Reviews of Castle Ashby Gardens
L. B.
This place is absolutely beautiful! It's about £17 for a family of 4 but we could have spent all day here. We only looked at a small part today but there are beautifully kept walled gardens, huge orangeries that you can go in, an amazing river/ pond with some very friendly carp! There were animals including meerkats, marmaset monkeys and more, and even a children's play area. Everywhere was very clean and well looked after. We will absolutely be going here again, and exploring more it has to offer
K. S.
Lovely gardens, not the largest for a "day out".
Tea room was closed so can't comment on food or drink.
Reasonable play park for young kids upto 11 or so.
T. T.
The gardens are beautiful and the animal menagerie adds value to the £10 entry fee. The marmosets are curious little creatures, and the meerkats are not shy. There is a bird watching hut on on the far pond that offers fantastic views of the well stocked lake. Plenty of wildlife to spot and enjoy. Lunch was delicious, toasted panini with local ice cream.
D. B.
Beautiful gardens, lovely lunch, very nice staff and a great relaxing afternoon. There's a play area for the children, the only drawback is that there is only one set of toilets.
If you visit you should try the chips they are gorgeous 👍🏻
L. G.
We had a fantastic time within the gardens earlier this week, taking photos and enjoying the amazing scenery.
The bridge, the orangery, the perfectly manicured lawns are all such a beautiful elements and we look forward to visiting again one day as there was so much to see we didn't have time for it all.
Before our walk we enjoyed lunch in the tea rooms which was great and the staff where very helpful too. Highly recommend if you are in the Northamptonshire area to visit Castle Ashby Gardens. A hidden gem.
A. R.
Nice place to visit during spring and summer. During winter it's ok, but just ok. Rated 4 stars because the food amenities were shut down today the 30th of Jan. Would have been nice to have that on their webpage before be bought the tickets. We're hoping to lunch there , but .... couldn't
I. J.
Wonderful place! Nice walk and plenty things to see!
M. A.
This place has changed incredibly over the past 20 years which is probably when I went last. Great gardens with meerkats, pigs, tortoises and more, but disappointed with cafe closure. Then again who is going to pay £11 entry fee if the cafe reopens!. It's reduced by £4 at the moment which is actually ok. As the price goes up my stars will come down I'm afraid
D. K.
Love this place. The gardens are very well kept, the menagerie is brilliant with rabbits, tortoises, marmosets not to mention the cheeky meerkats! There is also a great cafe and children's play area, really worth a visit! And when you've spent 3 or 4 hours here chilling why not pop into the village to the rural shopping yard? Shops and two cafes await you 😃
P. S.
We had a lovely time. There are lovely gardens, a children's playground, places for a picnic and animals to visit. There is a cafe and ice creams.
It is disappointing that the Gardeners' World 2 4 1 card is no longer in operation.
L. R.
Very beautiful place. All are green and lovely arranged. A lot of benches and picnic/rest areas. Have inside garden flowers, fish ponds, fruit and veg garden, and some animals. As well have an outside kids playground near a tea cafe.
S. S.
Great place to enjoy nature, everything is so looked after and so pretty 🥰 There is loads of exotic trees and flowers, vegetables garden and even small zoo. Animals were adorable 😻
We had a pic-nick there, so we used gardens to its fullest 💃
s.
Well worth visiting. We've been during winter months, so you only have to pay for a parking, but it was an amazing walk. The surroundings are looked after very well. We've got to meet some nice animals like parrots, tortoises and parrots. It's great place for pictures and you can also access the small indoors place with plants and a pond.
Would be going back for a nice walk and will probably grab a coffee at the coffee shop.
N. P.
This is a great day out for the whole family. The gardens are expansive and there is a lot to see including the orangery, the bird and animal area, the butterfly garden (including loads of bees collecting their pollen), a play park, the lake along with lots of trees, plants and open spaces.
The main area that we enjoyed as a family of 5 (3 boys aged 12, 9 & 5) were the animals which includes meerkats, giant rabbits, giants tortoises, ponies and a variety of birds.
They also allow you to bring in your own picnic so we found a nice shaded spot (to hide from the 30+ degree heat) and sat and ate, and this also allowed the boys to run around and burn off some energy.
The gardens are lovely and picturesque and are the perfect place to take some nice family photos.
I'm recommending this as a place to visit and would advise you to allow yourself at least 3 hours, and more if you're going to picnic too.
E. M.
I had an issue with one of the ticket I’ve purchased, the problem was sorted promptly and mannerly.
We thoroughly enjoyed the walks in the gardens, overall very pleasant experience.
Thank you!
M. H.
What an amazing local get-away during lock-down. Tranquil and refreshing. Very well-planned gardens and footpaths. I definitely will visit again in all seasons!
N.
Wonderful location with beautiful grounds. Dog and children friendly! Can be a little muddy after rain so dress appropriately
C. W.
Really nice country manor and gardens. Cant go into the house as its the residence of the 7th Marquis of Northampton. However there is a nice play park for the kids and tea room (open in summer) there are nice garden to walk through, an Orangery and Menagerie.
