garden. Plenty of benches to enjoy this tranquil city oasis
Z. M.
stunning place with lovely ambiance would definitely recommend for a relaxing day out !
S. S.
Really beautiful spot in the middle of the city. Really beautiful spot.
G. G.
A beautiful hidden gem in the centre of London. A wonderful ruined church with Palm trees and a water feature to eat your lunch by.
s. f.
Stunning....a little oasis in the middle of the city. Great for lunch, lots of benches to sit on.
D. L.
Beautiful and extremely peaceful, visit early in the morning to enjoy it when it’s quiet!
L. A.
Wow. Took me by surprise this one. Went with the wife and kids when we was down on a London trip. Was a really nice day so made it all the better seeing this landmark but I'm also sure it's nice on other days to (maybe not when it's raining) defo place to go visit if your around that area some really lovely parts to photograph if your into that, many people go to sit there to have lunch that must work round. building is great to photograph and on a nice day can get some awesome shots.
S. A.
Lovely garden to relax in, closes at dusk though so in the winter that means 4pm or earlier!
N. H.
Absolutely beautiful place. Some people may tell you this is a place of peace and quiet in the midst of the hustle and bustle of London, but this is not fully true. While you can definitely get a bit of peace here, it is still NOT quiet, and how would it be. Still one of the better places for a nice break from the city, in the city.
Y.
Walked through this gem, stunning ruins!
M. W.
Beautiful and small garden tucked right near London Bridge, but feels worlds away from the busy streets nearby. Lots of photographers here, so come early!
R. N.
Beautiful, peaceful ruin in the city that gets very busy as it's a great spot for a photo opportunity. I recommend going in the morning or just before close. I wanted to know if the tower was inhabited as it would be a great place to live.
D. M.
No longer the escape it was... To well known
D. H.
Beautiful oasis in the heart of the city.
Well worth a visit.
M. V.
Very nice place. Hidden secret. Sometimes there is nobody, and sometimes there is large tourists groups.
A. N.
Quiet small garden area in the middle of a bustling city. Good escape to have a quick take away lunch.
D. o. L.
Great place to sit and have a quiet lunch break
w. “.
The calm in the eye of the storm. A blissful escape from the madness of the surrounding streets. Everyone is quiet and respectful. The fountain wasn't working on my last visit, which was a pity.
J. M.
Must be even nicer in spring but on a chilly sunny day it was a nice spot for new London pictures

St. Dunstan is a secret oasis in the middle of the City of London.
Once you find it, you'll immediately appreciate the tranquility, serenity and beauty of this once majestic church that was built more than 500 years ago, and has survived(ish!) the Great Fire of London and The Blitz. There are benches to sit on to relax and admire the place. The foliage that has wrapped itself around the walls adds vibrancy and colour.
It's a hidden gem in London. If you're in the City and want to escape the the hustle-and-bustle of London, or if you're looking to get a cracking shot for Instagram, then St. Dunstan is your destination
G. L.
A peaceful hidden spot. Great for a refresh amidst history and nature.
K. G.
We love it here, it is halfway between our offices so we like to have little lunch dates here
M. M.
Calm amd peaceful. Good place for some photography as well
S. L.
The church originally built in about 1100 was largely destroyed in the Second World War and the ruins are now a public garden.
It was first damaged in the Great Fire of London in 1666.
Rather than being completely rebuilt, the damaged church was patched up between 1668 and 1671.
A gothic style steeple was added in 1695–1701 to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren.
The church was severely damaged in the Blitz of 1941.
Wren's tower and steeple survived the bombs' impact.
In the re-organisation of the Anglican Church in London following the War it was decided not to rebuild St Dunstan's, and in 1967 the City of London Corporation decided to turn the ruins of the church into a public garden, which opened in 1971.
A lawn and trees were planted in the ruins, with a low fountain in the middle of the nave.

