Reviews of National Trust - Tintagel Old Post Office
P. S.
What a lovely place to visit. Doesn’t look much from the outside, but plenty to see when you get in. Watch your head 😀. £5.00 is very reasonable, national trust members go free. Staff is very friendly helpful and knowledgeable 👍. 5⭐️
T.
Very sweet little historical building. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There were interesting artifacts inside as well as the building itself. The garden is also lovely and had some books and games to play.
L. F.
Thi old Post Office is tiny but super charming little house in Tintagel. We went to this town to visit the castle, and got some free time to pop there. It is small and you can complete the visit in less than 30 minutes but worthy if you have some time while in town.
S. B.
Really interesting old building, staff very friendly and welcoming. Information in each room describing everything in several languages. Pretty cottage garden too. I really loved all the cute windows!
A. 5.
This is a very cute property. 5 rooms and a small garden. There are a few books for sale. You can easily spend about an hour just looking and reading the information provided in lovely folders in each room.
B. &. K. o. T.
National Trust membership is a god send so you can visit these places for free.
Only small but very interesting.
Just up the road from Tintagel Castle.
B. Y.
Beautiful place with astonishing views. But too crowded and almost impossible visit with buggy.
S. B.
The team were lovely and welcoming. The place is really small and will be a quick visit. The garden is fab and the little one enjoyed the pumpkin trail. The stair ladder is very steep so must be agile to tackle those. Full of history! Nice little interesting find.
P. /. H. H.
£5 entry or free for national trust, well worth a visit, really Old cottage.
S. L.
We was so happy that we got to visit the old post office as it books up very quickly.
A lovely medieval building.
The staff are fantastic and’s very helpful.
D.
What an amazing old building! Had a wonderful time looking around.
J. B.
Lovely place to visit. Very small but plenty of history
B. D.
The old post office is charming. The EH castle is the big attraction here, but for a quiet break away from the crowds have a look around.
I felt like I was walking into a TARDIS as it seems bigger on the inside. Take 5 and sit in the back garden.
N. H.
Not the usual large NT property but this small ex post office with its wonky stone roof is still worth a visit. Probably easier to imagine living in a homely property like this rather than a mansion! Helpful staff as usual. No NT parking and no cafe or shop.
S. M.
A lovely little place. Idyllic 🙂
A. G.
Oh, this is such a lovely place and the staff here so friendly and very knowledgeable. It really is an old building which looks very quaint. Has a lovely garden area too.
R. M.
A small but delightful cottage which is stood since medieval times. It gives an insight into how people resided over many generations. Each room is full of history in an up close and personal way.
At the rear of the cottage is a lovely little garden which includes period appropriate children's activities.
Quaint shop inside and an opportunity to participate in a work in progress rag quilt in nearby room.
Well worth a visit.
O. C.
This is well worth a visit if you are in the area and a national trust member. Personally i don't think the entry price without the membership is worth it, its not a very big site. The building itself is interesting, but the intrigue of the place can be seen from the outside.
M. R.
One of the oldest houses in Cornwall. Interesting if you interested in historic places
E.
Fascinating building. The roof is amazing, so warped and weathered- the building looks like a fairy tale.
Inside follows suit with low doorways, a clamber up the steps to the balcony and tiny rooms which you have to remind yourself were genuinely used!
Lovely welcoming staff and a well cared for, petit garden- a lovely way to spend a little time while in Tintagel.
B. J.
A nice little property, the second ever property purchased by National Trust. It's pretty small and could probably be seen in 30 mins.
I. B.
Lovely old & well kept, the old post office is a great place to look around. So much history & so much to look at & read. Great that the National Trust preserve old buildings to keep historical places alive. Highly recommended.
T.
500 yrs old house still in tact. Amazing joinery holding super heavy roof slates. Must see
A. C.
Fascinating to see what people had to put up with.
R. H.
A really interesting small property with much of interest to discover. You even find out the origin of the term, being on the shelf. The gardens are beautiful.
V. P.
Fell in love with this old farm house/post office from the 1300's. So much history and just a charming cottage
A. J.
The old Post Office - A rare surviving example of a medieval Cornish hall-house dating from 1380
L. N.
Beautiful building and garden
M. S.
Quaint building & well looked after. Lost 1 star due to the entrance fee being so high. Not great value for money.
N. S.
Super building. Have been inside and it is quite small but fascinating to look to around. The garden outside is great for getting a great view of the building. Just full of character and charm.
B. W.
Lovely little old building, looks like it was saved in the nick of time. Nice little garden in the rear. Watch your head inside, plenty of places it can be banged. Can't comment on the cost as I've membership and it was free to visit. The place is small and doesn't take long to look around. There is no access for wheelchairs and difficult for anyone who has difficulty walking.
