Reviews of Green's Windmill and Science Centre

Love this place. Excellent playground, generally quite underused. The windmill itself is cool, as is the tiny science museum attached to it. We easily spent 2 hours there, and the kids were begging to stay longer. The only criticism Id make is that it's really inaccessible - the mill itself, which is fair, but also just going up from the playground to the cafe/museum/toilets is difficult with a pram or a wheelchair.

Getting here is an adventure of sorts as it is quite the walk up a hill. I am able to do it without issues. However, my 5 year old daughter struggled a bit. I needed to carry her up. If you plan on coming here, you should drive, arrange a ride or take a bus. We were greeted in the science centre area and given a brief explanation of the facilities. There are many levels to the windmill. My daughter didn't want to climb all the stairs, much to my chagrin, but seeing as I didn't want to leave her on her own, I didn't get to see the top level of the windmill. The view outside the windows on the lower levels is still something to behold. The science centre is on the small side. But there are still exhibits that held my daughter's attention for more than a minute.

Centuries old windmill (restored in 1947 after a fire) is still active today. Friendly hard-working millers operate and explain the functions and operations of machinery. Wasn't a busy place. Nice and cosy cafe and a back garden. All accessible free of charge. Even parking at designated car park was free. You can climb right through to the top. The exterior and interior are beautifully and classically restored and managed. A must visit if you are in Nottingham.

A quiet and peaceful place that's worth the visit. The windmill itself has quite a bit of history. There's a small museum with fun science activities for kids. Also has a nice playground for kids.
M. a.
We had a great fun in this place. You can climb a few levels on a ladder to reach the top of Windmill. Very nice view from there. It's a small science museum with decent experiments. Also you can visit a small garden. It's a free entrance. Worth to visit
C. K.
A very unique and interesting place, located on a hill in Sneinton about a 20 minute walk from the city centre, the windmill is in full operation and you can buy bread flour, I went on a particularly windy day and it was very impressive to see the windmill in full swing. Also you get nice views of Nottingham City from this location.

Lovely free windmill museum. My one year old enjoyed and we both got to climb the windmill.
A. J.
We visited the Mill on Saturday. Free parking, set in a small park with wonderful views over Nottingham. The windmill was turning which was wonderful. There is a lovely community garden behind the mill which is well worth a wander around. The science museum section is well set out. Flour is on sale. There's a good selection in various size bags. Well worth a visit
G. G.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Green's windmill and science centre. The man was informative and patient and explained about the processes of making flour and engaged the grandchildren really well asking and answering the children's questions .The children were very happy to be involved in the packing of the flour.Thank you to him (you made their visit so enjoyable). The small science centre was fun to explore and the park right beside it was enjoyed by the children .

We took our six year old twin granddaughters to this place, and they loved it. They were able to tour the four floors and learnt a lot about historical food processing, using wind power. The little science museum with activities was also stimulating for them. As a grown up kid, though, the best impressions I experienced was information gained from two of the volunteer guides, who were both enthusiastic and armed with phenomenal historical facts. Well Done Green's windmill, for a very rewarding half day out!
E. T.
Lovely little museum. Was mine and my sons first visit and they loved it. The steps are steep to get to the top of the windmill but there are bannisters either side to hold on to. They also offer bread baking workshops for kids and have a beautiful little communal garden where they grow fresh vegetables and an abundance of wildflowers. Definitely recommend.
I. M.
Lovely little attraction to while away some time. The mill is very interesting (will definitely come back when it's turning!) and the science museum bit pretty stimulating. Also sells the flour that's been milled, which is a great excuse to make cake!
K. C.
Lovely place for whole family. Science for the children and flour for the parents 🙂