Nice and calm green space to sit and reflect amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. Ideal for instagrammers I would imagine. Not so great for getting around with a pram etc but some lovely architecture, takes 3 mins to walk completely around before returning to the mad rush. About a 15 minute walk from Tower Hill Station etc
P. W.
Beautiful and peaceful. Well worth a visit. Seems a million miles from the big city.
A. G.
Hidden gem in the city. Pleasant gardens set in the ruins of a church.
S. L. R.
Nice, beautiful and quiet spot in the middle of London.
Q. G. B.
Gorgeous square - real hidden gem of The City. Feels very magical and not overly busy even on a bank holiday
A. G.
Lovely spot in the middle of the city to take a break, some photos or drawing.
It's a little Gothic style church garden with Lots of green and flowers.
There are benches to sit.
S. V.
A calm oasis, definitely worth a visit if passing by.
A. R. K.
Beautiful garden! Such a lovely green oasis in the middle of dense building block. Great place to enjoy the view and take beautiful photographs.
M. S.
I didn't have the opportunity to go inside, I just know I had a very disappointing day of site seeing, and then I found this!! I went to Kew and got lost and gave up. I went to Chelsea Physic and it was CLOSED, and then just wandering around I came across this garden, and it just filled me with so much gratitude, I'm not sure how to express it. It was just what I needed, just when I needed it. It was a huge blessing, just gorgeous!!!
J. J.
Super quirky lovely place to visit, well worth
V. B.
An amazingly beautiful place almost like from the movies about Indiana Jones or video games.
A. S.
This ancient ruined church it's a beautiful place where take pictures and video. It's a magic experience to do! Here you can breath really the old atmosphere of London.
K. R.
An Oasis of calm in the city. A dilapidated church converted into a garden. Not great but still good
K. C.
This ruin is a lovely place to sit and take a rest in the bustle of London, it’s right by the river and is very easy to access.
S. G.
Unique garden within the ruins of an originally Saxon church, modified by C. Wren.
One of the wonderful things about London is all the "green" space in a big city, globally unique, and this is certainly no exception, conven located near the River Thames.
Come here to relax, escape the hubbub of the city, and watch all those wedding photographers practice their art!
Now managed by Corporation of London (I believe?), garden closing time depends on seasons. But I might just bring my tent!
D. H.
An oasis in the middle of a busy area. Its history is fascinating. It's a lovely place to just go sit and enjoy the lovely plants.
L. M.
Beautiful - and unusual - garden in London. One of Wren's beautiful cathedrals, partially destroyed during the Blitz and turned into the peaceful park it is today. I enjoy reading and resting in this park on sunny days.
I. G.
Interesting small site in the city. Lovely place to sit with a coffee and great contrast to the skyscrapers around it. I would recommend the morning over the evening if you're looking for sunny photos!
E. I.
Found this "secret" garden loveley decorated by mistake. Once a church now the inside is in open air, and has many benches sorrounding a small fountain.
C. C.
Lovely place to sit and relax in the city of London. Could have done without the 'model' with the revealing 'outfit' posing for a video/photo shoot all afternoon.
A.
A serene spot in the middle of a bustling city. We went there around 6-ish in the evening so I think the view is better in the mornings. Good for inexpensive romantic dates, too.
Downside is, the smell of marijuana was in the air before we left the ruins. I haven't seen any security or guardians when we were in there so anything can happen? To be fair we only stayed there for short while so I'm not totally sure.
F. A.
Beautiful hidden gem. Even more lovelier in the sunshine.
R. K.
Amazing ancient ruins in the heart of London
К. Я.
This one felt like you are a part of a really old movie. I can't believe there are such places in London - like time hasn't touched it at all. It's one of those hidden gems in the big city.
E. W.
Beautiful spot to take pics and then go for a wander around London. It was fairly busy with people doing shoots, even during covid times!
L. B.
