Reviews of Whirled Cinema

We hosted our first event post LOCKDOWN at the Whirled Cinema. Amazing venue and the friendly staff made us all feel welcomed. Listen to LDP RADIO ldpradio.co.uk for our next event!

Never been to a cinema like this. Unique find and lovely atmosphere. The waitress was very friendly. Great service.
l. c.
Cosy venue ideal for a date night or to hire for private screenings. The cinema had friendly staff and a bar for drinks but didn't seem wheelchair friendly as it was upstairs.
H. G.
Attended for special event and loved it! Had an amazing time, the staff were fab and very friendly.

Gem of a place not far from Brixton market. Movies for kids every Saturday morning at a fraction of the standard price with the added bonus of a quirky relaxed venue. Totally worth a visit or ten!
L. C.
Excellent space. Went to see the Le BadMilk independent film screening. Great staff and will be going there again when they show something else good.

I went to see the "Premier" of a short film here as a stand in for my son. The venue is a little tricky to find as it is on a street that is not very well lit and is home to "lock up" businesses. There is no parking in the Street of the venue but you can get parking on the main road, which was okay for me with a blue badge. There is a bus that runs on the main road, past the access road to the venue, so public transport is available. There is no wheelchair access. The entrance opens to a fairly steep flight of iron stairs up to the viewing area. Not disabled friendly or for mothers with prams or very small children. No signs for the toilet. I do not know if they have disabled facilities. The venue is small and intimate with a small bar. They do not sell food. The bar staff were friendly and the venue clean. Although trains are passing overhead this did not detract from the filming. The lighting on the stairs could have been better as I nearly had a fall missing the final step on the way out!

What a fantastic hidden gem ! Complete with bar and balcony this is such a cute little cinema. Great sound and setting.

Went for a screening by the Orange Soda Film Club the event was fantastic but I need to focus on the venue. The cinema is up a narrow staircase & set into a railway arch so you can hear trains go above quite regularly which is louder than the audio in the cinema but doesn't ruin the experience. The seats are rows of long red, slightly cushioned benches which are relatively comfortable. There is a fully stocked bar with friendly bar staff and rustic but clean toilets. I definitely recommend the venue but it got a little chilly inside and there was a weird/bad food smell that wafted into the cinema about two-thirds of the way through the movie.

I privately hired the cinema on a Friday night for a birthday party. The owner Rob kindly set out a table so I could bring a cake and snacks. Also prior to my booking he met with me to ensure my movie played without any problems. I loved the place and everyone was impressed. I was a bit concerned about the location as it is tucked away in an alley, but at night time it lights up and the cinema itself is very secure ( two security doors).
I loved that there was a smoking area right by the bar so you don't have to leave the cinema to have a quick smoke.
Joe was great at the bar and ensured my night ran smoothly. Will definitely be booking again :)