Wondering around in Nottingham, we were looking for a place to "let the kids go"..we cross this place for pure case and we were lucky! Up on a little wonderful hill, you can visit the still operative windmill and go to the playground just nearby where kids surprisingly spent a lot of time. For the occasion of the Jubilee the Windmill visit was free.
S. B.
Got here after 4 on a Sunday, the visitors centre was closed but, could still walk up the steps to the windmill, coming out in a small park at the side of the visitors centre. The windmill still has sails and a great view over Nottingham. Parking is free after 4pm which was a bonus but missed the visitors centre so will come back another time. Recommend a visit as a hidden gem and lots of history connected to the windmill
F. w.
Hidden gem just off centre of Nottingham.. Lovely educational place for the family
D. H.
Great place to visit and you can buy flour when it is open and friendly staff
L. C.
It was so good. Free to go into the windmill. Great views from the top. It is still a working windmill
Y. B.
We had a really warm welcome. The windmill itself was not fully open because of the restrictions. The science centre was little inside but with full of interesting and fun stuff both for the kids and adults... my kids really enjoyed it. The playground was also pretty good👍
l. w.
This is a place I visit on my daily walk, although I have not been inside it's a most impressive building. The area surrounding it is nice and there is a children's enclosed play park. Plenty of seats to seat and rest.
C. M.
We visited at opening time at 10am and it wasn't busy.
Nothing had changed since I was last there 7 or 8 years ago.
I know it's tough but it needs some investing in it with new activities for visiting children in the science area. The windmill is always going to be a high light and well worth a visit inside and out😀
R. C.
Nice view, good place to go on weekend
B. E.
Really lovely experience especially with kids. You can buy the flour that is milled in the windmill adding that special touch. The grounds are beautiful and have a great view over the city.
R. C.
I pass just for some pictures but is a cool area
A. K. (.
Extremely good for after hours or evening relaxing time. Good view as the sun or the moon rises above the cliffs on the opposite side.
Scientific research center as named windmill inside the small park. Has car park and wheelchair accessible but will need pushing through the other road entrance side.
Has playing place for children as well.
I. G.
It is a place where you can spend a good hour, at least. And you can spend a few quid on their own flower, veg from the community garden and books (considering entrance is free of charge). There are beautiful views, a little park and a good play area. Parking is free for two hours. We liked it and plan on going back.