Remains of a church with vines and ivy allowed to grow through the arches, grab a coffee and snack from nearby and choose one of the many benches in this little oasis away from the high rise buildings
A. R.
Such a cool place!! Has a very Lord of the rings feel to it. A quiet place in the middle of the city. It's a shame it isn't bigger!
r. d.
Very pleasant little hidden treasure, tranquil and pretty.
Vines and creepers drape over the church ruins and the ground foliage is nice.
Glad we found it.
T. B.
1st time we visited this beautiful building. Never knew it was just around the corner from Tower Hill. Stunning. Ideal for a photo shoot
I. S.
Beautiful ruins in the middle of tall skyscrapers
M. L.
Lovely park, centrally located. Can get busy at times with people taking photos but still pretty peaceful.
T. L. n.
Beautiful. Really interesting place to visit, but don’t allocate much time there as there’s not loads to see! Worth a trip though...
A. M.
What a beautiful, peaceful place, it's like an oasis in the middle of the city. The church suffered great damage during the blitz and was converted into a garden.
a. w.
So often going to places you have wanted to see for a while can be underwhelming. Not here. Amongst the tower blocks of the financial part of London and close to outbreak of the Fire of London lies a place of quiet and tranquility to sit and be. Really enjoyed it
G. B.
Beautiful little oasis in the heart of London. It can so easily be overlooked
D. L. M.
Phenomenally beautiful.....such a worthwhile showcase of London.....beautiful gems lying hidden in side streets with modern towers looming overhead
K. P.
One of the most beautiful places in the city of London, we’ll hidden and peaceful. Full of instagrammers now though...
K. G.
Really calm and beautiful park right in middle of a bustling city.
S. B.
Sometimes Gems are hidden. And this place certainly is. Yes it’s well known, and yes it’s an easy find on ‘things to do’. But many take a pass, subdued by the bigger attractions close by. And for one I am thankful, because it never seems overwhelmed with queues or photo snatchers.
b. g.
Stumbled across this lovely place whilst on our stroll of London...such a pretty place...bride&groom having their wedding pics done there 😁👍
T. S.
Quaint hidden church in the midst of many modern buildings. It's a nice place to walk around and think. During lockdown it seems that many people have the same idea and decide to read or have a picnic. I imagine that in the morning there are some pretty great photographs to be taken.
L. H.
Beautiful place for photos or peaceful place to have a break from the office.
В. Б.
Peaceful location, very clean and kind of isolated of the rest of the city. The beautiful combination between the architecture and the plants it is just impresionant, it is like a scene of SF movie.
p. k.
A peaceful place and perfect for beautiful photos
J. B.
Beautiful enclosed garden in an ancient church nearly 1000 years old with more 'modern' renovations from the 1600s / 1800s. Stunning quiet place in the city. Note opening hours to avoid disappointment!
M. V.
This place is magical. The perfect respite in a loud, fast city.
A.
Lovely quiet place to have lunch or simply just recharge your batteries 😊
T. V. C.
A piece of quiet in a busy city
A. S.
Beautiful old church garden. Made in the bombed out shell of a church which got hit during the blitz. A small hidden bit of history that should be visited, bring a coffee and contemplate the time in this quiet space.
C. B.
A lovely place even in the rain to get away from the crowds.
D.
It was described by the Time Out as a 'hidden gem'; however, I couldn't find a place to sit and have my lunch or a not very warm day so probably it is not a secret anymore; however, it is worth a visit if you are in the City.
K. T.
A great place to relax and think .. in the heart of the city.
The church of St. Dunstan In The East stood on this side from ancient times. Sir Christopher Wren rebuilt the church after The Great Fire of 1666 and the only part of his design which servives is the tower. The remainder of the church was rebuilt in 1817 and destroyed by enemy action in 1941.
M. R.
Pretty much well described by other reviewers but this is perfect for quiet contemplation.
C. R.
Lovely, romantic and evergreen corner in the city. I just love visiting it!
C. R.
A quiet little holy space, which visitors seemed to enter tentatively, looking about curiously & gently.

