Reviews of Norwich Playhouse
A. S.
First time at the playhouse, thoroughly enjoyed it, the staff were all lovely & the seating was very comfortable. For a smaller theatre it was very intimate and welcoming. Seemed really close to the stage and enjoyed the whole experience.
D. J.
Lovely little theatre, great staff, good range of shows. I am tall, but the seats are great - plenty of legroom, and well padded. Have not used the bar, so cannot comment. Great place for stand-up acts.
R. G.
Went to see the Birds and the Bees, very funny and well acted. I would highly recommend if you like a saucy chuckle.
We had a drink in the bar first there is always a good atmosphere there, and being a small theatre you are always close to the stage.
I. Y.
I have not been here to see a performance but can recommend the place for a busy gathering of drinkers. Three of us came here for the 2022 City of Ale Festival and I think it was the fourth time I'd been here. There was a wide range of well priced ales available and the bee garden, by the Wensum, is a nice place to chill out.
S. B.
The place was so fun and colourful! The staff were super friendly too. Service was a bit slow, but obviously to be expected on a Saturday evening. Plus the drinks were a good price too. Would definitely reccomend .
D. R.
Sightly short on legroom but some great shows on here. Tonight we laughed like drains at the Nimmo Twins.
P. B.
Is it the venue or the act? Maybe it's a bit of both. If you want a colourful dose of our good old fashioned Norfolk humour then it's got to be the Nimmo Twins every time. What's not to like 😂
M. F.
Always been a good place to visit over the years, hasn't really changed. Great bar, nice atmosphere. Would recommend
J. F.
Well known as fringe theatre venue, Noriwich Playhouse is a 300 seat theatre in the heart of the city. The funky and reasonably proced bar has a fun, student feel and buzz, and there are large outdoor areas with seating both outside the front and back.
D. W.
Great venue for the more intimate performances where you feel you're in the centre of it. Comfortable and charming. A deservedly popular bar as well.
S. D.
Very good setting. Small theatre so has a good intimate feel. Has a bar attached. Would recommend.
J. S.
A great little theatre with a nice bar, that is not to everyone's taste but fine. Theatre itself is good and surprisingly spacious
D. W.
Always good a great little theatre, and even when the bar is busy the efficient and friendly staff do a brilliant job.
B. D.
The Playhouse is a fantastic venue in a quieter part of town. A great selection of drinks including no fewer than three gluten-free beers, although the only food available is a selection of candy bars.
The decor is quite kitschy with retro toys on the shelves and a fascinating Norwich display on the ceiling.
The staff are friendly and polite in both the bar and the ticket office.
I mustn’t mention to forget the shows that are booked here! All of which a very high standard, both comedy and theatre.
S. M.
The bar is a fantastic place for a couple of cheap, chilled out drinks. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff.
The actual playhouse is great. Comfortable seating and again, very accommodating staff.
Would recommend to everyone.
B. R.
The children’s shows at the Playhouse are excellent .. went to see Oi Frog and the show was engaging from start to finish. The length is just right for the children and of course there’s some great restaurants nearby .. we used XO cafe and it was superb also .. a great morning out. There is a Julia Donaldson show Smartest Giant in Town coming up so likely to be there again soon...
M. O.
Nice outside space, good location, local beer well kept. Enjoyed the couple of beers I had here, not sure I got the feel for everything there was to offer. Nice place.
N. L.
Saw the awesome Scummy mummies here. Love love love the Playhouse, great atmosphere inside and out. No Covid measures seemingly in place anymore. Wish something could be done about the typical pre performance bar scrum though.
J.
I absolutely love coming to the Playhouse Bar during lunch whilst at university. They let you bring in your own food to eat as long as you purchase a drink from them.
The staff are lovely and very approachable. The atmosphere of the bar is amazing, I love the decor and the fish tank is a great addition.
The drink prices at the playhouse are reasonable with a cup of tea being £1.
Love coming here whether it being on a break from uni, to chat about work with fellow classmates and to socialise in the evening.
J. R. B.
Theatre created in an ancient building which was a motorbike emporium in my husband's youth. Now a comfortable auditorium with a good view of the stage. Enjoyed 'The Birds and The Bees' - a lively and thought-provoking adult comedy.
T. D.
Five stars if the Nimmo Twins are performing....but good bar and outdoor areas too.
D. J. W.
Just home from Norwich Playhouse after being entertained by The Ronnie Scott's Allstars. Superb night great musicians, great vocalist, and some brilliant stories and humour that was Ronnie Scott. Brilliant
N. S.
First time here at this venue, yes I think it was a good choice nice seated area OUT the back did lack a little atmosphere
N. O.
Super student friendly, great staff. My favourite atmosphere for a good drink and smoke
S. S.
Great theatre, great bar, lovely staff. Get to see some great performances.