This remarkable working tower windmill was once owned and run by mathematical physicist and Nottingham man George Green (Green's Theorem) in the 19th century. He lived in the nearby house. His father, also called George was a baker, and decided to cut out the middle man and grind his own flour in this, then, state-of-the-art mill. It features a fantail with gears and cogs to drive it around automatically into the wind. Green the younger inherited the mill on his father's death, but being more of a mathematical genius than miller, let it to someone else to run. The cafe windows are adorned with various examples of Green's differential equations. I turned up on spec, and was given a short tour. All absolutely free. Do try to support them, apparently they need 70-100k to get the fantail mechanism working properly again - although the mill is still a working one. There's a gift shop, some science exhibits and you can also buy their flour. Free parking for 2 hours in the carpark; get a free ticket from the machine and display.
A. M.
It is the largest and most powerful of the twenty or so windmills in and around the town. See inside amazing inner workings of the windmill over four floors, including the grain cleaner and grindstones. Learn about how our miller uses the windmill to turn grain into our award winning organic flour. If you're lucky and wind is blowing you will see see the beautiful windmill sails turning
M. R.
Amazing place for both children and adults. Very nice and friendly staff always available to help. They offer fantastic activities for children during their free time from school. I highly recommend this place 👍
P. G.
Wonderful windmill which is functional. There is a science museum and a playground for kids. Nice place to spend a morning. Parking is free for 2 hours.
R. S.
Very good historic windmill in working condition! You can even buy the flour that’s being milled here. Very informative. There is also a science centre for kids. Free Parking, Children’s play area outside, a small cafe,
What more can you ask for? Overall a very good experience
S. B.
I have lived in Nottingham all my life but have never been to the Windmill. What a delight it was, I even dared the steep steps up to the top.
I will definitely be paying another visit soon 😊👍
B. M.
No parking which wasn't obvious but my boy loved this place, had lots of fun in the science part, perhaps a simple model (that can be understood by small children) of how a windmill works and the process of field to bread or flour would be good but he had a lot of fun and there's a great park just down the hill
J. W.
Took the grandkids here for a couple of hours. They loved climbing the Windmill and enjoyed the little science museum. Bought some lovely organic flour from the mill shop and the kids loved the park.... Especially the massive slide! Very clean and well kept.
s. v.
The windmill and science center is a really lovely place, lots for the kids to look at and learn, in good weather there is a play area just outside as well, a place you can spend a few hours at.
M. W.
Gorgeous , Amazing windmill right in the heart of a community , surrounded by old houses , with a little science area , and a shop section , where hot drinks are sold. This is such an interesting site to visit, with free parking for 2 hours! Lovely to visit when a gift market is on too.
H. M. -. S. S. M.
A wonderful historic place to visit with the family! Learn about windmills and flour making. They also have kids programs on as well throughout the day. Call ahead and check the schedule!
D. A.
it's small, really just a curiosity, but the staff that worked there were very knowledgeable and friendly and spoke with me for some time about how the mill works. definitely worth a pop in as it is free and operates from donations
C. C. T.
Beautiful windmill with a park with a great view. A cute little gift shop with a couple child-friendly science experiments. Too bad the windmill blocked off the balcony.
C. S.
Small science museum along with the Windmill and park. Sweet little find that is great for a morning/afternoon out at no cost! Great for little ones to learn.
K. L.
Cute little windmill with friendly staff.
You can walk to the top of the windmill with views out the windows.
There is a little science museum which is a dated, but still cute.
J. S.
A great day out, very friendly and helpful staff. It's fascinating to see the flour being made and then be able to buy some. The kids also loved the science centre and also very much enjoyed the community garden. There is also a park at the bottom of the hill, would highly recommend.
M. N.
Lovely day out experience
T. C.
Lovely and interesting place and also absolutely free
J. S.
Very interesting and educational place. Amazing to see inside one of the very few working flour mills in the UK.
M. C.
Very interesting working mill and mini science museum. We'll worth the visit and dedicated car park is quite large. Like park and grass areas surrounding the mill. Interesting history and family story.
k. o.
Very nice place to visit there are benches so could have a picnic and a children's play park be lovely for families on a nice day.
W. F. L.
Fun little museum. You can even buy flour milled here!
P. S.
Lovely place, a part of Nottingham's heritage and former home of the man who formulated Green's Theorem, for those interested in mathematics.
J. E.
Beautiful windmill that allows you access to walk to the top of the mill and lookout for free! ☺️ Little information boards are fitted around inside the milk which is good for all ages wanting to learn something new. The science centre is also free which is mainly aimed at younger ones with interactive simple science activities. A good activity if you're wanting something free to do for an hour or so.
L. C.
Great family day out!
Our children enjoyed the little experiments around the visitor centre, as well as a walk up the windmill and around their community garden.
T. K.
Great working windmill that actually produces it's own flour which is sold on site. Free to enter, though be warned the steps leading up to the top of the windmill are steep