This beautiful garden now occupies the grounds of a grade I listed 12th century old church, destroyed in the Great Fire of London. The walls and the tower still stand. …

Nice place. The medieval age near the city
D. Z.
A unique spot in the city to relax and enjoy the nature

Christopher Wren church, damaged in the Blitz and now a public park
R. S.
Instagramamable place.. that's its both plus and minus.. there will always be some photoshoots happening and u have to wait in queue to take pics in prime locations
B. C.
This bombed out church from World War 2 still has its walls standing but nature has taken over the rest. Nice respite in the big city. Few tourists, but great little stop for the offbeat historian.
T. H.
Serene little oasis of calm amidst the chaos of London, where medieval architecture meets nature and each juxtapose the modernity and urban gloss of the surrounding area. Come here for a moment of mindfulness to replenish your soul between meetings.
K. Y. L. (.
Decent hidden photo spot in heart of London. Not much to do apart from that though. Can always pop to near by spitalfield market for food and shopping after.
G. E.
Looked beautiful from the outside. Suggestion, they should update their google page for the hours so that future visitors arrive when it’s actually open.
L. A.
Place looks better when there are much people Round. I was there around 5pm and it have many people there. All wanted to take pics and the place is very small. I wanted to take more pictures on my camera but couldn't since there was too may people in the way. I suggest you guys to go there in the mornings While the sun is out and shining. But really nice place for pictures. Saw a beautifull bride getting her pictures taken.

Looking for peace and tranquility in the busy city then go here. Soak the sun and enjoy your coffee n sandwich on a bench!
Look around, apparently people get married here too!
Old church but now just has remains but mind you pretty remains.
So pretty and wild. Small garden but a perfect escape.
I would love to sit n read a book here or maybe just write my journal.
Surrounded by offices I am sure in a non lockdown world the garden would be crowded but for now if you are looking for a slow time then do visit this hidden gem!
Surprisingly not a lot of people know about this church garden.
If you are photographer bring your camera and photograph the structure. If you are not then you will become one!
T. A.
A little underwhelming in size however, there's a fair amount of benches that make a wicked chilling space. Definitely looking forward to summer. Nature and that init lol
A. G.
It’s ... fine? I don’t know what I was expecting but was a bit underwhelmed. It was quite busy with people taking their Instagram pics and I don’t think it’s that big?
I’m sure it’s a lot nicer in summer when everything’s in bloom but just felt a bit drab. Worth the visit but maybe just a quick stop off on a walk down the Thames or something...
D. G.
a relaxing place. Hide from tourist that they dont know. The only problem is that there smeel bad, when I was.
D. H.

Wonderful place, looks like a dream. I took amazing pictures, it feels like being in another century or in a fairytale. I long to go there again soon!
D. S.
Interesting place to visit. Not very big but fascinating
M. L.
It's a great garden. It used to be a church that was bombed during the second world war. It's an amazing place to go and enjoy a read, a lunch or a picnic. As any temple, what it's left of it, combined with trees brings a lot of peace. It's a place that reminds us the power of war and destruction, and brings us the legacy of it. Even if a bomb is falling a tree will grow afterwards.
S. P.
Relaxing place for quiet outdoor lunch on the bench... amidst nature.
D. H.
A beautiful quiet haven in the middle of the buzzing London. Come be still :)
C. M.
Small church ruins tucked away in the City of London. The church was destroyed by a WWII bomb and now stands in ruins with nature gradually encroaching.
Worth a visit if you're passing near by and have a few minutes to spare.
M. E. Y.
A real hidden gem in the middle of the city center. It is one of my favourite places for a peaceful experience. These photos are from October. Especially during lockdown, take your take away coffee and definitely visit here!

Relaxing, beautiful garden inside the ruins of the church. There are several benches and a small fountain, a great place to chill. The gardens are well maintained.

This is such a beautiful, quiet place in the midst of this busy city. We stumbled upon this gem the first time we were here; we weren’t quite lost, but almost. Like others have said, this is a great place to snap a photo.
M. s.
Very pretty and quiet but the Energy is off. There's something sinister that I can't quite place but it's there, just under the surface.
D. B.
Beautiful little garden. Lots of variety with the ruined church in the centre making for an excellent backdrop in amongst the high rise.