N. F.
Always clean and always lovely staff. When I came to see Courtney Pine was completely different to seeing the Bubble Man, both fantastic and both the staff help make the atmosphere.
If your not local this is walking distance from the city. Head for at Andrews hall and head towards the bridge and it's just over the bridge on the left. Lovely inside and outside cafes near by and lots to visit while in the area.
Check out the tours underneath the city too if you like the thought of knowing it's there and a bit if history.
J. T.
Great place to a drink. Nice friendly atmosphere and great staff
P. G.
Good small venue for live music and comedy. Leg room between rows is a bit tight. Nice bar.
N. T.
My second time here and a lovely theatre it is, staff, bar etc. The auditorium has a wonderful industrial style which adds to the atmosphere. Great to be out again in an audience, all felt very safe with the measures that had been put in place.
M. K.
Nice venue with good bar onsite.
S. B.
Very lovely theatre, sound carrys so well , great bar and atmosphere downstairs 😀
p. j.
Great little theatre with good bar and outside drinking space overlooking river.
H. L.
Watched the fab Ellie Taylor, venue is great and intimate. The bar attached was quirky and the staff were really friendly, service was quick and easy in the interval. Definitely would come back here in the future.
J. S.
One of my favourite places, probably because I have seen so many brilliant performances. The bar is wonderful, amazing ceiling, but you still have to sit outside. I find it too cold to be comfortable.
C. T.
Lovely building, staff were helpful and very easy to find seats etc
J. G.
One of the best places for a pint in Norwich, especially outside during the summer. The ceiling over the bar is very cool!
S. P.
Great little theatre friendly helpful staff. Thoroughly enjoyed the smartest giant in town.
B. K.
First visit and it is a lovely theatre, not huge which means good views from all seats. Nice courtyard garden to enjoy a pre-performance drink. Not sure if wheelchair accessible as it seemed that all entrances to the auditorium required using stairs - maybe worth a call to the theatre if you need to discuss accessibility.
J. H.
Our first visit and found it to be very good. We sat in the middle and had a good view of the stage infact from what I could see you would get a good view of the stage where ever you sat, small note the announcements was way loud..
Has its own bar and seating area aswell.
M. W. (.
Lovely service and a beautiful bar armed to the teeth with art, great decor and nice drinks. Great atmosphere every time I come here and also a nice cafe in the daytime.
L. H.
Very pleasant staff, who very kindly found me another seat because the one I had booked was very cramped as were all of the seats to be honest but they found a vacant aisle seat for me. Having now experienced it I shall know what seats to look for next time.
R.
Super quirky & cosy place to hang out, drink coffee or start your night out at. Very student friendly, my go-to place to sit and get some uni work done on my laptop. You're allowed to bring your own food too, as long as you buy a drink, so heading here in between lectures and workshops is a no-brainer! Always friendly faces and a welcoming atmosphere.
T. F.
Nimmo Twins - as funny as always. Thank you, you are wonderful!
Venue is brilliant. Can’t beat it!
S. N.
Nice location. Good bar. Acoustics are fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more events in the future
B. B.
A beautiful theatre, nice staff, nice bar and nice place all round and in a nice place too.
T. S.
Really good, lovely place...definitely go again 👏
t. m.
Lovely little theatre...
Nicely spaced out and able to see from all seating...
N. G.
Just watched Fantastically Great women who changed the world- what an AMAZING production! So much talent! I can’t wait to be able to buy the sound track- we loved every song! My daughter said it was an inspiration! Thank you!!
N. W.
Well priced, nice atmosphere.
A good representation of the diversity of Norwich.
O. F.
Lovely intimate venue. Great leg room. Friendly helpful staff. Great bar and lovely beer garden by the river.
M. T.
It's a great theatre and has relatively comfy seats. A good range of shows, comedy, drama etc. The Playhouse bar next door is great for interval drinks and has a very relaxed, student vibe.
S. P.
Brilliant show...Birds and the Bees. Highly recommend, on until 30.04.22.
G. W.
Great venue where you feel part of the action happening on the stage.
J. B.
had a quick drink in the pleasant beer garden at the back.
V. S.
A very friendly place. Good bar with efficient staff
G. S.
Great venue will go again with the right acts .
B. C.
Seats are very low with not much leg room.
L. P.
Love this place. We've been to see a few things here now and each time is brilliant. Thank you :-)
j. d.
A lovely little theatre, but as a ageing person with joint problems not enough leg room.
If I should come again I would need to be at the front.
J. T.
Took a punt on John and the Babtise. Great theatre, good show for an inpromptune night out.
W. F.
Lovely place, brilliant service, just been for breakfast with friends.
A. I.
Lovely theatre friendly staff

C. B.
Nimmo Twins - laugh out loud comedy for Nor Folk - brilliant

P. G.
Very good will be back soon great show from the nemo twins

R. T.
Fantastic venue ,watched the Floyd effect tonight total class .