N. M.
Definitely worth seeing, the mill is free and actually produced flour! Nice little science museum too.
C. S.
Good free place to visit in the city
L. J. M.
Nice for photographs, small quiet park area with benches, a friendly community garden at back with plenty vegetables.
R. V.
This is a very nice place to visit, you can spend an hour here, next to it there is a nice park that children can play. Staff are very nice and friendly
I. J.
Greens windmill is a lovely old flour mill, fully working and produces flour for sale. Can be seen from a quite a long distance, and is a well known Nottingham land mark. Stand on a green grassy hill its white sales propelled by the wind. V interesting location in old sneinton, a Nottingham area with fascinating history. A v historic place and well worth a visit. Can be located by taking a steep walk uphill from sneinton dale.
D. K. P.
Perfect spot to spend those pleasant summer evenings. . Almost with no one most of the times, even if there are people around you'll not fell it's crowded. There is a small museum/science centre which exhibits George green's works. And the windmill is still functioning and they also sell organic flour ground by it.
b. g.
These are from our walk the other night use to love spending time here as a kid.
J. G.
Go to this place It's free and it's interesting . Please take your children they'll love it
K. M.
A great place for young kids to visit a small museum and climb a working windmill and see a small community garden at the back. Also they have a small room to host birthday parties for kids where they can make a bread and do a science experiment. Educational fun for a couple of hours. They sell flour and fresh produce from the garden.
E. K.
Great place to visit and the staff is so friendly. Highly recommended
J. W.
Very beautiful! The Windmill is a lovely place to visit, and interesting to explore.
D. N.
Great place to take the the kids also take a picnic it as a sicence museum also get a nice cup of tea and sit and watch the world go by.its closed Monday and Tuesday and open Wednesday to Sunday 10:00am/4:00
R. A.
such a lovely place and inside the windmill is mind blowing! you need to check it out.
N. S.
Surprising park in the city with a windmill. The windmill operates when the wind speed is 15 mph or more. Green himself was an amateur mathematician who made significant contributions to the understanding of electromagnetism and optics, and the attached small study centre contains some fun hands-on demonstrations for children. The site also contains a community garden and, just down the hill from the windmill, a playground that our grandchildren loved. 2 hours free parking covered the time we spent there.
I. B.
Amazing place, kids loved it... And the guy that works there was very friendly and helpful
C. M.
At the recommendation of visited the mill, very long were going to go there, no regrets, it is very interesting, learned a lot.
f. y.
Working wind mill for more than 100 years.
It is a nice place for a visit if you plan to visit beautiful Nottingham
E. W.
Great place to visit with children, plenty to look at in the Science Museum and a fairly large park for them to play in. Really impressive mill, still in operation and has good information about the history and process of it in past years gone by.
There are also frequent activities held in a little room next to the Science Museum, great for entertaining kids during half term!
It is situated close by to a lot of other historical attractions within Sneinton, namely the William Booth Birthplace Museum and some old churches and houses around. So plenty to do on a day out any day of the year, great community place.
H. B.
Beautiful scenery. From the top of the hill you can view the beautiful panorama of Nottingham.
A. U.
Little known Gem of a place, George Green a millers son the Genius whose theorem led to greater discoveries in use even today, using Electricity and Magnetism .
There is also a communal garden with produce for sale. Free of charge! Donations are worth making in lieu of entry charge.
R. W.
An absolutely brilliant day out. A fantastic venue, wonderful staff and a mathematically-themed park adjacent.
L. B.
Nice museum, great spot near to the city centre.
R. L.
I grew up in sneinton & wanted my little boy to experience what i did growing up.
The park could do with an upgrade but he loved the museum & ellie did her best to get him involved.
Thank you xx
E. T.
Good family place!it has playground for kids
L. F.
Fantastic place. Maybe I'm biased having gone here as a child but I just love the windmill, the smell of the flour is great. My kids really enjoyed a recent visit and the nearby park is great.
D. G.
Really interesting place with lots of interactive displays for families
A.
Love the windmill - kids also had decent time inside it when visiting - surroundings are really cool - nice play area round the corner.
J. A.
Very interesting. Nice people there
T. D.
A wonderful place!!!
A. C.
Great place to spend couple of hours with your family.
M. M.
If you interested in science about gravity and how windmill works then this place is for you. It a education place. It is good for bringing your kids to learn about science. Car park is free for 2 hours long. The entrance is also free. I recommend to visit.
L. P.
Great free-of-charge place to visit. I've always found the centre relaxed and welcoming. The flour is a lot more expensive than the supermarkets but, my goodness, it is worth it! It is wonderful to work with in breadmaking and pastry. The nutritional benefits are there by their milling methods. No need to fortify their flour with artificial additives or vitamins. I very happily buy their flour as the winds allow
J. G.
Amazing for all ages. What a great place. Fabulous park for little ones. I like the quiz sheets. Going again very soon
E. S.
A beautiful square on one of highest point on Nottiingham. I absolutely advice to go there for a visit. There' s a big parking area and a public garden too.
M. H.
Was great for a free bit of time out with my little boy