Really cool dinky little independent cinema with a bar. Sound was good and the screen was fine. There's some noise from trains overhead but it didn't really bother me - it adds to the charm. I mean you're in urban London after all!
C. M.
Had my first film club at Whirled Cinema and i had an amazing time! The bar staff were really helpful and nice and engaging with the film which was great! Toilets are decent and the garden area is nice for pre and post film drinks and talks. Cant wait to hold another event there.
P. S.
A wonderful space for hire and a great team running it!
A. R.
Had a cousin's party that was hosted at the venue. What a lovely little place! Not huge, but offers a nice sized personal space with a roof terrace for smoking. Reasonably priced and really friendly staff.
J. D.
Really great little cinema with a good atmosphere. Has a bar at the back of the room, with a little smoking balcony behind it. The projection quality is not the best and you do get the sound of trains going by every 15mins, but these are forgivable for the comfort and charm of the place.
V. C.
Lovely place, lovely people. (Just missing salted popcorn) 🎥
T. E. G.
Great venue when you first find it. Not easy to find at all, but a lovely atmosphere when you get there. Great for movie watching and a bar at the back. Would recommend!
S. D.
This is a really cute independent cinema tucked away under some railway arches. Initially I was a bit dubious about the location; it's a bit of a pain to get back from so make sure you have travel plans before you start on the cocktails, which are amazing so you'll end up having at least five. I genuinely enjoyed the 'hidden' aspect about this place, and expected it to be ridiculously busy – it wasn't, and seems to be relatively undiscovered. Get there quick before everyone else finds out about it.
M. D.
Both Mike and Rob were absolutely fantastic to work with. The cinema has a great atmosphere, staff is lovely and helpful. Everyone really enjoyed the event we held there. Thank you!
D. C.
Great local cinema with a carefully curated programme of films. There's a bar at the back of the small auditorium and a smoking terrace outside. You can also order pizzas from the pizzeria next door, which are some of the best in the local area - if not South London.
The ONE negative is that the seating is something akin to a medieval torture rack - my back is still sore after watching a film there last night.
A. R.
You can rent this place out for the evening. It's the perfect option for a birthday party because you can choose the film you watch and have a bar open all night with staff. Good fun!
B. T.
I often cringe at the thought of cult like establishments and regulars only vibes, but Whirled totally rejects that idea and we were left extremely satisfied with the chilled and friendly atmosphere. Such a good place for Londoners. Get yourself, or a friend, membership - it’s worth it!
L. R.
My Bestie An I loved it. We watched Set it off fr the 90s Brilliant. Lovely little Bar they had and we we're given free popcorn all night and and a unlimited amount of sweets Absolutely loved it I love forwards to the next one
L. R.
Ooh Woow what a fantastic Evening. Brilliant Blast from the past. Set It Off the movie. The 2 ladies that Hosted Apsolutly lovely attentive. They came around through out the film to offer you more free popcorn and sweets. I had a fantastic Time and would 1000% recommend this evening to all peeps who love a great movie and great vibes. Lovely experience. I will definatley be going again.
K. M.
I love it - a small little cinema to hire - very open minded - good little bar and good chillout area. This was so good. Helped that it was such a great time with good friends.
N. M.
Cool underground cinema which shows mainly arthouse films and documentaries. Really nice atmosphere here with quite a lot of space but an average screen. Has a bar which serves, snacks and nibbles and 'posh' popcorn.
M. B.
Cinema, with great space to host small to medium sized events (approx. 80-100 standing, less sitting). Acoustics are great too, well worth the visit.
M. M.
Great one screen independent cinema under the railway arches with great selection of British and international films. Films change weekly and have one daily screening Tue thru to Fri and on Sun. There is often a documentary screening, usually on Mondays. Cinema is also available for private hire. There is a well stocked bar and you have the option to order in pizza. You can become an annual member and watch all the films for free or purchase a one off membership online to watch a specific screening. Fantastic place with a relaxed friendly vibe 15mins away from Brixton.
M. C.
Unusual venue for a cinema, but the combination with the bar at the back works well.
The only oddity was the barman (aka the owner of the cinema) coming to shut us up. I see how chatty people could be a problem for more indie cinema type (more or less the case ). However, this time the movie was Django and noisy laughter was part of the show.
C. R.
It is a great place for small event or party. Really enjoyed attending my friend spoken word show and after party. Great bar staff.
A. F. C.
It is a very charming cinema, there is a bar at the back so you can order drinks and enjoy a movie. The location is a bit weird to get to, but once you know where it is, it's quite a nice place .
M. H.
Lovely intimate venue, decent but pricey (£5 pint) beers on tap. Friendly staff, old school feel, decent toilets!
I. C.
I watched I, Daniel Blake here. They always show wonderful and often unique films that you might not get to see at a mainstream cinema. A lovely community atmosphere as well
T. N.
Top screenings, top staff, top food, top service. Love the fact they have days were it's cheaper for students too, it's also less busy and nice little evening out
P. J.
Cinema had buzzing sound which may not have been the fault of the premises but also had frequent distracting sounds from overhead as trains passed. Facility was excellent otherwise.
D. S.
Cool space and quite reasonably priced. Entrance is down a dark alley hence the knocked off star. Staff were very friendly
S. R.
Hidden little cinema with brick walls, a nice little bar, great atmosphere and cheap annual membership. Small and lovely, one more proof that the size doesn't count ;)
S. J.
Went for an event rather than a film. Lovely venue with an industrial but cosy feel however quite expensive (drinks and hiring) and very difficult to find!
R. P.
I can't recommend this place enough. If you love films but hate almost every aspect of the modern Odeon/UCI etc experience, you should check this out for some nostalgia of how cool going to a cinema used to be.
A. C.
An always interesting and engaging selection of art house and world cinema with a scattering of new releases. Good selection of local bottled beers.
J. J.
Perfect little neighbourhood cinema, showing 1 film per week, some of which you meant to see but never got around to, and some you'd have never thought of seeing.
K. M.
I love this place so cute and stylish staff are friendly great place to hold events highly recommend
I. W.

T. B.
What a great space! Went to a birthday party here where the space was hired privately. Very atmospheric and cool.
D. S.
Nice place all staff are nice too- just lacking a sound man engineer to deal with cut outs also need to fix tooth over djs head as rain will damage the equipment.
M. G.
Really great, rented it for a birthday party and did definitely not regret it. Would really recommend.
L. M.
A lovely hidden gem of a cinema with great value tickets, a fantastically varied programme and welcoming atmosphere! Worth a visit!
A. F.
Whirled, with its brilliant programme, has brought together creative people, film buffs, families and friends in a way that no other place has done in Loughborough junction. Hurray for Whirled!
T. R.
Really cool venue, and was great for the party we went to. Not sure about the unisex toilets though!!!
P. P.
I love this place. Is really difficult to find a cinema like that. You need to book in advanced because they have a small capacity of people.
