Nothing on TV?
Check the star and shadows listings and find what you should be watching.
Get your mates to come and you can chew the fat at Geisha afterwards.

If you want to have a unique cultural experience in Newcastle upon Tyne, then be sure to visit the Star and Shadow Cinema... It's not just a cinema, but a venue that is home to so many interesting and much-needed projects ran by all sorts of volunteers here in the heart of the toon.
Whether its a club night, a cafe, a cinema, a library or a chill space you are looking for... The Star and Shadow Cinema has it all! 🙂

Cool indie cinema and events space with cafe, markets, art and all sorts going on. We're lucky to have it just down the street, and it's definitely worth a visit.

Great live music venue run by volunteers. Good sound. Nice space. Tasty beers. They do meat free food too. This gig was Rose Mcdowall .

A super-atmospheric cinema close to home. I really enjoy visiting this place.

Good cinema, helpful staff. I think all staff volunteer so it is a labour of love here, a lot of passion and energy goes into this cinema and you can tell. Also put gigs on. Parking is available for bands, park outside , load in and then park the van/car around the back in private car park. Good venue, with decent sound. Have backline, or did when I visited. Cinema has comfy seats and decent sound. Toilets clean. Overall 5/5 nice one.

An incredible place to go on an evening. Run by volunteers. Just been to a folk gig. Loved it. The place is covered in Art and the staff are wonderful. Just get the drinks sorted out. Would have been five if they had a decent selection of drink.

What an amazing achievement this place is! Entirely created and run by volunteers, they have turned a derelict carpet showroom into a fully functioning arts and community centre with a performance space, cafe and cinema. I went to a party there the other day and was shown round. I was amazed at what they have done.
If you live in the area, get down there and support them, they deserve it

A volunteer run collective, DIY, cinema space for the whole community. Known throughout the world. One of the most important places in the UK.

Super cool little place, fully volunteer ran and as such has a suitably awesome vibe. Definitely would recommend going, especially if you'd be willing to chip in a bit of your time to a fully accessible, volunteer ran cinema/music venue/art gallery/cafe/bar :D

Very busy, great stall's. Bought jam's, bread and chutney. Fabulous vibes about the place. Met with a lot of ex Hotspur parents and children, and quite a few present pupils and parents. Great atmosphere.

Great locally run place with rustic and artist inside. Can see some great unusual cinema and artists. Good little bar and very comfy sofas inside the cinema. Would definitely go back!

Every time I've been here the volunteers have been friendly and the events are always interesting and well produced. The bar has a nice selection, haven't tried the cafe but if it's like the rest of the enterprise it should be good.

Without doubt the best place in the North East for ethically and community funded, volunteer-run arts, music and film, boasting a consistently interesting, diverse and affordable programme of events. The new bar and cafe aren't bad either! Long live the S&S V.2 and BRAVO!!

Beautiful venue. Amazing that it was put together by community volunteers. Shame about all the self aggrandising middle class vibes. Posters of communists on the walls (inexcusable), the usual spoken word drivel about how awful Tories are and how unenlightened everyone else in the country is, the usual.
I'd recommend the people that frequent there read Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell then take a long look in the mirror. Nothing has changed since 1938 it seems. Very judgemental atmosphere.
Could be a wonderful centre for the community but is basically just a political hub. (I'm apolitical fyi).

Great place with friendly people. Initiatives like this such be strongly supported by the local community!

Great little non-profit place. Our first visit. All 'staff' are volunteers. Welcoming and friendly venue, cool & unpretentious. Great vibe. Will definitely go back.

Fab DIY cinema. Informal, friendly and wonderfully chaotic.

You think The Tyneside Cinema is an indie gig? Bwahahah, I think you need to check this place out! A communal affair, where customers can help with the running of the cinema, best check out their website for full details, but this made the rounds and appeared in Total Film and Visit England's lists of top independent film houses.