Lovely place, not enough to spend the whole day there but easy a morning or afternoon. Can't wait to visit again. Staff lovely.
J. R.
We had a lovely visit. The information about George Green made a good read and there was just the right amount of it. The science centre in the outbuilding was interesting and filled with fun things for children (and adults). There were activities going on for children too which seemed nice (though you would have to pay for these). The windmill and science centre had free admission which was great. It was cool to see inside a working windmill although the stairs were very steep which could be a problem for some people. Overall, it was lovely and exciting to see a working windmill.
G. B.
Nice little place to spend a couple of hours with kids. Good variety of things to do with the windmill, some science activities, a nice allotment and and a decent play park
G. M.
Fantastic windmill. Fun for the kids too.
B. L.
Short trip on a cold wet day. Was surprised by the science area as I didn't know the history. Kids enjoyed playing with the magnets, optical illusions, etc. They weren't that bothered with the windmill strangely. Would've been more useful to have some kid friendly guides / worksheets that ask you to spot the parts of the windmill / flour making process. The staff were great at explaining it, but my two prefer to learn by themselves rather than be taught.
Didn't see signs for parking but managed to find a space on the road down the hill. Nice walk up past the big play park, which we were gutted we didn't get to try as it was pelting it down with rain. It's got one of the longest metal slides I've seen in a while which would've been great fun.
T. B.
Amazing windmill, really friendly staff. Can't see everything cos of lockdown but still worth a visit. Also with science exhibits to celebrate George Greene's work
E. C.
It's really great to be able to explore inside a working mill. The steps are very steep though. The science centre is great if you have primary aged kids. The play park next to the mill is also really good.
E. M.
A brilliant little gem in nottingham city and its free access.
P. G.
A great experience for kids aged 5-10, fun activities, informative, play park, ecological garden. Free 2 hour parking. As a free facility a superb attraction. Climb to the top of the windmill discover milling. Pleasant staff with coffee/tea. Highly recommend.
i. m.
Beautiful place to visit in Nottingham ❤️❤️❤️ free entry
r. f.
Interesting place to visit, scientific displays were good, the video we played was well done. The windmill itself was good, lots of steep steps to the top! I liked the garden most, lots of veg and fruit to see, the greenhouse was lovely. It would be good if they gave more information on the maths, there were complicated mathematical algorithms displayed, but no explanation of why.
V. T.
Excellent for a family visit. There is a park with a wheelchair roundabout access. The science museum it's well planned and the children learn a lot through experimenting. The windmill it self it's a lovely adventure. Also the bread making workshops are very informative. The children learn how to make bread.
s. p.
I did not get to see inside because of lockdown. But we spoke to someone who worked there & found some interesting facts about someone who fathered 7 illegitimate children. He was a lot younger than my friend & i but was very polite & we left after 12 mins as they were due to close in 3 mins he was really knowledgeable! We often go on interesting jaunts to local places of interest in Nottingham. Ie: The Castle which was built by the normans. Thank you so much Janet!!! 💝🌇🐥🐼💒📷
E. P.
Took both my kids there, both absolutely loved it! The Science centre was a fun and interactive place suitable for both age groups, and gave them a lot to talk about at home. The play area outside was a fantastic end to the trip too. I highly recommend :)
M. S.
Visited during half term, have little baking events on. Great for the kids to burn off a little energy.
K. B.
We celebrated our son's 5th birthday at the Green's Windmill with a pizza baking activity, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the dozen plus children who came along. The party room was well decorated and all the arrangements for the baking activity were immaculate. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and adept at keeping the children entertained during the activity. The children made their own pizza, got a guided tour to the windmill, played in the science museum and open spaces outside - having fun for over 3 hours. This is a great place, well-supported by excellent staff, volunteers and community. Thank you Andy and John for a great party!
h. s.
Lovely large car park available i believe the first two hours are free few minutes away from the windmill. Science Centre is small but lovely and can't really complain when it's free. Windmill is great fun to explore and you are able to go inside it too. Makes a great family fun day.
A. P.
Bought my son to see his first windmill he absolutely loved it❤️❤️
N. J.
The windmill and gardens are beautifully kept, and the science centre is fun for children and adults alike. The workers and volunteers were friendly and helpful too. The only bit that let it down for us was that the park was very overgrown, with lots of weeds everywhere, and long uncut grass, and there was an awful lot of litter all over it! not an inviting place to take your children to play!
R. U.
Really good for younger kids for an afternoon for a free attraction. Science centre is a bit lacking. The park and surrounding area is nice to walk around. It is easy to get to via car or public transport.
R. S.
Free visit + nice science activities for the kids...and parents ;)
We were very pleased with the whole experience
B. R.
Charming working windmill with interactive science center below. There are activities focused on light, magnetism and electricity. The windmill itself has four floors each with functional machinery showing how grains are milled and sorted. Signs tell both of its historical heritage as well as explaining the mechanical functions of the mill.
The staff are very friendly and trail guides are available for children to follow for a nominal fee which presents great value given the centre is free to enter. Souvenirs and flour milled on premise are available for purchase.