K. M. S.
Amazing venue, with excellent staff. Would highly recommend any shows at this superb theatre
j. c.
They have fish and a very friendly atmosphere
O. Y.
Nice bar, very covid safe.
Pleasant seating area outside by the river with nice lighting.
Child friendly.
J. K.
Really lovely night. Staff are very helpful and kind. Theatre itself is lovely, a little more legroom would have been nice though haha
R. G.
Lively bar with great outside seating by the river. Good selection of drinks. Brilliantly linked with the play house which has a large selection of acts on throughout the year. Lovely place to spend a summers evening, enhanced by the ability to watch a variety of top class acts.
M. B.
My favourite local theatre. Never too crowded, even at sell our shows. Any seat you get offers unobstructed views of the stage. The bar is so quirky and well staffed you cab always get an interval drink. The beer garden is especially lovely. I often park in St Stephens car park and get to the theatre early for a pre show drink.
A. C.
Brilliant night sooooo funny ! Great venue 🤩
M. W.
Nice atmosphere before attending a show. Also nice place to pop in for a drink.
S. W.
First time here, lovely venue and excellent choice of show (Nimmo Twins) great night out
M. D.
Flo and Joan were amazing and venue is very cool and intimate the lady's spent time after show to speak to everyone
S. R.
Lovely theatre with friendly staff. Excellent production of Legally Blonde the musical. My daughter especially really enjoyed it.
A. C.
Went to see Ok Frog. Show was great. Lovely friendly staff. All round lovely day out.
P. P.
Excellent venue, had the best time watching the Nimmo Twins.👍
I. M.
Rows are too close together. If you're over six foot you're going to be very uncomfortable
T. N.
Lovely environment and quick service. The space in the garden was very well distributed to respect all Covid measures. Felt really comfortable for my first time going back to the Pub. Thank you!
R. C.
Very good visibility of the stage. Two cafes with alcoholic drinks. Sir Ian McKellen made the day.
S. P.
Always coming here for the shows. Good seating and viewpoints of the stage. Great venue with a good variety of entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Very relaxing bar and outside area. A favourite place for me and my friends. Come along for a show or a drink by the river, in a historic part of the city centre. Steven
N. C.
Love this place...small but intimate.
C. T.
Cute venue. The bar is very hipster, the decor is amazing and the staff are friendly. I really love this place
L. L.
Great place. You can have your own food and enjoy a wide selection of beers. Nice music and garden too
M. M.
Small and quaint theatre, but really lovely staff, good seats and wherever you sit you're near to the stage! Big names come here and not so big names. There's a lovely variety of shows on for everyone!
All ages are welcome. There's a bar if you want to get a drink before the show or order one for half way through.
The toilets are clean and near to the exits.
It's easy to find. There aren't any car parks for the theatre, but there are plenty nearby. All are pay and display, it costs roughly £2 for an evening of parking.
Lovely theatre! We go a lot!
T. S.
From the aesthetic I was expecting a warm relaxing atmosphere, a good place to catch up with family. But strangely out of all the places we'd been to during these unusual times, the staff at the Playhouse were the most uptight, intense and unfriendly we encountered that day. Maybe they have a manager who's filling them with fear on a daily basis or maybe they just didn't like our big ugly faces. Hopefully it was just an off-day. We were brusquely told to wait before we were allowed to even ask if we could move to a (free) larger table when our friends joined - no more than 6 of us. We weren't drunk or rude or wearing mankinis (this time). I'm easygoing but the energy was weird, I'd choose somewhere new next time to avoid a repeat experience.
A. V.
Perfect for Friday night pre-dinner drinks - super impressive social distancing measures and very friendly staff. Great selection of beers on tap too, and good value for money. Highly recommend!
E. C.
Love the bar. Child-friendly and fun. Good selection of beers and hot drinks!
G. G.
Fantastic place. Silly Covid rules but not their fault. Small enough to get the best personal experience. Not too big to get lost in the corporate number game.
K. E.
Brilliant little theatre and a great production can't believe I've not been here before
Well worth a visit
L.
Went to see Suzi Ruffell (who was incredible by the way!) and we had a brilliant time. The volunteers are amazing, and so friendly and helpful whenever I had a query. Lovely atmosphere from the beginning and although my seat was at the back it didn't matter at all as I could see perfectly and was not too far away. The sound is great too. Going to be keeping a look out for more shows here.
F. I.
Both the bar and the evens venue here are great offering welcome and friendly comfort for everyone. With a great variety of drinks on offer and bar snacks. The venue is spacious with ample seating and a good size stage offering many different and eclectic drama, comedy and musical experiences. Located in the lanes with amazing decor.
N. W.
One of my favourite venues in Norwich. Huge variety of acts and a great bar!