All in all a nice day trip out.
Be advised car park meter is coin only!! (Need to upgrade to include card payment!)
A. M.
A lovely place to spend a few hours with the family, with your dog, to watch the kids play, nature watch, or even a peaceful walk by yourself. All very open with lots to see and do from fairy 🧚♀️ hunts, play parks, animals to coffee and cake. Wheelchairs and pushchair friendly. Very clean and tidy everywhere even the toilets 😀 the staff we met where really nice and friendly, and for £7 an adult a good price to pay
E.
Such a beautiful setting, always well kept and maintained. The staff are helpful, friendly and the entrance fee is reasonably priced for what is available. For my 2 children there is a nice play area, arboretum, ponds with fish to admire and live animals to point at and fuss over! It is a wonderful venue to come and spend a few hours, have a picnic and stretch our legs. Highly recommended and will be returning again soon
R. M.
A fantastic place to visit. Due to lockdown only the gardens were open but it was great. My dog loved it as much as I did.
E. G.
First visit today, used a 2 for 1 discount ticket so got in for £7, absolute bargain. What a great place, really well done, organised and staffed. Great coffee and cake, with quick excellent service. The gardens are terrific, especially the Arboretum. However most fun is to be found with the animals, the Meer cats, giant rabbits, marmosets and others. It is great value, for all ages and we are going again, you should too.

Just were there in late December. Castle is closed, but Gardens are opened for admission, free of charge actually. Only parking is £5 per car. Remember to bring one pound coins, as there is nowhere to change banknotes.
So there is an old church that can be visited. Very nice, old manor church, with a tomb of a crusader. Looks like the ones in Temple in London.
Also some tomb stones in the grave yard are exceptionally creative.
Gardens are very beautiful, well groomed. I had a feeling I am back to Italy as they look pretty authentic. Our child was exited to visit a tiny zoo on the grounds. There were parrots, colourful, very funny monkeys, a turtle and hilarious meerkat family.
Highly recommend to visit. Without visiting a castle it takes around 3 hours to see all garden, zoo, church.
P. U.
have been there more than once but know refreshments available cafe closed know drinks either big car park gardens are lovely
J.
Beautiful place. Lovely walks around the grounds. We especially liked seeing the meerkats and other animals. Lots of places to sit and have a picnic and a little play area for he kids too.
J. C.
Nice walks and enjoyable menagerie and lakes. Although really not impressed that in order to visit the tea room and use the facilities it is necessary to pay for access to the garden. Even to visit the garden centre!! Generally good gardens for wheelchair users although some areas have deeper gravel paths.
D. S.
Beautiful grounds, lots of mini adventures, fairy doors to hunt for, mini trails, great childrens play area, lovely small animal section and sooo many plants. well laid out. Great cafe prices too
M.
Love this place been so many times this year and took a real deep interest in all the different parts spending lots of time getting to know the plants and stunning trees intermittently my favorite part is the trees around the lake there is some beautiful specimens there and some real unusual trees . It's open during winter but make sure you take £5 for the parking as that is also your entrance fee as there is no shop or staff there
K. K.
Lovely day out, had a nice walk around the immaculate gardens, visited the animals, my nephew loved the marmosets and meerkats. Also had a lovely picnic in the grounds although there is a nice cafe there that I would like to try next time. The outdoor play area was also good. I think £7 fee per ticket for an adult is quite high although parking is free!
J. M.
Nice place for visitors of all ages, good food at the cafe. Plenty to see and do. It's well worth a visit.
l. b.
Great place to visit! Easy access and beautiful grounds, loved the animals
D. J.
Stunning building and beautiful gardens, visited late December so within winter opening hours and free entry, everything was open apart from the butterfly garden which looks like it's having planned refurbishment. just £5 per car pay & display. I would suggest to allow at least 3hrs to fully appreciate all of the different garden areas and walks. Will most definitely be returning in the summer months.
R. F.
Beautiful gardens, fabulous arboretum with rare specimen trees. Meerkats, spider monkeys and playground for the kids. Nice cafe, lovely scenery - a well hidden treasure.
M. H.
Very nice, well maintained gardens. Entry felt a little overpriced to me and it's a little disappointing when you can't get anywhere near the beautiful house. Food, drink and the children's play areas were great and didn't require an entry ticket. They don't allow children's bikes, scooter or balls in the garden.
K. L.
Beautiful grounds to walk around, with a small fee of £5 to park. Toilet facilities. Picnic areas and a cafe. Children's play park. Paths to walk on. Modest easy walk around the grounds with stunning views, animals - meerkats, rabbits, pigs, and birds. You can visit the church.
V. J.
Superb country house gardens to while away an couple of hours. Enjoy a cup of tea or a meal at the cafe . Some beautiful trees and flowers too dog friendly, costs £7.00 per adult at time of posting which is good value .
D. R.
Stunning views, flawless gardens, very accessible. The toilets were very neat and clean. Worth the ride!