J. A.
Loved visiting here! Absolutely stunning house and very informative indoors. Learned the origins of the term 'left on the shelf' The garden is a delight. National Trust property and really well maintained.
K. H.
Beautiful building although didn't go inside as not dog friendly.
M. M.
Quaint old building with a lot of "don't touch it, please' signs :-) But it's pretty in it's own way.
L. S.
Lovely old place but doesn't take long to visit.
S. B.
Lovely old building that's worth a visit, but often gets overlooked due to its location
I. H.
Interesting take on how people lived many years ago. National Trust preserving our history.
B. S.
Very quaint and gives you a sense of peace and calm. I kept expecting to see Gerard Butler to walk down the lane. Loved it. The locals were fun to talk to
R. T.
Amazing 600 year old building. Definitely worth a visit.
p. a.
should be free entry to mimitary but apart from cost if entry its a great day out. advise you take walking shoes and be ready for a good walk
G. H.
Lovely little place worth a visit. Over 6 hundred years old, small with a lovely garden. In the middle of the village, has a pay carpark right opposite.
A. G.
Lovely building if you like history. Some parts are dark and like going back in time. Once you go upstairs and start making your way down look opposite on the staircase. The steps in the wall are not obvious. Either many are scared to tackle them or they just miss the steps in the wall. The balcony gives a great view. We bought postcards in the shop and were offered a selection of old post office rubber stamp marks for effect. Lovely touch. The garden is delightful with sections and pathways.
E.
Cute little place to visit, I've rated it high as it's a fantastic experience to see however it is a very fleeting visit here so I'd advise this much more so for National Trust members and for those advid history lovers wishing to visit somewhere in preparation for a visit to the castle.
A. T.
Very interesting and the National Trust are doing a wonderful job in maintaining this historic small Manor house
L. V.
Very good, stunning old and really great to see.
R. S.
What a treasure,it was nice and quiet when we visited which gave us time to sit in the lovely peaceful garden. Also have to say that the staff were very welcoming and informative 👍
C. M. A.
Great little known treasure of Tintagel. The Old Post office, which was many things in its time, lastly a post office, just not for very long. Very evocative, with original features, huge fireplace, timber beams from a ships hull and some lasting memorabilia from the postal days. Garden is small and twee with original grinding stone too. Well worth a look.
A. B.
Fantastic place to visit for everyone young and old. Fantastic views. A lovely cornish cream tea in the cafe.
P. “. T. E.
Excellent knowledge of old post office, plenty of booklets explain the room and cross stitch embroidery.
Excellent staff and very helpful.
A. Y.
One of the best places to visit in uk.
Natural beauty and amazing scenery all around
L. L.
Sadly it was shut when we got there. But amazing old building . The area seems a lot busier than when I visited 25 years ago. Lots more souvenir shops and cafes. But pleasant street with parking nearby.
C. N. 7.
Small property but perfectly formed. Lots of atmosphere, a bit spooky. Love the garden and the games. Lovely staff too.
M. J. B.
So quaint. Wonderful experience. Would
Highly recommend.
A. M.
What a wonderful place Tintagel is, steeped in history with a taste if mystic mythology thrown in . definitely worth a visit.
J. M.
This is a delightful small NT property.
We hadn't booked ahead although this is advisable as numbers have to be limited due to its size, we were lucky enough to have the last walk in slot of the day.
Interesting building and history. Staff were very friendly and informative. Loved the little displays of flowers which were dotted around!
C. B.
Very cosy historic building, well worth the visit if seeing Tintagel and the castle as a whole. You can get round in 10-15 mins depending on how much you want to take in
J. M.
Nice old English post office. Managed by the national trust it's £4 to get in. Unfortunately it was closed when we went but it looked awesome from the front.
J. T.
Such a beautiful old building to look around
S. B.
Beautiful from the outside.... You have to pay to see inside
s. k.
Amazing place to visit if you like history
D.
Unfortunately the castle was closed because of the bridge. Nice beach with Merlin's cave.
k. c.
Takes 5 minutes to walk around glad I'm a National Trust not really worth the entry fee if you are paying.
B. W.
Free entry for national trust, very interaxtive yet small piece of history
L.
Nice quirky building, Worth a visit if your in Tintagel
C. M.
Beautifully maintained and the staff on duty during my visit were very knowledgeable
J. M.
Lovely staff, small but beautiful garden, and a piece of history.
M. V.
Amazing. Building was built in 1340.
t. h.