S. F.
The best place for stand up comedy. There is a great bar to use before the show and you can take your drinks in with you, plusvorder for collection at the break. It holds at a guess 300 people so you can see and hear the acts so feel part of the show. The seats are quite comfortable and there is ample leg room . Staff are really helpful and always smiling which makes a difference. The acts they have on are top notch, tonight we went to see Gary Delaney, top draw, laughed most of the way home. Highly recommended.
A. S.
Atmosphere was great, creative decor, affordable drinks, social distancing taken seriously and bathrooms were cleaned after every person. Great place for post lockdown drinks!
N. M.
Great place to have fun with your friends. Just don't get hungry over there, as it has just simple snacks. You can have delivery services for food even so. Cool place :D
E. S.
Quirky bar with a large outdoor area facing onto the river, currently open 3-11pm Mon-Sat. Don't serve food usually but definitely worth going for a few drinks (before/after a show if you're seeing one!)
k.
First time I have been here. Nice bar for a drink before hand. Limited seating though in bar and the additional side room of main foyre area.
Had become seats. Don't book any seat numbers higher than T10 as foot space is a lot smaller and unsuitable for tall people.
Park at at Andrews around the corner. Parking from 6pm to 10.15pm cost me around £4.
P. R.
We were here twice in one week last month, Totally different shows, but both extremely good. Well done to the management for bringing such diverse performances as the Spooky Men's Chorale and The Edge contemporary dance group.
A. S.
'A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!'. That was the actor Sir Ian McKellen giving his version of Macbeth in A Midsummer Nights Dream. And like him, but not him, other actors can be seen pretending, as hard as they can, to be Old Ben, the simple cobbler in 'Death of a Cobbler' or Jonty, in 'Here's Jonty!' or Angelique the mysterious woman in 'Mysterious Women'. Almost desperately trying to pass themselves off as anyone you like, actors. Love them or hate them, you gotta hate them, or not. I remember seeing some once, not here, but there elsewhere, they thought they were these other people so hard I almost believed them but didn't.
A. O.
First time I have been to this theatre and I was impressed with the venue. The atmosphere was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is an excellent bar. AN EXCELLENT NIGHT OUT.
M. “. D.
Fun place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Every time I go to Norwich I go there. There are good cheap options if you just want to have a tea and chat and also a selection of drinks if you want a night out. Bonus that in the colder months they do a lovely hot cider.
K. O.
What a fantastic place. Very friendly staff. Well worth a visit. Went there tonight to see Russell Howard. It wS brilliant x
D. H.
A really nice playhouse. All seats have a good view of the stage, staff are professional and courteous. Nice bar and cafe to relax in before and after.
Good for children too, seat booster cushions provided.
C. O.
Great building. It's an old structure with a new steel roof. A great juxtaposition of old and new. Good acoustics, we sat towards the back but could see and hear fine. The bar is lively and fun.
C.
Love this place...
The bar is unique with riverside outdoor seating, you can even take your own food if you like! This is central to the student area of norwich so expect it to be very busy.
The threate is spacious, and well presented with friendly staff. There is also a kids play area outside if you need that sort of thing and because it is in a pedestrian area no vehicles are allowed.
Parking is a easy too with St Andrews 5 minutes walk around the corner.
J. G.
Great venue for comedy and drama. Good bar even if you are not seeing the show
D. C.
Lots of fairly big acts perform here. But the bar and outside seating is really cool. They have this small hand-made city model across the ceiling that I can study for hours. Popular with students.
D. P.
Lovely pub! Good vibes, full of young people, nice selection of beers and a garden facing the river of Norwich! You can most certainly feel that people of arts are around! Will be coming back here for many more times! Thank you!
G. W.
First visit. Loved the bar area, very different. Staff really friendly and efficient. Hope to go again.
H. B.
Fabulous for meeting new and diverse people, making way for excellent conversations and atmosphere with great drinks and snacks at great prices. Also provides an assortment of tea and Coffee for those wishing to stay dry.
A social hub with room for a beer, board games and music inside and outside a quaint, intimate flower garden by the river. A favourite spot for city people and theatre enthusiasts.
Perfectly situated next to the Theatre and a short walk to a highly popular restaurant and wine bar.
R. L.
Amazing venue. Great selection of shows, cool bar, fab staff, lovely atmosphere.
J. E. (.
Top venue for intimate gigs/performances from musicians, comedians and theatre groups. Plus the bar next door is the perfect relaxing venue.
F. G.
Very homely spot for a casual drink or coffee. Has a model city on the ceiling so you can't really beat that.
E. h.
I like this place. Always a nice selection of beers and good vibes, staff are lovely too
J. B.
Nice place but a little cramped in the seating area. I'm 6' tall and found it difficult to fit my legs in plus the seats are low down, it feels like you're almost sitting on the floor. So getting up and out is a bit of a pain.