N. B.
Lovely place for a walk. Beautiful grounds, a large variety of trees and flowers and a small selection of animals. On site cafe too.
E. R.
Fantastic place to visit, especially with children thanks to the zoo. Having just moved to the area I can't wait to go here more regularly.
J. M.
Really beautiful and simply gorgeous autumn colours. Easy to follow one way system around the arboretum.
M. A.
Lovely place and gardens. Check opening times as depending on the time of year, not all facilities may be be open. They have a pretty cool menagerie too!
D. S.
Beautiful gardens. Great place for picnics with the kids or just eat in the coffee shop. Coffee shop food is excellent. Good children's play area. Toilets are at the entrance so go before you enter the gardens. There is a small managerie with meerkats, pig's, goat, birds etc and good facilities for hand washing after visiting the animals. Beautiful place. Have visited many times and will go again. We'll worth a visit.
N. M.
Relaxing atmosphere when walking round the lovely gardens. Small animal area with Meerkats was a lovely addition.
M. P.
Highly recommend beautiful in any season, if you go in winter is 5£ per car. Lots to see and lots to do.
S. O.
Perfectly manicured gardens fitting into the backdrop of Castle Ashby. From its 12th century beginnings the gardens started to take shape, from the 15th century onwards, culminating into the present design in the 18th century under the expert eye of Capability Brown. And what a magnificent job he has done, with surprises tucked into every corner and turn. A must see for any keen gardener.
C. H.
The tea room and shops were closed this time of year, but it was great to take the kids round the gardens and in the menagerie, got to see some little meerkats which they love. The parking and entry is 5 pounds per car, there's a play park next to the car park. The grounds are well kept and the green house is very beautiful, the buildings around the garden have some lovely architecture to them. When we visited, there were hand carved elephants on display for an elephant charity.
C. O.
What a find and only half an hour from us! We went to try out lunch at The Buttery first which was wholesome and good value, then we went around to the Gardens (which you have to drive between) for the Halloween Pumpkin Trail. It was very busy as usual for half term, but so well organised that once you started the trail everyone had spread out so you didn't feel crushed between parents, buggies and kids. The trail takes you around all the best parts of the estate, it even had a menagerie which was a nice pit stop. A lovely looking cafe at the end and a large play park topped off a great day out. Definitely one for the Halloween period next year!
A. F.
We had a great time here a few weeks ago with my sister and our children. We must have spent around 4hrs admiring the estate, walking around the beautiful gardens and laughing at the male tortoise chasing his female friend around – All she wanted was to enjoy the sun whilst eating endless amounts of grass. We finished our tour with a 30min stop in the playground where was enjoyed a coffee.
Highly recommended, so much so I took my daughter again this weekend…
S. B.
Enjoyed a lovely winter walk through the garden and arboretum. Looking forward to returning to see it summers full bloom.
G. K.
Absolutely wonderful place, their social distancing rules, direction of travel around the grounds and tea room/ restaurant setup made for a really lovely day.
G. B.
Great garden, beautiful place with animals and play area for kids only shame is cafe is not closed for winter.
G. T.
The children enjoyed the Easter egg Trail and seeing all the animals. Will definitely go back in the summer! Stunning gardens.
L. M.
Had a lovely peaceful lunch here, with very generously filled prawn sandwiches. We didn't pay to visit the gardens as we had our dog with us. Think she might have been allowed, but wasn't sure. But people coming out were expressing how beautiful the gardens were. Had a piece of carrot cake, to die for!
A. L.
beautiful gardens - stunning nature. we love it here so much, have come before and will be coming again
J. C.
Lovely gardens, play area and tea rooms. We've been season ticket holders for a few years now and are fortunate to be able to pop in for a few hours here and there.
It's a beautiful place in all seasons and always offers something slightly different. Despite the formality of the appearance of the gardens and how immaculate they are, it's a great place to take children to. There are plenty of benches scattered around and it's easy to find a quiet corner for a picnic, even when it appears busy. The play park is lovely, with seating around 2 sides where you can enjoy a cuppa (in theory...) while the children play.
Really lucky to have this quintessentially English garden right on our doorstep to enjoy all year round.
R. T.
Brilliant little day out very idyllic and beautiful scenery good price too
S. H.
Beautifully kept gardens. Great play area for the children with cafe seating area for parents to keep an eye. Opportunity for young ones to feed the meerkat. Picnics allowed in the Italian Gardens. Also nice for a peaceful wander.
N. S.
Lovely place for a walk and has really good coffee! I'd like to go back on a sunny day but even today that was raining we had a really good time.
N. H.
Great little place to visit, nice cafe and does Easter egg and pumpkin hunts for the kids.
S. B.
Nice place for an afternoon out. Amazing well kept gardens and the animals are good entertainment for the children
S. K.
Beautiful place for a nice day out and the good walk 🙂
D.