Note that the mill's stairs are extremely steep and won't be suitable if you have any mobility issues. Also expect children during term time who can quickly fill up the tight spaces.
C. T.
A unique experience very close to the city centre, with the working Mill and interactive museum, a great place for all the family
C. R.
This place is just lovely! We went during the 6 week holiday and did their biscuit baking, such a well organised activity that my 3 year old loved. Their science bits inside are really informative and kept him busy for quite a while, they even have a little corner with some soft play shapes for under 5's so my 1 tear old was entertained too.
Everyone I came into contact with was very jolly and only too willing to help. You could get a range of hot drinks from the main counter too.
We took a picnic and ate in the grounds underneath the windmill and played in their play park in the bottom. It was such a lovely, stress free place.
We parked in their car park and got 2 hours free parking which was plenty of time for us.
Highly recommend!
S. C.
Great slice of history in the middle of Notts. I wouldn't say you could spend a long time here but it's certainly worth a visit. The only let down is there isn't a proper cafe or restaurant. I think the place would flourish if it had decent food and refreshments too. We would have visited the adjacent playground but we didn't have our son with us.
J. H.
Great for young children, local history buffs or anyone with a bit of a green finger.
Fantastic community place for learning a bit about science (magnets, prisms etc), about plants (great allotment with kids activities), a working windmill where you can learn about the process of flour making.
We had a birthday party there for my 5 year old and it was FANTASTIC. All the children were guided through making dough and baking it into bread and they ate it with butter and homemade jam which we brought along. There were also a couple of child friendly science experiments to entertain the kids (one involving bicarbonate of soda and the other mentos and fizzy cola). Parents and kids had a great time. I highly recommend it for birthday parties. There is also a good play-park on site.
P. Z.
You can see how your flour is made. That's so cool but 1.5 hour is just crazy I spend there no more that 30 minutes.
H. C.
Amazing windmill in Nottingham, still operating with great tradition.. walking distance from Lace Market (15 to 20 mins)
M. M.
Nice place to go. Free to visit. You can see windmill inside. Little fun for kids. Bog playground 2 steps away so if you don't have plan where to go it's good place for quick visit.
M. C.
This place is fantastic to take children to in order for them to learn about milling and science! The staff here are really knowledgeable and helpful.
The fact that this place is so close to the centre of the city is fantastic as it means that it is really easy to get to by public transport. This is important as there is scant parking.
I really hope this place continues to operate as it is a really important feather in Nottingham's cap!
S. K.
Great views of the city on a fine day with a slice of local history.
This place is a great place to visit with young kids eager to see a functioning windmill up close. There is a short exhibit on the history if the mill and area too. The mill also sells the stone ground flour produced. There isn't too much else to experience here but it is well worth seeing.
L. D.
This is a very good place to take younger children. There's a small science centre alongside the working windmill. You can also buy some of the flour to take home and bake tasty treats! But there isn't that much parking, so it's probably best to visit using public transport if you can.
D. M.
Interesting windmill to visit where you can access every floor to see how the mill works. Fairly steep stairs to negotiate but quite easy. Great view from the top floor as well! Highly recommend.
r. g.
Lovely place to take the young ones , informative and fun , also there’s a cool play park near for the little kids
K. W.
Beautiful views and lovely staff
M. E.
Despite everything here being a bit tired and old the science centre is still interesting for little ones, my 7 year old loved it! The park here is also needing some tlc but can fill half an hour. My daughter especially liked seeing the mill working.
A. A.
I wish I'd read up a little more / applied some logic on my part. I brought my little girl who isn't confident with stairs, let alone a very steep stair ladder type thing in the windmill itself. This is my fault. She loved watching the windmill sales go round and the science centre was great. We had lots of interesting talk about magnets.
N. T.
We love greens mill and the play park down the hill. The science displays inside are a delight for children. The highlight for us is always the trip up the mill, the view from the top is quite spectacular
R. B.
Great attraction with craft shops and the history tour is superb.
Z. H.
Don't expect a jam packed day, but where else are you going to see a working windmill. Its free, you can climb to the to top (lots of steep steps), you can watch it in action producing flour. With a little science area for kids attached..
R. W.
This is a lovely little windmill to look round. It's great for free. Brilliant views from the top on a clear day.
r. h.
Educational Resource Centre with organic freshly milled flour, some locally grown organic fruit and veg. Plus an interesting and interactive Science investigating display.
Really nice and helpful people run the place, a nice place to visit
I.
Enjoyed the pack, the movies was helpful
K. H.
Unfortunately there was no wind on that day so didn't get to see it working, but nice to see historic buildings kept going.
G. L.
Wonderful place for younger children - a working windmill they can go in, a varied and engaging science museum with apparatus for children to play and experiment with, and an outdoor play area with slides, swings etc. Various organic flours produced by the mill are on sale. The volunteer staff are helpful and friendly.
J. R.
An oasis of calm in the city. Free 2 hours car parking makes this a great place for families or even just to come by yourself and chill out on a nice day with a coffee from the shop. They sell all kinds of flour. Highly recommended.
D. E.
Super gem of a local museum. My grandson loved looking through the windows on the way up and down.