The best hidden place in the central London..... Good for photoshoot and also a romantic place for couples..... People can't even imagine that this place exist just between all the luxurious towers around it
p. t.
If you can find it, you will of found a great photo opportunity.
A. M.
Hauntingly beautiful. Much smaller then I had originally thought and a little bit hidden. Wonderful spot for an afternoon break.
L. S.
A nice little garden to have a two minute walk or to sit down and eat lunch on a bench. A fair bit of character but just like my example a lot of the allure of the place probably comes from clever photography.
a. m.
Great locations for.photographers shame the tourist know about this place as it gets busy
D. B.
Amazing and quiet park. It's so close to the city.
A. S.
Quiet place for reflection. Nice bit of history.

Something gothic and something romantic. Both peaceful and somehow sad. Truly a beautiful site to wander around. Entry is free.
C. B.
Lovely gardens inside the ruins of St Duncan's church. It was sunny day and this was a little green oasis in the built up city, near to the fire of London Memorial
I. C.
Loved this place! It's quite a unique destination in London. Perfect for relaxing a bit in the summer as there are lots of shades here. The view is also aesthetically pleasing. There were a few of people when I came here, and not too crowded. So it's a great place to come here once in a whole to read a book or so.
J. Z.
It's pretty and it's hidden away... Its abit small but I like it... Oh so it becomes a popular area for people to take pictures, avoid lunch time as its popular during that time go in the morning I am sure there is a beautiful spooky feel to it.
F. D.
Lovely hidden spot in an otherwise busy part of London. It is dog friendly but you must keep dogs on lead.

Amazing place to rest and chill out, garden not the ruins of the former church
S. W.
Gorgeous hidden gem and lovely spot to hide from the bustle of the city for a moment.
D. A.
Has been one of my favourite spots for the last ten years. Has become quite crowded. This is to be expected when hidden gems become not so hidden
S. D.
One of the most beautiful spots in London. Hands down.
S. R.
Quiet space in the middle of town, the trees and plants have grown up over the walls of the church and there are a circle of benches in the centre to sit down. Some very nice photo opportunities with the vines growing over the walls and a palm tree growing in a protected corner. Worth a 30 min detour
N. E.
Quiet place in the middle of the big city life. Loved our visit, it's unique and a beautiful place. It's perfect how they made it into a public garden between the resting pieces of the building. If I would live in London, I would certainly visit this place a lot more!
h. c.
Very peaceful, away from everything and everyone else

K. W.
Beautiful unexpected quiet spot in the city. It is a jewel even in the winter months.
H. E.
A tiny, beautiful, peace sanctuary in the heart of London.
C. A. M.
This garden is a great experience. In the middle of the "urban jungle", and built in and around the ruins of a church that was damaged by bombs in World War II, the entire space is united by a path that takes you through the church, outside again, around the tower, and back where you started, with varied and lush plantings throughout. There is a very low and calmly gurgling fountain with seating around it that allows a perfect perch for rest and reflection. The many levels and recesses allow you to place yourself in the space and find privacy while others share the space with you. You are in constant touch with nature, the sky, and architecture, both in the form of the church ruins and the buildings around you. Very lovely intervention.
Z. B.
Amazing little hidden spot in the middle of London
M. C.
Little piece of even, quiet, ideal for taking a break!

Fascinating little ancient church with collapsed roof, which has become a pleasant garden and communal area in the middle of a busy area

Tranquility, reflection and calm, within a garden made from the interior of a beautiful Wren church shattered during the Blitz.