First visit to these lovely gardens. We were disappointed that no plants were for sale, but enjoyed a leisurely walk through all of the gardens and features, finishing with a nice lunch at the cafe. The bird hide was a great place to sit and rest a few minutes before continuing our stroll. Some of the trees are absolutely breathtaking and some are now in full bloom. Lovely way to spend some time. There's also a children's play area, and dogs are welcome. We saw a few families picnicking. The menagerie was fun, too, with birds, tortoises, meerkats and more. Parking is plentiful and staff are friendly and helpful.
S. C.
Beautiful gardens with a range of spaces, from more formal gardens, to woodlands and lakeside. A good place to take a picnic and good book and relax on a sunny afternoon. Really admire how they have dealt with covid restrictions, so it never felt crowded. There is also a nice tea room to pick up a slice of cake and a brew.
C. R.
The gardens where kept incredibly well and beautiful, even considering it is late winter. It was also nice to see the different exotic animals
L. H.
We only visited the tearoom but there is such a beautiful display of plants in this area, it feels like you're in the actual garden!
The food was beautiful presented and freshly made. And it took only minutes to come out to us. The staff are lovely and very friendly.
It's currently a reduced menu, like it is at so many other places during covid, but the was still a nice selection.
Will definitely be going back.
Y. S.
Such a beautiful place and well worth a trip. On your own, as a couple or the whole family (including the dog)
S. F.
Stunning setting and great staff. Can loose yourself in the grounds for hours on end. Dog friendly which is a plus.
D. E.
We'd never visited here before but we weren't let down. There is a great play area for children with tables around the sides so you can eat and drink from the cafe at the same time. Our children loved the little zoo they have and there are so wonderful views, lakes, bridges and gardens to walk around. We managed to spend the whole day there happily.
R. P.
Beautiful gardens and a fun play ground for the kids. Food is nice and the staff all friendly.
L. Z.
Loved the gardens but coffees completely over-priced! So 5 stars for garden, coffees 1. (tasted good just rip-off price) After checking menu realised charged for double shot coffees. Perhaps a new staff member or machine malfunction!
A. C.
Good place to walk your dog or go for a long walk and picnic but found it a bit boring as far as plants go. Probably a hood place to take kids as lots of space to run around, has an outside activity/Park and meerkat and exotic birds, although on my visit the meerkats were not in sight
A. K.
Really lovely place. A nice walk around the gardens, probably tge most expensive we've been on so far this year, but I suppose they have to oay someone to keep the grounds in such immaculate condition. I enjoyed the arboretum and lake a bit more than the manicured gardens. The highlight of the visit was the menagerie and visit to the Tea Room. The scones were to die for.
G. M.
Gorgeous Gardens with a miniature zoo - a must see for kids
S. C.
A nice variety of things to see. Well priced cafe, some vegan options. We spent just under three hours there and felt like we saw it all. No goats despite advertised, though perhaps they were also on holiday! Signage to the shopping centre was confusing.
I. L.
Had an amazing time spent here with my family, loved it, would come back again soon
B. S. (.
Fantastic place. Beatuful gardens! Stunning! Trully recommended!
S. G.
Nice gardens to walk around
D. S.
Lovely day out, tea rooms can be busy but you can always bring a picnic to enjoy on the green. Great for kids too as there's a play area & animal menagerie!
L. D.
Lovely gardens with a little animal area. Also has a great play area for older kids. It would be nice if they had a little area for toddlers too but does detract from the rest. Slightly on the pricey side though
K. D.
Lovely day out. Prices have gone up this year and no discounts for seniors or season tickets
Could do with toilets near menagerie as long way back to cafe.
Beautiful well kept gardens.
F.
Lovely garden and the whole environment is fully peaceful.
f. b.
A very green and beautiful place where you can spend some quality time with friends or family. There is a lake where kids can sit and feed the fishes, can see a lot of exotic plants-flowers, trees, etc. and also some species of exotic birds and animals. There is also a playing area for children, and a cafe shop where you can buy food and drink.
J. F.
Love coming here. The children enjoy the variety that this landscape and property offers.
T. M.
We went there in winter the Garden has very few things to see. One that impressed me is it has a zoo besides the garden, many cute animals. Lively and lovely.
m. b.
My wife & myself love the place. One way systems in place all around the gardens and, to some extent, around the wider grounds & down by the bridge at the end of the lake.
Borders are all very neat & tidy & ready for a great floral display in the coming weeks.
There is no instant entry so you have to pre-book, if you are not a season holder, but not difficult to book tickets even when you arrived unannounced as we did. It is £10 per day ticket.
We'll be back to witness the lovely colours through the summer months. Jan & Mike
E. G.
Lovely gardens to walk around with the family. There's a section where you can walk through the woods and take the dog of the lead. Good place to spend the morning or afternoon.
A. S.
Excellent day out , beautiful country gardens and lovely walks. Great value for only £10 per adult and £4.50 per child, book on the day too.
R. B.
Make sure you get your tickets before you visit as no ticket office on site
F. D. J. M.
Beautiful gardens! Recommended!
c. l.
Peaceful gardens and good walks in adjoining fields.