I took my son here and it's literally not changed since I was child haha, I'm sure they don't have a lot of funding but it's really dated. Staff are friendly enough but one person advised me my 3 year old would be fine going up the windmill, the steps are awfully steep I felt sick trying to get him back down them.
K. B.
Well worth a visit to this free attraction. Small fee for children's quiz / guide around the mill. The science exhibits in the visitors centre are really interesting.
D. G.
Lovely piece of history a working mill it was a very enjoyable morning . We bought flour and made our own bread at home.

Great Place. One of not many working windmills in England. Amazing feeling inside. You can watch how windmill is working and smell freshly made flour. How often You have a chance to do that? Plus little science room for kids but adults can learn something aswell. If You visiting Nottingham seriosusly consider to visit this amazing place.
J. C.
A lovely place to visit . Can see the windmill working and children will love this. They do different things on school holidays for children . Parking is a bit difficult but can be walked in half an hour from nottingham city centre.
L. W.
Very friendly staff. Just a nice place to visit if you happen to be nearby. There is much for young children to do and a lot for adults to learn about. It is an interesting place and make sure you buy their flour that is made on site.
L. R.
Not as much to do or see as we thought. The volunteers didn't really appear to be bothered that you were there. No one in the windmill to talk to the children about it's workings. Thinking about other activities in Nottingham I'd probably choose to.do something else.
R. W.
Very friendly staff. Kids activities. Clear explanations of how the mill works and different types of flour. Interesting but small science museum, with very handsome on exhibits for children to try experiments
G. H.
As a local (ish) lad who went to Gonville and Caius and studied physics, I was startled to discover this place on the doorstep. The story of Green is mysterious and inspiring - he is my local hero. Great place for kids, combining undergrad physics and a working windmill - about a million times more worthwhile than Disney.
K. F.
Great wee museum with a nice playpark close by.
M. A.
Very good place for both children and adults. Great views and you get a chance to see flour being ground and packaged. You also get a chance to buy freshly ground flour

Not as good as it used to be (bring back the plasma ball!), but kids enjoy the science building and you get to see a windmill. They also mill their own flour, which is pretty good.
f. M.
Great for all the family, from very young to very young at heart. Your never to old you learn something new. They run some fantastic fun days for kids. Interesting, informative. Well set out

Windmill is great, I get dragged along to the craft fairs by the other half which is ok but they usually have the same old tat of candles and paintings you get everywhere this time of year.
Why do I keep going? For the home made pizza which is not to be missed!
M. J.
Such a lovely experience. And we loved the little play park
J. G.
Fantastic working mill. Volunteers are very accommodating and answer questions. We were lucky to see it being still and the suddenly working due to the wind. What a dramatic difference!

So much more could be made of this little gem. Quite a few exhibits in the science part did not work properly and could do with some maintenance. The wind mill was great but more could be made of it.

It was a nice day out at the windmill just a shame the Easter egg hunt wasn't great too we assumed there was going to be eggs to find but we had to look for letters on numbered paper shaped eggs to spell out something and the prize wasn't great either