B. W.
Everything about the playhouses is wonderful. There staff our some of the nicest humans I've met and the bar itself is a sight to be seen. The garden is a tranquil haven in the middle of a busy city. Fine booze and great coffee with cafes surrounding for great grub!! A must see when visiting Norwich
J. R.
I have been to several evening performances here. This is a lively, small and well run place.
The bar is the place to be.
During the day it is well used by students from Norwich School of Arts. Sit in or (preferably) outside by the river.
Good beer and coffee.
K. B.
Was seeing rhod Gilbert, it's a clean and comfortable place to go, you can order drinks so they will be ready in the break. There is two seating areas, one is at the bar with the cool ceiling, just go in to see that, it's different having a little town above you. There is a decent garden area to smoke or sit with covers. Coffee is served in a proper mug :)
L. P.
We have visited the playhouse a number of times and find it to be a great venue to see shows. The playhouse bar has an independent and individual feel with a great selection of drinks. The playhouse is centrally located in norwich and close to other bars and restaurants. The stage and seating is small but intimate and welcoming. Highly recommended.
I. H.
A great place for a relaxing drink with a fun kooky decor. Check out ceilingopolis. It has an atmosphere and a look all of its own.
In the summer the outside seating is a great place to meet friends and share a few drinks. It's great when you can catch the sun and at night when the lights come on.
The beer is good but I would like them to change the selection a little more often. In the colder months a warming toddy is often available. I usually stick to the beer but there is also a good selection of tea.
Finally if you're catching a show don't forget to order your intermission drinks.
A. S.
An OK theatre, but the legroom is atrocious. You won't be comfortable if you are tall.
H. W.
First time for me at the Playhouse, very nice place, staff were great, atmosphere was relaxed, I loved it.
A. P.
I love this Theatre, good plays, cutting edge Comedy and Fab music, tonight Elio Pace rocking night.. Staff are friendly and after a few visits you know where the legroom seats are... Art exhibitions sometimes and the Bar and Beer garden is lovely
S. P.
Some great events at this small venue. Comedians especially come to life up close and personal. Parking is good with St. Andrews car park a short walk. The bar here is quirky and compact. A little gem in Norwich.
i.
Good venue. Sound could be better but overall a nice place.friendly staff
S. L.
The only downside was the usher flashing her torch at various members of the audience to try and stop them from videoing the performance - it was more of a distraction than the person with the camera / phone!
s. w.
Great place. Good atmosphere friendly staff. Good views from seats
P. K.
Chilled artistic alternative vibe lovely spot for a drink and catch-up on the garden.
Still vibrant even with covid measures in place.
A. R.
Loved the cafe... went there for drinks with my cousin and the waitress was very nice with us... the coffee was good and I really loved the deco, with buildings all over the ceiling
N. C.
Amazing, magical, engaging, entertaining. What a fantastic performance of room on the broom. Our whole school went to see this performance and the children were well and truly entertained from start to finish. Well done 👍👍
p. d.
First time we have been to the Norwich Playhouse, took 2 of our grandchildren to see Room on a Broom, enjoyed very much by the 4 of us, the theatre is on the small size, I would have thought you would be able to see from where ever you are sitting.
Would definitely return.
J. P.
The Playhouse is a wonderful little Theatre. We have been many times over the years and enjoyed each visit.
Usually lots of good acts.
We'll been keeping an eye for future performances to go do.
We will visit again.
J. S.
The playhouse has been thoughtfully reconfigured to make it the most genuinely Covid- safe bar/ restaurant I've been in so far. Clear instructions, well organised layout and good service. Highly recommend.
E. L.
Beautiful venue. Really good quirky shows. Independent shows I think.
The attached bar is gorgeous with a lovely beer garden with lots of art around to admire. Hipster crowd old and young alike.
L. H.
Great venue with a brilliant wide range of acts coming here to perform. Cosy and intimate setting which makes you feel part of the performance. Great bar too which can be accessed outside of visiting events here. Love the playhouse
C. B.
A terrific venue offering a varied range of dramas, comedy acts, live music and performing arts in a cosy, intimate space where every seat is a good one. Also has an excellent bar. Couldn't be better!
S. Z.
Small theatre, good for stand up comedy. Quirky decor in bar but fun and cosy. The theatre was a bit chilly during the performance and big queue in the interval for the ladies when show sold out. Nice ice cream during the interval.
j. l.
Lovely relaxed environment, you can get a cup of tea all the way through to a beer. The garden is spacious and inviting and there are some lovely big sofa's to relax in. All round a nice alternative place to stop
K. M.
Excellent variety of shows play here. Very polite staff. Helpful volunteer ushers. Clean environment. Good seating plan. Great sound system. Inexpensive ticket prices. Good service at attached bar.
V. H.
Love the interior design and music choices! Lovely staff, welcoming mood, pretty garden area, inside seating and an extra playroom with two pianos. Great place for a cuppa and likewise a drink!