H. N.
Stunning place to visit. Everything is presented so well, neatly kept and so it is such a pleasant place for walks with lots of scenery/attractions. The surroundings are beautiful, thoroughly enjoyed my visit here with the family.
N. D.
Beautiful gardens, a very nice place to have a picnic and take little ones for a run around! There are some animals, a great play area and a lovely cafe.
C. S.
Such beautiful gardens and architecture. A magical place. Well worth a visit. Tea rooms are adequate. Plenty of parking
J. B.
The gardens are great to walk around i recommend it
s. v.
Lovely setting, fantastic cafe. Reasonable prices
n. j.
Beautiful gardens, could spend hours walking around. Great big old trees. Amazing stone buildings. Petting zoo.
Be careful that parking is £5 and it is cash only! The tea room is not always open.
P. “. D. V.
Stunning house with it's own church and gardens. Well worth a visit.
N. G.
Peaceful place for a walk, with plenty of benches to sit. Play area for children too.
C. L.
Beautiful garden and big park, we enjoyed seeing meerkats in the menagerie. Has a big playground for all ages and a coffee shop for parents
A. C.
Lovely afternoon out was had this weekend here. Plenty of things to see and do, taking a picnic would be a great plan to enjoy while enjoying the fantastic views.
K. F.
Beautiful gardens in the rural, peaceful Northamptonshire countryside. Great for all ages.
R. P.
Lovely gardens, both formal and informal plus really interesting menagerie!
A. S.
Great place to visit, shame there isn't a public toilet actually in the Gardens for those with a weak bladder. But overall it was very enjoyable.
D.
This is a really nice place to visit with young kids. Plenty of big trees and hiding places to explore, a nice little animal section. There's a pleasant little walk along a pond/river which is the right length for kids. There's a fun play park. A good day was had by all.
M. M.
Lovely afternoon in a very picturesque and relaxing location...great for kids and adults...play park, beautiful gardens, menagerie and orangery...tea rooms (very reasonable prices for food and drink)and onsite toilets...can easily spend 4 hours or more here...lovely areas for picnics too...need to book online...plenty of FREE parking :)
S. K.
Nice garden and grounds but at £10 from 13th of March far too expensive. Esp as due to Covid no friends allowed and parts of the garden not open. It would be better to charge less and encourage more people to come more often!
J. M.
The gardens are really nice - a good place for the whole family. There are activities for children (and a playground), and the trees in the arboretum are impressive - great for any enthusiastic gardener. Dogs are allowed everywhere except in the cafe (why??).
C. S.
Excellent weather made the visit even better. Great walk around the gardens and menagerie. Brilliant! Will visit again soon.
T. J.
Wonderful tea. Pity gardens were closed
M. T.
A beautiful location and gardens. We went New Years Day and it was quite rainy and wet, but it was still a lovely experience. I think it's going to be wonderful on a dry day.
J. H.
A really attractive and well maintained garden. The menagerie was great and allows you to get close to all the animals. There is also a good children's play area and tea room. Looking forward to going back.
D. S.
Lovely place. Not too much of a walk with kids. Is free to enter in winter (including seeing the meerkats, marmosets, giant rabbits, pigs etc), great on a sunny winters day. Just need 5 x £1 for car park. Good mix of garden styles from formal to open park and trees. It is pathed all the way round if you are taking a buggy.
C. T.
Lovely park and gardens. Loved the animals, especially the meerkats.
Book online at the moment as numbers are limited. Worth wearing wellies as some paths a bit muddy on wet winter days.
S. H.
Beautiful grounds to an impressive house. Kids loved the playground, menagerie (marmosets, meerkats, parrots etc) and running around the gardens and arboretum. No dogs allowed in the menagerie, but welcome everywhere else, (off the lead in the arboretum only). Interesting display about development of the gardens and the work of 'Capability' Brown. We all got in on the last day if winter fees for £5- a great deal (no tea room etc, but a great way to see everything else). Summer prices higher but I think still worth it.
n. k.
Beautiful place to spend a few hours when the weather is nice. Lovely playground for kids and they loved the little menagerie.
S. E.
It's stunning and beautiful. So peaceful to walk around. Paying for the parking can be an issue as if the cafe is closed and you have no change you can't pay by card. The grounds are beautiful and caredfor with stunning trees and walk ways. They have meer cats and other beautiful animals to look at. I highly recommend visiting this place for a lovely day out.
K. R.
Worth every penny. Will look amazing in summer. Late autumn was also a pleasure to walk about
M. A.
A lovely place for a walk in a refined countryside setting. Dogs can go on a lead. Nice food at reasonable prices. Pretty greenhouses with a water features. Definitely worth a visit. The meercats, monkeys and other animals keep the kids happy too.
S. F.
Stunningly beautiful gardens with small wildlife and play area combined with seeing the castle and estate make a super outing.
D. V.
One of our favourite places to visit. Gorgeous gardens and woodland walk, excellent menegrie of animals the children love! Well maintained and age varied play area and a lovely little tea room! Top class day out.