Worth a visit if you're in the area
G. 8.
Very interesting, with a lot more access to areas than expected , and lots of info
S. R.
Nice to spend 10 minutes in if you are in Tintagel for the day, but not worth a trip on its own, and probably not worth it if you don't have National Trust membership
R. C.
We never actually ventured inside the post office but the outside has a real charm about it. With its uneven roof and stone walls it carries it age beautifully.
H. S.
Really interesting. Has also a garden out the back. I whizzed round it as was tight for time and am a member. It has a few rooms to explore and staff were helpful.
S. S.
Real fairy tale cottage. . Well worth a visit if just for the photos
C. C.
Loved everything about it,house and gardens magnifiscent.
M. C.
I really liked this tourist town. It has a lot to offer.

D. S.
Great old post office. Small but worth a look.
S. C.
A unique small building that's steeped in history. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or near Tintagel.
A. F.
Love this place so much I had to pay because I'm not a national trust member but its only £5 so worth it the information about the aera is so nolagable and comes in different lagagise not just English you do have to watch your head alot as it has low beems but that is only the low point would highly recommend

A. K.
Lovely quaint building and beautiful garden to have your picnic lunch.
L. W.
Small and quaint, perfectly charming and interesting
S. M.
Lovely but small building. Steeped in history and with ceilings so low you are bound to leave with a new bruise on your head. My kids have done a lot of national trust trails and this was by far the hardest. Great place really enjoyed it.
S. C.
Such a step back into history and lovely to see buy a postcard and get it stamped and posted there.
The visit is worth it and will take you less than a hour
A. K.
As a national trust member I was able to enter here free and it was lovely, nothing too fancy but a little garden with some games for the kids, dressing up, up and down thin narrow flights of stairs with lovely decor and a very well preserved and presented property. Definitely worth a visit especially if you have membership.
W. T.
Lovely quirky quaint historic building. Definitely worth a nosey if you are in the area or have a passion for old building. Lovely garden also. We took no more than 1 hour to explore it . We were already National Trust members so can't comment on value for money
A. B.
Nice and a very old house.
B. t. b.

c.
Always wanted to visit, worth the effort. Amazing place.
S. A.
Really interesting and with helpful staff. Worth a visit.
J. G.
Lovely guides gave us a potted history of the house, and stayed to answer all our questions. Plus the house itself was fascinating, with loads of details!
M. A.
Great site to see. It might be hard for hieght or so many steps. Great history for possible myth of king Arthur.
J. C.
Lovely place full of history.
J. Y.
Had a great day looking at all the different things here
G. H.
Looks good from outside but one of the few NT properties still on timed tickets so couldn't go in. And closed later in the week.
P. H.
Only saw from outside interesting building
M. H.
Loved this place, great National Trust building. Beautiful garden and very fitting to the surrounding area. I would highly recommend a visit here! Very interesting and a lot of history. Friendly staff too
N. B. (.
Beautiful building very interesting.
S. p.
The story behind this funny shaped roof is great to tell the kids as it involves a dragon that can turn invisible.
M. G.
Nice little National Trust place that we didn't expect to find, really interesting story behind the place and kept really well. Staff were nice and offered the dogs bribes to keep them quiet whilst we went in one at a time.
P. M.
Limited access during COVID restrictions and need to book. A shame as use it as a place to have a thermos coffee in the quiet garden
I. F.
Nice little gem in the heart of tintagel. The guides are very friendly. Top adress
M. L.
We went there because we already were in Tintagel and had free entry because of our National Trust membership (otherwise it's 4.80 £ per person, no parking possible). It was a sweet little place but nothing to spend a lot of time with. The information leaflets are very helpful although the translations were awful.
J. E. B.
Stunning ancient post office with a great little craft fayre often found occupying the right half. They do a lovely range if cakes and hot beverages. It's amazing how this little cottage has stood the test of time. Great cornish build.
J. M. G.
Surprisingly well preserved heritage building worth visiting.
D. H.
Lovely little place to visit, lovely little gift shops, rock, sweets, great fish and chips. Ample parking. To see the new bridge to the castle was £30 a little to expensive for us as a family.
V. T.
Quaint little house. The garden at the back is charming as well.
L. W.
Not so much of a visit as a walk past while visiting Tintagel. Lovely village.
K.
Beautiful old building. One of the ladies that worked there was so kind and soft spoken. Really a worth while experience and it was only 4 quid to get it to see the building and the beautifully manicured garden out the back as well. Definitely a must see!
G. C.
600 yr old building looking fantastic.
H.
Great little museum.
L. C.
Very interesting old house/Post office in Tintagel. First built in the 1300's.