S. D.
Great staff , and a place to relax and watch some incredible shows.
C.
Love this place!! It should have a hipster warning on the door though.
Great atmosphere (on the bar side) and can get real busy during peak times. Cheap drinks, quirky decor and nice outdoor seating. Basic, no frills but perfect for a social catch up or afternoon drink.
It doesn't pretend to be more that it is. They know what they are and their client base and really play to their strengths.
K. L.
Bar is friendly + chilled. Good selection of drinks and brilliant atmosphere. Lovely outdoor seating area. Can rent blankets and hot water bottles in the winter.
N. B.
Lovely place, welcoming staff. Slightly cramped theatre but great for the kids. Nice bar with alternative styling but reasonably priced also. Looking forward to going to going to more shows next year.
A.
Lovely small venue, with no shortage of top acts. Good bar with relatively large outdoor area. As with most small theatres it seems, could do with larger toilet facilities.
B. E.
Prompt customer service and friendly bartender. Fun place to hang out with friends.
S. M.
Lovely theatre space, with a carefully curated programme. Think it is especially good for comedy gigs. Then there us the friendly bar (check out the ceiling) and superb beer garden.
K. M.
Love this place! Such a mixed group of people but always feel comfortable 😌
A. P.
Fantastic range of theatre, comedy, live music and so much more. The bar is fantastic too; lots of character and loads of board games. Worth a visit even if you're not going to a show.
S. H.
Always a pleasure to go here, Staff are so friendly. Bar always well stocked, which is Nice for drinks before, during and after the shows. Lots of class comedy acts.
L. M.
Great quirky bar with good music and a lovely garden
S. C.
My favourite venue to see comedians and other artists in Norwich. It pulls in well known people despite being small, and being small you are never far away from the stage. Great bar, which I visit when when not attending a show.
S. T.
NIMO TWINS, AWESOME 👌 👏
R. N.
It is comfortable with a feeling of space yet small enough to feel special. A popular place for students and the people of Norwich. Good outside area. Non pretentious bar.
H. W.
They have a great COVID-19 system which is easy to understand (even if you're a bit tipsy) and the staff are excellent, as always. It really is as lovely as ever, despite the changes!
I. G.
I used to love this place, but now I am torn between the lovely atmosphere and the rudeness of the barman who can pretty well manage to ruin a lovely evening.
K. L.
Great little pub/Garden, staff are friendly and the vibe is over all welcoming and diverse 😊
E. P.
Norwich Playhouse is a great little theatre. Every seat has a good view. Prices are reasonable and kiddies especially seem to love shows here. Has a great bar for drinks before or after and is child friendly, plus very funky.
J. W.
Great venue, pictured in a central scenic location in Norwich, down by the river, has a beautiful garden, a bar and theatre.
R. L.
Never disappoints, a lovely venue with a great outside space and some of the friendliest staff you'll find in Norwich.
E.
Great venue! Really good bar next door, theatre is comfortable and cosy. Special thank you to Andrew the stage manager for fantastic service! Can’t wait to return
C. H.
Luv that place well loads m8 - Vibes to spare!
m. m.
Nice and relaxed, great outside seating area. Sometimes tricky to find a seat when it's busy or if you don't like sitting outside, especially when a show has just finished/just about to start!
k. c.
Lovely theatre, well managed by a well stocked bar and friendly staff
T. C.
Went for a quick drink after dinner and I have to say the have implemented the most amazing covid measures. Upon entry our names and numbers were recorded for contact tracing. We were allocated a table number and told there would be table service. The directions were very clear and the whole experience was better than pre covid. Playhouse should be employed by the Gov to sort out covid nationally!
T. S.
A great little theatre, able to see non-mainstream shows etc here.
L. W.
Went for drinks last night, brilliantly organised Covid19 arrangements, felt a world away from the madness around the nightclubs. It's run like a military operation, well done playhouse.
E.
Nice atmosphere, very quirky interior which enhances the experience! Great, big beer garden at the back and even a piano room!
Mainstream prices on drinks and no food served, but hey, there's a nice selection of snacks to hand!
M. W.
Norwich should be proud to have this place. I love attending shows here
L. A.
Small but friendly have some great events on
I. G.
Nice atmosphere and drinks! I'll repeat one of these days for sure.
W. o. P.
Great venue, easy to get to, 8 rows back and had a great view. Only gripe was that the bar was too swamped at the interval to get a drink which was unfortunate but not a deal breaker.
V. J.
Really nice place to hang out and have a drink. The people that come her are really chilled and it gives you an artsy vibe. The have live performances some days. In warm days, enjoy the garden with a pint!
J. E.
A quirky and chill pub that has a nice outdoor area and occasional live music. The "piano room" off to the side is a nice quiet place to have more of a civilized chat and a drink (feels more like a coffee shop than a pub at times)
S. C.
Nice venue with a wide variety of shows. Bar can be very busy
C. H.
Norwich Playhouse is always a good place to visit. Saw a brilliant performance of " Don Pasquale" and had nice drink in bar beforehand where there's always a good mix of people. Would recommend this place to both resident and tourist!