A. C.
Nice place to visit, great time for a relaxing day out.
M. S.
It is a such a shame you can't go for free to a playground and to have a coffee while you watch your kids playing. It is a one of my favourite places but as I have seen gardens all ready it is a bit to much to pay £15 for two of us to just use coffee shop. Over all it is a lovely place and I will highly recomend it.
W. B.
Lovely gardens for a walk around after a nice lunch in the cafe. Good choice for children. Little play area and some animals to look at for the children, especially the meerkats. Pleasant and helpful staff. Small shop selling some reasonable priced items.
N. S.
Beautiful place! Perfect for children and dogs!
N. R.
Beautiful and peaceful place. Its great for family going ours, picnic friendly. Lots of alees to walk and enjoy nature. Plus they have menajerie with meercats, parrots and much more.
a. m.
Very nice place to visit with children. You can spend whole day to see gardens and castle. I will be back there.
O. T.
Beautiful gardens, lots to discover, very relaxed place. Also enjoyed the animal enclosure. Can take a picnic or use the tea rooms for light snacks and drinks. Good okay area for little ones too.
A. A.
Great gardens with great facilities, I took my family of 2 little ones 5 and 1 and both enjoyed themselves.
M. P.
Absolutely lovely place! Feels like secret haven. Amazing to be able to get that close to meerkats and tortoises. Well maintained and looked after. Great for all ages!
C. F.
What a beautiful place to visit. The gardens and buildings eg the Church and Orangery are so peaceful and uplifting, and whether a long or shorter walk is wanted, the layout accommodates different requirements. Three of us enjoyed a cream tea afterwards and we were all extremely impressed by the home produced scones at a very good price. There is a charge to go into the main gardens but not to sit inside or outside the tearoom and its surrounding garden.

Immaculate, well laid out gardens with plenty of well kept lawns for a socially distanced picnic. Features include an menagerie with fish pond and a menagerie with animals such as Meerkats, Rabbits Tortoises and birds. One way system works well with plenty of sanitised along the way. Thrte is a walled garden and plenty of car parking. Lovely tea shop and children's area for those that feel the need to let off steam. Great day out, especially in good weather.
J. H.
Fantastic gardens and menagerie. Meerkats, goats, monkeys, giant rabbit and more. It has a cafe and a play park. Beautiful old trees. Dogs are welcome too and they even have signs up in the gardens to let you know when its okay to let you dog off the lead. Well worth a visit.
B. T.
Lovely day out. Breathtaking scenery, awesome castle and conservatory. Staff very helpful and pleasant. My grandchildren loved the experience. Recommend the tearoom and children's play area too.
A. B.
Never been before, it's lovely and peaceful. Lots to see and do for all ages. Nice cup of tea and was pleased that fruit was available to buy from tea room. Apples, pears. Tangerines and bananas. As well as all the other goodies. Great selection
Of cakes. Didn't have any food but what I saw other people eating looked good.
Would definitely visit again
M. D.
Very tidy and clean gardens. Play area is great. It has picnic area and a cafe were you can buy food at reasonable price. Mini zoo area is very nice for children. Especially the Meerkat’s, they are fun to watch. I would highly recommend a visit. It is 15 pounds entry for family of 2 adults and 2 children. Adult price is 7 pounds. Children 5 - 16 is 1 pound.
s. h.
Castle Ashby pumpkin hunt, fantastic Halloween fun for all the family.
J. S.
Lovely few hours out with the kids
j. g.
Beautiful grounds and a lovely look back at a bit of history
G. P.
Beautiful English Country gardens. Especially love the Orangery, with its spectacular array of begonias. Would have loved to have wondered around the arboretum too, but ran out of time! There's so much to see here. Great for all the family. One of Northamptonshire's gems!
S. C.
Really quiet at the moment (22 December 2020) but the Covid system seems to be set up to minimise traffic jams. The Marmosets were a high point, with two babies, and lots of individual personalities on show. Nice grounds and landscaping, even for winter. Would recommend.
N. G.
lovely gardens and a good park for the kids to enjoy. bring a picnic or grab something to eat at the garden cafe. especially nice in the spring or summer. there is a small farm with animals. plenty of space to explore and tire the children out.
G. S.
Great place to visit close to Northampton. In the winter montgs you pay £5 to park and have access to the gardens, menagerie orangery and play area. There is decent cafe and a small gift shop.
D. “. B.
Went on the Easter egg hunt, 8yr old had a great time. Online booking only
E. F.
Lovely gardens set in beautiful countryside. We went out of season in February half term so no facilities open for food or drink which seamed a shame. However we enjoyed the visit with two boys and our dog. The large Orangery was beutiful even out of season, the meerkats were hilarious and the aboretum was great for a picnic and letting the dog off the lead. Look forward to visiting in spring/summer.
A. S.
Came here today as part of the annual Halloween pumpkin hunt. A bit of a Smith family tradition.
£24 for three kids and two adults. Free parking.