T. T.
Beautiful old post office in the heart of tintagel. Run and owned by the national trust.
d. h.
Small but nice to visit
M. W.
Great place to visit. The castle ruins are inaccessible for disabled people as the climb is very steap and very narrow. But the beach below has Merlins Cave and a natural waterfall onto the beach. If you are disabled there are areas you can get to, just not castle ruins.
P. C.
A quaint old building very carefully preserved and well worth a look around. Situated in the very popular Tintagel town this National Trust property is worth a visit. Easy to find and with plenty of parking available for all the attractions this popular Cornish area presents.
K. L.
if u will be there , just go because is worth it to visit
N. L.
Fascinating little 13th century house - not often do you come across them this old!! Fabulous collection of household objects that date hundreds of years back, was busy with quite a number of people looking through the house but it didn’t feel crowded.
C. F.
Interesting little old (very) house
I. T.
Nice local attraction with friendly and informative National Trust staff. Ideal visit taking less than 1 hour to look around. Gardens superb in May when we visited.
U. T.
lovely place very old and small rooms the tour doesn't take long was it worth £4.60 each? um no a little pricey for such a small building but ok visit on the plus side the staff were very friendly helpful
I. A.
Centrally located along the main road, this very antique building is managed by the National Trust. Featuring a rich collection of furniture with detailled descriptions of each of them, the building structure shows the signs of its evolution already from outside, where the heavy weight of the roof gas deformed it's shape during the centuries: the original, medieval one was a lighter thatched one. By entering it the visitors is plunges in the past, the eyes captured by the interiors and many objects in it. Charming and beautiful, it's definitely worth a visit. The ancient little Post Office inside della lovely and unique souvenirs.
D. B.
The back garden is very relaxing amazing old property
P. L.
Interesting but expensive for what it is. Wouldn't bother again.
C. B.
This was a highlight of our holiday. A very welcoming house and well explained history. My daughter dressed up in the victorian clothes provided in the garden and tried to get a job there as a tour guide. She is only 6.
B. N.
Unfortunately, it was closed but is back open very soon at half term break. Looks quite enchanting. Definitely worth a visit next time. Is run by The National Trust.
R. H.
A fascinating little building in Tintagel. Free to National Trust members. It has a beautiful little cottage garden at the rear. Not one for wheelchairs or indeed any people with mobility problems.

Nicely kept old building. A bit of Tintagel history. Dogs not allowed in but there is somewhere to sit outside while you wait and they may provide water for the dog.
A. G.
I went to a WI coffee morning here as I was passing through. Even as a non-local they were very friendly and welcoming and had great chat. What a lovely village!!!
H. W.
We spent a pleasant hour at Tintagel Post office & garden. We had an interesting tour of the building very quaint. The garden is well maintained & kept. Well worth a short visit.
s. e.
Lots of history, many activities for the children if it's fine weather, mind your head and watch your footings, low beams and uneven floors. Staff very knowledgeable and cheerfull
A. H.
Interesting house - watch your head!
S. H.
Very interesting but not much room inside so you do need to pre book
T. H.
Beautifully preserved Post Office, well worth a visit
E. T.
Well worth a visit.
P. W.
The Tintagel Old Post Office is a beautiful 14th Century house. This is certainly one of the smallest National Trust properties I've visited and definitely one of the quirkiest.
As a National Trust member I was happy to visit as it didn't cost me anything but with such a small property that you may struggle to pass much time in, I'm sad to say it may be hard to justify the entry price.
N. P.
Very pretty building and lovely garden at the back. It was very small inside and not much to look at. I wouldn't go back a second time.
D. R.
It is on the busy main street but is a step back in time. Just delightful and such a wonderful old building with its charming stonework and beautiful garden at the back.
M. A.
Fascinating building with a long and varied history, a chance to glimpse a bygone era.
B.
Overpriced shop. Cool and interesting to walk around and see. Staff are kind and tell you information about the building. And it's next to a pub! Which is always a bonus.
S. C.
Beautiful old building. Very quaint. It's somewhere to go when you don't have a lot of time
E. J. A.
A must see, a small building that has so much to show, it takes you back in time and you don't have to imagine how it would be as it's all there to see. Pretty grounds, little cafe.
L.
Lots of lovely craft gifts at reasonable prices fabulous art work friendly ladies oh and not to mention great value for money pasties cheaper than anywhere else xxx
P. N.
Was expensive to get in and we didn't see very much. Nice place but I'd like to pay half the price
S. A.
Pure joy
P. G.
Quite interesting place... How we used to live & work.... We're members so took advantage of our visit
S. E.
Small but well formed (visit well under an hour). One of the most earliest properties of the national trust