I. L.
Great theatre and even better theatre bar.. make sure you look up at the ceiling!
B. E.
Great diversity of shows, lovely inside and outside bar area. Comfy seats in theatre which is large enough for atmosphere and small enough to feel intimate. Fab place!
T. B.
Speaking about the pub side only, haven't experienced the playhouse itself. Always a great atmosphere and tons of interesting beers and other drinks. Friendly staff.
K. P.
Lovely little venue with a great, quirky bar
J. M.
A cool arts bar for cheap great selection of teas, bar snacks and occasionally pizza stone bake oven. Find a lot of art students creative types hanging out in playhouse. Artistic decorations all around even the celling don't forget to look up at it! Can tell a lot of time effort been put into the bar, friendly staff, alternative playlists of music. I'd say a pretty hip place to go, really close to nua (arts university) ocassionally do gigs in there. Cool and welcoming, large garden area space with lots of table benches for smokers and non smokers, lit up and many plants surrounding. Drinks reasonable prices, love the bloody Mary's there. Also is by the river and next to the theatre what a great location. Has an enviormentally friendly vibe and a creative energy and buzz, would most definitely recommend anyone to go there. Only downfall is the inside is very small much smaller than outside and it can get packed, however they can provide you with blankets and hot water bottles for the cold winter season. Perhaps heaters would be a good idea, apart from that definitely go check this place out if you've never been
C. M.
Nice and Cool place for shows and entertainment very good conditions and atmosphere simply genial ever good for bring friends!
J.
I do love the playhouse. I'm as comfortable having a peach tea there as I am drinking shots of Tuaca, or quaffing pints of ale before a show.
I love the ceiling cardboard city and I sincereley hope it never leaves.
In the little 'snug' area there is a pianop and, whilst I can't play, it's lovely that people have a go from time to time.
The Playhouse garden is an experience all within itself. During the long, hot summers you can position yourself in such a way that you can spot people walking along the bank on the far side of the river and enjoy watching them realise that it's a dead end and they have to walk all the way back. Schadenfreude is always better when surrounded by the excited hubbub of voices and the sway of the riverside trees.
S. H.
Lovely little theatre.
A.
We went to see Shrek the Musical at the Playhouse and we were pleasantly surprised by the size and facilities there. Helpful staff, good view of the stage and good bar next door. We will go again.
S. F.
Lovely little venue, well decorated with a good atmosphere. As a performance venue it's a little low on leg space unless you're front row or up top but otherwise excellent
S. T.
The Playhouse the pub along the river in Norwich he has a really nice vibe full of all different types of people a lovely seating area outside which does get the sun at times and indoors is a nice area to sit in the winter and people watch a good range of beers and spirits also has a nice selection of hot drinks and it's a place you can just go and hang out
K. V.
Cool atmosphere, good location, decent venue.
a. T.
Fantastic small theatre with a great variety of shows. In the interval just pop to the playhouse bar for a drink the atmosphere is great .
D. R.
Quirky bar with wacky wall/ceiling decorations. Big outdoor seating area, busy bar.. Great visit regardless of whether you're seeing a show.
B. M.
Kate bush tribute. Very entertaining.
E.
The playhouse has its own unique style and charm. Whether you're there for a show or just a drink, it has a cool and quirky vibe which, along with the very reasonable drinks prices, makes it the perfect place to meet with friends
F. B.
Absolutely love this place. Come here to watch shows and sometimes just for a few drinks. Staff are mostly friendly and love the quirky atmosphere.
N. W.
A great venue - have been going for years... The range of acts and plays is superb (especially the comedy) and the bar is quirky and well stocked. Absolutely one of my favourite places in Norwich.
L. L.
Always very pleasant to enjoy a drink here . Very well organised covid plan in place, if only everywhere was run this well!
M. T.
Lots of interesting and exciting acts visit the venue. Great place for live comedy. The picturesque bar can get a little crowded, especially when the weathers bad so the garden doesnt take the overspill of people.
H. M.
Great place. Friendly, cheerful and good prices.
A. M.
Love this venue. Friendly and lively. A place to keep visiting. All age groups feel at home. Good, intimate rapport with the visiting acts. Hooray
C. L.
Saw Stephen k Amos here last night and was such a great venue. Awesome atmosphere and a very intimate show
L. S.
Unique atmosphere. Have had many great nights here over the last decade!
R. T.
A nice atmosphere and decent drinks. As a theatre, the venue is brilliant too. The only drawback is in the colder months, there's not much seating indoors.
C. W.
Smallish but perfectly formed venue for a wide variety of shows. Excellent bar on site which is well with a visit in It's own right.