It's a lovely place to visit at any time if the year but of course the children love it during October! This year there was a spooky tent which was a nice addition to the skulls, spiders and ghosts... Oh and of course the pumpkins.
Three goodie bags are a nice mix of toys and sweets if you're concerned about sugar content.
A lovely hour long walk around followed by twenty minutes in the play area.
Unable to comment on the cafe but the menu looks good. Wine and beer too which is a bonus you won't get at a National Trust venue!
H. S.
The gardens and grounds are stunning. With fairy doors to find and a cafe on site. We did the pumpkin trail which was great value for money and will definitely go back to the gardens again
G. D.
Beautiful gardens to explore, my dog especially liked it also a tea room if you get hungry and thirsty.
D. H.
Lovely place to visit. It is free to look around unless you want to enter into the gardens, then it costs £7 for adults. There is a gift shop, and a restaurant. Nearby is Castle Ashby village which has quaint little shops and a little place to drink and eat.
H. D.
Great that the dog could go in and what a lovely area, peaceful and nice refreshments. Different having the animals there too. Really loved it
V. A.
Beautiful gardens and good variety of food available in tea rooms. Great play areas for children plus a mini zoo. Covered area outside when the rain came down briefly.
A. D.
Clean and beautiful views
I. D.
Lovely place for a short walk around to blow the con webs. Lively to see the animals at the end of a walk. Good value for money, even better in the summer when the shops open, just unfortunate you have to share with everybody else
W. B.
Nice gardens and menagerie, the Meer cats are great. We had a nice day, the gardens are well cared for and there is an Orangery there too. Lots of young families go too as there is an extensive children's play area. There is a gift shop, cafe/restaurant and you can purchase plants there too.
P. M.
Easy to follow one way system. Pumpkin hunt was a bit pricey as this year there were no goodie bags or sheets to fill out. Cafe, toilets and park open.
L. G.
Had a lovely surprise didn't even know this place existed and I've lived in Northampton all my life . Obviously I knew castle Ashby was there but not the tea rooms. Had lovely coffee and cheese scone and beetroot chutney for lunch and the setting was so peaceful. Will definitely be back staff so friendly and dogs welcome in the gardens and outside the cafe. And if its raining there is undercover seating a very nice experience
C. T.
Beautiful place, fun for all the family. We had a fantastic afternoon. The grounds are super, the play area for the kids and the animals were great fun and of course we finished with a good afternoon tea!
J. R.
Beautiful gardens and so peaceful 😊
D. R.
Very nice and beautiful place
C. R. C.
Best place to spend a nice Sunday away from town.
Y. N.
Enjoyable afternoon out. Very nice tea rooms. Weather was gorgeous so plenty of outside seating. Had a lovely cream tea. Was a bonus that there was a craft fair on when we visited.
D. S.
Great place to spend a half day wandering around the gardens and animals. Nice big old trees, beautiful flowers and there are some animals for the kids to see like meerkats, monkeys and goats.
S. G.
Lovely place to visit. Beautiful gardens, good tea rooms & loved the animals. Great play area for children. Helpful staff too. Would highly recommend 😊
A. K.
Nice gardens and small animals
G. G.
Love this public gardens and menagerie
M. G.
Really nice place for a walk and picnic, cafe closed until July 20th 2020 due to covid, but in the past really nice food and good service, great mini animal park, and kids will love it.
A. L.
The place is amazing! But don’t buy anything from that tea room. Food and coffee was awful! Spoons were dirty so can just imagine sanitary condition in kitchen. 🤭 during COVID hygiene standards should be higher.
W. R.
I visited this place in the winter so can’t comment on the coffee shop or shop as they were both closed.
However we were able to walk around the gardens which were beautiful. The highlight for me was the area which housed a small menagerie of animals. Here you will find the meerkats! Put simply, they are the most entertaining creatures I have ever encountered. They are highly inquisitive and so they all rush over to see you. It is very funny to watch them going about their strange meerkat antics!! If you fancy a nice stroll I would absolutely recommend this place. But be warned that parking is £5.
S. W.
This was a real gem of a place conveniently nestled between Wellingborough and Northampton. Lovely gardens and a well appointed mini zoo, combined with a very nice cafe added up to a good day out at a reasonable price.
T. B.
We been coming here for about 7 years. So much to explore! The gardens are immaculate.
E. G.
I love going here with family and friends! Such a nice place to visit, staff are very kind, absolutely love!
A. R.
Great place for families, a lovely playground and gorgeous gardens. Tea rooms and outside space is really nice. Friendly staff. We now have a season pass so will be back soon.
N. D.
Beautiful setting with eating facilities in the countryside.
H. M.
Best seen in the summer or spring... Lots of open areas to have a picnic, little but nice cafe on site, lively to walk around and see all the plants, trees and flowers
M. B.
We popped into the gardens at Castle Ashby during a weekend visit to see friends - we were walking off hangovers but still enjoyed the fresh air, sunshine and the Meerkats! The gardens cover about 35 acres but the whole estate is over 10,000! We stopped for a well earned coffee after our walk and even bought a couple of plants for our garden.
l.