It is very small but impressive. It is really suitable for taking pictures specially in summer
S.
An oasis in the middle of the city. Beautiful planting and picturesque ruins. On fine days it gets really busy at lunch times. There are plenty of benches though and, if you bring something to sit on, there are grassy areas too. Plenty of shops nearby to find something to eat.
V. T. P.
Amazing place.
J. B.
This such a hidden gem in London! Definitely worth a visit if on a walk nearby! Sit here with a friend and just enjoy the ambience of this beautiful place!
S. A. F.
A quiet spot to take stock and rest

Nice little spot for some photos.
L. C.
Truly a hidden gem from the center of busy London, a small little park serrounded by the ruins of a church.
There are benches, a small fountain and quietness. A very good spot to catch your breath while exploring London or just to relax after a busy day.
The path heading to the church is easy to miss.
M. H.

d. s.
A hidden gem that should not be missed. A lovely squirel lives there and he may take a selfie with you if you offer him fresh nuts😁
G. J.
Simply amazing. It's situated near the monument in the heart of London. So you won't spend any extra time to visit it. It is amazing how proudly it stands surrounded by all those monumental buildings. Nice place to visit and to rest your eyes. Definitely my recommendation.
B. W.
Beautiful little oasis of tranquility in the city. Old burned down and bombed out church which has been given back to nature, with a spire designed by Christopher Wren. Only a stones throw from the Tower, Monument, London bridge, the Walkie Talkie - so no excuse not to pass by here and sit down for five minutes to enjoy the scenery while exploring the City!
J. S.
Aesthetically pleasing grade 1 listed architecture by Christopher Wren now open to the elements and turned into a tranquil garden. Walls with pillars and arches, spire and steeple, arched windows and doorways festooned with leaves. Great place to sketch and photograph. Or just sit and chill. One of London's hidden gems!
In close proximity to Old Billingsgate Market, Great Fire of London Monument, Philpot Lane Mice Sculpture, The River Thames and London Bridge.
Nearest station is Monument.
M. S.
Such a cute place! A quite area in central London. Loved the big magnolia tree!
A. C.
This hidden gem is an ideal lunch spot if you work near by and worth making the effort to visit if not. The church itself has been damaged during the great fire of London and then it was bombed during the second world war. Now the ruins have been transformed to one of the most beautiful & well maintained gardens in London. Surprisingly, this small slice of tranquility is usually empty but even when there is a small crowd it is very quiet which makes it a perfect spot to relax.
C. L.
An oasis of tranquillity in a busy city. An almost timeless atmosphere. Small, but well worth a visit if you are in the area.....
J. P.
This hidden gem is an ideal lunch spot if you work near by and worth making the effort to visit if not. The ruins themselves have seen and weathered major events in London's history, having been damaged during The Great Fire of London and the Blitz. Now a beautiful and well kept garden, this is a small slice of tranquility in the middle of the madness of the City.
G. T.
Lovely hidden gem, great place to relax and eat lunch, take in the surroundings, take some photos etc. Gets a bit busy with photographers but hey.

Beautiful place and great photography spot !

This is a lovely place to visit - a tiny green oasis surrounded by tall city buildings. I would imagine on a weekday lunchtime it's a fabulous place to sit and have your lunch and read a book. I went on a sunny Sunday afternoon and it was awash with groups doing photoshoots, which I found quite annoying: there were parts I couldn't go near because of models standing being photographed, and lighting set-ups in the way. This was all the more annoying as I had gone there myself to try and photograph the building itself! I imagine this place is amazingly atmospheric on a frosty morning.

I feel a little guilty reviewing it, because I worry about it become too crowded!
This is one of my favourite places in London. It's beautiful and peaceful, and a reminder that beauty can be found even amongst destruction.

Beautiful piece of history in the centre of London. Great place for a photo shoot.

Gorgeous small park in the middle of the city, it presents a different way of enjoying a bit of history.

Love this little place of peace and silence near the London Monument. Practically rhere are only the walls of former church and surrounding buildings, left after the war raids and bombings. Here you can have a chat near the little fountain or spent your time in one of the cosy places, surrounded by local greenery and trees. This place is liked by the office-workers and by the tourists, especially during nice weather, as it is roof-less!

Magical hidden gem 😍

Amazingly quiet little space in the City. You could easily miss it. Popular with Instagrammers due to the architecture. Benches for relaxing on.

Nice old church. Interesting history.

Beautiful little garden and even while being so close to the Tower of London it's very well hidden and without a lot of tourists. I love the ruin-like looks and that it's also green and beautiful in the end of December. Best place to visit on your way from Tower Bridge to St. Paul's.