F.
It was great, good beer and tea. Plus serving all kinds of crisps and Coffee. No food however and beer was pricy. Outside serving area was cold. Except from that, excellent service and good overall.
M. S.
Great atmosphere here - it's good to see they still have the quirky decoration in the bar area.
A. r.
Saw rhod gilbert on a warm up gig, was very low key, but still funny. Nice intimate venue great for seeing big stars practicing their routines. And up and coming ones starting out.
A. H.
Wonderful staff at the bar and a cosy intimate stage, get balcony seats if you're over 6ft tall, the regular seating is a tad tight on leg space,
N. W.
Lovely venue for drinks and shows alike.
N. T.
Brilliant performance by Judi Jackson as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival. Well tiered auditorium but small enough to be intimate. Highly recommended
R. B.
The largest upside down model city in Europe! Or something to that effect - it's on the ceiling inside the bar. Reasonably priced drinks and snacks in a wonderful cosy cafe environment. A must visit in Norwich.
M. G.
This is a great place in good weather as there is more seating outside than in. Always a great programme of shows. Very popular with the University in crowd. Right on the river wensum highly recommended
T. B.
Went to see Spamalot and had a fantastic time, lots and lots off laughs by some amazing actors.
The venue was also great, the stage is very close so you get to see everything, can't fault it at all.
C. G.
Great vibe, lovely staff. Lots of outdoor seating.
O. B.
Yeah, it's a bar innit? Popular with students. You don't need tickets for a show, just pop in for a drink and look at all the weird stuff they have everywhere!
S. H.
Amazing selection of craft beers and ciders, the outside space is massive and its lots of fun. They also have a fishtank with an impressive catfish in
H. T.
Lovely sized theatre, nice bar area (if a bit small at the interval). Went with my Mum to see "Christmas with Steptoe and Son" which was brilliant!
G. F.
Great intimate venue. Nice bar and friendly staff.

A great place to come for a drink or three and the theatre is fantastic. One of the best atmospheres in any Norwich drinking establishment. Well worth a visit.
R. E.
Went to see Singin' in the rain today and loved every minute. ☔
C. G.
Great place to chill out with friends and have a few drinks and snacks, especially nice on a sunny day, lots of seating inside and out with parasols at all outside tables, lots of different beers available, very popular most times, been there many times highly recommended

Great venue for theatre and comedy. The best part though is the Playhouse Bar. A very unique, quirky place for a chill drink or three.
P. R.
Great small theatre. Super venue for music events.
E. B.
Watched Sherlock Holmes and enjoyed it. However the theatre was very cold and hot drinks were not allowed to be taken into the theatre so a coffee and tea were barely drunk.
A. L.
Great small theatre. Friendly atmosphere. Very good sjows for families with small children. Varied programme.
D. W.
Really cool quirky place and very student friendly
c. d.
I love the Play house. We have taken the children to lots of shows. Their favourite has been Sarah and Duck. Love the ceiling in the bar. Nice vibes and good coffee.
T. T.
An intimate playhouse that is welcoming and friendly.
P. T.
Lovely place, have been coming here for years. They have a good selection of beer, cakes, sandwiches and tea & coffee and the staff are great.
S. S.
We spend more visits in the funky bar than performances but it's a great place for socialising, seeing great comedians or watching local performances.
b.
Lively city bar with good atmosphere and eclectic decor, usually full of art students and wannabe art students. Can get busy, and difficult to get a table outside at peak times.
K. S.
Delightful fairly modern theatre tucked away in a quiet area of Norwich. Relatively small auditorium. Friendly and helpful staff.
P. W.
Love the playhouse, nice little venue seen some great acts here, tonight (23rd) saw Gary Delaney who had the Sarah Milligan as warm up (she was trying new material) brilliant show

J. D.
Met my wife there several years ago, always good for a drink, nice coffee, great selection of shows.

A jewel in Norwich's crown. It's a great space to take in live performances and the bar and garden are great for pre and post show drinks.

The greatest cultural location in Norwich. Long may it reign.

R. L.
Love it here. Really intimate setting where you can find shows and music that maybe wouldn't fit a larger venue. Horrible Gents' toilets though.
B. L.
A nice place to grab a drink in the evening, marred only by the barman who deliberately underchanged me - when I called him back and queried the change the missing money magically appeared in his hand as he said "here it is". Not impressed. How often do the staff get away with it I wonder?
A. D.
Small intimate theatre nice bar next door also do teas and coffees

An extremely chilled place. Always go here just to talk, play cards and smoke. The music fits the vibe. Love it here because it looks so down to earth and everyone is friendly. Although once we almost got threatened to be kicked out as one of us just finished their drink, it got cleared away and she was told she needs to buy another one otherwise she can go sit in the park instead. :/ I understand they're a business.. But there were politer ways to say that
M. I.