Beautiful place to go for an impulse day out, I also love how the café offers soya milk as opposed to dairy, the food was pretty good however there aren't many vegetarian/vegan options but apart from that it's beautiful, very well put together and you can learn quite a lot from such a hidden gem
M. A.
Beautifully kept gardens and a lovely couple of hours out. We especially loved the menagerie!
C. S.
Great out of season for a fair priced parking and access to the gardens and menagerie. Have been a few times. Not been in summer where access to the house is on the ticket price.
R. J. H.
Off Peak is free entry and lovely facilities to see. Is more pricey in peak season. Lovely to walk around though and lots to see. There are often events and fayres here & also a pumpkin trail. A lovely animal section too, with meerkats and other small animals.
A. K.
Great day out and afternoon tea was nice
C. B.
Lovely gardens, arboretum and small menagerie including meerkats, pigs and goats. Keep an eye out for events, e.g. craft fair we went to where we could see the grounds after just paying to get into the fair, making it very good value.
N. B.
What a lovely place. The animals are kept in clean, large enclosures. The gardens are beautiful. Just wish I lived nearer and i would deffinately buy an annual ticket. 5 *****
b. E.
the pumpkin hunt was amazing. one of the best kiddies events I've been to. the grounds and gardens are beautiful and we will definitely be back for picnics.
P. A.
Beautiful gardens and ok play area for kids.
K. B.
Beautiful relaxing place to spend your afternoon .
A. F.
Very pleasant walk around. Visited church. very nice tea room. Childrens play area. Only slight disappointment was unable to get good view of formal gardens by the house
J. R.
Beautiful gardens, enclosure with meerkats and farm animals, woodland walks, cafe and large children's play area. Great place for all ages.
M. D.
Beautiful gardens, a very peaceful place to visit. Very tasty lunch and loved the church which remains open. Had a special birthday there
N. W.
Love taking the kids to events here. Good playground. Interesting animals. Great space to run around but can't take balls etc.
J. ..
Lovely formal english estate and gardens with a excellent small animal area (meerkat's are cracking). And once been around the gardens they have excellent tearooms selling lovely cakes and offering good lunch menu.
P. G.
Lovely parkland to explore. Great animal menagerie with once of the best Meerkat compounds you will see anywhere. Excellent kids play area, shop and cafe.
P. S.
Anothers gem of a house and gardens to be found in rural Northamptonshire. Small children and their parents will appreciate the playground and small animal enclosures.
Lunch or tea and cake in the cafe or take a picnic to eat on lawn, it's your choice.
Loses one star as no access to house and toilets are far and few between.
M. S.
Gorgeous! Came here for afternoon tea and it was delicious! The staff were very accommodating when it came to dietary requirements and there was a great selection of veggie food ☺️
The view is stunning, definitely worth a visit!
S. M.
Lovely afternoon out, great social distancing and lots of places to have a picnic. Lovely tearoom and kids play area as well
J. M.
Most amazing day out. It's so beautiful! Dogs are welcome too! Make sure you bring a 5ver in coins for parking
L. B.
Gone very commercialised and very expensive it was very busy on the weekend so for peace and quiet go mid week. Gardens were beautiful of course but not an inexpensive day out any more .

S. T.
Myself and my partner attended a wedding here and the surroundings and setting were very beautiful. The weather held up, so it was an amazing day.
D. V.
Lovely day at the amateur dog show. Dogs and people had a great time. Sadly our old dog passed away a few days later., However, Castle Ashby Gardens will always be special to us.
L. H.
Lovely walk and great place to take photos, there's a kids play area too for people who have paid to go in the garden, word of advice, don't lose your sticker, stick to somewhere you know it will stick, don't stick it to clothing, it will fall off or get stuck in hair,
R. J.
Stunning gem of a location. Never been before and was stunned as Its immaculate and has fabulous cafe also. Only critisism is closing so early during summer months. Will go bsck but arrive earlier in the day.
N. H.

R. T.
Beautiful well cared for gardens and animals
E. C. M.
Would give 5* but they have a very rude security officer - when u go off track and he sees u are foreigh rudely asks "Can you read signs written in english?" or maybe he's just ru de altough signs where saying that u can go that way towards the church which we visited and it is impressive. Gardens are lovely as well, very very nice-we loved our day out. Shops are very nice too.
S. L.

g. j.
Ashby cafeteria service and food good but from now on unless you pay to visit the gardens you can NOT use the cafeteria without paying the £8.50 fee per person
J. F.
Beautiful gardens but to pay nearly £30 for 3 adults and a child it's a bit expensive considering it's just gardens and not anything in particular to do.
A.
Pity that for 10 pounds entrance fee we can’t visit the castle but the garden only
c.
Good value for money in winter

Lovely place shame they dont have another toilet is a right pain you have to walk all the way back to the entrance to the toilet when you have children spent most of out time going back to the toilets really lets the place down all those grounds and 1 restroom heard alot of people complaining about it and couple more rubbish bins would be good 😡