Full of brides, so if you are patient enough you can squeeze in a good shot.

Even though, this place is literally in the middle of other buildings, it feels like a different place. Very calm and probably a cool movie / shooting location.

My youngest found it on TikTok!! She asked to go, so where else when you have an Inset day off school and you've been taken in to work for the morning and only a few hours before usual after school activity?! With a sketch book, paints and a sushi lunch we had a perfectly peaceful lunchtime being soothed by the babbling water feature and dappled sun on the remaining walls. Voices remained hushed and respectful of the quietude - wonderful. I hope it stays that way

The church was originally built in about 1100. It was largely destroyed in the Second World War and the ruins are now an amazing public garden. It's a small treasure in the heart of the city of London and it's a great location to escape from the ordinary busy London life. The garden represent a great location for pictures and movies.

This was such an amazing find! Beautiful small gardens inside the walls of a church ruin. Grass, benches and lovely plants explode out of the box to create a secret hideaway perfect in busy London. Such an interesting, unexpected view both inwards and outwards.

This is my refuge when I need to escape from the chaos of London during my lunch time. Looks like an oasis in the middle of the cloud of pollution surrounding the city.

Nice place when it's quiet but full of people wanting to take photos of themselves and others for their Instagram, which slightly puts me off coming back. Otherwise, a tranquil little hideout!

Lovely place, its like a little part of heaven.

Peaceful church with great history surviving the great fire of London.

London is full of charming secret spots and this is one of them. What was once an ancient church, first destroyed in the Great Fire, then rebuilt and destroyed again in the War, is now a quiet and somewhat eerie garden growing out of and around the skeleton of that building. It's a peaceful place and well worth a visit for its interesting history....or just to get away from the usual touristy spots. Seek it out, you won't regret it!

What an oasis of calm in the big noisy city. It's like finding paradise hidden behind the city skyscrapers. Often go here at lunchtime to get away from the noise and concrete surroundings. I just love that the city of London corporation in its wisdom turned so many of these churches bombed during the war into public garden spaces. Fabulous. A must see.

Lovely lunch break location, calm away from the city. Gets a nice bit of sunshine too in the summer. Can get fairly busy but certainly not loud and I've never been unable to get a bench. One afternoon an Asian couple in full wedding regalia were taking photos of each other in the ruins, very romantic! Glad I was able to help them out with a shot of the two of them.

Lived in London for (too) many years before visiting this place on a Great Fire of London walk. A sanctuary of peace and beauty in the City. Small but perfectly formed. Very well kept grounds.

A nice, quiet place to go in the city. Very calm and beautiful, although there can be large groups of people hanging around and lots of photographers. It's quiet on the weekend as well which is a nice surprise for London.

One of my favourite tranquil places in London. So calming and peaceful amongst the hustle and bustle of the city!

Fabulous. I guess many people have just stumbled on this lovely quiet place but I found it on a list of London landmarks on Atlas Obscura. So it formed part of a little treasure hunt I set myself, and it was great fun to discover it. It's so close to the Tower of London and other places just heaving with tourists, but this is a quiet oasis.
If it's not obvious, this is a bombed church - I believe a Wren church - which has been turned into a garden. Paths and water features and sitting areas are all lovely. You don't know how close you are to main roads! I wish it had been possible to go into the tower, which was locked during my visit.

Truly Magical place in the Heart of London. It's almost unbelievable that surrounded by so many tourist attractions it's not getting more attention.
I've actually stumbled upon this place and enjoyed couple of minutes there sitting on a bench and looking at some blooming tree.
You can easily Google some facts about this place but it's not that easy to find.

This is an amazing location for a moment of quiet reflection or to take some beautiful photographs. I didn't expect the site to be as beautiful as it's pictures were online, so this was a very pleasant surprise. Highly recommend it as a stop when in the city.

Very nice quiet place kind of a little park surrounded by roofless church walls, especially enchanting in the summer
